Great teacher, funny and enjoyable
Pierno was NOT a good teacher i don't know why anyone would hire him to be the head of the Accounting department. seriously, don't take from him unless you want to really hate accounting at the end of his class! he does NOT TEACH WELL!!!
He was so cool...he always talked about wine and crap and being italian...but his accounting methods sucked...im a good student...im even in the honors program..i passed with a B minus..and no thanks to his class...i even went everyday
I liked him, he made the class enjoyable. This class is always going to be tough no matter what teacher you take but at least he'll make you laugh!
I really didn't like the way he taught the class. He made everybody buy the "student note-taking guide" when it's basically his powerpoint lectures on paper. He's a nice guy, but just such a horrible teacher.
The class is extremely hard! he helped me a lot with all the work. this is definately a class that you have to ask questions and do the work! he is a very patient person and will help anyone that is looking for help. he writes the exams!
Ron is a very thorough teacher. On the first day he tells everyone to do the homework that he assigns and come to class and you will do well. I did just that and finished with a high B. Would have been an A, but it was my fault.
Great professor, I would definately take him again! Although the class itself was hard, he made it a whole lot of fun. I would definately take him again!
liked to babble about everything but what he was being paid to teach. I did learn that our college has a massage course, but i still can't tell you the difference between a debit and a credit!!!
The only class I ever had to get a tutor for...the guy explained more about French wine then he did about Accounting. Thank God those days are over...
The class is hard, but he is a great teacher. He explains things well and makes the class fun!
loved everything about him. really good teacher and keeps you interested-most of the time.
Fun guy, but awful teacher. He knows his stuff, but he throws it in with stories about wine and bugs in his scalp. He just doesn't teach.
I loved the class! Tries his best to help in and out of class. He knows his stuff and he's really cool...and he's kinda cute.
Ron tries to come off as a nice guy but he's pretty much a jerk. Worse yet, he is a terrible teacher. Actually, teacher isn't the right word because he doesn't teach. But I do know the differences between red and whiteb wines!
I can't believe this school allows this guy to teach students. He is a terrible teacher and I learned absolutely nothing from him. Avoid at all costs.
Great teacher all around. He'll teach you everything you need to know in a clear manner but don't expect him to babysit you. You should expect to do work on your own and keep up with the material covered in class. Tough class overall but he keeps it fun.
Even though I went to every class, and did most of the homework, I still got a D in the class. Obviously his teaching is not very effective, because I went in and CAME OUT of the first 2 tests feeling confident about my answers and getting D's on both. Find someone else if you can!
Easy to talk to. Great sense of humor and helped with all my problems!
Very good professor. He made the class fun! He includes personal experiences to come down to our level. You have to read the text and do the homework, the exams are hard...but his grading policy is helpful. I ended with an A-. Great teacher and "HOT"!
Tests are harder than he says. READ THE BOOK!!! Get an A on the TAX project and you are good. Last test is HELL!
Excellent teacher, anyone who says he's not lacks any intelligence whatsoever.
This guy was fun to hang out with and such (saw him out at the bars/clubs with students), ... but he's not a great teacher. He's also got some issues with favortism (one of my classmates dated him during the semester, and she got an A in his class, yet failed most other classes). I'd stay away from him at all costs.
I just remember thinking this teacher was bad. If you knew him and was his buddy you'd do well. If you were like me and didn't want to be is Best Friend Forever, but came to class everyday and even studied you'd probably still do awful and hate the idiot. He needs to grow up.
Accounting is a hard class any way you look at it. He is a great professor if you pay attention but you have to be willing to work. He is always available for extra help and I suggest Claudia Rueda as a TA...she's the best by far
Difficult class but I thought he was a decent teacher. Class is very objective although his tests are a bit tricky. Only 3 tests though so you basically need an A on all three to get an A in the class!
Tough intro subject matter, Pierno explains it well and in detail. Jokes around a lot. Talks about life, England, and wine a lot. Knows his stuff. Very enthusiastic. Great prof considering class size (over 100 in mine). Take him!!
i dont care what anyone else says its never a good idea to take a class in which the teacher wrote the text book. i took this class twice and my second professor is loads better. Pierno is extremely strict on all his policies and is there for himself NOT for the STUDENTS! avoid him at all costs. hes very full of himself. NO NO NO
This professor was the worst teacher for accounting. If you are not blond and quite forget it you are getting an (F). This class is very hard, if you fail on test since there is only 3 you fail the class.
