I took Professor Dacontos Healing Racism and Social Injustice in Fall 2020. She is genuinely one of the best professors at Adelphi University. I never had such a kind, caring, and intelligent, great professor. The passion she had for the subject matter makes her class all the more interesting. If you take her class, you will not be disappointed!!!
Professor Daconto is a very caring professor & you can tell how genuine she is from the moment you enter her class. She welcomes everyone into a warm comfortable environment & allows us to have a space that is accepting. She encourages all points of view and encourages us to be better individuals and to make a change. Highly recommend & will love!
Professor Daconto is literally the sweetest professor. She is understanding and is very open and passionate about social justice issues. She is a lenient grader and her class is not work heavy at all. I wish every professor at Adelphi was like her. She does make you work for the grade but it's not hard work nor busy work. It is very manageable.
Prof D has made all of us go out of our comfort zones to places that I never thought I could go. We are family in her class because she has given us the tools to listen, speak & hear each other. During presentations, classmates have talked about their lives and thanked Prof D. for allowing us the space to share details that they never could before.
Professor Daconto is super caring, she is considerate and is very passionate about her students. She is passionate about social justice issues and is very open about it. Attendance and participation is apart of your grade so show up and you'er good. She is super cool and Its an easy A!!1
Honestly one of the best prof I have ever had. She really cares for her students from the bottom of her heart. Very understanding and very helpful when students are in need. Will give extensions if you ask. I learned a lot in her class and she was very accepting of everyones opinions. 10/10 class, would take it again every year if I could.
Get ready for the best semester with this professor. Not only is she caring but she is the most amazing professor ever. Very understanding and does everything for the students. She deeply cares for her students and helps her students in any way not just academically. SHE' BEST. TAKE HER!!!
Class ended tonight & it was really sad to say goodbye. We have built an amazing connection with each other & its because Prof. Daconto has allowed us space for acceptance & openness. If you are looking for a class that is totally different than any other one you will take, this is the one. Be ready to have conversations that are hard but needed!
OMG! GREAT CLASS!!! Can I continue to take the class again and again? Really inspirational and you leave with so much everyday knowledge on social justice issues. Beyond an amazing professor!
By far 1 of the best classes & Professors. Caring, thoughtful,& considerate of all her students. Has high standards as far as the quality of the work but will meet with you 100 times if necessary for you to be successful. The conversations were on topics that most try to avoid but we all respected each other & I grew a lot from this class TAKE CLAS
My eyes have been opened to many things. She approaches her class with an open heart, open mind, and a judgment-free zone. Topics ranged from mass incarceration to LGBTQ rights, Women's rights, & most importantly about the real history of America. She is super knowledgeable & should be teaching more classes like this! The class should be mandatory
I am amazed by what I am learning in this SJ class & how open I have become to other views that I wasn't aware of prior to this class. She makes all of us feel important & really wants every point of view to be heard. Each week we have new social justice topics & she throws out questions that make you pause, think, & voice. GREAT PROFFESSOR/ CLASS
1 of the best courses I have taken! She is remarkable! Filled with lots of info on many social justice issues. U immediately know she means what she says and wants real change! She is open and when I took her we really talked about deep stuff. She made herself available based on our needs! I keep emailing her to teach more courses. Need more of her
This class and this professor were amazing! You discuss important social justice issues every week, all points of view were welcome. You have to have your camera on and be ready to participate, but it's the type of class where you're excited to join. wish I could take more courses with professor Daconto
As we are just finishing her course I am sad because she only teaches this course. WHY? We need professors like her because she values all of us and her dedication to social justice is like one I have never witnessed. She is available at all times and I mean that! She does mental health checks and she asks us each week if WE ARE OKAY? Sad to leave!
I love her so much. Her class is fun, we all participate and she lets us guide the class. She is so smart and more than prepared to lead the class, but she lets us have engaging, academic conversations about current events and policies and anything that interests us. Attendance is huge but she makes the class worth coming to.
