good teacher, very understanding, very interesting
He is awesome. Probably the best teacher I've had! The class is hard but only because there is so much to learn! It is very interesting and Vieira makes it fun!
He is a very kind, laid back person. He wants you to succeed and is always willing to answer questions or spend extra time helping you if you need it. It was the hardest class I've ever taken, but I'm glad I did because I feel like I learned a lot. I think I would have hated it if he wasn't such a nice teacher!
AMAZING TEACHER!!! YOU WILL LOVE HIM!
Best teacher at Green River. Take this class. You will never learn more from a professor!! He wants you to succeed, and if you put in some effort, you will. And you'll learn a TON along the way!
He was the worst teacher that I have ever had at my whole career at Green River. He's so fast and doesn't go over things. It was really boring and he was so annoying.
this is the worst teacher i 've ever taken. he himself is not sure about the answers to the questions he ask on the exams. if anyone's taking his class in future which i donot recommend make sure when u check the answers in the book because he doesnt know anything and mark the right question wrong. don't take him for the sake of ur money and time.
Roland has adapted his teaching style to be WAY more student friendly. This class is difficult because of the content but he is clear with assignments (very minimal). And his testing style has changed in a way that will help the students so they can learn and get a good grade. He is very friendly and is willing to help you do well in this class. =)

"Your grade in this course is a direct reflection of the quality and quantity of work you produce." That is a direct quote from the ap206 website. It's very simple, in his class as in life itself. IT TAKES TIME AND EFFORT. Milk your resources if you do not understand such as classmates, MR.VIEIRA, GOOGLE, GOD, and most importantly make it fun!
Hard prof
I had him for BIOL&241 last quarter, and he was a little unclear, but I got used to it. However, this quarter he is also teaching a class in Kent, so he is not always easy to reach. Don't count on him responding to emails... ever, or telling you when exact due dates are. I think he has good intentions, but he is just spread to thin between classes.
He was rather erractic both in his teaching method and in that he would pile superfluous work on that kept us from really learning. Instead of teaching us a basic understanding of the subject and then making us critically think about it, he jumped straight to critical thinking with no basics taught. Stess levels for entire class were at a maximum.
I took him for my first AP class (205). Did not like!I was stressed out for the whole quarter, he doesnt explain things well but expects you to know everything! Not helpful at all.
I took Biol 241 with him, and he is very hard. I never know what to expect. He piles tons of work on you every week, and test are done on the weekends so you never have any down time. I was stressed the entire class. He expects you to know a lot before you get in his class so he doesn't explain in much detail, but expects you to know it by reading.
Great teacher. This class is for people who know how they learn and know how to self-manage their study time. Basic occasional memorization but open book tests-memorize the essentials understand the rest philosophy. the people who complain are the people who dont put the work in. Its a challenging course, rise up to the occasion or dont take it.
I took this class online.. the homework is pretty straightforward, and not too hard.. their are weekly quizes.. not too bad however there are tests every two weeks.. those are a little difficult. The teacher responds very quickly to email however and assignments are very clear.
I learned a lot in his class. He doesn't assign very many outside assignments because, true to college level work, he expects you to be spending 10-15 hours reading and studying the material - not doing busy work. I love the tests being online, and appreciate the lecture overviews. He does not spoon feed you information, he is an effective teacher.
nice enough guy but clueless on how to work with students
HE SKIPS AHEAD QUITE A BIT, AND VEARS OFF SUBJECT. THE HOMEWORK ISNT TOO BAD. QUIZES ARE EVERYDAY AND A WEEKLY TEST. QUIZES DO NOT CONTAIN THE MATERIAL HE PRESSES THE CLASS TO STUDY. HE TEACHES SEVERAL CLASSES SO HE HAS TEACHER ASSISTANTS GRADE HOMEWORK. ITS HARD TO GET A HOLD OF HIM THROUGH EMAIL.
Skips around alot and doesn't test on what the quiz information given. Very frustrating that you can't get ahold of him. I submitted an assignment and didn't get credit as it got 'lost' in Angel. In class quizzes every day and was only supposed to be 125pts and turned out to be 200. Take someone else!
