He was funny, but talked about himself the entire class. I didn't learn anything about English. I'm not even sure what my grade was based on. We wrote a few papers and he allowed us to revise them for a better grade but he graded harshly.
Very hard course. He does ramble on about nothing all the time, but grades his papers very harshly. Nothing is ever good enough for him. And don't expect to understand any of the notes he gives on your papers. Sloppiest handwriting ever.
If you want to know the ilfe story of Ron Bohannon, take this class. If you want to learn english, take this class from a different instructor. I honestly think he just gives C's to everyone is his classes. You never know his expectataions.
Nothing is ever good enough for this man! We had around 25 people in our class to begin with and only 11 people finished, none with A's! He is not hot!
this professor sucks. If you have to take english don't take it by him.
This was the very first class I ever attended at UVSC. I didn't really know what I was getting into when I walked in. I always pictured professors with grey hair, glasses, jacket with patches on the elbows. He was in pajamas, had a big ol fro, and looked like he just rolled out. Interesting guy.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I didn't learn a dang thing. He doesn't know anything about English; he is just straight full of himself. I don't know if he even has a teaching certificate; he shouldn't be teaching at all. Don't take this class from him it will only lower your GPA.
very nice and interesting but didnt learn much. rambles on random stories most are about him. wrote a couple papers and revised them 20 times but none of htem were good enough, grades harshly. didnt learn much about english
I took Ron's class about 1.5 years ago and loved it. I learned a ton. Got an "A" and yes, I had to work hard. I would imagine if you're going to be an ENGL major you'll appreciate his class...if not...you'll hate it. I learned a ton and yes, he's a Tangent King - makes class interesting.
He wasn't clear and nothing is ever good enough for him. You only write 2 or 3 papers in his class but he just scribbles all over them and makes you feel like crap. Don't take a class from this teacher.
THREE WORDS: WORST TEACHER EVER! Do not take this teacher unless you are a female he can flert with. You might have get a better expirence if you have a great fugure and blond hair. Good luck Ron!
He is hard but easy at the same time. Those girls who thought he was flirting with them need to get over themselves. He’s not from Utah so he seems different that’s what makes him so interesting. Participate in his class and do your assignments and if your struggling talk to him he’ll help you out.
I think writing is easy. If you know what is expected, you do not need a lot of help. Then it is fun. So, why cry?
Ron is a great teacher. Yes you have to work. but its a fun class to participate in.
If you don't write your paper exactly how he wants it you'll get a B-. So unless you can read minds you won't get an A. Class is really boring because all he does is ramble about Chicago and his stupid stories. I wouldn't recomend this teacher to my worst enemy.
very interesting i enjoy the tangents - you have to have a sense of humor with this guy, but if you do, you'll be fine. i never thought i'd like philosophy, but i do now.
Ron is the worst teacher I have ever had.
Kinda confused...

I was surpised to see those ratings. I took his class and loved it. If you are not self motivated you won't do well in his class because you have to revise your papers a lot in order to get a good grade. I thought he was way cool and enjoyed his stories and laid back class atmosphere.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I got a A in class but was always confused on his expectations (he didn't know what he wanted either). Very disorganized and sexually inappropriate. Very stuck on himself. Find another teacher...you'll learn a lot more!
Took his class in the past and have avoided him in the halls ever since! WORST TEACHER EVER! Does very little other than tell stories about various inappropriate actives from his childhood in Chicago. Don't get me wrong, I not a stiff but this was overboard.
I was surprised to see the low ratings too. He's an awesome teacher and it willing to give anyone an A, as long as they do the work. BEST ENGLISH TEACHER EVER!
I'm way surprised to see those low ratings too. He was a way cool guy.We never really did anything in our class. I mean there is work in this class, but not as much as everyone else I know who took an Ethics and Values class. No Tests, No anything,I don't even think he took role much, The only thing you have to do is turn a portfolio in at the end
If you were considering dropping out of school take his class and you won't think twice about giving up your academic career forever. I would rather swallow my tongue than ever take a calss from him again.
he is very laid back, and often gives you longer than he originally says to turn in your papers. he is not very clear about what he wants sometimes, but once you figure him out, the class is easy. he's always willing to help you if you just ask.
he was a bit ambiguous about what he wanted, but if you continued asking questions you could understand. he is very laid back and very willing to help if you asked.the stories were funny at times and random, but applicable.i liked him, and the work load was easy enough if you didnt procarastanate.chapter reviews and 2 papers, easy stuff.
