If you want to learn, take him. He isn't the easiest, but if you put forth studying effort, you will make an A. He is always there to help, too.
He tests and teaches on a chemical level, but his lectures are very lively. His stories and examples are quite funny.
Very smart, take him if u want to learn alot good lectures, not the easiest but very knowledgable.
i dont find his lectures lively at all. he is very smart, sometimes too smart and thats annoying.
He is very hard. He is very smart and knows his stuff but sometimes makes things harder than they really are. His tests are exceptionally difficult.
Difficult to follow.
He's a great teacher but also very difficult. After taking him for THREE courses (115, 116, 216), I found some helpful hints. Go to class EVERYday. Take GOOD notes. READ the book. STUDY ahead of time. You'll do good.
The first semester in anatomy was easy, physiology was hard, but patho- was a breeze. He chases a lot of rabbits but what he covers in class is exactly what his tests are on. If you show up to c;ass and take notes, you should be fine.
I have never wanted to fall asleep in any class I have ever taken as much as I have in his. He's too boring, too hard to follow. However I guess he does the best he can with the material provided.
Very boring! Very smart guy but sometimes to smart, which can make lecture even worse. He really does try to help you out with outlines, graphs and practice tests online. Though if you stop by to ask a question get ready he is very long winded.
Takes time to spell out fundamentals of learning, posts this in theory and application online. Very committed, fair and thorough. Genuinely excited about teaching his students, not just a subject. Gets a hard wrap from students because he pushes them. Valuable experience, subject inherently hard.
he is alright...goes off on tangents, and sometimes too smart about the material...but you can get through it
Hard class! He is very smart and expects us to be. Makes things hard to understand. Spends too long at beginning and has to rush end material to get ready for the test.
What others say is true,he has lots of knowledge and talks to the class sometimes as if you are on his level. It is also true that he is long winded, but I think this an effort to try and get people to understand what he wants to get across to them. ADVICE: take good notes and study them thoroughly!
He is very smart but also very hard. If you want to do good go to class, take good notes and READ THE BOOK. He is a great person and you learn a lot in his class.
donot take his class
He is a great teacher, but he is also very hard. Don't just rely on your notes...read the book. Don't be scared to ask for help...he doesn't bite.
Excellent teacher. Extreme reliability and clarity. Fair treatment toward everyone. Challenges you to think rather than memorize. You will learn how to study to pass.
He has shared ideas and thoughts that are unusual for a professor to share. While he is extremely intelligent, he also has a soft side, he once read a poem that he wrote. He cares and thinks about his students and wants them to learn not only the material but also learn about themselves and life

hard to understand in lecture..read the book and you'll do fine..
very smart man who i do believe thinks that his students should be on the same level that he is. his tests are tough! go to class and study study study!! dont take it lightly! he is a good teacher and i enjoyed his class very much...just be prepared to work hard!
From what i've read of other review they are mistaking the fact that he's often blatently wrong for "omg he so smart i didn't know that's how it really was" because quite often it isn't this man stood in front of the class for 10 min saying the sun is the biggest source of energy in the Universe and that all organic molecules are completely insol
From an applied math, fisics and engineering point of view this man is as wrong as it can be. If you are a pre med student forced by some wierd phenomenom to take his class, listent to only 3 out of ten words and you will avoid cpu meltdown. From a simplified physiology point of view, it is ok, nothing that anatomy hadn't told you already.
His lecture is okay, you don't always have to go. Read the book and you'll do fine.
He is horrible.
Good class, but be prepared to study for the test.

Have ADN and I think he lectures very well. However my concern is that everything I know (not just memorized) was not reflected in his exam. Advice: easy on the things that you already know and slowly read 4 comprehension the Q/A's on his exams. It is all in his lecture, repeated redundently, so record lectures. Listen 2 him, not caotic students!!
OMG did anyone take this man for anatomy!! his objective are brod, and his test are wordey. dont take him if you can
" so record lectures. Listen 2 him, not caotic students" this coming from someone who can't spell CHAOTIC.....honestly did you also believe his 10 min lecture on the sun being the largest thing in the universe too?? lol
Not too bad. Tests are pretty much straight from the notes. If you go to class, and study the notes, you should be fine.
