Very, very patient and generous with his time. I came to the class with *no* background in science and got an A-. He explains things very well!
Doesn't stray from his notes. Tests are easy. If you can stay awake its easy.
he is a good teacher. if u dontundersatnd anything just ask him, he will take his time and will explain it right. good teacher and a good person...
lecture slides are a carbon copy of the book and are merely abridged chapter reviews. not very effective way of teaching chemistry but Roman is always available to help us outside of class and explains things until you understand it, outside of class. would have liked it better if he did most of that explaining inside of class instead of re-reading
His lecture & lecture notes came from the book. If you do the questions at the end of the chapter, they should prepare you for the exam. He tries to be helpful and accessible outside of class. I would take him for instrumetal.
Easy A if you read the book and do the end of the chapter problems.
Very Knowlegable Instructor
Dr. R gives you a practice test before each exam. He doesnt give you the answers because half of those questions are on the test..very straightforward. Material is EASY! His lectures aren't the most exhilirating, but no class is at 5:30 at night! VERY nice guy and overall, EASY EASY class!! Take him if you need an upper level Chem course.
Great teacher!! Easy Class!! Do the OLD secret practice tests that are passed around. They are just like the test. ;)
Great professor, cares about students. The class is easy! Mostly stuff you've learned in Gen. Chem. Take it if you need an advanced science / chem elective, I did and I don't regret it.
He uses Powerpoint from the book to teach. He is a ok teacher, wouldn't say he the best one. The test semi-hard and you take it in CASA. The test questions are make up by all the Chemistry professors.3 Tests and 1 Final.
He was not very good at lecturing. His notes came right from the book and made it pointless of coming to class. He didn't give many examples that were not in the book.Homework was hard and time consuming. Tests were very hard, they weren't impossible but everyone was failing most if not all the tests.Attend Dr. Botts review sessions in order to pass.
He was a good professor. What i liked was that he offered help aside from class. Reading the material before class really helps.
Average professor. I studied a lot for this class and got a B+. I like that he offered help aside from class. I'd recommend also going to Bott's review sessions.
Cannot tell how well/poor I'm doing with learning the material because he has trouble returning back graded work in a timely manor. His interest in teaching general chem is very low. BUT! he is a pretty funny guy; I like his personality; though, I'm pretty sure he has a drinking problem.
Hard class, material did not match up with test very well. Majority of class suffered. This class stressed me out really bad, don't take with a high class load.
Things you NEED to know 1).Bott creates the test Professor C.just can't prepare you for test like Bott can 2)notes are handed out--hard to pay attention during lecture 3)Tests are hard, need to know all the formulas and be able to insert them into each other for the tests 4).attend Botts review sessions!5).Homeworks and studying takes long time
i feel that dr. roman, though he was not a terrible professor at all, was not as effective as geanangel or bott. take carasquillo if you want the same teaching quality with a sizable grade curve
Funny professor, but doesn't really teach when it comes to general chem. He basically reads off his ppts the entire time. My advice is to go to botts review sessions, along with the tutoring center on campus.
Horrible professor! he doesn't teach. He reads off his ppts which are full of mistakes. He doesn't like to teach or help even though he says "ask" when you do, he would make you feel dumb because that was something "you should already know". It's bad that he is the only professor teaching certain subjects otherwise I would never take him again.
very tough teacher, i would not take him again, he is very confusing. his examples and practice tests are nothing like whats on the test avoid him at all costs. class average on tests was always around 50% ppts littered with mistakes and confuses you every slide, anyone else would have been better than this guy...
Took both Chem 4369 and 3369 with him and got good grades w/o having to pour over the textbook too much--study the notes! Go to class for extra credit problems (just show work) to help prepare.. tests MC but difficult-- definitely do practice problems and STUDY the NOTES! Super nice prof, willing to help! 10/10 would take another class w/ him!
Although it was a tough class, he curves the grade at the end of the semester depending on the overall grades of the whole class. There are homework each week with a due date. The tests were unrelated to the materials learned in class, so make sure you study. The reviews did help a little, but not a whole lot.