This was favorite professor from all the past classes that I have taken. He made accounting very interesting with all of his stories and I was always looking forward to the next class. Eventhough it is a challenging subject, you just have to go to class. I definately considered changing my major to accounting after I took his class.
Ask him about the Bug Story!
Hardest class I've taken at FSU. However, he makes the subject interesting. READ BEFORE GOING TO CLASS. He makes you feel stupid if you don't know what you're talking about. Gets to know all his students which is great. He is a fun teacher. Quite a character
HARD TAX MATERIAL CALLS FOR A PROFESSORS MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF HELP AND PIERNO DOES NOT ALLOW THAT TO EVERY STUDENT IN HIS CLASSES. MUST DO WORK EVERYDAY AND KEEP ON MATERIAL BY YOURSELF BECAUSE CLASS LECTURES, OFFICE HOURS, AND PIERNO DO NOT ALLOW FOR AMPLE TIME FOR HELP WITH TAX MATERIAL.
STAY AWAY..I didn't want to enter my major late, so I went against what everyone said, and tried risking taking him, BIG MISTAKE, I am now going to have to drop the class and retake it next semester. AVOID him at ALL costs, UNLESS you are able to teach yourself and don't need a teacher. NICE GUY BUT HE JUST CANT TEACH!!!
worst teacher ever!he doesn't explain anything, and basically skims through his slide show telling you to read it on your own. If you don't already know anything about accounting I would definetly recommend another teacher.
Basically you need to teach yourself the whole course. Class is the biggest waste of time because all he does is try to make jokes. The test are hard as hell and the failure rate of this class is 60%. You better me ready to pop pills and study all week for this guys test.
Well seeing as to how I had no other choice, BUT Ron, he really wasn't that bad. I got a C, but financial really isn't an "easy" course for most. He had his weird moments, and talked about wine A LOT. It could have been much worse though.
if you went to class and did the homework, the class was a lot easier. This isn't a class you can slack off in. Ron was wierd, but pretty good, go to ressistaton and you'll do fine.
do NOT take this guy unless you know how to teach yourself everything about financial accounting. he talks about retiring more than anything, which made me wonder why he was still there. he seems like a nice guy, but teaching is NOT his thing. I had to see a tutor twice a week. I am generally a straight A student and i received my first F.
ron was nuts. he talked about wine a lot, and had too many 4 second breaks. if you want to do well, you HAVE to read the book. I failed the first two tests and got a 96 on the final all bc i finally read the book.
The tests were easy (very straightforward) once you understood the material, which shouldnt require more than attending classes (AND recitation!) and reading the textbook. funny guy, knows lots about wine and accounting. go to class. i got an A with average effort. buy the target pack and textbook. you do have to study to do well in this class
well, if you like wine than he's the teacher for you, i cant bad mouth him cuz he is funny and helpful if you see him one on one but you need to study and basically learn this class yourself, but if you work that way, than this guy is pretty cool
Awful teacher. He has ADD, he rambles, he goes on tangents, he has personal conversations with students during class time, he wastes SO much time during class that is completely unnecessary. I dont pay the university to go to class to have my time wasted. He is arrogant and not helpful. Plus he is disgusting to look at.
simply put: he doesn't teach. you have to teach yourself.
This guy was horrible on top of the stuff the people before me said the resource we used for class is a book he "wrote" that consists completely of powerpoint slides. this guy does not teach and skips through everything and tells you to go back later. Recitation was a joke and the TA was horrible also.
he doesnt teach. class is a waste of time. i wish i would have taken another teacher so i could actually learn something. he is a JOKE!!
Terrible. I dont understand why FSU employs this guy when this is such an important class for business majors. He is absolutely useless when it comes to retaining anything in class. Very frustrating and annoying
Worst teacher i have had thus far at FSU. Don't bother going to class. I didn't go before the first test and got a 62.5 and I went before the second test and got a 65. Clearly not worth going for an extra 2.5 points. If you have to take the class, take it with somebody who cares, not somebody who wants to be your friend and chat and talk about wine
Going to lectures is a waste of time. Pretty much cross your fingers, hope for a good TA, and go to recitation.
Don't listen to the comments below me. Pierno is a great teacher. This is a hard class in general, so there are going to be a lot of people that are going to blame the teacher. Take Pierno! He makes accounting fun and you learn a lot. Read the Textbook, go to Tutoring zone, and study. This class takes a lot of hard work, so if you do that A!!
