worst prof ever
No Comments
He's not very good
His tests are from class notes and he tells you what to study. Tests have fill in the blanks, written and m/c. he tells you what the written part will be on. couple video questions.
his class was difficult to understand and unless you have a good biology background you may find this course to be a little too heavy for an introductory course. as a prof he is approachable and is willing to help if you ask but his technique is rushed. he speaks very quickly for a class with so much new terminology he should slow it down.
A great professor. He made it extremely clear what we needed to know for tests. I took primatology with him and enjoyed his class so much that I took 2 other courses he was teaching. He's extremely knowledgeable and he really sparked my interest in the material.
He is awesome! I also took the into to primatology and human evolution--I love the way he teaches, and his exams are easy as long as you study your notes. Make sure you don't miss classes (it'll make you look bad). He is very knowledgeable and makes the course very interesting.I would recommend him!
Fantastic professor. His teaching style is very easy to follow and he makes the class very interesting. Go to all the classes and pay attention and you will do well. He's also a very nice and approachable person if you have any questions.
Roman is one of the best instructors I've ever had. He is knowledgeable and passionate. His lectures are interesting and easy to listen to. Great, in depth powerpoints. Be prepared to take a lot of notes. He will tell you exactly what goes on the exam. Show up, take notes, do reading and study and you will get an A.
NOT GOOD
Worst prof ever. His exam class averages are in the 60s... What does that suggest?Don't take a course with him.
He's great. Very knowledgeable. As long as you go to class you should be fine. He puts his notes in the library so you can copy them and add to them during lecture. If you don't like anthropology don't bother taking the class though. This class is only going to be interesting if you have an interest in the subject matter.
Amazing prof! Very knowledgeable about Anthropology/Archeology in general, he sets you up with a nice information base and then lets you find the topic which interests you most for your term paper.
Loved this class! I learned so much and im kindof sad that its over! Very fair at marking and you have to work hard and take lots of notes! He doesn't use blackboard but he put all of his notes on reserve so i suggest you photocopy them and bring them to class! This man is full of amazing knowledge!
Dr. Harrison is one of the best professors I have had. He can even make required courses entertaining. He is a fair marker. DO NOT skip class-that's where all testable material comes from. Textbook was rarely used. He shows a lot of videos-stay awake they show up on the tests!
i really liked roman's class! while he does put his notes on reserve, it is recommended to go to class because he adds more info to the notes. he was a very fair marker and he made the info very interesting!
I loved the way he taught. He repeats himself a bit sometimes, but he always stays on track and very cleary knows what he is teaching!
This is my second class with Roman, and it will certainly not be my last! I love his teaching style, his notes are pretty easy to follow. He is also really helpful when needed. His tests are almost entirely based on the notes, so study those and you will do just fine! Recommended!
good proft. he talks fast takes a bit to get used to. 95% of the exams are from his lectures not the textbook, but its a great textbook for extra clarification. he does expect you to listen and try. i would suggest attending all classes. notes not on blackboard. one down. he grades your essay based of other students which he didnt explain.
Great teacher! Must go to class to understand material but he makes class fun. For his exams you must read over everything but exams are pretty easy and to the point.
I really enjoyed his Arky class.
He's a really nice guy. However, there is way too much terminology. His exams are a little difficult with tricky questions etc. I just hate anthro..no offense to Roman.
I love taking classes with Harrison! He's very clear with expectations, and is sure to clarify any points you find confusing (not likely, as he repeats himself often). Course material is always covered in a timely manner. He's always on time. He shows interesting videos as well, and is knowledgable in a wide array of topics.
Roman is a fantastic professor, he is extremely helpful and doesn't play tricks on exams. He is a fair marker and genuinely cares about his student's success.
He's a genuine professor, I recommend his class. Lectures are clear, exams are clear (just prepare well). Overall a very good prof.
Great professor! His lectures where thorough enough that I did not need to read the text book. In fact I would suggest to future students of his not to bother spending the money on it.
He is simply the best!!!
Roman is a phenomenal professor. He is very interesting to listen to because he knows his stuff very well and makes it easy to understand. His exams are not cumulative, not even the final. They are easy because they are all from the notes. Go to the library desk and photocopy the notes and add to them in class, very helpful.
Loved his class. Textbook not needed. Exam questions DIRECTLY from notes. Would love to take another of his classes in the future
Good prof. Tells you exactly what he wants and what will be on exams. No surprises.
