Very easy class. Just go to class and copy down notes.
Work with a tutor to stay ahead of the curve.
I got an A but he needs communication skills help.
Cool teacher. Makes the class fun. Tests are essay only. No multiple choice.
awesome class!!! Cool teacher. He makes class interesting. A must for all econ majors!
I liked Professor Frantz, but his explanations were sometimes confusing. I got an A by attending class regularly and working with an outside tutor.
Professor Frantz is entertaning, helpful, and remembers what its like to be a student. He is one of the best econ prof. here. Makes Econ real easy. Take notes and practice his old exams that can be downloaded from his web page, and u will do just fine.
Easy essay test, takes questions straight off of study guides. Not my favorite professor but he is alright. You will REALLY enjoy him if you're right-wing.
do not take!!very hard
Very funny! His tests are from old exams on his website. He doesn't get too in depth. He likes to make fun of the trouble makers in class. Easiest teacher for Econ 321
easy to understand
His test are hard, but he'll work with you. You won't fail unless you completely don't try. Even if you do bad you can get a C as long as you show some initiative and try. He's not trying to fail you, but the test are no joke. He's cool though.
Took him for more than one class and he is funny and nice BUT tests are essay and very hard. no partial credit. MUST READ BOOK AND GO TO CLASS. lots of work
Holy **** this class is hard. You must study VERY hard for the tests. His class is all lecture and little else. He is a real nice guy , but dont expect him to show you mercy if your grades are not up to par.
Frantz is a pretty cool teacher, but his tests are really hard. His lectures are interesting but its so hard to get a good grade in this class.
curves exams and final grade, without the curve i would have done so wrong in this class. knows his stuff and explains what you really need to know with microeconomics.
This class was much easier then his 311 I had. He prepares you well for the test. I did not have to study even close to as hard for this class as I did for 311. He is a cool guy. He gave me **** all the time(all in fun). He has a good sense of humor.
13 people failed this class. I got a C. Must go to class to pass and test are based upon class notes 80% and book 20%. Nice guy and the class does have a curve.
His 321 class was easy. This, however is a freaking hard class. I failed it. I will be here an extra semester, taking only 3 units because of this class. He gets pissed if you miss class a lot without doing his plan x thing.
This guy's great. Good lectures, with occasional corny jokes. But funny, and he's a nice guy. Tests are a simple matter of memorization. NO Mult. choice, you have to memorize and regurgitate lists of things, such as highlights of economists' teaching.
What a ****. Forces you to listen to boring lectures that have barely any usuable content for the exams. Exams are all super hard written with no prep guidance from Frantz. I hope no one else ever is forced to go through this crappy class. Terrible...
he's okay, gives ancient exams and copy/pastes questions, sometimes funny, some reading, i came to class everyday, had C average but curved so got a B in the class
Frantz is pretty unclear, therefore Major studying required. Try to sit next to a friend during exams. funny republican.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you want to know how if feels to study your ass off for the first test only to realize the entire exam is written (don't try to bs your way through it) and fail miserably.
the class is hard.. but he does his best teaching it. u have 5 tests and u can drop the lowest test grade and take another one..he has a very nice study guide.. so dont buy the book. he is very kind and will help u during his office hours. he tries to be funny and only wears 2 shirts the entire year
Don't buy the book. He has a huge CalCopy study guide for you to buy--and the book won't help you anyway. Tests are hard, but the curve will save you every time!
It's useless reading the book because the questions on the quizzes are not based on what's in the book. I bet the class average would be at C or below if it weren't for his generous curve.
he is pretty unclear and his tests r really hard and obscure... there r only 5 tests.. no assignments so good luck if u mess up on one of the tests.. it really hurts ur grade. he has an okay study guide.. the book is useless... he makes stupid jokes here and there. didn't like him at all..
Not too tough just go to class and make sure you really study his study guides. Fun class, made some French girl cry (he hates the French). Take the class he goes pretty slow just make sure that you have read and have good notes by the time the tests roll around.
Easy class, he was pretty cool with some corny jokes. Dont even have to go really except for tests. Just read the book for a A. He even dropped the lowest test grade and had a HUGE curve.
