He is sooo BORING, and his tests are super hard!!
BORING!!!! USELESS INFORMATION GIVEN IN CLASS
interesting comb over
very boring class. he has a very dry humor nice guy though.
Difficult if you don't plan on attending. Fun labs though
Extremely boring and the tests suck. Information never covered in class is on the tests and the labs also suck. Insomniacs beware.
He is the most boring professor you will ever have, have the coffee IV ready!
the only way to pass this class is to study biology every waking moment. obviously thats impossible esp for us pre-pharm students.. thanx alot i probably wont get into pharm school becuz of ur class. maybe u should try staying on the subject more often.
Great professor. He really is too good for Ferris. Should be teaching at UofM at the least. Superior intelligence and a real nice guy.
His class is very dry and boring. I would highly advise that you have a little BIO history before going into class. Doesn't teach towards test by any means.
I got an A b/c I read the book and studied the old tests. I know Bio is boring, but this is the extreme! He creates a great sleeping environment! Nice guy. Easy labs.
Great professor. You'll lear lots. Great looking too. Wink.
I never went to lecture, read all the chapters two days before, and got an A- in the class. If you need help go to his office hours and he will tell you exactly what you need to know for the test. If you can't pass this class you shouldn't be in pre-pharm

absolutely horrible professor. he has far superior knowledge to be a teacher. know your stuff, is all i can say. his tests are so random, and his lectures are a waste of time. he throws out way too much extra information. read the book. labs are easy.
hands out typed notes, then adds lecture comments between the lines. primarily tests off his NOTES-some book. he’s very mind-numbing w/ a monotone affect-hard to stay awake-don’t take 8AM section-MUST study for tests
He is a very boring teacher. He doensnt seem that exciting to teach it. Infomration in the class seem so much confusing that it makes the tests that much more confusing. Worst teacher to take.
Dr. Mitchell is the freakin bomb. Nobody else has an easier bio class. Do the old tests(which he gives you) and go to class. If you do this you will sail through his class with an A. Odd sense of humor but great if you understand it.
Mitchell is very boring. He is a very smart man; however, he expects that everyone knows everything about biology already and he teaches the class like we're all professionals. He mumbles a lot and he jumps around when he's talking. And his study guides are of no help. I would not recomend him.
What a drone He mumbles and gets off track in lecture. Lecture handouts don't follow the text either, so if you're one who needs to read the book to learn the material forget it. His test questions dont represent the lecture or text material either. Take someone else if you can, but he is survivable
He is biased and only mentions parts of chapters he agrees with. If there is scientific evidence for a theory he doesn't agree with, he refuses to teach it. There is no such thing as primary, secondary, or tertiary photosynthesis I checked everywhere, yet he teaches it b/c its his idea, but no proof
Mitchell is an extremely boring lecturer. I mean, boring! But he is a good professor. I had him for lab as well as lecture and it was easy. His tests are simple and you don't necessarily have to attend lecture in order to pass...wink wink..so take him...its a nice break from going everytime.....
Very good teacher as far as notes, handouts, and explaining things. Good labs. The only problem is the final lab exam. He emphasized lecture notes and concepts in lab but the lab exam was over procedures and random stuff so nobody does well on it.
I enjoyed this class. Mitchel is a good teacher but sometimes goes a little over his student's heads. His labs are rediculously easy but not very interesting. He only teaches what he believes. He refuses to believe that evolution hasn't been absolutely proven yet. Is derrogatory towards creationists
If you want to sleep, attend lecture!! SO DRY AND SO BORING. Talk at a ridiculous fast rate and wants you to know particular stuff. Rizzo for lab is GREAT! She's quick and tells you what to do and practically does it for you. Mitchell for lecture=great sleeping time!
I enjoyed this class. Mitchel is a good teacher but sometimes goes a little over his student's heads and he tends to ramble on a lot about stuff that we really didn't care about. His labs are rediculously easy. He only teaches what he believes and pushes evolution like the whole semester.
BORING, tests are UNPREDICTABLE, if you disagree with evolution - you'll hate this class
Dr. Mitchell is very boring. The tests are so difficult. He is available for questioning, but that didn't help me. I don't exactly recommend him for these classes.
Take notes right from what he is saying, talks way too fast. Test review,a setup to trick you which he takes old test questions and rewords, expects diff. answers. He says, withdraw class if grade is less than B.Lab quizzes and Test are impossible, I read the chapters, lab, outline, YOU WILL FAIL.
