He is really smart...this guy here is an excellent teacher. If you want to learn, take him.
Easy A
This guy's a trip. He's no longer going to be grading on a curve - be warned. Read the book, get the old tests from someone who had him previously (Pelaez used to hand them out for study guides) and you'll do ok. READ THE BOOK THOROUGHLY!
This is an interesting class. Study what he tells you in class, and it is an easy A. He is an interesting professor. Knows his stuff.
He is SO SMARTTTT he knows his Material... Try askin him lot of questions....
THE CLASSES ARE NOT TOO HARD. HE IS VERY HELPFUL
Good prof, but BORING! Exams are tough, so be sure to study & read. He gives generous curves though, so that's a good thing.
horrible prof. will never, ever take for for any other class. if there are people out there who have taken him before let other know what he's like. i gave him a horrible evaluation!!
if you come to class, and study from his notes, you will be fine
Does anyone know anything about this professor?
He sucks!! He does NOT give a review for his exams. His test actually consisted of 48 true/false questions and only 2 multiple choice questions!!! AVOID him if you can. If the highest grade in the class is a "C", it should signal to him that THERE IS PROBLEM!!!!
come on students we need feedback on this man. i took him, worked my butt off and still got a C. no reviews for exams, very unclear, and unhelpful. not willing to help and talk to students
Yes! I agree avoid taking him. He is very unclear, and does not give you a review for his exams. He also gets very impatient at times that I know he doesn't like when you ask a question, because he will make you feel like your question was stupid. Avoid taking him!..
I took him about a year ago and I thought he was very intersting. He's not an easy teacher but I wouldn't say it was hard either. He knows what he is talking about. You can learn alot from him.
He is not a good teacher. If 65% of his classes made a D or an F, that should tell him something. He changed his grading in the middle of the semester. Avoid him if you can.
- Does not offer precise concepts on the fundamentals of the class which makes his true/False test format seem very difficult as you have to do an analysis a question first to be able to give the right answer - very impatient
I don't know why other students rated him difficult. Loved all his classes. Relied on his lectures, never opened a book and got "B". My major in finance may be that's why :). I'm sure if I have opened a book "A" wouldn't be a problem. Take a good notes and read a book you lazy asses! Me included :)
I would never want to take this professor ever again. Extremely boring, not willing to help students, and NO reviews. Mid-term and final are true/false test that are very tricky and decieving. I studied through out the semester for both test and still had a hard time.
Great prof but moody. Knowledgeable in Fin. & interesting lectures. You’ll learn a lot. He helps you understand fin. markets & its drivers. Very informative. He wants you to ask questions. His tests are tricky (T/F), but you have to study. Take good notes & read everything in the chapters.
I would never take him again. He cant teach. You cant ask him a question.very immpatient.Even if u go to class, you will still have a hard time.I have never studied that much in my life for a B.Stocktrak helps make sure u try.Only way to pass is if you have copies of old tests
Very moody and rude. No respect for students. Don't ask any questions or he will get upset. Did not learn anything from him. Get ready to teach yourself the material.
It's sad when such a knowledgeable teacher cannot/doesnot wana teach. You ask him a question and be prepare to defend yourself for the terrible mistake u make!
Worst class ever... Lectures are boring, really rude and sarcastic. Expects everyone to know what he's talking about. Tests are super tricky. Says that you can study his lectures and pass but not all test questions are from lectures. Avoid him if possible.
If you took this class you should be a Finance major, you need to know this stuff. He's VERY SMART, don't waste his time and he won't waste yours. Don't ask stupid questions and he'll answer them fully. Test are T/F, but if you take good notes AND study you'll be fine. Overall he's a good prof, just a little moody but good sense of humor. Got a B.