This guy is a horrible teacher. Even though he is pretty forgiving about grades and I got an A, I would definetely not recomend anyone taking his class. Horrible at explaining things, extremely unclear. All he does is state facts, never really teaches you anything.
I thought this guy was a jerk. He made me scared to ask questions in class. His lectures are all over the place and I was one point away from an A- and he didn't give it to me. He expects to much reading and detail.
Lectures are random. Gives you obsure stats and expects you to remember them for the test. "What country has the highest Gini coeffcient?" If you are conservative hes a pretty funny guy if liberal watch out. I could have gotten a B but slept through 1/2 the lectures.
Horrible teacher. Gives study guide but doesn't ask questions from the study guide on exam. He wants to fail students. Exams are 10 essay questions each.
WARNING: DO NOT take Frantz for ECON 321 during Summer 2005, or ever. YOU WILL FAIL. He teaches all his upper-division courses as if they were graduate classes. He wants to fail you.
Not sure about the other posts, but this semester was great. Only one test was not from the study guide, and it was curved to exclude what was not on the study guide. Lots of memorization, and take home final.
He is a great Professor. His lectures are so clear. He really has a passion for Economics and teaching his students. The problem is that the students don't take interest and create a discussion. He test off of his study guide and is very direct and to the point about what he wants the students to learn. Great guy and I recommend taking him.
I was really scared and nervous to take his calss, but I ended up liking it. He is pretty funny and will spit out random phrases. Yes, he is hard. Yes, you will work a lot. But just go to class and take detailed notes and study and you will be fine. 4 test-mostly multiple choice and some essay ?'s. He is really niceand understanding.
I don't know what class people are taking to say such negative about this guy. I took 321 this summer and it was very easy. If you have even the slightest ability in economics (elasticity, indifference curves, efficiency), you'll ace it. I never cracked the book, barely studied, and only studied his notes and I got an A.
I NEVER went to class and I have to say I still got a B. so that tells you.
take his option Y where you only have to show up for tests. all you have to do is study the book on your own time and you will get an A
Easy class if you know anything about economics. Example: elasticity, supply/demand, economic naturalists, averages and marginalities. . . congratulations you have an A.
Okay, i'm an idiot...I actually read the posts here but still took him. If you are an "A" student and want to keep getting "A's", avoid Frantz at all costs for Econ 321 (especially in Summer). He single-handedly messed up my Econ GPA from all A's to a C-. Definitley not a good teacher, definitely does not know what he's talking about because he wou
His writing is sloppy, but he explains everything as he writes it down. Doesn't give any time to debate. He tells you what he knows, your write it down, and it's all on the test
This guy is interim department chair of the Spanish department and DOES NOT speak or write Spanish. That's is why I love SDSU -- it prides itself on academic excellence!!!
I have no idea what people are talking about. His tests are tough, but he curves the grades. He allowed us extra credit for the low test scores in the class. He is more than fair.C'mon students, this is college. You need to study a little and come to class. If you want to learn, take the class. If you are looking for an easy "A", take PE or something.
Tests are hard, but he gives a WICKED curve at the end. Tough it out and you'll make it.
GREAT CURVE.
Ummm this is probably one of the easiest econ classes I have taken at state. He basically tells you exactly what will be on each test and gives you extra time to study if the Chargers win. I was really annoyed by the curve because I busted my butt to get an A fair and square and basically everyone with a 75 percent or higher got the same A as me.
Sounds to me like Prof. Frantz wrote some of the postings on this website himself. I am a recent grad of the Econ dept. and no student would write some of the ratings I've read here.
This was a pretty easy class. Tests weren't too hard and he has a generous curve. You can drop your lowest of the first five tests. He gives you practice tests that he posts on blackboard. Almost all the questions on the tests are on the practice tests. Easy class. Show up, take notes, study the practice questions and you'll do good.
Very easy class eventhought I took it in the summer. Very low curve. 70 is a B. Drop one test. Test examples are on Blackbroad.
Dr. Frantz is a quirky quy but he's pretty cool. The tests were fair. All of the notes are on blackboard. I went to most of the classes, got an A.
Great Class, one of the only econ classes that is easier if you smoke a little before class. He relates really well to his students and is a very cool conservative.
