He's tough and unclear for SJLA, not helpful w/ work, has favorites, class games
has favorites, grading seems inconsistant

Philosophy is tough, but Fron makes it rock - you'll definitely laugh!
Outstanding. Fun & interesting in & out of class, willing to help, challenging
Go FRON! By far the best teacher I've had. Interesting topics, fun activities!
FRON kicks ass! he makes you want to learn what he's teaching
Great teacher, interesting class, keps you involved and intentive. excellant.
Fr. Ron is awesome! A lot of fun in class.
Definitely has totally different takes on things than any priest you've ever met....However, he gives you a nice grounding and a foretaste of Whittaker....Fron Rules!!! Even if he does put Jay Leno on his exams...:-)
Fron is one of the best teachers I've had at the U. He make class interesting and keeps you on your toes. His grading is hard, but his classes are great!
Father Ron is AWESOME!! this has to be my favorite class by far...information is so interesting, makes you want to participate and learn. grading is hard but get on his good side and you will do great!
Father Ron was a great experience at the U. For SJLA and for phil. of law, good man, good heart. He taught me a great deal.
Nice guy, but extremely demanding. Very hard grader. I think he's too use to the SJLA kids... he thinks everyone should be an overachiever.
Fun teacher!!

Father Ron is my favorite teacher at the University so far. He keeps you interested in his classes, and has a great sense of humor. Although the tests may be a bit difficult, and he may grade a little hard, I definately think his class was worth taking.
He's funny, but unreasonably strict on grades, unless you suck up to him in his dorm. commuters: avoid!
He is wonderful. He does grade hard, but he makes philosophy less about memorizing facts and more about discovering yourself. And he's hysterical! Definitely take him if you have the chance. You'll have a good time in his class
awesome teacher surprise quizzes suck makes class fun interesting. definately take.
I've taken classes with Fron 3 times over the past 2 years, and I'll be taking my 4th with him in the fall. (Yes, I am an SJLAer. How did you gess?) His classes are really interesting and he keeps you on your toes at all times. He's a great guy! Take

Real good guy with a very interesting class. He encourages class participation and overall his class isnt that hard.
Fun guy, but this class sucks. He expects too much of freshman, and it brought down my gpa. ICK!
Don't be fooled by Take Home Tests - they're harder than an in-class exam could ever be. He's a really good guy and a really great teacher, but his class brings your GPA something awful. Take if you want to learn a lot but don't care about your grade.
Ron's a tough grader, you have to work hard and come in with writing skills in order to do well, nothing impossible though. You can revise all your essays. Take home tests are hard thats what but that's what study groups are for. Class is FUN, not a drag!
Most interesting class i've taken so far. Grading is rough, but not impossible.
Very funny, lets you make fun of him, easy going, does group tests but is picky with the answers, DO THE READING, a low pop quiz average will hurt you
DON'T BE DECEIVED by his nice demeanor!!! He's a good guy and a great, vibrant teacher, but it's a very challenging course. Need to do the readings (random pop quizzes). Tests are difficult. Papers can be redone.
awesome teacher!! the class is great, all discussion, he really makes you think..definately take med ethics with him, especially if your pre-health
What an amazing Jesuit.I was beginning to think it was impossible to score anything higher than a B with them. He is absolutely hysterical, and the greatest Devil's Advocate. I reccommend this class for anyone, as it actually has relevance to real life!:o
Great guy. Always entertaining in class. Work load no prob if you do the assignments. Quizes easy if you take notes from book, impassible without. Not easy grade, but fun class experience.
FR Ron is awsome...i find him hilarious-he's always dancing around and making fun of people...the tests are kinda hard but they are take home exams which make it better. Quizes are a pain---AMAZING GUY!!!
Take him just to watch him dance in class!!Has to be seen to be believed.Class=always interesting. Knows his stuff+relates everything to real life. Super-friendly guy+good person to talk to about anything.Puts alot into classes.Nice job Ron!!
I had FRON back in 1998...he was then and still is an awesome man, priest and teacher. He makes you realize what is important in life and truly makes you a humbled individual. I can only hope that he will perform my marriage ceremony for me one day...
Fron is an amazing teacher. He's so helpful and even though he picks on all of us he he just so great. Take his class if you can.
Fron is a great teacher, material wise. HE allows rewrites but is unclear upon what he wants corrected. Very approachable, very funny. I loved him.
I believe he wouldn't give me an A on any of my essays or tests because I wanted them so badly. He's such a smartass, but I like him either way. Very insightful. Read for your quizzes, future SJLA classes!
Very funny in a smartass way, you can make fun of him in class, rewrites on all the papers, a few easy 5 ques quizes on the readings and one in class debate, dont need to pay attention in class, just for the debates. need participation
very interesting teacher, really knew what he was talking about & makes you really interested in SJLA, tough grader but allows rewrites, no tests- all papers
not the best. leave it at that.
I was disappointed with Fr.Ron. I was expecting a lot, but he isn’t a good teacher at all. He BS’s about the law but doesn’t know it, and he picks favorites. It is an easy class.A b- is probably the low end, but you don’t learn anything, and he doesn’t care about what you have to say.
