Weird man. If you attend class you'll pass. Textbook is a ripoff written by him. It's basically a reader that costs 70 bux!
it's a HARD class, but he's a GOOD teacher! as long as you pay attention in class and the review when he goes over it. ASK QUESTIONS! he'll work out the project for ou even and anwser the questions. he'll spend lots of time during his office hours helping
teacher uses fair grading method. the projects are difficult at times, but when visiting his office hours, he makes it so much clearer (does the work for you =P )
he is a great teacher... really willing to help students out... just ask him. he lets u have one page of notes on test. i got a A in the class.. didn't try really hard.. but u do need to know the material
The best teacher ever! I took the class this summer and got an A! He is very willing to help, unlike most teachers. Spends hours at his office trying to help his students.Great, Great, Teacher!
great teacher
Dr. Davis is so smart that he thinks you should know the course content as well as he. This is a VERY difficult class and the projects are ridiculous. I would NEVER take a class from him again. He is not very helpful.
If you want an A and don't really want to learn anything take Davis. He's a nice guy, but he's lazy. I took him once a week in a night class and it took him 2 weeks to get the exams graded and posted on the web. It takes him a while to e-mail you back.
Very nice guy. I had no idea what the hell he was talking about half the time. His tests were average difficulty. The projects were ridiculously confusing. Thank god he was around to help. Easy 'B'
Makes material really easy but, written instructions to projects are VERY confusing. Luckily, he is more than willing to help. Exams are easy if you study. During exam, if you need help, he is more than willing to give you a BIG hint. Moderately easy A.
This class is pretty hard. 3 projects, 2 exams, and a final. The final is impossible. If you want a good grade, go to his office hours. He will pretty much do your project if you keep going to his office hours. Some extra credit. He cruve the exams
Project1-Really easy. Exam1-easy. Project2-Waste of time, not very hard. Project3-ridiculously hard, confusing, bull**** waste of time. Final exam-HARD. Go to his office hours and he'll do it for you. Big hints given on exams. Extra credit offered.
Two words: Easy A.. just go to his office hour everyday if you can.. he will basically do the whole project for u.. and there's no need to buy the book... just take notes during lecture.. again: Easy A.
Prof. Davis is a nice person, willing to help. However, his projects will be confusing. Very difficul projects. But his willing to help.
Midterms are easy and final is OK,but 3 computer projects are like HELL!!(I am an A+ student!)Impossible to get to his office- loooong lines of students.Projects are same each semester,so ask your friends for the projects.Got A,but got grey hair too.
This professor has Narcolepsy. So, if you go to his office hours for his ridiculous projects HE'LL FALL ASLEEP WHEN HE'S TALKING!!! HE'LL ALSO FALL ASLEEP WHEN YOU'RE TALKING!!! Good luck if you have him. Wouldn't recommend him for any class.

Dr. Davis is a very helpful person but this QBA class is hard! Easy B if you are smart in Math but most people have hard time understanding the class. He offers extra credit so make sure to do them all!
He burns like 400 calories teaching each class period. He need to bring a towel, or some armpit napkins. Cool, funny guy. Has a formula for everything. Find good people to learn from or cheat from. This class should be a team effort among the student
HARD CLASS! You will grow some white hair in this class. Hard projects and hard Final! Don't expect to do the projects on your own...it's so confusing! Easy B if you are good at math...easy F if you don't try hard!
The material is hard general but he curves really big. The test is out of 150 and if you get 70-80 you get a B. That's half, so that's a big curve!! If you go to his office hour and bring him FOOD, he'll do the whole project for you.
Its a bell curve people, you all compete agaisnt each other for grades. He doesn't set it, you guys set it, if you all got high 100's on test, no matter what, a decent amount will fail automatically. YOu can all get 130-150on each test, 130s will fail.

Very hard class. Professor Davis is very helpful and offers a lot of extra credit to the students. Understanding and curves the grades to pass the students. Hard to find a teacher like Davis. Take him!!!
