One word, a "Nightmare"
he is the worst Science teacher. He does not understand that we "students" are not Science graduates. He does not explain things in terms you can understand, and he us not patient. He is very rude.
Very hard to understand, even if you study hard you probably won't get a good grade because his hard tests make it nearly impossible. Doesn't show up for his posted office hours, or stay in his lab while he's supposed to. Very unhelpful.
Very difficult, sarcastic, and conceited teacher. When it comes to lab and office hours, he is not as available as he claims to be. Not a helpful teacher at all.
He's tough, but the students are crybabies. Would you want someone working on you at the ER who didn't understand basic biology? He gives you a chance to reviiew exams ahead of time also. So these students need to quite complaining.

This teacher did not teach. I am a successful ER nurse no thanks to him. I got an A out of the class, not by brown-nosing like other students. I just realize when you have a teacher who teaches about nothing, teach yourself and be successful. I did it.
only thing i can say is read the material and learn it yourself and hope you can understand his questions which at times seem to be confusing.
I dont mind him that much but the tests are pretty hard.
Both courses are tough. Don't miss lectures, Don't miss lab, DO the reading assignments + STUDY = A It is that simple. He is not going to give you an A... you have to earn it.
my time in his class just plain sucked.
He does not teach with helping you to understand. HE does not explain with any clarity.
He does have difficult tests with essays, but I have learned if you know the objectives at the beginning of each section you WILL get an A. The final is word for word over the old tests, and he lets you come in on office hours to write the answers to all of these. The final is an automatic A+.
Very Hard! And he's hard to understand-tests are very hard too. He goes way too fast with lecture material; I recommend another teacher...definitly!
He was very good with respect to repeating facts so they could be remembered. I found him to be very helpful and I rather enjoyed his sense of humor. Tests were very tough. I would recommend him to anyone that really wants to learn.
Doesn't follow class outline handed out before lecture...makes it hard. Jumps around a lot so TAKE T-notes!!! They are easier to jump around on. GOOD LUCK!
He definitly knows his material. However, lectures to fast, starts late, goes over class time, difficult tests, self-righteous and let's you know you are the STUDENT. You should be a Dr. before taking his class, even the Dr.'s I work with felt the material was a little strenuous for 146.

He may be hard but I am learning a lot so it's worth it to me...you just gotta study a lot and PAY ATTENTION..it helps if you sit close to the front..he likes that!
He isn't the monster everyone makes him out to be. His exams are simple and straightforward. I found that everyone who says his class is impossible also don't attempt to apply themselves in any way. If you go to lecture, take decent notes, you'll do just fine in his class.
He is a good lecturer. However his tests are twice as hard as the other teachers which is unfair. He has short answer and essay as opposed to the normal multiple choice. Half my class has dropped. He also doesn't emphasize what is important to know for tests. He is somewhat entertaining however.
He is very knowledgeable about his subject matter, but is barely civil with his students.
Mr.Malcolm is a much better teacher than people give him credit for.I *earned* an A in his class.The material is so difficult that people blame Mr.Malcolm for their failures when they won't devote the time or energy to master the material as they should.It is a hard class, and no instructor can change that.Do the work, and you'll do fine.

I switched to a different lab after only 2 classes with this guy. He moves too quickly and really doesn't offer much opportunity to ask questions. He's not overly friendly either. Plus, on my first quiz, he marked 2 answers wrong that were right! More than anything, I think it's just nicer to have your lecture & lab taught by the same professor; I didn't have mine arranged that way in the beginning and am glad I switched to Dr. Haner.
Studied 35 hours a week for his class, and scraped by with a C. If you take this class all your others will suffer. BE AWARE, BE VERY AWARE
HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER! HE OFFERS NO HELP AT ALL! HE IS THE TYPE OF TEACHER THAT IS JUST IN THERE FOR A PAYCHECK!
The man is a good teacher. I think those who bad mouth him are those who are looking for him to hold their hand through the course and spoonfeed them everything. God forbid anyone do work outside of class, eh? Go to lecture, PAY ATTENTION, READ THE BOOK and there is no reason to not end up with an A.
Very tough teacher. Doesn't really give any student any slack at all. I had to show up 15 min late one day because of an important work meeting (which i had warned him about ahead of time) and he wouldn't let me in to take my test. Smart guy, and nice outside of class, but not a good teacher.
run run run as fast as you can away from this terrible teacher. He talks like he is a scientist the only problem is you cant understand a word he is saying. He will answer all questions you ask but you cant understand the answer...... and dont plan on having a life if youre in his class....all your time is spent studying!!!!!!
Very organized. Very intelligent. Has high standards for students. Pay attention to what he repeats. Study his notes (take in t-note fashion helps). Read the chapters. Very nice teacher. I would take his classes again!
Horrible, horrible, horrible! You do not have any time for any other classes when taking Bio 145 with Malcolm. Getting a C is like getting an A. Half of the students have already dropped. He is known for being a horrible teacher that doesn't care for his students! Do whatever you can to not take 145 with Malcolm!!!!!
NO NO NO whatever you do don't take this teacher for BIO. Oh my goodness you will probabaly be suicidial when you are done, if you make it. He is hard, he don't care and he needs to retire. HARD HARD HARD!
Tons of people told me not to take malcolm, hes hard. However, since i knew he was going to be hard i studied like crazy and got a high A on his test. all biology is hard. he is a very intelligent teacher and if you ask a question in class he will clarify well. he throws out one test grade also. hard..but not impossible.
Malcom was very unhelpful when I asked him questions. He talked down to me and most everyone who askd questions. In lab he was even more unhelpful by telling us everything in the begining of class and then taking off while we did our actual lab. Most people took off when he left. When midterm grades were passed out and people started leaving.

