A friendly guy who answers any questions you have. MUST ACTUALLY READ ASSIGNMENT
keep up on your reading and take notes. A good guy and makes class worthwhile
keeps class interesting and gets right to the point
Study guides are very helpful, and he is always willing to help
A good professor that is always willing to help. Friendly.
very helpful, assumes you know the information some, very nice!!!
Sweet guy. Study guides just like exams.Learned a lot and was easy and fun!
Jerk! unorganized notes, hard tests, avoid this guy!
Cool Guy, keep on the reading and you will do well
Pay attention in class. Go to course website. Do study guide and od good.
keep up with reading and do the study guides they are the test
Great guy, makes class interesting, tests are a bit hard for 100 lv class
If you work hard, you'll get an A no problem
expects a lot on tests, but great guy
good lectures, tests kind of hard, expects a lot
outlines lect, tests not too straight forward, have to go to class to understand
Good teacher. Use the website and go to class. You'll do fine.
extremely helpful, exams straight off the study guide, kinda funny
EASY get the study guide and you will get a on test
Good Teacher, interesting class, learned a lot - need to do the reading..
Good Instructor, fun class, study and do the reading
good teacher, excellent examples, good study materials/lectures
I LOVED MOILES
lectures were soo boring!! tests were impossible...class average terrible.

Too much to read - wayyyyyy tooo much
He's cool, but lectures are boring... may just be because it's a boring class in general. You almost never get out early. Exams are difficult. Paper is a pain, but you'll get through it...

Forgets that not all students are familiar with material as him....Forgets the meaning in what a 100 level class means....
would have done the reading but too borning and would fall asleep. Lectures style is horrible. Teaches with outlines you just fill in the blanks. Exams are hard but with 6 hrs of studying you'll get an A.

He is one of the hardest graders I have ever taken. I had something word for word from our notes on our test and didn't get any points! Lectures with overhead THE WHOLE TIME! BORING, and way too hard for a 102 class! Don't take!
very nice guy and genuinely cares about students. Exams are tough but do well on hw and paper and you'll be fine.
Good teacher. Goes through a lot of material, but always willing to clarify or take time on something that the class is having trouble with. Expectations may be a little high for a lower-level class, but don't avoid taking the class only because of him.
MOILES ROCKS !!!!
very hard forgets majorly that it is an intro course to social research trys to put way too much stuff on you in one class doesnt actually review in review times just covers more stuff, DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you dotn want a life
He is the best prof that i have ever had.He goes over the readings in class, so if you go to class there's no need to do the reading. He gives you a study guide for each exam. All the ?'s that he does give are on the exam.Very easy class.
Easy class just be sure to attend most lectures to get almost all the information for tests, otherwise you'll be stuck reading. Gives study guides with exam questions which is a blessing.
Extremely easy grade, gives you outlines for the tests, so you're basically studying for the test from the test. Boring lecture though, uses outlines, often felt that going to a class was a waste of time. Try to sidetrack him with discussions, much better
He delays grading, dumps stuff on you at the end of the semester because he has slacked the first half of it. Cares about subject but is not very productive or efficient. Will not take again and don't recommend.
Good prof. He gives outlines for the tests with the actual questions on them for essays and short answers. Mulitiple choice was a little ambiguous though. Great guy willing to help you out.
Starts off the semester seeming hard, lots of reading... its a joke, never have to really do it. Gets behind easily, but class is easy. Nice guy to talk to.
Do the study guide
Loved this class. Lots of reading but you dont have to really do anything until he gives you studyguide. Only 2 assts all semester. You will fall asleep in class. Really nice guy. Helpful office hours.
This was the worst class that I have ever had!! Goes into way to much info on social research than needs to and talks only about poli sci stuff when it is supposed to be for all SS students. He is overly cocky and boring to listen to do not take this clas
knows his stuff, but has attendance policy where you have to sign in each class. dont bother with the readings, take online quizzes for pratice and go over notes to ace exams.
about as good as it gets for govt. really nice guy, helpful study guides, kind of funny, doesn't give his own politics at all. govt and history are never interesting topics but moiles is a good prof.
He wasted so much time talking about current events that sometimes I craved notes! Overall an ok prof. You have to study for tests to do anything better than failing unless you already know everything about the government. Notes were very clear
Good mother of mary this guy is the laziest professor I have ever had. He literally wrote the final exam 1 hour before it was due. Easiest A of your life. I almost feel like I should get a refund back from GVSU.......
Good professor, knows what he's talking about. Usually unprepared and doesn't turn back papers in a timely manner. Class was SWS but he only gave one writing assignment (the last day) because he never took the time to prepare one earlier.
Great professor, just take notes and look over the readings for any added help. Answers your questions and gives fair exams. To do well just study your notes and have him clearify anything else.
AAHHHHHHH !! THIS IS THE WORST CLASS I EVER HAD. IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT ... DON'T TAKE IT WITH HIM.. ALL HE TALKS ABOUT IS POLITICAL SCIENCE AND HIS CLASS IS AWFUL.. I CAN'T STAND HIM. ALTHOUGH HE IS A NICE GUY THIS CLASS.. BOTTOM LINE.. SUCKS
Nice guy, but what the hell was he talking about...