His lecture has nothing to do with tests. Read your book.
good teacher difficult test though
Gilchrist is a very good teacher. His lectures are very interesting and he is a very nice and approachable man. He will go out of his way to help you and he gives many opportunities for extra credit if you attend class. His tests, however, are VERY difficult. You MUST study to do well in his classes.
Ok the lecture about the sun did happen...but his class isn't impossible and 98% of what he says is factual i messed up the first test being over specific but if you take everything as general instead of specific's it's an easy class i made a 100 on the last test it is Do-able.
I canot stand this man! He is ugh!! He says he is willing to help you, yet when you ask him a question he goes on and on for an hour, but never answers the question. His test are AWEFUL! Just dont do it!
His class is not that bad. im in it now and have made a b on every test (3) so far. his lectures arent that helpful sense they come directly from the book. as a matter of fact i havent taken a single note i just read the book and pass with flying colors. the test are very general so if you read you will pass.
This is man crazy, he is not aapproachable at all. He is very standoffish. He'll give people mean looks. And he just rambles on and on. Does he answer your questions NO!!! But it is a class that you have to take. His tests are to wordy and he expects you to know everything like your a doctor. He tries to be funny but his not.
This teacher is not hard at all. you should always read your book and go to lecture if you don't understand something in the book. He is very fair and all questions can be found in the book. But if you keep up with the reading and occasionally go to SI, you will be fine :)
He is not nice at all. He is not willing to help you in any way. It's pretty much do it yourself or fail. He knows what he is teaching but doesn't present it in a way that helps students. Reading the book helps more than going to class.
Dr. Gilchrist is a wonderful teacher! This is a medical university and things aren't meant to be easy!!! We are adult learners now people! This professor doesn't supper the stupid! Everyone I know, including myself, who has succeeded in the medical professor has respected this man and did what they were suppose to do as students! Just b/c someone i
Gilchrist is honest and fair. He gives you specific directives as objectives and multiple practice questions for each one. If you apply yourself and answer the objectives, you cannot fail. His tests are not overly hard if you prepare but if you memorize notes or skip class you'll fail. He wants you to be a thinking human, not a college robot!
If you plan to enter the SON: this man is your gem for preparation. YOU NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS AND KNOW THEM WELL!!! Don't let the grades hold you back, but don't worry about them too much. TRY TO LEARN! He was fair, and always willing to discuss areas of difficulty. Keep the conversations directed and don't be afraid to interrupt him!!!
No matter how much you study, go to class, and pay attention there is no guarantee that you will do well on the tests. His questions on the test seem to come from no where. Even with preparing and understanding all concepts, his questions and answer choices are tricky.
This man is on a whole other world...he talks really fast so taking notes is no fun. You do not know what to expect from his tests...I study alot and go to class everyday and I am barely making it thorough. If you take him, prepare to teach yourself. If you can avoid him like the plague!
This class is horrible! He is a nice guy but should not be teaching this class...he should be in med school teaching. I pretty much teach myself in this class b/c it is so hard to take notes nor does he use them on the test. If you must take this class, your book will be your best friend!
i guess he's alright, although a little arrogant, but who cares just give me my grade. i attended class 8 times that semester and those were the day before n the day of the exam. i studied from my book until i KNEW the chapters backward n forward n came out with a high B. the exams are fairly simple if u know the material. STUDY HARD N LONG!!!
I don't know why everyone says he's so hard. I will agree that he's so intelligent that he's on another level and has difficulty relating the info to those not on his level. The best way to pass this class is knowing some medical term. His tests are critical thinking style but come from his lectures. I never opened my book. Go to class, pay attenti
Love Dr. Gilchrist! He is HARD but as long as you read the chapters in the book & do his reviews before the tests, you will be fine! I also studied the quizes on the Anatomy CD that came with the book & that helped a lot. The hardest thing about this class is the lab.. and you have to really study long and hard for it.
Makes class interesting, but you're responsible for a lot of material on your own. Read the text and pay attention in lab and you'll be ok. Overall, he's a good teacher and the class is quite interesting
Nice guy, lectures interesting and usually from a different perspective than the book, examples clear, but do read the text. He is good about answering questions in class. Learning the concepts in lab helps a lot on lecture tests. Most of lecture is easy-going, but last 10-15 min are at mach 3...be ready for that.
