Incredibly disrespectful and not a bit helpful. Very unapproachable, yet expects you to meet with him every time you turn something in. Worst professor I have had by far.
Horrible teacher
By far one of the hardest profs. I have ever had. Lecture is only him talking, no power-points or written notes. He expects you to know the material like you are going to be a lawyer. Highly unapproachable yet expects you to come see him if you want to pass the exams.
WORST professor in my college career. He excepts you to have immaculate spelling and grammar when he doesn't use it himself. He lectures the entire class period without notes or power points and expects you to understand the material and do your assignments as a lawyer would. If you expect a good grade you have to go to his office hours weekly.
Terribly confusing exams and weekly assignments. Oftentimes there would be no clear question to answer. Awful grammar, yet expects you to be perfect. Does upload PowerPoints and comments on material, which is somewhat helpful. Expect to go to his office hours a lot. Email him until he says you are right, but don't guess. That's the only way to pass
He was very rude and uninterested in teaching the class or helping students. When answering questions, he would be very vague and not helpful at all. His tests and assignments were very hard to understand and get correct. Very unapproachable and intimidating to talk to about your issues. Would not recommend him to ANYBODY, very bad teacher.
Very rude and unapproachable. If you ask him for help he makes you feel stupid. His homework is extremely unclear. He grades things without explanations and is unwilling to talk to you about your grade. Overall, horrible teacher and extremely mean and rude. AVOID at all costs.
He uses no visual aids all he does is lecture. Most of the time you are really not sure what he is talking about. The "exams" are papers that he expects you to be a lawyer to complete (even then I feel you would struggle). He makes you feel stupid for not knowing the material. Wish I would have taken this class with a different professor.
GREAT professor! I have been to his office at least 10 times this semester. He wants you to be prepared when you talk to him,but is very willing to help.He will cover every "issue" that he will ask on the exam. All you have to do is listen.
Even though Roger seems intimidating in lectures, you'll find that he is a really helpful and intelligent guy once you muster the courage to talk him in his office. He expects you to fully understand the topic to earn an A. I grew to respect him for keeping BLAW challenging, but attainable to get a good grade.
Just talks during lectures, no visual aid. Makes you feel stupid most of the time and his projects are not clear at all
Roger was totally unorganized and wasn't much help. Lectures were super boring and consisted of him just reading out of the textbook. A lot of difficult assignments that he expects you to do a full legal analysis of. However, he did curve to the highest score in the class which was a lifesaver; I should have gotten a D and ended up with an A-.
STAY AWAY! Worst prof I have ever experienced. He's a intelligent lawyer, but a terrible teacher. Assignment instructions look like they were written by a middle schooler. Asking for help is not an option as he is extremely unapproachable. Communication is terrible and he is very rude. I'm disappointed UMD let him be a part of my education.
STAY AWAY. This teacher is absolutely terrible. His lectures are long winded, very technical, and not helpful in the slightest. The grading is mostly based off group projects which a third grader could pass, but his exams require hours of preparation to get a passing grade. E-mails asking for clarification are met with 1-3 word answers. He's Awful
Little rough around the edges at first. You might hate him at first, but he's a guy you warm up to. He assigns group projects almost weekly. Survival relies on your group. He does offer feedback on assignments, but it is often blunt or makes you feel dumb. Does grade on a curve so the class is in it together. Lectures are sometimes interesting.
Was not a fan of Roger. None of his instructions were clear. In lecture him and 3 other students would talk back and forth leaving me no clue what was going on so I stopped going to lecture. He asks for your opinion then tells you its wrong. I would not take him if you have the option.
He's smart, really smart, which makes explaining things at a "I've never taken a law class ever" level difficult. He assigns a lot of group projects, but will accommodate you if you have a terrible partner who doesn't help. He also curves the total grade of the class (not each assignment), which is really helpful.
