Great lectures and understand the material well. Easy quizzes but quiz every week. If you take this class, make sure you do good in the quizzes to get an A.
Eazy quizzes. Lots of sense of humor. If you take his class, find out first whether there are any A's students in his class if so, quizzez would be more difficult.

He is an exceptional teacher when it comes to helping his students. He really looks out for their well-being, and he is quite the comedian. Think you'll enjoy his class! He's also LAZY (I'm not insulting him, he said so himself)
he's so cute and he makes me love math again
Yang is a really cool guy. Very clear and helpful. He tests u on the basic concepts.
nice guy.. dorky LOL. fun. tests okay. just do hwk.
the best teacher , he explains very clear and gives quizes every week that are very very helpfull.
he is cuTe
First of all, he is cute and VERY nice (also playful) He doesn't mind answering STUPID questions....not to mention..**over and over again** he is young (only 29 on 2003) and already has a Ph.d in math~He is the best math teacher at PCC~must take him!!
Conveys his teachings very well. Asks if anyone has any questions on any hmwk at the start of class & goes over them. Tries to exclude any bias questions on quizzes/exams and in class. Also a big sports fans - likes the Lakers!
NICE....He is really nice and friendly. The best Math teacher i have ever seen in PCC. The lecture is easy is to understand; no one will feel bored in his class. He is very popular, register his class immediatly since he is always full.
i wish UCB had a math teacher like him....tell him to go teach at UCB, please !!!
Nice guy. He likes to write ALOT... so it gets kind of long if you take a long class with him. awesome guy!
Great teacher. He know well in teaching.
This guy is sort of funny. He can explain complicated ideas in simply way. That's cool. It's hard to get C. Even he is ABC, he can hear Cantonese, Mandarin.
this is the greatest math teacher that i hv every met..he is cute and funny. his tests are easy..so take him, you would have some fun.
Great! He knows all the books in detail and we can ask him. It's easy to follow lecture and we don't need much to refer to the textbook. Take it. Thanks.
I believe he is one of the greatest math teachers ever. He goes over material really well and helps student try to understand material as much as needed until they graps the concept.
THE best professor around! He's intelligent yet humble, very rare in professors. Believe me when I say that because I hate doing math, I didn't get an A(my fault, laziness.) Dr. Roger Yang taught me that is cool to be a smart. You even learn to draw a ****
roger is the coolest, funniest, and easiest teach ever. You will never fall in sleep in his class even he always has the early class hours. he remembers every student's name in his class, his tests and quizes are based on his notes and they are very basic
he is one HOT teacher in the campus~~he is so easy that it's hard to fail in his class. he is soooooooo easy!!!! esay A~clear explanations~!
This dude is DA BOMB! He's only 31 but has BA and MA, yet he doensnt look geeky/nerdy but he's FUNNY. You won't find any better math (or any other) teacher on this campus. Pro'lly the best teacher I've ever met. Great teaching, he's awesome. u NEED him.
His lectures are very detailed and clear. Could be THE BEST PROFESSOR at PCC! Easy going, nice, and young. Tests are covered through lecture and homework. Do both, and you'll breeze through the class with at LEAST a B, if not an A!
=D he has a ph.d too... smart guy. he likes naruto. =p
He is an ok teacher. I think the only problem is when he explains math so simple that he leaves out certain information need in the HW. He definitely loves to help students. He likes to pick on people who walk in late.
He is a good and helpful teacher, but he gives test or quiz every week, but he will drop the lowet quiz. Usually, he gives test after every chapter, I think that's good because you will not be fall behind a lot. If you are really interesting Math or really want to study hard, strong recommend him!
YES!!!!!!!!! TAKE HIM! U NEVER REGRET TO TAKE HIM. HE MAKES US STUDY MATH. HW N QUIZZ R WORTH TO HELP UR GRADE B/C U CAN MAKE UP UR C GRADE TO DO HW. THE TESTS IS BASED ON HW N QUIZZ IS BASIC THINGS U MUST KNOW AND NOT DIFFICULT.
DR. Yang is really good teacher. He always explains everything clearly in an exciting way. Make stuff easy to understand. but when it comes to the quiz, his exams are way too easy. you can't fail fail his exam unless you're really really dumb. average-math-skill student (like me) will easily got A!!
Enthusiastic, good heart, teaches so well, positive, entertains, funny, reads student's minds, clever w/ own questions, fair grading, too smart, parents were scientists, looks like student, soothing voice, humble, magic tricks, relies on few notes, sweet. He was difficult but I learned so much!
final is whole details that is not like other tests u took before final n doouble. be careful even though u have Bs(-B) before final u can get C so work on detail concepts on final.
Definitely one of the best math professors at PCC. He's very enthusiastic, tries to make learning fun, and genuinely interested in student success. He is also very helpful when you approach him with questions. The occasional mistakes he makes and his handsome good looks may be a distraction.
Funny teacher. Very helpful. Makes a lot of mistakes in his lectures. Did not drop a test. Is not organize lecture.
He is a very good math teacher, understands how to simplify the idea for students and clear it through practice. Very patient, very relaxing learning environment. I failed Cal 5A first time i took it, and i have never took pre-cal before, but I did well in the class.