If he thinks your question is dumb he will not answer it. He lets you out of class a little late which is annoying and he hates it when students are on their phone while in class. Prepare to power through if you take him because his lectures are drawn out.
Tough course/good prof. Powerpoint lectures. Posts copies in advance to bring to class. Longtime teacher, wants students to succeed. Extra points for attendance/pre-test homework. Tests are hard and comprehensive. Posts grades within days. Gives option of no final if satisfied with grade after third test. Class of 100 seats, usually full.
Take at your own risk. He doesn't go over the main things that'll be on the actual exams enough. He copy and paste in Powerpoints and end up having too many erros in them. Homework is unbelievably hard, they go a step farther than what you possibly read from book or from lectures. Reviews doesn't cover what will be on the exam at all. Don't do it.
worst teacher. way too hard. power points have nothing to do with the exam.
A-Chem was straightforward, but don't underestimate it. Be sure to do the homework and show up to class if you want a bit of extra credit as well. If you're happy with your first 3 test scores, you're exempt from the final.
Don't be fooled by A-Chem, Instrumental Methods isn't easy. I easily aced A-Chem, but struggled for a B in this class. According to rumor, the Instrumental Methods class is easy if you take the accompanying lab concurrently. Grading criteria is exactly the same as in A-Chem, but slightly fewer opportunities for extra credit.
He is not willing to help and does not want to talk. not very available, tests are hard and he does not prepare you for them. just reads the powerpoint and then expects you to master the tough questions
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR HE WILL FAIL YOU AND NOT CARE!!
Never ever take his class!!! If you take him, you can still be fine but that would be the hardest period for you in college.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
His lectures are just one long powerpoint that he reads off of and then posts on blackboard later. if you're a good student who reads the textbook, goes to class, and does the homework, you should be able to get at least a B.
Take Teets!! He's better then Guloy and Carrasquillo, but that ain't saying much, all chem teachers at UH are balls . He will read off of powerpoints for 1 hour. Boring class.
PROFESSOR ROMAN WAS AN EH TEACHER. I WOULD SAY STUDY MORE OUTSIDE OF CLASS. IT ISN'T IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS HIS CLASS. IF HE LEARNS WHO YOU ARE I'D SAY HE WILL PASS YOU. THIS COURSE AS A WHOLE THOUGH IS DIFFICULT. READ THE TEXT!!!
There are 4 tests that count for 60%, HW is 6%, and the final is 34% so you can see the system isn't exactly rooting for you. You're on your own here because Roman just reads off the powerpoint. Questions are pulled from a test bank so study your practice test and study your friend's practice test. Study all the practice tests you can get.
Come to class everyday and prepare to study outside of class. Very strict professor.
This professor reads off his power points and expects you to learn from just that. You honestly don't even need to show up to class because his power points are posted online and you have to teach yourself anyways. Grading scale was 90% exam and 10% quizzes so you're screwed if you do bad on any one of them. Avoid him at all cost!!!
Prof. Roman obviously knows what he's talking about, the problem is, he expects you to as well. He goes very quickly through the power point slides and does not explain things very well or go into any depth. I went through the semester teaching myself because I rarely took anything from class.
He reads word for word from the power points (which are posted online). Beware if you ask questions about something you don't understand, because he will make you feel stupid for asking. I taught myself the material by reading the book and reviewing the slides and passed with an A. He's terrible though. Avoid at all costs.
This professor only reads the slides that are on the monitor. He says "In this case" way too much. Do not take this class with this professor!
Well, I chose Professor Bott to begin with but he left UH so we were stuck with this guy. He's probably the most boring teacher I've ever had. Attendance isn't mandatory. Don't waste your money on the book because all of the material needed is in the Powerpoints. Study the PPs and you'll be ok. This guy says "in this case" way too much!!!
Professor C just reads off the slides that he posts on blackboard. There are weekly quizzes/homeworks that aren't too bad. There are practice tests on blackboard as well, but you end up having to read the chapter and teach yourself.
