Difficult, but you learn a lot. Fair marker. Funny.
he's a cool guy
not difficult!! wants class to do well
Easy, uses big words
I really enjoyed his class, he was straight forward and helpful.
He's an average teacher, I wouldn't say he's easy. It's hard to get an "A-" but easy to get the "B" range marks.
He's young, kind of cute. I got an A-, didn't think he was too hard. No final exam!

good prof
Easy mark, excellcent and clear pronunciation. It's a good choice for foreign students.
he made me like english! he could anything!
different in 100 and 190. 100 is lectures and assignments are very formal (good if you take psych or poli sci or sociology also). in 190 he teaches crazy poetry and talks about anything. overall one of the best in english.
This guy's oeuvre is nothing like bacon and rural eggs. i read ventilation flo because i found it in a used bookstore and it was raining outside. fascinating read; the last page was missing, so I couldn't read who'd the perpetrator was, in the end.
A great teacher to have. He's a fun and helpful teacher.
one of the greatest teachers one can possibly have
Really nice, big on class discussions. Young, in touch with youth culture-fun. Makes boring things as interesting as possible..the class material was boring, but that's because it was a composition class. He made it pretty entertaining though. Lots of group stuff. 5 quizzes. no final exam. good :)
great teacher, tho opinionated. definitely knows youth culture. not the typical college prof type.
Great first year prof, as a science student he made english bearable! Classes are interesting and fun, and I actually learned how to write.
Farr's far out! I've never heard an instructor use deliquescence in a sentence before, and that was in reference to my use of punctuation! My parents are even saying how much smarter I look (and that's when we talk on the phone). He's difficult, but worth it.
nicest teacher at cap! extremely helpful and shows a lot of interest towards his students. his classes are fun to be in and he's got a great personality. he's good on marking too, which makes me wanna take all the classes he's teaching.
Probably the best instructor for English at Cap. Smart, involved in his area of teaching, works hard, easy to talk to, marks fairly... I wish I was staying at Cap longer so I could take more courses with Roger... he's a delight.
farr tries to make english exciting but like all the others fails horribly
he's a very nice teacher. one of the best i've had. he's easy to talk to and you actually learm from him.
nice, friendly, easy going, good at what he teaches and totally helpful. He takes the time to listen and understand *thumbs up*
the guy knows what he is talking about.... BEST teacher EVER!!!
take anything he teaches because he actually teaches you. he sticks to the course content and makes his expectations clear. knows his area.
Roger's class is entertaining and fun. Though he tells lots of amusing stories, he still covers all the material. Oh yes, and he's a fair and understanding marker (not too easy, not too hard).
A very nice guy indeed! Instead of deducting your marks from your mistakes, he makes notes and eventually improve your writting skill!! (Some other english teachers, for instance, give you C right away if you make as many as 3 grammatical mistakes)
Professor Farr was very thoreau. His class was well-paced, and he walked us through the wild parts patiently. Often we retraced our steps, that was half the walk.
take his 2nd year theory class if you can, but only if you don't mind longish lectures. changed my ideas about literature inside out and i thank him for that.
Helpful, articulate, and holds fun classes. Personable and understanding. A player of words.
He is by far the best English teacher I have ever had. I had a 4 hour class with him, but he made it very enjoyable. He's a fair marker and recommend him hands down.
Cool guy. Ask him about his almost becoming a Harlequin Romance author.
Nice guy... easy teacher and really laid back with classes... pretty easy marker all around good teacher
he's very polite and helpful.just one paper for final and some in class asignments such as presentations and short quizes.thank you for tolerating international students.
love him. nice to talk to and not bad to look at!
Nice. Not a very engaging speaker, but is very good at getting his points across if you work hard at listening. Gives a very broad range of things to write about, making his class great for people of a wide range of interests (My final paper was on the emotional effect music has on a person).
He is by FAR one of the best professors I have ever encountered. Lectures are light and easy to understand and he also has quite the humour! He is extremely open-minded and accepts a wide range of thoughts and opinions. I highly recommend him for all levels of English =)
Roger Farr is the best English teacher at Cap U! He is unconventional and made me rethink what I thought I knew. I would take any class he taught.
Roger is a really nice guy and a very entertaining prof. He has lots of fun projects and ideas to make up for the fact that there is no final. He is very open and very engaging. His moodle site is updated all the time, so even if you miss a class you won't fall far behind. Take his class! You will enjoy it.
I took the creative writing section of his class. Roger is a paradox - very pretentious but also your average guy. Many in class debates. He is very helpful, although classes often veer off topic. Roger is pretty awesome, I'd highly recommend him and take another class with him at that. Manifesto assignment was the bomb.
Made me want to come to class.
Recommended! Roger helps foster new perspectives on literature and how it reflects culture. Supportive of students comments; genuinely interested in your ideas and does not pretend to have all the answers. Assignments have clear, directed questions. In-class essay midterm and final project. Con: Final paper only assigned 3 weeks prior to deadline.