Seems unbearable and disorganized at first, once you get used to him (which you will) the class becomes simple. Group projects weekly, easy to over think them but they aren't complicated. Go talk to him for even 5 min and he'll lead you to the answer. NO TESTS! 1 -2 test take home online. Lectures are interesting, not necessary to attend. Easy A.
Most unorganized professor I have ever had. Posts a schedule one week and changes it the next. He gets frustrated when students do bad on group projects, but doesn't state clear instructions for the projects. No tests because he couldn't work the MindTap system that he made us purchase but haven't used all semester. Not approachable and often rude.
No tests just weekly group projects which if you have a good group only take about and hour each week.
This professor was okay. A lot of the time he was confusing with project guidelines and would not give feedback. Also he was sometimes very condescending and rude to other students when answering questions. Luckily this class grades on a curve so it's pretty hard to fail. As long as you have a good group for group projects you'll do just fine.
People don't like him because he's often not clear with directions until after assignments are graded. But if you see him during office hours or email him, he will give you the advice needed.
Oh Roger. Lectures are boring, but there are no exams, only group projects. You might think that sounds easy, but they involve a lot of time. You have one group for the entire semester, so you'd better hope you get a good one. He'll check your projects before they're due but doesn't give very good feedback. You can usually argue your points back.
Worst teacher I have ever had, he's smart but has no right to be a teacher. Horrible email etiquette and very rude to everyone. Assigns tests for a number of points that makes no sense and have no basis. Whole class is only tests which require you to do something that you will never ever need to do IRAC. Unless you are a law student.
Condescending to students with expectations on projects he doesn't explain but because one or two students understand it he will turn around and claim no one else understood his readings. Emailed him for help at the begining of the year but stopped once i realized if I didn't understand he would just say I didn't do the readings which I always did.
Roger is a very old school teacher. He gives you many assignments, with completely unclear directions, and then when you ask a question..... wait don't ask any questions because he will just criticize you and tell you how easy it is. On top of his unclear assignments, his grading is tough. 10 out of 10 would strongly not recommend.
Roger's assignments are often really vague and he is a super picky grader. I found that emailing him assignments or going to his office hours to get feedback on assignments before submitting them was the best way to make sure I was going to get points for everything.
A lot of his Homework assignments had one answer and that answer was in his mind only. If you did not answer what he was thinking, you automatically got it wrong. Not all of his assignments were like that, but most of them were.
Horrible. The assignments don't make any sense so your left stuck guessing on what you are supposed to do. There is a project every other day so you don't get any time do work on your other classes. Reading the chapters takes several hours as well and you will have to read one chapter a week.
His lectures were okay but he doesn't use power points, he just talks, makes it hard to take notes. Biggest plus was no exams but everything else was extremely hard. Some papers where more "opinion" papers and for one, his grading comment for me was "I did not care for what you had to say" and gave me 10 points off. Really do not recommend
I do not recommend him, very unapproachable. Sends very rude email responses if you ask a question or will respond "its in the syllabus". Has a project due once or twice a week, along with mindtap assignments. Lectures were pretty bad, No powerpoints to take notes with, just stands in the front and talks for an hour.
I would have loved this class with any other professor. Really cool subject, really terrible teacher. Rude to his students in class. Either not helpful at all during office hours or randomly gives the answers. No clear grading, no helpful feedback, and quizzes were difficult because what he teaches can get very vague. Avoid him at all costs.
I got A from his class. But I guess he is not a good teacher; I would say so-so. If you try your best, you will get good scores on the exams. You can see the other rates saying that he is rude, and I agree with that. But if you talk to him personally, he is a good man. He just might not know how to treat others nicely.
If you don't answer the homework assignments to the exact specification of how he wants it, you'll fail the assignment, there's no leeway for opinions on interpretation, he is right and you are wrong. He over-complicates the explanations of how to do the homework. The material is easy but he is overbearing and makes learning more difficult
Definitely the worst teacher at UMD. He is rude to his students. He's right, your wrong, get used to it. Not a bad class but I wish I took it any other teacher. he's a very tough grader, even if you wrote exactly what he said to right. He wants you to answer his questions in a specific way and if you don't you will get an F.