Frantz is the biggest dork that you will probably come across at SDSU. With that said class in definitely NOT MANDATORY. If you want a laugh id say go though, its what i did. He really is a good man that means well. Class is easy, show up every now and then study practice tests and a B if not an A is in your future. Take Frantz over other teach's
311 is economic history story time with Frantz and a pretty enjoyable history class. Practice tests similar to the actual tests are posted on blackboard. Great prof, I recommend him.
This class was pretty difficult for me since it was theories. Class is somewhat mandatory since everything he lectures goes on the test! He got sick so we had a sub (larry smith). Overall, class was all memorization. He said he's gonna do a new grading system next sem which is suppose to make it easier for the students, so I recommend taking him.
Great Professor. He is a silly man. He likes his students to do well and is very funny. Straight foreward and helpful.
We mainly followed the packet from Calcopy. Horrible research paper about a country of our choice. Quizzes can be tricky; the final was all about memorization. He likes econ. history and gov't. He's into philosophy of econ. Anti-gov't intervention. Funny guy. Gave points for attendance. Heavy curve. Can be confusing & hard to follow. Not too bad
Very good teaching style. Show up, take the test, rest is up to you. Freedom is always nice
I enjoyed how pessimistic Frantz was against gov't. His quizzes are based off of whether you were in class or not and he gives practice tests and sometimes the answers to all of the quesions.
Easy class, great teacher, he's entertaining. Memorize the studyguides!
If you want to learn and still not have to read that much, take Frantz. If you don't want to be bored to death, take Frantz. And if you want to get an A, take Frantz. Its as simple as that. Have a good day.
Take this teacher if you want to just kickback every day in class or not attend... He provides study gives before the tests, which basically have the same questions as the tests.. easy just memorize them. and he just counts 3 test out of four..(drops the lowest!) & weekly online quizzes.. which are straight out of the notes.nice guy w/ cute jokes.
Really good teacher. You will learn a lot from him. Don't worry about using the textbook, not really necessary.
He is a really nice, knowledgeable, and helpful professor. He seems to genuinly care if you are interested in learning about what is being taught.
Mr. Frantz thinks that students don't have eyes or ears but many of us are aware that he goes through the motions as though he cared about teaching. But some students do care about learning because the fees are hiking and the economy is getting worse by the hour. So Roger, do your work and tighten the screws.
He thinks he's fabulous. If you want to take his classes, just go and check him out.
He is simply brilliant. His lectures are so formal and structured that you can't miss a word. He's impressive, optimistic, energetic, fun. I want to be like him cz there is no one else like him.
He still thinks he works hard and that students believe that he is actually interested in teaching and the "teaching style".
Go and check and see. You'll find out what you really need to know.
he can be confusing... but study his online notes & you'll be fine. listen carefully to what he has to say though. it'll help you in the long run.
He is the MAN. awesome teacher super easy. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. SERIOUSLY. mine never came out of the packaging. easy grader (at the end) and if you actually WANT to learn, you will. his teaching style is hilarious and he's just an overall great professor!
HIghly recommend, a great teacher. A little crazy but no hw just a quiz every class day thats like 5 questions. So easy I got an easy A and hes a little entertaining
Don't take this class! Seriously! He is really old, and he just bashes the Obama administration and global warming, etc. He is a pain in the ass and his tests are SO hard! Quiz every day online, plus 3 tests and one optional final. I thought I would fail this class. I hated it. Don't take it!
Good guy. Very funny. Pay attention and you will learn. The daily quizzes are easy. Just review more than I did for the exams and you should easily have an A.
easy class. nice guy.
This teacher was unclear and jumped from subject to subject. He included way too much info that is not tested on and quizzes after every class. Exams had almost nothing to do with what he went over and we only cracked open the book in the beginning. I went to every class and still did bad. It is hard to listen to his monotone voice!
Took Summer Online class....daily lectures are a minimum of 1 hour each. Quizzes and Tests are easy enough if you pay attention. Quirky in a funny way and would recommend as a Summer Course. Apparently hates Lebron James as well.
One of my favorite professors at SDSU! He is funny, helpful and just a good teacher overall. Took two classes with him. He curves, gives you extra points for attendance, cares about his students and tries to help YOU to get a good grade! Highly recommended!
Take it online! Easiest class EVER!