The greatest college level math prof. i have ever had. Roger is the dopest, he wants you to learn. Not like others, where they seem like they're out to get you. The material is hard but he makes it simple, "Calculus for Dummies" if you will. Great instructor, hard subject.
he is nice and good.!!! but i always feel i need more time on tests in class. there are not many problems on test so each problem worth 5points sometimes 10points. if u make mistakes on some problems u will get in trouble although he gives partial credit it doesn't help a lot
worst teacher at pcc, lecture is not organized and not approachable. test questions are hard and the students usually do not have enough time to finish them. not recommended at all.
self centered and ego maniac like all math profs
Mr. Yang is an excellent teacher, he goes over everything in the class. The tests are basiclly coming from the homework, so make sure to understand the homework. He is serious and fear for the grading system. I recommend everybody to take him becasue you will learn lots of things.
this guy must have some sort of short man complex because he is very rude and tries to be tough with the students. he cant ever answer hm questions without a snide comment or remark. what a jerk!
not a good teacher at all. doesnt like explaining in detail. very lazy and dissorganized. makes alot of mistakes and expect students to know how to do problems that he cannot even do in the first place
Master of making mistakes ... kakakak
he probably gives himself these 5...
I SUCK at math and I got a B in his class. He explains concepts well although he sometimes has an attitude when answering questions.Still, I HIGHLY recommend him for any math class. The key is to do all the homework and then do evens & odds of the medium-hard problems before a quiz or test.I found his tests very reasonable-he often uses hw probs.
I love this guy. He's young - digs anime, tennis, snowboarding and Family Guy. Good sense of humor, very amicable and approachable, and precise on what one can expect on tests and quizzes. He does seem to expect a basic level of understanding from students, and is hesitant to hold one's hand through problems, but I consider that another plus.
Prof Yang is a very chill teacher, not anal like many of those other math professors. You can tell he wants his students to pass. He'll give partial credit which helps a lot, and he'll give you sample problems of what will be on the quiz. He's very cool and you'll feel comfortable in his class. And tell him if he ever has a bad hair day. :)
Very young math professor, he is young so you can just talk to him like your friend and he will understand but the downside is he need more experience teaching. The lecture is okay, not perfect but he tried hard to cover everything he can, and only those area he covered will be tested on. Very understanding and give alot of partial credit
Really good teacher. Makes everything easy to understand b/c he has good, clear lectures. He's very helpful in office hours and wants his students to learn the material and be successful.
super down to earth. cares about students.

This professor is the best math professor in PCC. He makes good and clear explanation and is very willing to help his students. His tests are fairly easy if you do your homework. He gave short chapter quizes before tests which really helps. Super super down to earth and friendly. Strongly recommended if u suck at math.
He's a good teacher, but stats IS a hard subject. Nonetheless, he does a good job of explaining things, and he really wants to see his students succeed. Roger's very easy to talk to, and he's funny too. The easiest way to pass the class is to do the homework, seriously. That's the only way to study for a math class anyway.
Words I would use to describe Roger: aloof, arrogant, inpatient, jaded, and confusing. He does not adequately prepare you for the homework, much less the test. The lectures are a breeze because they do not reflect what will appear on the exam! He asks for your opinion, and then tells you he doesn’t care what your opinion is. Epitome of arrogance!
He is a very good professor. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. I like his way of teaching, He is easy to understand. And you will get at least an B in all of his classes if you do your homework and listen to his lectures. All of his test comes straightly from the homeworks, I would say that his grading is fair.
don't slack off!! if u keep up with the materials, u'll do fine.
LISTEN TO THE LECTURE AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK. IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND ASK QUESTIONS THEN YOU'LL MANAGE IN THE CLASS. HE'S A GOOD TEACHER AND YOU CAN PASS THE CLASS IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND STUDY FOR HIS TESTS. SOMETIMES THE TEST ARE OPEN BOOK. BUT DO YOUR STUDYING FOR REAL
DO YOUR H.W. when you do it you'll following along better and its alot more easier on your life. there might be open book testes but you should still REVIEW. you should ASKS QUESTIONS when you don't understand something/ when you're falling behide. to pass this class you would need to PARTICIPATE
good teacher, young and likes to interact with his classes. The class is kind of hard to begin with so pay attention, do you homework, and take advantage of office hours and you will pass with an A
really get to the point with the material in book, clear explaination... grading is kinda harsh, so be careful on exams and tests~~ overall is ok, smart and funny guy
he is a great choice...i drop 5A before and then took it with Mr. Yang, i got a B, almost an A. He has great lectures and lots of examples. He give a lot of partial credit on exams. If you dont understand something new, just ask him.he will do what he can to help. Math 5A is calculus, its going to be a lot of work. But he makes it a smooth transtion
Dude, I had him once and he totally failed me. I think its because I knew some of his friends. Overall cool guy, but personality could you use a little work. Liked my dumb jokes and the Dodgers.
i like him....so great.so funny....although i got B for math 10, but he really made me interested in Math...i love math.haah...just like he loves math....taking him...he is really a good guy,,,he grades very equitably.....but in the end..he also will up ur grade...he cares his students...and helping us, making fun with us...great

Dr. Yang is totally awesome. He made Calculus bearable. I think his grading is very fair amd his lectures are clear and understandable. He's really smart, nice, and always willing to help during office hours.
YOU MUST GO TO CLASS. HIS TESTS ARE FAIR BUT HE WONT DROP A TEST AND DOESNT GIVE YOU THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, IE HE DOESNT GIVE YOU A B- IF YOU HAVE A 79%
HE GRADES VERY FAIRLY~BUT HIS QUIZES AND TESTS ARE NOT REALLY HARD, JUST GOING OVER CAREFULLY. YOU WILL BE FINE~..AND DON'T IGONORE THE QUIZES, THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT... .HAHA..BUT HIS CLASS IS VERY INTERESTING, YOU WILL ENJOY IT~TAKE HIM~A GOOD PROF.