Extremely boring guy- very nice but a snooze-fest. Class is filled with him talking way too much about everything except the course. Is unorganized and gives the feeling he's lazy. Pick another prof!
Take This Prof! Very helpful, knows what he's talking about, discusses with you doesn't teach at you. Classes can get long. Genuinely cares about his students. Take notes and study review guide and you'll do good.
Easy class. It can get boring at times, especially the three hour sections but he talks with the class and encourages discussion. Very willing to help out with any problems you might be having in the class and his exams are easy to study for with the guides he gives to you.
the guy knows what hes doing, but he is very slow to get tests/midterms back (took ours 2 weeks late, got it back mid-november, thus preventing me from dropping), but either way, its pretty easy if you can analyze numbers and data
Definitely knows his stuff, but only mediocre professor. He takes FOREVER to get things back, & most people in my class never did get either homework assignment(one from SEPTEMBER)returned to us. I thought tests were hard, definitely study and take good notes,& go see him because he does take that into consideration when it comes time for grades.
Great professor. He's very clear about what he wants and tests you on the most important concepts. He's pretty funny, but most of his jokes are lost on the typical stare-at-the-wall Grand Valley student. He usually starts off class with current events, which helps relate class topics to real life. Great professor.
not sure if he is gonna be around in the Fall '06, but a very helpful Prof. easy goin. The content might be a little bit of a bore, but if u gotta take PLS 341 he's your guy.
This class was really hard. He took WAY too long to return assignments. I didn't think it would bug me but it took at least a month for each test and 2 1/2 months for him to return a 2 page paper. I mean, he's an ok prof, but wow. Most people got b's and c's...very few a's
Class blows. He is a nice enough guy, but was completely unfair when it came to grading. did not hand things back anywhere near when he promised he would (handed an assignment in on Sept 23 and got it back Dec 7). Said he was going to curve the entire class at the end of the semester and I still got a C. His tests suck and hes boring as sin.
TERRIBLE class, THE WORST PROF. Very boring, very awkward, and VERY lazy. Took over 2 months to get our only assignment back.....It's like he thinks students don't care about his performance and he can just coast through GVSU without respecting stuents. O wait...most GV prof's do that...
Oh my goodness...the most BORING prof ever!! DO NOT take him, he blabs on for hours, and never gets through the material...his test are too hard considering all the stuff he doesn't go over in class. RUN AWAY!
Wow if your looking for an upper level political science class that you really dont have to try in, this is it, barely used the texts, but he explains everything he wants you to know in lecture. nice guy
Great professor...you have to read and you have to go to class (it is college after all). He does take a long time to get assignments back, but he really knows the material he's teaching. He also provides extra office hours around tests, which is very helpful.
The tests are over a lot of chapters!! like 5-7 chapters per test!! harddddd. get a different teacher if you can. helpful guy, but i've hear that you can take this class with an easier teacher!
Sometimes he goes off on tangents and loses track of what we were really talking about. Overall, coming from a teacher, you just have to do the readings and pay attention in class and you will do fine. Don't read, don't pay attention and just be lazy, you will do poorly.
He is well spoken and tells you upfront about every assignment. He's terrible about giving things back on time, but gives out assignments with plenty of notice before they're due. He's big on class participation and while attendance wasn't mandatory, it was expected.Tests are fair and students are well informed on their content.
Tells you what questions will be on exams. Slow to hand papers back. Has easy map quizes that are a good grade booster. Very knowledgeable, and a nice guy. Encourages, but doesn't force discussion. Will let class out early in general.
Prof Moiles is great. He made a 3-hr night class as interesting as possible. Lots of lecture/note-taking during class, but interesting subject matter & he encourages discussion. No homework other than readings. Tests are easy and right from the book/lecture/readings, and he gives you a study guide with all the concepts, short answer & essay questio
Very good professor. He keeps class interesting by relating current topics with the topics we cover in notes. Just make sure you study his notes, as they have the answers to his exams and quizzes.
great
Avoid at all costs. I studied a lot and still couldn't get a B in the class. Said he would curve the grades, but never did. Also took all semester to get papers back. DON'T TAKE HIM!
if you take this guy beware. he is the hardest teacher i have come acrossed yet. this is a 100 level class and his midterm and final have/had over 60 terms that you had to know and he would use only about 8 of them. this is a must stay away from teacher!!!
Roger is overall a pretty good guy. Test are hard and he expects you to know a lot matierial and doesnt put it all on the test and expects you to know alot about the things he does put on there. Also grades papers easily and is very understanding when you have to miss a class
Roger is overall a pretty good guy. Test are hard and he expects you to know a lot matierial and doesnt put it all on the test and expects you to know alot about the things he does put on there especially for a 100 level class. Also grades papers easily and is very understanding when you have to miss a class
professor moiles teaches and interesting subject and manages to make it boring. Hes a very nice guy so if thats your thing you might want to take him. If learning is your thing, he appeares lazy and it seems like he loses most peoples interests. Very hard exams. I would generally advise agaomst him.
