Eich is a great teacher and really knows his stuff. He really makes sociology fun. Down to earth guy and fun to talk to.

It's kind of annoying when he talks during his videos. I think he made the best of his circumstance taking over a class mid semester. He's fine otherwise.

eich was a good prof. his tests are pretty easy and short, but in my class he did require us to conduct a survey, write at least a ten page paper, and give a ten minute presentation. i got an A and i learned a lot, but you do have to put some effort in. he knows his stuff.

Eich is by far the best professor at my school, a school that lacks a quality education. You definately get your money's worth with him. He's laid back, down to earth, but he knows his stuff

Wow... some people are harsh. He is a great teacher and if you actually study... the class is a piece of cake. I got over 100%. If you go to his office to talk to him... he is a great help. It's not hard if you atleast try. He is just helping to make you lazy people grow up.

It's an interesting class. You have to put forth a lot of effort to get a good grade, but it's well worth it in the end. The class will make you do a lot of thinking about yourself and the world around you.

Not easy, but he made class very interesting and I certainly learned alot. True, the final paper wasn't fun, but the experience will be useful as I continue my education.

Awesome guy, he has class lectures, he is organized, and extremely helpful, I do not understand how anyone could have an issue with this guy, he is by far all about the students and gives credit where credit is due. He helps you open your minds, I question people who gave him a low rating and if they are at all intelligent?

I agree...if you study when you're supposed to and if you take the time to get to know him, he's a great guy. It's college...grow up! I found him to be fair and he didn't try to teach over our heads..some stuff is hard to grab. He will help you out if you ask him...he's a big guy and I think he's a big teddy bear...not a gruffy big old professor

Best teacher Hawkeye has to offer!!!

Everyone says this class is hard, which it can be, but he is a really good teacher and expects a lot out of his students. He doesn't baby you like a lot of HCC teachers do. Difficult class but VERY interesting. Study your notes well, it seems easy as you study but make sure you know the info.

The sylabus is like a novel to read...very long. Not a hard class, just a lot of busy work. DO NOT DO THE MINIMUM REQUIRED, it will only earn you minimal grade. He will tell you what you need to get an A, and make sure you do that. Very helpful if you do not understand something.

Dr Eich is a demanding teacher, but he is usually very fair about what is required for each assignment. He's kind of old fashion that way. I mean he does expect all of his students to earn the grade they get, and he does not "curve" grades. Lots of students knock him, but I think they want an A for doing little - it not high school...grow up!

This guy is an amazing teacher, those who dont like him are the freeloaders that expect everything to be easy and given to them and they work for nothing. That is why they are too chicken to accept the challenge that Eich gives... opportunity for the "prepared spirit" He is a great teacher if you allow your self to be taught.

His class wasn't hard, but I hated having to do that survey and then write a paper. On top of that, I had to do a presentation, which i really hated. I had an A in this class, probably one of the best in there, but I don't like him because he left a very negative impression on me.

i took a minimester with him in the spring. After the first day of learning his policies and everything he expected of us, i tried very hard to drop. after the class got into it, i love it. he is the most helpful teacher i've ever had. if you need help he will, and even gave out his personal phone #. if you are looking to take soc, go dr. eich.

Really nice guy. Very clear about classroom expectations and rules. Asks for a lot out of you but will give it back whenever you need it.

He is a really good teacher, tells interesting stories. Took him for a minimester, had a paper ever night on top of a couple chapters of reading. He has high expectations but they are reachable and he is flexible. Discussion in the class was good. Make sure you participate and read the syllabus well.

Dr Eich is called "hard" by most students I know, but he's not really that bad. He does ask students to follow rules in the class and he hates cellphones so watch out for that. He's very helpful, but I think students are kid of afraid to ask him...he's a big guy and has a loud voice, but he's a teddy bear once you get to know him. Fair to all!

I read all comments and must say I am confused how and why students find Dr Eich a bad teacher. I've never had a teacher who went so much out of his way to help students. He even gives us his home phone number. People say he's gruff and hard and no ability???? Now that is a joke since his background and education are top notch. Great Job Dr E

Soc and Diversity student - I cannot believe students have a bad thing to say about Dr Eich. He makes everything clear (can you read?), he gives his home phone number for help (can call 7 days a week), and is more than fair in grading (makes his grading standards known to all). Most complaints I read here are crap - grow up - it's college!

for student dated 5-13, massive paper = 10 page double-space due at the end of the course. I was in class with you and I know that you turned your paper in late - that's why he docked your grade...you are not truthful. Dr Eich is always quality 1st then page count. His insructions are clear or you can contact him. You need to get real.