He is a very passionate and helpful. All he asks for is participation. He will repeat several times if your unsure or missed something for your notes. Textbook is not required. He does not take late assignments.
Roman is extremely organized and is a very fair marker. He lets you know exactly what he expects. I thought this class would be more culture, less bio but I still enjoyed it. He loves anthro and is quite interesting to talk to outside of class!
My first Anth. class and I thought Roman did a great job teaching the material. However, he had very high expectations for his research paper. It's SAA and he expected perfection. I spent about 3 hours on the ref. cited list alone, and I still got points docked. Go to every single class and you will do good on the exams. High stress but fun!!
Very good prof. enjoyed the class every time. Lectures were interesting and everyone needed to be there because he added things in as he went. Well organized and is very knowledgable on this topic. If given the choice pick him. His classes were entertaining and were almost never boring. Best Class so far for an introductory class!
Great Prof! Keep detailed notes and review them often and you'll do great! Worksheets help improve your grade and we watched video often! Gets grade to students quickly and explains how all of his tests, essay, and exams work and what should be included! Definitely recommend him to others! Also has a cool accent lol
I really enjoyed this class with Harrison. He is very easy to listen to, and makes it clear that you are to memorize his notes. Nice having a class that didn't require a textbook. He is a very nice guy and marks generously! Take his class!
Course contains a lot of content and a TON of memorization, but is very interesting. Only two quizzes, one paper (SAA) and the final - which is same format as his quizzes. Challenging, but informative course. Roman is very nice and will stay back to explain anything confusing.
His class was fantastic. He was really helpful and took the extra time to help the students. Not an easy A kind of class but if you work hard then it's totally fine. He gave lots of examples and was enjoyable to have as a prof
Dr. Harrison was fantastic. I have taken him before in Anth 1101 as well as Anth 1102. He is easy to talk to and knows a lot about what he is teaching. His lectures are clear and his tests are very straight forward. Definitely recommend taking a class in which he is teaching.
Have had him a few times. Great prof, keeps you interested. Very friendly, approachable. Tests are simple as long as you know the material. No paper in this class because of the lab, but two simple midterms. Doesn't post on BB but can get notes at the library, but should still attend as notes are incomplete, point form. Great guy. Entertaining.
Roman is passionate, funny, he speaks in a way that keeps you interested the whole time (not monotonous). It was a very cool course to take and he was a very good teacher to take it with. He's smiley and he'll even teach some ethical points of view related to the class. I'm glad I had him.I had a B- because of the lab, not because of his lectures.
His lectures are very organized and detailed. He clearly knows what he is talking about and if you go to class and add to the lecture notes, you won't need the textbook. He is a tough marker and has very high expectations for the research paper. He will not give feedback on the paper and will not remarking it if you feel you deserved a higher mark.
This is one of the classes I have actually been happy to go to. His PP is not finished, he adds in the extra notes during lectures so you have to go to get them. But he keeps it very interesting, and I didn't think this class would be fun. His tests are very straight forward, and the essay is not hard. Would take a class with this prof again.
The course itself was hugely interesting but I found Harrison irritating and pedantic in his lectures. He makes you buy the textbook (which he authored and is full of useless obvious info) but his lectures are recited directly from the text. Tests are on the nitpicky details rather than comprehension of major themes. Not an easy GNED.
Dr. Harrison was a very good prof. He was very clear on what he was teaching and conveyed it well straight out of the lecture slides. The book was kinda unnecessary but all the info from the course is in it. Overall, two interm exams, a paper, in-class worksheets, and the final. I would take it again, he makes it clear what you need to study.
Roman has quickly become one of my favourite professors, he is very easy to learn from and is very engaged with his students. Will try to take another class with him for sure!
He's very hard to understand and his notes are ridiculous. Have fun teaching Latin to yourself. And he never uses blackboard to show your marks so you never know where you are at in the class.
Dr. Harrison is very clear in what he expects from you. He delivers the information in a fun way. Be sure to go to class because he gives you extra info. in addition to the slides. He's patient and will repeat definitions as many times as necessary.
It was an easy GPA booster, but it took a lot of studying and effort to get there. Must show up to every class as the lecture slides are incomplete, but the classes are short and interesting. He made the material (that I'm not interested in) really easy and laid out his expectations on the exams perfectly. He is easily the best prof I've had.