The worst professor I have ever had. He stands up front and reads out of the book, not adding any other explanation. Sometimes he gives examples, but no one can follow the story because there is so many unnecessary additions. Tests are impossible, questions are often 4 paragraphs each. Expects us to have a high level understanding of new concepts.
Very condescending to his students. Because the class averages were high on his multiple choice exams, he decided to switch to essay exams to lower the classes grades. Average scores dropped to F's on the tests and he blamed the students for not being professional enough.
He gives a lot of projects that have very wordy directions so it is hard to figure out what your are supposed to do. I always went to class and on a lot of the projects he put in the feedback that I would have know the answer if I went to class. In all his emails he would make me feel stupid so I did not feel comfortable asking questions.
Roger was the worst teacher I have ever had at any level of schooling since Kindergarten, and I got a pretty easy A in the class.
If you are willing to go to class and simply take notes, you will do fine in Roger's class. From my experience, he wasn't too hard of a grader. Basically, just read the textbook to get a basic understanding of the material and you will pass his class. A very self-taught class, but it is not difficult.
Roger is your classic pain in the butt. His projects are unruly and difficult to understand. I put more work into the projects than the points are worth and still get torn a new one for a small error. Class is boring and uneventful (basically useless) however sometimes he gives extra credit for going.
This guy is straight up The. Worst. Professor. On. Campus. He has some sort of ego issue to where if you dont show up to his lectures that arent even helpful that you dont know anything and are stupid. He picks favorites to grade leniently. If you dont understand something shoulda come to class. Poor assignment wording. His way or the highway
Lectures are pointless and just rambles on and on about nothing, I stopped showing up. He grades incredibly hard on the projects and his feedback in just plain rude, not helpful. No extra credit unless you show up for class and he takes attendance which is rare. Most Mindtap assignment answers can be found on quizlet. Goodluck.
Don't know if it's because it's the end of the semester: Went to lecture at 8:00, sat down, Prof. said "Thanks for coming, have a nice life" then left at 8:10. Pretty much sums it up.
His lectures are fairly interesting but he just gives out a ton of daily homework and you will have to read the online book to understand the concepts for the test.
Roger was a little bit intimidating at first but he is my favorite professor at UMD. He had really good lectures and storys that reflected what we read and the homework we had to do. There are only a couple tests and they are online. If you do the homework and ask him for feedback you'll have a good semester.
Not sure why the ratings are so bad. Everyone is complaining about reading the textbook and a lot of homework but hello, isn't this college?? The class is one of the easiest in the business school. Student laziness is the root of the bad rep and there is nothing wrong with this professor because he actually teaches you what is important.
This class is a lot of writing. It also requires you to put in some work. FOLLOW the clear guidelines. He lectures on and on and on often not relating but sometimes he says stuff that very essential and helpful. So while attendance is not mandatory I would recommend. Also, he seems to get a bad rep. He's a good guy that just likes to talk a lot.
This was the hardest B+ I've ever had to work for, his assignment rubrics make zero sense, and in my class, there was 8 projects before the midterm, not including other online homework. Lectures are stale and slow too. Take Roger at your own risk.
He comes off as a bit of a jerk in the beginning but I think he's a nice enough guy. That being said, his lectures were really kind of worthless. I would have stopped showing up for them but he occasionally gives extra credit for attendance. There aren't any exams but there's at least a project a week and they are often confusing and writing heavy.
I didn't even have Roger as a professor, but I have some words. I emailed him the second week of the new semester to see if I could possibly be put into his BLAW class because I had just switched my major. His response was, "No, its full." How professional!! The reviews don't surprise me one bit.
The only assignments/exams in this class were all able to be completed in groups. You could email him before it was due and he would provide feedback so you knew what you needed to fix. He curves the class at the end to the highest grade so an 96% would be 100% and everyone else would be bumped up 4%.