Took him 2-3 years ago!!Great teacher, TAKE NOTES!!HIGHLIGHT What he talks about in the book and study those along with ur notes & uLL be ok. He might sound hard but he has great understanding of the course material and can explain if u ask him. We had a presentation on Fraud and was interesting & informative and boosted our grades. Thank You Dr.P
Dr.Pelaez is an awesome Finance professor. he knows his stuff, cool sense of humor, and straight forward exams. Take plenty of notes! Got a B
Dr. Pelaez is super intelligent and knows his stuff. Hightlight and write lots of notes and you will do fine. You have to read too. He is not easy, but college shouldn't be easy. I got an A in his class because I studied really hard.
Boring...the lectures r so boring...he does have some humor but it really wasn't the funny humor...i did horrible in his class...i was all confussed on the test and he only gives u 2 grades, Midterm n Final...i study n read some of the chapters but it didn't do me any good...T/F questions r the worst...will not be taking this prof. for anything els
Summer II '06 - Dr. Pelaez is a brilliant financial wizard but he doesn't have the temperament for teaching. Makes this class harder than it has to be. Is not very clear on the material and bombards you on the exam/ quizzes with ambiguous T/F questions. In this term, quizzes were 50% of grade and final was other 50%. I made a C. Not recommended.
This is one of the hardest classes,,,the professor is very intimidating, and answers you like you are from the planet Mars,,makes you feel uneasy, and stupid. No communication between classmates is allowed, which makes it difficult in a classroom setting. I'm glad it's over, that's all I'll say about that.
Difficult teacher, but KNOWS his stuff. You have to study hard for this class because you will have to be able to understand this stuff in real life, so deal with it. I got an "A" in his class. Got a B in Midterm and "A" in final and final trumps Midterm. Just read the chapters and focus on what he discusses in class and u will do fine!!
I am pretty interested in finance and have taken quite a few classes, but I can see where some students would find him boring. His test are test/false and extremely tricky. I would recommend him.
Prof is very helpful. He is very clear on what will be on the exams. He does expect class participation. Curves exams. Funny guy!
i dont know about you other people but this teacher was the best at first i thought he would be hard but he gives hand out questions and goes thru them and those are pretty much the same ones on the exam curves the class grade doesnt care about attandance love him
The instructor knows his stuff. Be careful, even though he give out handouts and works out every problem, you still have to understand the material to pass the T/F quest. Overall he is a very good teach and helps you relate the topics to things in the real world.
Great Professor. Dr. Pelaez is funny and will go over something if you dont undersand...He doesn't take roll but you want to go, since his tests come from his lectures and the book.
Great professor, hilarious, and made class interesting in the beginning until mid semester, then he kinda became a bit uptight. But his exams are okay, just study and you'll do fine. LOTS of bonuses given in this class, and he definitely knows his stuff.
Very experienced professor, he became very uptight around mid semester but just to put pressure on you to get good understanding of the material and get good grades, reviews are helful and he is very willing to help you. He curves tests and gives a lot of extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory.
Does not teach very well. Doesn't teach at all. I am ashamed that he teaches at UHD.
Hard class.. professor made it worse, the professor is very intimidating, and answers you like you are wrong to ask a question period.. makes you feel uneasy, stupid, and as if you have no business going to school! I'm glad it's over..never want to see this teacher again!
He is not an easy one, but you will learn subject (if it is your major req. i guess you SHOULD).
This professor is easy for Fin 3302 because his reviews are really helpful for his test. But the classes i took him for afterwards he was a lot harder mainly because there was no Review.
Good prof - he is an interesting character. He gives review sheets so study those for exams. He gave us bonus points for buying the correct calculator. I thought the second half of the course was harder, but I still made an A (it wasn't easy). He didn't take attendace.
The worst professor! No homework, quizez & test. The only grades your grade is based on is a midterm and a final and an essay. He doesnt clarify what chapter he is even going with, very lost. Talks like we already know everything. The midterm was given in Nov when school started in Aug.It was too late to drop, dont even know how Im doing. :(REGRET!!
He uploads practice tests and works on them in class, and the exams are almost the same. He does get a little uptight midsemester, but he gives you 10 points added to your final grade if you take your financial calculator first day of class. Do not think you can slack off, you still have to put in the time and effort and you will get an A.
