Makes class interesting!
He is very interesting and makes Chemistry not as boring as it is. I would recommend him to anyone looking to take Chem 1153!!
Great chem teacher! Funny, interesting, and not too hard of a grader. Let's you know what will be on tests and grades them on a curve. One of the best chem teachers I have ever had! Would recommend him to anyone.
Mr Lakhan is easily the best chem teacher I have ever had. I was dreading taking chemistry, but he totally wiped away my fears. He makes class very interesting and lets you know exactly what you need to know. With his teaching this is actually my best class this semester. Take him!
Really easy to learn from, always helpful. Even in a huge lecture hall professor Lakhan still took the time to learn my name the first time I was in office hours. He uses interesting, unique examples that make lecture more interesting. He'll tell funny and interesting stories to break up your monotonousness day. Highly recommended!
Really nice guy, not rude to students, doesn't make anyone feel dumb. I am not a fan of Chemistry, and I still didn't mind this class.
Mr. Lakhan is absolutely the best chem teacher I have ever had. He uses useful examples and tells interesting stories to make class interesting. He is very engaging! Also, what's on his homework is on the quiz and what is on the quiz is on the exam and what is on the exam is on the final! He's really approachable too! I recommend taking him 100%.
Romesh is a G! No doubt one of the best professors at the university! If you have the opportunity to take class with him, do it.
Lakhan was one of the best professors I've ever had. I dreaded chemistry coming into this class but he got me interested in it. He's really funny and gets the whole lecture hall laughing to keep everyone interested. I recommend him to anyone.
Lakhan is the BEST professor. He makes class interesting by telling stories and is very clear on his explanations. He is very interactive during class and he is HILARIOUS! If you go into office hours, he is very understanding and never makes you feel dumb. He's just overall, a great teacher and friendly person.
He is a very fun professor! I highly recommend taking him for Gen Chem 1! To do well in his class go to class and take notes, he explains things with funny examples.
I highly recommend taking chemistry with Romesh! Before every exam, there is a review session with a packet that is essentially the exam. He is always telling funny stories in class and seems like a great guy!
GREAT professor! By far my favorite thus far at UMD. Made learning Chemistry actually enjoyable!!
Lakhan is an awesome professor! He keeps class fun and interesting by telling random stories from his life, be it something funny that happened recently, or something that actually makes class seem relatable to the real world. He's super nice, and really easy to talk to. I would recommend ANYONE to take ANY class he offers. You'll be glad you did!
Honestly I was scared coming in to this class. I hated chem in high school and was terrible at it. He made it awesome! he was so helpful! go to lecture, will give out a couple points for attendance. the tests can be tricky but he prepares you very well for them.
Brilliantly clear, understandable, funny, and helpful. I hate chemistry, but loved this course. Just take him, you won't regret it
The best Chem teacher! Loved the class and loved him. He made everything so fun and easy to understand. I thought his exams were much easier to go through than that of another teacher. Doesn't try to trick you but just test your knowledge of the material. Great guy. Will miss him!
Lakhan is a pretty cool guy, he makes the lectures fun with demonstrations and jokes. Most of his jokes aren't funny but they help pass the time. Sometimes I feel like he doesn't know how to answer our questions but he makes it through somehow.
Lakhan reminds me of a friendly, nerdy uncle. He explains everything nice and slow, but he schedules tests on the worst days- November 1st (the day after Halloween) and the day after Thanksgiving break.. At least he hands out study guides so we're aware of what's going to be on the test. He's the best professor I've had this semester.
Knows how to make the subject interesting and fun. Clearly is a life long learner and loves the subject. One of the few instructors I have had that I actually look forward to seeing.
Best chem prof at UMD
Best teacher I have ever had, always looked forward to going to his class unlike any other class I've ever taken
Lakhan is an okay teacher. He teaches well enough to pass the class as long as you know a bit about chemistry. Sometimes he gets lost and has a hard time explaining how to do certain problems. Lakhan is a super nice person and uses personal examples in his lecture which make them more enjoyable. If you know some chem defiantly take him.