He essentially explains the textbook in his lecture through powerpoints, it can be boring but it isn't the worst thing i've ever experienced. Do the practice homeworks and actually study for the test a week or so in advance and you'll be fine on the tests. However 90% of your grade is from said tests so if you mess up it's kinda over.
This professor may simply read off the lecture but it is a great review if you pay attention and show up to class. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who wasn't good at chemistry in high school but if you were its a good class. Plus the professor is kind and funny.
He's not a bad professor just doesn't teach in depth. Lots of homework and the tests can be kind of hard but all test questions come from a test bank so questions you see on homeworks and practice exams will most likely be on the actual exams word for word, which is great. Make sure to print all notes because he removes them after each test!
Worst teacher ever do not take him.
Don't take this professor unless you want to fail, he will give you a F with pleasure. Homework was hard, Tests even harder.
His accent reminds me of playing The Witcher 3. Tests are 90% of your grade, and they are hard. He does curve pretty heavily. If you get bored, a good way to stay alert is to track how many times he says "in this case." The most I ever counted was 117 in a single lecture. This is not a joke. He averages about 1.5 per minute.
Still not over the fact that he said you're in this class bc you were not smart enough to test into a higher chem class. Besides that, he basically reads off the lecture notes. He "takes attendance" but it does not count for your grade. I go a cheaper version of the chemistry book that was an older edition to teach myself.
Easy A if you have already taken Chemistry. He reads his lectures directly from the powerpoint. The homework and tests don't really mirror in class work. Just use the internet!
The class is not that bad if you study the power points. Book is not used, so don't buy, 3 test, one cumulative final. If you want to pass you have to Study, Study, Study. Don't depend on the teacher, and before each test do practice problems. Has homework each week, this would help you a lot for the test. Practice test are your best friend.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL! HE DOES NOT TEACH, ALL HE DOES IS READ OFF POWERPOINTS. IF YOU WANT TO PASS YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF.
Pretty much he shows up and reads off the powerpoint. Don't bother buying the textbook. Work homeworks and practice homeworks over and over again. Your entire grade will be 3 tests + final, so study way in advance. I would just attend another teacher's lecture to be honest, i sadly couldnt do that because it conflicted
He reads off powerpoint notes that you can print & study on your own. I taught myself & studied a ton before each exam. 3 exams each worth 20% of your entire grade, final 30%, hw 10% & hw questions go away after taking it so you can't go back to review it when you want to study for test. I copy & paste hw on word doc to study it later. Its doable
The class itself is pretty straightforward. Three exams, one final, and weekly homework. The lectures are awful, since he stands in front and reads, verbatim, from his powerpoints. If you study the powerpoints and understand the material on the quizzes then you will do fine in the class.
SUMMER CLASS: 3 Tests + 1 Final 94% of your final grade. HW 6% of final grade. Reads off ppt. Must self teach. Made attendance mandatory. Extra Credit extra work. Do lots of practice probs. study and read text book then you'll be fine. if you slack you'll fail. He has 0 tolerance for missed hw, class, test. you miss, you get a 0. period.
This professor has a strong European accent which makes it difficult to understand. He also teaches more of the reason behind why chemistry works. I personally liked that, but other students did not like that and would have preferred to work on more example problems. Also right before the final, someone that claimed to be him joined our group chat.
I took this class in the summer and it was so easy. Dr. Roman is really cool and I enjoyed him as a professor. He does have an accent so you have to listen carefully when he talks but honestly its not that bad. There were 4 exams but they are pretty easy. Take decent notes, listen in class, do the homeworks, and it'l be fine.
Overall the class is easy to pass if you stay on top of the lectures. The tests make up most of the grade but they aren't difficult either. You have one homework assignment a week which is only 10 questions.
He's a good teacher. You have to really pay attention if you want a good grade. He goes somewhat fast during his lectures. Technically attendance was mandatory, but he hardly took attendance. The class was also really big, which made it harder to ask questions.
