Very good and nice professor, obviously interested in what he is doing, friendly, helpful, points out interesting issues, encourages the discussion, in other words - a great person to take your FYE (First Year Exp.) with. I am glad I walked in a wrong door that day and ended up in his class :). I don't know if across the hall would be as good

I took the FYE class to start my college journey. He just made me very confident about the way the rest of college was going to go. He made a very good first impression for the school. He was personable and helpful.

Very friendly instructor. He does his best to involve everyone and likes to talk about racism and sexism. He's really fun to have a class with if you are into social justice.

Ron is an awesome instructor, a personal favorite. He creates a safe environment so students can express themselves and also encourages his students to participate in discussions. Great personality that keeps the class engaged and lively. Would recommend this professor to anyone who is thinking of taking a sociology class.

I am glad to take such a difficult class as SOC 253 with Ron. I am not native speaker but Ron made material so understandable that I could pass this class very successfully. Lectures are very engaging and interesting. If you show up to class, participate when necessary, and put in a reasonable amount of effort on the essays, getting an A in the class shouldn't be difficult.

There was times when i wanted to get up and leave during this class because it might have been just a little boring. Once i started participating i was super engaged and it seemed like so much fun!!

Easy class. Didn't even do the readings and worked on the essays the night before but still got A's on everything. Participation matters so you should probably go to class often. Class discussions are interesting and engaging.

Laid back class for the most part. He made class discussions really interesting. Learned a lot and had a good time. Mr. Holland is a great teacher.

This is a super easy and interesting class. There are a lot of group discussions, which I didn't really like because it felt like high school activities. Class discussions can get interesting because of touchy topics. Ron is a nice teacher who likes deep thinking. Take the class! It's fun.

Pretty easy class. Got As on all essays, there are quizzes every friday but it's online and theres only like five questions. the answers are in the powerpoint online. Class was mandatory no more than 10 absences. Nice and fun loving professor. Strongly recommend to take his class!

He is nice, helpful, and fair grader. If you do the homework and participate in class, you will most likely get an A. He grades paper little bit harder, but if you ask him to help or use writing lab to get idea of writing good paper, you will get an A.

I would recommend Ron to anyone honestly, he knows how to deal with students very well academically, and it clearly shows that he cares about his students. I took his Eng201 class which everyone told me was hard to pass and ended up with an A on the final paper.

Ron Holland was a great instructor, he was very clear on what he wanted. He was also super understandable if you did not turn in your assignment on time, but I don't recommend making that a habit. There was a lot of group participation which was not that bad. Overall, the class and instructor was an amazing experience.

Ron was a great teacher. Super funny and nice, and was a relatable, down to earth guy. Group activities/discussions were very common. If you pay attention in class, make an effort to do well, and turn everything in on time, then it is an easy class. He is very flexible with people as long as you talk to him.

Very good class. I don't like subject much, but topics we wrote about made me want to engage the work. Expect to participate if you want to earn the A. My English experience couldn't have been better! Cute professor was plus.

Good class and nice teacher. I enjoyed talking about race and politics. Fun because we chose our own research topics. I didn't like having to try and relate it to Allegory of the Cave though. Pretty easy A if you attend and do your best on all of your assignments.

Ron is a very inspirational professor, he loves to ask debatable questions and get everyone involved. I have learned a lot of critical thinking, antithetical analysis and how to make a persuasive argument. Those things are not easily learned or experienced from books. Also he gives extra credits a lot!

Good teacher who doesnt grade too hard. BUT I have literally messaged him over canvas multiple times because he makes directions so unclear. He says a paper is due tuesday, then will say it is due thursday, but on canvas it says tuesday! I am most often thoroughly confused as to what im supposed to do. Cool guy but wish i chose someone else.

This one a very fun class and I learned a lot. Ron was always willing to help and did his best to make a subject like research interesting. He grades fairly and if you put in the time, your grade will reflect it. If you don't put in the time, your grade will also reflect it. All in all, I liked the class, but the survey lesson was way too long.

Great instructor. His lectures are very interactive and entertaining. If you are the kind of person that likes to sit in the back of the class and not participate then this is not the class for you. However, if you like to get involved and have great in depth conversations with your classmates and instructor then take Ron! Class time will fly by.