Be sure to get help on the projects, either from him or the tutorial center. You might worry a lot about failing, but if you make an effort and just try learning the material, I guarantee you'll pass the course. He's very understanding and a good prof.
One of the Best Prof. I have ever met. He is very helpful, just ask for help he will go out of his way to help you. Easy A.
He is a chubby teacher who thinks more about what's for his next meal than what he is teaching. He is nice though but don't even bother going to class he will just make you wish you were at the gym.
Didnt learn much from his class. Cheated the whole way. But you really have to work hard if you want to pass without cheating even though he curved cuz 190 the subject itself is hard and he is suppose to be the easiest teacher.
Davis is a very nice professor. His book is hard and lecture is impossible to understand. Just go to his office and he would help you. Want a good grade? You better study your butt off! Don't want to learn anything? Cheat your butt off!!!
The professor is so funny, and he is a nice guy. He can fall asleep when you ask questions. Try to visit him in his office hour and see the result. Anyway, I love the professor.
Very nice person. The projects are a killer but there is more than enough extra credit and get together in groups to do the them. Test are hard but curve is nice. Very helpful. go to his office hours, funny too.....
He doesn't give enough time for midterms. Most students fail their midterms due to lack of time. There's so much pressure. The tests are normally taken at beginning of class. Class does continues after midterm.
He is the worst teacher ever. Those who say its an easy class cheated, plain and simple. He can't teach for s***.Midterms are very hard and projects are even harder. So, good luck finding someone to cheat off of.Take someone who knows how to teach.
cool teahcer.. he really knows his stuff.. and gives students a chance to do really well!
cant teach!not very helpful either, never goes over the midterms with u to c what u did wrong so u could work on it for the compre final.doesnt explain/go over projects thoroughly for students to understand.most students in cheat their way thru if they find an atleast B student to help out. gl
It doesn't matter to me if he can't teach. He's the easiest BUS 190 professor. There are 3 exams, four math/diagram questions. And 3 projects, which are graded by student aides on complete answers not correct answers so don't stress too much on it. Don't take another BUS 190 professor but him!!!
OK, QBA is a hard subject in general, Davis is the easiest. He's the easiest teacher bc there's alot of e.c work, he's flexible, and VERY helpful if you see him during office hours! Trust me, if i could get an A in this class, anyone can!! you just have to be motivated to work for the grade!
This guy is bad because no one understands or cares about QBA. Make friends that can cheat off you or vice versa. Or **** the graders. There was a list of people that they gave perfect scores to on the projects to. If you're not a dumb person, you'll pass because he grades on a curve.
EVERYONE CHEATS IN THIS CLASS. IT REALLY SUCKS IF YOU ARE NOT A CHEATER - LIKE ME. I DONT EVEN THINK HE CARES. EVERYONE HAS THE EXAM ANSWERS ON THIER "NOTES" PAGE.
People that cry about the cheaters need to remember that the class isn't really hard if you pay attention. If you need to cheat in this class, you probably shouldn't be going to SJSU in the first place. He goes over how to construct the projects in class, so just pay attention. Exams allow notes.
Damm you all cheaters for messin up the curve for people like us that studied our ass off. Projects arent bad, but his exams sucks big time. aint nothing like the ones in the reader, which were harder!!!
hahahaha...too bad suckers. most people cheated like crazy in his class. Just work in group for the project and know as many people as you can so you will be ok during the exams. Curve helps a lot. But never understand his lecture or the book.
190 is a tough class. davis maybe sweet but he cant teach, esp in front of class. hes really helpful one on one so go see him in his office hours. he'll help you a lot, even give you answers. make friends though!!! so you guys can work on projects together and maybe even cheat on exams together.
take good notes when he's discussing the projects, he pretty much shows you what to do step by step, but if you miss something, its difficult. he will take time to help you, but everyone else will be looking for help too, so start early.