My 2nd class with Dr Eich. He's very helpful. He has a rep that is not deserved since he is helpful to every student who asks for help. He is a nice guy if you care to know him. He never made me feel dumb even though I asked him for help a lot. His quizzes and exams are pretty easy. Papers are kind of hard, but we need to learn how to write.

Mr Eich is such and awesome teacher! Hes very straight to the point person, he tells it like it is. I was even running late a couple times and I emailed him, he responded right away and let me attend a later class. Hes a really good person and would highly recommend him.

I had Professor Eich for Introduction to Sociology. He clearly states what he expects from you on the first day of class. He gives you a study guide before tests and if you know the answers on that you will ace the test. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON YOUR RESEARCH PAPER! He is beyond helpful with it-it is up to the student to take initiative!

Prof Eich is one of the best teachers I have at Hawkeye. He really cares about all his students. You can talk to him real easy and he helps in any way. Yes, he wants you to follow directions, but that is important. He gives examples of all assignments and that makes it easy to follow. Love the class and good job Prof Roger. Take him for soc.

I took him for Intro to Soc. He does ask a lot of students but usually gives study guides and is always there to help. Be ready for the final paper though...12 pages!

He is an Awesome teacher! As long as you do your work and get it in when it is due and attend class you should have no problems. He expects excellence and he makes you want to do your be. He always gives honest critiques that are dead on. If you don't want to work, don't take his class.

Dr. Eich is a very nice teacher who really cares about his students. The class isn't to difficult, but you do need to put effort into your work and turn it in ON TIME. The tests are pretty simple if you read the chapters in the book. If you do your work well and do the extra credit when given you should be able to pass the class with an A or B!

The best teacher I have ever had. Be prepared to write (a lot). He expects your best and he makes you want to do your best. I have had him for 2 classes and wish I could take more with him.

Dr. Eich is a great teacher! If you keep up with the assignments each week and not wait until the last minute, you have no problem. I would start at the beginning of the week, submit, and I would be done! If you don't turn in an assignment, you get a 0 - no late work accepted. If you like to write a lot in detail, this is the class to take! :)

Took online minimester. I found his pace is on par with a 4-year university class (quite refreshing), but those used to the slower pace of Hawkeye classes will probably be frustrated. Super easy tests. A LOT of writing. Syllabus is a novel so there are no surprises. Great sense of humor and fosters thoughtful discussions that make content relevant.

Took Diversity in America online and during a minimester. VERY HARD. He expects you to work and be thoughtful. If you plan on transferring to a 4 year, this is what it's like. He is available for questions and answers them quickly. Do your work, follow his instructions and put effort and you will pass.

On day 1 he explains the expectations thoroughly. He reminds you that homework is due and will not be accepted late. He tells you to review the grading rubric before turning anything in. If you can follow instructions, listen and reply during discussions and jot down topic info for reflection papers, Papers will be fine. Procrastinators struggle

Dr Eich cares that his students actually learn something. His assignments make students think about how material is applied to our lives. Dr Eich gives his home number and asks students to call him 7 days a week. Feedback is detailed and honest. Grading rubrics for all assignments. Very helpful if you ask . Lots of info in here is wrong.

Works with any student who needs help. Gives his home number and we can call him anytime we need help. He is demanding, but in an OK way. He wants us to become better students. Yes - you read, but it's online! Papers are only way to check if we get it. Had both in class and online - he lets you know and helps if you need it. Good guy.

Took eich for summer online course. He is very clear about what is expected and gives us a lot of time to prepare work. I think many students giving reports on him maybe waited too long to begin working on things. He offers good examples of his assignments. i am taking him again in fall. got to read, write, and think. That is why we are here.

One of my best teachers. helpful to me a lot when I called and never made me feel stupid for calling. I worked in his class but I followed directions and scored high. He just asked you to follow directions and shows you what he wants. Strict but nothing crazy and his rules are fair to everyone. I recommend him if your not afraid to work a bit.

I really enjoyed Dr. Eich. He is retired Marine so he is strict but fair. If you do the work it is an easy A. He explains how to do everything and even gives examples of what he expects, out of assignments. He is diffidently not a push over and does not tolerate late assignments. I really learned a lot from his class and found it very entertaining.

You have to try to fail this class. Easy A

Dr. Eich really cares about his students. He will make you work for your grade, but will give you exactly what you're doing wrong to do better next time. He cares about his students and what they have to say. Personally, I really enjoyed SOC with him and sad it will be over. I would 100% recommend him to a friend. You have to be motivated.

Dr. Eich is a professor that shows you what a proper education and learning experience is all about. He takes the time to talk and lecture to his students and has a good sense of humor while teaching the class. There are papers to write but that is to be expected in a college level class. Take his class to learn and open your mind!