He was extremely helpful to me!Sometimes he acted like a counselor and my teacher.Teaching-wise he is great as well.He gives you homework and lectures based on college level work. All quizzes, homework, and tests are online.Sometimes he'll throw random questions on the quizzes but its expected that we should have read our books.Overall GREAT teacher
Vieira is one of my favorite professors so far! He was always super friendly and willing to help. He lets us know what will be on quizzes and is very passionate about the subject. There are many things you have to memorize though, but overall AP100 was an interesting class and i'm glad I took it with Vieira.
One of the worst teachers I have ever expirenced. He is not clear on anything, he barely teaches, reading the power points to us isnt teaching, he changed the format of our class half way through, gets mad when you quetion him. AP is hard enough with a good teach, if you have the option DO NOT take this class with him. I got A but w/alot of stress.
HARDER than it needed to be, he was great for the 1st quarter and half the 2nd then he changed his format. He became erratic with his lectures, unorganized and the tests became impossible. Insane work load over 30+ hours a week. I would not reccomend Dr. Vieira.
Very unorganized. It's confusing having to go to so many places to find your work and grades. Not to mention nothing was posted about grades or how to do anything until five weeks into the course.
I really enjoyed this class. I took Mr. Vieira for 2 quarters. I found him helpful. If you were struggling in the class he would work with you.The work load is a lot however, if you put the work in you will pass the class. We had guest speakers and our class got to see a cadaver! This class was great.
I have taken Biology 241 and 2412 with Vieira and I would highly recommend taking this teacher, he is by far one of the nicest teachers at Green River. Do not expect this course to be easy, but if you put in the effort you will be rewarded. This teacher really taught me how to study properly.
He is extremely unorganized and difficult. 5 students could ask him the same question to receive different answers. He assigns far too much homework and expects more than a typical college prof.
Does not know how to use the college website. Does not respond to emails. Uses book website to teach entire course. Makes the class hard, probably for the sheer fun of it, because he doesn't teach you anything himself and probably doesn't even know how to use his computer correctly. Take his classes if you enjoy being ignored and hating your life.
I took his AP100 course online, and it has been a nightmare. From the beginning he was never clear on what he expected from us, changed what he wanted us to do all of the time, and he could never give anyone a straight answer. The McGraw Hill Connect site did all of the work, which is a joke. I don't recommend anyone take this course.
DO NOT TAKE. Worst experience I have ever had with a professor. Not clear at all in lectures, bounces around from different topics, notes he makes you copy from him in class don't make sense. You basically learn everything from Mcgraw Hill, he doesn't teach at all. He is really disorganized and gives you way more work than is possible to do.
Worst experience I have ever had with a professor. Really confused the whole quarter, his lectures do not make sense. The McGraw Hill Connect site taught me basically everything. Gives way too much homework. Class was stressful. He's nice but it seems like he has no idea what he is doing.
this class was horrible, there was so much homework and the professor was very disorganized. The notes that he tells us to take in class were super pointless, and you learn everything from the Connect Site. Do not recommend this teacher to anyone.
I am actually suprised with how little I have learned from this class. He is passionate about the subject but he over complicates things, and makes things way harder than it needs to be. Roland is very nice and also soft spoken. I would absolutely not recommend taking this class. We learn everything from the website and the class is fast paced
Has no idea how to use a computer, lets the McGraw site do all the work (and I mean all), never EVER responds to emails, very disorganized and confusing, doesn't help at all. Very unrealistic expectation of time dedicated to schoolwork. If you have a job, don't take this class. If you can take another teacher, do it.
This class is very intense, and Roland Vieira is always there to help.He dedicated his time and encouraged his students to see him; ask questions, quiz, etc. He is very helpful, and I am blessed to have him as my professor!