Very clear and helpful. Tests were harder than expected. Just gotta study a lot to get a good grade
Professor Lahkan was great teacher. I had a lot of trouble with chemistry early on and he sat down with me and let me know what I had to do to turn my grade around. Tests are harder then expected but if you put an adequate amount of time studying you will do just fine.
Very good chem teacher! explains very well and if you know anything about chem you will do great.
Best professor I've had so far! I've always had trouble with chemistry, but he explains everything very well with examples and demonstrations. I always looked forward to going to class.
Great professor great class.
Lakhan introduces a learning environment that is comfortable to everyone. He is extremely easy to listen to and cracks jokes constantly. Highly recommended.
Best Chem prof in the league
Easy-going, funny, gives excellent examples relating to chemistry. All around a good teacher who makes you feel like you enjoy his company. Makes his lectures worth going to. He's fun to listen to and he doesn't drone his voice making you bored within the first 15 minutes.
Very respectable and there to help students!
Many demonstrations which are dangerous and entertaining, as well as help you remember the material. Greatest class imaginable. Be prepared to work for an A, but it will pay off. Lakhan relates easily to students and always makes his lectures fun. He has put his life on the line many times during experiments and filled the lecture hall with smoke.
Professor Lakhan is a really funny guy and always makes going to lecture a good time. That being said, he easily gets off of topic while lecturing and has a tendency to make subject matter more confusing than it should be. Great teacher if you're looking for a fun class, just be prepared to do some self-teaching to understand topics.
Professor Lakhan is HILARIOUS!!! He's so dorky and likable! But he can get really off topic quickly. He definitely makes class entertaining but personally, for me, he can get pretty confusing in his lectures. But all of his lectures are based off of his online power points. If you review them, I'm sure you'll do fine on his exams.
Professor Lakhan makes class enjoyable and worth attending. Be prepared for clicker questions! Even though the class has a lot of students in it, he makes it feel like a small class. His examples are really helpful and he is always willing to answer questions. He can be a bit geeky and is easily distracted. Take his class if you can!
Professor Lakhan is a great guy. He is very funny and has great stories. He actually makes Chemistry fun. If you are taking Gen Chem 1, try your best to get him as your professor!
Lakhan is by far the best chem teacher I have ever had. He is super funny and tells dorky stories. He does get off of topic some and distracted, but I'm able to follow along since I'm also that way. He does some experiments in class. Over all the class goes by quick because he actually makes it so you want to learn.
Looking back I think he not such a great teacher as everybody is saying - yes it was an easy A. However, initially I was struggling in Organic Chemistry though. Students who had taken General Chemistry with other professors were better prepared for Organic Chemistry. - So be aware.
Lakhan is one of the best teachers I know at making lectures engaging. That being said, occasionally he makes material seem harder to understand than it needs to be. While this is true, he is always willing to find a simpler way to do things; he is very open to people's suggestions. While he has pros and cons, I do highly recommend him as a teacher
A lot of people love Lakhan but his teaching style really didn't work for me, oddly I ended up doing very well in Gute's chem 2 class. Lakhan is a great guy I just think he falls short when it comes to clarity.
He's more of an entertainer than a teacher. He teaches concepts very confusing when they could be a lot clearer and simpler. I had to reference my textbook a couple times to try and relearn the concepts because of his lecture type. A good thing is that he posts his lectures on Moodle but he doesn't post the actual work and examples.
AMAZING professor! He is dedicated to students, takes his time on problems, and creates tests that are exactly like the material learned. He is funny and tells stories that keep you engaged throughout his whole lecture. Never dreaded attending his class. If you show up, follow along, and do the homework, there is no reason you can't get an A!
He is my favorite professor, the best one I've had. He is hilarious, all his students love him and he makes the topic interesting and enjoyable to learn, particularly because you can tell he loves it too. Take his class if you can!
He is a great professor! He keeps Chem pretty interesting. Trust me when I say, you won't go a lecture without laughing. He cares about students and teaches you all the material you need to know for tests and quiz's. I highly suggesting take a course with him.
AWESOME lectures. He really made everything super easy to understand. If you're struggling he's more than willing to help. He really cares and just wants to see you pass. Easy to pay attention to, does some fun demonstrations in class and actually can take a 200 student lecture and get people involved.