Great professor. He's very fair and engaging. His classes are entertaining, and he quite honest when he expects they won't be (ie. MLA and APA). Good use of moodle as a resource. All and all he is the kind of guy who wants you to pass his class.
This is one excellent prof. His lectures are fascinating and the assignments are imaginative. Easy to get a C+ but you'll have to work for anything higher than a B. He'll give you a blunt overview in advance if you take a draft to him though. I'd take another class with him for sure.
Very helpful, easy to talk with, excellent at generating ideas and readily provides support and encouragement. Roger is a hard-working and interesting gem of a teacher!
Best teacher I've had at cap, down to earth, engaging, funny, and you actually learn in his class. He's creative so some assignments will be a little outside the box, which is awesome! Definitely recommend Roger.
Roger is an awesome teacher. He's super understanding and he puts himself in his student's shoes. If you don't understand something, he thoroughly explains it to you one on one. He didn't always have the students that engaged with one another, but I definitely recommend him.
Being completely honest.. i fell asleep every single class. He was super nice and it was really nice of him to only get us to order a small handbook vs an expensive textbook. Perhaps it was his soothing voice that put me to sleep, but he wasn't too hard as long as you do the work.
Roger is fairly easy, especially if English is a second language. I learn a lot from him and enjoyed going to class. Very creative and original.
Rogers cool. I took english 100 as a mixed mode course with him. There wasn't much material to cover, which was nice!
Roger is very educated and knows how to share his knowledge. He takes a different approach at teaching English, which was refreshing and fairly easy to follow. Very approachable, more than happy to take as much time as necessary to explain things.
Funny guy, smart, helpful. Makes class interesting with random funny stories, gives clear notes, makes it clear what he expects. Doesn't believe in testing, so no quizzes or exam at the end. One required in-class essay that he criticizes, he's a cool guy.
I'm taking this class now and I'm so glad I ended up in his class! No grades yet but I almost don't care what I get it's the only class I look forward to every week. I wish I'd taken his other classes!!!
Roger is a very cool guy. I look forward to going to his classes because of his personality and I'm pretty sure I have a crush on him!
I look forward to this class every week; Roger is a cool guy and a fantastic teacher. The books were engrossing and there were only three so I didn't feel distracted from the rest of my coursework. The dérive assignments were so much fun and unlike any English class I've ever had.
He's friendly, but very disorganized. The assignments and his grading criteria were never very clear and things not on the syllabus got assigned last minute. Class was always behind where we should be and new styles were barely taught/explained before assigning them. Every unit was hard, not fun, & couldn't be both creative & done well. DON'T TAKE
Besides the assignments there is a mid term and thats it. Fair marker. Easy A
I started this class as a terrible writer but have learned so much even my sociology prof noticed I had improved. There are a lot of little assignments to keep track of but he breaks things down and you end up writing quite a bit. Good prof if you are motivated but I wouldn't say it's easy!
I liked his personality but his lecture was too hard as he sometimes goes off topic. tough marker but a good prof.
This was the first English class I taken in university and overall, it was a great experience. There's a decent amount of writing excercises but there's more than enough time to finish them. His feedbacks are actually helpful as well and his easy to approach if you have any questions.
Roger is a chill guy but I'm not a fan of his teaching style. Way too open ended with everything and course lacks serious structure. He doesn't teach much, just talks about random things the whole time and it gets too deep to comprehend. Isn't too tough a marker though which is nice. Lots of writing near the end of the course, you'll be scrambling.
Roger is a nice guy! I would recommend to take his class! very inspirational and hilarious!
Great Prof, very straight forward, thoughtful feedback, cares deeply about the content and keeps it relevant. I look forward to taking more of his courses!
Easy prof, honestly I did not learn a whole lot. DOES NOT WANT TO STRESS YOU OUT!!! Is super easy going. Disorganized though, scatter brained, can be difficult to follow. Really funny. Cares about his students. Knows what he is talking about. Doesnt give out much homework at all. Marks really easy. No worries with him! but does not challenge you :(
He's a real gem! A gorgeous man!!!
He was a great creative writing teacher, and gave really good feedback. He actually cared about feedback and was super nice too.
Great guy, interesting class. Clearly very intelligent and very skilled at starting thoughtful discussions. Recommended
He's a really nice and chilled out guy who cares about us learning and still makes it fun. The essays are still essays, as that's just the way she goes, but he was always an excellent professor to have in class. Very smart and never failed to offer and provide help when needed.
Late or nonexistent feedback, good luck trying to reach him on a remote learning situation.
There was only 1 online class, the rest were pre-recorded lectures. Impossible to get a hold of him, 17 unresponded emails the whole semester, it's a miracle I even got the grades I did. It could've been great if he was active. I had no idea if I was on the right track, and I didn't even know how I was doing until the final mark was posted. 2/10.
