I graduated a while ago, but this professor's interesting insights, fun comments and amiability remain in my mind. Take him for any classes you can!
I graduated but this guy was one of my favorite teachers. Learn a thing or two about Bruce Springsteen before class and you'll do just fine!
fairly easy, lots of fuzzy abstract stuff, LOVES Springsteen. be prepared to write a lot, reaction papers for everything. nice guy, talks too much.
Very enthusiastic teacher, its a good thing to participiate in his class, do reaction papers, and know format for MLA when writing research paper. He's pretty clear regarding what he expects, fulfill those requirements!
He's very excited everyday! If you enjoy hearing about his life he is a great teacher. very enjoyable makes everyone laugh
Comp II, Comp III, and Film. LOVED this teacher. Easy class. Just do reactions, just ramble and you get credit. He talks a lot about his family and Bruce Springsteen. He loves to interact with the class and has a good sense of humor. I think he is cute! :) Hardest part was Hamlet, Comp III.
Deep thinker, very smart, interesting, great guy. He just makes it easy. St. Johns is lucky to some fine teachers.
Very good teacher. Really easy to talk to and deal with, not to mention he is very fair and understanding. If you're going to take a Comp prof take Vaccaro not Crocker.
Mr. Vaccaro is an awesome teacher! He made learning fun and I genuinely looked forward to each class.
He's quite honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. I couldn't imagine a better english professor.
The best. Fun lectures and reasonable grading. Take him if you can.
he's a great teacher, and a great guy as well, makes learning fun, and I really enjoyed taking his course
He's a great guy and all but he has a tendency to go off on a tangent every once in a while during class (foot ball, kids, etc). Very generous with grades on papers...just study hard for tests (be ready for surprises), and it'll be a breeze.
awesome, just awesome.
He is a really good teacher and very helpful! I would recommend anyone take him! He explains everything until everyone understands it!
He is my favorite teacher. He gives us the opportunity to retake tests when we bomb them! He takes about his personal life alot, but it's always interesting. Take him at all costs!
Awesome teacher with a great personality! He's really on top of his stuff and is very helpful. I loved his class. Read the stories 'cause there WILL be a quiz on it!
Awesome guy! He's funny, interesting, and helpful. He spells out what he wants from you on every assignment and then will help you out as much as he can after that. READ the stories!!! If you don't read the stories it will make it VERY hard on you because the course builds on itself. This professor is HIGHLY recommended all over campus by everyone!
He's a great guy, and he's funny. It's a very relaxed feeling in his class, but it's not as easy as people claim it is. His Hamlet test is really tough. I read Hamlet 3 times and still only knew 7 of 14 quotes. Luckily you only have to choose 6. Overall, I enjoyed taking his class, and I recommend him to future students.
GREAT teacher! Loved his class! Took him for comp 1,2,3 and got 2 A's for I/II and 'B' for I. Poetry final in Comp III was the hardest test because it was ID-ing short excerpts from poems. Watch movie for Hamlet final, helps A LOT. Skimmed Hamlet for final and got an 'A'. A really funny guy and I wish he taught more English classes at SJRCC!
Vaccaro took six weeks to grade the first essay, and tended to drone on about basketball and his attractive spawn. His monologue was so relentless, I couldn't get a sarcastic remark in edgewise. Other than that, the class was good.
Vaccaro gives a feeling of having nothing else to do in the world. He is a man's man. I didn't like that very much since I am a woman and I didn't feel a part of many topics, although he is very likeable. I get the feeling he is very unorganized because he takes sooooo long to get our assignments returned to us. I would highly recomend Vaccaro.
Mr. Vaccaro is a wonderful, imagination-stirring, and level-headed professor. If I take any more English classes I will revolve my classes around his class. I am in one of his classes again and I know what to expect from him and that is comforting. He expects his students to attend class and to do the work assigned. He keeps the class very inte
fun class
Mr. Vaccaro is probably one of the best instructors I’ve ever had. His classes are interesting, intellectual, and extremely fascinating. He also is very understanding when it comes to late work under difficult circumstances. I highly recommend him for any English class. Also, memorize Hamlet for Intro to Literature.