Very tough class. He doesn't give us a clear direction. Not recommended.
Professors like these made me realize that I'm not a student, I'm a CUSTOMER! TAKE MY MONEY UMD.
Roger at first seems very rigid and hard to get along with, but if you put the effort in to talk to him, he becomes much more lenient. He definitely grades hard, but gives good feedback when he does. The projects aren't overly difficult, but there's just a lot of them. I wouldn't take him again if I had a choice, but if I HAD to, I wouldn't mind.
I don't know why he gets so much hate, I actually really enjoyed him as a professor. He just has been teaching forever and has dealt with a bunch of nonsense from kids. He lays out what he wants clearly and I would take him again for sure. Best piece of advice, just email him questions and form a relationship with him, he is very nice!
If you actually want to learn and enjoy your time, find another professor. He teaches straight out the book with no power points. You sit in his class and listen to him talk. HW is easy but is formatted terribly. He is a "look in the syllabus" type of prof. He kinda hands out A's without much feedback. He is only in it for the money not for the joy
Most unorganized professor at UMD. Assignments are hard to understand and very unorganized. He assigns "projects" 2 times a week and they are basically really long papers, I end up writing usually 12 pages a week. He assigns work at midnight the day before without mentioning anything. He also has additional online assignments on top of everything.
What to expect: 1-3 papers due a week, each must be several pages, he will say he offers feedback but when you ask he'll respond "3 is wrong"... that's it, and on a separate assignment he didn't even respond despite sending it 2 days before the feedback deadline, pointless lectures, not a hard grader, but you'll never know if you're doing it right
If you like verbal lectures, and only verbal lectures (no PowerPoints or any use of a screen/technology from the instructor), then this class is for you. If you also want to become a lawyer, this class is for you. It is a in-depth analysis of the law. Expect a lot of writing and essays about legal issues at least each week. Many are complex.
One of the best professors I have had so far and I'm in my senior year. Currently taking my second class with him. If you take Roger, be ready to put in the work. It's nothing too crazy. Show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework. He's super accessible outside of class as well and really understanding. I have the utmost respect for Roger.
Give no partial credit, either you got it all right or you get a 0. Worst teacher ive ever had. Some feedback he likes to give on assignments is that he gave the same example in class as if you remember everything he says...
Insane amount of long assignments that didn't have much to do with the content we were reading. Tests are not really tests, just papers written on the subject being learned.
He is very unorganized and doesn't explain what he is expecting from the assignments. He doesn't explain why things are incorrect he'll just say this one is wrong and move on. He only gives you a couple of days to do 80 point assignments and other high-point assignments. I recommend taking this class but not with this professor.
I took one of his classes two years ago and he is still by far the worst professor I ever had. Everytime I emailed him he gave me a mean respond about how I wasnt putting enough effort into class and reading and even wrote me an entire paragraph on my effort after I asked a simple question on a grade. If you can stay away from him you should.
he lazy and his directions are terrible
He has to have tenure because I genuinely don’t know how he hasn’t been fired yet. This man is a horrible human being and I’m being serious. The way he INSULTS students intelligence is beyond me. His criticisms are not constructive, and they’re just plain rude. As an teacher you should be eager to help your students thrive and learn.
By far the worst professor or teacher I have ever had. His methods of teaching are unbearable and he is extremely rude. We had to do MindTap assignments throughout the year and he claimed that it was fair because it was in the syllabus but lots of people didn't know they were mandatory because all of his assignments are in the same area.
Taking BLAW online because of schedule conflicts and the least I can say is that it's worth waiting a semester to get into a class not taught by Reinsch. Be prepared to spend multiple hours on each assignment, which are only worth small percentages of your grade. For the time and energy put into this class, it should be worth 6 credits at least.
