He is a Smart Guy who does not understand why you cant get it, if you get his teaching methods, he is ok, but chances are you will not, so i just am gonna say stay away
NO ACCENT!calculus is a hard class, but he made it make sense. took the summer class and he was very understanding. wanted u to pass, but also wanted at least a little effort. only criticism:when u asked questions, he didnt really answer them-would go on a tangent w/o knowing it. overall good guy and would recommend to anyone who isnt good at math.

Overall it was a pretty easy class. He doesnt have an accent, but he wears the same outfit every day (blue sweater vest, white shirt, tan or gray pants) He likes to use examples to introduce new concepts which makes it kinda hard to follow your notes later. they say if you pass calculus the 2nd time ur a genius, we passed the 1st time with him.
He tries so hard to be nice its cute! but he sure makes you feel stupid sometimes with those blank looks. my advice find some poor shmuck to ask all the questions.

The guy is so lame, the class only had 100 points, and the average quizzes were worth 15 of them with each question woth a point. His teaching is terrible, when going through a section, he only does 2 or so examples, and then you have to figure it out when you get home, and if you are having troubles, he wont go through the problem with you, he just gets you past the part that you are havin trouble with. i hated the way that he looks at you, makes you feel stupid. Its pretty bad.
This guy is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He does everything backwards. He doesn't fnish problems, he expects you to put every little detail in homework. On tests, if you don't show some of you work and you still got the problem right, he won't give you credit. I would NOT recommend to anyone!!
Terrible grading policy. You could be a WHIZ at math and still have trouble passing his 51 class because of the way he grades. He is seriously the most ANAL teacher I have ever met. If you DO get stuck with him, it's tolerable. I just wouldn't reccomend him.

Not a nice person. Treats people like small children. If you need help on a homework problem he will not finish working it out because I guess he does not want to give you the answer. Then how can a person fully understand the problem? I would not take his class again if my life depended on it!
I wouldn't reccomend him if you've got a better teacher in mind. He's very anal about showing your work and he has a weird grading policy. It's definitely tolerable though, so don't be discouraged. No accent though- understanding him is easy.
He was the best instructor I ever had in MSJC. He responded to students' question honestly and willing to explain until you understand. He showed his patience to the students' very basic questions. The exam wasn't easy, but as long as you show your work, he generously gives you points. If you are a matured, you will be a good student in his class.
I took this class last semester with another teacher and failed it. Ron Ito WANTS you to be able to understand and get it. Make sure you never erase work on tests, and he is kind of lenient with the final answer if you show how you got there. He is strict about attendance, but as long as you are serious about the class, you should do good-recommend
He is a great teacher. Take his notes in class because that is what is on the test, but with different number. He explain everything clearly and offer help whenever you need it. He can be anal about showing ALL your work on the test. So, showw all your work. Give half point for trying the problems on test, so don't leave it blank. Overall great cla
I WAS AFRAID HE'D HAVE AN ACCENT BEFORE I STARTED THAT CLASS, BUT HE DOESN'T. I THOUGHT HE EXPLAINS THINGS CLEARLY BUT HE GOES OUT OF ORDER. HIS GRADING SUCKS! BUT HE'S NICE. REALLY DORKY!
This professor sucked. He was really out of order, disorganized about teaching. I think he tried to do a socratic method while teaching math, by asking questions, omg that didn't work. And if you ask for help, he'll make you feel totally stupid in front of others. He wears the same clothes every day, dockers with that stupid navy blue vest.
He is a good teacher interested in his subject and students learning it. He is very helpful and very professional
He was rude. Half the time never answered the question asked. Over half the class struggled to pass this class. He told us we coudn't use the bathroom. and always wore the same clothes.
He is a very straightforward teacher and some might like that but I like instructors who show enthusiasm for what they teach. I also didn't like his grading policy. The entirety of the class assignments was out of 100, so if you missed a single point it would be 1% off the overall grade. Not much room for error.
just do the work and you'll pass. really really strict about being late or missing any classes
There were some communication problems between the teacher and the students. He also had problems explaining the simpler subjects, although he was good at explaining the complicated topics. There was a lot of homework and his grading scale is really wierd. I would take him again, but it took two-thirds of the semester to get used to him.