Nice guy but you have no way of reaching him and he cancels so many classes. Instructions are sometimes unclear and he grades everything at the end of the year. If you have other options for a teacher and want a good grade I would recommend that instead. If you just want the credits this will do fine.
Roger does pretty good keeping the online class content interesting but 3/4 of people don't share video or say anything...I don't even think half of them were actually there. people would ask the same random questions over and over and interrupt lectures and discussions it was frustrating but not his fault
It was awful. He didn't even teach anything, just a few recorded lectures and the rest are gone. NEVER REPLY TO EMAILS. Don't even care about his student AT ALL. EXTREME TOUGH GRADER. Criteria for assignments and essays are no where to be found. ALWAYS mark your work by the end of the semester so you have no ideas what or how you are doing.
Roger's class was fairly easy and straight forward. Overall I enjoyed it but - and this is a big but - he takes FOREVER to get marks back. It took halfway through the semester to get my first grades back, which is really frustrating. And since its an async course, you feel a bit left to your own devices.
Pretty straightforward English course. Had no problem getting questions answered in class and fair comments. Went out of his way to send me several recommended readings for another essay in a different class I was taking.
Roger is one of the coolest profs ever, he truly cares about his students mental health and his lectures arent too heavy and are easy to follow along. love him
Was an asynchronous class and he met us 3 maybe 4 times when it was supposed to be twice a week with the second class being optional. He only replies to emails from 1130-230 on Mondays and if he doesn't get to you in that time you have to hope he replies to enough emails that he makes it to yours the next time as they're "first come first serve".
Poor feedback if he manages to mark it in a timely fashion. Very disrespectful of our time as students. Very limited time for students to access him as a source to help with his course material or clarification. Very self oriented, talks a lot about himself being an author and why it makes him such a great writer. Wouldnt recommend or take again.
Doesnt prioritize education if he even considers the level of education he's providing at all. Not available to students outside of class expect for 3 hours a week on Mondays, outside of that you're SOL. Relies heavily on old lecture slides and youtube videos. Also a very slow marker, so feedback is very limited
I'm doing an online course and we are supposed to have zoom meetings once a week. We only had 3 online meetings during the entire term, all other zoom meetings he kept canceling. He is hardly reachable, I wrote him 5 emails and he never responded to any of them, so don't expect any communication with him or help. He also doesn't mark assignments
He gave support for students having technical and health challenges etc it was very appreciated. Sometimes hard to reach on email but very helpful and accommodating during zoom meetings
Very disappointing, online synchronous/asynchronous class. He only attended 3 or 4 of the mandatory online classes and cancelled the rest. Very limited office hours if you want to attend to get ahold of him. hasn't graded half of my work which makes it very hard to know how I'm doing in the class.
WORST PROFESSOR. Went To office but it wasn't even there. Doesn't email every day. I have emergencies and he doesn't help at all.
Legit doesnt grade anything. I have no clue how I did in this class and I'm sure my gpa dropped bc u legit cant reach him outside of class and basically are teaching urself with no clue how ur grades are. Seems like a nice guy but not a great teacher.
I think Roger had a personal matter b/c he did not show up this semester & was hard to reach. The course in itself is solid - engaging, fun, and easy. Roger is passionate about Vancouver & I respected how much he honored the indigenous people. I hope students give him another chance b/c he cares about your reflections more than grading you harshly.
Nice guy and if you want an easy class this is for you!
people in my class were complaining about it from the first week I think they had to take an online class and were confused. I found Roger very helpful and encouraging in person. These comments seem personal
Great prof so far. Answers emails quickly and course is well organized and easy to follow along.
The course material is engaging and valuable to learn. Unfortunately, Roger takes a long time distribute marks. 7 assignments have been given so far to over 30 students. Roger has yet to give grades to myself and other students in the course I've discussed this issue with. It's hard to know how you're doing nearly 10 weeks in with no feedback.
Didn't grade anything until end of semester, so we had no guidance or feedback. Used the same course material over and over, which required us to recycle the same thoughts throughout the course, rather than expanding on anything. Did not answer emails. Hard grader, providing unhelpful, vague feedback for some things, and nothing for others.
I learned alot from this course. Feedback on my work was detailed.
Roger is a great teacher! He's nice, replies to emails, and gives detailed feedback. Sometimes he might take a little time to respond, but it's worth waiting for. I recommend him! But just be sure to manage your deadlines. 😊
Slow to answer emails but he explained why at the first class. Comments were all focused on the rubric he provided and were very clear. No exams! Teaches to the top of the class so I bet why some people might not like him
Online class was well organized and easy to follow, focused and not too many links like other classes. Zoom was the best way to get questions answered, email not so much. Don't think he's teaching at Cap anymore which is too bad. Would have taken another class with him!
Decent class but don't take if it's part of IDEA program they complain about everything and refuse to join conversations
There once was a poet-professor Who found Capilano a stressor. When the place started sliding He chose to stop hiding And left for a life that was fresher.