I just started a class with Dr. Eich. I personally feel that he changed his Sociology courses dramatically just from last semester. He started doing a new thing called learning sessions which take course for 26 days. Which means 2 papers are due at the end of learning session. He takes class time to talk with his students and is willing to help.

We had to write an 18 page paper at the end of the semester and present many times, but this class prepared me for harder ones. Eich is a great guy, and I highly recommend taking his class.

In the online class, there is a lot of homework assigned and paper writing. He gives clear grading instructions on what he expects and what type of work will get a certain grade. While it is tough and he does have high expectations, it is easy to get an A if you apply yourself.

Ive had Roger Eich for two classes. One was in person, and one was online. I regret not taking the second class in person. Not because of difficulties, but hes got a certain touch! Roger Eich is respected, hilarious, intelligent, and one of the most accepting humans Ive ever met. Anyone who gets the chance, take a class with him.

Great Professor. I think most of the students who trash talk prof Eich just are not willing to do what is asked of them. He is understanding, clear in assignments, never makes a decision that does not favor his students, and is honest with students when it comes to work. He also gives you his home phone number for help! He cares about students.

Liked Dr Eich a lot. Even when talking about some boring stuff he made me want to listen. He is a funny guy. I have had much tougher courses. Just follow directions and it is an easy A. Helpful if you do not understand things. I recommend him to my friends. Speaking up in class is important but we always had a good time talking about things.

Dr. R Eich is one of the Best Sociology Instructor I have ever seen in my life. He is very nice teacher, very fair in Grading. You just follow his instructions, work hard and easily get an A grade. Some others saying trash about him thats absolutely Wrong. I highly recommend him.

Mr Eich is a good teacher. He loves talking with students and wants to hear our opinions about things. He is funny in class. Writing assignments are between 1 to 3 pages so you can chose how much work you want to put in the assignment. He gave us about three months to do a research paper that could range from 5 to 9 pages of 2space typed.

Dr Eich is really a nice guy. Almost every day we had class I sat in our building foyer and we just talked. He really cares about his students. He is flexible and empathetic when it comes to our issues. Eady A if you just follow his directions and do a little work. He is very fair and respects his students. Recommend him 100%.

Eich is a rare as professors go. What I mean is that he cares about all of his students and wants them to do good in his courses. His assignments can be a bit tough but he gives you alot of time to get them done and he takes late work. He gives extra credit to help you come back from messing up. I took him for two courses and he was very fair.

Eich is great! No matter what other say in this rate place, Eich gives his students plenty of instruction, examples of what he wants us to do, and lets us call him seven days a week for help. We have weeks to a whole month to get assignments done. He always provided extra credit in case we screwed up or just did not feel like working too hard.

Diversity ended up being a good course. The book readings make you think like his assignments. He gives us easy grading standards and grades fair!y. Provided us with many examples. Eich is one of the most supportive teachers I have taken. I put in time and effort and followed his grading standards on every assignment. I was awarded good grades just as he said would happen. Any student who got bad grades in this course clearly did not follow Eich's instructions. A good grade is easy to get. Just do what he asks of you.

Approached teaching in good way. Crs chopped up into sessions with assignments. I enjoy writing and this crs is good for people like me. It is online so that is normal. Very clear directions and he gives help each day of the week. Very good crs and very interesting and professional teacher. Has you focus on your life with each assignment.

I just started this online course and I have never met a professor that cared so much and wanted to make sure you understand everything. He is available all the time and is willing to give you a call to explain anything you may not understand. His explanations on canvas are a 10/10, very understanding and lets you know everything with example's.

This class values your opinion! I would like people to know that there will be a lot of papers, but you just need to review example paper. He is very understanding and gives out homework in advance. The people who have a problem with his way of teaching just don't want to take time to do homework and actually understand the material.

Dr Eich is fair and very honest about what expects from you. Offers good instructions with detailed examples. Treats you with respect and is the most helpful prof I have had. Prof Eich is a great teacher. He is patient and answered all of my questions even when I had to ask a lot of timed. Offered examples of everything. Had one month to get monthly paper done. A bit of thinking and writing but nothing crazy. If you want a good grade you just follow his instructions. Simple. I would take him again for sure.

Took Eich for a short course which was only 4 weeks long. I think one of the big reasons I made it through OK was Eich. He is a darn good teacher and really fair in grading. I got clear instructions and he gave us examples of all assignments. I could have worked harder for a better grade, but took the easy route. Extra credit helped my grade.

Professor Eich is one of my favorites. He has helped me a great deal when I was messing up through my fault. He spoke with me on the phone, and I mean weekends too. He helped me get back on track and I hope to end the course with an A. I have a B right now. He gives us plenty of time for assignments. Directions are clear. Take him.