Dr. Gilchrist is a great teacher. Study outlines, notes, and the book. I record his lectures, and that helps alot! You WILL NOT do good in his classes if you do not study, because his test questions are very tricky, and require that you know the material and understand it in a form thats not always just something youve memorized out the a book.
I have the STUDENT WORKBOOK if anyone needs it, I will give it to them cheap. Email me at [email protected] This class is very demanding, you will have to dedicate much time to studying. I would suggest recording lecture, taking notes, reading book, and most of all studying the STUDENT WORKBOOK the workbook helped me the most
Dr.Gilchrist tries hard to answer your questions. It is sometimes hard in class to figure out what chapter where on. Read the book or at least the outlines because the book sucks. Do the study guide it makes all the difference in the world. Even though, the questions are not always put in the right chapter. You need to go to class.
He is a nice person one-to-one. But I could not follow his lectures at all.
Team taught and only interesting because Gilchrist was there. Appel really didn't provide much info other than testing stuff. Some questions ar hard but look at your ppt's the answers are there, just don't memorize it!
I really enjoyed Dr. Gilchrist's class.
This class requires that you study and that you comprehend what it is that you are studying. Overall it is an intresting class but you definetly have to step it up!
You can easily make B by reading book even if you don't go to class regularly. However, to get A of course you have to work on it really hard. Overall Dr. Gilchrist was really nice and helpful. :D
Having him for Anatomy, and then Physiology made me second guess my first high opinions. He is still in my eyes a great teacher to have for these sciences, but his Physiology class is a bit harder than his Anatomy class. He makes things as easy to understand as he can, its just up to you to go home and put it to work.
Dr. G is more than helpful when you need time/advice. He is really smart so be prepared for his lectures. scimming the readings is a must to his lectures and u will be good to go. As a new physical therapy student I can tell u this man made it real and gave me what I needed not to be the next Ex-PT student!
Best teacher ever. Challenging, but he makes the class very interesting and interactive. Take him whenever possible.
Challenging class, but Gilchrist is AMAZING. Read the textbook before lecture or you will be lost. I got an A and spent about ten hours a week outside of class studying (more during exam weeks). If he posts online audio lectures, you better listen because you WILL be tested on the material. The man is brilliant . I highly reccomend.
I've had Dr. Gilchrist twice, for Physiology and just finished his Pathophysiology course. Hands down, best prof. I've had in my 3 years at UAB. He is extremely approachable if you go talk to him. The textbook helps to supplement in studying along with his notes from class. I made a B in both classes. Highly recommend, he's an asset to UAB! A+ prof
Gilchrist's lectures are very scattered and all over the place. Often times when he was writing numbers on the board (such as blood pressures and heart rates)he sounded unsure of himself and seemed to just go with something he figured was ok. I have never had a professor as confusing as him according to lectures/tests. IMO steer clear if possible.
Extremely hard class! Blueprints for the test are not helpful!
Dr. Gilchrist's the best teacher hands down & fair too. Read material b4 class, do quizzes in a group & maximize the points. Seek help on project and max out points. Tests are hard but if you have quiz & project locked down & try hard in class you will still do well. Key-read text book or @least chapter summary, do chap questions and review answers
I did not use my book at all. The test were not easy and seemed to come from what he said more than anything in the notes or book. I recorded his lecures and listened to them again taking notes. He is helpful if you ask him a question in class, but do not expect him to respond to emails promptly. Very unorganized. Posts materials late!
Dr. G knows his stuff, however he is unorganized and he gives soooo much information that if you miss class you miss things HE WILL PUT ON TEST. Questions come more from what he says in class and not his notes. It isn't hard to pass his class with a very good great. Do everything he gives you and you can pull off an A
Great guy and great professor!! But watch out! Because he knows his stuff!! STUDY STUDY STUDY! This class is HARD, but do-able!! I put in 5-15 hours a week outside of class, but you have to to get a good grade!
I didn't find his lectures unorganized or all over the place. Instead, he lectures at a rapid pace and rarely repeats himself to cover the necessary glut of info. My advice, attend class, record the lecture and write basic notes. Then, listen to recording and take DETAILED notes alongside ppt. Understand your notes = A. Use book as a reference.