How can a professor make a difference through zoom? Dr. Daconto can and has! The only professor that I have met that can do this. She cares so deeply that she gets to know all of us individually and makes a point to ask us how we are feeling mentally, She has an open-door office hours policy (nights and weekends). GREAT COURSE - PHENOMENAL PERSON
OMG, Why do we have to leave this class. I am going to miss Dr. D as she has been so informative, inspirational, and a person who really cares about her students. She is super knowledgeable and Adelphi doesn't even know how lucky they are to have her! Can I take this course again? TAKE HER and immerse yourself with the uncomfortable conversations!
It is Christmas Eve & Dr. Daconto reached out to me tonight as I have been having some issues that I felt comfortable discussing with her. Stayed on the phone with me for over an hour as we discussed these trying times. She made me feel heard & really grateful, to be honest. She goes above & beyond and has a way of making everyone feel special.
Amazing class and an amazing professor. She somehow got to know each of us and made sure to come online early to chat with us. There was not one class where she didn't stay late to finish conversations with those of us that wanted to stay. She goes above and beyond and is by far my favorite professor. I want to take more of her courses. PLEASE!
This course helped me speak about things that I felt uncomfortable about, The professor made it a safe place for all of us to be heard. BC of the course, I feel that we have the power to make changes through being active and heard. Prof D brought up valid points and arguments that create dialog to allow us to see all sides. AWESOME PROF & COURSE!
The best of the best! A professor you need to take before you leave Adelphi! Best class I have taken so far!
Took this class years ago was 1 of the best classes I have taken. I rec. this to everyone and they all thank me. She is amazing & the class phenomenal. She is current & extremely knowledgeable in SJ issues. She makes this course exciting & gets all of us involved in class discussions. The topics are uncomfortable but she has an ease about her
What I love about her is that she does these mental health checks, sending us a quick text or email. I took the class online, & somehow she always knew when I wasn't okay. She looks at us & just sees our reactions. Before you knew it, I would get an email of hope. We would talk & I felt like someone really cared, & she does! U MUST TAKE THIS CLASS!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Cares about every one of her students. Super interesting and laid back class, looked forward to it every time
I had this professor a few years ago & thought about her today because I was enrolling in classes. I am annoyed because it seems she is only teaching 1 course (which was so good). TAKE HER AND SIGN UP QUICKLY. She is very kind, caring & really is so thoughtful about how she approaches difficult topics. She is very OPEN to learning from her students
Was looking to take her again for another course, but only see the 1 I took already. Need professors like her that are caring, on point, & gets us to be heard. She knows her stuff & when she is unsure of a fact, she gets you the answer. You MUST participate, & honestly, you will want to. Structured yet so flexible - makes the course so interesting,
It is rare to have a professor who cares outside the classroom walls. I had her several years ago, & was surprised by an email from her asking me how I was doing & sending me an article on a SJ issue I am passionate about. The email amazed me on its own, but to remember what I was interested in and then send it to me, represents who she is-AWESOME
This course granted me the importance of understanding other people's viewpoints & have mutual respect for others. Dr. D encouraged us to voice personal opinions & feel comfortable saying them. Because of her openness, I developed the comfortability to tell my story. This was the only class I genuinely enjoyed and looked forward to it every time
Dr. D requires everyone to keep a journal. At first,I wasn't thrilled until I realized that I was able to articulate certain opinions/emotions through my writing. This was something that Dr. D said would happen if we fully engaged in the process. She gave an enormous amount of feedback & added some great resources. She is one of the best professors
Why doesn't she teach more classes? Can we get her to teach more social justice courses? She is amazing, she is caring, she is knowledgeable, and she represents hope. You will not be disappointed, I have already taken 2 of her classes and I don't see any more from her!
So it's day 1, and I am in love with her! She is so open and approachable. You can just sense this kind soul of hers and I know this is going to be a great semester. I have taken many courses here, and this is the first one that I felt so good about as a day 1 course. Usually day 1 is boring and mundane, but she made it fun and I can tell that this
I have taken some heavy participation matters courses, but never felt as comfortable as I do in Dr. Daconto's class. She has a welcoming approach. Always stays after class to continue conversations and do check-ins. She is funny, extremely approachable, and she is super knowledgeable. She wants us to know that we have the power to change the world.
How many professors are willing to meet nights and weekends and help you with things that do not pertain to class? She does! She cares so much about her students and she has an amazing heart! I am learning so much in this class and even though we are not done yet, I just had to post. We need more classes from her and need more allies like her xox.