As said before, he really unclear about what he wants. However, the work load is relatively easy. Just don't procrastinate, and be very assertive and ask him exactly what he wants. I'm not gonnna lie...I didn't like his teaching at first, but if you get his system down, it's fairly easy.
This guy has a problem combing his hair, but is great with deciphering the gell of this subject. I think that everyone would benefit from taking this class ontologically. Take it and you wont regret it, plus, you pay for school, so get the most out of it.
if you want a good teacher, that is understanding, take him. I took him for english and philosophy and you don't stress much about his class. In philosophy you don't have a midterm or final. you just revise your papers. piece of cake. don't listen to anyone who dislikes him. take him and you will see.
He talks and talks and it eventually becomes a waste of a class period. He's unclear about what exactly he wants and seems to contradict himself later on. Although He's very understanding and flexible when it comes to turning things in.
There are no tests just chapter summaries and one big research paper. And you don't turn in anything until the end of the semester and you know what you have to do so you can be done with everything mid semester. Just make sure you always come to class and participate and you will get an A! I recommend him!
I would say that his class is the easiest, but its not. Yet the work you are required to do is not hard and provides a great way to look at life. You should take his class because he has been in your shoes and teaches that way.
Bohannon is an great guy, very understanding, cooperative. He is a smart guy and his knowledgeable of his subjects, you just have to go to to class and be on the ball about things or you can fall behind easily. He tends to assign alot of busy work, usually there is something due every class period.
Lots of homework, and boring rambling lectures.
I would not recommend taking this class. There is a lot of homework that has to been done to his "perfection" or you have to re do it until it says what he wants it to say. Bohannon is very full of himself. His lectures are more of the class teaching him unless he "knows" you're wrong, and over all the class feels like a dictatorship.
I wouldn't recomend his class. I took him for Ethics and Values and stopped going after the third week. He rambles and it eventually feels like a waste of time. He is very picky with this grading system/grammar/format & goes back and forth on what he wants. Everything is due at the end of the semester, which wasn't stressful but I didn't learn much
Ron was AWESOME! He is a very easy teacher to work with. His greatest expectaion is that you learn to think about the world around you and be open minded. There is some busy work but it's pretty easy. You must have a good since of humor. One of the best classes I've ever taken.
The most recent posting must have been done by Ron himself. He is so full of himself, and that hair - retched! Take a class from Ron and it will be a decision you regret for the rest of your life, if your "philosophy" does not agree with his, you are graded poorly. Also he grades on grammar and form, not content.
I took him a few years ago. The class was not easy, but overall it wasn't hard either. Stresful at times, but I learned a lot and found him interesting. if you like Philosophy, you will be fine.
Don't do it, enough said!
People who dislike Ron must also dislike learning. He is engaging and brilliant. He is awesome and easy to talk to outside of class as well. If you want to learn and be challenged take his class(es), he teaches a bit of everything (communications and english and philosophy). Smart, intriguing, awesome teacher and person.
Ron was very unorganized, he frequently showed up 10 minutes late. Homework assignments were not made clear at all. He also had a tendency to ramble and get off subject. No tests, but lots of papers to write.
I can't believe UVSC still allows Ron to teach. Worst teacher ever, those that gave him good ratings must be girls, he loves the girls! DON'T TAKE ANYTHING FROM HIM!!!!
Overall Ron is a good teacher and I recommend his class. He tends to ramble and is interesting at times and quite boring at others. He cares a great deal about his students but often jumps to conclusions about your work. He was nice but I felt that he didn't try very hard to understand my opinions when he didn't get it right away.
Classes were long and usually boring and full of stories about his life. He has his favorites in the class. Did not learn much other than how to write tons of papers. You never know your grade in the class, so its hard to gage where you are. Not a great teacher, but not the worst I have ever had for sure.
Had him for Public Speaking. Easy class, but I had the block class. I understand he was harder for the full semester. We had 8 speeches in 8 weeks, and had to do them all. If you're not scared to talk 3 mins, 8 times then no worries. I got an A in this class. His hair is terrible, he talks ALOT about himself and growing up in the hood of Chicago.