He will teach you about Slack, in class and by his work. He likes to go around the bush too much and then after wasting class time and braincells, he tells you "Oh, this had nothing to do with it." No wonder you were having a hard time digesting it! Avoid him if you can... I couldn't.
Take it during the summer, he drops a project that he normally gives during the school year. Do at least one extra credit assignment and you'll get bumped up a grade in the end.
Form groups and take w/friends you'll do fine. become one of his student graders and give yourself and friends good grades. buy course reader and he'll definitly add you. easiest bus190 prof. passes w/ a B.
The class is tough but he is nice. He may be willing to boost your grade if you talk to him. I was certain that I would fail the class but I ended up with a B+ in the class
Mideum work load. Class is a little boring. Teacher is very helpful. Do your homework then you will be fine for your test.
Talks to the white board. Like being stuck in a bad Charley Brown cartoon. If you don't have a laptop to get the answers when he flies through them in class you are doomed. Never take a course from someone who writes their own book. Do the projects, bring your lap top he will do them in class.
Nice guy but really boooooooring. Had to drink almost 2 cans of red bull just to stay up in his class. The class is not that bad, you will need to study a lot for your papers.Got an A but had to put in a lot of effort
Davis writes too small on the board. He mumbles a lot. He tries to use his intelect when you ask him a question. Nice guy overall and he means well. You have to wrok semi hard to get a good grade. Start the projects early and utilize webct for help on things.
Good teacher though the class is boring. If you want to do well w/o cheating or anything, pay attention in class and bring a laptop. He'll do most of the work for you during class. Group up with friends and you'll be able to do the projects easily. Use webct to your advantage.
intelligent, practical; poor class teaching skills: loud class, late feedback on exams. Book, while not an easy read, is not impossible. U required to follow a stepbystep methods to pass exams. Always be on the task of creating cheat sheet 4 your next exam. Projects: complicated, time-consuming: attend class on proj-days and finish 'em ASAP.
He is a very nice teacher, one of the nicest and he will go out of his way to help students. Lots of extra credit available in class. Bring your laptop and read discussion boards on WebCT when doing projects. His reader helps a lot as well. He can get confusing but just take notes. Overall, good teacher for a very hard and complicated class.
this class is easy IF you get "help" from other students. if you tackle this class alone, youll be completely clueless by the end. overall nice professor. also helpful but hard to understand lectures. recommend taking him with friends. no hw, 2 tests, 4 projects, and the final. also ec/curve
Need to prepare for exams. Does not give the same problems on exams as in homework. Project 2 is very difficult. Try to work in teams. Lectures can be unclear, but after the 3rd time you get it.

No care or consideration for any students. Gives no feedback, never returns anything on time (if at all), and is oblivious to the fact that people don't udnerstand what he's talking about. I have no idea why others have said he goes out of his way to help; He hinders your performance every opportunity he gets. Terrible teacher/ plain an simple.
His projects are hard and very time consuming. Just take good notes on his lectures. THese notes will help u on ur test. Group work is recommended on the projects.
BORING BORING BORING. Easy class though. Go during his office hours and bring your project, or stay after class, he will do it for you. I got an A in the class and still do not know a thing. Nice guy. Very understanding, and knowledgeable on the material, just doesn't know how to teach it.
worst teacher in the history of education.
Worst teacher ever. NEVER returns homework. Grades still are not posted. Tip the TA's if you want a good grade. Idiot. He needs to retire already.
This teacher doesn't give a damn about students. Where are my grades? come on ron
It's not easy. I have to put on a certain time to study. He gave me a bad surprise to everybody for announcing the midterm exam just two day before the day of the exam which was terrible. In addition, projects and final are hard too. However, the only thing was he was a nice man and could help students. I barely passed with a C-.
this teacher is a joke. i dont know how he is still employeed. get help from other students if you want to pass. grades are still not posted for fall. doesnt respond to email, questions, anything. shows up over an hour late during his designated office hours. dont take him
worst teacher ever. you can bs your way to an A though.