He is such a sweet teacher. The other reviews are literally just hating because they didn't have the drive to actually listen and focus. Sit in the front of his class. He reads off the powerpoint but he does show you how to solve the problems and such. He gives you a lot of resources to do well in his class. You just have to have the motivation.
Overall, Professor C. is a good instructor. It was sort of challenging for me because chemistry is my weakest science subject. I did manage to make an acceptable overall grade in my opinion. He has homework due each week following an exam after each month. His tests can be a little tricky so make sure to study in advance. Save all of your notes!
Overall, the class is pretty straightforward and doable. Pay attention to class, print his PowerPoint lectures, and you should be on track. 3 midterms (20% each), finals (30%) Online hw(10%). I would suggest on reviewing his online hws for practice before each tests.
He basically reads of his power points, but does keep it interesting by occasionally providing a mono-toned joke or two. I actually enjoyed his lectures, but I definitely don't think attendance is mandatory to pass. He doesn't take attendance but he will say that he does. He won't bump your grade at all, not even .4 points :(
Terrible class and professor, doesnt teach you or prepare you for the exam in any way, which is 94% of your grade.
Chem in general is a self taught class. Roman is ok at teacher but he doesn't do office hours because he "wants to answer everything by email". He requires a certain format for his emails. If you don't use that exact format, he wont reply. Attendance is required, but if you miss one day, you wont get the 2 extra points....
Most of the time new material is on the test that has NEVER been on homework or powerpoints. He does not curve, or drop any test grades. He only drops two homework grades that are 10% of your grade. He is an average professor, would not recommend if you have never taken chem.
This class, like all other science classes at UH, is pretty much one you can teach yourself. Although attendance isnt a grade, going to lecture will give you answers to the problems that are in the PowerPoints (he posts all lecture slides on Bb). He does have random test yourself pop quiz type things which generally count for extra credit.
His lectures can be boring and sometimes pointless but if you do the homework and put the extra study time in you will pass. Chegg study was totally 100 percent worth it for this course. Purchase it because outside of class the prof is useless.
Lectures just to hear himself talk. Exams are 94% of your grade and he doesn't prepare you for them at all. Assigns lots of homework - Chegg is a must. The textbook is awful with explanations. Had to rely on every other resource available outside of this class -self study everything. When asked to explain his fav response is "I don't have time."
His lectures are alright. He posts blank notes so you can print them out and fill them in during lecture. Personally, I didn't do what I was supposed to in a timely manner, so I ended up not studying well for exams. If I did, I could have made an A. Chegg is a HUGE help in this class though, as sometimes he doesn't go over something in class.
Took summer class. This professor does not know how to teach. He literally said in the beginning of class: "I am here to explain the textbook, not answer questions." He is rude to students and grades rigorously. Just wait and take CHEM 1332 in the spring or fall honestly.
The exams are way harder than what he teaches. He usually posts practice exams to study off of but they do not help. Terrible teacher!!!!!!!!
You pretty much teaching yourself if you do take this professor . I recommend you watch Tom teets YouTube videos to help you thru this class like I did .
Excellent professor, replies to emails promptly. With that being said, you have to self study to make an A. If you are not doing text book problems or working your way through other resources it will be hard to make an A. overall easy class.
The Professor is horrible.... He does not answer questions if you have any, and tends to skip over sections, to pass the class you will definitely be better off self studying (youtube).
If you read the chapters and go to class there's no way you won't get an A. The lectures are good and really simplify everything.
This class was so bad because of the boring useless hour long lecture that could put anybody to sleep.
From the 1st day of class you can tell that this is going to be a challenging course. I would advice study groups. Make sure to read the book and the homework and test yourselves and if you can do that then you should be alright on the Exams. Not very much explaining on coursework so maybe try tutoring .Overall have time for the class and do the hw
If you are the type of person who does not like teaching themselves, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS ! If you are like me and like things straight to the point, do not expect this from Roman. He will overcomplicate material and you will be confused from his lectures. I read the book front to back (a chapter per week) and I passed, but the final is HARD!!