Good at explaining things, he would go into a lesson assuming you didn't know anything about the lesson, so you are guaranteed to get a good explanation for every lesson. VERY helpful. :0)
Teacher was nice, but not very many people passed the class. The tests count for over 80% of the total class grade.
This teacher is very uptight. change Becomes arguementative if u have anything to add to his concepts. If a student had a question, he interrupt them to answer something completely different. Hes tolerable but extremely annoying. I would not recommend.
This teacher gives so much homework and cant even work out the problems himself. He tends to grade pretty hard and has difficulty communicating appropriately with his students. I would recommend taking Math 155 at another college!
Worst professor I have ever had!He does not understand the material. His grading system ensures that most of his students fail.He assigns 10x too much work & spends class period doing hw instead of teaching.Expect to teach yourself in this course. Also if you miss a class even for medical emergencies he will drop you BEWARE! P.s. Im an A student
I've never felt more stupid in a math class, and I'm rather intelligent. I found his attitude degrading and his lack teaching skills makes this difficult class that much harder. He fails to provide a thorough understanding of the class, and he gets so easily confused he can barely help his students.
Terrible teacher. Does not know the material at all. He will not answer questions (because he cannot work out the homework problems himself), and thus will fail you on arbitrary rules that he sets (you must write hypotenuse over triangles or you fail!), Do not take.
Prof Ron Ito- He has some issues. Wear the exact same cloths everyday. Super tight on attendance and late arrival. Grading is very hard, but tests r easy. 5 tests 20 pts each make up your 100%. If you do one question wrong u loose 1 percent towards the grade. Not a recommended teacher.
professor Ito is awesome! I absolutely recommend him. He is honest, straightforward, clear and concise. Very professional and helpful.
Awesome teacher!!!! yes he is strict but as long as you LISten and take good notes, do the scheduled assignments, you will be just fine. a few students are intimidated by mr. ito. they dont ask ques and thats why they get confused. He is personable and down to earth. highly recommend his classes! he's smart and knows what he's talking about.
Smart prof. grading is tough but very good class. prof ito is helpful.
Wasn't helpful and makes the students struggle.
Hard class. Made the students struggle. Don't take him. He is very negative to your questions you ask him. Homework was boring and long
He is very hard and he is very negative. Never answers your questions. Most people failed his class. He is not nice.
This professor is good, he teaches in a way that's understandable and does many examples. The only thing is that he is not very approachable while in class. Outside of class he is very nice and even funny. But while he is in his teaching mode he is extremely strict, uptight, and makes anyone feel stupid if you ask a question. Strict but good.
Very confusing, does not know the material, does not answer your question,if you do not write the problem specifically how he wants it but your answer is write you get a half point, homework is 100% if everything looks done...nice guy outside of class...don't take this teacher if you need to pass a math class
This is the worst math teacher I've taken! He confuses himself way too many times thus confusing the students. The students are scared to ask questions because he is intimidating. He makes you feel dumb if you do not know the material. Basically, had to reteach the material myself. Most kids ended up dropping the class because they couldn't keep up.
I can see why people wouldn't like him but he's really not all that hard if you pay attention and show up to class everyday. And yes, attendance is mandatory or else he drops you. My only warning is that there are only 100 points available in this class, so every point counts. He takes off point for every little thing, so be careful!
Teacher was somewhat intimidating, he got frustrated with a few students when they came to him for help and I did not go to him for help because of that. He would always confuse himself when teaching a lesson and says he would fix it later and he never would clarify the lessons when he said he would that left the class to teach themselves.
This teacher is really confusing. He makes students buy the book, but he doesn't use it to teach, does not know the material, does not answer your question, and gets angry if you ask something. If people do not speak English completely, he ignores them completely. He is really a bad teacher, he definitely should not be a teacher.
It's his way or no way. Treats students like elementary aged children. If you tried to ask a question because you didn't understand, he would belittle you in front of the whole class. He was helpful if you had the time to stay after class and ask questions. If I didn't have the time after class to get help I don't believe I would have passed.
In the course I took, only got 100 points for the whole class. By the first test I was already at a B for points off just the one test, with no option to earn more. At the beginning of each class, asked if anyone had questions on mandatory HW, and got noticeably angry if no one spoke up. Really difficult teacher to handle, I had to drop the class.