There was a lot wording for his discussion posts and reflection papers but after you read instructions it's pretty clear and easy. He is big on following instructions and word counts. For every unit we had 1 discussion post, 2 quizzes (easy) , 1 extra credit, and one reflection paper. Lots of points in class. Take him!!

First part of course was confusing for me. I called prof. Eich for help and his help was great. I was making things much harder for me than I had to make it. He got me on track and any time I have a question he is there for me. He is easy to speak with which is important for me. I am so glad I asked for help rather than drop. Good guy.

I just read what the last student wrote and want to say I agree. Eick is a great online teacher. Took him for a diversity course last semester. He was very helpful. Quizzes were easy. One forum per month. One major paper each month but you just had to answer a few questions about key subjects. Support 7 days a week. It was a great course.

I am at midterm with an A grade now. Course is interesting and pretty easy. Prof Eich sure cares about his students and lets you call him for help with this online course. Extra credit is there each month and helps if you mess up. Some think his papers are too much but they really are not that bad and its easy grading if you follow directions.

Really worried that this course would be kind of boring. Not really. Eich presents the course in a very personal way. He makes you think of how all the things Touch your life. One real written assignment per session and other assignments are easy. Quizzes are right from the book. Extra-credit is always offered which is cool. Like the course.

Eich is a good teacher. He actually cares about students. I was doing bad in my course and he sent me two emails that offered help and suggestions. I did what he asked and I am now about to pass the course in very good shape. Really it is hard to fail his course the way he offers things. I recommend him. He is smart and cares. Take him.

Just finished my diversity course online. I am in high school and college courses can be scary. Mr Eich made my course easy to understand and the work was not crazy. Mr Eich explains every assignment and gives a lot of extra credit in case you mess up. I could email or call him any day. He is much better than many of my high school teachers.

Mr Eich is a very good teacher. I only received a B for the class, but that was my fault. I could have got a A but I got lazy. Mr Eich offered extracredit points and it saved my grade. He is an easy A if you just follow his direections which is easy to do. I just got lazy so my bad. Eich is a very good teacher and would take him again.

There is so much extra credit, but is extremely harsh on reflection papers. Even if you do have complete thoughts, if you don't meet his "word requirements" you are stuck with whatever grade that corresponds with the word count. Super easy to get ahold of, fantastic feedback, and fantastic at answering questions. He wants his students to succeed.

Dr. Eich was a lot of help to me when I got sick couple of weeks ago. I was really sick and he walked me through my missed assignments. Big help. He showed me he cared about my situation and wanted to help me stay on track. I will probably get an A for his class now. I was worried I lost my chance but he helped me. Great teacher in my eyes.

Professor Eich is an engaging and helpful instructor. The course material can be challenging, but Eich makes it digestible with clear explanations and plenty of extra credit. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.

I just finished my work in my sociology course. I am very happy with my final grade. Pr. Eich is a very caring teacher. I had a couple of bad weeks and he helped me get through course things. His assignments are clear. He's pretty easy, but you do have to think a bit for his papers. Follow directions and it will be great. Extra-credit - easy

Prof Eich is a great teacher. If you get a bad grade it is because easy directions are not followed. One student I know in class said Eich is bad, but this student cheats all the time. Eich called him out the last time and he got caught. Now the student is upset at prof Eich because he got caught. Prof Eich is a great teacher. He is helpful!

Dr Eich was very helpful when I struggled to understand my lessons. His feedback and our conversations were great. He was always pleasant, easy to talk to and made things easy. I really appreciated his help with my writing which is not very good. He taught me how to prepare different papers and was good with suggestions. Felt like a partner.

Student who rated Dr Eich as awful on March 4th is dead wrong. I am in the same section and Dr Eich has repeatedly asks students to turn in work and they don't. Those who turn in their work are doing fine. His mid-term report showed students with F grades, but he wrote that these grades were due to students not doing the assignments. Be honest!

Took his 8 week sociology course this spring. For me, it was an easy A. Prof planned course so everyone could get work done. Good directions and fair grader. Picky how he wanted work done, but he taught me to write better. Recommend him. Good caring teacher and is totally helpful and you can ask for help 7 days a week and on weekends to.

Diversity is called Identities and Inequalities now. Course was interesting and is practical. The lessons I had really connected to my life. Assignments were easy to understand and do. There is work but it was basically an easy course. Eich does want everyone to follow directions and gives time for work. Easy to get help. Nice to talk to.

Finished Identities and Inequalities course today. Love prof Eich because he lays things out, helps you, and graded my work just as he said he does. No surprises and really is kind of easy to take. Gives examples of every assignment. Gives reminders and time to get it all done. Extra credit is simple and helped. Will take him again.