2 test and a final but he posts practice tests online and does them in class and his tests are straight from the practice tests. buy the calculator he says and you get 10 points added to your final grade(if you have an 85 as your final grade you will now have a 95) super easy course. he always has a joke to tell. highly recommended
Awesome Professor!! He teaches you the right way to do things, uses real world situations, and is very straight forward! Always have you finance cal. especially on the first day of class b/c he gives you extra points on your final grade! Take him you will learn a lot! You should pass unless you are a moron lol!! I got an A.
He kinda goes thru material fast but will stop to explain if you have questions BUT refuses to stay after to answer anything. As a review he goes over practice questions for the exam & it will practically be how the exam will look (granted different #'s). He'll also give you 10 extra points to overall grade if you buy a financial calculator.
This teacher is awesome. Just make sure you are there during class and you'll be ok. His tests are very similar to the examples done in class. Highly recommend this teacher!
Avoid if possible you will see why he gives 10 points extra credit, has T or F in exams which are tricky gets up set when you don't understand if you try to understand it the formulas he will tell you to learn to use the calculator. All he does is go over the exams doesn't really teach you why this stuff is. BUT IF YOU CAN GET A C. U will get B
Professor get easily irritated when one asks for clarity; his "invitation" to ask questions = not true; he does not teach intentionally, meaning that he does not intend for students to understand the subject; this is clear when most students assist to tutoring for lack of clarity... very disappointing-frustrating-discouraging; avoid at all cost
Very good and awesome professor he is very good with his students only you need to practice the tests and quizzes and you will pass this class the best finance teacher I have taken In UHD
Awesome teacher! the class itself is challenging, don't expect it to be easy, but he is a great teacher. Took an 8 week hybrid, lectures are long but super informative. only took mid term & final. He does curve & bonus points for bringing finance calculator first day. only complaint is the number of tf on the tests.
The exams are the same as his examples but TF questions are confusing must read book
If you don't do well in this class, then you are lazy. point period blank. He is one of the best professors I have ever taken, I am finance major and learned so much from him I wish he taught more finance classes, but sadly he does not. Take him! Gives you 10 bonus points for calculator! Just study his reviews if you don't study them you will fail
Your grade consists of three exams (2 midterms and a final) that are all weighted the same. 10 points added to your final course grade for bringing a financial calculator to class the first day. If you pay attention and take notes and study from the book for the exam, you can do well. Trust me, I got a D on the first test and got an A in the class!
Took him in person and online. Online is better, he gives test guides that are very similar to the online exam. No quizzes, homework, projects. Grade is from one exam and your final. Made a B on the exam and didn't study too hard. Does replace exam grade with final if it benefits. Gave an example exam of the final. Emails to keep you updated.
One midterm and final exam that are very similar to chapter guides he provides. Overall, easy class.
3 exams one online HW not mandatory but helps when taking the exams easy A if you practice with the HW
took his class over the summer. it was a mid term and a final. he gives you a cheat sheet with questions and answers. study that and you'll make an A. no text book purchase required.
only one midterm and only one final, that's all you get a grade for. the midterm is open notes but not the final. would recommend if you are a self taught
What a gem of a professor he is. Subject matter is hard in nature but professor does everything in his power to make u understand. Don't skip any lectures n u surely will get an "a". Every student who wants to major in finance should definitely take him. He makes sense out of hard nonsensical ideas.
This class is not very hard, he will allow you to use a earlier edition book to make it much cheaper on you so dont buy the latest edition and you will save $$. He makes things simple, too simple at first... be ware, it does get harder so pay attention after the first test! He will answer all of your questions to make sure that you understand!
the most emotional professor I ever seem, this class is easy, and I received a good grade from it, but I studied everything by my own. he didn't teach anything in the class. and he gets mad at everybody because of one stupid student complaints about the second test. not professional at all.