There are not enough words to tell you what I think of her. She goes above and beyond for her students. She is a shining star and she needs to teach more classes. What I have learned in one semester will last me a lifetime. She is open, kind, caring, thoughtful, funny, and knows her stuff! You'll regret not taking her course, it took me 3 tries!
Professor Daconto is the sweetest and caring professor ever. There are a few papers due and during class you just watch videos and talk about it. Participation matters and so make sure to participate. I learned so much in this class. Take her and the class!!!
Participation matters, a lot, and she makes that clear. You get that grade at end of the course. I was ok bc I talked a lot, but 1 of my friends didn't talk at all and received a low participation grade (haha, we all were warned!) She is awesome, knows her stuff, introduces great social justice topics. We are trying to get her to teach more, she shoul
Unarguably the best professor I've ever met. Goes above and beyond for her students and is very empathetic to their needs. Dr. Daconto opened my eyes to various social injustices and facilitated an environment where we could comfortably discuss them. She was easy to talk to and made sure every student's voice was heard. An absolute jewel.
One of the most informative and impactful courses I have taken in college so far. Dr. Daconto is so caring and truly cares for her students. She is a very inspirational woman and I promise you will walk out her class learning so much. She is super approachable and is one of those professors that are always there to listen and check in with you.
A little jelly that classes start tomorrow & I can't take her course again. Was probably the best professor I have had thus far. Very knowledgeable about SJ issues, but more importantly, her heart is huge & she truly cares about all of us. I was going through something and it was a Sat. night & she called me & just listened, she was there for ME!
As I prepare for another semester, I am longing to take her class again. Do you think anyone at the university reads this because if you do, she needs to teach more classes? She continues to reach out to me bc I went through some things, that's amazing that she has the time & remembers my journey, Caring, kind,on-point, welcoming,& a real advocate!
Had to do a research paper. The feedback that I received was well over a page long. She touched upon all the important key pieces in the paper & added so many valuable tidbits about my topic. Also gave great advice on research papers going forward. Never had a professor give this much feedback. Feels good to know she actually reads the work assigned
She is awesome, kind, caring, & knows her stuff, Expects a lot of participation because we discuss topics first 30 minutes of class then get into a circle & discuss/debate. Does give a participation grade. If you are shy about talking about social justice issues, then this might not be for you. Lot of work, stay on top of assignments or fall behind
AWESOME! She expects a lot as far as participation, & honestly, thats what the class is about, allowing students to debate these uncomfortable conversations. She begins with the topic discussing key facts (she knows a lot!) then we get into a circle & then the magic begins! She is fair, available day & night,& gives a tremendous amount of feedback.
Professor Daconto creates a safe space or EVERYONE!!!!!!! The best professor I have had at Adelphi!
As I am about to start a new year, I am sad that Dr Daconto doesn't teach more courses. Without realizing it, she prepared me for some tough conversations that I had & I remember how she taught us to navigate conversations as a give-and-take as opposed to an attack of opinions. For the first time I was able to address social injustice with confiden
FREAKEN AMAZING!!!! Participation is heavy but you want to talk because the topics are important and current and it's our world that this crap affects! Actually, we all wanted to talk, so take her, she is awesome and kind and mad respected! I want to take another class with her.
Best professor I had! Truly cares about each student & our well-being. She is transparent, beyond inspirational,& creates a safe space for all of us .Final presentations were transformative. We were able to discuss things that I would have never talked about in front of strangers, but we became family bc of her & the environment she created for us
Left class last night hugging each other & wishing the class would never end. She is AMAZING,kind, caring, goes above & beyond & shows respect & love to each of us.The safe space she has created is something I have never experienced in any other class EVER! Could text her at 11pm with a question, & she would call back concerned about ME! Teach more
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT ADELPHI!!!!!! AMAZING CLASS!
What more can I say here, SHE'S FREAKIN AMAZING!!!!
It hasn't even been 3 weeks into the semester and I've already made my decision that I like her.