I took this with Boogaard and failed. I'm passing this time around. Doesn't curve much. Labs with Rizzo are very clear. Questions on test you're going to take is a bit harder than old test. He's full of other facts so you know that he knows his stuff. Not really boring unless you're tired.
He really knows his stuff and puts a ton of information is at your disposal. Unfortunately, he does go on tangents and I found that one of the most difficult tasks in my college career was staying awake. Do not take this class early in the day, I implore you.
contradicts his thoughts and uses multiple meaning words on tests; no sense of humor and not funny in any conceivable way; monotone; snooze class;
Mitchell does have a sense of humor in his own way, but you have to get to him in lab for that. In lecture, be sure to bring a pillow. Its nearly impossible to stay awake with his quiet monotone in a large classroom full of students. Hes a really nice guy, and class isnt too hard, just study.
I think that Dr. Mitchell is great. This class definitely related more to auditory learners though. He puts transparencies up and vaguely explains them, but you have a course packet all set up for you to study from, and he puts alot of humorous comments as he teaches. I rate him high!!!
very boring teacher....lecture was extremely boring. Try to avoid if you are looking to be entertained, he will not entertain you.
Very boring lectures but you can buy his lecture notes along with some old tests...if you study it is easy and he has helpful review sessions
He rambles in the lecture and the tests are rediculous! What exactly you need to study is unclear from day one. Also, you may need to bring a cup of coffee to lecture...it can be a snoozer!!!
VERY EXTREMEMLY BORING!!!...can not stress that enough guys...this guy is a serious bore...if u wanna have a quick nap somewhere in the science building...go to his class...lecture is boring..but he doesnt take attedance...soo u dont have to be dere..test are straight from lecture..multiple choice...uses similiar questions to older tests...
Mitchell is a very smart teacher. He lectures the whole hour with transparencies on an overhead. Tests are moderate but easy if you read the chapters. And yes you will start to fall asleep if you are not rested. First class I ever almost fell asleep in.

He is a very smart guy. But he rambles about anything that doesn't have to do with what you are studying. He is never clear on anything and his tests are hard. The book is boring and it takes 3 pages to say one thing, just like his lectures. I would advise not taking this class with this teacher.
Is a very smart guy but not teacher material. He should work at a research institution or a bigger university. Gives a pretyped handout to take notes on. Very mono tone,so hard to pay attention. The only interesting things he says dont matter for the test. The book is very boring and test are over 7-10 chapters...Would recommend NOT taking him.
He is a good teacher. The only problem is that you really have to be able to listen to him..he is a bit monotone but if you listen he is actually pretty funny.
He was very boring in lectures and I had the pleasure of having him in lab as well. In lab he would lecture for the first hr. before allowing you to do the lab. Not a bad guy but not the best teacher.
He knew the subject very well, but kind of rambled on about other subjects.
He's good in lab, and really knows what he's doing. Lectures tend to be off track most of the time, and usually have little to do with the material, but his notes cover what he misses. Kind of a funny and unique guy. You'll learn a lot and it will prepare you with techniques.
He is nice guy but his lecture is really boring...He rambles around any subject during lecture that is nothing to do with the subject. He doesn't clarify things very well so you need to study for extra time to understand...
He is by far my favorite teacher at Ferris. I never leave this class feeling confused. He gives great examples, goes over everything well, and has a cute sense of humor. He makes class interesting and he is such a nice guy!
He isn't a bad teacher, but honestly, if you plan on just coming to class and listening, you will fail. He is a hard teacher, I never passed his tests and when I asked him a question he looked at me like I didn't know what he was talking about. Strange man!
He doesn't know what he's talking about half the time and the lectures are usless. His tests are ridiculous and he looks at you funny when you ask a question and never answers it. He rambles on about cats, corn, and sci-fi and then crams everything in. I would recommend you avoid him or be ready to teach yourself.
Terrible professor. Always jumps off topic, very corny jokes, and its very easy to lose focus. His test are ridiculous. I suggest u run far away from this professor
Uses a lecture packet that is hard to follow and does not do any other type of notes. Test consist of many chapters (like 8) and are crammed into 50 questions. Lectures are completely boring and pretty much a waste of time. I do better when I go off and take my own notes. I would not recommend this professor!!
Worst teacher I have had a Ferris. He doesn't explain things well! He only talks through the lecture notes! It is a pointless class to go to cause you will NOT learn much going! It is a waste of 50 mins!