This is definitely a self-study class. Either you get lucky or unlucky with the test bank. The content is not that bad compared to actual chem at UH so its easy to understand. I stopped going to class because all he did was read off the slides. Just look through his powerpoints and use all attempts w/ the Homeworks and you'll for sure get an A.
If your a sophomore or even freshman dont take this man. He threatens to take phones away, the homework has way more difficult problems than the ones explained in class and he lies about dropping the lowest homework which is stated in syllabus. He dont go in depth and just reads from slides and randomly takes attendance.
To simply put it, this class was a waste of my time. All this professor did was read off of his slides and you were better off studying by yourself. I stopped going to class mid semester. Also, the test questions were randomized so you were either lucky to get easy questions on the test or you were unlucky. :(
The class was okay. It was a big class, but there would be less and less people every time since the professor didn't check attendance. I never used the textbook I only printed the worksheets before every class to take notes. There is HW every week and the tests are easy if you study the worksheets.
Each week has an online homework assignment. Says attendance is mandatory but in a lecture of 200+ it does not really matter. Lecture notes are posted before lecture and can be done without lecture. Textbook is recommended for those who are weak in chemistry and would like extra help. 3 non accumulative and 1 major accumulative test.
Says attendance is mandatory. It is not. weekly homework assignments. If you are bad at chem. get a study group or go to tutoring because in a lecture of 500 your problems are not going to be addressed by the professor. Textbook is a nice addition to have but not really mandatory just use power points if you feel confident enough.
Doesn't teach, but instead reads off powerpoints that you can access online. He is a little arrogant and rude, and makes it hard to ask questions. If you don't email him in a proper format, follow all procedures, then he won't help you. Half our class fails every test. Attendance is not mandatory, get a group and teach yourselves.
For me, chem seemed like more math than science. He posts all his lecture slides online so I just studied off of those and youtube videos. He literally reads the slides word for word. The only thing I got out of going to the lectures were the answers to practice problems. Make sure you understand the material on the slides well & you'll be ok.
I thought he was amazing, really nice guy and people don't give him enough credit. He's funny and kind and will always go out of his way to answer your questions. He also encourages participation in class and it was always appreciated. Really sweet professor. And he always gives you points back if you challenge a question you got wrong on the exam.
Chem at UH is bad. Tests are heavy and based from luck. Reads verbatim from ppts so people just skip. Lecture don't reflect the vigor of the tests. Prof is strict about no phones. Not approachable either. If you want A, you must study and practice constantly. Even that is not guaranteed because tests are from luck. Best tools to study: PT & HW.
Simply terrible, do yourself a favor. Don't take this prof class.
This class can either be an easy A or a bad grade depending on your work ethic. ppl complaining simply did not put in the effort. Do all attempts of homework, all practice exams, and thoroughly understand the material and the tests will be exactly like what you have seen. Don't be afraid to ask for credit back on test problems and communicate
If you can take somebody else besides him, then do so! His lectures are literally power points he reads off the board, which you have access to online. He's very rude and treats his class like high school students. No phone, no eating snacks, and when you get up to use the restroom or to leave, he WILL question you!
This class is a joke esp if youve taken chem before in high school and and actually understood the material. You really dont need to go to class because all he does is read off of the PowerPoint that he posts online. Tests are based off of HW so make sure you understand them.
If you can avoid this professor, please do so. He does NOT respond to emails. This class is self-teaching, if you do the hw's well, they are just like the exam but beware, some question on the exam are questions you wont learn about or have ever seen. You are either lucky or not with the randomized questions. The professor is rude and doesn't care.
He is very strict about no technology in class and you have to print out all of the lecture notes before class. Pop quizzes in class must be on a special paper, keep a couple printed with you. HW and quizzes are pretty easy but I would just teach myself the material and do other work in class, sit in the back or he will call you out in it.
The class is not extremely hard. Memorize the homework questions, as long as you know how to solve them, you will be rdy for the exam (save the homework's and take all the attempts). However, this professor is extremely rude and does not teach a thing, you must self learn (google). This proff acts like he's teaching organic chem, doesn' know we dc.