I decided to wait til I took 146martin to comment on malcolm. Yes hes a horrible teacher. The subject is hard no matter who you have but there is no excuse for his behavior. If a student needs help, it's HIS JOB to help them. he's too lazy. One time he told me that he just "didnt know" when I asked 4 help in lab. That's intelligent. He gets an F-
He is a tough instructor. But it is also a very difficult subject. I had no problems with getting help or clarification... he tells you what to study and then tests you on it. It is that simple. I ended up with B's in both classes- but I had to work for it!
not good!!!!! he acted like we were supposed to already know wat was going on! he got mad at my class for not answering questions when we didnt even know wat was going on. i ended up dropping him by time i had dropped half the class had dropped if that says anything!
Mr. Malcom sucks! He doens't clarify if you have a question. He expects you to already know the material. In lab he explains what to do and than disappears. Leaving those with questions just sitting there and having to stay late. I dropped this class because I was doing poorly. Started with 35 students, and left with about 15
This class was terrible!!! He taught it like it was a 300 level class and we should all have already known everything. Read straight off of his notes for teaching. His tests were too long to even finish. I started off with an A on the first test and thought I would be ok. It all went down hill from there. He does not care about his students at all!
I don't understand why so many people bad mouth malcom. He is a great teacher that actually expects you to do work. Take notes study and he can be a very plesent person. He likes to joke alot which helps me stay awake and interested. Good Teacher!

Mr. Malcolm was a very hard instructor. At first I figured I would give him the benefit of the doubt. Especially after reading about him on here. I went through about 8 weeks or so but unfortunately the ratings were correct. I felt he thrived on failure and I wasn't going to lose my GPA he is suppose to help us not scare the heck out of us.

He is not that bad of an instructor. I am glad he his considered to be hard. Most of the people taking his course are going on in the medical field, who wants someone that does not know what they are doing working on them? Plan on studying about 15 hrs. a week and do not fall behind. Because of getting a high A in his class I now tutor A&P.
Malcolm is one of the best teachers I've had since starting college. So long as you go every day and take good notes, you never need your book. While he doesn't tolerate those who refuse to put forth an effort in his class, he'll always answer questions if you don't understand the material. Be advised: his class isnt easy. Nor should it be.
HORRIBLE I only had Malcolm for lab and that was enough to rate him as useless. He thinks he is superior to everyone. He counts you off on tests for being too specific, so you better give him the exact answer he wants. He doesn't help at all and makes things more confusing than they should be. I understand life isn't easy, but Malcolm is absurd
Well 2nd time around and still as hard as the 1st, but this time it was just lab. Something I have learned over the past 2 years each teacher has their own style of teaching and each student has a different way of learning and comprehending. What it amounts too is to find a teacher who teaches in a way that works for you. Mr. Malcolm's not 4 me.
I loved him!! He is definitely the best teacher I had at ICC. I recommend coming to class and doing the assigned reading and you will be just fine. Also, he may seem a little intimidating at first but he is more than happy to help you with any questions you may have. All you have to do is ask!! Expect to learn lots with him, he's great!!
Took as a minimester. So rediculously hard..but what would you expect? Good teacher, but tests are hard. Fill in the blanks are rediculous. I struggled hard to get a B and I got it. Put forth the effort in the simester class and you'll be alright, try really hard though.

HORRIBLE! He is the worst teacher ever. My 145 class was like a 300's class. He is extremly unapproachable and doesn't seem to care if you have a problem. Don't ask questions in his class because he will make you feel like an idiot! He has many errors in his notes and test are extremly hard. When I had him, 11 people dropped it, including myself
I had Malcom for 145 over the summer 2008 semester & then tried to take him again for 146 in the fall, but dropped. Like many others said he's VERY unapproachable & when you ask him a question it seems he tries to show how smart he is by using huge words instead of clarifying it. Personally i thought he was HORRIBLE & extremely hard.Not reccomended
Make sure you write his notes really fast. He wouldn't put the notes that we missed back up on the overhead. I didn't think his tests were too hard, but I did think that he is really hard to follow in class.
He's not as bad as e1 says. If you're lazy, you'll probably fail. If you attend lecture every day and take good notes, you'll do fine. I got an A without opening the book. All you need are his lecture notes. The book's website is helpful also. The final is easy because he gives you all the answers in advance...if you bother to go to office hours!