Nice guy, and can be funny from time to time, but overall, prepare to be bored. He can get off topic a lot, and have you wondering what to study.
Mitchell is NOT that bad. He's actually very funny, and if you study you will do well on the tests. He also curves so that an A is an 89 and above which is really nice.
this professor is funny at times, but can get off topic. it is not so bad until you get to the test and realize that the non-sense that he was muttering about when he gets off track was the most important part of the test and it is repeated 4 times in different variations. my thoughts: what do i study, what is he talking about, why is this important?
His teaching style is extremely dry. He rambles off subject often and it's difficult to get him back on. You will learn a lot, but it will be self taught. His tests are straight from the notes, so if you study hard, you will be fine. Just be prepared to do it on your own! BOOORING lecture!
The lecture is long and boring along with the lab. He LOVES to talk about anything so he gets of topic frequently. I recommend you read the chapters before the lecture and take notes out of the book along as know is definitions of the bolded words in his notes and how to apply them to concept questions.
Mitchell likes to talk a lot in lecture and in lab, often about things not pertaining to Biology. It is often difficult to sit there and listen during lecture because it is so boring. Tests are quite difficult.
The tests lectures are long, boring and confusing. Biology is already a tough course but his delivery makes it just impossible to understand. You have no idea what will be on the test and they are insanely difficult. Lecture quizzes are just the same. I just stopped going to lectures and tried to learn from the book and tutors half way through.
Mitchell is an incompetent professor. His presentation skills are very poor, which leads to boring lectures and confused students. His exams are far too specific and rely solely on memorization, rather than understanding and application of concepts. Simply put,he isn't a good professor in any aspect and intentionally tries to make the course harder
By far the worst professor at Ferris. Can't even understand the jokes that he makes, let alone course material. The main issue is not being able to understand what he is talking about. Do not take. He would also drone on and on about pointless topics, and the tests are hard to understand. Use the textbook if you want to pass.
Dr. Mitchell can be monotone. However, if you push through the lectures and pay attention, you won't do too bad on the exams. You may miss some parts of the lecture and it is essential that you go through the book after and fill in the areas missed.
I never receive bad grades in school, until I took this class. Dr. Mitchell is not the professor you want to take, even if it is only a 121 class. He makes it way to hard. I did fine in all my other classes but this one I have to retake, and I went to every lecture and lab, having perfect attendance. No homework, nothing to study but a bad old test
I started off the semester not being a huge fan of Professor Mitchell, but over the first month and a half he has grown on me. He reads directly off his lecture notes, so class can seem to go by slower do to lack of excitement. However, he is a really nice person with a passion for what he does, so he is very approachable, especially in lab.
He is a tough teacher, to do well in the class you have to put forth a lot of effort and do a lot of outside work and preparation. He is a heavy lecturer, so sitting through his lectures is tough most days. If you pay close attention and read the book, you will be okay. Be prepared to work really hard to be able to do well in the class.
Dr Mitchell is a pretty cool guy. He does sometimes go off on tangents during lecture but he really knows what he is talking about. There isn't any homework so be prepared for lab quizzes and tests.
Tends to go off on tangents during lectures and can be a bit dull. He doesn't detail what content is on the test, which makes studying hard. He doesn't give homework, so his class is entirely based on tests and lab quizzes. His labs tend to last the whole 3 hours. As long as you pay attention in lecture and read the book you should be able to pass.
Dr. Mitchell is a remarkably contradictory combination of dry and unique. His out of lecture sense of humor is as unique as it gets, but his lecture style is probably the most boring I've had as a student. His class was basically self-teaching myself the material because I couldn't stay focused in class even a tiny bit. Very nice, but a boring guy.
If he gave tests about his cat, I would most likely be getting a solid A in his class.
Only grade is tests and he gives questions with multiple right answers. Ive taken a college biology class at another college and got a b with no struggle. Im currently holding onto a c-. He provides almost no supplement to help you learn. You are expected to succeed based on his lectures which he doesnot even talk about all the subjects on tests.
Your entire grade in this class is based on four tests, weekly 10-point lab quizzes, and a final. He does not post grades on Blackboard or Canvas. He does give out practice tests a week before he gives an exam but often there is material that he never went over on the tests. Save yourself the stress and switch professors!!