Gilchrist is very scatter-brained. It is hard to follow his lectures. I never struggled in anatomy, but his class is another species. Gilchrist always waited to put online materials up the day before exams sometimes. Reading the book helped with his tests.I don't recommend Gilchrist, but it's a bullet you will have to bite for nursing school.
He is all over the place. Gave more online lecture than in-class lecture. He often misspells and makes up words. I'm an A student and I struggled terribly with this class. He's the only professor so you just have to deal with him.
This class was hard. He threw a lot of information out at once with a lot of big words where you had to ask yourself was it really a real word. However, this guy will help you if you are in a bind. He has office hours which he encourages you to attend for one on one help. Good guy, confusing class.
Dr. Gilchrist is an amazing professor. However, this class was difficult. You should be prepared to listen to the audio lectures. Although i did attend every lecture, listening to the audio was a big help on the quizzes and exams. Also, i wouldnt recommend reading the text, just skimming through the important sections. Also, DO THE BONUS PROJECT!!!
The hardest class I ever took at UAB. I didn't understand his lectures. I feel like I went to class for nothing because I didn't obtain anything.
I adored Dr.Gilchrist. He is very difficult but if you really study, you should have no problem. His notes are the holy grail so really pay attention. You will come out of his class smarter than when you came in. Get to know him, he is a really great guy.
Dr. Gilchrist is one of the best professors I have encountered. He is very helpful and thorough. Anytime I had a question he was overly willing to assist and give detailed explanations. It would benefit you to visit his office if you have any questions about materials. I absolutely adore him and I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
Highly recommend this teacher. His tests come from what he talks about during class, do not miss class. Keeps lectures interesting and engaging. His tests are challenging; but they teach you how to take exams outside of his class. I remember learning the most from his classes and even recalled the information throughout nursing school.
Dr. Gilchrist keeps class very interesting to say the least. He is very knowledgable about the subject. Going to class helps, although it is not mandatory. Use his audio lectures! He does not ask a question on the test that does not talk about in his online audio lectures.
Dr. Gilchrist was an OK teacher. He's a tad bit boring but is knowledgable about Physiology. The key to passing his class is learning his slides. Everything he tests on comes directly from his slides. Learn them and you'll pass with flying colors! No book needed and attendance isn't mandatory because he posts his lectures on Blackboard. Made a B-
Dr. Gilchrist is AWESOME! He was so passionate about what he was teaching which made the class interesting. I took this class during the summer which made it more condensed and it was a little tough. Gilchrist gives plenty of bonus questions on tests and there's a bonus project worth 20 pts! Great teacher and class!
Did not finish lecturing all of the material before our tests. Said online audio lectures would be posted on a certain date. The audios were posted later than the given deadline. Uploaded 5-7 hours of online audio lectures 1-3 days before an exam, and we were tested on the audio lecture material. Did not show up to class on several occasions.
He acts like he wants his students to do well, but makes it nearly impossible for them to pass. He does not cover all the test material in class, but then does not upload the online lectures until no more than 3 days before the test date. On multiple occasions I have had to listen to hours of online lectures in just 2 days. Terrible class
Puts his lectures online(not always on time) so you don't have to go to class but I recommend it, he's definitely not monotone in class, you can tell he wants you to understand the material. Gave 25 bonus points for doing a small project which helped A LOT!! 4 tests and then 4 online quiz, if you put in the effort an A or B is not too hard to get!
Gilchrist is a great teacher! He is tough but you can get a good grade if you study hard! His class can be boring but he is interesting most of the time. Just take good notes and study a a lot! Also don't underestimate lab.
Here is what you need to do to pass: 1. Go to class 2. LISTEN TO THE AUDIO and take notes with the corresponding audio slides. 3. Don't even attempt the blueprint and outline. You will waste your time trying to answer hundreds of questions. (#2) 4. Go talk with him. There is A LOT of information - he was able to clarify. 5. Very helpful!
Pretty interesting class (if you like to learn about diseases). Reasonable tests and align with the notes. Notes seem a bit scattered and sometimes he adds to them during lecture, so attendance is strongly advised if you want to do well. Gives a quiz and case study along with each of his three tests. If you are confused about something, ask him.