Worst teacher I have had at SJSU. Extremely unclear, horrible at lecture and making the materal make sense. Projects are very hard. Went to his office once for help and he fell asleep in the middle of answering my question. In a class of 40, about 2 people understood what he was trying to teach. A waste of time and money. Grades very easily
He is not a bad teacher, but he has his own way of teaching the class. He can be helpful when you ask. Also if you need help on project and so on, he'll help you either via email or in person. It's easier to take it during the intermission.
I think he is good. yeah little unorganize . you have to waite for your grade. projects are hard but he helps u, if u have any diffculty. his exam is little hard but time consuming. you have to be really qick. time flys during exam time. so i will say just practice. final is very hard.Overall if u keep up with him i gurantee you can get easy B.
Worst instructor I have ever had. Easy class to pass but don't expect to learn anything from him. His book is no help at all. Assigns hard and time consuming project as if u r taking only his class. Curves exams which is nice since u learn nothing in class. Wouldn't recommend in any case.
Not the most enthusiastic teacher on the planet but knows what he's talking about. You MUST show up to class everyday and attempt the homework samples in full before you are ready for midterms. Projects are murder unless you start early and ask him for clearing things up. Grading is slightly skewed - he is not that sharp of a teacher with those.
He is the WORST Teacher at SJSU. Not cler in lecture, makes students feel stupid if they dont understand whats going. Projects are super hard and test are even harder. Dont take him.
He was always late to class. You will not learn much from his teaching style or book. Projects are graded by his TA's so getting high scores is easy as long as you complete the required elements of the project. Overall, I would take another professor if you want to learn about quantitative analysis or take Davis if you want a easy passing grade.
Just as he was always late to class, our final grades are yet to be posted online. The deadline was May 30. Hmm....
He was always late to class (10-15 minutes), his tests are super hard, and his lectures are boring. The projects are graded by his TA so you'll get full credit on that if you do everything. Where are the Spring 2006 grades???
Everything other peolpe say is true. You don't have to buy the book though. There is an online version of it which is just as good. I managed to get an A with no book, but most were not so lucky. Have to do some work for an A. At least know people to share projects with!!!! He sweats so much, it scared me...
One of the hardest classes at SJSU. The tests and projects are so hard. Be prepared to spend at least 9 hours total in his office seeking help throughout the semester. He is friendly though, but I would recommend another teacher if you don't want to struggle for a B.
Extremely easy class if you pay attention and put some effort into it. This is one of my fav. professors, he is very nice and helpful ! All projects and 2 midterms are so0 easy, except the final was kind of tough. Other than that, easy class. Would recommend this teacher.
Ron Davis is the great professor at SJSU. His project are hard, but he grade them pretty easy so don’t worry. I would recommend this professor for Bus190.
NOT RECOMMENDED. u must study hard for this class. look thru comments on your projects coz they're corrected by TA's; you may be able to get more pts if u talk to him. his exams are very difficult. coz i didn't do well on his cummulative final i got a B in the class despite A's (~90-98%) on projects & exams.
Not bad if u study and go to class. Projects take a lot of time and final is hard. U can do well on projects by watching demos and there is a lot of extra credit. I find math courses to be hard and got a better grade than I expected. Instructor helpful but doesn't reply to e-mail very fast. Takes a long time to get your grade, though.
This is one of the most complicated classes i have ever taken but i might get a B. the way i did that was to stay proactive. Projects take 2 days. Every class is essential, i missed one and that part of the test is the only part i missed. In order to get a good grade spend alot of time studying, in the office, and self-teaching yourself.
One of the worst teachers that I have taken at SJSU. Davis teaches in a way that makes the subject confusing, leaving the students to fend for themselves. Davis is not organized either. Luckily, the professor had previous midterms/finals with answers so that the students can go over and that was the only way I could understand the subject.