This class was the worst class I've ever taken. I did everything I was supposed to and he still gave me a C- not only that when i fought for my grade he said he couldn't change it. Since then he has changed almost everyone else's grades. He is changing a friend's grade from a C to an A just because he has a class with them right now. ron sucks
Three Words.....DON'T DO IT!!!
Ron is a very skilled teacher! Sometimes the expectations are a bit un- clear but he is always willing to help. If you want to learn to write good take this class. It's not too hard, you just have to write a lot (a good thing if you ask me).
Ron is a complete idot!!! This class is biggest wast of time. The only thing you will learn is how to write 20 typed papers about junk and a 10 page report. Ron is extreamly unorganized and not clear on any expectations. Relly you are better off taking this class from my little sister. really if there is any other options available TAKE THEM!!!
I loved this class and learned alot. The person that wrote the last review probably never did the work. He is one of my favorite prof. and he is willing to help you with anything. I love his discussions, always interesting and helps you understand Philosophy. He is a really good guy and cares about your grades and is willing to help you.
I did everything he asked and only received a C. He gives everybody a C unless ur one of his favorites. He waists every class rambling about random BS. Don't take his class.
On par with the worst teachers I have ever had. I did everything he asked and still got a C. Then again, he never knew what he wanted to begin with.
taking this class will most likely lower your gpa. dont take it. you learn jack squat and dont even get the grade you deserve. you work you butt off for nothing.
He just talks and tells stories from his days living in Chicago, many of which are about his friends who are drug addicts. Some of the stories are pretty funny. He doesn't explain very well what he wants.
1st day I thought this guy was cool, but his fake accent & phony stories about how "hardcore" he is got really old & annoying. He's "mormon" but knows nothing about being one & doesn't know what he believes in. He loves to hear himself talk all period long. I did everything & more, & got a B. If you're a girl or a brown-noser then u might get an A.
Easily the worst teacher I have had in a long time. I don't think I have learned anything in the class other than how to write a copious amount of papers on nothing. He is super vague on what he expects and his corrections to your papers are illegible. Take this class from anybody else is my recommendation.
Ron knows what he is talking about, not that the rest of us do. he tries hard to involve the class but rarely is able to. He requires that you write 20 one page summeries along with a 10 page reasearch paper all due at the end of the semester. no grades until. Save yourself a weeks worth of sleep and take this from someone else.
boring class but if you do his 20 one page summaries and the research paper and are some what involved in his class there is your A
I've only been in this class three weeks, so I might change my opinion of him later in the semester. So far, he's been a pretty good teacher, if extremely vague about what he wants in regards to assignments, and he sometimes contradicts himself later on when you ask questions. He knows his stuff, and the discussions are very intriguing.Good class.
Not a bad teacher, but really likes to hear himself talk. All stories about his life, with still an interest in students, but really just likes talking about his life. He gets sidetracked very easily (ADHD) and rarely continues relevant conversations to current conversational topic.
This guy is terrible. He obviously doesn't care much about his job. He blabs on and on nothing. Makes you write a paper that is one page single spaced, due each class period that is usually just a bunch of BS. He's pretty insulting. Announced a kid's grade in class. I would NOT take the Ethics and Values class from him.
Not helpful at all.Likes to tell stories to eat up class time instead of answering questions or clarifying assignments.
His class= writing one page single spaced summaries and one research paper. Midterm= turning in the summaries and your roug draft research paper. Final= all of your summaries and your paper. Very relaxed teaching style. You come to class, talk about the philosopher for the weeek and turn in your summaries.
Ron is a great professor and he knows his stuff. His class is not hard if all assignments are turned in. He assigns a weekly one-page single-space summary of the philosopher for that week. A 10-page research paper is due at the end of the semester. Great guy and talks about his life to give examples of the topic. Gives students the change to speak
Great teacher! I took ethics and values from a different teacher and hated it. He made it more interesting and enjoyable. You will write a summary every week and an essay for your final at the end of the semester.
Do not take this professor! His expectations aren't clear, he doesn't plan his lesson (he makes stupid quiz questions up off the top of his head)
Rob is a Great teacher! No text book, he provides all the material that you need. There is a one page summary at the end of every week, but it is SUPER easy to do. He does get off topic very easy. But no tests, no final, Just summaries. GREAT CLASS. Take from him.