A good professor, class is organized, two midterm and one0final, each one is cost 30%, total is 90%, hw is 10% (JUST DO IT, HE DID NOT CARE).that's it!
He is a really good teacher! His class is really fun too!
Great!
Dr Yang's class is fairly easy.
for some reason i always took him to work around my schedule. but hes ok... he makes tasteless jokes which are funny when he says it but overall i guess hes good... his lectures are straight off the book... and he says he curves ' 70-79 c, 80-89b, 90-100 a',,, man thats a straight scale curve
Very helpful teacher who can make hard things easy. Clear and detailed lecture ,fair test. The best math teacher i have so far. Highly recommend take his class. btw, THANK YOU, DR. Yang
Trick is to read before you get to class, so you won't waste too much time taking notes in order to really listen in on how he does the problems....He is really good at explaining things so you will remember them a much later.
Great teacher! Very clear on what he teaches, nice person to approach. I suggest doing your hw because really helps especially on the day of the exam. High suggested! :)
Spectacular Teacher. Go to his office hours. Read a section ahead. Don't study at the last minute. Even if you know the section, understand the concepts and don't do route memorization. His lectures are awesome insights that help you remember Calculus forever, especially if you think you know calculus or Star Wars. PS I'm never wrong!
The most helpful math teacher I ever had. He goes through every detail to make sure that you get the material. He truly cares about his students. You have to do the homework and study hard to pass, but he will make sure that you will learn.
Laid back and funny. Encorages students to do well. Teaching style is great. Big fantasy baseball geek. You'll like him if you're no square. Props to ya Dr. Yang!
One of the best math teachers you will ever have. He cares for his students and will help them as much as he can. If your not good in math, I would recommend taking him because he will do his best to help you. I recommend him for everyone!
Dr. Yang is a wonderful professor, he will as much as he can to make sure that you understand the material (even if it means you go to his office hours every day). If you understand all the homework you shouldn't have any problem in this class.
When I signed up for this class, I assumed this class would be very hard since math is my worst subject. But thanks to his great teaching and the way he kept us awake during class, I was able to pass this class with a A's. His reviews before a test are 100% accurate, so make sure to take lots of note during the reviews.
Prof Yang is a pretty laid back teacher. He teaches with his examples which relate to real life situations, which are very helpful. When he teaches he doesn't just go straight out of the book he'll try to show you things on the internet and try to make you understand the concepts of what he is teaching rather than how to solve the problems.
He is the Barrack Obama of math. Enough said.
i have already dropped stat 50 twice before taking this class. conselor told if i drop one more i can't take the stat in pcc anymore so thsi is my last chance to try i am really bad at math and i believe stat is much more harder than math BUT I PASSED THIS CLASS WITH SOLID A. YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE TO TAKE THIS CALSS.mostof theanswer is between 0 and
super good professor-funny,clear,super easy.i dont what else to say,he is super easy and he makes a lot sense.funny guy.i can only repeat myself.whatever, take him, best choice
You use mathxl which is online so you easily slack off more. Book problems aren't much, but would help if there was more on book problems. Great explanations on lectures and wants you to do your best! it's up to yourself to do the work etc he is really down to earth and funny to keep the class awake.
Mostly what people already said below! He'll try his best to make the problem crystal clear with comprehensive explanation. do your hw (the even prob. are highly recommended). if you understand the hw, you'll pass the class with flying color! :) seriously!
he has a different teaching style which is let u struggle a bit and then show u how to do the problems... so preread is highly recommended...otherwise u r just gonna sit there like a fool and daydream... His gradings are fair and its true...most of the test problems comes from ur hw.. try to understand it and ull do fine
Statistics is a hard subject in general but, he makes it apply to every day life and makes it fun. Seriously, study for the final and do homework! Awesome professor.
Prof Yang is definitely one of the best math prof's i've ever had. He cares about his students alot - enough to stop students from cheating and talk to them about it, thank god b/c some profs dont do that. He is clear and helpful. I did well by doing all the hw problems and got an A. The final was tough, so try to do well on the midterms before.
I cannot find any word to describe this guy. Awesome, wonderful, perfect, .... He is extremely handsome that let me love him at the first sight. He explains everything absolutely clear and his lecture is extremely helpful. He treats us like friends. I wish I have the second chance take him. THE BEST OF THE BEST PROFESSOR IN PCC
I love him! He rocks! He is hot an handsome! His lectures are easy to understand! Take him for an A
I think professor Yang becomes hard this year. 5B has very hard material, but I did worked alot on this class, but still ending up with a B, and I dont know what will happen to my grade after the final. If you are shy, dont take his class, cause we had group works eveyday, and be ready for him to pick on you!
We did lots of group work,hw,quizzes. There were 3-4 tests. As long as you do the hw, which are from the book, you should do fine on the quizzes and tests. I got mostly As & one B on a test & some grade on the final and got an A overall. DO THE EVEN PROBLEMS. Dr Yang is an extremely helpful and nice prof so I hi-lee recommend him for any math class
extremely helpful and really straight forword on the exams. everything on the test are from the HW, so if you do your homework, you should be able to ace the class.
Wish he would've let us use the book for every tests like other Professors.
I guess he becomes harder this year. only a little group works and a lot of quiz. quiz is worth 20% of our grade and the quiz problem is not very easy. 3 exams only worth 40% of your total grade. you have to study hard for his class.
He's super hot and easy to understand but don't be fooled. He is a hard grader and will have no mercy.
Intelligent, professional, and funny. Moderately difficult tests. Cares about students. Very fair grading. Theoretical lectures. Manageable workload: homework checked but not graded, biweekly quiz.