I'm terrible at math and and terrified I'm not going to pass this class and its only week two into the semester! Teacher makes you feel kinda dumb when asking questions. Teaches too fast and too much in a class period time. Very strict! Show up on time and not a minute later. Crossing my fingers and toes I pass :
He nit pics points and is not flexible in his teaching style. He is a very nice person however His teaching style Is not for the student. He rushes through concepts without fully explaining it. When you ask for helP he refers you to your notes which doesn't always help. If you are already strong In math then take him, If not skip his class!
Professor Ito is definitely not for everyone. His way of teaching can really confuse and irritate many people, however, if you are used to dealing with very strict and tough teachers then you will do just fine. You have to show up for class and always pay close attention. If you want a good challenge then this class is for you.
You wouldn't have a problem with this guy if u have a very strong background in Math. He's an okay person but goes through materials really fast, doesn't give that much examples, would rather have you wait till after class to go over materials instead of going over it in class so everyone could benefit, gets noticeably mad & don't be 1 sec late.
He was the worst teacher I have ever had! If you ask for another example, he'll tell you NO!
Excellent math professor! His homework and grading is fair. Teaching method is clear and precise. Really wants his students to excel in his class. Funny , personable and approachable. Obvious he loves teaching . Very smart and dedicated to his work. Makes math easy
Worst teacher ever treats you like a kid doesn't explain well and doesn't take time in class to explain things
His teaching is clear, but sometimes treats the students like children. He's a fair grader, & makes his expectations very clear. He can be strict. Sometimes he makes you feel dumb when you ask questions during class, but if you ask for help after class he does a great job of explaining & will truly be glad to help. He's nice, but not for everyone.
Poor communication with students and is strict on attendance. However on test, he does give you half credit if the answer is wrong but the work shows you had the right idea. Just study and do his homework and DONT ask questions in front of the class.
He was really strict on his grading. Any small mistake and he would mark you off even though the answer is right. Has some attitude and makes you feel bad for asking a question.
This professor is Not one of my favorites there is alot of homework and it is only worth 5points( i am talking 11 sections and any where from 35-50 ?'s a chapter there are only 5 test worth 15 points each. he offers no extra credit and to get partial points you must have more than a right answer, the work must be the same as he had it on the board.
very difficult teacher. Gets mad when you ask questions, is negative. Doesn't give extra credit, doesn't know how to explain, gives examples that have nothing to do with the math. If you want to pass DON'T take this teacher. He is rude and makes you feel dumb when reaching for help.
Just plain horrible. If you ask a question during class he makes you feel dumb. He is extremely strict on how you do the work, if you don't do it exactly how he has it its either wrong or half credit, doesn't matter if the answer you got was right. He makes simple work so hard. If this is the only teacher available, don't take math this semester.
VERY strict when it comes to attendance, tests, and homework. If you don't do the problem his way but still get the correct answer, he'll still mark it wrong. DO NOT COME LATE. Makes you feel dumb for asking questions in class. Confuses himself & doesn't know how to explain AT ALL! Treats all his students like children. Had to drop the class.
This was the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. He will yell at the class if no one answers his questions, belittle people for answering questions wrong, and he has terrible communication skills with his students. Our class had 35 people in it and now only 10 remain. Do not take this class. Only a handful of us will end up passing.
There is an absolute ton of homework, and attendance is MANDATORY. He will be noticeably angry if you're even 10 seconds late to class. There is NO extra credit, NO makeup quizzes/tests, and most certainly NO open book/note exams. His lectures are long and tiring, and his demeanor scares people from asking questions. His tests are VERY hard.
This guy is hard and you need to study and do his homework.
While I liked Ito in the beginning of the semester, I found his class to be increasingly difficult (as most classes do). Although I asked questions about the previous homework, those questions were not enough and I had no other option since Ito wants problems solved his way or the highway. does not allow students to use bathroom during class time.