His lectures move quickly so you have to pay attention. Most of the questions on the tests are taken from the notes- which he posts online. Difficult subject matter, but he makes it interesting and understandable. Not an easy A, but if you work hard it'll pay off.
Took this class online. Challenging but do-able. If you take good notes on his lectures then you'll do fine on the quizzes. His exams are Multiple Choice, and it can be challenging. He likes to trick you in terms of the wording so pay close attention to detail! Book may be needed for the exams.
Quizzes after every class (not as bad as it sounds). He doesn't help you if you miss any quizzes even if big excuse. Talks to himself a little. Does the notes on paper, but they are kinda everywhere. Fairly simple. He posts old exams and answers as practice. Oh and he makes spelling errors... a lot.
Funny looking teacher. Tests are a joke but when it comes to calculating grades, Frantz doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
Very funny, friendly professor. Simple quizzes after every class (doesn't hurt to miss a few; you get 2 tries on each). Exams basically consist of lecture notes. Almost no textbook use (unless you don't understand his explanation for things or don't attend class). Drops low exam. One of the best professors, also one of the few Conservatives.
Good teacher. The quizzes are kind of tricky sometimes. Puts out a study guide before the exam. Tests are almost a mirror image of the guide. Very interesting to listen to.
DO NOT GET THIS TEACHER! He doesn't make any sense and neither does his class. His notes are unclear, and he gives you daily quizes that have nothing to do with the notes you took in class that day. Do not take him if you want to understand what is going on!
He is a very boring professor and at times confusing. Also his lectures are not mandatory but he will say stuff that are on the quizzes which are almost everyday after class online so find a friend and do it together. They can be frustrating because some of the stuff might not be from class or the book but reading helps tests are like practice ones
never went to clas and got an A. Daily Quizzes though that will ultimately decide your grade. 5 points each, but they add up and will sway your final grade one way or another
So to the point, his lectures are pointless, he reads off the slides. The course has tons of information, more history than economics. The quizzes and tests are ill prepared and confusing. The only reason to take his class is he offers so many curves and freebees that its easy to pass
Easy homework, tests are confusing. Had him for fall 2012.
ZERO STUDY GUIDE LEFT TO WONDER WHERE INFO FOR QUIZZES COMES FROM YOU HAVE TO GUESS WHAT FROM COLLABORATIVE +NOTES WILL BE ON THE TEST, YOU'LL PROBABLY STUDY WHAT HE WONT ASK FOR
Don't buy the textbook because you'll never use it. He seems pretty unprofessional because he doesn't care. He says things that are inappropriate in a classroom setting. Weekly quizzes are confusing, but based on lecture notes.
This class is super easy to pass. Weekly online quizzes which you can ace if you go to class and take notes. However his lectures suck and aren't that helpful for the tests. The tests aren't too bad if you study. Doesn't take attendance so easy to skip. He loves to share his political views. Nice guy. Drops your lowest test score. I'd recommend him
Very confusing. Lectures are unorganized. I had to teach myself most of the material. He does curve all the tests and quizzes at the end of the semester though.
You will learn a lot in history of thought. However the usefulness of anything in the class is up for debate. I would recommend taking a 500600 Math or Stats class instead.. His lectures are some combination of painfully unorganized and oddly-humorous. I very much like him as a human being, but find his teaching deplorable.
I like him as a person but as a professor he's awful. His lectures are confusing, he doesn't even know what he's talking about half the time. hard weekly quizzes. he got caught giving false info more than once thought the semester. dont buy the book you don't need it. get a study group for tests. he does curve the whole class which is really nice.
Test are straight out of the lectures. I had a hybrid course and it was in class for one day and online for another. he couldnt figure out how to use the online lecture half the time so we just ended up not having class. he records the online lecturers when they do work and posts them. study those and you will pass. rarely use the books
Half the time you are there you won't know what he is talking about. Stick to the book. You have to go to class for the iclicker points though. Sometimes he is funny. The TA's are your best friends for this class. Get to know them check blackboard and your e-mail frequently. There are curves on almost everything. tb not used in class but at home.
I would not recommend this teacher is his teaching strategy is extremely confusing. He was all over the place in the lectures and would always waste around 10 minutes to set up the projector and struggle with the i-clicker set up as well. I read the book and it was much more clearer. Just get over 60% on exams and do all HW's and you should pass.
