Mr. Ward is so nice even when you give him a wrong answer in class discussions he doesn't make you feel stupid. His class is easy as long as you can read. HE doesn't give homework!!!!!
His tests are id's and 2 essays. I thought they were hard but then again I never read the book but I always went to class...I made a C+ on most of the tests. Overall he's a good teacher and makes History interesting, just read if you want a good grade.
all exams are essays...he grades pretty hard! No homework but there are 2 papers! he is a really nice teacher! He doesn't have notes, he just talks and you write down everything!
Mr. Ward made the class interesting. Don't forget to keep taking notes though! I really enjoyed his class.
Mr. Ward gives excellent lectures that are very informative and interesting. His testing techniques are difficult. Students must be prepared to study up to 70 identifications for each test (when only about 8 of them will be on the test). 5 diffiult essays are listed on his handout and one is drawn from a bag for the whole class to do on test day.
he is VERY informative. if you listen to his lectures and take notes you could pass. but you have to read the book because he'll have pop quizzes over chapters you were supposed to read. you have to study pretty hard for his exams though, he's a really good teacher and very helpful if you have any questions.
He is a great teacher very willing to help you out. You must work hard to do good in his class though.
Great Prof. he is very interesting; lectures well, and he is always will to help you out. If you are really interested in history take his course.
lectures the whole class and in depth on every subject. Tests are VERY thorough and you have to have EVERYthing about it written down or wont get full credit. TESTS are ALL essays and if you are not a good essay taker and can not remember things well, do not take his course!!! i did not like it...
he is a great teacher very fair very very helpful even if your struggling which i assure you that if you come to class you wont but if you are struggling he will work with you. this is one of those classes where you actually leave the class learning something that sticks not where you forget. i would highly suggest taking his class! he makes it ver
good lectures. have to write a lot to pass the test b/c the test answers are from his lectures. need to read the bk to participate in class. he asks for class participation or will give a pop test. loves interaction in class. tests are essays. picks 1 0f 5 questions. Also have to learn 50 terms and only 8 on test.
Very good professor! His lectures are interesting, making you want to learn more! As long as you come to his class, pay attention (which isn't hard), and take notes, you should do very well in this class.
There is a lot of required reading in this class. I not only had to buy TWO textbooks, I also had to buy three novels. We were required to read everyone of them. You will be tested over your reading and you have to choose two of the books to write a paper about. The tests are very hard requiring you to write a lot. His is a good teacher though.
He is a really good professor....but he is tough. Hadnwritten exams, essay question and no multiple choice. I have learned alot from him. Attendance is impartive for success.
Class attendance is not mandatory. but affects grade slightly. Most information is given in class that will be on the test. All essays.
I dont know what everyone is talking about, he was absolutely ridiculous. took him for summer 2- crammed everything in a month, formal papers, hundreds of reading excerpts, 3 tests, and no extra credit. he expects you to be a debator, professor writer, historian, lawyer, and it is either his way or the highway
If you are not a big history buff and do not have spectacular memory DONT TAKE HIM!His test are all essay and he speaks too fast to write notes down in class, ALL lecture. It is mandatory for you to read three books, not including the textbook. You have to write a 5 page paper on one,and answer questions on the other.Very difficult for freshman!!!!!!
This is what college is about; yes his entire test are essays and there is a lot of reading required, pro. Ward is glad to help you, that’s what he’s there for. His lectures are very interesting; he loves history and wants his students to as well. Don’t expect a free ride in his class, or in any history class.
Extremely hard, a ridiculous amount of work for a 3 hour course, definately not worth it. Nice guy, smart, interesting, but you have to read 3 books not including the textbook, and tests are no multiple choice all short answer plus a short essay and a long essay. Don't take him unless your like a history finatic or something.
This class was hard but I learned a lot!! Tests are all essay and short answer and you'll need to read 3 books. Attendance is important. If you take good notes, you'll be prepared for the tests. Everything you need to know for the tests are in his lectures (all lecture). Mr. Ward is a great professor. He's clear and helpful. Highly recommended!
