Good instructor who sticks to his rules
If you like dry examples like wheat prices in kansas...he's you're man...zzzzzzz
Rather boring, but presents the material well. Gives xtra points for attendance.

Core econ course. Excellent linear regression lectures.

Good Professor, kind of boring. Straight forward exams but VERY lengthy ~3 hrs.
Vague exam questions, not much partial credit
Great teacher, keep up with it &u will get an A,know his stuff.
Very good teacher. You will learn a lot, but a lot of homework and long tests
Interesting lectures. Can really learn material. Allows formula sheet for exams
Terrible teacher, not easy to understand, very hard tests and lengthy tests

Very good teacher. You will learn a lot, but a lot of homework and long tests
Interesting lectures. Can really learn material. Allows formula sheet for exams
I found tests hard, but they are straight from his notes. No assigend homework, but you have to keep up. No projects.
u gotta do project...and dont miss class...test are hard...boring!!
very vague, the quizzes are ok, but the tests are difficult you definitely have to study.
His tests are extreamly hard. He gives extra points for attendance which helps out a lot.
Test are hard but attendence can boost your grade. Not bad of a teacher
Knows his stuff. Very helpful and explains things clearly. The course itself is very difficult but he explains clearly and is a great professor. Very fair. Can have a formulas only sheet on exam and attendance points are a great help.
Awful teacher. Confusing. Definately have to keep up
Tough class to start out your MBA on. Topics were very interesting and useful. You will learn plenty, but have to work hard to earn an A.
Good Professor, very helpful. Gives practice tests and tests from the lecture and hw. do the hw cause it is an important part of your grade.
Best econ teacher I've had at this school (and I've had a lot). He actually knows what he's talking about and knows how to convey it to his students. Memorize definitions and wording of phrases exactly and study hard though
If you go to class and take god notes... you'll do just fine!! He lays out what is goin to be on the test... I didn't crack the book the entire semister.. good teacher and cool dude.
Awesome professor! He tells you what will be on the exam. Study those things and attend class regularly and you will have no problem in the class. Never used the book ... homework was only for your benefit.
He is a really good teacher! His quizzes are word for word his notes and tests are ok, you just need to read the book a little. Go to class and extra points are added to your FINAL grade. GREAT! One of the best teachers I've had at UNCC so far! =)
He does know Econ very well, but he thinks everyone should have a thorough understanding of it as well. If you don't then you will be lost, and he will not cover anything he thinks you should already know.
Great teacher, tells you what will be on test exactly, gives extra credit for attendence, don't have to take final unless you need it to replace another grade, very smart man
This teacher is extremely hard- DO NOT TAKE HIM !! Goes on and on in class about nothing, Thinks everyone knows ECON as well as he does. Dont need the book bcse it confuses you more, very long tests.
extra credit for attendance, drops lowest grade... he covers the material quickly, which keeps it from getting boring and repetative... hard but fair... always friendly when you stop by his office with ?'s... i made it out with an A
assigned seats, takes attendance every day, tests are terribly hard. The book and the study guid dont help at all , so dont even waste your time, TAKE ECON WITH SOMEONE ELSE !!!!! you wont regret it .
Assumes that all the students are on the same level as he is. When students asks questions, he gives sarcastic remarks as if the student is stupid. Moves very fast through sometimes not so easy calculations. Not a good professor at all.
Very hard class. He is very knowledge but does not teach really well. If you work a lot on your own you can make an A. Give extra points for attendance and a cheat sheet every exam!
Excellent teacher and nice guy. Expects folks to work, so that creates a problem for some students. Expects people to actually prepare for class by doing homework and stuff.
Memorization is rewarded; thinking is NOT. I was very disappointed at having to regurgitate his notes word-for-word on tests or be penalized.
Great teacher, tells what will be on tests, expects you to do hw every night, extra credit for attendence and curves at end of semester
Write fast! His tests are not hard if you do yr hw. He just has to give us more time for the test. He is nice guy, give partial credit to yr answer. This is not an easy class. I just hope he could give us use a cheat sheet or give us more time for the test/exam. OVerall not bad at all.
Very hard class, but tests are all the same, memorize all notes, hard math problems, and use word for word interpretations. extra credit for attend. Do the hw.
He knows the material well, flies through it and expects you to know what he is talking about. I study endless hours, know the material well and still bomb the tests. If your natural at econ you might do well otherwise take someone else!! Not the nicest guy either, very condescending.
very hard class, teacher isnt very supportive, it is possible to get a decent grade but with a lot of time, stress, and effort
If you are an Econ major, and you've already had econometrics, ECON 3125 is an EASY class. If you're not an Econ major, take Krapl.