Mr. Vaccaro is one of my favorite professors, he is very understanding and helpful, he makes my other professors look kind of bad because of how textbook strict and unreasonable they are. He does talk a little too much, but i'd rather him chatter on than lecture me to death.
Mr. Vaccaro is one of the best teacher's I have ever had. I took Comp II and III with him as well as Film class. He cares about his students and is very understanding. He grades fairly and honestly. I cannot see how a person can fail one of his classes if they do all of the assigned work. Take him for all ENG class no matter what! He is awesome!!
Excellent Teacher.
Mr. Vaccaro is a great teacher and person. He's very funny and approachable, which makes class something to look forward to.:) You will not regret choosing one of his classes!
i loved his classes!!! i had him for both comp I and II and am looking forward to taking him for lit as well. if you work on the assignments, you'll definitely get an A! i loved, loved, loved him!!! :D
I really liked Vaccaro and took him for Comp 1 and about to take him for Comp 2. It seemed like time flew by in there. He does talk a lot about family and random things, but he was always funny and enjoyable. Would recommend him for anyone else.
I had Vaccaro for 3 comp classes, he is high energy, funny, fair, and helpful. I always recommend his classes. I'd say his classes can be a challenge but I now feel like a more capable writer...if you get an A you have learned something and you have earned it.
He is awesome. Highly recommende for international students. Very Helpful.
Never took a formal comp class in middle and HS. Severly ADD-type1. Other teachers left me behind, he helped me throughout the course. Liked him alot. Very passionate about teaching.
Excellent teacher. Emphasizes grammar for Comp. 1. Gives alot of quizzes, so learn grammar. It's important and he strongly believes in it. Very fair grades on comp. papers. He's extremely interesting and funny...so that helps. You'll enjoy his class!
Amazing teacher
He assigns alot of reading. You get a REALLY easy quiz then he talks about what you read. End of class. You write reaction papers to only 10 readings and he does not care if they are types as long as there about 200 words. He is a REALLY cool teacher. I also have him for Film as a Narative Art and all we do is watch movies.
Mr. Vacarro should be the considered the ideal teacher for anyone interesting in writing or in his movie class. He instills the desire to learn more and take on challenges that one wouldn't normally consider. I wonder why he isn't on a higher level of education, his professionlism and desire to share what he has is extrodinary.
I was completely ignorant to literature before taking Vaccaro's class. He teaches with hilarious insight and makes you interested in things that you had no idea you were interested in before. I took him for Comp 2, Lit., and intro to film. He's one of those rare teachers who makes you look forward to coming to class. A must-take teacher for sure.
AWESOME TEACHER! LOVED him SOOOO much! Taking him for Comp II! Couldn't ask for a better teacher!!!!! LOVE going to class and hated it if I ever had to miss! TAKE HIM!!!!!!
He is awesome. I hope to take another one of his classes. Fun class.
Great teacher! Would recommend him anytime!
Fun lectures. Strong feedback on papers. Pleasure to attend his class.
Pretty easy class, attend and do all assignments and you should be good. He likes to talk A LOT and tells stories that have nothing to do with the topic but the stories are normally enjoyable. Class feels like it drags but he does leave feedback to your papers and does care about his students. Good teacher overall.
Awesome Teacher! Passionate about his job and loves telling stories. Most of the time the stories are entertaining and he always has a purpose for telling them. He loves his family and you can tell because he always talks about them. He has a great sense of humor and he's just a great all around teacher. I'd recommend him to anyone!
I was there for Mr. Vacarro's debut on the old St. Aug. campus...what a breath of fresh air from the dingbat I had for Comp I. He returned papers quickly, with lots of helpful feedback. My degree only required 2 semesters of English, but I took 4 simply because Mr. Vacarro made it so interesting. He appreciates a logical, well-written paper.