I do NOT recommend this professor. If you care about your grade, and ability to learn, do not take him. He's extremely rude, and he's even made fun of students for getting an answer to a question wrong. Reads word for word off of his PP. I never went to class and just studied the textbook and Bott videos, and I barely managed to do well.
Because of the pandemic we had to switch to online classes in the middle of the semester. All he did was post the power points and expected us to learn from them and teach her selves. The tests were impossible. He was very rude when we were in class, he would yell at people for being on their phones. He was overall unapproachable and difficult.
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Take your science credit at HCC and transfer it over to UH. Save yourself, money, and mental health. Absolutely horrible and extremely disrespectful and unclear.
This professor is so nice, especially during this pandemic. He's funny but he had to turn off all mics on zoom because of immature people. If you pay attention or just study a day in advance, you'll do great on tests! Hw's have 4 tries!
He has Khan Academy videos which are really helpful. I didnt attend classes for weeks and only watched the Khan videos and passed with a B
Super nice guy, and spent lots of time on his lectures. Also provided a ton of resources to use. You don't have to go to the lectures either. Just read the textbook and you'll be fine.
This is a really easy intro class, but the professor is of no help. The Zoom lectures were simply him reading the powerpoints already posted on blackboard, and he doesn't take questions or even let you unmute. Really no point in attending the lectures, you're better off sleeping through and teaching yourself later bc you'll end up doing it anyway.
Your grade in this class depends on your luck. The test questions are randomly generated from a large question bank. So you may get stupidly easy questions. Or you may get stupid hard questions. The weekly homeworks were super easy. Its the test that you gotta worry about. If you can avoid taking this class, I would. If you cant, please STUDY!!!
Took it online. You could get away with skipping lectures and just reading the book. He prefers to make announcements in lectures instead of emails. Helpful if you remember some high school chemistry because he brushes over that stuff assuming youll know it already. HW is easy. But your grade in this class really depends on the tests.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS AT ALL AND IS NOT ACCOMMODATING FOR ANY REASON. DOES NOT LET YOU ANSWER QUESTIONS DURING CLASS AND IGNORES ANY EMAILS EXPRESSING CONCERNS. LECTURES WERE HORRIBLE CAN'T TEACH. WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. ENTIRELY SELF TEACH. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This class is extremely test heavy, every question on the exams is 1 point of your total grade. That being said, he offers almost no help at all when it comes to the class materials. His lectures are boring and he doesn't like people asking questions during the lecture. Don't take his class if you can't teach yourself through the text book.
Literally 94% of your grade is determined by exams with 35% represented by the final alone. Attendance is not mandatory and I would not even bother attending, very monotone and unengaging. Basically you teach yourself with the textbook. Please pick anyone else other than this professor if you want to keep your love for chemistry!!
This professor is truly the worst professor in the entire university. If youre thinking hes your only option, youre better off waiting to get into a different chem class. He has absolutely NO sympathy. When I had to reschedule my exam due to a SERIOUS family emergency, his exact response was it it not mine nor casas fault you cannot make it
Took this class bc I heard it was the easiest chem class. NOPE. Way more difficult than I anticipated. His lectures are really boring and I don't get anything out of them. But if you have questions, he responds to emails VERY quickly. Seems like a nice dude. His curve is fantastic though and definitely makes up for everything else.
This professor is a waste of time and the grading scale is ridiculous. Just as toxic as the institution, I wasted $1000 for nothing... and I am a 4.0 student! My pets can teach me more about chemistry than this joke.
Taking this class during a pandemic is similar to rubbing salt into your own wounds. His lectures are so ridiculously boring and never lets anyone unmute to ask questions. I should've dropped the class when I had the chance and just take it in a later semester. Now I've gone through hell AND have to retake it. Yay for me <3
This guy makes watching paint dry on a wall sound fun. Lectures are boring and monotone, with very little to no enthusiasm. If you have questions during the lecture you will not be allowed to ask them. Not the best with technology. I loved chemistry in high school but he made me lose my passion and interest in it. If you have him, good luck!