Lectures are bearable and map quizzes are really easy. But the tests are impossible. You can study all night and get a C, because he expects you to become a polisci expert in a matter of weeks. He takes off points for minor details missed and not knowing EVERY SINGLE THING! Save yourself from high blood pressure and steer clear of moiley.
One of the nicest profs around. All the tests have study guides. The quizes were easy but do the reading for the tests. He almost always added something from the book he didn't cover in the lecture.
I enjoy taking his classes! I've taken two so far and he's a really easy and good prof. He uses power-points and the map quizzes are really easy. It helps to use the book when doing your study guide but otherwise I never used it. Really good and easy class
Prof. Moiles is the nicest guy ever! You can tell he is truly passionate about what he teaches. He's a tough grader but gives you a study guide that makes up all exams and if you go to his office hours he talks you through everything. If you go to class and go to his office hours you will get an A! One of the best Poly Sci professors at GV.
The most boring class I have ever taken and very unorganized Prof. It took months to get our papers and exams back. Map quizes and papers are easy but exams are very difficult to get a good grade.
Promised us he'd return our exams for months, each class period had some excuse why he didn't and promised he would the following week. Ridiculous. Nice guy, easy class, but ridiculous if you care about tracking your progress.
Tests and quizzes are based on the book, and easy if you study. He took so long handing back grades and papers that what was meant to be a semester-long project got crammed into a couple weeks. Very boring also. Non-stop note taking and doesnt post to Blackboard.
Moiles was a decent prof. He was pretty helpful, and tried his best to make a boring class relevant to our lives. He really does take forever to get assignments back, as its now finals week and I have yet to see my midterm... But he is a fair grader, doesn't assign too much work, and will devote around half a class period to current events.
A really dumb subject. Research methods? Its impossible to learn whatever it is were suppose to know from his long boring lectures. Nice guy but he tries to hard to teach something, when from reading the book, there is not much to be learned. Very strict on the wording of your test answers. He wants you to copy and paste from the book, memorize
Really nice guy! if you have to take this class or if you have the choice of taking this or psych 300 then take this class. It was pretty easy. He gives study guides that are exactly what you need to know for the exams. Takes a long time to get grades back which is irritating but he is helpful and I am very glad I took his class.
SO BORING. Just so boring. If you aren't super into the topic already and if you don't already have background in it... you will sleep. Not the most difficult grader in the world, but seriously, he is so monotone that I could barely get through 10 minutes of class.
Gives study guides that are exactly what is on the test, but grades awkwardly compared to the study guide. Hard to comprehend what he wants. Takes FOREVER to get things back. 4 weeks for a test back. 4 weeks for article summaries. This is the last semester of SS 300 luckily.
SO BORING! Lectures every single class and often gets distracted talking about political things that won't be on the test. Don't expect tests or papers back until AT LEAST a month after you turn it in. Gives you a study guide but grades difficult on tests. I would recommend a different prof.
Roger is a great asset to the University. Very intelligent, down-to-earth and always willing to help.
Professor Moiles is an awesome teacher! He's very helpful and his classes are rather easy. I've taken two of his courses so far and have absolutely enjoyed them both! His tests are easy if you use the study guide and his grading is awkward, but he usually gives points back. I would greatly recommend him.
Terrible. Grades exams harshly. Nice enough guy it seems like but it's difficult to do well.
Did not enjoy this class at all. He is VERY boring and attedance is mandatory. Weekly reading quizzes on BB but gives your a study guide for each exam. Hard to know what he wants on exams. Each exam has 25 multiple choice, 5 identification- write out definition of word given- and 5-6 essays. Not an easy A.
Very nice guy, but I found the class boring. I missed over half the lectures, and still got a B- in the class, I did have some health issues and he was very understanding about them. Tests are kind of hard, I was glad to have taken AP Government in High School, that helped a lot. Flash cards help when learning vocab. for tests.
He goes on and on about random things, sidetracking for half of the class; very boring when he does this.
Professor Moiles is a very nice guy, extremely knowledgeable, and is willing to help in any way. However, he does get off topic very easy in class. His tests can be tricky so you really got to pay attention. Overall I would recommend him, but if you don't have any interest in political science you will have a hard time paying attention in lectures
He barely talked about the class, mostly sidetracked and his explinations were so long and off topic that they didn't help. The online quizes were easy but his tests in class were horrible and hard to understand. I hated taking this class and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Very understanding about student schedules and illnesses. I missed many classes due to illness and he was very nice about it. But, his lectures are horribly boring, I suggest studying the material during class while he lectures, since attendance is mandatory. Final is a paper worth 15% of your grade and isn't bad if you paid attention a little.
Professor Moiles is a really nice guy but so boring. He really got sidetracked during class and went off on random tangents that made it hard to focus. Reading quizzes on BB that I never read for and usually got 9/10 or 10/10. I feel pretty mutual about the class, it was just okay.