Great prof! I enjoyed his class immensely. Anytime I had a question, he made sure I understood before leaving. His lectures are very clear. I recommend printing out the lecture slides before class and adding to them in class. Grading scheme is straight forward. Text book was unnecessary because his exams were based of the notes.
Attendance not mandatory but very useful as he uses his own slides with lots of supplemental information for each slide in lectures.
Very tough and unfair test grader
Great prof, tests are based off of his powerpoints. Learned alot, made complicated material seem straightforward. Highly recommend!
Dr. Harrison is such an amazing Anthropology Prof. He definitely knows what he's talking about. Very clear and easy to pass. Questions on exams are easy if you actually study and do the reading everyday. I would recommend him anytime to anyone who wants to take ANTH1101!
10/10 Teacher. Very passionate about what he teaches and is very easy to approach. Best professor I've ever had.
Mixed feelings. Good lectures: Definitely engaging and well explained. Very animated personality and is quite entertaining. Easy worksheets. Shows a lot of films. Problem is tests: Brute memorization from slides. Q's are not representative of true understanding. All about matching names to faces and remembering insignificant, nitpicky details.
I absolutely love Roman. He is everything I want in a professor, his lectures are fun, entertaining, and educational! Everything about this guy spews passion, and I absolutely love how much he's into Anthropology. When a professor loves monkeys as much as Roman does, you know they're gonna be amazing.
Lots of fun in class time. Roman jokes around and has a great classroom environment. Very lecture heavy class, pay attention during lectures or else good luck. Gives you lots of opportunities to do well, absolutely loved his class.
His lectures are very interesting and he knows a lot about what is on the slides. The things he says during lectures are noteworthy and will be on tests. Exams are based on lectures. His course very organised and professional which made him very respectable. He is easy to understand and tells you what you need to know. One of my favourite teachers!
Was a little harder than I expected for an into class but if you study you'll be fine.
You can tell he's very educated in what he teaches and really cares about it! If you ask a question slightly off topic, he will always answer to the best of his abilities and look into for you if he doesn't know. Honestly one of my favourite professors to date.
Roman is awesome- he is extremely passionate about what he teaches and explains things very well! I loved his lectures, he gave lots of examples and makes sure everyone knows what is going on. 10/10 would take his class again!
Dr Harrison was an incredible prof, one of my favourites. He is very passionate about his field. He is always available to ask questions and to assist you with whatever you need. Tests can be slightly difficult but if you study you should do fine. The only thing I wish he would do differently is post grades on blackboard throughout the semester.
Roman Harisson is a great professor in terms of teaching the majority of the content (which is quite heavy). All of the notes are available on blackboard which is very helpful for studying. I will say however he often doesn't emphasize the importance of knowing certain content which can lead to being unprepared for difficult tests.
Dr. Harrison is really passionate about his work but unbelievably disorganized in his powerpoint slides. His slides are very hard to understand and are put together poorly. Yes, he does have passion for his field of study and this does shine through but his lack of organizational skills become overpowering. This class is also very lecture heavy.
He posts all his notes on slides where he makes his tests from, just show up to class cause that's when he explains the slides and goes into detail and maybe give you some hints on what areas to focus on. didn't bother with the textbook.
Great prof! Easy A if you show up to class and pay attention. You won't get a good grade from just looking at his powerpoint slides since he explains them during lectures. His lectures are super easy to follow and very interesting, great mix of discussion, films, and worksheets. Take a class with him if you can!
There is a textbook but I found that the midterm and final were based on the lecture slides only. Also show up to class because he goes into much more detail. He doesnt update blackboard at all. Hes kind of a hard marker and he has a clear grading criteria so dont bother arguing with him at all.
roman was one of the best anthro profs i've had. he is super passionate in his field and it shows. his powerpoint slides are always posted on blackboard but make sure to go to class because he explains them in further detail. his midterms and final is based on the slides and a few movies so its not super hard as long as you show up and take notes.
Great prof, explains things really well but make sure you show up to class or you won't do that good. Classes are always organized and he doesn't rush through anything. Exams are pretty easy, always based on the PowerPoint slides and there are a few in-class assignments. One of the best anth profs, take a class with him if you can
Due to COVID-19, professors were expected to adapt to sudden changes. Roman only emailed 3-4 times since uni has been closed. He expected us to teach ourselves. 3 tests worth 30% each, 2 of which were m/c and s/a. For the final, an email was sent out A WEEK before informing the class is going to be an ESSAY. I would not recommend.
