I walked into Eng 088, annoyed at the fact that I had to take this class. Prof. Jorif is somewhat tough, but very good, he means business, but he can crack jokes in the process. Some of the lessons themselves were interesting, some were a drag. (Example: the pictures of dolphins, bears, etc.) I passed 088 with a very good grade, and am in 095 now.
I had this professor when I had Eng088 and he was really considerate. He was very aware of what indivisuals needed help the most. He was able to acknowledge ones from most needed to less. I wish I had him again for the rest of my Eng courses.
He will help you until you get the work to move to the next level and I took the test one time and pass it and not everybody can say that.
I did not like his approach I find him quite arrogant.
I did not like his style or his approach.
Prof. Jorif is one of a kind, he is a very smart professor.I enjoyed his class because he not only taught me english he taught me life facts. He doesnt read from the books lessons his teach come from his brain. Jorif is a tough grader but only because he wants us to be perfect at what we do. I look forward to taking eng 201 with him next semester.
I had Prof. Jorif for Eng. 201 during the SUMMER. I see so many reviews saying a Professor is rough on you, blah blah. Prof. Jorif cracks jokes, is very sarcastic and cynical. He'll tell you what he wants, how he wants it and let you know if you don't do it correctly. He's a good professor and is willing to help you if you ask.

This class should only be taken by those interested in learning. Keep an open mind and do your work on time. This professor has a lot to offer to the right student.
prof Jorif is an amazing prof I took them two semesters ago and I can't wait to take his class for ENG101and 201 he makes joke to make the class fun and you actually learn and I pass ENG088 when I took th test cause if you want help then he is more then willing to help you and he never gives up on you we still talk as we see each other
I enjoyed Prof R Jorif class , summer 07. He's , willing to help you understand the subject and always there to help you inorder for you to pass the class. If i could take another class he teach, i would. He realy do care about your learning experience.

He's an ok teacher hard to get a 4 on his essays. Didn't really like his class but I passed. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

He is sooooo funnyy!!! makes so many jokes, at first may seem arrogant but this guy is very smart. most of the class he jokes around but when he gets down to business he is very helpful. late most of the time but will make the class interesting.. so worth it!!

He is super intelligent and his lectures are interesting. If you want to learn and prep for the CPE his ways of teaching will help hes not the easiest professor but he makes you learn if you wish to do so
This Professor is absolutly the coolest teacher I ever had.He is very intelligent.He tells you exactly what he wants how he wants it.If you are off track gives it back to you he talks to you explains it again.He makes sure you know what he wants.The is funny and makes the class enyojable.I suggest everybody to take him even in short session.
This is a great class. He is demanding, overbearing, talkative, and he will get you into English whether you like it or not. Majority of the people who did not like his class were the people that were always absent and complained because we had to "read too much". God you read in an English class, right?
Stay away if you care about your GPA! Yes, he's funny and cool, BUT he wants to press you into a tight mold. If you don't write EXACTLY how he wants it, you won't get an A. He ruined my 4.0! He starts class by saying "I don't give As!" . True that! Doesn't allow u to have ur own thoughts/ interpretation.

Teacher in community college do not care about your progress. they are just teaching there becuase it fits into there schedules. Rolando Jorif on the other hand cares for his students. He is a tought professor, but he means well- tough love. He definitely prepared me for the CPE. His teaching style is different but it work. Dont hate on him guys, h
well,I am so surprise that I got a A in his class,honestly I thought he was the kind of professor that does not gives A to anyboby.But I was wrong,he just gives you the grade that you realy deserve.

I don't think he knows how to teach, he is smart but he goes off on tangents that aren't related to the work. Complains about our "public school education". Doesn't explain how to do essays properly and is always changing his mind on how they should be done.

I felt Roland Jorif to be a very bitter man who carried the emotions and experiences of his life around with him in his pocket. He is a decent teacher, fair, honest, but is extremely critical and will make you pay for your mistakes. I would recommend him to only those that are willing to fight hard for a decent grade.
awful professor. goes off on tangents totally unrelated to the material taught. is extremely rude and abrasive. don't take him.
This prof. doesn't understand we can't be perfect at writing even thought I have only 3 years in this country.I wouldn't never recommend him if you have not so much time in the U.S.A I was really surprised with my grade but he is fair enough if you show him that you care.
Roland Jorif is a very smart and funny man. Although most of the time I didn't get it. If your are going to take him, just be prepared to be very attentive and follow his instructioins.He is very demanding and you have to do his assignments the way he tells you to.Just so you know your opinion doesn't matter in writing his papers. Hard to undersatand and doesn't give A's.He's funny and tough but if you're looking for a challenge then take this class. HOWEVER, if you are just taking ENG201 as a gen-ed just for the credit DO NOT TAKE HIM. Also, if you're an ESL student or have trouble with subject-verb-object format DONT TAKE HIM. Gooood luck, you're gonna need it.
It is a great professor. It takes its time to explain every subject it assigns. If you want an A, what you have to do is follow the direccions it gives. Do not get lost by the comment people says. Just listen to the proffesor, and you will get a nice and comfortable grade.
Very helpful and accessible. You will pass his class if you want to pass his class. He is very intelligent and is willing to share that knowledge.