He explains things very well and always encourages critical thinking of the material, which really helps in understanding it. In 5C, he would use a lot of hand gestures, computer programs, and objects to help us visualize all the 3D geometry associated with that class. His kung fu is indeed quite good. Math is not just a tool.
Good professor, teaches well, but honestly a REALLY TOUGH GRADER
He's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He has but two flaws: He teaches FAST and he gets frustrated when you don't understand something(not mad just frustrated). But he's a cool guy overall. Do your best and so will he. Just don't waste his time or disrespect his rules.
One of the best math professor at PCC. Dr. Yang's class fills up quickly because of his popularity. If you have great math skills, then his class would be very easy. If not, then you'll struggle, especially those who just completed Intermediate algebra. Young professional and inspirational.
If you're not a math fanatic this is a tough teacher and a tough class. Dr. Yang is animated and can be funny which helps make the class bearable. However, he's a tough teacher and moves quickly. If you don't get it you'd better ask again & again. He will make time to see you and go through problems in detail. Ofc. hrs. are alway full of student.s
Professor Yang taught the best math class I've ever had! I've constantly struggled with math through the years and felt it was hopeless, UNTIL I took his class. He is clear and helpful, if you don't understand something he will take the time to help you understand either during class time or after class. He is a fair grader, and I passed with an A!
Don't take him at all, if u know calculus u might be able to survive, but if it's ur first time, then ur screwed. Hard grader, his exams arent what he teaches at all. You basically have to self study to figure things out. He doesn't solve problems off the homework and he chooses the hard problems that he didn't cover to be figured out on the exams
Tough grader, his lectures aren't related to what's on the test. He dosnt know the material really well. Students were always helping him solve the problems. Many times we got stuck on a problem, then the same problems was on the test. I don't recommend him to be honest. If you could take another professor then don't hesitate.
Wasn't too picky on homework, but then again it's on you. Gets frustrated very fast & expects everyone to get the material all in one lecture. Don't take him if you struggle with math. Will not take pity of your test scores and will not drop your lowest test score. I took him and totally regretted it, overall he's a nice guy just a tough grader.
Real bad DONT TAKE HIM
Taking this professor, you don't need to require yourself strictly. The test questions are not super hard. As long as you did all the section's homework carefully you can understand the material and get a good grade.
For me Stats was easy and I think its a course that can be easy or hard depending on your math skills. But if you find it challenging it won't be due to poor teaching. He really tries to help everyone. There were many in my class who had taken him before for a lower math or retaking the course which I think shows how good he is. Fun, nice & funny
Having a strong algebraic background is essential for Stats especially for the last few chapters. Also, you must learn to deal and be comfortable with word problems. Although Yang is enthusiastic, he can be arrogant and very sarcastic. He also grades tough and gives no extra credit. Some students may find him funny, but it's totally unacceptable.
The keys to pass in his class is do the homeworks, quizzes, and ask if you don't get it. Really test your reading skill. The class is really fun. Highly recommended
Merciless grader on the tests and assigns lots of homework and quizzes. BUT really funny teacher, chill guy, awesome professor overall. He makes things crystal clear and will always be there for help. Just attend class and PAY ATTENTION and this is a fun and easy course.
He is one of the best professor in PCC. Everything is well explained. Just make sure you pay attention in the class, do all quizzes and homework. He usually reply to the email immediately if you have a question about class or homework. Take him!
If you show that you care, Yang'll care and do the best he can to help you. He passes out worksheets for his lecture, and makes a study guide before each test. No midterm or buying a textbook 'cause it's a pdf on canvas for hw, 4 tests, a final exam, and 26 hw assignments total. Quizzes online, 2 tries. Tests are worth a large chunk of your grade
This is the teacher you want for mathmatics and stats. Seriously, this is the guy. One of the standout professors at PCC.
Good: Tells you exactly what to do and expect in a test. Helps you understand the material. Interesting personality. Cares about students' success. Bad: Don't take if you want to understand the deep mathematical basis of why you do things in a certain why. Misc: Lots of homework. Easy tests. Makes intro stats easy. Mostly calculator work.
Prof Yang explains the theoretical science behind calc concepts and calculations which are helpful to understanding and recalling certain formulas. He's super down to earth and approachable. There are few tests; do well from the beginning bc he doesn't drop any! Tests are straightforward and he provides helpful study guides. Grades hw on effort
Worst math teacher at PCC. I was lost the first day of class. He expects everyone to be experts without knowing the material. I dropped the class and will not take again! Save yourself!!!
Took his Stats 50 class, easy to understand, patient and willing to teach if your in need of help, very understanding, easy grader, he will give you partial points just for trying, and would for sure take him again.
Can accept a little bit late and not very strict on hw. exams r ez if u follow him, no need to simplify the answers.
Very nice and funny, but there's always a quiz or a test every week. He gives a lot of homework, but he's lenient with it. Overall, his tests are pretty difficult, but he does give partial credit and curves the tests if he sees the need to.
Professor Yang was really good at teaching. He always thought of the best ways to teach his students. Although his exams may be difficult, you'll get through it if you studied. There is a lot of homework, but it prepares you well for the exams.
He makes Stats so easy! He gives plenty of homework and quizzes but they both help so much on the tests. If you struggle with math, take him! Hell take his time with the class to explain everything and if you are still confused hell help you out during office hours.
He explains things very well to the class and tries his best to ensure that each student knows how to do the work. He would sometimes have students do practice problems and he would walk around helping those who need it. A good strategy to study for this class is to do all even and odd problems in the textbook related to the study guide. Good Luck!