Boring lectures....really boring unless your a PLS buff. Tests are easy just memorizing vocab and hes a really nice guy. The final is just and easy paper. Study for the tests and participate and you'll be fine
Was very boring but if you went to class and did readings and studied for exams you were probably well off.
EASY A! Great guy with a vast interest in politics. Lectures can be boring for the most part. Online quizzes are open book and are fairly simple if you skim over the chapters prior. 3 exams are straightforward bc they are consistent with his study guides. Final paper requires a few hours tops. VERY EASY.
Lectures are a tad boring, but his test are easy if you study. Weekly online quizzes were fairly easy too.
I really enjoyed this class. Mr. Moiles was really clear in his lectures and really easy to talk to/understanding about any problems. It was a little boring (but I find PLS boring.) But overall not super difficult and I learned a lot.
Professor Moiles is a really nice guy and very understanding, but the class is rather boring and the exams didn't really relate to what we learned. Not a super hard class, but it's a struggle to even go.
Alright, I'm a political science major, and I found the lecture excruciatingly boring. On the bright side, Professor Moiles is a really great guy, very friendly, and very understanding. If you're good at memorizing terms, you'll easily secure an A in this class. Overall, it wasn't bad...just boring lectures.
This class was dreadful. Boring. The tests are not like the study guides. He takes forever to grade and hand things back. My final is in a day and I have no idea what I'm getting in the class because he doesn't post grades. Horrible class!
This class was rough. For someone who knows absolutely nothing about politics it was really hard to understand his lectures, terms in the book, and material on the tests. I would study for 8 hours straight the day before an exam and still get a B- or C+ on the test. Lectures were also extremely boring. Lets just say I fell asleep more than once.
I'm not sure why everyone is so obsessed w/ saying "he is a nice guy." Even if someone was as nice as the Pope that doesn't mean they would be a great Professor. This class was awful for anyone besides PLS majors (they can simply memorize terms), for the rest of the class, we were not so lucky. Do yourself a favor & stay away from this GPA ruiner.
Take a different professor! I am a straight A student with a D in this class. His lectures are dry and tests HARD We had one large paper that I enjoyed and did well on, the map quizzes were easy yet I received a D because he expected everyone to speak everyday. He does not respond to emails and is never in his office even during his scheduled times
I'm a Poly Sci Major and I still found him pretty boring. He gets off topic really easily when the class talks about news stories and therefore you fall way behind the syllabus. The grade is mostly exams and map quizzes and only one homework assignment.
It is the day before the final and I have received only one grade out of 12 map quizzes, 2 exams, and one paper. I have no idea what my grade is.
Take a different prof!! The exams are so HARD. I studied a ton and still did terrible! And don't plan on knowing your grade.
Nice guy but so boring, especially for a 6-9 class. Most people left on the break. He goes off topic and doesn't quote the book. He has chapter quizzes but doesn't put them online so you almost read for nothing. I wouldn't suggest him for a three hour class.
He is a nice guy, but his class is unbelievably boring. I advise getting a different professor for this or PLS102.
I am a Poli Sci major and this class was extremely boring. He got off topic more than a lot during class discussions and even when he was on topic it was hard to follow along. He talks the whole entire time and even sometimes a couple minutes after class is over. If you like keeping up with your grades I would suggest a different prof.
I am a Poli Sci major and this class was extremely boring. He got off topic more than a lot during class discussions and even when he was on topic it was hard to follow along. He talks the whole entire time and even sometimes a couple minutes after class is over.
To do well in the course, you have to do a lot of reading and studying on your own, as a 75-minute class is mainly 50 minutes current events, and about 25 minutes of actual class material. His lectures aren't that engaging, but state politics is a pretty boring subject as it is, so I wasn't shocked. Use the test study guides, and you'll do fine.
This class is SO EASY. His lectures can be pretty disorganized, but the information is not difficult at all. Moiles can be a little boring, especially if you are not interested in political science/current events- he likes to ramble on for a long time, but its fine, because when he rambles about current events its not on the test. KNOW YOUR VOCAB
Moiles can get side tracked, however he is really smart and knows what he's talking about. its a fairly easy class. just one major paper, some map quizzes (very easy) and the exams. Exams are based heavily on lecture & vocab from the book. Get the book. He's extremely helpful and understanding.
As a social work major, I had to take this class. & I've learned absolutely nothing. His lectures are uncreative and dry, and he has taken over a month to grade our exams. His exams are also mostly essay questions, very difficult. I need a B- to pass and I don't even know if I am cuz he doesn't post ANY grades. DON'T TAKE THIS PROF!
He is great! I think the class was super easy BUT you have to show up, as there are frequent map quizzes and lectures are the primary source of info. If you put in the effort you will get a great grade. He is always helpful if you ask questions. You will learn a lot.
There are map quizzes every week, usually Mondays. His class is extremely boring and he tends to lecture at the ground without looking at his students. His exams are word for word for the study guide. He is HORRIBLE about putting grades in. Going into the final, there is a good chance you won't have any idea what your grade is!
He gets distracted a lot, but you can tell he cares and he is a good guy. Read the material and do the study guides, and maybe go to office hours to be sure.