By far the worst Professor I have ever had. Not helpful, word tests different than notes, says he will meet you but is not there, terrible about answering email. Does not explain anything well...all about you figuring it out on your own. Huge mistake
He is one of the best professors in the ECON department. He gives a lot of extra points for coming to class and his tests are straight from the notes. He even tells word for word what three questions on the test will be.
Great professor. He understands the art of the pith. He tells you what you need to know, then cuts you loose. Tests are a challenge, but do the homework and they're not bad. Very enjoyable class when I initially dreaded taking Managerial Econ.
Great teacher. He gives extremely clear and detailed notes. The material will take some time to grasp. However, if you memorize the notes, and can perform all the homework problems without referring back to the notes, you will have no problem earning an A.
The best teacher i have had at UNCC, he is so nice to everyone and will help you with anything, tells you exactly what will be on test and gives a big bonus at the end of class for attendance.
I had him for both managerial econ and econometrics. You should take him for both, the first class might be harder than you would like but the next will be ez because the classes are simular. I thought that he was a great teacher i made A's in both of his classes. also the summer econometrics class was ez b/c of the alotted time went fast.
WTF? I think he's put some of these good responses on here himself. Worst teacher I've ever had. Tests were as close to impossible as it gets and was real nitpicky grading them. Acted like a jerk all the time. Everyone in the class always said how much they hated him. The most stressing class I've ever had. Made me hate the entire semester.
He must have written his own comments...tests were tough, he hates to be bothered while he was lecturing and in his office. Very Very picky on his tests. He has a very bad attitude. If you can avoid him...I advise doing so.
These people complaining must NOT have done their homework-it's that simple-I had him as an undergrad and now in grad school- his test come straight from lecture and homework- never any surprises- VERY interesting & business savvy guy. You should do great if you are not lazy. His ECON topics make real world sense and can actually be applied.
Know the class notes, read what he asks, and PRACTICE all of the problems (know the material) and you will do fine. Very interesting, and is very intelligent. One of the few professors at this school that actually knows what he is talking about, not just putting on a show.
The material is not that hard but the way he grades the tests and the homework is insane. He is VERY picky!!! Make sure you know EVERYTHING he puts on the board. I got an A but only because of the attendence extra credit. If you can get 10s on the homeworks without looking at the notes you should be fine ok. He's a little mean at first too.
Comes off kind of mean at first, but warms up later. Tests are straightforward- if you keep up with the homework you'll do fine. He is sometimes hard to follow in class, so read the book to ensure understanding. My only complaint about him is that he will NOT go over homework during class. You form groups for that. Otherwise not bad, I made an A.
Dr. Madsen is the absolute stuff. No dobut he is one of the best professors at this university. The course is difficult, but if you did OK in STAT then you should not have too much trouble, plus Dr. Madsen makes it so much easier that in could be. He is the most approchable professor I have ever had and would absolutly take him again.
If you have not taken any other econ classes or are not econ oriented at all - DO NOT TAKE MADSEN! He will make you take atleast 4 pages of notes a day and will NOT go back to explain anything! He has no regard for the students that are having a hard time with the material. I went to class every day and still failed every test.
The guy knows what he's talking about and does explain it well, but when it comes time to take the tests, he throws you a bunch of curve balls that make his tests virtually impossible to prepare for in an effective manner. Also, he's a pretty cold guy that seems to be lacking social skills. All in all, I'd avoid taking him if at all possible.
He is great at explaining the material. But his test are not multiple choice or True/false. You have to know everything and be able to write definitions and show all work and interpretations on the test. The only bad thing is that it can be a lot of material to remember for the test.
Tests TOO long for time given. I lost 23 points for unfinished problems. Only 4-5 finished test and he gave a 5 point curve. I knew everything on the test but made a 68 b/c I didnt finish. Unreasonable, doesnt go over homework, dont interupted during lecture...Ill only pass b/c of attendance bonus. If you want a nice, fair teacher, ITS NOT MADSEN!
His tests are hard, you should be ready for everything on them as EVERY QUESTION is almost identical to homework problems, his tests are no joke, you will write til your hand falls off or times up... STUDY!!! You need to pay attention to every little thing he says! He is GREAT! Can be intimidating sometimes... Take him if you really want to learn!
Very hard but very clear. He is one of the best teacher I have ever had. You definately know what is expceted the first day. You either make it or break it! :)
This teacher is very straight to the point. Unlike most teachers who baby the kids that don't get it...he will go on and then help them AFTER class when it is appropriate to help them instead of dragging the class on longer than it should go! Very awesome teacher and very eager to help AFTER class.