I had Ron for my first English class here at Bellevue College. I miss having him! He was hands-down the greatest English teacher I've ever had. I'm writing this rating even though it is only halfway through the quarter. I just have to say, he is a good teacher because he cares about his students. One day he came into class and took some time to ask how the class was doing in life and said he cared if there were problems happening in our lives. Also answers all my questions nicely.

Ron is one of my favorite english teachers, hes very caring and gives amazing lectures. Hes available outside of class and answers emails which is awesome. There are many things that are graded so dont miss class if you can. Hes an amazing guy and super caring and funny. I would take another one of his classes!

If you try this class is an easy A. On our first big essay I got 200/200 points. The quizzes are based on his lecture/powerpoints. Quizzes are online even though it is a daily class which is super nice. He takes attendance each day. I currently have 97.35%. He has a no late work policy. He tells lots of stories and tries to make class not boring.

I really enjoyed his class. He is very understanding if you need to miss class. You have to learn what he wants from assignments before you get the hang of it, but after that it's fine. There was a textbook, but I barely used it (he covers 99% of the material in his lectures). We wrote a total of 3 papers throughout the quarter. Highly recommend!

Prof. Holland is very kind and will take extra time to help you. It is pretty easy to get a good grade in his class if you attend and turn in your work on time.

This is my first time taking English online and Mr. Holland makes it very easy to take. There are assignments every week, but they are not due until Saturdays. He is easy to reach on email or in person.

ENGLISH 201: Assignments due Saturdays at midnight and are easy if you come to class/pay attention to instructions. Amount of assignments due varies from 1-3, but the average is 2. I took a hybrid class, so I had to come twice a week. Grading criteria is clear and straight forward. If you want an A, you have to work for it.

Ron is pretty good teacher. His topics are different than the average english teacher. Some of the quizzes he goes over in class before hand and if you take notes it's an easy A. The quizzes are online and he says you can use notes and there is no time limit. He is willing to work with any student to help them boost their grade. (extra credit)

Great guy but the class is work. Weekly discussions which are pretty easy. Big projects every couple weeks related to writing the big research paper. The only issue I had with the class is the writing process of the 8-10 page paper began in the final two weeks. End of the quarter was stressful in writing the paper. He is willing to help in anyway.

He teaches well and will walk through many examples with the class. Tests and quizzes are easy and go off common sense.

The class is pretty straight forward. There are weekly take home tests. They are open notes and book. There are 3 major papers which are graded pretty easily.

The class is easy. Three papers, a few occasional quizzes on canvas (usually straightforward if you take notes), and daily discussions in class. He will meet with you to advise every paper so that you can get an A. Lectures sometimes are very skewed politically, but if you can get past that, the class is somewhat enjoyable and non-stressful. Solid!

Ron is a great teacher and his class was an easy A. He can tend to go off on tangents about his life or related topics to class but they are interesting. The papers are really easy, i did my final one in one day and still got a 196/200. Ron is funny and overall a wonderful person. I would definitely take another class with him.

I took a hybrid English 101 class and it honestly wasn't that bad. He was bad at responding to emails so if you want to get in contact with him your best bet is talking to him after class. Other than that he was a great teacher, he will give opportunities for extra credit and if you follow his directions on essays (3 papers total) you'll be fine.

Very well organized online class. I enjoyed learning the material and would recommend taking his class. His content was interesting and easy to find. HW was doable with my other two classes at BC and I found it easy to keep up with no more than 1 discussion and 1 open note ten ? quiz each week. Final assns were a little harder but bearable.

So far, so good. The class has an easy format to follow. There are some standard writing assignments you have to complete and if you out in an effort youll pass then easily.

I took this class during Covid it was asynchronous. His instructions are pretty vague but he responds to emails in about an hour or two. The assignments took me no longer than an hour and there was only one a week, super easy class.

Professor Holland is just amazing! I am so glad I took his class and I will take his class in the future. He is so understanding and always there to help. I love his class and his personality.

Ron gave me the confidence in writing that I always needed but never have. He boosted my writing skills in all aspects and I always say that this was the best class that I have taken to anyone that asks me. I wish that topics for essays should be a bit more diversified, almost all are about civil rights and it gets repetitive. Ron is also nice.