Worst professor I've ever had. Lecture grade is based only on 4 tests. they're all 50pt multiple-choice tests, but most of the information is stuff that he never covered well. Lab is 20% of the grade and is based on 10 point quizzes given at the beginning of the lab. these quizes cover the lab from last week AND THE ONE YOU HAVENT EVEN DONE YET!!!
His lectures are extremely vague and goes over things very quickly. His tests will have questions where multiple answers could be correct. He'll give you your grade back but what tell you what you got right or wrong. He also advertised on his syllabus that most people fail or drop the class.
Prof Mitchell is awful at teaching biology. He explains things as if we know what he is talking about. He also goes on tangents about his cats and mom a lot so it is hard to focus on the material we need to know for the exams. He is very approachable though and if you have questions, he will be glad to answer them, but in a complicated manner.
Prof Mitchell was terrible at teaching this class. He is extremely vague about everything. Gives no homework so there is no way to test yourself on the material. He only grades you off of 4 tests and a lab grade. He would go on tangents with no end in sight. His test questions were in depth questions on things he rarely talked about.
Dr. Mitchell is terrible! Avoid this class if you can. He goes off on tangents during lecture, does not give homework or any guidance to material, and mainly talks about his mom and cats. I wouldn't have minded homework just so I could get a clear understanding of material. Test are very misleading where multiple answers could be correct.
If you want to learn in lecture, choose someone else. I didn't learn much from lectures, I used the book to gain actual knowledge. He doesn't use canvas so you only see your grade at midterm and finals. Only graded on exams and lab quizzes (which contain some questions from labs not yet completed). Nice guy, but not the best professor.
This man is by far the worst professor. He has so little assignments to grade, so if you happen to do bad on one item, you are going to fail. READ THE BOOK, MASTER THE CHAPTERS. Beware, on his exams, many of the answers could be correct, use your best judgement. He doesn't show what you got wrong on the exam, just puts a letter grade. AVOID HIM !!!
Dr. Mitchell was the worst professor I have ever had in college. Your grade is based only on four exams. If you do poorly on one it is nearly impossible to recover. He doesn't use canvas at all and never responds to emails. The lab section with him may be worse than the lectures. He takes all 3 hours every single lab and the quizzes are impossible.
If you want to learn and retain information about biology this is not the professor for you. If you would like to know all about a professor's life history you are in the right spot. Over the course of the semester, we learned different facts about his cats, and stories about his mother. You are better off reading from the book.
Dr. Mitchell is a kind man, but problematic teacher. This course consists of 4 exams which make up most of your grade and there are no study guides or sessions available. He reads straight from the lecture packet, but somehow most of it doesn't end up on the exam. Diligent study skills and outside learning are the only ways to pass with Mitchell.
This class sucked. He lectures for at least an hour before each lab, about nothing related to the lab. He is particularly fascinated with the British Monarchy in the middle ages. His lecture, lectures are completely random and you never know what will be on the test. Also the final was by far the hardest test of the class.
Goes on tangents about random things, gives out vague notes packets and doesn't describe it, and doesn't have a Canvas. You are going to have to rely on the textbook to get through the class, and if possible, read the textbook before lecture. I am usually a high-grade student and passing wasn't easy in this class.
Just Read from textbook!
I would rather watch paint dry than go to his lectures. Lecture guides were the only resource he provided and using it as a study guide will result in a maximum of 40% on his tests as the majority of his questions relied on memorization from the book. He gave no homework and grades were based purely on lab quizzes and tests.
I am not joking that this is the worst professor I have ever had do not expect a good grade in his class. During his lectures it is like he does not even know the material. You will have no idea what the exam is on either because he says all the book and lecture is fair game if anybody says he is a good teacher know they are lying.
Honestly the worst teacher I have ever had in all my life. His lectures are pointless to attend as nothing he says will be on the test. His labs are also equally as horrendous as for he takes the entire 3 hours talking about nonsense. Avoid Dr. Mitchell at all costs, it will waste money, time, and credits.
75% of your grade in this course is his lecture, which is made up of 3 exams and a final. Thats it. He tells you to read his book and use his lecture notes to study, neither work. Good luck passing his class. Doesnt explain anything and goes on tangents about nothing.
I also had Dr. Mitchell in BIO 375, and he is so hard; the only grades are exams and labs. The exams are not easy. He is hard to listen to in lecture, and he forgets what he says in the middle of a conversation. He doesn't use Canvas and if you email him, he will not respond. goodluck
Take it with someone else your better off