Great teacher, though he does tend to ramble a bit. Clear and logical writing is expected for a good grade. I recommend getting "Reaction Papers" done as early as possible. Also be prepared for lots of talk about sports and his kids, though it does often tie back into the lecture.
Dr. Vaccaro is wonderful. Has great stories and makes learning fun! Attend class and get writing assignments done on time. Diligently tries to make you a better writer by applying English usage of grammar, punctuation and spelling. Great instructor and wish we had more professors with his dedication. Attend class, do the work, and you will be fine.
He's a great teacher, i really didn't think i would like lit but he makes me not mind it
i hate english and writing papers but he treally made me enjoy the class. i like how he talks about sports nut also gives good details about our assignments. his handwritng is terrible but overall hes a great guy.
Mr. Vaccaro is an excellent professor! Very helpful and an extreme intellectual. Although he applies everything to the lecture and makes it fun to learn. TAKE HIM! Reading is important to him...if u like to read, he's your guy!
Amazing! Made me love english all the more. He's really kind and will be glad to help with anything you need. Also, bring him chips and salsa from Cabo to make him happy (:
Mr. Vaccaro is so nice and a great teacher! He's real understanding and very helpful. I took him for Comp 2, Intro to Lit, and Film as a Narrative Art. Very Happy I took him!!
took him for comp I and he was awesome. going to take him for comp 2 and literature. super teacher highly recommend.
He is great!
He teaches very clearly. He uses a story from his own past experience to help teach. Overall he is a great teacher and I am taking him again for Comp II
Mr. Vaccaro is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I feel like I learned so much from his Comp 1 class, but never felt overwhelmed. He's fair, nice, funny, and very likable. Take Mr. Vaccaro as much as you can.
Awesome teacher, loved to rant about irrevelant things though.
Amazing professor, very nice, funny, and helpful.
Great teacher! I was definitely not looking forward to this class especially 3hour classes in the summer term, but Mr. V made it really fun. I wish I could take every class with him.
Taking Mr. Vaccaro's class was possibly the best thing I had done this semester. He is a very funny man, and really wants his students to pass. He is very clear on what he teaches, & drops the two lowest quiz grades, and is not the kind who grade on how much he likes a student, but rather on the effort a student makes in his class!! He's the best!!
Good teacher. I was somewhat upset at the fact we didn't cover all the material in class regarding the final. It left me with not as much room as I wished to succeed, but all in all I got a good grade. Just wish it wasn't left to the last minute to review the expected material for the tests.
Mr. Vaccaro is a fantastic professor! I had him for two classes during the summer (3 hours long twice a week, each) and still never got tired of him. He requires a lot of writing and reading, but he never throws you any curve balls. The class is designed that if you do the work, you will pass the course. Great professor!
Mr. Vaccaro was an unbelievable teacher, and one of the reasons I chose to go to school for teaching. He is inspiring, relatable, hilarious, gives honest critique, and is really one of the best teachers I've ever had. Less kids would drop out of college if more teachers taught like Mr. Vaccaro. Hard content was always paired with help from him.
Mr. Vaccaro taught me more about grammar and writing in one semester than I learned in all of High School. He's undoubtedly the reason that I enjoyed my first semester of Freshman year so much.
I love Mr. Vaccaro. He is very insightful, and his lectures are more like philosophical discussions (although he is known to ramble a bit, it's good rambling). He grades extremely fairly and gives great feedback. He is also very approachable, funny, and intelligent. His classes really make you think, and we have some great topics. Great teacher!!
Great guy was a lot of fun and a great help
Fantastic teacher and a very likable, good-humored guy in general. I had my first college experience attending his summer composition 1 class and his way of managing things was so intuitive that it almost felt as though it were a workshop rather than a college class. I'm taking his composition 2 class next semester and look forward to it.
Mr. Vaccaro was a huge help in Comp I. His lectures are entertaining but educational, his tests aren't terribly hard, and he's a great guy. If you've never had trouble with writing, this class should be a breeze. In my opinion, he is the best Comp teacher at SJRSC.