If you apply yoursef, this is an easy class. He makes it easy to understand the material and teaches how to use the calculator. I don't recommend hybrid as you must mainly teach yourself. Don't slack off, he posts test material on black board and powerpoints. If you want a full lessons, take normal classes, not hybrid. 2 exams & a final, that's it.
Took this course hybrid. Overall grade come from 2 tests and a final. Teaches the material and posts hw online that's not due. Its more for practice. He drifts off from the material in class to joke around about politics. I kind of self thought myself a few things but overall he was a good professor. Applied myself and made an A.
One midterm with open notes and a comprehensive final with no notes. This is all you are getting your grade based on. Made an A thanks to the curve, however I found this course somewhat boring due to the lack of interaction, especially for an online class. If you are good at self-education then this is the course for you.
I took this course for my minor. This is the second time I take him (last was FIN3302). Only 2 grades come from the midterm with open book and notes. Final is no notes or book. Provided extra credit for those who took advantage in which was applied to the overall grade. Take good notes and this class should be an easy A.
I have taken this professor both online and in person, and both times his courses consisted of just the midterm and final, with the final replacing your midterm if you score higher. His lecturing style could rub some the wrong way, but I think he is just passionate about what he is talking about. Show up to reviews for the final and you'll do fine
I took him online for summer 2, 2018. He grades based on midterm and final, and as an online student you need to read, be good at self teaching although he has material to help you and practice test questions posted, take advantage. He also curves I got an A, awesome. I wish I would take him for all finance classes.
Only 2 grades, Midterm & Final. He gives you possible test questions needed to pass, if you make below a B, you definitely should switch majors. Easy class, he is a bit rude but I took him anyway because of the class content. He curves based on everyones final grade. So if you're lazy and dont study, but others do, then the curve WONT help you.
Follow the syllabus and read the chapters along with the practice exams and other materials he uploads to help along with the chapter and you will pass. What sucks is that he only gave 2 grades (midterm and final). So, it's pretty much a hit or miss in this class, because you are defiantly on your own.
Not reliable at all. He says one thing and then changes it the next day. It is basically read the textbook and teach yourself. No reviews for the midterm or final. Unfortunately there is only a few teachers for this course, and you just have to get through it. Wish there were more teacher options and choices. Let him be your last resort.
didn't learn anything in his both online and in class courses.
Not a great prof. Take online to get a class out the way. You won't learn anything. Money Markets is interesting if you truly like Finance. He gives you lots of test banks to study. Only 2 Tests: Midterm and Final. I made an A on the Midterm and a D on the Final and passed with a B. You can use notes, book, test bank during Midterm.
only midterm (open notes) and final (in testing center & comprehensive). I messaged him twice two weeks before final & he never responded. I made about 800 flash cards for the final and got a 78 :( thankfully he does curve the final.
only midterm and final so take good notes and groupme with class
Professor Pelaez is a disappointment. He doesn't provide instruction in class and doesn't provide any reviews for exams. The documents provided on Blackboard are incomplete and do not help with exam questions. My advice is to choose another professor because he sets his students up for failure.
Not sure how this professor got "Awesome" reviews but he is far from that. He is very difficult unless you are a Finance major and it comes easy to you to learn this stuff. I have basically taught myself throughout this semester. Difficult material to learn from someone that does barely any teaching. I do not recommend this prof.
Took this professor for Investments and he was very caring and sympathetic through out the end of the semester due to the virus. Grades were based on 2 exams (midterm & final) and were taken with notes. He provides test banks for both exams and also curves! So if you get a C or lower, you just don't care.
If you want to take his classes to get them out your way, DO IT. You will not learn anything from his lectures. Some students got A's and B's on his class without having to open the book or study at all. All his talks during his lectures is about politics. You can find most of his test question on quizlet.