Worst teacher I have ever had. If you finally work up the courage to ask a question, he will belittle you and then tell you to figure it out on your own. Do not come to class late; he will make a fool of you in front of the class. He is an impossible grader. Does not give partial credit and does not give direction on tests. He is mean and rude
Prof Ito very knowledgeable and personable. He answers questions to the best of his knowledge and cares. Sure there a lot of homework but it's not as bad as everyone thinks. He is kind and does not make you feel stupid if you ask a question. Others just say negative things because they think they can get an easy A but you have to earn it!
His rules are fair, and if you respect them there should be no problem between you and him. Ask questions when u have the chance, seriously. If youd like a challenge, this teacher is for you. Oh, and he will mark a problem wrong on the test if you dont follow the way he taught you in class, whether u got the answer right or not.
Definitely would not take again. Avoid this class if you can. Ridiculous amount of homework that isn't worth much. The Test are whatever You will get zero credit if you do not do it the way he likes it. Even if theres another way , It's his way or the high way. He makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Not a very approachable person.
He has really great lectures and always gives plenty of chances to ask questions if you are not understanding something. There is quite a lot of homework but for the most part, everything is straight forward and the tests are easy if you study. Beware, you must memorize a lot of formulas as he doesn't provide them for the exams.
Professor Ito was one of the more challenging professors I've had at MSJC. Homework everyday, due at the exams. Lecture heavy as well. Pay attention and try not to miss class otherwise it will be very difficult. People say he's rude when you ask a question but I sincerely don't think he means to come off as rude or condescending.
This is the worst math professor I have ever had. He will make you feel stupid for asking a question in class and is not approachable at all. If you are late he will embarrass you in front of everyone. He is extremely inconsiderate of other people's circumstances.
I know i'm not the smartest in Math in general, but he was a very strict grader even if you got the right answer. It was difficult to understand the concepts with his teaching methods and he wouldn't let us use other methods of understanding the material such as youtube or the like. His way or the highway! he wouldnt even let us use the restroom!
AVOID taking this professor if you can. I attended every class and went to tutoring to get extra help but he moves too fast in the class and trys to teach too much in one class session. He was a nice person but should work on his teaching methods. Grades are also not posted so you must calculate your own.
This class was overwhelming to say the least you were expected to order book which is obvious, write each question from the book which at times was half a page before you could answer it, It was like writing the whole book over for the author. It was way over the top and just plain unnecessary
I asked this professor to let me take the test early so I could have time to do it since it interfered with my full time job. He doesnt do anything so I dont have enough time to do it before work and I got failed for it.
I've never had a professor so unwilling to help students. If you aren't an absolute math whiz and confident in your math skills do not take his class. His grading system gives him numerous opportunities to take points and very few to reward. I felt like he rambled atleast once or twice every lecture and not in a good way.
I felt ill prepared for what Prof Ito had expected out of this class. Exhausting amounts of hw, very specific way of grading (you HAVE to do it the way he does it), and a condescending demeanor. No time for stupid questions. While in the zoom call, you're muted/no cam which sounds nice, but he doesn't stop to check for questions. Also he rants alot
Requires Stewart's textbook, red cover. Homework gets submitted as PDF before exams and requires all work to be shown. Exams are done online using LaTex or canvas equation editor and must show all work the way he taught in lecture PDFs. Honestly not many passed this section. My advice is to use SAME layout he used when solving lecture examples.
AVOID IF YOU WANT GOOD GRADE. 4 exams plus 1 cumulative, a total of 5 exams. If you take him, don't expect him to give you a passing grade that easily, even if you attend all meetings and did all the hw his way. Expects each exam problem to take LESS than 10 min to complete, even though he takes 20 min on basic questions. unhelpful on questions too
One of the worst professor I have ever had in my college career! His exams and homework are not difficult but it is A LOT of work. Would never recommend him for the summer, his homework is extremely excessive. In terms of solutions he only wants it solved in HIS way any other way, even from the textbook, is considered wrong to him.
Professor Ito was honestly such a great prof to have. people complain about the homework but how else are you expected to learn? his lectures were easy to understand since he doesnt skip steps by assuming anything is "common sense" and if you dont understand something whether lecture or homework hes SUPER good at finding another way to explain it
Ron Ito gives homework questions before even teaching the material. I have no idea how to do some of the homework problems. He lays the hammer down on all the students before even getting to know them. Every day I walk out of his class, I feel extremely exhausted because of all the note-taking, but I'm not learning anything. He makes me so worried.