Roland is a really nice guy & has a passion for teaching & the human body & tries his best to connect with his students but he can be confusing while explaining things in person & he is a bit disorganized when it comes to writing notes on the board. You can learn most of what you need online & the tests are passable. Hes not good with the internet
It amazes me how this guy has managed to maintain a teaching position for so many years. He has a passion for biology, but he has to be one of the worst explainers out there. The disorganized notes on the board aren't much help either. Avoid taking him if you can!
This guy shouldn't even be employed by any school as a teacher. I know that sounds harsh, but if you have suffered through his class, you know where I'm coming from. If you don't, don't bother taking his class to find out.
He's definitely the nicest teacher you'll ever take He was helpful and kind And gives a lot of extra credit Which is great but he's not the best at explaining the material compared to other biology instructors I've had. Inspite of that I think I learned more from this class because I did a lot of research of my own. good luck
I have taken his class for BIO 160 and honestly, I would not take his class if I did not have to. You read everything by yourself, you are your own teacher and the lectures will only reinforce what you should already know. The tests are hard, but he allows study guides. He teaches 3 chapters within a week and there are practicals too.
The class is tough, but it is supposed to be. Roland makes himself available to you at any time to help clarify or answer questions, and if you make the time and the effort, he will reward you at the end of the quarter. Yes, this class takes a lot of focus and dedication, but I honestly feel I am a better student after taking his class.
Roland's classes teach you how to study. You have to work hard, there's a lot of stuff to learn. If you put the time in, and ask him questions, you'll learn more than you thought you ever could. He's also a SUPER nice guy.
A difficult class for sure, but he really cares and helps along the way. Ask questions, lots of them. He will take all the time he can to answer and help you. Studying outside of class is a big must, but there is so much material to get through, you have to be responsible and stay on top of everything. Don't be lazy, and you'll do great!
Professor Vieira outlines what needs to be done to be successful - follow that advice. Students taking this challenging subject must be engaged, diligent and expect to work hard. Consistently goes above and beyond for his students and offers many opportunities to succeed. Incredibly dedicated to his students and preparing them for their profession
By far the hardest class I have taken. He knows everything there is to know, and always willing to take time for you. Class time limited and material vast; one must be a dedicated and self motivated student to get through. Anyone looking for a handout grade don't bother. If you are looking to learn and be challenged and feel accomplished, then do.
the class is difficult only because of the amount of information you have to learn in 12 weeks, but Roland teaching style is great he takes the time answer question and meet after class if you need more individual attention.
One of the most caring instructors that I have ever had. Come to his office hour and keep checking with him on what you are supposed to know for the exam if you are not sure. There's lots of reading however. Have to read to get good grade. Yup, you heard me: reading. You should be responsible for your own studying or you will suffer in this class.
I took both BIOL 241&242 with Roland and it was both challenging and frustrating. He does take time outside of class to talk with students and seems to care about his students success. However he doesn't do much to facilitate that success. Unclear on what material you'll be tested on and my best advice is to try and take this with another professor
He is caring, but his explanations are difficult to understand. The book is your best friend, and if you get the chance to get tutored in biology that will also help a lot. He does move through chapters fast, so be ready for that.
I know everyone here wants to a nurse or either allied health. But for the love of God, please don't take him guys...
He is very disorganized, doesn't respond to emails. If you are taking his classes at Highline college, he doesn't have office hours. Most of the time he came to lab late & unprepared to teach. You have to do a lot of reading in this class because it's heard to understand his lectures. At lecture, make sure you seat at the front row, he's soft spoke
Highline College students please do not take his class, if I have a choice I would drop his class ASAP. He does have knowledge of Biology, however, he can't teach at all. He has a cute dog but it does not help you to hear what is he talking about nor understand his writing as well. Please please if you come to learn things do not chose him.
He's nice and knows his stuff but he does not know how to teach, his lectures are useless. His tests are passable, but really weirdly structured. His practicals are the hardest. The only reason I didn't drop his class was because he was the only choice I had.
This is my first time to use this rate my professor cause Im warning other student. Avoid taking his class. He got knowlegde but very disorganized and poor grading system.
Roland is a really nice guy, but his lectures are extremely confusing and hes very unorganized. Those two things make it really difficult to learn the key concepts in this class. I am retaking with another professor and shes amazing. I promise you, you do not want to take with Roland if you have any other options.