Useless teacher, wastes 50% of the class talking about random stuff and wine or chatting with students. Speeds through his slides so that one basically has to study all the material on their own. A nice individual but a horrific teacher.
Ron is a great teacher. For all the other reviewers, it is financial accounting, it is not supposed to be easy. If you go to class and listen to his examples, read the book, and study a decent amount you'll do fine. Going to recitation is also key to sucess. He makes class interesting and engages students interests.
Hard class. I had to go to a tutor so I'd know what to expect on the test. He's a nice guy, but he wastes a lot of time goofing around when I'd rather he give us more practice problems.
Horrible. Take someone else. Class is not hard, just expect to teach yourself. Class would have been better if we went to the TA's class 3 days a week instead. Grade is composed of only 3 tests. First math class taken witn no hw pts. or quizes.
Ron is a fun teacher. However he does seem to get a little off sometimes and kind of has the attitude that accounting is simple. sit in the front, he has tons of class interaction. READ THE BOOK AND DO THE SUGGESTED HOMEWORK PROBLEMS. that's the only way to get what the hell is going on in that class. TUTORING ZONE also helps a TON!!!! good luck
If you are naturally astute and have a good memory, this class is a BREEZE. I didn't go to class at all.. I went to TutoringZone, learned everything in the packet, did a few practice problems, got good grades on the VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD multiple choice tests. It really comes down to how good you're memory is, & how well you can memorize concepts.
only three grades for the entire semester (including final). he is a terrible teacher. what everyone else says is true.. he talks about wine a lot and provides little insight into accounting. attending class was not helpful and i went to every single one. go to recitation and get help from the TA's.. they explain things better
Loves wine, and likes to call out students during class. Everything you learn is in recitation, his notebook (that you can buy) and the book. Terrible grading scale. 89.99 is a B+. I got an 89.8 and didn't give me the time of day. Very wired guy, his jokes are a bit rediculous.
If possible try to avoid taking him for financial accounting. He strays off topic often, blazes through his notes and embarrasses students that ask questions. Unless you get a great TA this class his class is very difficult to pass without getting a tutor.
Terrible. Loves wine... pretty much his favorite subject. That and random spats with the students. Funny guy... but take someone else for class.
This guy is no good... I just went to TutoringZone and the guy actually made it make sense. I literally understood the material and did great in the class. I don't see how anyone can learn from this guy. Just go to TZ.
Anyone who thinks this class is impossible did not go to class, read the book and do the homework. Nothing is required, but you need to stay with it to do well. If you do all the things above you won't need to cram for the test and you will do well. It all makes sense in the end. Take him!
If you're moderately competent you can easily get a B in this class, regardless of his poor teaching. You have to READ THE BOOK. Every page, every box & side note. If you do that and the assignments you will get an A. The material isn't hard but there is a lot to memorize and it takes practice, so start studying EARLY for the test.
Terrible Professor, what he teaches in class is useless. I don't know how he has a job, he's by far the worst professor I've ever had. One word, tutoringzone.
Pierno is a fine teacher. Don't be scared by the class. It's really not that difficult, you just can't slouch. I took it and got a D because I procrastinate. Tutoring zone can help, but when it comes down to it, all you have to do is read the chapters and do the practice problems and truly understand the the terms and different accounts. Good luck!
A lot of these reviews are just Tutoring Zone advertisements. TZ is ok, but honestly if you read the book and do the assigned problems you'll get an A. I never went to class, just read and practiced on my own, and everytime I went to TZ I already knew everything he was teaching/ could do their problems. Good for extra practice I guess
Please don't take him. He's egotistical and doesn't teach anything.TA's aren't helpful either. You basically pay FSU money to learn acct, but end up teaching yourself. The guy wastes so much time talking about nothing and when he could be teaching the subject
Not a good professor but since he is the only one available be prepared to teach yourself! Guy talks about nothing but "Ron's Wine Shop"..who cares? So buy the book and teach yourself. GOOD LUCK!!
Do not listen to all of these comments. Pierno is a good teacher and if you go to class and do the assignments the tests are easy. There is nothing on the test that he doesn't cover in class and he makes an effort to get to know everyone and make sure they understand what he is teaching. All the hype about this class is unnecessary. Do the work.
as long as you haven't been lobotomized in the past 3 years you will be fine. Everyone who did bad either 1. didn't study or 2. Needs to leave the COB
Expect to teach yourself. He wastes time and is annoying. Good luck....