Does not like you to ask questions. Lectures do not follow book or tests.
OVERALL A HORRIBLE TEACHER he's not willing to help you with anything, Doesn't care about his students he's only there to get paid. Basically, if you fail the first exam you are screwed for the rest of the semester since tests are 90% of your grade. With this class, you have to teach yourself everything as he doesn't like to explain himself.
he starts late, has tech issues, gets mad when students ask questions, his lectures are so slow and go over the powerpoint only. You do not need to show up because he doesn't teach anything. He reads directly off the powerpoint and has no extra credit. i would have took someone else but he was the only one left.
This professor is very hard. exams are 30% each, midterm are 60%, and Homework are worth 10%. To pass this class you need to read the textbook and watch videos about the lectures. Study like 6-10 hours on every exams. NO extra credit. NO curve. He will only drop two homework assignments by the end of the semester.
This is a really bad professor and tbh starting off my freshman year im having bad first impressions about this place. The class itself isn't hard, but the professor is horrible. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK. I stopped showing up to class bc he didnt teach so I started reading the textbook and it made my life so much easier
if you love yourself please dont. this teacher made me want to drop out. He gives you 15 HW assignments for semester but the 4 tests he give you do not align with his boring long lectures. he hates when students asks questions, because why are we asking a teacher for help? he will literally tell you drop out of school because you have no hope.
i'm sure the good ratings are paid actors.
He was an ok professor not the best.
If you can please avoid taking this professors. Your grade is 90% exams and 10% homework. Lectures were boring and he read word for word off his slides. You have to teach yourself the material.
I ended up teaching myself throughout the whole course because the professor would just read off the slides. I found the textbook pretty helpful, but I had to end up using other outside sources (chemistry is NOT my strongest subject). Also, your grade relies heavily on your exams, which is a huge bummer if you do bad on even one exam.
This professor is nice, but his teaching style is not helpful (for me at least). He reads directly off of the slides. The textbook is pretty useful. If he is your last option, just know that you would probably have to teach yourself the material.
Dr. Czernuszewicz is, in my opinion, a lazy professor. All of his homework and tests are automatically graded by Blackboard and he responds late to emails/gets annoyed when people ask him for help in class. I do not recommend taking him unless you plan to teach yourself everything (w/ the textbook), which is what I had to do.
not sure why he has a bad rap. not bad at all. has lecture hand outs, minimal homework with many attempts, practice problems, all very helpful. responds to questions in class thoroughly. responds quick to emails.
Above his passionate teaching. He is very nice, and he always tries to make his class more lively. Therefore, he is bad at telling stories and jokes, and that makes him a funny instructor.
there is genuinely nothing wrong with pacing your lectures, we do not need to go through chapters 8.1-8.9 (12-13 pages) in an hour.
Extremely strict with practice tests and homework deadlines. He also won't drop any test scores. He only assigns homework once a week, so the workload isn't heavy, but it barely counts toward your grade. His teaching style consists of just slides, so self-studying is a must if you're taking him. Tests make up about 80% of grade.
Even though he is passionate about chemistry and is funny at times, he flies through PowerPoint lectures and doesn't explain concepts as thoroughly as needed. If you want an A, you must do heavy self-study and spend hours memorizing equations. The only extra credit he gave was on the last lecture; if you were there, you got a point (MAYBE two).
Dr. Roman is a great professor! His lectures were detailed and had many practice problems with detailed solutions. He also gives multiple attempts on homework and practice exams. The class is very test heavy though (90% of your grade), so you have to do well on them in order to keep your grade up. Overall, I would definitely recommend him!
nice professor, lectures can be a little difficult to follow, but as long as u do practice problems u should do good on the exams
I barely made it. Get ready to do practice problems and study everyday all day basically eat, sleep, and breath this course. Exams are 90% of your grade and only 10% hw. The homework doesn't affect ur grade like at all unless you get a zero. Also he literally belittles students and has some sort of superiority complex. Don't take him.