He is very smart and knowledgable about history. He talks the whole class, you can take notes over everything and do okay. I never bought the book and managed to pass the class. Be prepared to do a lot writing and make sure that you write properly. (indent your paragraphs & stuff) He expects a lot from you, but pay attention & learn vocab words
Extra reading in this class is way too extreme! Crazy, too much reading!! 3 extra books, plus the text?!! !! Come-on!! I am working and have a life! This was 1301 right? Wanted to learn, not be blown away!
If you love extra reading, then he is the teacher to take! He gives 4 novels out at the 1st of the semester and in that time you have to read those huge books! He is test are even harder he gives you a sheet of 60 key words to look up and know and he will only pick 10 of those for his test! Not only that his test have 2 huge essays to complete
OK, he is good as a prof. He knows his stuff. However, his exams requires you to read a whole lot. There are 4 paperworks that needs to be submitted and 1 presentation. But you need to get good grades on your tests too which are hard. Don't take his class esp. those who are working students!
He is not lenient at all....
TAKE THIS CLASS! This class is extremely hard, but you will leave a better person/student. He makes you read 3 novels, but they are all amazing, and I am now addicted to reading. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE ON BOOK REPORTS! YOU WILL GET CAUGHT! Several people got caught in my class. Tests are also hard, but if I can pass so can you.
If you want to do well and have a teacher who will work with you and not against you take roger Ward at the SpringCreek campus, his class is interactive and his lectures are not boring, lots of group discussion and basically enjoyable
My favorite history professor. Roger Ward's lectures are excellent and interesting - he includes extra details about events and people that make the course come alive. I also felt that he is fair and has fair exams that you can feel confident about what is on them. Highly reccomended.
Professor Ward's a great teacher! He is passionate and humorous. This is not a class for slackers. He expects you to think in a broad spectrum. You read 3 additional novels, write 4 papers, and do 1 research presentation. His tests are essays (no mult choice), but are fair. If you'll work, he's the one! I've never worked so hard for a B in my life.
Best teacher to take if you don't like history. He makes it so interesting and gives you all kinds of random facts about everything. He knows what he is talking about and it makes it easier to listen and pay attention. If you listen in class, the tests are pretty easy with a little studying.
He is great. I was not interested in history before I took his class but he made it so fun and very interesting. It feels like he is telling you a very interesting tale when he teaches. and the amazing thing is he covered the material so well with in 3weeks i don't think i will forget anything he thought me. I took him for an express class so we ge
He is a Fantastic lecturer. The class is very interesting. You need to go to class. There is outside reading but the books are short and pretty interesting. This is not a blow off class but you will enjoy it.
GREAT Professor and very understanding and sweet guy. I took sick this 2009 Fall semester and he was very understanding when it came to turning in my homework and making up TEST when needed. He also will have you to read 3 books and one article. I really enjoyed this course overall. :~)Mr. WARD Rocks!!! LOL
Awesome professor, a pleasure to listen to his lectures. The extra reading assignments are very interesting and easy to read. Lectures filled with extra interesting information, not from the text book, so coming to class is very important. Tests are not too hard, just require a good understanding of the subject, which if you listen you should have
Mr. Ward is very demanding of your time outside of the classroom. If you are working or taking other classes, he may not be the best choice, especially as a summer course. On a positive note, he is very interesting and a good speaker.
This was the worst class that I took. He reminded me of Gomer Pile. I would literally take pages and pages of TYPED notes and NONE of what I took notes on were on his tests. The tests are really long and detailed. You also have to write a huge essay with each. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone.
Alot of readings outside of class. Very good story teller...
Very Engaging, extremely helpful and insightful, and a great lecturer. MUST TAKE NOTES!
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK OR THE MYHISTORYKIT. i dont know if you guys will still be using it but it was 60 bucks out of my wallet. People say this class is a lot of reading but in the end i didn't read anything and still got an A. just have to go to class and take good notes. now they're using a new edition so i can't sell my books back! URGH
I think he is a good teacher but the homework outside of class is excesive. His tests are also very long and hard. The book is pretty much useless and he doesn't use any visual aids so it's pretty much the whole time listening to him. Take very good notes thats my only recommendation
Too much homework, hard tests and wants answers too specific.