He's a really nice guy and he is very willing to help students. He is kind of a tough grader and gets off topic a lot in lectures too. His study guides are great though and he pulls directly from the book. A few Map quizzes, one paper, and three exams. Not too bad, but he is looking to see students really know the information.
Severely boring, unless you LOVE politics i would find another class, all i want to do is sleep and i feel like I'm wasting half my lecture learning about news that although current, has nothing to do with my final...
Is a very tough grader, can be unclear on what exactly he is looking for. Tends to be a minute or two late. Long time to get assignments back.
Boring! Worst PLS class I have taken. Spends the 1st half of class asking students about Michigan news and the 2nd half giving the world's most boring lecture. He is a nice guy, but not the greatest educator.
If attendance wasn't taken, i would of just show up for the test
I would not recommend this professor to any future student. He did not post grades until AFTER they were final, so I did not know my grade until transcripts were out. He spends the whole class period lecturing. This professor was very unorganized and I wish I would've taken a different class.
Mostly discussions but he expects you to participate. Tests are easy if you understand material but be prepared to write a good amount on the tests.
I would not recommend this professor for a gen ed credit class. The tests are pretty tough, but my biggest complaint is that I didn't know my grades until after the final exam.
You could not pay me to recommend this teacher. The exams are extremely unclear and impossible; all he does during class is read powerpoint slides that he refuses to make available; you won't know what grade you have until the class is over giving you no option to drop it. Save your GPA, take with someone else.
When I went to class I left with the same amount of knowledge that I came with, He does not lecture well and often gets sidetracked. When it comes to exams he just expects you to 100% understand what he wants while giving no insight. If you have to take this class find a new professor.
He did not put in grades until the final exam was over, and offered no insight to your grade until the final was posted. He Had map quizes about every week, and did not show the grades for these until the class was over. He was of no help. He did not offer a lot of insight into what he actually wanted on his tests. I do not recommend.
bad notes, bad lectures, gets off topic a lot, and study guides don't help at all for the exams. nice guy though
Nice guy but you learn absolutely nothing in class that helps you on his exams. He grades extremely hard for someone who doesn't teach you anything. Also good luck knowing your grade, nothing is posted into blackboard and he takes over a month to get your exam back
Moiles is by far the worst professor I have ever had when it comes to returning tests/homework. Will take him a month to return anything and posts nothing to blackboard until after the semester is over. The class itself is pretty easy but he takes attendance so you have to go. He lectures after class has ended at times and is incredibly monotonous.
Prof. Moiles is a nice person, though I would never again take one of his classes. He is very unorganized and he never covers all of the material that he plans on before the exam. Also, I received a 91.97% on the first exam, and I think that I should have scored higher. Some of his comments/points take off were arguable.
Prof Moiles is a nice guy. However, this class was so boring. He never covered everything he said was going to be on the exams. The exams aren't too bad, but you definitely have to study. He takes attendance and he gets off topic often. It also takes him a while to get exams back to you.
If you understand the material and want to know more about politics, his class is good. He knows his stuff. Kind of a tough grader. Read the material and you'll be fine.
Professor Moiles is very intelligent and knows so much. I personally was fascinated by all of his lectures; sometimes he'd get off topic, but it was all still relevant information. The tests were easy if you studied, minimal papers, only homework was reading and taking notes. You will gain a great appreciation for government if you take this course
Prof. Moiles is a super nice guy, and always willing to offer help if you need it. But, class is incredibly boring since he lectures to the ground. Often, he will talk about unrelated topics for 35-40 minutes. The material is of average difficulty, read the text and take good notes. Just really boring.
Professor Moiles really cares about his students and the class but he can go off topic sometimes discussing current issues for the whole class. The tests are easy but include a lot of writing and the class overall isn't bad.
He was a pretty good professor, he knows what he's talking about and he is very interesting if you can catch him outside/after class. He lectures almost the entire class period so beware if you're not super interested in the topic as he can get pretty long winded.
You may end up going into the final exam with an A and work hours for the final paper and hours studying for the final exam, but all you will see is a final grade with no explanation of why the hell it droped! Never take this class.
Prof Moiles is a really nice guy. Just be prepared that he talks..A LOT. He will start the class with current events, then go off on 30-45 minute tangents only loosely related to the class. He often does not get through what he wants to cover as a result and a lot of learning is up to you. Also he isn't great about responding email or posting on BB
This professor is so kind hearted. He is very nice and accepting, and was probably one of the nicest college professors I've met. However, his health concerns got in the way of his teaching, so there were practically no tests or assignments in the grade book, and he left students unsure of when grades would be up. I was always worried of my grade.
Moiles is a really nice guy. You can tell he is very passionate about politics. His tests are fine except the written portion. You have to be really specific or he may take off points. My only complaint is that he takes a long time to grade tests and you dont know where you stand until after the final
Hes a super sweet guy! If you do the work youll get a good grade! I love international relations so I really enjoyed this course. It was not difficult at all.