I have only been in his class for a week so far I have spent over 24 hours on homework for this class alone and I only see that number increasing. Stay away from him at all costs unless you like loosing sleep over your grade. Overall I wish would've taken this class with a different professor. 100% made me think about dropping out of college.
It is an extremely unreasonable amount of work for a three credit class, I spend more time on this class than my other three combined. He is rude, doesn't provide feedback, and the assignments are long and confusing. Most of the assignments have nothing to do with the material. Do not this class with Roger.
One of the posts said he is nice and you just have to form a connection with him but that's hard to do when he's just rude to you all the time, in person and through email. He gives no feedback and assumes your wrong when you question his grading. Professors are here to help you learn not talk at you and tell you everything you do is wrong.
Roger is a professor that will prepare you for life in the business world. He is difficult, and you should prepare yourself for a lot of hard work in this class. There is another professor that teaches BLAW that is not as hard and makes the class a lot easier. BLAW with Roger has taught me a lot about hard work and has lead to a great expirence.
Does lectures that have literally nothing to do with anything. Then when you obviously dont understand the assignments and email him; homie literally said "well everyone else gets it and is doing well so I dont understand why you dont get it." LITERALLY WHAT????
Roger's lectures are extremely difficult to follow. It's hard to know what to take notes on as there are no visual aids - no writing on the boards, no slideshows, nothing - he's sits at the front and speaks. There is no direction on how to tackle the assignments, you are thrown in blind. You'll know if you did it right after it's graded.
He really not that bad. Go to class and ask question's. He lets you work in groups, so 3 of you can submit the same thing.
You need to go to his in-person office hours if you want an A. He is very helpful during those. Most students don't like him because he doesn't hold your hand and is very blunt. Personally, I think he is one of the best professors at UMD!
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES BY HIM, I worked so hard and put so many hours into this class and barely passed, his papers are insane, back to back to back all semester, and then he opens and closes the homework on the same day without any announcements which makes his assignments very easy to miss
Very difficult professor to get along with. His feedback was very unprofessional and personal if you got some minor details wrong. The lectures were a sloppy mess and hard to follow. The timing of his assignments and grading leaves much to be desired as well, as there was no coherent schedule. Just a messy experience all around.
He accused my first paper of being plagiarized; not knowing my writing & no evidence. I had to show him the screenshots of my Google edits to prove I didn't plagiarize. Once he realized I didn't, he apologized but I couldn't keep doing 4/5 hours of work each night for 3 credits. In syllabus week alone, I think I wrote 12 pages in papers.
If you take his classes GO TO CLASS. He reviews cases that relate to cases he uses in his “exams.” If you show up and pay attention you will do fine. You are only graded on said “exams” that function more like assignments. You are allowed to submit those exams to him for feedback before being graded.
For BLAW 2001. Roger isn't the worst professor just a lot of work and comes off condescending some of the time. No tests just a lot of reading and watching videos.
I took this course online and even with that, any emails or message responses were always rude and condescending. Often 2-3 assignments per week, sometimes up to 30 questions long with most being several paragraph responses. LOTS of work, you'll need hours and days open to complete it. Some due during breaks which is extremely annoying.
He gives a lot of homework, and you need to spend a lot of time on it to fully understand it and get a good grade. He is sometimes very challenging with his grading, but other times it seems like he just gave me 100% for completion. Just make sure you know all the due dates, and double-check your work when he asks closed-ended questions.
Roger is a very stern man. I had him during COVID so I only communicated via email. Roger does not endorse the idea of, "there are no stupid questions". He is very blunt and direct when it comes to questions as well, so be prepared for that. Overall, as the semester goes on he opens up. I learned a lot, but would not take him again unless necessary
My friend took this class and he was very stressed over it. Which I do not agree with. No one disrespects my friends!!!!!! Do not recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is very very informational. He knows what he is taking about. Go to lectures and spend time on the assignments "Exams" and you'll do just fine. This was a pretty easy course and you'll actually learn some good informational things!
