I got an F on every single test during the semester and still ended up getting like 112% in the class. He gives so much extra credit that it is close to impossible to not get atleast a B+ or higher...DON"T take his night class!!

One of the worst classes I have ever taken. He mispronouced words all the time, and treated everyone like a high school student. The class was POINTLESS, but he does give a lot of extra credit so I got OVER 100%

He seems to think he is God and Emens theatre is Church. .the whole hat thing just pisses me off

Has a temper, very unclear on instructions, but overall easy to make up points if willing to pay for grade through concerts.

Granted he does give a lot of EC, but he picks his favorites and it shows. There was some benefit to the class....it allowed me to catch up on some needed sleep. I can't stress enough how boring this class is!!!!!

This class is VERY easy. You can fail all the tests and still come away with an A because of all the extra credit. However, this guy is the biggest jerk and most incoherent professor I've had. Even though he's easy, I would reccommend staying away because of his poor attitude toward everything.

Very unclear. He expects you to know what he wants without telling you about it, or even telling you where to find out. He is rude, and overall I felt like I was being treated like a middle school student. Avoid him if possible.

He doesn't teach anything, but rather goes through the book with you and forces you to go to ridiculous concerts. DO NOT take the night class if you have to have him. Not only do concerts count as grades, but as attendance a majority of the time too. I am struggling to succeed in my courses pertaining to my major because of this professor.

This professor sucks! Do NOT take him, drop the class or find a different prof. Had a horrible times in class and he is a horrible teacher.

the worst class i took freshman year. He's a bad teacher with corny humor and an attitude problem. Good thing; total point class (1000pts) To pass, you pay around $75, do an essay (which he doesn't explain) and pass 2 out of his 4 tests.. If your on a tight budget, don't pick him. The concerts are fun but they all range from $5-$15/concert.

He is a good person to talk to one-on-one but outside of that he's pretty ridiculous. He talks to the class like we're all music majors. He moves way too fast and seems like he look to yell at you whether it be for a hat, not having your book out, or accidentally slamming his door (which is already broken -_-) avoid him if possible. Trust me

ok he is a horrible teacher, he kicked 2 kids out of class for wearing hats also kicked an asin kid out for not understanding his english, which he only talks like everything is all about music, i was in orchestra for over 9 years and this class is horrible i now hate that kind of music, dont take his class, save yourself the time, money,and anger

Absolutely awful & a waste of time. Nothing gone over in class is on the exams. How to do well in the class is completely unclear. Although I came out with a decent grade, I had to scramble for extra assignments at the end of the semester. Avoid this professor if possible. It will save you many headaches.

Class subject isn't bad. ROGER IS AWFUL AT EXPLAINING THINGS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you choose a different professor.

Extremely easy class, but you will hate it. He's an awful professor; stubborn, rude, egotistical, old, slow - everything you would hate in a professor. But the class is cake and very simple.

He is incredibly unhelpful, and is very condescending when asked questions outside of class. I failed to see the purpose of this as a mandatory class. Getting a good grade is easy, even if he never explains the material.

Before taking this class i enjoyed music. But this class is the biggest waste of time ever(and that includes watching Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer) If you try to ask questions his answers will always be sarcastic which leaves you going through the whole class confused and not knowing what the hell is going on. never take this class with him

Roger Mcconnell is the worst teacher ever. DO NOT take this class. He talks to you like you are a music major and when you ask questions, he either answers in a question or completely humiliates you in front of the class. He is awful awful awful.

MUHI 100 is meant to be an easy core class. Somebody recommended McConnell to me as a sick joke. He is arrogant but provided open book test. Taking this course with another professor would be a better option. You really need to go out of your way to earn an A, it should not have been that difficult.

He is absolutely without a doubt the worst professor I have EVER had, and a very poor representation of BSU. It is finals week and he still hasn't entered of my assignments despite countless emails. He's arrogant, and rude, and a terrible educator. Taking this class is a complete waste of my time and money. DO NOT TAKE A COURSE WITH HIM!

He's horrible. I introduced myself on the first day, and that was the biggest mistake I made. He kept trying to be friendly, but wasn't. He's condescending, doesn't help anyone, and terrible when it comes to assignments, since apparently Word is still a brand new invention to him. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM.

I fricken hated this teacher. He was rude, and inconsistent, and was not clear AT ALL on how he wanted assignments completed and when he wanted them completed. HE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Unbelievably disorganized and NEVER graded things in a timely manner. 0/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

This class if awful. Roger does not now what in the world he is doing. The TA in the class couldn't even figure it out. He never answers questions he just makes rude remarks. AVOID THIS CLASS

I absolutely hated this class. Roger is rude and is the most confusing teacher I've had at BSU. I would recommend NEVER taking this class if he is your prof. He was rude to students and never replied to my emails.