Professor ito is a professor that expects you to know the course before ever being enrolled. He has ridiculed students for asking questions and has required students to come on faculty days for tests. He is a not my problem style professor. Regretting this class is an understatement
Must pay for textbook and lectures don't match. In fact if you don't do problems exactly how he would he just gives a zero. Slow to respond to emails and seems bothered to answer questions. 4 tests,1 final, and 4 hw packets. Hands out zeroes on tests like candy. Hw packets ended up being 100+ pages each. Will not go over anything twice. Stay away.
IM NOT DONE YET. he's bald and attacking people with hair.
Do NOT take this class guys. ito is definitely the type to beat my grandma and give her a 0 for not getting up. Not only is he making his students pay for textbooks, but they're not even useful in the long run. He prefers his OWN methods and assigns over 100 pages. plus, he is indeed bald which is AUTOMATICALLY a dealbreaker. SKIP THIS CLASS
Concepts themselves weren't difficult in this course, but his convoluted methods (which were the only allowed techniques to compute otherwise easy problems) set us up for failure. People in my class had over 100+ page homework packets--the quantity of homework is insane. Tests are okay if you did the hw, but the hw itself was difficult to finish.
Don't expect to learn anything from this professor, his lectures, or online materials (they use different methods). Be prepared to suffer through 100+ page homework packets and his slow email responses.
Cant get any wrose than this. He cuts his lectures short by skipping steps, yet he emphasizes to always show your work. Doesn't trust his own work as he pauses in lectures to double check for typos in simple arithmetic operations. Get ready for about 400 pages of handwritten homework and 5 exams. All this for a 3 unit class?
One of the worst professors I've ever had. From the intro lecture with him, he has been nothing but unhelpful. Skips steps, doesn't elaborate in class, and would often assign material that's concepts weren't fully touched on. Passed the class but not thanks to him, look elsewhere
Entered the class for the first time, and instantly was introduced with a stressful and tense environment. The professor seemed more focused on someone paying attention instead of teaching. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless you don't care for strict rules and 0 tolerance policy.
At first he comes off as a very strict teacher, but it honestly is just keeping everyone on track and focused. This was in-person, and I personally did all my other courses online, but he is great in person. Jokes around, accepts when he is wrong and will teach you the corrections. You need to remember the equations (a lot) but he grades generously
Overall, one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a classroom, comes off as extremely dismissive during lectures and is quite arrogant and teaches you to learn from "bad habits" but in reality, isn't adaptive as a teacher (ironic). Overall, extremely strict about you can and can't do when doing homework (at least 100 pages per section).
As a person that understands algebra at an intermediate level, his teaching methods are really complex, he emphasizes about using arithmetic. If you are late, you will be called out for your tardies. Lectures are intense mine lasted about 3 hours, you have to be very specific with your answers on test! Please go to the extra tutoring help to pass!
This is the worst teacher I've ever had. I know I'm not exactly the smartest kid but when the whole class gets a zero on every test I think there's something wrong
Hybrid STATS. This is from the Temecula campus. How his class works is he will go over 4-5 homework questions as a lecture/lesson. All work is either exam, homework or final exam. If you fail an exam twice, you will not pass. You must buy a textbook in order to do the questions. We had almost a full class of 40, now there are 18 seats available.
I took him during Fall in 2025, I'm not joking when I say this, over half of the class dropped him before the midterms.I remember every seat being filled on the first few weeks of school, after a couple of months there were at most 10 people left in the class. Don't take this class at ANY cost.
I failed this this class subject isn't the problem in the person who teaches it really and ten packets it's only worth 5 points not worth it.
If you are enjoying life and want to keep it that way do not take his class. He's rude and not helpful at all, asked a question during a lecture and he made sure to make sure I was embarrassed tand was not ever helpful at all. Withdrawing from his class was the best decision I could've made. DO NOT pick him for your sanity.
I had this professor for statistics this fall semester and I can say that it has been one of those tough time. He doesn't offer you any lecture online, like any video or some extra material to help you with the course. There is not any extra credit at all!! The final exam is worth the same as other exams that you take through out the semester.
