Lots of work, lots of reward. Inspirational and enthusiastic. Changes lives.
This guy rocks!!
Best teacher I have ever had.
He is the man ... Hands down ... Know your study guides though
He loves handouts, spare us please!
He is the man! Probably the best teacher, mentor, role model on campus!
Switched from business, this stuff is cake
i can't remember the course name, but thats the only thing he didn't teach!
one of Grove City's finest; role model as a father, teacher, man; 3Cs; passion
What a guy! Mackey's THE MAN. We're so lucky to have him at GCC :-)
oxford trip highlight of college, he's intelligent, funny, and great role model
he teaches content, compassion, character, and he's proof of changing lives
I miss his irreverent style
Poor teacher. Thinks he's cool . A bad experience overall.
Mac Daddy is awesome.Never had a prof care so much.Very funny, knows his students
he's a great prof. very inspiring

Where are my 500 pennies?
Good teacher, but he needs to be better organized

All and all I liked him. He has an incredibly short fuse though when it comes to criticism. I have never seen a teacher that refuses to admit that he is wrong and doesn't know everything. He should try to apply what he is teaching to his own life.

very inspiring, great teacher, challenging class, but if you do the work, its all good...sweat equity, baby!

you either love or hate the guy. not sure where i am. take hime to find out, probably at least worth that.
the very best when will the one person who had a problem stop rating him so undeservably low
Dr. Mackey rocks, and I can't understand the average quality rating...he bends over backwards to make sure that we learn! He is one of the best profs I've had, and I think that he is also one of the best at GCC who exemplifies Christian values.

A bit full of himself, but he is allowed to be! He is enthusiastic, funny, and caring -- thank you!

Big Mac Daddy rules, others drool. He's the coolest at this school.
passable
funny
The MAck is the man...He rocks the planet, the Grove, and you'll love him. He pushes you to be your best, his kids are really cute and cool too!
An amazing professor--really cares about his students and wants them to achieve God's potential for their lives. He's extremely helpful, and the class definitely keeps your attention.
Although he tends to run over his time, he is still one of my favorite professors. Talk about him all the time (in a good way)to my non-ed major friends. Probably one of if not the best professor here.
dr. mackey is a very caring man who loves kids and cares about his college students. unfortunately he teaches a very worthless class that is not only one semester but 2.
I agree with the last rater (and good luck trying to find him during his office hours!)
Very intelligent, very good teacher of very helpful content--focuses on what we become and has us do assignments that educate us! he is always available
Expect to do a lot of required outside class work!
Absolutely great! That is, he's great if you love to be condescended upon and treated like a third grade camper! And who doesn't love pointless assignments for a worthless class which consumes hours of valuable out-of-class time? He called us "
Great professor, person, teacher and role model. He loves people, God, and teaching!
he is a great teacher!!!
How can you not love Mackey? Yes, some assignments may seem pointless, and you have to work your butt off, especially memorizing for tests. But - it's all worth it having such a great guy who prepares us all to be excellent teachers! TAKE HIM!
Mackey is refreshingly idealistic and makes you feel like you really can make some sort of a difference. Pointless class, but all ed majors have to take it and he makes it a lot of fun
Mucho important content in class, dicusses the foundation in us as future teachers if we are to make a difference. Jesus the Teacher is pointless? I think it is excellent
mackey rocks! i decided after taking his class that i didn't want to teach, but i still learned so much in there. he is also the most appoachable and helpful professor i know. he's just one of those people where you can't help but smile when you see them.
A very rewarding and inspiring class. It definately made me want to pursue a career in teaching.
Good prof... assigns a lot of homework. If you're better at memorization, take mackey... if you're more of a conceptual person, take edwards
Dr. Mackey rocks! He approaches the material from such a creative viewpoint, putting everything in such a great perspective. His assignments, which may seem pointless at the time, really made me focus on my faith and its meaning to my career. I am SO glad I had him! He is such an inspiration!
Signing up for this class was the worst decision of my college career. Honestly, I seriously considered sliting my wrists with my pencil every class. With every class I attended, I fel my IQ drop 10 points. If you're an el ed major, you might enjoy it-you'll be teaching people just like him.

He can give a lot of work but it is very well defined and worth it. You learn a lot of information. He is extremely nice and a great speaker.
Awesome!
Liked his class a lot until the day he mentioned in class that gay people will go to hell (I'm straight, and I was shocked that this was said.). This is absolutely no joke. I didn't have a lot of respect for him after that, nor did I enjoy the class very much.