It is clear that professor Lakhan was meant to teach! He brings amazing energy to the classroom everyday. Although distracted easily, topics covered in class are exactly what will be on the exams- but the exams are rough! So study up.
Lakhan is an amazing professor. He will make you laugh everyday and make you want to be there. Always go to class, do your homework, and study a little bit everynight, and this will be an easy A. Not to mention his TA's are pretty awesome.
Entertaining lectures, and clearly cares about students. Made a relatively boring class fun. Performed cool experiments in lecture, which helped illustrate concepts. Clicker questions were easy, and basically just used to take attendance
Not a big fan of chemistry, but this class is easy to follow and professor is great.
Prof. Lakhan is passionate about his course materials and makes difficult chemistry concepts easy to learn. He is very funny and approachable, and really cares about his students. I enjoyed going to his lectures and learned a lot in Chem I!
Lakhan is one of my favorite professors. He explains tough concepts very clearly and makes sure everyone understands what is going on. He creates an awesome classroom atmosphere and does some cool experiments in class! The only complaint I have is during office hours he is not super helpful unless you only have one question.
Super funny professor that made the class somewhat fun to attend. Kept attendance with occasional clicker questions. Homework assignments were not frequent but usually took a while to complete.
The man. Lakhan's lectures are a treat. Tends to digress often, but it's a nice breather. Lots of examples in class. Exam is fair. Really, really good prof. Explains the material clearly and doesn't go too fast. Only tests on what he covered in lecture. You don't need to read the book, but I'd do at least a few examples before an exam.
Uses good metaphors and "dumbs" things down so they're easier to understand.
Professor Lakhan is one of the best instructors I have ever had. He makes Chemistry interesting. He is approacable and has a lot of chemistry related stories/tangents to tell. Class is extremely managable. Take Chem 1 with Lakhan!!!!
Best teacher ever! If I could have Lakhan for every science class I would. Makes really tough concepts seem easy and if he sees that people aren't getting it he will re explain and try and make it understandable. You can tell he cares about his students.
Quizzes prepare you well for test
This class was extremely important to attend. On all days of class we had clicker points. Then on most Fridays we'd have either quizzes or tests. He gives a lot of advice on homework/quizzes/tests during class. His lectures are super interesting and you learn a lot! However, he is really hard to work with if you have to miss class for any reason.
Great guy. Exams were notably difficult but didnt mind going to lectures.
Great guy, and fairly easy class if you took high school chemistry. Hes funny during lectures and keeps you entertained. I had him at 8 am so some people didn't show up, but there is an occasional clicker question. He's always available during his office hours and almost nobody goes, but he is helpful. I now enjoy chemistry more.
Does a good job of making things interesting to learn more about.
Lakhan is a really great professor. His lectures are very good and he makes learning chemistry really fun. If you need help with anything he is a very good at making time to meet with you. Clicker questions are almost everyday, but there are not too many and they are pretty easy. Exams are somewhat difficult, but class and quizzes prepare you.
Professor Lakhan is a real gem when it comes to Chemistry professors. His lectures are typically entertaining and he keeps the mood light. Lakhan is in favor of generalizations when it comes to chemistry, and does not find reason to have students memorize pointless facts. Most important, he is very caring and makes it clear he loves what he does.
Professor Lakhan is a very good chemistry teacher. I have never liked chemistry until his class. He does more of a flipped type classroom where his lectures are about 15-20 minutes and then homework problems are the rest of class. Theres also online homework every week. If you understand the homework and do the problems, you should do well on tests
Ive never liked chemistry before, but Professor Lakhan made every lecture very interesting. He is an amazing professor and obviously cares about his students. Professor Lakhan wants his students to pass. I never even used the textbook, his lectures gave me enough information for the exams. Dont skip class because thats when most homework is due.
Professor Lahkan doesn't have clicker points in class but does have questions during the slides and likes to call on people to answer them. He always called on people wearing hats, so if you don't want to get called on, do not wear a hat.
Hard but great lecture
One of the best professors I have ever had! Lakhan did fun experiments in class to connect the concepts we were learning to the real world, and he made his lectures brief and interesting. He did a sort of flipped classroom with our class, so we could get his help easier on the homework. I don't think I opened my book once after the first week.