His class is dull. It is all lecture and sometimes his lectures go all over the place with his choice in words or his interest in a different topic aside from economics. It is an easy class to pass though. He curves everything! Beware: Political Opinion is expressed in the class His iClicker Questions are the really reason why you need to go.
4 exams throughout the year and he drops the lowest exam score. Weekly quizzes that you need to make sure you take or you won't pass. Attendance required for clicker points.
Frantz is a boring lecturer but you have to go due to clicker points. There is usually one or two quizzes a week but he drops the lowest. His lectures are boring and his clicker questions are confusing and he doesn't always clearly answer them. The three tests aren't too bad and the final is cumulative but the questions are taken from old tests
Overall this class isnt too bad. You have to go to class because there are iclicker qs and for his boring lectures. He is very confusing and talks very quiet and mumbles a lot so sit close. There are about two online quizzes a week and 3 tests and 1 final which is made up of the 3 tests. Subject matter really isnt hard just be ready to teach urself
Don't take him. He is very random and doesn't do a good job at teaching the material. The assignments and quizzes are online, but the 3 midterms and final is in class. He does clicker questions practically every class, so I suggest going to class because they add up and by the end of semester you wish you had those points.
If you are passionate about econ, don't take this guy, he drains all the "fun" out of th subject. There are no positives about this guy besides the clicker points. Go to class, get every clicker point. I missed one class with three clicker points and that is what prevented me from getting a higher letter grade, three points, and he didn't raise it.
I could have only passed this class with the test drop and with little points here and there. Do not underestimate this class; it may seem easy but you need to work for that A. Go to class for the i-clicker questions. He makes his own tests and quizzes so the questions and answers are obviously wacky. Know your stuff or you will have a hard time.
He hardly ever actually taught and did a terrible job teaching but it is a passable class.
He is hard to understand and moves quickly. He gives you pages in the textbook to correspond with the class notes however I only used the textbook to help me with his weekly quizzes. He used an I-clicker in class so attendance is a must. He has online quizzes and several in class quizzes. I suggest you create a study group with others to pass.
DO NOT TAKE FRANTZ! He his a horrible teacher & I practically had to teach myself. He makes absolutely no sense during his lectures, he often mumbles & inserts his right wing political views into his lectures. The one good thing I have to say is that he makes it easy to pass bc his curves are so high.
He gives A LOT of quizzes...a LOT. they are all online, but you gotta keep up with them. His lectures are ok, he just mumbles. You'll need an iclicker for this class and you'll want to study the textbook to learn what he doesn't teach well in class. when people talk in class he just leaves which is stupid for the people that are there to learn.
You have to write down EVERYTHING from his lectures or you will be lost on the quizzes. There are two quizzes per week, but they are worded weirdly and don't make sense. He does curve the grade in the end, but I left knowing as much about economics as I did when I started the class. I would recommend a different professor for this course.
AVOID!!! If you can take someone else- do it! Thank goodness I took AP Econ in high school or I would have failed. Everyone in that class was constantly lost. He ranted about politics and how rich he was all the time. The quizzes never made sense and he often got his own answers wrong. He would walk out of class for no reason and then assign a quiz
This class is an easy A for econ. Show up, take notes, and do the online quizzes and the 3 out of the 4 tests and your solid. He mumbles a lot, and one day he walked out of class saying that people were talking too much. He makes it clear he is conservative and will talk about it somewhat frequently such as stating that the wage gap isn't real.
Need to come to class because of clicker questions. There are quizzes every week, so need to read and take notes on lectures. The tests aren't completely easy and should study way in advance. Sometimes difficult to understand in lectures.
His lectures are terrible and he doesn't make what he is saying clear. He makes a lot of mistakes on the quizzes and tests which he writes himself. Do not take this class. His grading is all over the place. He curves his tests to about 70 because everyone does terrible on them due to not knowing what he expects us to know.
Professor Frantz shows great passion for his field. Homework is light. In Econ 311 there was a light quiz every week. easy to get 100% on each one. Just read them carefully. Readings will appear on tests. There were 3 tests, and one final. Each were simple, and he dropped the lowest one. Generous Curve. Overall very enjoyable class. Learned tons.