If you are the type of student who is active & on top of things I think he is an amazing professor. He cares about his students & is honestly pretty lenient & understanding. His lectures & labs are a little disorganized but as long as you are doing the readings before class & studying, he makes things pretty easy. Talking to him daily helps a lot.
Vieira is a VERY disorganized teacher. For his tests, he will tell you what you could expect and what to study. However, a lot of the test questions cover material barely discussed in class. And the stuff he makes you study and memorize? not even on the test. If you actually want to learn anatomy, don't take his class.
I had him for microbiology. This class 100% prepared me for nursing school. However, that's because I literally taught myself everything from the textbooks. The main textbook is amazing, and I still use it. He's a nice man, but his class is disorganized, his lectures vague, and his tests confusing. Be prepared to teach yourself everything.
Read every chapter, lots of hw, lectures make no sense and all over the place, he won't upload the lectures before class as before class he will stamp your own notes, so read book and take notes to get points, test are tough and long and unpredictable. Talking to him after class is not helpful as he is not sure what will be in exam most of the time
His lectures are disorganized so be ready to read every chapter in the book to learn the material. You can't expect what will be on his tests either and they're timed too and he gives about a minute max per question with around 70 questions per test, so there really isn't much time to think about your answers. Overall, be prepared to teach yourself
Test heavy, multiple-choice test is from the book, writing portion test is from the lecture notes, outline. You have to read the book as he uses software to test you. He is a good professor, very humble, always accessible outside the class. If you read the book and go over his outlines and just listen to the stuff he says in class. Youll be fine.
Very unorganized and unclear about expectations for assignments. Assignments changed often and no announcement would be made regarding changes so students were often left confused about what exactly was due. If you are someone who needs very clear expectations, precise direction, and any form of organization in order to succeed, avoid this prof.
Organization is not his strongest suit. However, if you attend the lectures and listen to him intently, he gives out what will be on the tests. Get ready to read the chapters in the textbook 2-3x and you will be fine. He is a very nice guy, approachable and very understanding. Requires that students make their own chapter overviews so it helps.
Roland is an amazing teacher! He can be a bit unorganized, but what biology teacher isn't?! If you show him you care and will go out of your way to learn the concepts ( ask questions after class + form study groups) he will do everything to give you the grade you're striving for. I wish I could have taken him for every BIO class!
Extremely long homework assignments, about 8 different "short" answer questions each which of course broke down into smaller parts, with some being impossible to do on a word doc. He has over 300 emails he hasn't responded to, and the instructions contradict and are super confusing. The syllabus mentions an "optional" tool which isn't optional.
Easygoing on grading, but severely unorganized. Assignment due dates are changed at the last minute, homework questions are vague and confusing, and I'm pretty sure he hasn't read the textbook because I had to search for many answers to homework questions online as they weren't in the book. This class was very frustrating thanks to him.
Roland is a nice enough guy, but he is incredibly disorganized. I could never tell when assignments were due. Lectures aren't helpful so you basically teach yourself. Grading guidelines are unclear. His intentions are good, but his methods are frustrating. This class is hard enough on its own, so if you can take someone else, I would advise you do.
Probably the worst instructor I have ever had. He is a nice guy but it almost seems as if though he sets every student up to fail in his class. Nothing is clear, you have absolutely no idea what to even study, he is disorganized and all over the place. DO NOT take him if you want to do well in biology.
I'll start off by saying that I have no choice but to pass this class no matter how difficult he makes it because I need the credit to transfer. Boy am I working for it though. Rude, especially when he posted a test regardless of saying three days before that there would be no test. Doesn't respond to emails. A mess. I've cried a lot so far.
Professor Vieira is a good man dont get me wrong but a HORRIBLE Professor. He goes over a few sections of the chapter then expects us to complete the rest after lecture. DOES NOT RESPONDS TO EMAILS. VERY DISORGANIZED he doesnt know if he uploaded them or not expects too much from labs and exams to a point that youre not sure your going to pass.
