Barlett is very hard to understand, moves quickly and does not go over examples. Good luck trying to get a good grade in this course with him.
yeah i have no clue what he said during the entire course. he is a nice man, but speaks very poor english.. did all my learning from the text book.
difficult to understand
Had him for freshman seminar-Energy Alternatives. Not as hard to understand as others have said. This class is easy as long as you show up and half pay attention.
Could not listen, could not talk, gave quant problems even tho we werent getting credit, nice guy, poor teacher
took for gnm
nice sometimes hard to understand
Prof. Barlatt gives out online tests out of a book that is very poor and hard to understand. Other than that his in class tests are easy. His teaching of calculations on the other hand is very hard to understand and is very rushed.
He's a great teacher. Some people can't understand him and, curiously enough, they're also the people who can't understand chemistry. He's lenient and understanding, and if you can't keep up with him find an easier class.
If you do the work - its a great class..just dont be lazy and blame it on the professor
he rushes and his english is hard to undersatnd
I took him for Black Scientists & Inventors. The class was pretty tough. Dr. Barlatt was tough but fair. If you show up for class everday, and put forth an effort, you will pass. I had no problems whatsoever understanding his English
Have him for 8:30am class, boring at times, interesting class, hard online exams (time constraints, questions based on small facts in movies etc). the basic math required. Required to do participate in stupid online discussions.
Barlett is very incompetent and unknowledgable in all respects to his profession. In fact he didn't even know that there are no electrons in the nucleus of an atom...and this is what you get from a guy that teaches chemistry. Too little space to go on but do yourself a favor and don't take him.
This was a very interesting class. Enjoyed it very much. Would highly recommend, he's a good teacher.
Very good teacher, chem is a hard class and compared to other teachers he makes the class easy by being a good teacher, he is also willing to spend plenty of time out of class to help out.
chemistry and society way too hard to be a "G" class. he has a bad accent also. i had the distance learning class
good teacher. not that hard to understand(you have to get used to accents people alot of college profs have them)
he expects you to do show up and do the work but he also helps you as much as he can and makes chemistry as fun as possible. i think he's a great teacher....he keeps me awake at 830
I found chemistry to be very hard and I showed up for every class. I stayed after and he tried to help me. With no avail I ended up with a D in the class. :-( He rushed through the material also.
WAY TO HARD FOR A G COURSE. HE RUSHES THREW EVERYTHING. HIS ACCENT DOES NOT HELP AT ALL.
Tough but fair
I've always done good in Chem., so the class was really easy for me. He is a nice man, pretty boring though. Class was kind of dull.
he had no interest in teaching the class, and put little to no effort into the teaching of material that he was going to be putting no the exams. I love Chem, but this class was really rough
why did i take him again? i dont know. But seriously stay away from his class, you have to learn all the material on your own, the class is not (and should not) be hard, but if you dont have the time o read the text you will be done.
Horrible Professor! Disorganized, rude and unprofessional. Good luck if you need help.
Avoid at all costs! He is unclear in class, rude and mean during office hours, and his exams are impossible. I am a good student, but this guy was just impossible. He should not be allowed to teach! His heavy accent also sounds like Sebastian from "The Little Mermaid."
My favorite professor at Stockton. He is not rude, but expects academic integrity and thoughtfulness from students. When you do or say stupid things, he'll call you on it. Great professor to learn from, but you have to be willing to actually learn. Isn't that what education is about?

He was very nice and all but you did have to do a lot of the stuff on your own. He gives take home quizzes every friday but they take you like 2 hours to do like 10 questions cuz you have to figure it out all yourself. Tests are almost impossible but he
He helped me alot. Was there when I needed him and was alwyas open and warm to me. A good teacher who is willing to help you even after you graduate.
He explains everything and as long as you pay attention his accent is not that hard to get by. His tests are not impossible and when i was working on the lab in the hallway he was walking by and he helped me out. He is a great teacher and i am looking forward to taking him next year.
Very cool guy. He does a lot of example problems in the class and can follow along by just printing out the notes off of Web CT. Take home quizzes every week. His accent makes you pay attention.
Very hard! You better be a chem whiz and have a translator with u!
Hard to understand first few classes, but knows his stuff. Take home quizzes, but hard exams.
doesnt speak english
he's not hard,he tries to make it easy. He's definitely better than most chem IV teachers. he's a nice guy too and quite
This teacher is the best. Also acts as a wonderful mentor for students. The subject matter that he teaches is difficult within itself but he is a teacher in every sense of the word. Thank you Mr Barlett for your help.