Even though Lakhan's class was an 8am, I really enjoyed going. The lectures were so easy to follow and he is hilarious! The tests are definitely fair and are easy to prepare for. There are in-class assignments that are graded and handed back. I read the book prior to class which also really helped to understand the material. Overall great professor
He's everything you want a professor to be. Intelligent, helpful, and tells bad jokes. I hated chemistry in high school but I love it after taking Lakhan's class. He really wants all of his students to succeed and will not try to trick you on exams. If you show up and complete the worksheets, you'll do just fine.
funny guy, but oversimplifies everything too much. Tests are very difficult as they are usually a lot harder than anything he ever taught in class. Most of what you need to learn is on our own either googling and doing sapling assignments as he only goes on the surface level of everything, leaving you on your own on more in depth content, like hw
Romesh is the absolute worst. He acts like he cares about you but in all reality, hes just wants you to do more and more for him. He tests are insane and theres stuff on there hes never covered. He doesn't always give you the material that you need when you need it. Do not take this man. He'd rather be making lousy jokes than actually teaching.
Really relied on Khan Academy to learn everything, got 100% on homework but still failed tests. Really don't recommend this class, you'll feel lost most of the time in homework and tests. Online tests are way too short and worded super weird, I kept failing them but did so good on my homework and it was just so confusing. Try to get a dif prof.
Seems caring but holy crap are you going to struggle. You have to learn a lot on your own due to his lectures teaching you NOTHING. Lectures are super short and quick but don't cover anything deep enough. Tests and homework are tough just because you don't know what your doing, hope you like Khan Academy lol. Cool guy but HORRIBLE teacher.
Three harsh reviews in 24 hours? Is it possible they were all written by the same pissed-off student? Look, professor Lakhan's class had daily lecture videos, skeletal notes to fill in, practice assignments, daily on-line help sessions, and even practice exams. If you cannot earn a C or better with all that support, the problem is you.
I failed chemistry but I am excited to see him again, He's an awesome professor- it's just a tough class. go to class every day to get the worksheets. they add up a ton when it comes to your final grade. He is a kind dude and will brighten your day
A real gem. This class was way more enjoyable than my high school chemistry class. He offers a lot of help, and wants his students to succeed. Its a hard class, but you just need to put the work in. His lectures were really engaging and exciting.
One of the best professors I have had! Lakhan's lectures are very easy to understand and incredibly entertaining. He has a great sense of humor and lectures are usually filled with nerdy jokes. Tests are a little difficult but if you study the material you shouldn't have a problem getting an A or a B. AMAZING PROFESSOR!
I never met the guy because it was an online course. Good lecture videos and notes and homework was NOT busywork and was actually helpful and pertained to the subject. Tests are exactly like the homework. Just keep up with your work and you will do just fine.
Great teacher, would take again. Makes learning fun, not a boring class to attend in any way.
So glad I took Professor Lakhan's class. He did a great job with this mess of online classes, and had the most organized Canvas page I've ever seen. From what I've heard he is great in person too. There were no required Zooms, so the class was all on your own time, which worked great for me as he staggered due dates to ensure consistent learning.
Prof. Lakhan is the best chemistry professor you can find. While his lectures can be cheesy and he can get off topic occasionally, he is overall a great professor and is always there to help.
Prof Lakhan is an amazing teacher and super nice, highly recommend! His lectures are interesting and super helpful, and the worksheets are great practice to prepare for the exams. The online homework can be frustrating, but it's not too bad. He makes chem 1 easy to digest, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else!
hes great
He's literally the best professor I've ever had. He makes the lectures fun and I genuinely looked forward to going to class everyday. I 100% recommend taking him for gen chem 1 you won't get any better.
Very fun lectures while still covering material adequately.