Professor Vaccaro was one of the most amazing professors I had the pleasure of being instructed by at in college. I took him for five different classes and would have taken more if they were offered. His lectures are amazing- covering everything from insightful life lectures to deep and dark explanations of Hawthorne. Brilliant. Funny. Personable.
Excellent teacher. Very clear on what he wants, makes you work for an A. Understands what he is talking about although lectures can carry on a bit too long sometimes.
He knows a lot about his subject matter. He's funny, but sometimes goes off topic (all the time actually). Tons of reading, but thats what you get with a literature class. Read what he assigns you will do fine on the tests. An essay at the end of the test is required.. he doesn't count off for spelling or grammar (mostly). YOU NEED THE BOOKS.
As long as you listen, read what you are supposed to, and pay attention, you will do just fine. There are no hidden agendas, and everything is straight forward. This is a writing class, so yes, there are essays.
Great teacher. He loves to talk, but it usually helps on the test. This class does require a class presentation and he gave an A or B as long as you were prepared.
Awesome lectures, good feedback on writing assignments, overall great course.
Mr. Vaccaro is definitely one of my favorite professors. He's really funny and is very personable. He's passionate about his subject and he makes class very enjoyable! I would take one of his classes again in a heartbeat.
really cool and laid back, expects work to be in on time and for you to do the reading, pay attention and you'll pass
He wad an amazing professor.
Great professor. I would highly recommend him and wish i could have him for Comp II.
I previously took comp II with Prof. Vaccaro during the fall semester. He is an EXCELLENT professor. I really enjoyed his class. If you attend class and do the assignments, you will pass the class. He's very easy to communicate with, and he cares about his students. I am currently taking him for AML I.
He is nice and funny, but he is very boring most of the time. All he does is just talk the class time. Sometimes talks over the class time. Have a quiz every single day of class.
Mr. Vaccaro is passionate about American literature and about his students' success. He does not give much homework, just reading assignments, he is very understanding, he relates subject matter to real life scenarios so it is easy to understand. He teaches you skills in writing/grammar for future use in the real world. I've taken him for 3 classes
Professor Vaccaro is a great teacher, he likes to talk and it can bleed into the lecture's time limit, but he really cares about trying to get people to understand material. He tells anecdotal stories and relates things to people to try and have grammar rules stand out for quizzes. He's a great guy. Definitely the best teacher at SJRState, +++
Professor Vaccaro is a really cool teacher and really knows his stuff when it comes to English and literature. I have taken two classes with him and would take another if I could.
fave teacher on this entire campus. hands down. I've taken him for about 3-4 classes. he is understanding to those who don't like to do presentations. He doesn't have any aside from one in Comp 2. 10/10 recommend him as a professor. And he always has a funny story to tell!!
You write two papers and then your research paper, but they're worth 20-35% so don't miss one! He's is very fair when grading. No easy A's but B's are everywhere. Really work on that final research paper because he is pretty picky when it comes to that, for good reason! Double check your MLA format. Very great lectures that leave you laughing!
Professor Vaccaro is pretty much the only English professor that you should consider taking at SJRSC. I did not do as well as I had hoped in this class, but it is 100% my fault. He is hilarious, caring, and inspirational, but you will not get away with slacking in any way. Your grade DEFINITELY is a reflection of effort. This is not an easy A.
Very chill guy, gives good lectures, fair grading
Loved it
Mr. Vaccaro is hilarious, kind, and interesting. He makes even the more dull topics fun and thought provoking. I was always excited to hear his lectures. He is super intelligent and clearly passionate about what he teaches.
Mr. Vaccaro is one of the best professors/teachers I've had the pleasure of interacting with. His classes are reading heavy but he is the head of the English department so this is to be expected. He gives ample opportunity for you to get your grade up with reaction papers and in class quizzes. Do your work, be on time, and participate!