Do not take this class with him unless it is absolutely necessary. He is a tough grader and the class is ridiculously hard for an entry level international relations/gen ed class. He is a super nice guy and cares about the topics he teaches, but I have never hated anything more than I hated this class. Save your sanity and GPA, don't take him!!
Save yourself! Do not take one of his classes. I took his entry level gen-ed class and it was the most horrible experience. We never knew what was due or when, he was very unorganized, and he wasted over half of the class period rambling. He's a nice guy and you can tell he enjoys political science but he isn't the best at teaching it to others.
Nice guy who means well and is passionate on what he teaches, but the class has been awful. Lectures are very scattered, the syllabus is very poorly followed, and he never gets to grading things on time or even within a reasonable time frame so you don't know your grade throughout the semester. I'd recommend trying another prof for the class.
OK, his lectures are kind of boring, mostly because he doesn't rely much on class participation. But, he is sooooo nice you feel bad for being a bit bored. I thought his tests and assignments were pretty easy. There are also map quizzes which can help keep your grade up. It wasn't my favorite class but I learned so much.
I cannot physically stay awake in this lecture. He assigns readings on blackboard for homework and in lecture talks nonstop. He often talks about things unrelated to the text and on a tangent. It is difficult to stay engaged when he talks at the class for an hour and fifteen minutes straight. I would not take this class with him again.
Prof. Moiles is a good professor. Talk a lot about current events. Lectures can get long and be a bit dry at times, but he tries his best. Definitely need to do the readings posted on BB questions on those will be on the exam, do not buy the textbook as reading it is not that important to the class. Exams are okay, some writing but not very hard.
This class is so pointless, he gives you vague directions and you will have no clue how you are actually doing in the class until the very end. He is a very tough grader and his instruction for large assignments make no sense and will leave you stressed. There are unrealistic reading expectations and you cannot use any technology in class.
Roger is a great guy. Very passionate about the subject matter. Lectures get to be very long. His office hours are very helpful.
Prof. Moiles is a super nice guy and great to talk to outside of class! This class was easy, especially if you took US gov in HS. His lectures can get boring sometimes because he'll go on tangents, but overall the class was great! The readings were long but easy to skim and still get the idea. Also, you go over everything in class. Not much HW too.
He's a nice guy but he's never replied to any of my emails. He always goes over the hour and fifteen minutes on ridiculous tangents. I've been in this class for 7 weeks and I've only learned about nuclear weapons because that's all he's talked about. The lectures are absolutely impossible to follow
He's a very nice guy, but not the best professor. He works with students really well if they have outside problems going on, but in class it's hard to follow because he lectures the entire period and gets distracted very easily. He does give very good and clear study guides before exams though.
lectures are unrelated from what youre learning & hard to follow. the study guides are helpful, but arent given to you with enough time to fully learn. hasnt gave me my last exam back I took over a month ago & my final in a couple of days. Also hasnt graded a paper I wrote in October.
My experience with this professor was sadly horrible. We got off track from the syllabus right away and never got back on track. Lectures were not the most informative and pretty boring a lot of the time. Overall he is a nice guy and wants to do his best. Still, I can't recommend taking a class from him.
This professor is by far the worst. From the unorganization of the class periods to the super long and boring lectures, none of it matters. The exams don't cover anything that he lectures which makes it super hard to study for. Never taking a class with him again.
This is a class that you mainly just come to to listen to him lecture the entire time. If that's your style of learning, then this class will be just fine. He does take forever to grade assignments, and wont put your scores in Blackboard. He gives out study guides for every test that are easy to work through if you commit time to it.
Prof. Moiles is such a nice guy and is very clearly passionate about what he is teaching. I just found his lectures to be a little boring and though the material is no harder than H.S. government, I didn't do good on the written parts of his tests because he is a pretty tough grader. He also takes a long time to grade papers.
He knows what he's talking about and is super nice. But his classes are unorganized so you never really know what to expect form lecture. You're really only graded by map quizzes, two exams, and one group project. We're over the halfway point in the semester and he hasn't assigned the groups he said he'd assign week 2. He's fine.
Super nice guy! I mean so amazingly nice. He lectures a lot, and I absolutely cannot learn that way so its a struggle for me. I honestly wish there were more assignments so I could get graded that way, because the exam was a challenge for me. Too many essay questions and definitions.
Roger is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. He wants you to do well but on exams he is a TOUGH grader. I got a 72% on the midterm that I had studied weeks for. I had him during COVID-19 which forced the class online but he was still always available for help and checked in on me a few times during the outbreak!
Prof Moiles is nice but the class itself is quite boing. It is very lecture heavy and just not that exciting.
I think that P. Moiles is a very sweet and caring guy. I had him during covid, and he even reached out to check on me because I was falling behind. He was flexible and understanding. However, his exams were hard, and he grades tough. He lectures the entire hour and goes off on tangents, so we were very behind and unorganized. Weekly map quiz.
I loved this class, he is super knowledgeable and keeps you informed. if you did well in high school gov youll do well here. He doesnt assign homework so it didnt take up much time at all, but the class is based on only 3 exams so if you arent the strongest test taker it might not be the best option, however he gave really good study guides b4.