He straight lectures, doesn't give any constructive handouts or powerpoints to help you along, tests you on things that are not in the book and expects you to speed write EVERYTHING he lectures about in class. Basically get ready to teach yourself the material at home, b/c you're too busy writing in class to comprehend anything he's saying.
Not for the lazy. Bio 145 is a hard class and Malcom expects you to read, study, and learn the material. If you do that you will do ok. He is by the book. If you want a blow off professor, dont take Malcolm. If you arent afraid of a challenge, take him. His lectures are amazing and he knows his material. Great analogies. I learned a lot!

He is a hard teacher but this material is not easy...Need to attend class...He is generally a nice person will help you if asked and his final exam is from all other tests lets you copy questions and answer
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. His tests were ridicilously hard. He would often keep lecturing, even after the bell rang. Once again, like others mentioned, he does not come down to a "student level". He does not simplify topics to make us understand it, instead he makes it more frustrating by using large words.
RUN! I started with Haner who is OUTSTANDING but left mid-semester for paternity leave. The college then stuck us with Malcolm. My exam scores with Haner were 101 and 98. After Malcom took over I struggled to get C's. He is rude and acts like teaching is beneath him & a waste of his time. I honestly don't know how he has any pos. ratings on here!
This class is difficult regardless of the professor.Malcolm was a nightmare,he uses a completely different text than what students use.He will not answer a question directly and his tests are impossible.I worked my tail off to get a c!!!If possible run forest run!
I took this as a mini-mester and sweated blood. He lectures faster than you can write. He is very helpful, but his tests are some of the most difficult I have taken. His knows the material and sets very high standards. Not for the faint of heart.
He thinks that since he has taught for so long he can do what he wants. He also does not care about his students or their grades.

The worst teacher by far I have ever had...I already have my Bachelors and am coming back to school. I have never in my life worked so hard in a class and done so poorly because of a teacher.
Content of this course is very hard so keep that in mind when taking his course. He lectures extremely fast and you'll most likely have to swap notes to find out what you missed. His tests are the most difficult I have ever taken.
I am an A student & hard-working. Class SO not worth it. Impossible to keep up with lecture. Hand-outs-inaccurate-spend hours finding information with wrongly cited pages. Tests-ridiculously difficult/diagrams unclear. He walks out of lab. Frustrating. SPENT MANY HOURS studying-some test answers still a mystery.
Watch for grading errors. I went to see what I had missed on one exam and found that he had left 10 points off my score. This also happened to at least one other person in the class. You also may want to invest in the book that corresponds with his lectures (by Martini). Most of the diagrams are from this book, not the required text.
I think these comments are CRAZY! Malcolm is an amazing teacher. If you want to "just get by" then take someone else. If you are really wanting to LEARN the material, take him. He knows the material fron and back and it always willing to help. And just to note, we are all adults, he leaves lab because it is up to US to do it.
Mr. Malcolm is BAD. He is a drama queen who slams his students. I wouldn't take him because his tests are not based on the book or the lectures, and the tests are twice as hard as any other biology teacher at ICC. Take this class if you want to work really really hard to get a bad grade. Take Dr. Haner, he is much better. I am an A student.
Roger Malcolm is entertaining. His lectures are fun. He is rude, but who cares. Grow up. The only reason NOT to take this teacher is that your grade will be 10 pts lower than if you took any other teacher of this class, so it doesn't make sense to take him.
i had heard he was a good teacher last semester so i figured i would give him a try. now i haven't had him for lecture so i can't say how he is lecture wise but lab wise...terrible. he has left for most of the duration of the class period at times and doesn't answer questions you ask--guesses at what you are asking rather then listen to you.
VERY VERY RUDE!!! Teaches like he is too good for this college. Teaches like you should already know the material. Lecture notes very difficult to follow. Teaches from an old book, so don't bother with the newer one! NEVER stays in lab, so if you have questions, ask them before he walks out or you're out of luck.
OMG!!!! What a joke. He lectures so fast that all you can do is write and understand later. Doesnt answer any of your questions. I will never ever take him again. I had to drop his class because he was not helping me understand the material at all. He talks down to you once you ask a question as if you should already know the answer.

People who say they got an A & he is a good teacher are wrong. I have a Masters degree, and I am an A student. I expect much MORE from a teacher. Wait til you take some excellent profs & you will laugh at your response.
i had him for lab, this man is a terrible teacher. absolutely terrible. he's a nice man, but shows no interest in whether the students learn the material or not. as if anatomy isn't hard enough! i now have to take the class over again, but it will not be at icc! stay away if at all possible!