Made the class very fun and interesting. Mostly a great class and teacher. However, the papers and tests are very involved and he can be tough on grading. He allows rewrites on the papers. Pop quizzes on readings, but allows use of notebook. I recommend him.
Don't be fooled. The take-home tests are impossible and he lets you rewrite papers because he rarely gives grades higher than a C the first time. He is not an easy grader at all. His class is fun though and he makes philosophy interesting. Just be prepared to work for your grade.
He is the greatest! I loved his class. He makes you think and you will really learn something if you want to.
he picked on me a lot in class but it was all in fun, I went along with it. He's a good guy and a good teacher. If medical ethics is offered, take it, it's an interesting class. Just do your work and don't forget to read for the quizzes.
Great teacher and a genuinely great person, too!
Fron is great but the pop quizzes suck, papers and exams are decently hard and tedious. Overall a good course though, it'll challenge you to think and learn.
Fr. McKinney is a cold little man with not much going for him in the way of reaching students. I would stay away if I were you.
Fron is awesome! He makes a difficult class incredibly interesting. His pop quizzes are easy if you follow the accompanying questions in the book. He grades essays and tests pretty hard, but if you have a general idea of what he's looking for you will do fine. He's amazing to get along with.
Fron is awesome. The class is a lot of fun, even though the papers and take-home tests are a pain in the neck.
Fr. Ron is really great. He makes the material interesting, besides making class entertaining on a daily basis. He takes a huge body of information and makes it understandable. His tests are take-home but challenging and he grades fairly. He basically tells you how to rewrite the essays. His quizzes are easy if you read the questions in the book.
Fron is such a great teacher!Being I am an SJLAer, I was lucky enough to have him for philosophy this term. The classes were quite entertaining. They typically consisted of 10 minutes of actually lecture, 30 minutes of discussion and arguing, and 10 minutes of personality quizzes. The group tests are hard, but you get used to them and they're fun!
Fron tries to keep the material interesting by getting the class really involved. The lectures are straight-forward and if you take decent notes you can do alright on the take-home exams, but they're still a pain, as are the papers. He's a bit of a tough grader, but if you put in some effort you'll get at least a B.
His "mid-term" for SJLA was ridiculous. Showed it to a friend who had a Ph.D. in Philosophy and he said aloud that the mid-term was on the level of Master's or Ph.D. students. Funny teacher though and very approachable.
Makes philosophy very interesting. Class is informative and discussion is encouraged. A few papers and take-home assignments which are all fair as long as you do what he asks for
Fron, pshhhhht! Legend! It's as simple as that
Fron is a total boss. Looked forward to his class every day. A lot of fun but also informative. 3 take-home exams and 4 essays. He grades the exams a little strictly, so make sure you write as much as you can squeeze out, but he grades the essays really easy, so they're not a problem. Overall, extremely solid and fun teacher. Recommended
Tough grader on Essays and take home exams, BUT he will let you resubmit essays to boost your grade. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. Very funny and deep lectures. Overall a really good experience.
Fron is the best teacher ever. Readings every night but not too bad. Great guy. Tests are take home essays
Readings almost every night because of pop quizzes but you're allowed to use your notes for them. A little bit of a tough grader on essays (you have a lot of them) but allows you to rewrite them for a better grade. Had pop quizzes, midterm essay, regular essays, and debates, but an overall easy and fair class. Lectures are interesting and engaging!
Great teacher. Reading every night. Chance of quiz next class. Allowed to use notes on quiz. No tests in class. Take-home tests as essays. Regular essays. Tough grader. Can discuss essays with groups. Rewrites on essays for better grade. Final as a take home test, similar to other exams. Made the class fun. Would recommend. Make sure to read. Work.
Smart, funny, insightful, and energetic. I had an amazing time during each class; lot of great discussions and personality tests. Daily readings, usually a 5 question, open note quiz the next class. He grades EXTREMELY tough on essays (you write 4 essay assignments and 3 essay tests from what I remember). NOT an easy A, but a fun class nonetheless.
Father Ron (Fron) is absolutely amazing. With his SJLA class, there are reading for every time we meet where sometimes there would be a pop-quiz. We could use our notes. Take home midterm and final. A few essays, and for "larger" assignments he encourages us to work in groups.
Fron is one of the best professors Philosophy professors. His lectures are entertaining and he has such a great personality. He does assign a lot of reading, and there's an open notes reading check almost every class (5 questions). But, all his tests are take home and you can do them in a group. In the end, he's an easy grader and approachable.
Overall, the class is manageable. However, you spend most of the class taking personality quizzes and very vague notes but end up getting assigned lengthy, detailed papers. If you can manage to teach yourself the material from the textbook you will be fine.
Father Ron's classes are extremely entertaining. He makes sure the class is always engaged using humor and personality quizzes, but you do have to read a lot yourself, with short open-notebook quizzes almost every class. Although the essays can be hard, I would definitely take him again.
The rating two spots below me hit the nail on the head. You spend most of the class screwing around and taking goofy personality tests, but then get assigned extremely specific essays that he grades pretty unfairly on. Don't get me wrong, he's hilarious and knows his stuff. But I can't say I got any value out of this class.