The worst thing about him is he lectures from the book, but he likes discussion and is very informed on current events, so if you ask questions the class becomes more interesting. He's also a nice guy and wrote me a letter of recommendation for a program I applied to.
In this class, we only talked about the 2020 election even though it was not on any test/quiz/exam we took. He also never answered when I emailed him. I did not learn much if anything in this class.
Nice guy, just wasn't the best professor. Got an A in the class but don't know how since my grade was pretty much based on the two midterms and the final and I only found out my grade on the first midterm. Not too difficult but you'll have no idea what your grade is and his lectures often go on about things that aren't relevant to the class.
Never responded to one email during the whole semester. VERY lecture-heavy and goes off on tangents, which aren't relevant. Uses ppt slides but they are for him, they don't give you any info if you didn't listen to his lecture. Gives great study guides though! Two quizzes, a small paper, participation points, and three exams. SLOW grader.
Hes a very sweet person. He has the best interest of the class in mind, however, I do not believe teaching is his strong suit. He goes off on tangents 99% of the time and doesnt use blackboard until the end of the semester. Said there would be quizzes and readings, and there were none. for someone with test anxiety, he was not the prof for me.
No response to emails, didn't know grades until midterms and finals. Syllabus was incorrect, group project never happened, assignments never happened, and extra book he had us buy was never used. We got credit for some of those which is fine, its just confusing as to why its on the syllabus, since it seems like a common problem each year.
Nice guy just not a great professor. He does not grade things and does not respond to emails. Had to reach out to the Dean with my concerns.
He is a really nice guy but he is an awful professor. If you email him, he will not respond. No homework which was nice but his whole class was basically just the midterm and final exam. If you dont do good on those you probably wont do well in the class. Find someone else to take this course with!!
Roger is a nice guy, but should not be a professor. He put one grade in the entire semester, which was an exam taken months ago. He only ever assigned one homework assignment, 3 exams, and the rest of your grade is participation. He is an extremely difficult grader, even if I did well on the multiple choice it didn't matter. Never responds to email
Do not take this class if you want to fail. The lack of communication was appalling leading to many people failing this class.
He is a good guy, but I did not enjoy his class. His classes made me want to fall asleep and he rambles. The lectures were boring. We had map quizzes which were very easy but the exams were difficult. He doesn’t make eye contact, he doesn’t answer your emails, and he doesn’t post grades. Doesn’t explain anything well.
After reading the reviews I was really nervous about this class with this professor but if you go to class and study you will be fine. There are weekly map quizzes that are easy points (most people get 100 on all of them) the tests aren't bad if you study and he's super flexible and understanding with deadlines for papers. I also learned a lot.
Prof Moiles is a great person, but not a great professor. He tends to ramble and get off track in his lectures. No homework or quiz's were given throughout the semester. Final grade was based on mid-terms, a paper, and the final. He doesn't answer his email.
This class had the potential to be fun but, ultimately, was one of my least favorite classes. Most of the course was disorganized, as we had to cut the group project at the end of the semester. Distractions from the lectures were common, and the weekly map quizzes were not helpful.
He will make you buy a 90-dollar textbook to use once. Doesn't grade much, so if you mess up once, your highest grade will probably be a b or c. He seems like a cool guy outside his job, but he talks about absolutely nothing for 45 percent of class time.
He is a sweet guy but he gives out weekly test and never put them into the grade book so it was pointless to take them. The only grade in the grade book was our midterm and final. the whole class is spent listening to him talk over a powerpoint while you take notes.
Professor Moiles gets very sidetracked in his lectures and it's hard to focus on what you need to know for the exam. He also expects you to know way too much for the exam that ends up not being on the exam. He is also very disorganized, we never did our group project or any assignments we were supposed to be given.
Class of constant talking no assignments no extra credit all exams.
Professor Moiles is a really nice guy but he's not a very good teacher. He tends to ramble A LOT. Was behind the syllabus for most of the semester and we ended up getting rid of a group project we were meant to do. I remember zoning out in class often because he would just keep talking about the same topic over and over again. Read the textbook.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I am currently in his class right now and he just rans about stuff and never get through the lectures. We were suppose to do a lot in this class like group presentation, map quizzes, reading quizzes, midterm, and final, but your grade will rely on map quizzes, and both midterm and final exams. He is a bad teacher. Good person,
Professor Moiles is a great guy. He means very well, and is fun to talk to. However, as a professor he is not the best. The class is based on four grades - Mid term, final, paper, and map quizzes. Attendance is not mandatory, and he lectures the entire time which can be a little boring. We were suppose to have a group project which we never did.
He only grades based on the midterm, final, map quizzes, and participation. I didn't even know the material, so I had no input for the lectures, so he marked me down on my participation like crazy. He is very flustering when it comes to grading. If you don't write in his words, he will likely mark you down a lot.
Moiles is a sweet guy, but his lectures were boring and right from the textbook. He gets distracted & goes on tangents often. You'll do well if you just do the reading & fill out the study guides for exams. He is a tough grader with very few grades, so make sure to study hard for exams & email him about short answer questions you're confused about.