Madsen is tough and expects YOU to learn the matertial. The homework helps alot. If you leave it to the last minute, it can be VERY overwhelming. You have to be prepared for exams b/c if you're not, you won't have time to finish. Questions can be worth up to 25 points each. Try Hard, You'll do fine.
Dr. Madsen is a good professor. He tries his best to explain this as clearly as possible, as the material can be confusing and difficult to understand. Overall he is an effective teacher. However, he always tends to get annoyed if he has to answer a question during his lecture and his annoyance is quite apparent.
The best professor I have ever taken. Clearly explains everything, and tests only on what is covered. I did not think the material was that hard because he explained it so well. Do not pass on the opportunity to take him, he is a GREAT professor.
Very thorough professor, EVERYTHING on his tests come from his notes. Gives extra credit for attendance. Grade consists of homework, tests, and two fairly easy projects.
Dr. Madsen is an excellent professor. He is extremely approachable and very kind.
In my opinion, very boring and poor professor. He knows his material but doesn't do a good job conveying it to the students. He takes attendance, lectures tend to drag. Save yourself!
Classes are lecture filled and BORING. Ideas not conveyed well. No powerpoints, but writes on boards and draws charts. Gives extra credit for attendance. Tests pretty hard. I'm an A- student and first test I got a 74, next tests got 84 and 84. I'd avoid this prof is possible. He's not the worst, but surely not the best.
He's a likeable guy. Knows his stuff. He does a decent job at teaching hard stuff. Tests aren't the easiest things in the world but he gives extra credit for perfect attendance.
Labor Econ: Pretty tough class. 3 required books but tests heavily weighted on the actual textbook. He doesn't teach a whole lot in class but assigns homework that is very pertinent to the material you'll be tested on. I would recommend for any econ major, especially those who like micro, but be prepared to study for the A.
I took 3112 before 3125, which is much harder, and it made 3125 very easy. He is an AMAZING teacher. Go to class, do the HW, and study them for the tests, and they are cake. They may be lenghty, but if you know your stuff, they are easy. Attendance counts BIG, and being able to memorize stuff will helpout huge. Take him, you won't regret it!
The tests are easy, but his grading is ridiculous. You can get all of the answers right and still make a B, because your wording is not EXACTLY, word-for-word, identical to his. For example, he'll take off if you write the answer as "100 microwaves" instead of "100 GE SpaceSaver 3000 Microwave Ovens." And God forbid you only write "Q=100"...
If you are not familiar with any of the material, then try to avoid this class...if you get behind, hard to catch back up. Grades hard and different on everything, I did extremely well on all quizzes, but bad on tests.
He is very hard, tests are lengthy and hard, MUST do all homework which is graded, absolute stickler for grading, 2 rather easy projects but they help your grade a lot, must buy book. Nice guy, knows his stuff better than you could imagine! I actually liked the class towards the end and learned a lot.
He is a Good teacher! Attend class...He gives extra credit for attending class at the end of the semster. The material is very hard, so I would recommend studying and reading the book. He does not give you notes, the only notes he gives is on the board during class.
This is the second class I've had with him both classes are essay tests but if you go to class, study and read the book you can get an A like I did. If your lazy then forget it, you can learn a lot from him.
He is a good teacher! Attend class...He gives extra credit for attending class at the end of the semster. The material is tough, so definitely studying and reading the book. He does not give you notes, the only notes he gives is on the board during class.
Go to class, copy everything, memorize it, do the homework and make an A. Anything less than this and your grade will show it. He won't baby you. If you don't want to go to class drop this class asap
You will not leave this class without acquiring the essential tools necessary to make sound economic decisions related to your business. The professor is very inspiring, entertaining, and knowledgable!
WEAK.
Econometrics was really hard for me. His test are not multiple choice, homework is graded, and there are two projects to do. He or his lab aid nit picks all the work you turn it so it's pretty hard to get an A, but on the plus side the final is optional.
If you read your book, study the notes, and are good at memorizing, you should come out with at least a B in this class. He does not give multiple choice tests and tends to take off points for inconsequential things, so be thorough. Other than that, he was a good teacher; I learned a lot from him.
He is the pickiest teacher I have ever had. With that said, his class was actually incredibly interesting and useful. Do the homework, attend class, and put time into your 2 projects and you should get an A or B easily. Easy tests but he will take off points left and right if your wording is not EXACTLY how he likes it.
Study, pay attention, and do the homework. For exams do the homework again to study.