he is a fantastic example of everything a teacher and leader should be--he never said anything like that one post--he believes we are all sinners but greatly loved by God!
The london trip was tremendous; the man is an amazing teacher, well-known and respected in England and a great leader for us to follow---how does he do all this great stuff!
I agree, he is fantastic with the big and little things--he is knowledgeable and a great role model...GCC is so fortunate to have him...I'm so glad I went on the trip of a lifetime that he created!
As told to me by others before I took it and I agree nopw that I had him...he is outrageous! He cares, knows his stuff, makes you want to teach to change lives. What a great role model to us and other professors.
This man is great--such enthusiasm and knowledge. HE plans the whole trip, he is such the funmeister that people from other classes wanted to join ours. Everywhere we went people greeted him and us with such respect and friendliness---all because of him. Everyone should take this class!
He knows so much, cares so much and is such a geat example...GCC is very fortuante to have him...Take any class he teaches, foundations AND I heard the London/Oxford trip ROCKS the PLANET!
Dr. Mackey is the very best--we are so lucky to have him...Content; Compassion; Character---he is the man; a great example for us all; he really cares.
MACK DAWG IS BOMB! He is the man; he know a bunch; is a great teacher and person and is crazy funny. He knows how to relate to all of us!
ehh he's unclear
I loved going to class. He's very passionate. Tests aren't so easy. Lots of memorization and tricky multiple choice. Besides the tests it was an excellent class!!
He's not that good. Boring Groverites like him because he's "exciting" and randomly talks about Jesus. He also gives sob stories about his past. Yaks alot about his trillion kids. Zzzzz...who cares. Overall, avoid this guy.
Interesting lecturer, but somewhat disorganized and tends to make excuses for not returning assignments, etc. Consider taking Edwards.
This man's energy is amazing. He is a true teacher, and it shows. He takes an interest in his students, shares stories with the class, and makes things fun. I also wonder if he still wears that yellow sweater. If you're just at GCC to get your A and be done, take someone else. If you're here to truly learn and experience learning - take Mackey.
He's seriously the best professor. He makes class so exciting and fun. Also he's extremely helpful if you need it. He takes the time to get to know each of his students and makes you feel important in class and out. I DEFINITELY recommend him!
He is the best professor that I have had here. I always enjoyed going to class. Yes, there was a lot of work and at times he could be a little opinionated, but he is good at what he does. I learned a lot from the class too.
Dr. Mackey MAKES GCC and the educ department! Mackey is the man---he has plenty of content, is very compassionate, and exudes character in all he does. He is fantastic and should be taken by all! He has high expectations for all of us to be life-changers. Take is Oxford course when you can! He is great!
Mackey has it all---especially if you are looking for someone to Be evrything we should be as teachers. He loves God, students, teaching, and it really makes a difference. He believes in us and what God can do through us! I can't wait for him to offer the Oxford trip again.
He was unclear a lot, and I thought he was too sterotypical of me (and everyone else in the class) which made me mad. His first test is killer, but after that, it gets easier. He allows you a lot of extra things (other than tests) to boost your grade.
He is so interesting and makes class a lot of fun. The tests are hard, and you need to know tons of information. He's unclear about assignments, which is annoying. Overall though, it's an enjoyable class and you learn a lot.
Do not take this man for Found Ed or you will regret it. He babbles and preaches for the entire class period THEN finally gets to the point and gives notes that you need after class time has ended! He is so full of himself that it's hard to bear. Tests are impossible and the material is worthless. Gives WAY too much out-of-class work. Total BS!>:-(
Dr. Mackey was my favorite GCC professor. His foundations classes gave me a passion for teaching. He is interesting, funny, organized, tests are hard but he gives clear study guides and tests on exactly what it says, loves his students, really helpful. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!
The Mack Attack is awesome and I love the 8:00 show!
Very preachy. Nice guy but not organized at all. Talks all class period and eventually gets to the point at the end. "It's kinda crazy." You won't retain a lot of information past the tests but the class is easy overall.
Great guy and very inspiring. Not terribly organized or clear (as much as he seems to try, I always had to ask classmates about the assignments.) He's kind of dogmatic and can take the Christian thing a little far. I'm glad I took Edwards then Mackey; I learned a lot more first semester, but Mackey made me feel more like I could make a difference.
Wonderful man, very good class. He truly shows a passion for teaching, and that rubs off on those who really want to be impactful teachers. Tests are by no stretch of the imagination easy, only with double-digit hours of studying will one get a decent grade. But overall, Mackey is the man.
This guy is a great prof the first semester in EDUC 201. However, he sits on the opposite end of the spectrum for the second semester in EDUC 202. I feel no incentive to go to class. He rants and raves about everything but the notes. Somehow he has gotten it into his head he is teaching us stuff that way but I dont believe he has.
Dr. Mackey is the best professor I have had at college. He makes learning fun and provides hands-on examples as to how we should teach in public schools. He also requires out of class voluntary work, which can be hard but is tons of fun and well worth it!!!
Best prof I've had yet at grove city! Cares about all his students and takes an interet in knowing them. Very fun and makes learning enjoyable. Looking for a Foundations class i suggest taking it with Mackey!
Dr. Mackey is the man! He always makes class fun. I had him for 201 and 202 and he is one of my advisors. He has a passion for teaching and loves working with inner city kids. I thought the work for his class was pretty easy and he did a good job of getting us involved with presentations, etc.
We got into an argument after I wrote him a less than stellar review for class. After meeting two separate times I thought we had worked things out. Prior to this argument we had been really close so I asked him for a recommendation. After a phone interview with a future employer, they told me that they never received it. Hold a grudge much?
Mackey is FANTASTIC! He cares so much about his class and his family. Helped me so much when I came back after being sick. Tests are hard but completely fair. He gives study guides so if you do the work, then you'll get a great grade. Made me feel like I could change the world of education and make a difference in kids lives. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Some of what you have to do in this class is helpful but MacKey himself is highly elusive and blames you for not seeking out other students in the class if you could not find and question him. His project instructions are incredibly non-specific and this is yet another Ed. class where you're told to teach differently than you're being taught.
an energetic, caring, godly, passionate man. get to know him personally, u'll never regret it. he's unorganized and at times unclear about assignments. BUT light workload for the most part. a must-take for ed majors. he equips your heart and mind. sometimes his class consists of too much jokes. but he makes u look forward to coming to his class
Awesome! Incredible awesome to listen to. I had class at the end of the day from 230-345 and i looked forward to going every class
Great guy! I'm not an ED major but wanted to take him just because i had heard good things about him. You only get the grade you deserve in there based on your effort.
Anyone who has a problem with this guy is a nut or not an educator. Yes he talks a lot but that's his job dude