He is the best math professor hands down! His teaching is clear and easy to understand. Easy going and understanding guy, if you have trouble understanding the material he does all he can to make sure that you understand it. Take advantage of his office hours, they help!! As long as you pay attention, do the homework and STUDY then you'll def pass.
Hes a good professor, very intellectual about the subject but intense workload for someone like me. We had hw every class, online quizzes every class, in class quizzes, and tests, and worksheets. It was A LOT. I had to study for hours for his test just to get a C all the time. But then again it was hard for for me to pay attention to his lectures.
This class has no midterm so the final will be cumulative. The inclass work sheets sometimes doesnt cover everything neccisary to do the home work. You get three extensions for home work.
the best professor ive ever taken class with in pcc. stats easily became my favorite subject because of professor yang. he explains really well and his tests & quizzes are easy. he assigned a lot of homework but its not hard and it is really helpful to study for the tests. would take him over and over again.
One of the best math professor I took in PCC. His lectures are very clear and well-thought out. He changed his criteria this year by not having daily quizzes but having daily homework. Gives extra credit if you do the practice problems, which are helpful during the exams. His class may be exam heavy, but his exams aren't difficult.
Dr Yang is really great at explaining statistics. He provides lots of examples and answers any questions you have in class. He really wants you to do well and understand the material. Cons: doesnt offer extra credit. 50% of your grade is one test and the final, lots of homework, and hes a strict grader. Overall hes pretty good!
Professor Yang is easily one of the most understanding and caring professors on campus. His lectures are great and he's always around to help his students in any problems in/out of class. A lot of worksheets but they helped me when studying, and the exams are not too difficult. Would definitely recommend for all students.
One of the better professors at PCC. I was never good at mathematics, but his lectures are great and he encourages questions too clear up any confusion. Took Stat 50 with another professor had to drop it because I was falling way behind. Took it with him and i was on track throughout the whole semester. Definitely reccomend.
Hes a good professor. He answers your question any confusion he's willing to help you. He's that type of professor that wants you to learn only if you are willing to. His exams do become hard and if you miss a day you do start to fall behind. As long you understand and do the homework you will be able to pass the class.
Yang is well organized and his lectures are easy to follow if you are paying attention. Homework, some days there is A LOT and others there is not much at all. I felt humiliated to ask questions if I didn't know what was happening. Harsh grader, tests are very difficult and cover ALL the information even the small stuff. No extra credit at ALL.
I took him for both Math 5A/10 (got A). Great professor who actually cares about his students. 100% recommend taking him.
I took professor Yang during an 8 week course and it was extremely fast but he made the lectures clear and welcomes people to not be afraid and ask questions. As someone who is not good at math, he made it seem almost easy.
Helps during office hours and makes sure students understand the material.
Take it from me he is a very solid choice for a 5B teacher. He knows the material and makes a difficult class straightforward. As long as you listen to the lectures and do the homework you will pass the exams. He doesn't provide overkill problems or random stuff we never learned on the exams. Lots of office hours where you can ask him questions too
Super understandable lectures, I rarely needed to read the textbook to get good scores. However, you need to attend lectures and there's tons of HW , quizzes and oral exams to check if you're cheating. HW is usually the longest as after week 8 it can take up to 1.5 hours per assignment. Otherwise great professor and a heavy but possible workload.
I have literally never taken an easier math class. He doesn't use letter grades and instead uses a mastery system where either you master a concept or you don't through quizzes, gw, and tests. He allows you to retake the quizzes and tests and resubmit gw questions you got incorrect. You're basically guaranteed an A with Yang.
Prof Yang is a great choice. His class is a bit difficult, but your efforts with his will get you through everything. He grades based off mastery (passing grade per subject) instead of test scores and all that. He also lets you re-do any test and quiz. He's also a really approachable guy so I always felt good being in his class. Take him if you can
His new standard is awful. You can't pass if you don't pass the oral exam, which is stupid.
Prof Yang is not for everyone. His class is a standards based class which means that you get tested on how much you know/what you learn instead of points. In this way, students can learn a lot instead of just passing with hw "points" which I appreciate. Not sure if he will continue standards based grading, but I enjoyed his class and I hated math.
He uses a standard-based system where you have to "master" almost every section in the book. It's really easy but stingy because you really can't miss a single thing. I'd honestly say don't take him (like fr don't), not for an easy A and not if you really wanna learn. Grade was only quizzes and tests, plus oral exams, I got an A but didn't enjoy it
Took him for 5A&5B and passed with an A for both. Not the easiest prof for some but he's very nice and patient when you need help. Tests are all based on the hw he wrote so do the hw (not the txtbook). His new standard thing is kind of wack but I think it was easy overall if you do all the hw. Also, attend class so you understand the lecture notes.
Please for the love of god take Pete Riley for math, don't waste your time here. Prof. Riley is significantly better. His new standards system also makes no sense, you could get every concept but miss one at the end of the semester that you can't retake, and boom, a B. Truly horrifying after a semester of hard work, it's all gone just like that
DO NOT TAKE. His new standard based grading system is horrible. yea you can retake all the tests and quizzes but if you dont pass ONE you get a B in the class. I passed every single thing in the class except one near the end of the year and got a B in the class. I emailed him and he said his grade was final. save your grade DO NOT TAKE HIM.
do not take this class. the professors grading standards are completely terrible. Its a shame how youll beat yourself up to succeed all for it to go to waste. You cannot miss one single thing and are expected to master all the given exams and quizzes. He has no regards for his students at all.