He is actually not as bad of a teacher as everyone says he is.He covers all the material that is on the test but its hard to learn it unless you use the book/TZ. just give yourself plenty of time to study before the test and you should do alright, i got a 91 on the first test. dont buy the book use TZ, its much cheaper.
Some people don't know what they are talking about. I'm in honors college with a 4.0 and this is going to be the first class that I've gotten a B in.The book doesn't half half of the stuff he puts on the tests, and trust me, I've read the book religiously. Do your GPA a favor and take this class at a different university.
total joke of a professor. all he talks about is wine. class is pointless. study book problems extensively if you want to do well in class
This class has a 40% failure rate for a reason, the guy is a horrible teacher. I don't know what to tell you except that you'll pretty much need to teach yourself everything. Good luck.
in class, he uses wine shop examples which are easy but then the test questions are a lot harder. take it over the summer. oh, and his fail rate is higher than 40% now and he prides himself on it.
Unfortunately, I'm one of the 60% failing rate that had to retake this course. Unless you have a strong background in accounting already, this is going to be an extremely difficult class. Doing the homework (do not procrastinate) and TutoringZone is a MUST. Work out all problems on your own several times and you should be fine.
No point of going to class. Just go to TZ. Got my first and only B in college in this class. Do his practice problems a lot and you should be ok. If you wait to the last minute to study you might be in trouble. Material isn't hard to comprehend, just extremely easy to make mistakes. Not very fond of the professor, but study and you should be ok.
Avoid like the plague - take the class during summer. All finals are cumulative and it's insanely hard. Got a 52 on the final!
Although he is not exactly the most helpful professor in class, Ron Pierno is extremely funny and his class was enjoyable. The material is not difficult to teach yourself so I learned the majority of it on my own. The TA's help a lot in recitation so make sure to go to that.
Terrible. Interrupts lectures which are already loosely held together with irrelevant questions about, for instance, the meaning of Spanish phrases or the capital of Kansas. I get perfect scores in upper-division math classes, and found his class difficult because of his instruction. He shouldn't be employed at a university since he can't type.
Took this class thinking I would like accounting, failed the first two (out of three) tests. I finished and understood all the online hw problems and attended every lecture and TA friday session. Ron is a joke and now I have to retake this class. STAY AWAY! I now hate accounting, he ruined it for me.
Honestly, this is the worst class I've ever taken. I didn't even fail the class, I got a B, but it was the hardest earned B of my life. He's an accountant teaching an accounting class, not a teacher teacher teaching accounting. His lectures are full of tangents that go into his infatuation with wine, which does NOT help you at ALL in the class. I do not know why FSU has him teaching this class every semester. This is coming from a 3.97 honors student (well not 3.97 anymore) who tried his hardest
A lot of people hate this guy because they failed the class. But it's not because he sucks. He teaches a weeder class. (It's designed to kick out the ones that don't belong) The material he talks about is hard itself. I got a B working my butt off. He's also funny in a weird way. I like him more and more throughout the semester
Going to his class is a joke. Go to EDNYS NOT tutoring zone and youll pass. Tutoring zone teaches like Ron, ednys shows you WHY your doing what your doing so you understand. I failed the first test, stopped going to class, went to Ednys and got an A. This class sucks but you have to take it and you have to take it with Ron.
I have mixed feeling about Dr. Pierno. Some days he taught well and other days not so much. Because of the difficulty of the topic, it's easy to blame Pierno's teaching style for poor grades. But, if you study, understand the homework, and use your TA and/or something like TutoringZone, it is possible to pass. I'm a film student and I got an A-.
Hardest class I've ever taken at FSU. Pierno's quality of teaching is poo and the exams are extremely difficult. Just go to the TA's HW sessions and use other resources like TZ to pass. BTW the practice exam questions online have nothing to do with the exam questions so don't bother reviewing those. Don't underestimate this course, or u will fail.
Pierno literally is the worst teacher I've ever had. Yeah it's a hard class but he does absolutely nothing for you. He has an obsession with wine, thinks he's funnier than he is, and talks way too fast. I contemplated punching him but decided to just not go to class anymore. Go to your t.a and tutoring zone if you want to have any chance to pass
Smart guy who actually cares about his students, tough class.