One of the hardest courses I've taken. The way the instructor teaches is hard to comprehend. The book doesn't help much because he wrote it. Be ready to study hard and teach yourself.
Dr. Davis was not an easy teacher, I got a B and spent hours weekly with a group at library. Lectures are boring, projects are difficult. However, he is there for the students, allows notes for tests, and provides good quidence on projects. From what I heard prior to this course, all in all Dr. Davis was a good choice.
Difficult class and instruction is not very clear. Hard to stay awake during finals. Last 3 projects are extremely hard. Ron Davis will help you during office hours and is a fair grader. Grades on a curve but there is no method to his madness. I would recommend his class but make sure you network with your classmates.
So what do you expect? 190 is hard material. The way Dr. Davis teaches it is step by step. Attend class and pay attention and you'll do fine. Be sure to bring that cup of coffee though. QBA can be quite draining.
Very helpful teacher, he even set up special office hours to help me out. You have to network though! You do have to attend the classes because all of a sudden he'll spring a project on you and it's fatal to get too far behind. Great guy, funny too. Every day I thought I'd fail this class but managed to get a B-.
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had! Here is a short list of what I experienced...showed up late to class EVERY SINGLE DAY, couldn't remember what we had covered in previous lectures, responded to student questions with condescending remarks, promised online office hours prior to final & NEVER SHOWED UP or apologized! NO ACCOUNTABILITY AT ALL!
Terrible teacher, sucks at explaining the concepts makes the concepts more confusing than they should be. Four projects which require a lot of work and watching his videos outside of class another 2 hours of boring lecture each. He does offer a lot of extra credit and grades fair and on a curve.
He was late to class every single day. He is one of those teachers that tries to teach you a simple concept in the most complicated way he can think of. Reads directly from text in most boring and monotone voice ever. Might as well teach yourself. He is uselss. Lots of extra credit, though.
This professor can be quite demanding and difficult to understand. He teaches the course as if you already knew all there is to know about QBA. It was by far the toughest course I have taken at SJSU and I am glad it is over!!! Be prepared for gems such as "The sky is blue, but that has nothing to do with what we'll be covering tonight." ; )
Some teachers want to teach, this guy is not one of them. Deadlines and due dates are constantly changing, and written nowhere. My projects had grading errors that he could not explain and didn't correct. Don't go to his office hour, he'll fall asleep on you! Worst teacher ever!
Most every one that took his class still has not received a final grade almost a month later! His excuse is that he had to take over another class! His T.A.s grade everything so how much work has he really done? If you want to do well in this class, organize a study group and use the tutoring center if you want to learn something. It helps a lot.
BUS190 is tough with any professor but I think Davis gets an unfair bad rap. Yes, subject is confusing and boring but he is VERY helpfull during his office hours. He's very understanding and helpfull but be ready to get into studygroups, it's the only way to get an A.
Dr. Davis is a nice professor; he accepts late works any time, gives extra credit, and curve the grade. He is approachable, go to his office for any questions; he will take his times to explain. This is a tough class, but you can do well if you do homework and practice exam on the web site. Lots of resources from him, you can pass this class.
Very knowledgeable but thinks students already know everything. He'll help you during office hours but may fall sleep on you. easy grader. lets turn in late projects. No presentation or HW. prepares for midterms. 2 or 3 easy projects. Definitely fall sleep in his class. No doubt that he is knowledgeable.
Do not take 191 with this guy. I was very interested in the topic but learned nothing. He never graded any papers until after the course completed. He also changed the grading guidelines from the syllabus leaving students unaware of how they would be graded. He is very unclear and his teaching style is impossible to follow.
This guy is so useless, but don't get me wrong, he's also the best for 190 at SJSU. How scary is that? Read the book, listen to the lectures, and go to the Math Department tutors. Alot of work, but not alot of assignments. Take him if you have to take 190. Just be sure to bring a laptop and zone out often. If you try, you can pass.