Mr Vaccaro (two C's, one R). I will never forget that! Mr Vaccaro is my absolute favorite Prof of my college experience. I took every class possible with him. He's not an easy A, but he's a great teacher and will keep you entertained.
He really makes learning fun, I loved his class and the way he teaches. His courses are not easy A's, but he will do everything he can to ensure that you succeed. I would highly recommend taking any course he is at the helm of.
He's very passionate and knowledgeable in literature which makes his lectures fun to listen to. 100% recommend him, If you do all the work assigned the way he tells you to you will pass.
Professor Vaccaro is an amazing teacher and made class interesting and fun. I took him for his Shakespeare class and he made Shakespeare very enjoyable. Be sure you read the plays beforehand because he tends to do a quiz on each of the readings at the beginning of class. He is an amazing teacher and just don't slack on his easy assignments.
Mr. Vaccaro was nice enough, but him and I seemed to butt heads a little. I can be very opinionated, and he would make it known he disagreed with me. Regardless, his assignments were relevant and helped prepare for the quizzes. He seemed a little on the unorganized side, but lectures were always interesting and entertaining.
Mr. Vacarro is a very kind, informative professor that actually cares about the subject and the students. Class is easy enough as long as you do the readings and the reaction papers. Funny, too! Take the Shakespeare, it's amazing and yet approachable for Shakespeare.
One of my favorite professors. Engaging lectures, you can tell that he really cares about the material. You will have to do some writing, but as long as you dont get behind and let it pile up, youll be fine.
One of the greatest literature professors I have ever had. Do the readings, go to class, and you will pass.
Professor Vaccaro made Shakespeare interesting! His enthusiasm for the topic was contagious and I really enjoyed the class. He does lecture for a while but it's worth it. We wrote short reaction papers for the main Shakespeare plays, had a midterm paper and a final on the last two plays. I highly recommend taking his class!
Professor Vaccaro is AMAZING. Hes a great professor and really gets you into the subject. His lectures are always fun and never boring. If youre looking for a good English professor, hes your guy.
Professor Vaccaro is an AMAZING professor! I took him for all three of my English credits . He makes class enjoyable and his thirty years of experience really shows. Even though Comp 1 has a lot of grammar quizzes, he teaches you exactly what is going to be on the quiz . Class roll call is required but if you miss he is willing to work with you.
Comp 2 is primarily reading and quizzes that he gives you. The papers were fun and even the research paper we had to do was made easy with professor Vaccaros helpful guidance. He gives quizzes on the reading but as long as you read whatever he tells you they are an easy A for your grade. His stories in Comp 2 are even better than Comp 1.
Mr Vaccaro is an awesome teacher I had him for Comp 2. He is willing to help and understanding. Emails back quickly. Very clear on what he expects of you and reminds you of deadlines all the time. He talks alot but is fairly entertaining. Also had him for shakespeare and would take him again.
Prof Vaccaro was an amazing teacher. I took his class online during COVID-19, and he was very quick to respond and gave good, clear instructions on everything and was very supportive and understanding. The only reason I got a B is because I was stupid and didn't take like 3 of the quizzes, but if you do everything an A is totally doable. 10/10!
I took every class that Professor Vaccaro offers. I'm currently a senior at UF studying pre-law; every time I write a paper, I'm thankful that I took my comp classes with him. There are a lot of papers and readings, but everything he assigns sets you up to succeed regardless of your major. He really cares about making you a better writer!
Professor Vaccaro is an absolute gem. He goes off on tangents a bit, but that's honestly the fun of his class. He's been my highlight of this school. This is a professor I would recommend for every English class offered.
Professor didn't teach the class, rather uploaded videos and readings to which you have to write responses. Professor was very clear on the requirements. Other than the responses and tests you will have two major papers to write. The class was easy along as you watched the videos. The test covered a bit more than the material provided at times.