Lets face it this class is not the easiest in the world but if you go to class, do the homework, and do your best you will GET a B or higher! Ron is always in his office as are his TA's if you have any questions or problems you need help wit... I was nervous about this class but Im happy I took it... second exam tomorrow and im not worried at all!
I heard horrible things prior to coming into this class. I am not someone who is good at math and got a C in college algebra but his class is not half as bad as these ratings say. I got a 97 on the second exam and a B on the first and i go to class half the time. literally, do his homework problems and THATS ALL IT TAKES!
This class has absolutely been a nightmare. The lectures are not helpful, the tests are worded in the most ridiculous ways, and the TAs provide the most minimal help I have ever experienced in an academic setting. If you can, avoid taking this class. Learn accounting from someone else. Again, do not take this class.
GREAT professor! If you can appreciate his sense of humor you should like him too. He is very focused and stays on topic in class, using every minute. Despite the large class size, he is very good about answering individual questions. However, I found the homework sessions (which are not required) to be the most helpful in learning the material.
Do yourself a favor and take this class somewhere else. Pierno is the example par excellence of bad teaching. Your advisor will tell you that you "won't be well prepared" if you take ACG2021 elsewhere, but trust me, I'm pretty sure you can't do much worse than this guy. If you can't take it somewhere else, then brace yourself for a rough semester.
Ron is a great teacher. Sure the material isn't the easiest, but he does a good job of telling you what you need to know for the 3 exams. The material isn't hard, its just different. If you do the homework each week, and ask questions, you will be fine. I got A's on all 3 tests and I never had to pull an "all-nighter" to do so.
second time taking him.... second time failing. *sigh* looks like summer classes...
The class itself is not very hard.Pierno makes the class harder than it is, but truthfully all you need to do is understand the early material and you should get at least a b.I went to every class before the first test and got a low b. Then I never went to class again, learned the material on my own(wiley plus)and got an 88,and a 90 on next 2 exams
A class that you honestly choose the difficulty of yourself. You don't really NEED to go to class, but you do 100% NEED to go to the recitations. EVERYTHING you learn will be in the recitations. Pierno gets a bad rap but he's not a bad teacher, he just can't get across what he needs to in the time frame and to that many people. BUY THE BOOK!!!
Good sense of humor in class, decent teacher, but his tests are very misleading compared to what you practice.
When Ron says, "To learn Accounting is like learning another language" he is right. However, that should not scare you! Ron is a great teacher and willing to help his students. Also, GO TO CLASS AND RECITATIONS! You will not pass the class if you skip. If you the study the note guide, HW, and learn the material you will get an A in his class.
Accounting is not something everyone is going to be great at. Going to class will help you understand the material. Doing the homework reinforces that and reading the book definitely helps. Tests are written so that you really are tested on if you fully get it. Don't be lazy, get help from the TAs and you'll be fine. I got an A- with no problem.
Do you want to learn about wine? Go to his class. Do you want to learn accounting and pass the exams? Go to the recitations that are taugh by random grad students who get little credit but teach you the most. This material is best learned in a classroom and not a lecture hall. Also buy the note taking guide not the book.
I actually really enjoyed this class. He did sometimes go on tangents, but he taught the material, although sometimes after recitation. Totally willing to answer any question, even in a class of 500. Didn't buy the notes, but go to class and it's not a problem. Book is available at the library. If you get a 100 on any test you get a t-shirt.
Only teacher doing ACG2021 at FSU. Take this class at your community college back home, DO IT. I was an accounting major but got a C, so I had to switch out or retake the class. Some may think that I'm just complaining, but that was my first C since middle school when I got a C in PE, so, I do believe he is a bad teacher. Only talks about wine.
Idk how people dont do well. Just do practice problems and go to class. i got a 100 on the 1st exam
This class IS confusing, but he is not as bad as people make him seem. You just have to put the effort in reading, doing homework problems, and asking questions if you have any.
He is a fantastic teacher for ACG2021. I got 100% on the first exam just by paying attention in class. The recitation helps if you don't understand the H/W but if you do it's probably unnecessary b/c all they do in mine is H/W qs. He's passionate about the subject and it helps learning from someone who doesn't deliver the lecture in monotone.
The truth of the matter is only 8% of people get A's and only 20% get B's. About 40% of people fail this class. It's extremely confusing and Ron's failure at being able to teach for five straight minutes does not help. You're basically supposed to teach yourself the material and you have to find tutors to help out. Worst pre-business class at FSU.