One of the best math professors out there. Sure, his standard-based grading may not be so much of what people like but he allows you to retake the standards multiple times until you master them. And I feel like in that instance you learn more about the subject. Those who put hate on him didn't put in the effort like you should be.
if you want an A you have to "master" all the concepts in his class (standards based grading). You are allowed to retake quizs/tests/and the final. But he does push the hard stuff towards the end which is not good since you will have less time to retake it. NOT AN EASY A, you will learn a lot, but it may cost you the lower grade.
I wouldn't go as far as to say his standards-based grading system is horrible but definitely a bit flawed in some aspects. Whether you want an A, B, or C, you will need to pass and understand nearly every concept/standard throughout the course. Not an easy A but gives you lots of opportunities to retake standards that you don't pass.
DO NOT TAKE this class. his new standard based grading system is great but the way he assigns an A a B and C is so flawed. if you dont pass one out of the 28 units you get a B in the class. you work so hard all year just for it to all be throw away. He does not assign letter grades fairly and honestly is no help in office hours. save your grade
This class was one of the most stressful yet rewarding classes I've taken. Roger is incredibly knowledgeable and goated. He is always open to help but is honest with his students - he will tell you if you are screwed. Roger's fatal flaw is his standards based grading which can lower your grade from an A+ to a B in one test if you let things pile up
You have to learn every topic (not just important ones) to get an A. You are allowed to retest standards, which takes pressure off until the very end when some are missing. I feel prepared for Math 5B after this class but this class was very hard. Attendance was optional, you just have to take the tests/quizzes. Must buy Webassign for HW.
He always gives feedback on what you get wrong and you get multiple chances to redo every test/quiz EVEN THE FINAL. The standard-based grading system has a few bugs that need to be sorted but if you pay attention in class and study before tests it is an easy A.
Never took Calc before in my life, so was lowkey scared I would just drop out of the class but his standard-based grading saved it. If u are taking a lot of classes, don't take this class. If this is one of the few classes you are taking, then you'll pass the course easily but won't get an A. You'll need to work but easy to get a B. 2 bad no Calc5B
I cannot recommend professor Yang enough. This was my 5th math class at PCC and hes blown every other professor Ive ever had out of the water. Makes math not scary. Makes you feel like you can do well. Very happy to help struggling students. He clearly, truly cares.
Good Lecture even tho he did a lot of mistake, which i help him to correct. You need to be perfect at every test to get an A. But he is very nice and approachable.
quizzes or exams every week but infinite chances to redo. the tests themselves are super basic and just need proper preparation beforehand
TAKE PROFESSOR YANG. You won't regret it. Infinite number of retakes for any quiz or test (you just have to ask him). Also, all quiz/test questions are word to word homework/classwork problems. Average amount of homework but you get an automatic 100 for completion (no corrections). Overall super cool guy! Take him!
Easy quizzes. You need to meet all the standards to get A but honestly at least in 5A his quizzes are so easy and you have so many chances to redo.
His lectures are easy to understand as he draws a lot and it is good for visual thinkers like me. Quizzes are easy, as long as you show understanding it would be fine. He gives webAssign hw for practice, which does not count into the grade, and it provides detailed solutions. He is also caring, which makes you leave every class happy.
He is good professor, easy exam if you doing practice.A easily
Professor has grade point system, can be both good and bad. He is very funny and friendly.
Roger Yang is a very nice professor and cares about all his students! He has great lectures; he walks through every single problem and is always open to questions. He does standard based testing and no partial credit meaning you must get everything correct and have little to no mistakes to get an A.
Even though I got a B in the class because of his peculiar grading system, I don't regret taking him. I think the class was manageable if you put in the work. There is a lot of homework (because it's math) and I remember it being harder than the actual quizzes and tests. Review the notes for quizzes! No final. I think it prepared me well for 5B.
Prof Yang really believes in growth mindset and I appreciate him for that. I personally do not like how his grading system was organized, but it was overall a good semester to learn calculus. You will have a test every week, so if you do any redos, do them quick. His hours conflicted with mine, so I wasn't able to redo much, but he's a good guy tho
Professor Yang wants all his students to succeed. Well-organized lecture notes. Perfect pacing. Timely feedback. Reasonable difficulty on the quizzes. It was an epic experience. Highly recommended!
Math Path covers Math 5A & 5B in 16 weeks. He really cares about whether a student understands the material. He believes in and practices a growth mindset. This class moves quickly, there are notes for each section and homework. The homework is much more difficult than the tests. But it helps you learn the material.

At first his grading system seemed more fair than normal grading systems because you get so many chances BUT if you flop on the last 2 topics. All your hard work along the way lands you a B. DO NOT FALL for this type of grading system.
Prof Yang is a good lecturer and the format of the class was orderly but standards based grading will ruin your confidence. You get 2-3 redos on tests but you end up memorizing instead of learning. If you want to put in a ton of extra work with exams, homework and lecture notes just to get a C then take this class. Very hard to get an A or B.
5% participation, 5% homework(need to complete 70% of the hw to get the 5%). Exams are worth 90%. There are 8+ exams. Couple midterms. 1 question wrong = fail. he lets you retake exam but time is finite. you need to get 100% on all exam to get an A which should be a heinous crime. idk who gave him these ratings. Grading system is fked up.
ez to pass. if you want B or A its insanely difficult. way too many exams for 8 weeks. he also has anger issues so its difficult to ask him questions. definitely has class favs
got a B. getting A is near impossible
Out of all the classes I have taken at PCC. I can confidently say that professor Yang is the GOAT. He truly cares. He doesn't just lecture 24/7 in his classrooms. He shows examples and walks you through it then he gives you problems to do in class. Walks around and gives feedback. If you want a High quality math education, you take prof Yang.