Anyone who says that this professor is unclear is clearly mistaken. If you try to take your bad gramatical mistakes into his class, you will not do well; however, if you erase what you were taught incorrectly and adapt to his correct information, you will be fine. Also, subject, verb, object is the way all sentences are constructed. So learn this.

Be prepared to be randomly called on in almost every class. He is unpredictable, and his mood often changes from funny to belligerent and intolerable. Even so, I enjoyed his class and now that it's over, I sort of miss it. It was funny the way all the students looked at each other whenever he entered the class room. Just try, and you'll pass.

Professor Jorif is like no other. He teaches English as it should be taught. If you want to REALLY learn, then you're in the right place. His diction is next to perfect and he KNOWS his stuff. Listen, follow his instructions and you will get a good grade. He applies everyday life experiences to lessons which makes his classes interesting and funny.
Not recommend, he is very smart and funny guy, but he is not good teacher.you will hear a lot of his life stories and his jokes, but not really help your English. Each of our paper in this semester only has one draft, and it's so hard to understand his hand writing on our paper.

He is one of the best english professors at BMCC. I sat in on one of his classes, and he simply asks for paragraphs each week... Not papers. The responses, such as, " lots of home work," is from delusional students who belong in high school. Take this professor if you want to learn... If you do not, take another...
He was funny at first. This was a summer class. He talks alot about his social life, He didn't teach us anything. He gives no rewrites or extra credits. Also his handwriting is had to understand. please don't take him. As you only will have C grades. So I have to retake this course.

This teachers form of lecture is threatening to fail the class every other day. This is a discouragement to those in my class. It's no wonder why so many students drop out of BMCC. He is widening the achievement gap. We are hear to learn. We may fail along the way but TEACH us the correct path. Don't threaten us.

If I had words to describe Professor Jorif teaching in BMCC awful, horrific, dreadful. The worst professor to have if taking English 201. He just talks about himself. Thinks it is the era of shakeshepre. The only good thing about his class is his jokes but sometimes is not even funny. My prayers are with you if you have him as a professor.
He is the worst professor ever who intimidates students and kills their motivation. He is not even worth 1, but that is the smallest grade here. Your time is valuable, Don't waste it there. I would rate him 0 if that was possible.
If you don't like being intimidated, do not take this class. Prof. Jorif is not trying to intimidate you, it is just his personality. Also, if you take things very seriously do not take his class, he likes to joke, but don't take anything he says about you seriously. Teaching wise, he's alright. He knows a lot about everything.

Prof. Jorif is very intelligent. He does not seem to tolerate those who are not there to learn.(that makes sense) if you put in effort and listen to his insruction, you will do well in his class.

He will not give you feed back on your papers. He just says that the paper is wrong. I will not take him away, the point of a professor is to encourage and help you improve as a student. However he is a very funny and intelligent teacher.
Dr. Jorif is a very professional and funny professor. He is very difficult because he is very diligent when it comes to grammar. For you to get an A, you only need to do WHAT EVER HE ASKS FOR. He likes the subject verb object sentence. People who are writing negative comment about him are not correct. His main goal is to teach you how to write!!

I took him in Fall 2016. He's absolutely wonderful! One of the most challenging professor I have ever had. He's hilarious as well as witty. Don't be intimidated by his bullying because he teases for fun to keep the class interesting.
Professor Jorif is by far one of the rudest professors. He has no teaching style. Never gave a single lecture. He needs to be fired because, all he did was ridicule students. I asked for feedback & he does not tell you anything. He talks about his life for the entirety of the class duration. Half of the class dropped him due to lack of teaching.