Going to his classes almost make things more confusing then they have to be. Most failed class at FSU and primarily because of him as a teacher. If you want to pass this class you need to do all the work yourself, don't count on learning much from Pierno
His lectures consist of him rushing through slides in little detail. I went to every class before first test and did bad so I went to tutoring and did better on the next two. Final grade is two tests and a final exam, my grade was a 79.95 and he gave me a C. Tutoring taught me more than him in a matter of hours compared to his whole class semester.
Going to class wil not do anything for you. Tutoring Zone or Edny is all you need to pass this class. I never went to class and started studying the Edny packets the day of the tests and made a B+
By far the worst teacher I have ever had, not just at FSU but in my entire life. He is an accountant teaching accounting. I went to tutoring zone and learned more in that one night than I had from Pierno during the entire semester. This is the first class I have ever had to drop. DO NOT TAKE HIM. take this class any where else!
READ. THE. BOOK. do the homework, go to the weekly recitations, but don't wait to study! I had to take it twice, 2nd time I did better by NOT going to class. Nice man, but you NEED to put in the work to pass.
His lecture is clear and useful for your entire life.
Let's just say you'll learn more from your TA or tutors than Pierno. He'll just rant on about wine and other unnecessary things when he should just be teaching. This course was one of the toughest classes I have ever taken in my school life, so I would advise to NOT take this class unless you just go to tutoring.
Welcome to college. Ron is a college professor. He won't hold your hand, and if you really don't put in an effort, he doesn't care what kind of grade you get. This is not a difficult class if you put in the time outside of the lecture to teach yourself the material.
Very hard class, has a 1/3 fail rate. You HAVE to put in the work outside of class, but once you get the material you get it. TAs are very helpful, Pierno is not the best teacher, but I really liked him. You do need the textbook and workbook. DO THE HOMEWORK, sometimes reading the chapter confuses you more so try to go off just the notes if you can
Class is not impossible it is just hard. It is the time in your career when you just need to step up and learn how to study. Got a 100 in the class. Did not go to a single class. Do your work and you will be fine. Plenty of people pass this class. Pierno is always willing to help too. He isn't bad at all.
This class really isn't as bad as you all make it seem. Problem is, a lot of people are in easy majors, and this is the first class that makes them actually have to think. Go to tutoring zone, do some practice problems, and you won't even have to sweat for an A. Much easier than calculus, and exactly what I'd expect out of an "intro" course.
Worse teacher I have ever had.
This guy is just awful. You will need to learn a lot on your own. I recommend taking it over the summer or using EDNY or Tutoringzone
Only financial accounting teacher you can take at fsu. He is horrible, uses himself and a wine shop for all his examples. Don't bother going to class, Edny is the only reason I passed this class
Only teacher who teaches ACG2021. Horrherible Teacher, When asking for help/clarification he would insult you and make you feel stupid. Says his tests are "easy" and You must not be paying attention or trying hard if you don't do well. But thats a total Lie! If you want to pass Use tutoring zone (Best advice I ever got!)!!!
worse teacher EVER >_< He is a smart man and probably a great professional but overall a terrible teacher that does not know how to demonstrate topics of acct to students. Only 3 tests and NO extra credit. Your better off taking this at a community college
Honestly makes accounting harder than it really is. I am surprised anyone gets anything out of this class. I have had some really aweful professors before but this guy tops the list. My advice read the book till your eyes bleed and do the homework till your hand cramps up.
got my first exam tommorow, Yeah I have no idea what to expect
I just took the first exam last night and got a 90. With that being said, nothing I learned was really from class. The problems done in class are much more simple than the test, and the homework is different in format and wording. I'd recommend going to some kind of outside tutoring. I studied hard and got an A- so its doable. Just have to work!
I am currently in this course and it is not as difficult as everyone says it is. Do the practice problems just about every night and go to class, you should get an A or B.
This is not an easy class, but people on here are exaggerating the difficulty. You definitely need to put in a good amount of time studying to do well. Make sure to go to lecture and do all the homework. I used Study Edge to review before each exam and it helped immensely. Put some time into studying and you'll do fine
horrible teacher. tests are way harder than the homework he assigns. you're going to need t o get a tutor
Class is hard. Do Not go to class. I got a 94 on final and did not attend one class. Go to Edny DO NOT GO to TZ. Edny got me an A in this class. His packets are exactly what the exams are like.