I am going into the final with an A+ and this is in no way a reflection of his teaching. He was always late to class, never a good lecturer, horribly boring. He wrote his own textbook which is nearly impossible to understand unless you reread everything. I'm in my senior year and this is the worst teacher I've had in college. Avoid if possible.
The material in this class is based on Finite Math and Stats. If you understood/did well in those courses, then you are fine here. He explains everything clearly but some people chose to nod off instead. Yes the subject can be dry but it's useful. This is upper div college work, it isn't supposed to be entertainment. Some effort required!
projects are confusing, midterms are easy, final is a bit hard. got As on midterms and projects, but just C for final, however, overall grade is still an A. Recommend...
Very nice guy. Topics are understandable and he goes through many examples to help you absorb the material. I took this class before with a different teacher and he is tens times better. He gives many extra credit opportunities. Overall great class for the subject.
He is a really nice guy! BUT, he does not have a clear outline of the course and because this is a tough subject he really should make everything clear. He doesn't teach from the textbook he gives out handouts that you have to learn from. He does help during office hours, but one time he forgot & the other time he fell asleep while he was talking.
I definitely would reccommend this class. the midterms are are not so hard and there are lots of extra credit opportunities. There are two noncumulative midterm and a noncumulative final. 3 projects that seems harder than it really is. and 1 extra credit project. The grading is fair and there will be a huge curve at the end. no textbook to buy.
He's nice and knows the material really well, BUT he's not very good @ teachin the class, @ least 2 me and some other students that I talk 2. He curve all the projects and exams. If u ask him for help outside of class the material will become clearer r so I heard. Overall it felt like an independent learnin class to me. There r 3 projects for hw.
Professor Davis is actually a good guy. But he's teaching skills are somewhat questionable. He doesnt seem to have a proper guideline. Sometimes feels like he's mumbling. He can be helpful on the projects but they are difficult to begin with. try to work on teams.. may make it easier to go thru the class. technically on your own for this class.
The material is hard anyway. Yes he's very boring. 3 projects and 1 extra project. hard to begin, make friends, get help, and you'll be fine. 2 MIT was easy, final is hard. But hey he's easy grader. Easy B-try a bit harder you will get A no problem!!
it's hard material, 3 projects, lots of extra credit option. he's very helpful if u don't understand anything. I have the course material for sale and the DVD if ur interested. he wrote the book himself so either get it from him full price or from me at discount.. DVD is useful when doing projects. [email protected]
It's hard class but not too bad. He wrote his own book which easier to understand than listen to him. 2 midterm, final, and 3 project+1 extra credit project. All projects base on Excel. Lots of extra credit. Cheat sheet allows. Don't miss his lecture, it'll become really helpful for studying. Don't take him if you're not ready for challenging!
The material is difficult and the exams are long and tedious. There are three excel projects and some extra credit available. Professor Davis knows his material but he can not teach very well.Look for other professors before you settle on this one.
Bad Bad Bad Professor. He is the worst professor in the world... He doesn;t know what he is teaching... and the 3 projects cost a lot of time and the exams are very hard.... i can't believe anyone will take him...
After 9 semesters at 3 different universities/colleges, professor Davis is the worst professor I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and avoid this class. Very unclear. Very unhelpful. Very unorganized.
I'm very excited and eager to learn material in 191. But his way of organizing class is very bad! But hey he curves everything, so you still end up with good grade! 5 excel projects+1 extra credit project. 2MIT+final. Projects are hard if you don't know excel well. Yes his book is much easier to understand than his lecture.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Never in my life have I had such a horrible teacher. I took 191 during my last semester before I graduated and I regret every minute of it. If you're a Harvard grad student, taking 1 class, and want a 4 hour midterm and 5 hour final he won't let you finish, then you might like him.