Dont waste your time with this prof. He is horrible. Not much paper work but a hard grader & the writing is all about how he wants it & his understanding of the reading seems to be on his own depths. Just Horrible!! I have never seen such a horrible one in the years I have attended college. I followed his rules and still have an ugly grade.
I would not recommend to take him. He doesnt really care about students. All he does is just talking about everything during the class. I passed this class only because I did all studying on my own. Every class was like a hell, couldnt wait till class was finished. However, he is always in nice mood.
very hilarious and friendly. You must do his homeworks! Gotta participate or else you will miss a lot. Answer questions in class or else he might dismiss the class before time xD literally dismisses class if nobody answers his questions. He would grade me bad and if I ask what I need to improve about my writings, he would say to go to tuition . :/
He is a challenging professor, but you will learn a lot. If you are up for the challenge, I would recommend him.

I will not take away the knowledge that this professor has. But he is disrespectful. He passes it off as sarcasm and joke but there are so many things that one person can let pass by. If i could have taken another professor i would have. no mincing words here; Jorif's class is hard. i thought i knew how to speak english until i got to his class. lol. i would be lying if i said i didnt learn anything, but it was a tough class to pass. just get ready to throw away everything you think you know about composition.

I got an A. Take his class, ask him what he wants you to do and then do it. This will earn you an easy A. He does not ask for the impossible, but the students simply don't inquire about how to do his work the right way, and he doesn't handle them with gloves, hence the negative ratings. I would take him again just for the laughs.
Hey you there reading! I dont know you but I wouldnt wish this class on my worst enemy even though i got an A-. He comes across as funny and cool but he destroyed my 4.0 average and didnt give me a good reason. He said improvement and participation counts but I see he gave others an A who didnt even open their mouths once. He is not a fair grader.

The professor asks you to ask questions and when you do he cuts you off, he says your questions are a waste of time, doesn't have patience what so ever, never explains the work in a way that we can understand, doesn't use power point or anything to show his presentation/lecture.
This professor had no patience for anything or anyone. He NEVER let anyone speak, he always showed up to class as if he was forced to and had no choice and always had an attitude. At the beginning of the semester, he would make jokes with us and have some fun but then things went downhill FAST. I withdrew from his class FAST. Did not appreciate sry
I will say I do not have a personal issue with this professor he has a sense of humor. However, this class just did not work for me. There was no teaching only expectations that the work be done exactly the way he wanted it if not you will lose points. teaching wasnt clear enough for me I withdrew and I dont recommend his class
I would be lying if I said I did not learn anything in this class, however, the professor intimidates you to the point where you won't even want to participate and his expectations for essays are extremely demanding. Pay attention and take a lot of notes. My GPA definitely went down after taking this class.

Keep your emotions in check when dealing with the professor. Speak privately with the professor about your concerns. Express your feelings using "I" statements to avoid sounding accusatory. Keep a record of specific instances of rude behavior. If the issue persists, consider reaching out to department heads or administration for assistance.
Please don't take his class, this professor will laugh and joke with you but will fail you, he doesn't make his self clear what he wants from the students, He speaks to you like you are supposed to know the work already, and he uses profanity which is a turn-off, he does not care about if students are failing, I didn't learn nothing. please RUN!!!.

This professor was worse than neglectful (but believe me, he was), he was outright rude if you gave an answer that didn't match up with his own. Demeaning the intelligence of whoever didn't get it right according to him. He spent so much time on non-sequiturs, of which he'd blame us for wasting time 'not comprehending'. Take ANYONE else.
I'm a few weeks into this course, so the grade isn't finalized yet. He's a terrible prof, and a even worse person. He's super rude, randomly interragates you, and never bothers to listen. He won't let you even drink water in class. His method is slow, ineffective, and absolutely useless. Do not be fooled by good reviews this prof if horrendous.
Horrible! I swapped out of the class so quick. On the first and last day I attended his class, he was so rude towards the students. If you did not pronounce your name the way he wanted, he would get upset. I have a Spanish accent, and he complained on the way I pronounced certain words. You cannot drink water in class-WATER! AVOID HIM! 0 Stars!

He really appreciates when students try and come to him for feedback. He appreciates true effort and when you show true effort he is willing to work with you. Participate as much as you can! Follow his instructions to a T. Do not be afraid to match energy and ask lots of questions. Difficult yes but he did make me become a better writer.
He wasn't clear about what he expected from his students. Although this is college it's an entry level course and his class doesn't reflect that. He's extremely disrespectful and isn't helpful. If you ask most of the students after the semester and very few remained most were intimidated to ask questions.
Very difficult to learn with, if you can adapt quickly you'll be fine though otherwise I'd suggest you avoid class with this professor at all costs.