You dont use a text book. All the reading is online. You write an essay over the reading every week. Super easy. He lets you revise them at the end of the semester. Great class! He lets you make up missed assignments and extra credit is available as well. Enjoyed this class even when he gets off topic.
The class is fairly easy, but the professor is awful. There are readings and one-page, single-spaced papers due every week. The professor spends most of class talking about himself and criticizing students' comments. He had only graded one assignment by finals week. Attendance is mandatory. I leared from the readings, but not from the professor.
I took his class for two weeks and had to drop it because it was useless. Ron Taught us incorrectly how to use APA format one student called him out on it and he said, that is just how I want to do it in this class. Nearly every one in the class was docked 20% or more on the 1st paper because he didn't like our titles. don't take from this guy.
No quizzes or tests or even a book. Single spaced paper due each week until you've done 9 of them and then you do a final summary paper and that is your final. I didn't agree with his views and he likes to twist your words to fit his view, but it is a super easy class if you're just doing it for your generals!
Loved this class. Very insightful. There are weekly reading assignments and essays. This professor's approach to writing and critical thinking is refreshing. I highly recommend taking this class for anybody with the slightest interest in history, litrrature, debate and psychology. :)
basically he gives you a reading assignment and you have to write a paper about it. every week. it was a good class to take. the work is not hard, there is just a lot of it. he is ok with late work, just make sure you get your papers in eventually. attendance is part of your grade.
we had 7 single spaced one page papers we had to write. and then a cover letter. you have to be turning in papers to get critiqued in front of class. attendance counts towards grade so don't miss class. if you do the minimum work and show up to class you will pass.
He failed to give specific deadlines or clear expectations & made offensive comments to the few Muslim students in class so they all stopped attending. When asked for specific feedback on a writing project, he gave so many ideas it was impossible to know what might improve the grade as we re-worked our papers. Absences count against final grade.
This was the most unproductive class ever. The majority of his lectures are based on him talking about himself and experiences that are completely irrelevant to the readings. You write a one-page paper every week about a philosophy selection and he hardly gives feedback. The 1st time you see your updated grade is when it's permanently posted.
Ronald Bohannon has no clear way of explaining what he wants his students to do. He doesn't know how he wants it done, but wants it down specifically in his own way. There is no way of knowing what he wants or how to do it correctly. He wants APA formatting, but in all reality, it is nothing like APA formatting. Waste of time class.
This was seriously the most confusing class ever. He's a nice guy, but his assignments really have not direction to them. He is constantly going off on tangents in class and it makes it hard to follow. You may think you did an assignment great but it'll come back saying you messed up the format. That's the worst part.
Only went to this class for participation points which helps your grade. Talked about the same material for a week which made class boring. Papers are APA, but it should be called "Bohanon format. There were times where he changed requirements which got annoying. Nice guy, but he grades you like you're a philosophy major. If you have him, good luck
Prof Bohannon was the most confusing professor I've taken from. I never knew what he expected from each paper we wrote... He would tell us to write one thing, and then he would change his mind about it the next class. Not my favorite class!
He doesn't seem well prepared for class. No tests, just 500 word essays mostly. Tough grader and doesn't give very good feedback. Attendance is a huge part of your grade.
I absolutely LOVE professor Bohannon as a person. As a professor, no. If you don't go to class, you will fail. He was never prepared for class and doesn't know what he wants from you. He just knows what he doesn't want when he sees it. I wrote papers that he RAVED about in front of the class saying they were great and got C's.
Instructor Bohannon was seriously an amazing teacher. I really enjoyed his class. I found that as long as I came to every class my confidence as a writer improved significantly. Sometimes it was a little unclear as to how he wanted things done but as long as you aren't afraid to spend some time revising and polishing you should be fine. Good luck!!
So Instructor Bohannon is a gamesmaster. He is hard to understand at first and goes off on hilarious tangents all the time, such as his "theory of Innovation". but I found it engaging and interesting. Super flexible, make sure you talk to the guy, and show up to class and post all papers with MLA formatting and you will pass the class.