Oh man! This guy gave us so much homework, essays, two book reviews, two research papers and the exams were all essay. I took three other classes at the same time as his and the homework for ALL of those THREE Classes combined were less than for just HIS one History class. Don't get me wrong, he knows so much and history, but geewiz its a lot.
he does not know how to teach. all he do in the class is talk. no power point or no information. in exam there will be 10 ids and 3 essay. don't take his class even if u r smart. i got recommend in TAKS test and i failed his stupid class. take dis class if u wanna lower your GPA.
Yes, you MUST take notes. He is an interesting speaker, but he does not spoon feed you. It's a college class, folks! If you sleep or miss a class make sure you get GOOD notes from someone else. Does not use PPT or overhead, but his lectures are full of interesting information.
Mr. Ward was an excellent teacher. His lectures were interesting and I actually liked not having another power point lecture. I learned so much more by not having the visual distraction, and just being able to listen and take good notes. I don't think I ever even opened the book and still got an A in the class. DO THE HOMEWORK! IT ISN'T HARD!
Honors class. Regret not taking him for 1302 H. All lectures, 2 books, 5 essays, 3 exams. Very informative, great speaker, awesome lecturer. Not too easy, not too hard. If you're interested in history, definitely take him.
He teaches with passion but the homework assignments, papers, books, and HARD tests (because he grades strictly) make his enthusiasm while teaching NOT worth it
No matter how much effort you put in their, how hard you study, he will try to find something wrong with your work. Tests are split between 1 short essay, 1 long essay, and 8 terms which you have to define with points that are significant. Basically meaning, he can count off on anything he wants. Do yourself a favor and just don't take him!
His lectures are like a story in a way, somewhat interesting, but his tests are very hard. He gives 60-70 terms to be memorized while only eight of them will be on the test. The test are in three sections: 8 "IDs" (terms), short essay, and full length essay. Not fully recommended.
tough grader.
Professor Ward is AN AMAZING lecturer, cares about the content. You WILL learn, but you need to read in order to understand and do well on the tests. His tests AREN'T mult. choice. There are 3 supplemental readings but all help with the content of the course and help with the 3 tests. Final NOT cumulative. Not a blow off class, but I enjoyed it.
Professor Ward is a VERY great teacher and cares about his students. Although, he was my hardest professor yet. His tests are extremely hard, so you MUST take notes and attend every class.
I am taking his online class. I have an associates degree already, and have never had so much homework in any other class. He is very passionate about history, but he needs to realize that its not everyone's major!!
I took his online history class. I've never had to stress so hard over a weekly quiz, midterm or final exam. He's a VERY tough grader and sometimes won't even give you a comment as to why he docked some points from your short answer questions. I would suggest only taking him if you really know your history stuff.
The toughest professor i have ever had. He is very nice and teaches well, however the exams and quizzes are so hard i was pulling my hair out. Very stressful and you have to study atleast four full days before each exam.
Excellent Prof but difficult tests-essay only=heart attack. Honors awesome, learned so much. Hardest class I've taken, but worth it! Take notes, read! don't miss class, think deep, write well (or make best friends with writing center) form study group=A. If you hate history and don't like earning your grade, NOT recommend. Great encourager, NICE!
One of my easiest classes this semester. Just attend class, take detailed notes, and study the night before. Just pay attention. If you put the effort in the class, so will he.
He was a very nice and funny teacher. Does not care too much about attendance, yet he will check role every once in a while. His tests are incredibly difficult. He will give you about 60 IDs and will choose 10 you need to write about in depth. STUDY THE IDS. Also I suggest knowing good points for the essays, I tended to forget what I wanted towrite
Professor Ward is funny and can make a history class something worth going to. His tests are long (no multiple choice- 3 different writing parts), but he gives partial credit. Just pay attention and take notes. He doesn't stress much on attendance either.
Professor Ward is an awful teacher. He provides tons of information in class, and you can put verbatim what he said on the test and he will still take off points. He also gives TONS of useless homework. I am an excellent writer and he would heavily critique my working and I would go to the writing center where the people have no critiques.
He is an amazing lecturer. I took loads of notes in his class and did very well. He was willing to help me and he is obviously very passionate about the subject.