Viera is a nice guy, but without a doubt the worst professor I have ever had. He does not want you to succeed, even if it may seem like it. He is extremely disorganized and his lectures are a waste of time. All the learning is going to be self taught. He is also an extremely tough grader. If you have the ability to take Microbio elsewhere, DO IT
This man is a terrible professor DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He gives you an F and says thats full credit, hes purposely failing students! He says he will do something but doesnt fall through, he doesnt teach nothing! Youre basically self taught! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! I cant emphasized that enough. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR YOU WILL FAIL!
He is nice, but an awful teacher. He is such a tough grader. You don't even get to see what you did wrong, so how am I learning? His assignments are so long and time consuming. He is so disorganized. He will tell you that you have a test only 2 days ahead of time and an assignment 1 day ahead. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS.
Ive had hard professors in the past but I still never dropped out, unfortunately this wasnt the same case with Vieira. The class was very unorganized, tests were ridiculously hard; there was no grading criteria to speak of. Lectures made no sense at all, homework was graded unexceptionally hard. Class was harder than it should be! BEWARE!
He is a tough grader, unorganized, and doesnt answer questions during class. Must attend office hours, study, and listen to him when he speaks. Overall he does care about you and he enjoys getting to know his students. I think he would have been an amazing teacher IN person. I would recommend other teachers for online & take him in person.
Almost halfway through the quarter and I am burnt out from this class. He is genuinely a nice person, but there are better professors for you to choose from for the A&P series. Tests are challenging, and it doesn't help that his grading is confusing. I recommend taking this class by itself for the quarter, for the sake of your mental health..
Your grade is 98 % based on your test scores which are done with lockdown and webcam. He says attendance is mandatory but in the end, only makes up 2% of your grade. No extra credit offered. Does not allow questions during lecture actually ignores questions if asked. WOULD HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND.
Very sweet man, but super unorganized. Switches dates around last minute, the grading is all tests with not much else to break it up, jumps around a lot during lecture, says things will be on the test and then they arent. This class had me so burnt out and frustrated with his methods, the class is passable if you put in 15+ hours a week.
Vieira is a super nice man and really interesting, but I struggled with preparing for the multiple choice parts of the test. He splits tests up MC and Written, the Written is easier but you have very limited time. The MC is hard he also requires lockdown with the camera, so you have to know your stuff.
I feel like Mr. Viera get's a bad rap. His teaching style is somewhat chaotic, but the guidance is there. Pay attention in lecture, read the student notes, do the pearson quizzes, and see him during office hours. You will be fine. Taking a class with him is a brutal wakeup call into seeing your strengths and weaknesses as a student. U earn ur grade
He uses the VB website which is super confusing. He also shows no empathy especially during the times were in. He doesn't care about you or anything else, he expects his class is the only thing that should matter to you. Stay away from him. I have a cried a lot because of this awful, useless, and horrible prof. Shows absolutely no empathy at all!!!
He only read off of the power points and only skimmed over them and expected us to go through the powerpoint after the lecture to fill in the gaps which were too many. He would go too fast in his lectures but even when he was clarifying a subject his abreviations would not make sense. I wish he would give reading material for clarification.
Professor Vieira is a very nice man, but his lectures are not helpful, and tends to change his mind a lot. Even though lectures are not mandatory, definitely go because it will help you in the long run. He is sympathetic and will help you in office hours but if you are planning on taking this class, take it by itself. Trust me on this!!!
He's actually really nice but his live lectures are long.. He goes through his slides really fast so you don't really have enough time to take notes. The tests are hard!! They consisted of two parts: multiple choice and written questions. The written portion is really difficult since you only have 30 mins to answer multiple questions.
Professor Roland is a nice man, but his class is incredibly disorganized and does not clarify any assignments or questions. His tests barely cover any of the material he told his students to cover, and his assignments are just questions from the book. He takes attendance for being in class, but listening to his lectures never helped me learn.
Roland is a very nice guy and means well but his tests are extremely heavy and hard. Each test covers about 3-4 chapters and each chapter is 150-200 pages long.