I have an A on his class. Very difficult to obtain an A since time is finite, easy to pass his class. He tends to get grumpy towards end of semester. Earlier in the first 8 weeks, he seemed to chill, towards end hes mad. Now it's the same thing, early towards the second 8 week, hes nice, but towards last week he was mad for no reason.
The best professor ever!!!!!!!!!!! Very clear lectures and the exams are easy, but make sure you do your homework carefully or you won't be able to do any of the exams.
5A was easy. for 5b, I messed up on 1 out of 12 exams. I am stuck with a B. No forgiveness. This is the flaw he doesn't highlight in his redos. Time is finite.
12 tests. I got a B despite getting near perfect score on each test except 2 of them. I am getting the same grade as someone who got 8/12 test corrects. pathetic. hes also rude to me along with his student. I come his office hour and he said he want leave and I hear him scream at someone for asking question. very rude
if you simply want to pass class. take him EASY PEASY. IF you want an Get out. 12 EXAMS + FINAL. 1 wrong = Fail. he makes you redo, and you can only redo certain days and 2 attempts. Redo questions are not similar.
i felt so scared. he made this girl cry after class because she messed up on 2 questions and she ended up with a B. she asked if she can get redo but he say only 2 redos so shes stuck with b. I felt so bad, my heart broke. I ended up crying when I got home. so much for growth mindset.
hes socially awkward. booring class. I took bc in hs so it was easy.
Class schedule is supposed to be M,Tu,Th,Fr 4 days a week. What he doesn't tell you is that you will end up sacrificing wednesdays because those are redo days. It's basically 5 days a week. probably feel lonely that why he need student come wednesday
some girl got a B in class. he announced it to the entire class. no sense of humility. he yaps about growth mindset. he has fixed mindset more than anyone else. he calls students smart in class when he make us read about how calling smart is bad. overall a weirdo
annoying
he tests you on the same thing on the final. class designed very poorly. too many tests + final, hardly any time to study. pros: you can retake test, late work accepted no penalty. cons: you have 2 tries, 3 tries in 5a, homework not related to test. sacrifice wednesday when there are no class just for redos. think twice before you sign up 4 program
I worked hard and got an A. however, my friend got a B. she got 2 quesstion less correct from me. he insult her and embarass her front of class.
1 Week left of class. He give us test 11 monday, test 12 tuesday and test 10(everyone fail in class) on tuesday, final on thursday. 4 exam in one week. I have to retake test 6. not enough time. i like teaching approach, grading approach horrible
great professor. alot of exams tho
hes the goat
If you have a job or multiple class, highly recommend not taking this class as this program can be very rigorous. pros = encourages growth mindset, focuses on mastery, adaptive learning, motivation to improve. Cons = time consuming, not high exam security (seen blatant cheaters), student burnout (way too many exams). Great method if taught right.
too many exams. Not enough time to retake all. Easy Pass. Impossible to get an A when you have other class and duties.
Awful, he has anger issues
lots of exams, but not too hard
i fail his class. his retake only day he have is monday wedensday. i come to his redo he tell me he doesnt wait and just leave. booring class.
he doesn't teach. he just does problem on ipad. Exams are tough. Redos are even tougher. I found his 5a harder than 5b.
has zero patience. idk what made him want to teach. hes not suited for this job. Has a very terrible tendency to put his students on blast. I have seen two people in class that got absolutely shamed in front of others. "you don't deserve an A in this class" "if you cant do that, you don't deserve to pass". -Growth mindset by the way. clown activity
he is an attention seeker. You ask him a question, he will do it on bored so everyone see him lol. you talk to him in private, he says out loud. class is very boring. about 1/5th of the class never shows up or shows up late.
leaving this review on the behalf of my friend. "if you can't integrate that then you don't deserve to pass my class". he said that to my boy infront of entire class. Maybe you try to teach him instead of insulting him in front of every1. my friend waited 8 weeks just to take it with this guy just to be insulted. Im glad I never took this guy.
different style of teaching. i like it
LOL this guy is funny. he insulted my g multiple times infront of class. has no chill. I took 5B with David Matthews. Easy and fair. he also wont say outloud "you don't deserve to pass my class" front of everyone LOL. thats very mean but I find it funny hehe. Check out David Matthews's rating, hes the best professor at pcc
Never have I waited 8 entire weeks just to sign up for a class so I can be insulted front of others HAHAHAHA - (You don't know what your doing) (you always argue back). shoutout to my boy for puttin up wit him. His role model showed his true colors. Never took this guy, but I highly recommend David Matthews. he not insulting you that 4 sure lmao
He was kind to me. Idk what these comments are talking about. Maybe because i got most of the things correct. Then again Maybe if i messed up it couldve been different. Theyre not wrong about the exams. Too many for 16 week. 20+ exams
Best math professor I ever had. Lots of feedback so you always know where you can improve. Great concise notes. Explains concepts very well, very well prepared. Lots of chances to retake. Quick grader as well, most it ever took for exams to get back to me was 2 or 3 days if even that, when it has taken other math professors upwards of 3 weeks.
don't fall for this retake test system. He teaches you the last standard 4 days before grades are due. he did this with 5A and same with 5B. incredibly frustrating because it doesn't leave you much time. His time management is extremely poor, considering the fact he was absent on an accelerated course. I had test 6 to prepare for and 10, and 12.