McConnell is patronizing and sarcastic. The class work was easy, but to get full points you basically have to pay for your grade. You have to attend concerts to get points in his class, and some of them were outrageously expensive. He isn't helpful, is very unclear about assignments, and doesn't grade work until the last week of class.

One of the worst professors around, have to go above and beyond to at least figure out what is going on in the class. Class may be fairly easy if taught by an apt professor, but he is truly unfit. Very narcissistic and confusing, I highly recommend changing professors.

Roger McConnell is beyond rude, inappropriate, and and unfit professor. He will make jokes at a student's suspense, and often the jokes are inappropriate. He is extremely unclear in his directions, and it takes weeks to catch on. His class is an easy A, once you actually catch on. I would not recommend him at all, not even to my enemy.

If you are in this class you will either find yourself struggling to figure out what is due and when, or bored to death because his rambling lectures (interrupted by his own past musical experiences) which don't even cover HALF of what is on the exams. The point and concert system makes you have to buy your grade. Who let this guy become a teacher

Tests are pretty hard. If there are review sessions, go to them. Review sessions will help you actually know what's going on. He is a very bad professor and very VERY rude. He loves to call people out for the dumbest things. He loves to talk about himself and you aren't allowed to talk when he is. If you have other options, take those.

Roger has to be one of the worst professors on Campus, I cannot believe I ended up in his class because it was truly awful. Tests are open book but incredibly hard, highs usually end up in 80% range but the class is based off total points. Have to go above and beyond to get an A, go to many concerts (often have to pay) and horrible assignments.

Awful professor, do not take his class. You have to pay for your grade, and he is not helpful in the least.

He's very unclear, but that's what the SI sessions are for (they were during one of my classes, unfortunately). He makes a lot of awkward jokes and mocks students pretty often. Gives a lot of points and opportunities, but you have to take them. All the tests were open book (except for the final), so you should get the book.

Worst prof I've ever had. Ever. He embarrasses people almost every class and makes really awkward and sometimes sevist jokes. Doesn't explain ANY of the assignments. Not to mention, he's very boring and all over the place during lecture.

Don't do it.

Passive-aggresive, easily irritable, and rude. Roger will go from smiling to, with no warning, embarrassing students and threatening to throw them out. Most cases it's someone leaning over to ask for a piece of paper or something harmless.

Don't take this class with him. Don't do it. He will grade you on criteria never mentioned and tell you about assignments days before they're due. This Professor needs to retire.

Roger does the point system where each assignment is worth a certain amount of points and to get an A you have to get between 900-1000 points. He's a creep old man and boring. If you miss 3 DAYS he will take off 50 points. Pretty ridiculous.

He requires you to go to concerts in order to pass

The class is fine but it is all lectures and readings with no group work. Theres also not a lot of room to ask questions

He did not teach throughout the class. He sat in front of the class and listened to music expecting us to take notes. He did not grade any assignments until the end when I found out I was going to fail. He does NOT teach. I am surprised he has not been fired yet. He is not nice, he is not understanding, expect to lower your GPA.

He is a great guy, he is just not fit for teaching anymore. Yes it may seem easy to go to all of the concerts outside of class, but some of us have to work evenings to even pay for college and have sporting events and extracurricular activities.

Very difficult to understand his lectures and seems to be very unorganized. Also he contradicts himself often on what he expects for assignments and class expectations.

He is absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. He should have retired or been fired long ago. Nothing he says makes any sense and he does not listen to students whatsoever. He never knows anything about grades because his GA grades for him. I have not learned one thing in this class. His lectures include him sitting at his computer.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is extremely disrespectful and should no longer be teaching. He is not clear in his instructions or grading and to pass the class you have to attend several concerts and performances outside of class and write lengthy essays over them. I regret taking this class with him and I encourage everyone to NOT take it.

The classes are awful to sit through. Very vague instructions and half of your points come from making time to go to concerts outside of class. The tests are in class on a computer which is a waste of everyone's time. If you actually want to learn anything attend SI sessions. Basically a second course to explain what hes talking about twice a week

This class was fairly easy, however professor McConnell was very disrespectful. He didn't answer many questions and when he did, he made us feel dumb. Your grade depends on if you attend events or not, which is hard to balance with other classes and life plans. You will not pass by doing the work and showing up. Tests and quizzes are fairly easy.

The class itself was not at all bad but McConnell didn't teach anything or give any resources for us to teach ourselves. There was barely any direction, and I had to reach out multiple times to other classmates to figure out what we were actually supposed to do. This whole class was just a guessing game.

This professor was teaching am asynchronous class and had no option to watch lecture except during specific time slots. The professor never responded to direct email questions and the syllabus is full of contradictions and mistakes and very difficult to understand. He assigned zero deadlines or due dates and I never knew how I was doing grade wise.

No, just no. Didn't learn a single thing. It was super easy but he was obviously incompetent. Only went to class because he took participation. Listened to LGs the whole time and then he rambled on. I played 2048 in class the whole time just to try and deal with his boring voice.