I totally love her. She cares about us,it shows through her check-in during class and if you are going through something. This didn't affect me, but she warned us about two things. PARTICIPATION REALLY MATTERS, and NO USE OF AI. My friend handed in a paper which she used AI and Prof D caught it. She does read every paper, so if you use it, DON'T
Spent over an hour with her discussing my final project on a Saturday night at 11 PM! Makes herself available almost always. She is awesome, caring & knows what she is talking about. She is an activist and is very involved in what matters most to our world. You must participate & don't disrespect her with AI, she reads everything & will catch it.
Kind, caring, and always concerned about her students. She is really one of the best professors I have ever had and you are missing out on a great class. The class is very participatory and that is a must. You really need to talk and you should want to. I was shy at first but then she encouraged us that we needed to be heard and our opinions matter
The bad news is that the class is too large!!! The good news is that Professor Daconto teaches it!
This professor is definitely one of the best here at Adelphi. Very caring and considerate. PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT NO JOKE!!! Good amount of work that won't stress you out with other classes. LOVE HER.
I learned about the real issues bc she goes deep into each topic & makes us push the conversations to create a dialog that includes all perspectives. She is very knowledgeable of social justice issues. She's passionate & very caring. You MUST participate & you MUST attend class. Points are deducted off your average, which she does warn you about,
She is awesome. Knows so much about current issues encourages us to continue to learn through class dialogs. She will deduct points off if you don't participate. If you are absent more than twice (I think) then you do get a deduction in your grade. This happened to me. Also, the class is what you make it, TALK & get involved-bc then we all learn.
Easiest class. Says participation matters A LOT but I barely participated and still got an A+. 3 journal entries, art project for the midterm and a 15 min final presentation (just present early - she'll grade easy) Really sweet and is passionate about the class. ALWAYS available to talk- literally just email or text her. Def take for easy credits.
Dr. Daconto is a rude and passive aggressive toward you. She will get mad if you are 2 seconds late and will mark you absent. Attendance is MANDATORY. All of the classes consist of videos and discussing, you will not learn anything. She makes you do 3 journals but you have to pick 3 different things for 1 journal.
I think Dr. D is outstanding. She is kind, caring, and accessible most nights and weekends. I read below that a sour student (same one, posted twice) called her a Karen! Are you serious? Far from it, she is an ally. I was in class with this student, & she was the one with an attitude problem. Her class is one-of-a-kind.
The class was amazing. It was informative, I learned a lot about our prison system and various social justice topics. The class is informal, but it can get intense. The workload is what you expect from a college class, and she spreads it out so it doesn't hit you all at once. She even has a reminder sheet! I liked her honesty and candor. AWESOME
She is invested in all her students and it shows through her concern for us as individuals. Lots of great feedback and available to talk after class but also after her ordinary hours. I would take another course with her again!!
SAFE SPACE!!! Need I say more?
I thought she was great. She creates a nice loving environment, which I needed for my first year away from home. She did check-ins with me & we had some nice convo's after class. She gives a lot of her time. The bad thing is that the class is really large, & I prefer smaller classes, she made it work as we got into a circle to discuss hard topics
One of the best parts of her class is how much she encourages our opinions. Don't be shy, it benefits you to speak up. So many students shared their thoughts & experiences, & we got to hear a wide range of perspectives. It made the class feel real and relevant. Everyone's voice matters, & she creates a space where it feels safe to speak honestly.
It's clear that she genuinely cares about her students—not just academically, but personally as well. She goes above & beyond to ensure everyone feels supported, heard, & motivated to succeed. Whether it's taking extra time to explain complex concepts, offering guidance outside of class, or providing encouragement during challenging moments,AMAZING
Her superpower is her authenticity!!!! You cannot ger any more real than Daconto!
I am in her class now, Fall 2025, and I had to write. I am struggling a bit and was confused about an assignment. Not only did she respond to every one of my MANY emails, but she called me on a Saturday and walked me through the entire assignment and would not hang up until I felt I could proceed with the assignment. It's Saturday, man! LOVE HER!
Incredible professor goes above & beyond for her students. Genuinely cares, reaches out w/wellness checks, meets on weekends when we need support, & always taking a real interest in our lives & goals. Her dedication, compassion, & passion for teaching make her truly one of the best. Teach more classes bc every student deserves a professor like her.