I recommend going to class and paying attention in lecture. He lectures very quickly so I recorded his lectures and listened to them to get all my notes. The unit quizzes give you a great format to look forward to for the test. Use the blueprint to study and the slides. If you put in the work, you'll get an A!
I really enjoyed this class. I was already excited for the material but he has made it better. He can get sidetracked in lecture but if you go to class and take notes you will do fine. His test are really easy if you study.
Hard test. You have to work for it. Outline his quizzes and lecture powerpoints.
Not an easy class, studying is a must: don't get behind! He makes lectures interesting and explains everything well. Would recommend recording lectures. Lab is pretty fun at times. There is a bonus project at the end of the semester worth 15 test points (a lot because there are three tests). Find a study group to talk through concepts with!
A lot of people think that this class is really hard but the professor is great and if you actually go to class and take notes and study then you will do fine! The material is tough but it is very interesting! I ever did the blue prints or opened my textbook. I just studied his review lectures and my notes and did fine.
The class itself was really interesting and he did a great job of keeping lectures engaging. Tests are tough if you don't go to class. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ONLINE LECTURES AND ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THEM, he goes back over information in these that are usually a majority of the tests. He gives a couple opportunities for extra credit toward the end.
He is very passionate, but he is not always the best with planning in advance, however he is very flexible. He will offer to move tests back if he thinks it will help. He gives lots of info, not all of which is on the test, & sometimes you can't tell what is important because of the way he teaches. But, he gives you extra credit & quizzes are fine.
Record his lectures and take excellent notes. Study this material a couple hours every day. This is how you get an A and I promise tests will be a breeze for you. Dr. Gilchrist is an amazing professor and I learned a lot from his class. I really appreciate the time and effort he put into his lectures, they were wonderful.
Dr Gilchrist is a seriously seriously good teacher. If you get below a B in his class, it's your fault. It's a lot of application. Applying acid/base and fluid metabolism. Some genetics, but you I've learned more about medicine in his class than anything else. Plus he knows how to present the material. Keep up with the material.
As long as you study the material, you should be fine. If you choose not to go to class every day then at least listen to his online lectures and take detailed notes. He does have an easy opportunity to earn extra credit which will boost your grade. Just remember, if you put in the effort, you will get the grade you want!
Dr. Gilchrist is an amazing professor, and really cares about his students. He tries very hard to make his lectures entertaining and interesting, because he knows it's a lot of material. He is very approachable outside of class if you need any extra help. Record the lectures, and relisten to them while you go over your notes, and you'll be fine.
I loved the course and thought the material was interesting, however Gilchrist is one of the worst professors I have had. He is very unorganized and nobody knows what he is talking about during lecture. He runs out of time in lecture and uploads audio lectures of what he didn't cover. He is very forgetful and doesn't know how to use Canvas either
Such a nice man, but a horrible professor. He is VERY unorganized. Quizzes you on material never covered or mentioned, but tests are easy. Very easy to talk to outside of class. He is not very clear on what material you will be tested on or not. I would not take this class with him again.
Biggest disappointment during my time at UAB. Very unorganized. Abruptly changes what is going to be on the test days before. Uploads things last minute. Changing due dates unexpectedly. Rushes at the end to get through everything. Lectures are ALL over the place. Great guy, terrible instructor.
Good professor and funny guy. He knows what he is talking about, but he is very unorganized. He changes things up with little notice, but it is still doable (most college professors do this). Nothing crazy, but you have to work for an A.
Professor Gilchrist is a really nice guy; however, he's just a bad teacher. He was the most unorganized professor I've ever had. The tests weren't terrible but his final for whatever reason was so hard (or so I thought). I ended up doing fine in the class but I was just really frustrated the whole semester. Coming from Lancaster to him is rough.
Physiology is really just a tough class in general. Gilchrist tries to make the material relatable in his lectures and he also makes a lot of jokes to keep class interesting. He's a great guy but he's also disorganized which can be a bit frustrating when due dates are constantly changing.
Spends the whole class period talking about one slide so he has to compensate by posting "online lectures" which are lengthy and confusing. Changes up due dates and material a lot. The tests are hard even though they are online. Quizzes are ok. Kind of passive agressive in emails which is unhelpful.