Fron is the man! Though I dropped SJLA after the first semester, he is truly a joy to have! 3/4 essays, 3 take-home exams, and some quizzes on readings that are super easy if you just write the definitions and whats in italics! Dont be afraid to speak up in class and be your quirky self. He likes weird!
If you are looking for a serious and thought provoking Philosophy class this isn't it, but this class is a riot and Fron's a gem. His tests and papers are a fairly time consuming but they aren't difficult. His class is such a good time and a great place to meet friends. There is no better way to bond with strangers than at a Father Ron study sesh.
Class was always super engaging and fun, but not always the most educational. Overall a great and fun professor.
Fron's class is enjoyable, but the assignments are tough. He grades specifically to what his own views are which is tough in an ethics class because there could be multiple right answers in how you view the situation. He is not very approachable for questions.
The class is fun and engaging, but not very thought provoking. His classes on "tough topics" are pretty cringey but he's a good guy overall. None of his exams are in person and his essays aren't graded too hard. You don't really need to take notes in his class since he posts the important information after class.
Fron was funny, and being in class was always fun. However, his grading system was unfair. For essays, you had to write the same ideas he had or you would get an A-/ B+. The same went for his take-home exams. But, for exams, he would grade you compared to his favorite student. If you hadn't worked with them you would lose lots of points.
Fron is a really great guy! You spend most class time goofing around, and it's a much appreciated break in a busy day. There are some readings with short quizzes, but if you've read you'll be fine. Tests are take-home and graded a bit harsh since he is looking for specific things, but not too bad. Essays are easy.
Funny guy but classes were not always the most educational. He usually hands out free As on essays but is pretty harsh when it came to exams (all online). Expect readings at least twice a week and pop quizzes. Don't sit in the front unless you want to get constantly picked on. He posts the notes online so you don't really have to take class notes.
Father Ron definitely makes you think. His classes only consist of pop quizzes and discussions. Outside of class there was quite a few papers and writing prompt exams, which were quite difficult to get an A on. If you want an A in this class, you really have to be dedicated to putting a lot of work in.
Do not take this class if you are not a liberal. He grades all of your essays based off your opinion. If he does not agree with you, he will take points off even if you back your opinion with research. He makes class interesting but I would never take him again.
He can be very offensive. Most of his lectures consist of personality quizzes with little content. Has 5 question quizzes on 12 readings throughout the semester (open note). He looks for very specific words in essays/exams which are hard to figure out. Usually has a minimum grade he will give (you will get an A- or higher on the second essay)
Fron is one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. His lectures are usually skippable but they're so entertaining you won't want to miss them. He's a tough grader but all exams are take-home and he encourages students to work together. Very accessible during office hours if you need help (or just want to talk to him.) Take him if you can!
Fron is the goat. His classes were funny, interactive, and a joy to attend. Most days there will be a quiz on the assigned reading. You can have notes for these. For his papers, it's also important that you use his online notes.
Fron is a great guy who wants you to feel welcomed. His sense of humor truly makes lectures great. 5 pt quizzes almost daily on textbook readings but super easy and open notes. Genuinely not a difficult class, though he can be a harsh grader. Put in the time, thought, and effort and you'll do great in his class. Highly recommend Fron to everyone.
If you're looking to laugh, take personality quizzes, and retain maybe 2-3 facts about a handful of philosophers, take this class. If you're actually looking to learn about philosophy, maybe look elsewhere. Very particular/unclear about grading. Spit back at him what he lectures/includes in online notes and you'll do well.
Father Ron is extremely entertaining. Weekly readings and quizzes, and a few take-home exams which were papers. Those could get a bit difficult, so be sure to take notes on what he says in class. He likes it when you participate!!
Very interesting and enjoyable class, read the rubrics for assignments!
He never tells you want he really wants and will take off points without explaining exactly why. There's a lot of quizzes based on readings in the class, but they're usually on random details. Don't sit near the front of the room unless you want to get hit. He'll also probably make fun of you no matter what you do.
This professor is condescending and fosters a one-sided learning environment. Opposing views are dismissed, and assignments must align with his beliefs to avoid unfair point deductions. Feedback is snarky comments rather than constructive criticism. Overall, the approach undermines the learning experience, making the class not recommended at all.
Do not sit in the front unless you want to be constantly heckled! His grading system is super unclear and biased toward his views. His feedback on assignments is nearly impossible to follow and passive-aggressive.
I would not take Ron again. His grading is very confusing, so you never really know what your final grade will be. Additionally, he always tends to make degrading comments on the papers you write, even when you try your best with the content. Also, don't sit in front because he will pick on you in class every time.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had at Scranton. The first paper you write in there is about your values and make sure you sound democratic cause if you aren't he will grade you accordingly. I should have never told him I'm republican because he will grade you based on your views and if they're different then his good luck.
he's a chill guy
Father Ron was not a good professor. On exams, if you do not write exactly what he wants you to say, he will take points off for no reason. He assigns pop quizzes and will ask the most random questions about useless information. He will make fun of you if you do not share his religious or political beliefs. His class felt like a waste of time.