SJR BEST PROFESSOR!!! Was taking him in-person for AML2010, then the pandemic hit, and we were all forced online. I was sad I couldn't go to his class, cause he was super interesting and funny. But the transition was so perfect with him and everything was so well organized I took him again online for ENL2330 and ENG2100. Must take professor! :)
I cant say enough good things. Amazing lecture. The quizzes are easy 10-20 questions if you pay attention you will pass. Really nice man who cares about what he teaches. Response papers (easy) and 3 main papers. Didnt use the textbook much.. he posts most of the reading on canvas. Very fair and easy if you put in effort. Would 100% take again.
He is the best teacher I have had! His teaching style is personal and story-based, yet functional and educational. He does a great job explaining grammar and his instructions are very clear. I would recommend him to everyone!
Professor Vaccaro was an amazing professor. He emails back fast and gives good feedback. He was one of my favorite professors. I wish I could take another course with him.
Read the designated pages for the week. I liked to also read summaries or cliff notes online before taking his tests. They are super easy if you read what he asks of you. Just take an hour each week to read, that's all. He hand grades your papers and he puts great thought into his critiques. Great teacher! I enjoyed taking his class!
Professor Vaccaro is an excellent professor who is very organized. His lectures are engaging and he is passionate about his subject. He makes such a difficult subject matter (Shakespeare) really understandable and interesting. Having taken his class I gained a great deal of appreciation for Shakespeare. I highly recommend that you take this class.
Genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed! He keeps class fun and informational at the same time. Great professor and person in general!
Super Easy Class, the first month the only writing hw is response papers that are at least 300 words based off poems and story we read, they're super easy. Not many papers, the only actual papers we did were a compare/contrast, persuasion, and then the final essay. The lectures are fun, he mostly tells stories related to what were learning, easy A.
Super Easy Class, the beginning was writing hw is 300-word response papers on poems and stories we read, pretty easy. 3 papers, a narrative, compare/contrast, and persuasion. The final is 2 parts, multiple choice and critic essay, The lectures are fine and he mostly tells stories, some are related to what we are learning and some aren't, easy A.
Overall great professor! It's an English class, so there are obviously quite a few writing assignments. However, the workload was very doable, and the reading material was quite interesting. He has lots of great stories to share in his lectures! Just do the response papers and study your grammar. Not a difficult class, would highly recommend!
Professor Vaccaro is very clear with his expectations, and an A is 100% achievable if you dedicate the time. There's no textbook, instead, he uploads documentaries and instructional videos to help with the weekly assigned responses, and his assignments are all just writing responses to the assigned plays. Overall, a great class.
This is my second class with him, but first online. It was easy basically for each play I would read a summary first bc he normally doesn't provide them. All you have to do is watch the videos he provides for each play, then write a 300+ response and take a test. Response is on videos, tests are on the plays, have a critique, final is 600+ essay.
I took Prof. Vaccaro online for American Lit. The readings were pretty easy. The exams are set up as matching quotes from a piece to its author. There are also reaction assignments for videos about the authors. Basically, you write 300 words about what you learned from the video. Overall, great class!
Affable professor. Fair grader. You will have to write something on the order of 5-7 papers, as it is an English class.
Mr. Vaccaro is a fun teacher. His lectures have many stories, and it helps you remember things for tests/quizzes. He genuinely cares about his students and he allows you to choose paper topics that you actually find interesting. My only critique is that he is a bit unorganized/takes a while to grade things. But other than that, I recommend him 100%
Professor Vaccaro's ENL2330 class is well-structured and manageable. With no textbook required, the focus is on watching videos and writing responses - a format that works well, especially with the help of tools like unstuck ai for study prep. An A is achievable for those who engage with the course material.
Very lecture heavy and sometimes is difficult to follow since the teacher will go off on tangents but does relate it all back so you will just have to bare with him a bit. There is always reading assigned for every class but test are very easy, essays on the other had is very hard and it is difficult to get an A but not impossible.
There is a lot of reading to a point where he had to cut down in the middle of the semester. He does use the textbook for a good amount of the readings so buying the book is a good investment. He will lecture about everything you read and jump from one idea to another so paying attention is necessary for notes if you take them.