I thought it was okay. Not that difficult, not that easy. The class is very fast paced and the retakes help. However they tend to pile up since most tests are given towards the end. Not the hugest fan of this system since one test can drop you from an A to a B. Which is what happend to me in 5B. his 5A was okay. Don't take it unless your in a rush.
I found his class easy. my math foundation was pretty strong, however there are many exams like others have mentioned. His class is incredibly boring. He tries to fit in. You can take him but 3 hour class session per day excluding retakes. Boring class. Zzzzz
insanely boring class... he asks questions and no one answer xd. because no one pay attention
This is one of those subjects that require a lot of time spent outside the classroom (especially an accelerated course). I took this class alongside two others and it is achievable. I think the vast majority of people cannot grasp that success is repetition. If you understand this, he is the right professor for you. He is also a very cool person.
Professor Roger is best math teacher. During his math path class he is so nice to helping everyone learning knowledge. All you need to do is finish your homework and come class on time and pay attention learning materials then you will receive A Grade! He accept redo test ! So much helpful !
awesome professor. not a big fan of too many exams. if your a good test taker, then take him. he allows redos. If you have test anxiety. you might not like his class. Or you wont have anxiety after his class lol
Take his class if you're interested in learning. You will definitely walk out of his class learning alot. Overall makes you a stronger student and builds confidence. His class is designed so you can learn from mistakes. Allows redos for exam. Highly recommended.
put in work, ask for help = easy
Professor Yang is a genuinely passionate teacher, he wants everyone who participates in the math path program to succeed and do well. I was falling behind both in terms of grade and participation due to unforeseen personal issues but due to office hours and test retakes I was able to pass. Communication is key!
This class requires a lot of dedication, but if you put in the work, Professor Yang can be great. The fast pace and numerous exams are tough, but the retake system helps. Using unstuck study AI for study prep made a big difference for me.
Talks about students to other students. Will openly call some students smart and others slow. Very off putting. Easy class
TAKE HIM! Genuinely my favorite professor in all my years of education. I had an F half way through the semester and told him I am thinking of dropping and he told me to retake my tests (I failed 4 out of 6 of them) and he helped me study until I passed them with an A. Idk how I did it, but he really pushed me. He truly cares &wants you to succeed.
Very good professor, retake system helps a lot. Office hours are helpful.
His class is really made for you to pass. His grading system is based on standards (pass or fail), however you have 3 attempts per test to pass each. He passes you based on understanding rather then accuracy of the problem so you will not be penalized for most minor mistakes. If retaking he will also allow you to correct minor mistakes to pass.
I hate math but professor Yang made me like calc just because the way he structures it is purposely done to add room for improvement. His test retakes were so helpful and honestly he was such a funny sarcastic dude. I would recommend his class to honestly anyone of any math level because calc ended up being one of my easiest classes last semester.
Standard based grading, very unique but motivating. 10/10 Comprehensive curriculum, notes are directly related to test and all information is accessible & possible to learn with time & effort! Coding was time consuming but he's a delight. I adore Roger Yang, just hated how often he uses ChatGPT like.. let's not skip critical thinking first please?
When I ended with a C in 5A I thought math was definitely not for me. After taking Roger's class he inspired me to do better.v You could retake test that you messed up on. Actually, you can retake all test and even the final exam. He wants you to learn and grow instead of just giving you a grade. Really awesome and cool professor. 100% recommend.
His lectures did not prepared me for some of the tests. If he writes out math problems on the board, actually try those because they're similar to those on the tests; those helped me more than his lectures. Do a lot of practice problems to understand the math concepts procedurally, which is more of his teaching styles, and not conceptually.
Professor Yang makes 5B one of the easiest math classes ever. Although there's a test almost every week, his grading is fairly lenient and if u fail a test, u get 2 retakes and its only on the material u missed. Unless u have an irrational fear of testing, then this is the guy
He teaches how math should be taught because he lets you retake quizzes which helped me learn the math instead of not getting something and just ignoring it for the rest of my life. While he does let you retake the quizzes you still have to actually understand it to pass them. I am terrible at math but if you are dedicated you can push through.
Very good prof at PCC! There are several exams during the semester but the questions are not too hard and he also provides 2 retake opportunities (final also can be retaken once). Really nice person and giving very clear lecture. Not too many homework! Highly recommend
Best Prof. He explains everything clearly and makes 5B genuinely fun and engaging. His lectures are well structured, and he gives tons of DIY problems during class. He walks around, checks your work, and gives helpful feedback in real time. Retakes aren't punishment it's a chance to learn and grow. He truly wants you to succeed. Take this class!
THE GOAT of 5B, there is no other professor here that has a grading system that is specifically made for you to get an A. He offers multiple retakes for his tests, and only one retake on his final, ensuring that you are able to take tests stress free knowing that any mistakes you make can be correct on a retake for FULL credit. if u fail u r cooked
(Fall 2022) One of the best profs I've taken at PCC. He will bend over backwards to help you succeed if you return the favor & put in the work to learn. Class may have high expectations/workload, but not far from what you will need to survive at a 4-yr uni anyways. Chill guy, really wish I was extroverted enough to have gotten to know him better :)
the best prof for calc! i never thought i'd be able to get the hang of calc as i don't enjoy math, however prof. yang made it super understandable. at times the class was a bit overwhelming with the amount of hw (which explains my grade). go to office hours and do a bunch of practice problems and you will be fine!
Theres a contract-based grading system where there are sectioned standards to pass with subsections for quizzes. For each standard there a number of quizzes you need to pass to get a letter grade. Passing quizzes is conceptual to him, he doesn't count benign mistakes. Quiz retakes up to 2 times, final retake once, video lectures, access to notes.