Do not take this class with this professor. He doesn't care at all. It took him two weeks to answer an email. He doesn't do anything, the classwork grades itself. No instruction from him at all. Used the Visible Body website...it's so confusing.
It takes some time to get used to his teaching style & class structure but once you do its worth it. Pick up on his cues, if he goes into detail about a topic or mentions it a few times then it will be on the test. Pay attention during lectures, he doesnt require every little detail from the book. One HW assignment a week, use it like a study guide
If you aren't willing to put in work, attend regularly, and ask questions this class may be difficult but as long as you attend and pay attention during lecture, take notes, and study you'll do fine. This class is graded heavily on test scores. If you struggle, communicate and he will work with you. Personally I really enjoyed class with Vieira.
While he's a nice guy, Professor Vieira's class style just didn't work for me. He pretty much has Visible Body (required $50 fee) teach you everything. Lots of tests, quizzes, and labs, and his expectations for the labs are not clear. All the answers can be found online, and his tests/quizzes are open note, but there is lots of material to follow.
If you care about your grade, RUN as fast as you can. He is by far the worst professor I have had. He can be so rude and dismissive when you are asking for help and or a question. He is unorganized. And for all the homework assignments you do, they won't help your grade unless you pass the tests. I would not take his class ever again.
Stay clear of this class with this professor. He doesn't care at all. It took him two weeks to answer an email. He doesn't do anything, the classwork grades itself. No instruction from him at all. He doesn't use his own material, he just copy "McGraw" powerpoint and read them to you. What a waste of time!
Worst Professor ever. He doesn't care about your grade. If you don't want to waste your time, effort, energy and money, don't dare take the class with him. He forgets even what he teaches and very unorganized in his own work. Poor delivery. Run when you see his name.
Vague in the study material he claims to have written. Takes a long time to respond to emails. Conflicting information between study notes given and textbook. Has advised to not use outside sources for study as his material contains all you need in order to pass. My best suggestion is to find another professor and avoid his class.
This professor is terrible. Makes us teach ourselves everything through slideshows and outlines. Outlines were very unclear and gave no instructions of what is expected. Takes forever to answer emails and never publishes the work on time. Everything you learn in this class can be found on quizlet. Waster of time.
The class is hard but do able. If he sees you working hard he will have your back. His lectures are a little messy but he is willing to help you if you ask.
Terrible teacher. He requires students to turn in notes based on unclear guidelines. You will often find yourself scratching your head wondering what he means, and there are way too many examples to ask him about every one.
People are kinda harsh. AP is difficult. It's true you'll be confused with some assignments, but some lack to communicate. He accepts late work with corrections-full credit. He lets you try again, he answers questions (better to get him in person), and he brings up your grade by just seeing that you try your best.I hated group presentations though.
,.,.,.,...
Totally agree with a previous reviewer that A&P is definitely a class that requires putting in effort. Get assignments turned in on time, show up to lectures and labs then you should do good. Prepare clarifying questions before midterms and lab practicals and you won't have an issue in this course.
This class is a struggle. The professor relies heavily on the Visible Body website, which is quite confusing. There's lots of assessments, but the expectations are unclear. I found Unstuck study and ChatGPT helpful for preparing, but would avoid this class if possible.
This professor was horrible. He is very particular with what he expects but does not explain what he wants students to do. This is supposed to be an intro class but it's more advanced. His assignment are never clear and it is impossible to get 100% on his assignments. I missed one thing out of 10 and he gave me a 7/10. Do not take this professor.
This professor is terrible! Do not take his class, it will ruin you gpa. No matter what you turn in it is never good enough, his instructions are unclear and he changes assignments after he posts them. He sets unrealistic expectations for an intro to AP class.
A lot to read from the textbook every week, expected 7-10 hours of work on this class alone. Helps if you took a bio class like AP bio. Quizzes every week, his handouts never made any sense, would doc if you didn't format it well, but it's hard to do that when there are four questions in one question. Test had too many questions for too little time