He's a really nice guy. None of his lectures were mandatory and they were only once a week. He talked about really important societal stuff so if you're tired of doing English and writing dumb stuff, he'll make you write about the important things. His content was a little unclear sometimes but its online so I can't blame him. Would recommend!

Great class! I dont get the issue with the person who said its awful. Must not be getting the grade they said they did and is mad about it. If you read the information for the week and do your assignments, this is an easy A! Theres only about 10 pages to read, and in his syllabus, he states he will post content from the book in his slides.

Very caring and will make an extra effort to help if you attend office hours.

I'm currently enrolled in Professor Holland's ENG201 for the summer. Without a doubt, he's a great teacher and very caring and trying to help you succeed. I like the structure of the class as he shows and teaches you how to build up your essay throughout the quarter instead of all at one time and gives feedback throughout. Overall awesome teacher!

Professor Holland, in my experience, was incredibly caring and an effective teacher. He always answered my e-mails instantly and it always felt like he genuinely cared. His optional lectures for his asynchronous class are good and allow you to learn the material better than if you just read the canvas pages. He was very fair in his grading.

Class structure mostly same,(lecture, readings, video, textbook, quiz, assignment) sometimes only few lectures with quiz, sometimes no quiz etc. Assignments made you do essay part by part before final due date, very helpful

Easy class, prof requires you do weekly notes and post them in a discussion board for others. You get two essays max and is a really easy course if you get the work done. Super caring. Be aware that his curriculum leans towards politics and racial ethnicity primarily towards African Americans. Would take again without the politics.

This is my second time taking Professor Holland. He is genuinely the most caring professor I have had in my time at Bellevue College. He is always willing to answer questions and he is always rooting for the success of his students. He teaches a very modern style and allows a lot of extra credit. He is also very understanding.

Overall a very good professor, was very caring, let me know that if I needed anything I could always send an email to him. Workload was pretty good in my opinion, not too much or excessive amounts of reading. Typical weekly work consisted of short readings, short videos, usually a quiz or discussion (sometimes both). Also 2 essays in the quarter.

While this teacher is a harsh grader, he offers plenty of additional support and extra credit. While this class may be challenging for someone with weaker English writing skills if you attend class and build your essays on the information that he presents in the lectures you should be fine.

Professor Holland is probably the best English teacher or professor that I've ever had. He was very clear with me on every question I asked and explained things clearly and in a helpful manner. His expectations are fairly high but not anything that isn't reachable with hard work and just talking to him. Overall, great person, mentor, and educator.

Lots of emphasis on lecture materials, tests almost every week based off of them. All material for the week was released on the first day of class and frequently needed complete or partial materials two days after. Requires good planning for completion of assignments. Material is engaging and helps you learn the topic, all is available on canvas.

He was a great professor, gave good feedback and graded quickly. Did have to do a lot of writing ofc but overall he didn't lecture too much so class wasn't ever boring

Good class especially if you like music. Two assignments each week to prepare you for two essays and a poetry project. Lectures one day and has a class activity the next. Reasonable grader and flexible with deadlines if you talk to him.

As from my experience, I don't believe he's a tough grader at all. His late work penalty policy seems very reasonable, grades assignments almost instantly, gives some feedback, and even allows for some extra credit assignments. He is always accessible outside of class and will respond quickly through email.

Professor Holland's class has its challenges, but engaging with the content and using resources like unstuck study for study prep can help you succeed. Attend lectures, complete assignments on time, and you'll get a solid grade.

Cool class. 1 minor essay, 1 major essay with 2 drafts that he gives tough but good feedback on (If you address all points out, your 2nd draft is an A). A collage presentation. And a final group presentation on AI vs human arguments. About 1 assignment a week.

This professor is caring and gives students opportunities to earn extra credits. Also, he gives good feedback that makes you improve the essay. However, he is a tough grader, there are quizzes for the class and it is not easy. In general, he is good but if there are any better professors, then I won't take him again.

Prof. Holland is a good teacher. He gives a reasonable amount of work, and he has in-class group time to practice. He can be picky about grading, but he's fair.