Professor Ward gives the hardest tests ever! They are not multiple choice. He gives you a hundred terms to study but only picks twenty, but he won't tell you which twenty! Then he grades the essay part harshly
He is a great professor, knows a ton about history! Tests are kind of hard, but once you know what to expect it is not so bad.
Great professor who tells US history like a story, never like my hs teachers. He is on the hard side, i had to read my textbook extensively to get an A but he does have a passion/gift for explaining history
He lectures the entire time and doesn't really give you any information. His reviews for test are pointless, and do not help whatsoever. Overall i did not like his class.
His exams are easy. He does not really focus on facts, but small details.
Quiz, entire chapter of textbook reading, discussion post, and writing assignment every single week. I took it online hoping that it wouldn't be as much work since i took 16 hours. No, this class required more work than any of my others. Two tests - midterm and final, 50 questions and an essay. He's a fair grader and gives feedback though.
I took Professor Ward for both 1301 and 1302 and he is one of the best professors i've ever taken. He gives you reviews for the tests, and his lectures are informative and are exactly whats on the test. He is there to help if you need it, and gives great feedback on assignments. I'm sad he doesn't teach more classes because I would take him again!
Even though he has a lot of homeworks, i found out that the essay assignments will help with the final exam essay. He gave us 2 exams and the tests are quite a challenge, but he grades pretty nicely on essays. I passed with a B, since i didnt do well with the multiple choice exams. He is not so hard on the assignment deadline dates, he woks with u
Although the material did not interest me, Professor Ward does keep the classroom very upbeat. He stresses that he is there to help his students improve. You WILL need to read the text book. He gives all necessary test prep. He does not use power points, so you have to be quick taking notes. This class isn't an EASY A but easily possible to earn it
Professor Ward is a professor who truly wants to see his students succeed. You do need to read the textbook. Professor Ward is a great lecturer and is very respectful to students. The class wasn't easy and I worked hard for my A but I truly enjoyed the class, take Professor Ward if you want a fair, respectful, and intelligent professor!
Took him for Hist1301, and just registered for 1302! Great teacher, but long lectures. Test questions come from quizzes. Gives long time to get work turned in. Passed with a B with barely any effort.
I love Professor Ward! Take him for US History! He's very kind to students and truly wants them to succeed. His lectures are long but he does a good job of keeping students engaged. He's always willing to help students. If you make an effort you should be able to make an A. Tests are easy as long as you study. You can tell he really loves history.
The best History professor hands down. Always excited to start the day, uses powerpoints, stories, examples from history. Speaks loudly, clearly and distinctly with any redundant information. Always available for a question. And on top of that, if you show effort and ask question and he sees that you are trying - then you have my pity if you fail.
Great professor! Do the work, show effort, and you will pass. Took him on line so hated having to go to the testing center for Mid Term and Final but he does a study session before and all questions come from previous quizzes. Each week expect a discussion, 500 word essay, and a quiz. Some weeks you double up due to two units. Great caring guy
He's a really great lecturer and makes things very easy to understand by explaining events as if they were an interesting story. He's very passionate about the subject and cares a lot about the students. It's a pretty easy A if you put in the work. There will be no surprises on the exams whatsoever, so as long as you do the quizzes you'll be fine.
I took the Maymester, and was totally overloaded with the assigned reading, but It was a super rewarding class, diving deeply into the narrative of History, touching on the important topics often overlooked. I found the tests easy, but I'm also a history buff. Really enjoyable lectures.
I would say he is passionate about history and loves to teach. However, WAY TO MUCH HOMEWORK! It's these stupid essays.... No need for so many. I can get he wants you to learn the subject but sometimes it's 2 chapters of reading then 2 quizzes over those chapters then a Essay every week.... I would say please stop... We do have other classes....
Very passionate about history & makes it really easy to understand!
Despite my respect for him, I won't be taking his class again. He doesn't put any of the exams and essays in the grade book till literally the last few hours of the term. If you like to know what your grade is and wether or not you have that A vs a B status, or that pass vs a fail status, then your in for a suspensful semester with Professor Ward.