Doesn't take attendance, but the slides are vague and need to be fleshed out by what he goes over in the lectures. Do not suggest skipping any classes as what was tested was almost all from lectures/slides! Really nice and knowledgeable, but quite a lot of memorization of dates/places etc.
If you show up, read the textbook, and do the class group projects, then you will pass. Great teacher, I would take any class he taught.
He did not handle the online switch very well but it was unexpected. The mark for the whole course consisted of 3 tests and a couple of in class sheets that you cannot get lower than a 100 on which is great. I wished that there were more assignments to boost my grade. The final was switched to an essay and I was not prepared at all.
WORST PROF EVER. LAZY. Online course and he just uploads crap PowerPoints that are out of order with the textbook and doesn't give any detail. Would NEVER take a class from him again. Totally taking advantage of a pandemic to do the absolute least amount of work. Requires us to buy HIS textbook then doesn't teach. Brutal.
Horribly unhelpful. This prof has done absolutely nothing during online learning this semester besides posting the worst PowerPoint slides ever, and one word doc of notes. His only communication with us has been "this week: read the notes." Thanks for nothing, prof. Waste of my time and money. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
I had Harrison's ANTH1101 class a few years ago and it was one of my favourite classes to date at MRU. However, this year with online classes it seems as though he has put in a minimal amount of work. I understand it is a difficult time, but the 2 previous reviews are spot on. It has been really disappointing as he was one of my favourite profs.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He made it so difficult for no reason. he doesn't provide any sort of lecture and just says to "read notes" every week. Literally the most pointless course I've taken. I asked him for feedback about what specifically went wrong during my interm exam, and he gave no feedback. do not take this class.
Honestly I was so disappointed. I had friends that took classes with him in previous years, and had nothing but great things to say. This year I decided to take his class and it sucks. He gives no feedback and instruction as to what to do are minimal. The comments before are so spot on it's sad.
This course was asynchronous so as long as you do the readings and answer the questions listed for the midterms and finals you should be okay. Be aware though that there is a one hour limit and quite a lot of questions to formulate into a coherent essay.
Roman is amazing regardless of what ANTH class you take with him. I have taken 3 classes with him and specifically register for his sections. He tests you exactly on the material you have learned and there are no specific lecture meet times so you ca go through the content at your leisure. It is almost impossible to do poorly in his class.
Don't take it! Powerpoints are very disorganized, and doesn't give good feedback at all. This async course consists ONLY of 2 midterms and a final. Hard marker, and I feel like he doesn't even look at my essays because all 3 of my assignments have the same grade and "feedback". Not helpful, don't recommend. Not interactive with students at all.
This is my 3rd class with Dr. Harrisson and although he puts in minimal effort, his classes are usually a GPA booster as he is a very easy grader. His exams are essay-focused and clearly explain what he's looking for.
The course was online and asynchronous so I never actually met or spoke to him, but this course with Roman was fantastic. He posts the lecture material at the beginning of the semester and sends weekly emails regarding what chapter to do that week. Allows you to work at your own pace / when you are less busy in other courses. Highly recommended!
This class was asynch and we did 2 essay question assignments and one final that was two essays. All of it was open book so the only difficult thing about the class was completing the essay within the time limit of class (1 hr). Grades decently easily as long as you answer all of the questions in your essay. Easy, non-time consuming GNED. recommend
super nice guy. really passionate for what he teaches which makes it enjoyable to sit in the lecture. He only grades on about 2 worksheets which are really easy, and the tests are easy if you study. did not use the textbook.
Roman tells you to buy the textbook, then tells you if you want to pass you cannot rely on the textbook. Then I realized he is one of the authors of the book, hence why he wants you to buy it. He penalizes those who don't come to class by making the tests explicitly based on what was talking about in class. He makes the tests incredibly hard!
Not the worst professor, just MIA. At this point, I have taken enough online classes to dictate whether or not a professor is efficient or lazy with it. Two midterms and a final. Exams are not very difficult, you basically teach the class to yourself. Hard to follow slides and you read chapters by yourself. Not my fave way to learn.
Dr. Harrison was a fantastic guy and great professor. His (in-person) ANTH1105 class was one of my favorites. Lectures were always interesting. Attendance is a must because he posts bare-bones power points which he fills in with his lectures. I attended every class and did most of the textbook readings and managed a 100% on the final exam.