He's a really good person, he had a lot of life experience, that he shared in class and gave us key points in our papers when we did them. Overall, he's a really nice guy but a hard grader.
Professor Bohannon is a great person, but not a great professor. He is not clear in what his expectations are, and when he decides something, he changes his mind a few classes later. You need to be ready to write a lot of papers and to not miss class, ever.
He is a very nice guy and has good intentions, but he is the worst instructor I've ever had. He will assign different philosophical writings every week, and he will have you write a 1 PAGE summary annotation. Some of the papers are ridiculously long for a week, and he goes off on crazy rants in class. Attendance is part of grade, but it wasted time
He is the worst teacher I've had so far. He was absolutely NOT understanding when I was quarantined and made me write extra papers to make up my attendance. If you don't attend you will not pass. He is very disrespectful to students and makes you participate. I've never had a teacher make me feel so stupid.
I wouldn't advise taking a class with Professor Bohannon unless you're really passionate about philosophy. He provides the material which is nice, but every week you write a paper about the material he provides. He doesn't have a good rubric and seems to grade only based on his own opinion. Would not recommend.
I took this class only because I had to. This professor really ruined philosophy for me. Required hours of reading every week, a paper every single week, and it's very very difficult to get full credit on any paper. You can resubmit them to get a better grade, but don't expect to get one until the fifth retry.
Professor Bohannon is a nice guy but not a good professor. The lectures have nothing to do with the class content and I didn't learn anything. He requires attendance but going to class is almost worthless. There are lots of papers during the semester but the grading rubric is very vague and he says he gives feedback but really doesn't.
Professor Bohannon isn't a teacher. He takes graded attendance for a class in which he rarely ever discusses subject matter; most of his lectures consist of personal life stories that are not pertinent to his assignments (of which he grades on bias). While he does allow resubmission with no real due date, do not go into this course expecting an A.
He's a difficult professor but he really helped me understand philosophy. He does tell a lot of seemingly off topic stories but he does so with a purpose. This class is so hard because he wants you to actually learn how to think. He will help you love to learn and gain knowledge by helping you redo your papers as many times as you want.
Professor Bohannon is nothing short of a really good man and a professor you feel a deeper connection with. His class was tough as it was hard to get good grades on his weekly papers, but if you take his feedback and work on your papers more than once you will pass. Make sure you attend class and participate in discussion.
I am in week two of taking a class with professor Bohannon. Trying to do the homework on Canvas is a nightmare. There is no clear description of what needs to be done with an assignment and he has too many unorganized links in the assignment description. He requires a paper every week SINGLE SPACED 1 PAGE. I do not recommend taking him stay away
I'm currently in his class. He doesn't teach, he just tells random stories that don't have anything to do with the material and tells uncomfortable jokes. There is a paper due each week, the rubric is unclear and he is the harshest grader ever.He will not tell you why he gave a bad grade just tell you to redo without explanation
I strongly dislike the way he teaches. He requires an essay every week and grades them harshly, according to him no one has ever gotten a perfect score. In class, he often talks about topics that are not relevant as well as make uncomfortable jokes.
He doesn't actually teach. it feels like a class to stroke his ego and make him feel like some kind of philosophical giant among us. he grades extremely harshly and makes attendance mandatory. I would NEVER take another class from this man.
nice guy and kind of funny but he is really incompetent as a teacher. The first half of the semester you write evaulations on philosophy papers with no idea what he wants. The next half is spent fixing them, except it's the chase for the impossible as you create a title, but he changes his opinion everytime. Wildly inconsistent, mind blowingly bad
Stay away from this man. He seems to be most focused on TRYING to share his opinion as factual and belittling others. He doesn't have due dates for papers & allows infinite resubmissions. He told my class that he won't post final grades until canvas is closed. Nothing online, in class, or in private conversations out of class is remotely clear.
I took Bohannon for English my first year of college at UVSC and the class was terrible. Every paper I turned in was graded as like a C+. I would rework the paper and he'd bump it to like a B- or B. I took my papers to the department head and complained about him with other students and was told I had written A papers. He's an awful teacher! Avoid!
Professor Bohannon has a unique teaching style that may not suit all students. While the class is challenging with weekly papers, using tools like unstuck AI alongside the course materials can help manage the workload. The feedback can be vague, but the professor is willing to work with students.