The class was listed as asynchronous but we still had mandatory meetings worth 20% of our grade. The labs had so many errors that it was impossible to finish without asking for help. Wasn't respectful on one on one sessions. I'm already spending thousands of dollars to be here if I wanted to be disrespected I could just walk around down town duluth
I took prof. Lakhan for CHEM 1114 and out of all the teachers I've had thus far, he has been the best yet. The in-class worksheets are very helpful and are great studying tools for the tests. All tests are online but proctored-even if you get B's and C's on tests, there is still a possibility to get an A in the class. Overall amazing professor.
hilarious and entertaining prof, really made you want to come to a chemistry lecture at 9 am on a winter morning somehow
If I could, I would take all my gen STEM classes with Professor Lakhan. I've never understood chemistry better; he explains everything thoroughly and in different manners that are very understandable. He's also extremely nice, approachable, and hilarious.
Very enthusiastic about teaching chemistry
Amazing!!!! Thats all I have to say!!!
11/10 prof, very fun to attend lectures.
There are few classes, especially lectures I look forward to, but somehow, Professor Lakhan managed to get me excited about chemistry every lecture. It's basically impossible to get bored in his class. However, he does have high expectations, so I recommend going to TA office hours as much as possible.
Lakhan is amazing. Incredibly friendly guy, very very helpful, plus one of the most engaging teachers I've ever had. He sounds like he's truly passionate about what he's teaching, which is huge. He's also hilarious and makes chemistry lectures entertaining. He's also very flexible with things like mental health days and homework help.
I loved him! If you have to take a chemistry class and can, take him! The way he structures his courses are for students! He makes it super easy to learn and develop the skills in order to succeed within the class. Is super funny, and made learning organic and biochem fun. Was definitely my favorite class of the semester. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
Makes learning very entertaining so the lectures aren't boring. He is passionate about what he teaches. Has a great sense of humor.
Absolutely amazing. Skeletal notes are great, and the guy is very genuine and wants his students to succeed. Sets you up for success. Strongly recommend.
Professor Lakhan wants his students to succeed and takes feedback very seriously. He does an active learning approach to lectures which are very helpful for students. He spends about 15-20 minutes lecturing and then we have 25-30 minutes to work on the active learning worksheet and ask questions.
I'm not a chem major but this guy is great. Responds to emails quickly, straightforward grading and syllabus, let's you resubmit notes if you miss a point. Difficult class, lot of reading/notes/homeworks, but the 4 tests are not heavily weighted. Just do the work and study a bit and you'll do good. Great prof. Would recommend.
Prof. Lakhan is goated. His lectures are hilarious and very informative. I learned so much from this class and would recommend it. The tests and assignments are not too difficult but are a good test of knowledge. His style of teaching is top tier and anyone can succeed in his class. You will want to go to class every day. Labs are fun too.
His online class is the best class I've ever taken. The canvas page was very well set up and he actually listens to student feedback. He also makes it pretty easy to study and I know what will be on every exam.
I have never once gotten tired or distracted in one of his lectures. He makes learning fun and makes sure you understand the topic he is talking about. Please take this teacher.
Take Professor Lakhan! He is a great professor whose teaching style is engaging and rewarding. He gives in-class worksheets to help practice the learning material, and an online homework is due every week. It is super manageable. Put in the work, and you will do great.
Romesh seems like he has a sense of humor to him but this class was pretty much me teaching myself. No meetings, nothin just lots of notes, homework and exams (which are proctored). The experiments were impossible to understand and if you screw up on 1 thing, you pretty much fail the experiment. the homework is a challenge and the notes can be too.
Awesome and funny professor. There was 3 exams and a final with homework (1-20 questions, unlimited attempts) every week and worksheets everyday in class. He lectured for around 20-40 minutes with time to work on worksheets and ask questions after. Take him if you can before he retires. One of my favorite classes at UMD.
Although I had him for an online course, he was very responsive to emails. Unlike some of my other courses, I liked how he had a clear outline of due dates and test dates on the syllabus. If you plan on taking this class, just to note; this class is very demanding, and it has a heavy workload.
Prof. Lakhan's CHEM1114 class is a must-take! His lectures are engaging and he makes the material super accessible. The in-class worksheets are super helpful, and unstuck ai was a game-changer for my test prep. Definitely worth attending every class.
His lecture videos were always great to listen to and his TAs were really nice & responsive! Exams were hard asl, no curve. Honorlock SUCKED. I had to teach myself almost everything from the textbook and through the skeletal notes and I had to use outside sources like the organic chem tutor on youtube. Great prof, liked him as a person--mid course.