This class was probably one of the most difficult classes I've taken. I took him online, and he his awful at responding back to students. Also, he doesn't give test reviews. Very harsh grader, and sometimes won't leave feedback as to why you got docked points. I wrote more essays in this class than in my English classes! Don't recommend.
One of the best professors at Collin! He is willing to work with you if anything were to come up. The test questions come straight from the chapter quizzes and he gives you the essay prompts before the test!
Took him online so I don't know him personally. Expect an online discussion, a 250 or 500 word essay, and a 25 question quiz for each chapter. Online quizzes get two tries. He averages both grades for the final grade. Mid Term and Finals were easy if you studied. 50 multiple choice directly from the quizzes, and an essay for a topic he chooses.
Professor Ward's class was tough but pleasant. He gives good feedback when information is lacking in the many discussion boards, essays, and document assignments. You get 2 chances on the quizzes and they are averaged for the final quiz grade. Testing is easy if you study properly. Overall, a great class.
TAKE HIM. This is long overdue but I took him for both HIST. he is remarkable, 3 tests he gives reviews the test 100% covers. online HW, you can do all of it w/in the free trial period (answers on quizlet). FEW papers. He is interactive, great at story telling and really gets you engaged. HE WILL WORK WITH YOU. You will have to use the book
took him online and in-class for both HIST. I lack motivation and did not do any of the work until the last week and he accepted it all for full credit. He is PHENOMENAL i cannot say it enough. This is a year overdue mind you, but he is willing to work w/you. Will let you attend lecture even tho youre in online if it helps. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS
Engaging lectures that give a good overview, reading beforehand was necessary to keep up. I took him during maymester. Lots of papers, and some interesting grading criteria. His tests are taken directly from the at home online quiz, easy A.
I took this class online and it was one of the easiest classes ever. He is very laid back and allows a lot of time to get your work done. The assignments are due every Sunday and he allows you to redo assignments when you don't do so well on them. You also have 2 attempts on the chapter quizzes. The final exam consist of questions from the quizzes.
Great professor! He is really passionate about the topics and makes the lecture really interesting. I will definitely take HIST 1302 with him! best history professor.
Professor Ward is extremely sweet and caring! I didn't do any of the assignments until the end of the semester and he accepted them all for a late grade. There is a lot of work that you have to do and you have to go into campus to take the midterm and final in person, but other than that he's a great professor!
The exams are directly from the online quizzes, read the chapter and the quizzes are an easy 100 and ace the question portion of the exams. This professor is huge on giving evidence and supporting details for your arguments in the essay portion of the exam. Give lots of examples that relate to your argument and you will ace his class. LOVE THIS HIM
I took Professor Ward this semester for HIST 1301. It was more difficult than I expected but the info was given in class. He was very passionate about history and he wanted to share that with his students. Tougher grader, but still reasonable. You have to put in the effort. The class was very lecture heavy but if you take notes youll be fineI
Professor ward was a neat guy. if you enjoy history classes and dont mind extensive lectures then this is a good class to take. he was funny and made the material interesting. its a *lot* of reading but as long as you read the info you will have no problem whatsoever on the weekly quizzes/ exams.
took history 1301 with ward, long lectures, lots of homework, use the chapter quizzes to study for the exams, there's also quizlets for the chapter quizzes.
Engaging lectures, flexible office hours, fun research project, all the things you look for in a professor
His discussion questions are really good for thinking about the broad topic of the chapter. He does take a really long time to grade work and doesn't post a rubric to show why you got the grade that you got. Not a bad teacher at all
BEWARE!!! No matter how well you do on an assignment, he will NEVER give you full points. If it's out of 10, he will give a 9.5. He does not give feedback or rubrics so you never know what you are doing wrong to not deserve those .5 points. Also, there is usually 6 assignments due on one due date for each week. 2 quiz, 2 discussion & 2 assignments
The hardest class that I ever take, not to recommend this professor. There was so much homework, 2 quizzes, 2 discussions, 2 assignments every single week. The time for midterm and the final essay was too short to typing all the detail by his requirement. Never got full credit for discussion, Assignment. No feedback to explain why. NV takes again.