Just do Barlatt's homework and you will do good. People that say he is hard because they dont even have a CHEM BOOK! So, just do your work and ask a lot of questions. Do the work and he'll give you a A- or B+
nice professor who curves 30 pts!!!! a 60 on his exam is a 90, which is an A
just do his work and you should be perfect
I thought i was failing his class, but i have a B!!!!!!!!! barlatt is the mannnn!!!
He is a great teacher! I was nervous to take him with his accent but it helps you to pay attention! Test's aren't hard if you do the problems at the end of the chapter and look over your quizzes! Great guy!
barlatt is kinda hard to understand. He is not a hard prof. for chem 4. Do what he says and you'll pass. Overall, cool guy and very intelligent. And a very nice guy who always welcomes questions.
i took chem in highschool so i knew what i was doing(probably the reason i got an A). He explains things, but not too thoroughly.gives take home quizes which really help, but his exams are a little hard. you have to do the questions at the end of the chapter. he gives a make up exam to replace ur lowest score and he curves.

if you hate chem, suck at chem, need any kind of extra help, get sick a lot or dont wake up for class, dont take him. he doesnt help at all and only makes people cry (true story). if you have questions his answer is always 'do practice problems'. this class took up more of my time than the rest of my classes combined
Don't listen to the person behind this post. Dr. Barlatt is a very good professor and goes through things IN-DEPTH. He is a little hard to understand due to the fact he is from Sierra Leon, but he has very good teaching methods and his take home quizzes are very helpful to your grade.
he is an awesome teacher! he is always there outside of class if you need help with anything. his tests arent bad as long as you do the assignments and especially the problems at the end of the chapter. wish i could take more classes with him!

Exams not harder than weekly take home quizes. Very clear, goes over questions. Curves fairly.
Wonderful person and extremely helpful to students that work hard. Dr. Barlatt is an excellent chem professor! My favorite quote: "You learned that in kindergarten!"
tough to understand, doesn't give any study guide for real hard exams most of class fails them......****ed comments, and very condisending to students
great professor, helps you at any time. His tests are hard!!! So, read the book and do your homework.
This man is awesome! He is very funny and has lots of sarcasm in his lectures. He is very serious about chemistry, so dont slack off or you WILL fail. His tests are pretty hard and quizzes are easier. If you have an interest with Chem, take this Prof. great guy!
If you are a genius, this is the guy for you. But if you want to learn, take someone else. He is very sarcastic and he puts you down if you don't know something. He doesn't explain things thoroughly and his office hours suck. Also, if you hate online homework, do not take him. Beware of his big fish lips too!
I was interested in majoring in chem... not anymore. very hard, very inconvenient tests. he assigned exam 3 the day before the final exam. doesn't go over any problems individually if you don't understand. always 5-10 mins late to class. no study guides. TIMED hwk assignments almost every night. avoid if possible. i almost killed myself studying.
very, very helpfull but his tests are hard. Attendance is mandatory. Love his joks !!! Great professor!!!
if you're like me and have never taken chem before, prepare to be confused. moves VERY quickly. his accent isnt that bad. attendance mandatory. wileyplus is mandatory, and is timed and graded. sucks. multiple choice is a killer on his tests but overall not a bad teacher. 3 exams and a final. i learned a lot through hard work and i'm glad it's OVER!
I didn't have a problem with this prof when I took him for chem I but chem IV has been terrible. His tests are too long for the time given, he does not review, and students typically do so poorly that he curves 15-20 points. Does not listen to students either, which results in a lot of arguing all the time!
HORRIBLE!!!!! exams wayyy to long...timed hw...accent...he move way to fast for beginner chem. expected you to know something the first time he showed it to you...no room for error either...your graded on the hw quizes and the exams
I was pretty much on the road to failure in his class but once I went to his office he tried his best to get me to understand the material. He also went above and beyond as far as helping me figure out a better suited major for me. Most people get the wrong impression of him but he really just wants his students to be successful. He has no proble
I didn't think class with this man would be that bad. I have a 3.7 GPA and this class was the hardest so far and I will most likely get a C. He doesn't take time to go over problems and if you do poorly on one test it doesn't matter how good your other grades are he thinks you don't care. He is also extremely rude in his office AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I read through some of these comments and I have to laugh. Some of you are happy about paying for this? Does he even know the subject he is teaching? What a waste of money and time.