Hard to put in a few words, but she is beyond incredible.I have learned so much in her class. She is knowledgeable, well prepared, & allows us to share our life struggles related to SJ issues, but also with life issues. She has helped me immensely past class hours with a sensitive thing I was going through. What professor checks in nightly? She did!
She reads everything, unlike some of my other professors. She gives so much written feedback from the written assignments, & it was helpful for me to realize some of the mistakes I made & also how to become a better writer. Each week we have a different topic & we dive in with a short video & we get into a circle & discuss as a class. PARTICIPATE!
The best of the BEST!!!! She deeply cares and creates a loving and open environment for all her students. Her class is great but she is even better!
I have never had a professor that literally cared so much about each of her students. Before class started she would try and sit at one of the tables to chat and make those important connections. I would see her come in and ask students how they were doing, if they passed the test they were stressing about, and how their week was. BEYOND CARING!
The kindest and most caring professor I ever had. We need to clone her! I have learned so much from her, and part of it is because she is who she is; the other part is that she creates a warm, inviting atmosphere in the class. It is a community! Take her at least once while at Adelphi!
Dr. Daconto has the most beautiful and caring soul. I genuinely enjoyed coming to class. It was light work and mostly group discussions in class about current events. Daconto is such a caring and understanding person. Participate and stay engaged and u will get an A+ for sure.
If you want a white savior as a professor, this is her. She has no care for actual poc students and acknowledging our lived experiences. She wants doctors notes if you're out sick, and if you commute she doesn't care about traffic or train delays, she'll take points off your grade.
Stunned by whoever said she doesn't care. Thats a bitter student Have never had a professor who is more caring. Had to call her nights as I was going through things & she listened, who does that? So if you are leaving a review, be honest, yes, you';re deducted points for being late & requiring a doctor note. Thats what her syllabus says, c'mon now!
Dr. Daconto is the best! She's extremely caring, empathetic, and knowledgeable. She always makes a safe space for students to speak on their experiences and fosters a proper environment for respectful discussions/disagreements. When she grades, she gives the most thoughtful and constructive feedback. She is understanding of students circumstances!
The best of the best. Kind, inspirational, caring, and goes above and beyond.
What sets this professor apart is her genuine care. She provides thoughtful & constructive feedback,& pushes everyone to grow while still feeling supported.Incredibly dedicated, going beyond what is required. This is the kind of professor who leaves a lasting impact, inspires students to do their best, & should absolutely be teaching more classes.
Dr. D truly goes above & beyond in every possible way. She is deeply invested in her students' success, not just academically, but personally. She takes the time to check in on students' well-being, offers one-on-one meetings outside of class hours, and is always available for guidance & support. She gave me an inspirational letter that helped me a
A built-in community because of her gentle and kind soul.
She is an ally! She is an activist. She supports ALL of us.
Incredibly kind and dedicated professor who truly cares about her students. She goes above and beyond to support learning, create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment, and ensure every student feels seen and valued. Her passion, empathy, and commitment have a lasting impact that extends well beyond the course. Course is great, so is she
An incredibly dedicated and thoughtful professor who genuinely cares about her students' learning and growth. She fosters a respectful and engaging classroom environment, always willing to offer guidance, clarification, and support. Her passion for social Justice and commitment to fairness made this course both challenging and rewarding. LOVED IT!!
I have never received so much feedback in my life. She really reads everything. Do NOT use any AI, just write everything yourself. She then responds to what you wrote with what she liked and how you can improve, as well as other resources that you can look into to. She is a kind and caring woman and I learned a lot from her class.
Very cool class. She ensures that all students feel seen & heard, creating a warm & inviting space where talking feels natural & encouraged. She emphasizes that our voices matter, which made me feel more comfortable. I was nervous at first, she consistently validates our experiences, feelings & encourages us to share so we can learn from one another
Professor Daconto validates different perspectives, and foster an class where she welcomes everyones perspectives are welcomed, and actually encouraged. You have to participate and at first I thought that would be difficult, but she makes it easy. She wants all of us to be heard & seen. I highly recommend her class & any other class she teaches.
I love her!
There are too many wonderful things to say, but the way she values us is different than any other professor I had. She actually sent final feedback that included our grade & actually made sure that we had the same grade that she was entering. She made sure she was accurate, which she is, but it allowed me to review in case something was overlooked!