He always posts the slides he goes over. If you really want to pass, do all the practice problems from the textbook.
Professor Czernuszewich himself was a nice lecturer, he made lectures sort of interesting. The complaint I have with his course is 90% of our grade is the exams. The homework assignments basically do nothing in improving your grade. Overall I would not take his course again, as it was difficult to maintain a decent grade due to the exams.
Do not take him
Very kind professor and he would often help you with problems during the class. Main issue is that the class is very test heavy though (90% of your grade), and he isn't a good lecturer. He spends most of his time going over PowerPoint slides. Honestly, for this class you'll have to self study 99% of the time just so you can pass.
He reads off a powerpoint straight from the textbook and don't bother asking for help. Tests are worth 90% of the final grade with weekly homework making up the remaining. A lot of the time he would get behind on the lectures because he's so slow and we would have 2 homeworks do the same weekend. He also does not want to teach, just the research $
If you're a hands on learner, or looking for a professor who gets engaged, this is not the teacher to choose. He reads everything straight off the powerpoint with very little explanation, and is very test heavy with 90% of your grade being exams.
The class is lecture-heavy with exams worth 90% of the grade. To do well, self-study using the textbook and practice problems is a must. unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside other resources.
There's literally NO point in going to the lectures because you're going to have to self-teach the concepts anyway. Literally have not been to a single lecture since the first exam and have been doing decent in the class ONLY because of outside resources and self-teaching. Only take him if you have a lot of time to put into this class.
Would never take this professor. Please don't.
Your exams account for 90% of your grade. Every staff member I've spoken to has advised taking CHEM at a different campus and transferring the credits because the test averages are so low. On the first day of class, the professor basically said, "You're not that smart if you go to tutoring, read your textbook". He does not teach well.
It's so bad that I drop it on my first week. The first thing he said was that if you don't pass the first two test he will request you to drop the class (A RED FLAG RIGHT THERE) So don't do it!! Literally cried on the first week of school because of this class
His lecture slides are quality and helpful to do homework and exams.
Attending his lectures would be pointless, however he provides filled examples when attending, but he is not the best teaching the course. I would not recommend him, but if you can't save yourself rely on the textbook and PRACTICE. Other than that you are on your own in this course. Exams are 90% of you grade btw...
This is the worst professor you can take in college. He does not care about his students. Takes forever to answer emails, and when he does, trust and believe he will be rude. Overall, TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR THAN HIM IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR LIFE.
One of the best professors I've had! He explains everything clearly and really wants his students to succeed. CHEM 1305 can be tough, but he makes it easy to understand. His lectures are well-organized, and he's always willing to help if you have questions. I ended up getting an A thanks to how well he teaches. Highly recommend taking his class
This professor explains chemistry concepts clearly and keeps the class organized. The lectures are easy to follow if you attend regularly and take notes. Homework and quizzes help prepare you for the exams, which are fair and based on what was covered in class.
I took this class during the summer, and it was one of the best experiences I've had. Even with the fast-paced schedule, the professor explained the material clearly and kept everything well-organized. He was always available to help and made sure students stayed on track.
Do not take this guy if you want to keep your sanity. I took him in person and all he would do was come to class & read off the powerpoint. I managed to get an A- solely by using chemistry tutors on youtube. Chem dept sucks here, so your best bet is taking it at a CC.
I don't think he is as bad as most people say, but I will say this his lectures are very boring and that you will have to study a good amount by yourself to get a good grade. I dislike how the exams make up 80% of your grade, but in all honesty, if you study enough for them, you can pass pretty easily. Overall, decent class, and hes a chill prof.
very boring, had to drop class and take it at HCC (i got an A there)
He is very straightforward and is very nice if you speak to him one-on-one. You practically guaranteed 20% if you do the homework and quizzes, and you have 4 exams I recommend studying for the first one the most as it is the easiest and will help you maintain a decent grade. Overall tip STUDY FOR THE CLASS IT IS DIFFICULT!!!