Dr. Gilchrist is very knowledgeable about the material, but very unorganized. He post the study guides, test and quizzes all at the last minute. So, it makes it difficult to prepare. Attending class is a must to pass! He does offer extra credit but it is a bit time consuming. Also, takes the whole class to cover maybe 4 slides.
If you take a class with Dr. Gilchrist you will regret it. He is terribly disorganized. This semester he crammed two weeks worth of lectures into one week because he waited too late in the semester to post online lectures. That 1 week was finals week! His quizzes and exams are confusing because they contain numerous spelling and grammatical errors.
One of the most stressful teachers I've ever had. During corona he didn't post any material for two weeks after spring break and then loads us with material. He gave us 7 hours of video lectures to learn and do quizzes on during EXAM WEEK. Very unprofessional overall.
Dude's a joke. His slides are incoherent and his lectures are filled with annoying rants that have no relation to the material. Worst professor I've ever had.
Worst teacher Ive ever had. His slides make no sense, takes up all of class time to only go over 4 slides, posts quizzes and tests later than when he says he would, don't even try reaching out to him, hes so passive aggressive and rude. Weekly quizzes that were so difficult they felt like tests. Most unorganized person Ive ever met.
THE WORST TEACHER IVE HAD AT UAB! He is extremely unorganized. Hes so rude its ridiculous. He constantly changes due dates later than they are supposed to be (not in a good way) . He gave us tons of work to do finals week . We had a quiz on material due the same day as our final . definitely would not recommend taking him ! He needs to be fired
Most unorganized professor I have ever had. Doesnt follow a schedule and constantly changes the date that things are due. Honestly just all over the place all of the time. Super passive agressive and unhelpful when students ask questions and impossible to reach outside of class and never responds to emails. Overall unprofessional and unorganized
Worse professor I've ever had at UAB. The power points didn't make any sense to review them. He rambled during his lectures and got off topic. He wouldn't let us review what we missed on quizzes or tests and overall he made this class very challenging and hard. He wasn't helpful during this tough pandemic that we were in.
I do not know how he was when pandemic was not a thing. However, he was very uninvolved and rude to students. As a student who received an A, textbook was useless. He made it hard for us to access quizzes and exams after it was graded. Most importantly, his wordings on exams are bit off from lecture, which makes the exam unnecessarily difficult.
I want to be more fair to him than others. He was rude to his students, unorganized in his teachings, and made the tests really hard. However, I don't know if that is due to the pandemic or not. Taking his class left a bad taste in my mouth but I am chalking it up to COVID. I can see how he could be a good teacher under different circumstances.
Unorganized, moves exam dates without notification, does not post assignments until after they are useful, waits to upload zoom recordings, we are 2 WEEKS behind on material, UAB fails to do anything about him even though he does not care, he is rude, doesn't answer questions mid lecture, graded on very little, quizzes are impossible. worst prof.
Terrible professor. Test is heavy and he's making things harder than it is. His lectures are confusing and nobody understands his lectures. He's making everything complicated.
Don't buy the textbook, everything you need is in the slides. Good luck trying to take this class without forming a group, this is what got me an A. Use the study checklist to your advantage. He is very confusing and makes things harder than it needs to be honestly
I want to give yall hope. He's not the worst. Class is only tests and quizzes but I made a comfortable A. DONT get the textbook. Just focus on his slides, DO THE STUDY CHECKLISTS(!), and pay careful attention to what he says in lecture(!!). There's extra credit. If you want to get into nursing, this class preps you for pathophysiology well -- GL!
This current semester (FA 2021), Gilcrest was not as bad as everybody said he was. He was very organized and stayed on top of his stuff. GO TO CLASS. His test are lecture heavy and if you do not go to class, you will not pass his class. The power points are very vague. Ofc this class isn't a piece of cake, but I enjoyed this class. Its doable!
Currently taking this class and he is not bad, just go to class and take notes and record the lectures
The ratings from the online Spring 2021 semester are NOT indicative of what this class is like. He might have been bad before but my experience has been very positive. Professor Gilchrist is a great guy. Yes, it was hard but he does a great job of explaining the concepts. Do not get the textbook. Go to class, take notes, and you'll do fine
He was amazing this semester. The class is not a piece of pie, but he is not a bad professor. Go to class, his PowerPoints are very vague so if you dont go to class you will not pass. You dont need the book, dont waste money!