I gave him a 2 because he is so nice and passionate, but as a professor, I could not dislike him more. He rambles on side topics for up to 45 min, doesn't grade assignments and neglects the syllabus for his own interests that day. Your money will be wasted, and you will be graded on a couple of exams that wont be entered until the last possible day
He's nice, but I've never had a professor so unable to manage the time of the class. He spends too much time rambling and going too far into detail and we were behind the syllabus schedule by the second week of class. 45 minutes would be him rambling, and the rest was rushing through everything else. Very few grades, unorganized, I don't recommend.
The professor himself is a nice guy. The issue comes from poor time management in the lectures. He has decently long slides and gets through a few per lecture. He assigns readings to which are not needed. Also had a group project he voided due to lack of time. The only grades that matter are the midterm which he usually crams a lot.
Professor Moiles is a very nice guy but he is just not a good professor. He tends to ramble a lot in class and doesn't get through any slides. Your grade is determined by a few things, especially exams. He also does not put grades into the gradebook so you don't even know where you stand in terms of grades. Beware!!
Roger Moiles is the worst professor I have had so far. Your entire grade is based on 3 exams, and 2 papers which he throws at you during the last 2 weeks of class. There is also a so-called participation grade that may or may not exist, he doesn't post it so you have no idea what it is. He rambles during lectures, so you dont get through everything
Very kind prof but very boring/difficult teaching style. Almost no homework all sem except for weekly quizes but three weeks before finals he assigned a large essay based on knowledge of lecture topics. If you are comprehending the material definitely talk to him in office hours but your success in the course depends on lecture comprehension.
Professor Moiles is such a nice guy but that is the extent of a good rating. His class is boring and all he does is talk and ramble on every lecture and I dreaded going to his class. Your whole grade is pretty much dependent on two tests the whole semester which is frustrating because it puts so much pressure on you to do well. Wouldn't take again.
Worse lectures I've sat through, speaks as if he doesn't know other people are here, stares at the wall for the entire class and doesn't address students, rambles for the full time of the class and never finishes in time. Hes an extremely nice guy but that's where the good ends. Very few grades in the gradebook.
Nice guy, he is clearly passionate about what he teaches. He's a yapper but overall good class. Few tests with no other assignments but as long as you show up to class every now and again and do the readings you should be good. He is a pretty generous grader.
Barely accessible outside of class, and NEVER responded to emails. We had 2 exams and 1 paper (plus a few map quizzes that barely related to the class), so if you don't do well on one of those, be prepared to not do well in the class. Rambles a lot (but that's what he grades on, so you better listen up!), and gets behind on the syllabus. Don't take
Professor Moiles is a nice guy, but his teaching style can be quite dry and disorganized. The class relies heavily on midterms and finals, so prep with tools like Unstuck study, ChatGPT, and the free textbook to succeed.
I would not recommend this professor at all. He rambles nonstop about off topic things and is very confusing for the entire class. He grades based on 2 exams throughout the semester and maybe a paper. Does not offer any kind of extra homework or EC assignments. He continues to talk even after the class has ended which you are expected to listen to.

-DOESN'T answer emails -Grade based on 3 exams, crammed in 2 essays the last two weeks of the semester. -Just yaps about unrelated topics and then expects you to teach yourself the material that's on the exam. -Very open about his political party stance -Didn't do homework or extra credit. -Doesn't follow the syllabus -Don't take his class
There's only 3 exams that make your grade and he is very slow at grading and you don't know your actual grade until the week of finals.
He was really bad at grading things on time and was a really tough grader. He didn't give us back our first exam until a month later. For our second exam grade he kept telling us he was going to update it and give us our physical copies however I did not get the grade back until the day of the last exam.
very nice guy dont get me wrong, was really understanding and respectful when I had some family issues going on. Tends to get off track of notes with other information easily. talks all class so for me it was hard to keep my attention. personally i thought the exams were difficult and the reviews were different compared to past classes ive taken.
Prof Moiles was a really nice person in general, but honestly not a very good lecturer. You can tell he cares and is knowledgeable about the subject, but if you can't pay attention for long then it's hard to follow. The class can be interesting, esp when he's talking about world news, but also boring at times. Bonus is the textbook is free
Syllabus doesn't match the class. Grades very hard and takes a very long time to grade. Will not email you no matter how many times you email him. My class came together as a whole to talk about how bad he is. I love politics and he made me not like it as much lol. Such little work load your grade is almost solely dependent on 3 exams. Nice guy tho
This is by far one of the worst professors I have ever had. There was only 16 total final grades in the class however not once did I know my weighted grade. There wasn't a single grade entered until 7 weeks, and the only grades are tests/quizzes. He doesn't reply to emails and get extremely off course in class talking about politics. Terrible class
Takes forever to grade anything, does minimum work as a teacher and not helpful at all.
This class was not enjoyable. The professor often got off topic which put us weeks behind. He had very few grades in the class so if you do bad on one assignment you're screwed. Participation is expected, however the class style doesn't allow for much participation. I will never take him again.