This class isn't as hard as you guys make it seem. Go to class, do the homework, and you'll do fine. If you don't do the homework, its easy to fail. Ron does get off-topic at times, but I liked his sense of humor. Ron carI got an A- in the course.
This class isn't as bad as people say. Go to class, do the homework, and you'll be fine. Don't do the homework, and it's easy to fail. Ron does get off-topic at times, but I liked his sense of humor. Ron cares if you care. I got an A- in the course without a tutor. Just do the work!
Pierno is hands down the worst teacher I've had at Florida State. No one goes to class out of 400 kids and he is rude when you try to see him outside of class. If you do the homework you'll be ok. My favorite quote from him after the first test, "there are 800 total students, about 230 goes A's or B's everyone else lower, that's pretty good"
I went to almost every class but didn't learn much from him. Go to EDNY he taught me everything i needed to know to pass. Final exam counts double and got a B on it. MAKE SURE you do the HMWK assigned, it does help. Ron has a good sense of humor and willing to help. Starburst candy is his way of communication to you. Also learned alot about wine.
Will not round your grade or boost it all if your life depended on it. Don't go to class it doesn't help. The questions in the book will help you understand the material but will not help with the tests. The tests are super tricky..
I got a B- in this class and it was the hardest B- I ever worked for and I have a 3.7 GPA. Went to Tutoring Zone religiously and also heard Edny helps too...DONT go to class or read the book just do the homework problems assigned. 2 tests and a Final. His test are VERY tricky and you have no room to write. Hard class but passable...
People who say this class is hard are just too lazy to become an adult and actually do the work. It is very simple. Go to every single class no matter what, do ALL the homework and more, read every chapter until you fully understand it, then you have a high chance of a B but more likely an A. Accounting is not bad, just gotta work. Dont be lazy.
Guys..it's college, work hard and it won't be that bad. You won't get a grade handed to you, you will have to work but it's not impossible, just do the homework, and he pulls the questions from there.
I never attended class and still received an A- in the class. The Key to this course is putting in the time. Read every single chapter and do the problems assigned. Study at least 3 night before the test and you're golden. Dont let the word "accounting" scare you.
Honestly, not bad. The people who fail and do poorly do not study properly. Theres no reason you should do bad in class if you genuinely TRY and study. The material isnt impossible. The test are VERY FAIR. I got an A...but no one should get below a C or B if they put in honest effort. If you dont get it go to TZ or edny, but you still have to STUDY
Excellent Professor. The people who fail are those who do not read th book and do the homework. If you ask questions and do not til the last minute to study, this class is a piece of cake. One does not have to come to class daily to pass, just study. Grading is based off exams only.
This class is difficult. The only grades come from 2 exams and the final - which can replace your lowest exam grade. Attendance is not mandatory but helpful. Homework is the key to this class, meaning you need the book. Tutoring also helps. Practice practice practice. I passed with a B and am satisfied with that.It is difficult but not impossible.
Pierno is not a great professor. Material is not hard but the tests are next to impossible for someone who is not a good test taker. Literally he says he tries to "trick us" in the exam. I did all the homeworks and went to tutoring zone and studied and still got a terrible grade. He gives you no space to work on the paper so that sucks too
I think Ron was a great professor. Most students seem to be intimidated by professors for whatever reason and they don't ask for help. I went to most classes, did the review problems and went to the recessions on fridays and received an A. If you don't like his teaching styles the TAs are a great help.
The worst professor I've had so far. He's very arrogant and all he does is read off the slides. The material is very easy to comprehend but he actually creates trick questions for the exam. Don't bother buying the materials. Especially his note taking guide. Don't waste time going to his class, go to Tutoring Zone
This class is not easy and you have to be prepared to teach yourself. Going to class is pointless, I recommend just going to tutoringzone before every exam and knowing everything in their packet, along with reading through his slides and doing all the related practice problems in the book.
hes a pretty good teacher and he recognizes the people who sit in the front and participate. its definitely a tough class. hes not that helpful unless you talk to him in his office hours maybe. i can see why a lot of people don't like him, but if you go to all the classes and study you'll do fine.
GO TO CLASS. Many people end up failing and having to retake this class. Yes, Pierno is not very helpful and doesn't give many guidelines of what to study on the test, but if you go to the lab and the class and do the hw you can surely get an A. To study I would outline chapters and study edge helped too!
This class is definitely not easy and he isn't very helpful when it comes to doing practice problems or explaining how to do the problems. TZ really helped me understand the material. Before the exams he does a review problem but doesn't tell you what to study to prepare which is frustrating. Friday recitations are very helpful.