Clear coursework on canvas, you typically have 2 chapter quizzes, a discussion and then a short answer question. Typically took me an hour to complete. The exams are part questions part essay and the essay portions were always heavily graded. Easy class!
Professor is really passionate about the subject and really gets into it. Definitely would take another class with him.
I took History 1301 and 1302 with professor Ward and I absolutely loved it! He is an incredible professor who really cares about his subject and his students. His lectures are AMAZING and he facilities lots of interesting discussion, so participation matters! The quiz's/exams are a breeze if you read the textbook and listen in class. Had a blast!
He is a really great professor and his lectures were interesting but very heavy. Every test has an essay portion that is graded pretty hard so you have to know your stuff. Though he grades hard, he gives back a lot of feedback so you know what to work on.
Never again. Its a community college history course plus COVID! After our midterm he messaged all of us how disappointed and mediocre we were and how low our grades are. People are doing the best they can. Also, if you miss one of those document assignments you fail all of them. Hes awful!
This professor has TERRIBLE grading guidelines so his grading of many assignments seems arbitrary from assignment to assignment, has little to no definitive guidelines for how he grades, and gives entirely negative feedback. Would recommend you stay FAR away from him, as he is also grouchy in all of the contact I have had with him.
Do NOT take this Professor, DO NOT! He made this online class SO HARD. We had a textbook to read, each chapter was 50+ pages long. He never provided us with powerpoints or notes. And when you ask for help YOU WILL NOT GET IT. 2 essay exams worth 60% of your grade. Each chapter also had doc assignments that were heavily graded. HE WILL FAIL YOU.
I took this professor online this semester and let me just say this class is not an easy A. He makes SURE you only use the textbook and will give you zeros if you use anything outside of it. The feedback is not very helpful most of the time and neither is the textbook.
Not clear with instruction. Doesnt encourage critical thinking. DONT use outside course materials.
Don't be fooled by the reviews. Nobody in the class gets >90 for assignment. Lots of reading, like 30+ pages every week for assignment. plus 2 discussions every week and it's like 3 pages essay to satisfy him. no extra credit, no PowerPoints, no lectures, only work with the book. Boring and useless! this is an online class.
This professor is a pretty tough grader so only take this class if you're willing to put effort into assignments and tests. The midterm and final are both essays, and do get a high B or above you have to make logical arguments and back them up with evidence. It's a good class if you want to learn and put in the work.
took him last semester. criteria for exams were not clear, he told you what chapters to cover for the exams, just for you to find out that the questions on the exams are very niche and irrelevant. on canvas, 1 or 2 students would get an A on assignments out of a class of 30. you need 2 TEXTBOOKS. very unforgiving and unclear on his grading criteria
This will be a very difficult professor if you want an A. The highest grade for the class for discussions was 97%, and often the highest grade given was 90-93%. Professor Ward will not give a 100% grade for any work. No assignment is good enough and he will send a weekly post explaining what the class failed to do in recent assignments.
Professor Ward is great! His lectures are very informative and engaging. There is quite a bit of reading you must do in order to stay ahead and to keep up with the homework, but overall, it isn't too overwhelming. His grading is a bit tough due to the mid-term and final being open questions. I would definitely take one of his classes again!
too difficult if its your first sem. we had to write an essay for midterm and 2 essays for midterm, way too difficult, he gave assignments every other day, documents and quizzes. and only lectures in class, no quiz guide or anything. you were basically on your own in this class.
Tough grader, but good lecturer and good with student engagement.
He gives a lot of readings and quizzes for the reading. You have to handwrite the Essays for the midterm and Finals.
Professor Ward's lectures are engaging, but the course requires a lot of reading and commitment. Attendance is mandatory, and the grading can be tough. However, with diligent studying using resources like Unstuck ai, the class is manageable and rewarding.
At least for an online class he is the worst. Makes you buy 2 textbooks he wrote that are only available at the Wylie campus. On top of this the way he grades is extremely unclear. He gives little to no personal feedback, instead writing to the class as a general group that way you don't know he if is talking about something you wrote.Poor managing.
Such an understanding teacher. This is what college kids need nowadays. We are navigating through adulting and all the different responsibilities half of us have full time school and we work. He wants students to succeed and he is just so kind!