I really enjoyed taking his class this semester. Professor Gilchrist is very engaging and passionate about what he teaches. He makes the material challenging but also understandable. He is very helpful and also offers several bonus assignments throughout the semester. Professor Gilchrist was very funny and I loved attending his class!
Dr. Gilchrist is awesome. I did not miss a lecture because I genuinely enjoyed going to them. You have to come to class to understand the powerpoint slides, but he explains them well. He is very kind and offers help whenever you need it. There are also bonus points throughout the semester! He does not deserve the bad wrap he got in semesters past.
Professor Gilchrist is by far my favorite professor at UAB so far. Moving up from Anatomy I was scared to take this class because of difficulty but Gilchrist made it actually interesting. He correlates topics we learn based on real life stuff. He was reachable by email and I didn't go more than 2 days without a response. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. Gilchrist does a great job of teaching physiology. He relates the topics to daily activities. The quizzes and exams are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. He provides an extra credit opportunity sometimes. He really does know his stuff though.
Only quizzes and tests. GET A STUDY GROUP, there are 2 lectures and he switched what he says each time so get people from the other time and compare notes. Recording the lectures is a good idea, he talks very fast.
There are only 3 tests and 3 quizzes the entire year which are extremely confusing and difficult. The tests are based on what he says IN class meaning if you don't go, you don't have the information for the tests and even then all the information is not provided.. He also refuses to post lecture videos online. 10x harder than BY 115. Good luck.
Doesn't go by the textbook AT ALL. You have to annotate HIS provided notes or record lecture, there's no way to write notes in his class. No weekly assignments like homework so it's hard to test your knowledge. Nothing like anatomy. Lab is even worse, more than 1 missed attendance and you automatically fail regardless. Chile....
Dr. Gilchrist's class is VERY difficult, but, it's doable. You need to go to lecture to understand the power points and do well in the course. He is actually very chill and funny. We only had 6 assignments but 3 bonuses that pull up your grade by a ton if you do well on them. Overall, I was very fortunate to have Dr. Gilchrist teach me!
Dr. Gilchrist is really nice guy, but not the best teacher. He can be hard to understand a lot of the time and his PowerPoints are completely unhelpful if you do not go to class for notes. The tests are unproctored but are still challenging. Thankfully, he gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. Great guy but would not take again.
Gilchrist's lectures are impossible to follow and his slides perhaps even more so. If you don't attend the lecture, don't expect to pass, but also, good luck understanding his point! He is also frequently wrong in his science, which is worrisome given this is a class often taken by nursing students.
It is a hard class however the material is there and studying is just an extreme need to pass. Dr. Gilchrist is HILARIOUS and make his lectures interesting. The PowerPoints by themselves do not make sense unless you go to class, but overall he really cares about his students.
He was a funny professor and he made coming to class quite interesting sometimes, but the class was hard honestly. In order to get an A, you NEED to go to class and take good notes, because the slides alone don't help. Gives out a bonus project & an extra quiz that was fairly easy for 10 points each which can really help out your grade.
Worst professor ever. Not understandable. You miss one thing you automatically fail. If you take him good luck he is very disrespectful/rude as well. His PowerPoint have good information but when u take the test it cover absolutely nothing he talked about good luck.
Gilchrist was an amazing professor, you can tell that he is passionate about physiology. There were 3 quizzes (35pts each), 3 exams (100pts each), and two bonus opportunities (a bonus quiz and project, worth 10pts each). Make sure you attend and record lectures, otherwise you won't get a decent grade!
Gilchrist definitely knows his stuff. There was only 6 assignments and 2 bonus assignments. 3 quizzes (35pts each), 3 exams (100pts each), and 2 bonus opportunities (10pts each). Make sure you attend and record lectures, otherwise you won't perform well. The textbook isn't required, but it helped solidify ideas brought up in lecture.
Gilchrist's lectures can be tricky, but the content is solid. Attend class, take notes, and use resources like Unstuck AI to prepare - it really pays off. Not too bad if you put in the work.