THIS PROFESSOR NEEDS TO RETIRE! There isn't even a survivors guide if you must take him. Even if you take great notes, his course reader, lectures, and grading requirements do not match so you will never make an A without the curve. Both midterm and final require more than the time allotted. In essence students are setup to fail.
Very boring! Most students could only stand his class for 15 minutes before they walked out! If you feel like you're going to fail, don't worry, because everyone feels they're going to fail, and he grades on a curve! Much of the work you do is self-taught. Don't put off the projects till the day before!
Great teacher! Really cares about the subject and is very helpful. No late penalties on the on the three projects. Grades tests on a curve. Only complaint is the man uses many words to illustrate a short point.
This teacher is extremely.. i repeat extremely USELESS!! he is unclear, always comes late to class, and does not come to his office hours! his videos are very VERY painful: long and SO BORING! if you have insomnia, this is the perfect teacher for you. highly NOT recommended.
This professor is COMPLETELY USELESS. Comes late to class. NEVER responds to his e-mails, and blames students for not asking questions! We do, check your damn email! Unclear on what he's looking for. FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!
Wow...this teacher is horrible. He writes like a million different things on the board and does not stop to go over what he says. Avoid at all costs, I read the material, studied a good amount and what was on the test was nothing like what was taught. All the people around me did not get what he taught, should have dropped. Avoid like the plague.
Always come late, writes so much on the board that it becomes unreadable and you dont know whats what. His reader is so confusing, so many people in my class were lost. Tests are nothing like what is taught. First F I have ever received. :( AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Self learning experience. If you have a decent stats and finite math background you should do very well. Other than that, I found his lectures and textbook very hard to understand. Littered with mathematical terminology and jargon. However, there's a "huge" curve in the class which helps alot. Find someone to study with and you should be fine.
If you're considering adding Ron Davis' Class... DON'T! Never had such a difficult teacher to understand. Going to class was PAINFUL! He wrote his own textbook, with typos (in math equations!) which confuses students AND TUTORS. This professor cannot communicate effectively, and is NOT approachable. Take my word, AVOID AT ALL COST!
Boring and very difficult to follow!
This class is kind of a bore. This is a very difficult subject taught from any teacher. The tests can be extremely hard and time constraining. There are 4 major excel projects that are interesting but take some work to fully flesh out. He means well and knows what he's talking about but if you want less work and easier tests go with someone else.
Wow. Prepare to have to go over the material at home and reteach it to yourself. He wouldn't be so bad if he spent more time going over the material instead of letting us know what every LP was used for in the 50's. Most difficult class I've ever had with him. Take anyone else but him. Only about 30% of the original class passed.
This class is very difficult! He wants you to read the chapter before class but I didn't do this. There are 2 midterms and 1 final. There are 3 projects and one extra credit project. There is also an extra credit assignment too. He grades on a curve. I went attended all his classes. I think attending helped. The class is boring and is very confusin
Got a C in the class, do all the extra credit, study past exams are key, and YouTube examples if u need help. Davis is not bad, he gives alot of partial credit.
Class is always Boring, Read the text Book. One of the best classes offered at SJSU. Ron Davis has great amount of knowledge yet has hard time teaching students. I personally learned lot in this class. JUST READ THE TEXT & STUDY!!!!
Honestly, despite dry lectures, this is a pretty easy class. The projects can be difficult, but do them in advance and seek help from classmates/office hours. Exams are based on previous ones and problems discussed in class. Allows cheat sheets and late project turn-ins. Pretty easy A-B just sitting on top of a curve on average business students.
Professor Davis is actually a really good teacher, he makes you think about the topic he is teaching. It gets frustrating when he expects you to know the answers to questions when he hasn't even taught the subject, however when he lectures, he is very thorough. The book is only semi-used.
He is very knowledgeable in his subject but has a hard time explaining the coursework to the class. He is also very difficult to listen to since he is very monotoned. The class is not that hard if you put some effort into it.