This class requires reading and quite a bit of studying. Fortunately, he provides all the questions that will be on the test up front. Unfortunately, there's about 75 questions per chapter as the study guide so you will have to study a lot of questions but if you do, it's an easy A. Midterm is respondus but no camera. Final is proctored
I took him for two different finance classes. Very very knowledgeable. You just need to study hard. Not recommended for slackers. You have to put in a lot of time. Overall I wish I can take him again.
your grade is a curved average of three tests... no homework, no quizzes... just 3 tests. Curved off the highest score in your class, so if someone aces it, y'all be screwed. Extra credit is limited and first come, first served. It will end up be half a letter grade increase if you are lucky.
His class is overall easy. He's not very good with technology so you can pass with ease. He gets a lot of answers wrong, is very disorganized, and probably shouldn't be a professor. He screwed up one of the homework's and instead of fixing it gave me a 50. He's way too proud and isn't a very smart professor to me. Self taught class basically.
AWFUL! He does not teach at all. He will say if you have any questions ask and when you ask the response is we went over the content in class so you should know how to work the problems. I spent the entire class watching the videos in the book and teaching myself. I would not recommend taking his class at all unless you can teach yourself.
THIS PROFESSOR WILL LITERALLY NOT CURVE YOUR 89 TO AN A!!! Absolutely ridiculous! You can study as much as you want, but if someone scores a 98 on the test y'all are done for. Professor curves based on highest scoring student. Unfair. Choose a better professor if you have the choice. You are only graded on 2 exams and a final. Goodluck.
This is a very difficult class if you're not good at math, but Prof. Pelaez is one of the few professors I've had who actually cares about helping his students learn. He is available to provide help when needed, responds promptly to attempts to contact him, and goes out of his way to help his students be successful.
I took this professor for both FIN 4305 and 3305. Only grades are a few tests and final, so you have to do good in every test to have the possibility of getting an A in the final. He has no required lectures, basically a teach yourself kind of class. Scheduling is clear, but if you aren't a good test taker, don't take his class.
4 tests are the whole grade and he gave us 300 questions to remember our 50-question final. Don't do it. considering most of the class went to the northwest campus with notes to cheat well they say "use their notes" on the final it is absurd. no study guides? Some people got 100's on the final he didn't give any of us a curve as he had promised...
Just finished summer session 1. There's only two grades: midterm/final and he curves from the highest scoring student which sucks. I took him because there's no other online option but for some reason, he posts everyone's grades on all the exams which some students were not ok with. I got an 89 w/ curve and he does not round up. Study daily to pass
Take this class, very easy A!! There's only two test and the final and he does offer extra credit. He provides a test bank with questions and answers for the tests that you are allowed to use during the tests. You will find 90% of the answers on the test bank. You can use it for the final too, very easy class.
I don't recommend this old man at all. Find someone better that actually cares about teaching.
Great professor. Goes very slow and speaks clearly. Very patient with students who show up and try. 3 Exams and 1 Final. All classes recorded and provided. I would take almost any class from him. Highly recommend.
This professor remains after class to assist his students in comprehending challenging problems.
Professor Pelaez is extremely knowledgeable and explains the material clearly. Three exams and one final, no lockdown browser. Book is not required, attendance is not taken. Pretty solid class overall would definitely recommend.
3 tests, 1 final (open book), no homework. Attendance is not mandatory but you should definitely go because the exams can get a little difficult.
Attendance is only taken on the first day, no homework throughout the semester but he does provide study guides. 3 exams, 1 final, all open note/non procted! He will replace your lowest grade. His material is tricky, but he does his best to explain and is responsive to emails. Highly recommend!
This class is easy if you make a friend to help each other incase you don't get one of the chapters.
Professor Rolando Pelaez is great, very interesting lectures, provides wonderful information that you can easily apply in the real business world,he makes very difficult concepts easy to understand,he truly cares for his students...I will definitely take him again!!!!
If you're looking for a GPA booster, this is it! This course was a super easy A. Only two exams and a final (none were proctored or on lockdown). Very low stress and easy to do well.
Very easy class! Provides all the information needed for the class and the textbook (you can find online for free) is an easy read. He provides a test bank with questions which are all on the exam. Easiest 3305 class out there. Would 100% take again!