Barlatt is a really caring teacher. He cares about the student and really wants to help them learn. However, that doesn't mean you'll actually learn. In order to pass his class, you need to not only come to class but you have to REALLY understand it. Good luck if you decide to take him!
This guy isn't the easiest teacher at all but he is given an unfair reputation. Chem 4 is hard...it is...it takes practice, and this guy wants you to do well. Go to class pay attention and ask questions until you understand and come see him before the tests and ask more questions. It helps big time. Challanging but doable. gotta A hate chem
I've taken Barlatt for both chem 1 and chem 4. His class is hard if you've never taken chemistry before. He is also hard to understand and sometimes teaches quickly. You MUST come to class and pay attention. Also, ASK questions if you don't understand. But I adore him. Even if you're passing or failing, he is always willing to help.
Can't understand him. Horrible class. Doesn't explain notes at all. Quiz every night. just terrible
Love his accent. listen to the way he says, "molecules." most students cant understand him. I understood him well and at times he may move fast, but overall he was a good teacher. As long as you pay attention and keep on top of quizzes you'll be fine. sit up front and maybe you'll have a better time understanding.
HORRIBLE!!!! accent makes it insanely hard to understand whats going on...you have to teach yourself!!!
Its a hard class but thats what chem is. He gives daily quizzes online, which suck but help student understand the material. His accent is actually pretty funny. Overall not a bad teacher.
Extremely hard to understand. Gives Wiley quizzes on topics he never taught in class. Refuses to do a problem in class even though the whole class asks him too. Extremely negative and condescending, relies way too much on Wiley, and does very little preparation before class. Rushes you through problems and through the test. Horrible.
Barlatt is a little hard to understand at first but his accent is easy to get used to. Quiz after every class on wiley (do it with your friends, they aren't that hard!) Some people complained that he didn't teach us everything fully but those were the people who didn't study the textbook. Use your book! Barlatt is a good teacher, go to class!
Awful. Thick accent. Rushes through material. Exams are too long for the allotted time. Put me to sleep at 8:30 AM. I was basically failing all semester long and I got a C. Sowers was better.
Easy for lab, hard for lecture. He has a thick African accent so it can be tough to understand at first. For lab its not too much work, and sometimes I argued with him about my grade and he would bump it up.
Started off doing bad in his class then i got the two highest testscores two times in a row and that was only after meeting with him after the first test. He is one of the nicest and most helpful teachers at stockton. Take him. Just work hard.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! and a very nice guy! I dont understand why people rated him poorly on here, its just really unfair. I failed all my exams with rogerson and then 3 semesters later I took him and what can i say, such a great TEACHER! Go to class everyday, understand and do and study the wiley plus! its really easy! just practise & u will get an A!
He is a really nice professor and cares about the class, but sometimes students do not understand. I think it got a bit dull in class sometimes, but he really cares and tries. I'd recommend him to anyone who would want to get an A and understand some/most of the material
Professor Barlatt's methods are conducive to learning. He has a great way of using simple analogies to connect the basics of chemistry so that it is much easier to understand. EVERYTHING on the exams is covered in lecture. WileyPlus quizzes are helpful. He provides study guides on Blackboard and always makes himself available. Take him!
unfair grader and never explain anything clearly dont take him for lab or lecture
This guy has some serious problems with the english language. Had to get a tutor. Assumes that you know more than you do. Smart guy, but incomprehensible and very unclear.
I don't know why some of these reviews are so bad. He's a good professor as long as you put in the effort. His accent isn't difficult to understand. If you took high school chem, the class should not be difficult. Try to do the online quizzes by yourself. If you can't, the exams will suck. Show him you're trying and he'll be easier on your grade.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He speeds through information and does not teach! He will go through 30 powerpoint slides in 5 minutes and expect you to know it all. The whole class may have a question, but he will tell you to look it up in the book. He is extremely unclear, unhelpful, and can be very rude at times. Worst teacher I have ever had!!
The textbook does a better job teaching than him. I had to teach myself everything. He rushed through material. Avoid him if you can.
This professor does not explain things completely. You have to teach yourself with the book. He rushes through his power points. His accent is not that hard to understand but it is a little bit on the annoying side. I would suggest not taking this professor.
Don't take him.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. do not take him unless you are okay with teaching yourself really difficult material. Not helpful at all. Seriously don't take him. You've been warned!