Rons a really cool teacher and a super nice guy. His lectures are hard to follow but you can learn from the book. If you are really stuck you can see him on his office hours and he will walk you through everything. He does come late to class on a regular basis but who cares.
He is a good teacher although very technical on his lectures. If you go to his office hours he is willing to explain the study guide. I was able to get a B by just going to his office and ask lots of questions. Great guy.
Nice and very smart guy but cannot TEACH or EXPLAIN things clearly. He speaks to everyone as if we already know what he is talking about. The subject matter can be very confusing, and he often doesn't explain the process, he just assumes we understand HIS shortcuts. Frustrating and not recommended.
Wouldn't wish the pain of this class to anyone. Prof. speaks as if we took the course already and leaves everyone dazed at the end of lecture. The Excel projects are long and tedious so don't wait last minute. The midterms and final are 'ok' if you make a study guide. Don't recommend, take any1 else if possible.
Ron Davis was my best professor at San Jose State. I excelled in the mathematics course when others who couldn't handle college level statistics blamed the professor for their laziness and lack of applying themselves. Highly recommend Ron Davis for future use.
This was a very difficult class! The course conists of 3 exams & 3 projects each one harder than the next. The professor usually lectures with terminology you probably wont understand. I felt lost for the majority of the lectures, and it's only when I did the practice questions from the book I learned anything... Luckily he gave a generous curve.
Everything said about him is true. My fourth year in college. Worst teacher, hardest class, most boring material (presentation boring also), and that is coming from a Dean's List/(formerly) 4.0 student and former math major. Frequently late for office hours. The book was written by him and full of mathematical errors. Extremely disappointed.
Anyone who can't follow him is a dunce. His lectures were easy to follow, and he gives you enough practice problems. Hell, he even hosted online sessions where he would go through problems one step at a time. The midterms and final were pretty much given to us through these online sessions. I got an A, and I'm a college drop out.
I never really listen to the professor and actually just go to lab and looked for the tutor when I have exam. we have 2 midterms and 1 final exam. the prof will provide the previous year test's sample which is almost the exact same format as midterm. prof is actually is willing to help. Just watch out for the project because its kinda confusing
DROP HIM! even if it means staying at SJSU 1 more semester! I ended up with A since he curved grades. He is unclear, absolutely a bad teacher, does not answer questions, humiliate you in front of the entire class, many errors in his own published book, incomplete videos/instructions. Extremely confusing assignments. Nothing positive! STAY AWAY!!!
This is NOT an easy class and I definitely urge students to read before coming to class and actually working out the problems in the book. Prof Davis is a nice man but he expects u to be prepared if u are going to go see him during office hrs. He gives lots of extra credit which is great b/c class material can be very confusing. Get a class buddy!
Follow the book. Its really hard to miss class because he teaches from the book. Class Projects should be work with other students or go see his T.A (She/he is very helpful). Allows 1 pg of notes for midterms so I would put example problems or step by step guide. Not gonna lie, I went to his office hours and he fell asleep while I was talking.AVOID!
talks too much. sometimes boring and sometimes funny. don't buy the CD it's on canvas, post past exams. should attend class if you want to see how the problems done. teacher gives review session on canvas before test. lenient on turning things in.
I am taking a 4 hour long evening section of 190. Ron Davis gives very thorough lectures on the material, says what will be on the midterms and final, gives past finals and midterms to study from, and videos on how to do the projects. While QBA can be challenging he makes it easy to learn and understand the material. I would recommend taking him!
Class is easy & Davis is really chill. 2 midterms one final. 4 projects. Double sided sheet of notes for all exams. Video demonstrations for each project. Flexible deadlines. Lectures can be boring and confusing though. Slow grader. Overall though I had expectations of 190 being difficult and its not with Davis. Come on, two pages of notes 4 exams!