This class is definitely not easy and he isn't helpful at all. Before tests he doesn't review information or tell you what to study which makes it hard for the first test. He doesn't go into detail or show how to do the problems. He often rambles about things other than accounting. TZ is very helpful and so is recitation on fridays.
Go to class once in a blue moon and go to Study Edge and Tutoring Zone whenever offered. That was the hardest grade I worked for. Makes a moderate class hard. I only went class to get a parking space in the morning and it was too cold to stay in the car
VERY TOUGH!!!!! You'll need to do at least an hour or two of work per day. Be prepared for the most difficult teacher to learn from at FSU
By far the hardest class iv taken so far, along with the worst teacher. From the first day of class he expectes you to have read the first couple of chapters in the book. To get a good grade: go to ALL TZ sessions, go to TA reviews, do all the HW, and begin studying for exams with like 3 weeks in advance.
This class was super challenging but STUDY EDGE made it a lot easier!
He isn't clear in his lectures and his tests are extremely tough and do not match up with the Wiley homework problems at all!!!!
This professor should not even be considered a professor. Yes, he may know all the material like the back of his hand, but when it comes to him teaching it, it's like he has NO idea how to articulate it. The tests are nothing like the homework he assigns, and the lectures don't even help. And when you try to go to him for help, he makes you feel like you're not even worthy of taking the class. I would suggest taking this class at TCC if you have any other choice.
I am midway through the semester taking this class, and its killing me. The material IS NOT difficult by any means. The problem with this class lies completely with Pierno. His lectures are terrible and his tests are HARD. Do the reading yourself, utilize TZ and study edge and be prepared to put in a lot more work than is needed.
In order to pass this class you MUST read the textbook. I have thoroughly read every chapter, and I manage to get A's on the exam... He assumes that you have read the textbook in his lectures.
I would not have passed this class without the help of Study Edge. The most difficult class I have taken at FSU so far.
Worst professor I've ever had.
Professor Pierno get a bad rap. I thought he was a pretty good teacher. He explicitly states that his lectures are a supplement to the book reading. It makes sense, there is so much information that is covered in the textbooks that he would be unable to cover it all in class. Mostly, he reinforces what he thinks is important and tested on in class.
Pierno is not that bad. Everyone likes to blame him for doing poorly but it really is not his fault. He says the reason why it might seem difficult is because most of it is relatively new- most people have no basis in accounting coming in. He cannot help that. This is a class you have to want to do well in and take initiative... actually attend.
What a Looney Toon. Seriously, this guy is nuts. He is infatuated with wine and brings it up every chance he gets. He probably shouldn't be teaching, but he tries and lectures were usually pretty entertaining. Go to every recitation and review, that's where I learned the majority of the material. Tests are tedious, take you time!
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. He makes material 10x harder than it needs to be.
Ive never worked so hard for anything in my life. Went to tutoring 2x a week & recitation every week & still managed to fall short of a C. Ron doesn't know how to explain material to students who are in an INTRO class. Makes test way harder than needed. If you are not a business major take another teacher or at TCC you'll thank me later
I honestly have never studied so hard for a class only to fall just short of a passing grade. I'm more than distraught. I honestly don't know what I would could have done differently to improve my grade. I studied for hours each week and went to tutoring only to still fail each test.
FIND A TA THAT WORKS FOR YOU. Every recitation is different and tbh you can sit in any of them. That being said, Ron's lectures are legit. Go to them! Also his tests are definitely challenging. The key to passing is to practice the review problems like hell. All in all good guy & modest wine aficionado. Lastly: pay heed to his inspirational quotes!
Take some advice from someone who just took this class and got a 97%. Accounting is not for everyone and it doesn't matter who the professor is because you either get it or you don't. My advice is go to TZ and keep up with the material every week. Also his lectures are pointless and his test are meant to trick you. Get ready to work!!!
He is a terrible teacher. I went to class for the first month and learned nothing. Just read the book and go to the friday sessions with the TAs. Also just study weeks in advance. I studied well over 6 hours for each test and still on came out with a C-.
This class has the hardest tests I've ever taken, however it is possible to get a good grade by using Edny. After the first test i stopped going to the lectures and just used Edny to learn the material. Wilyplus is just busy work and doesn't help prepare you for the test whats so ever.
I would never in my life recommend this teacher to a student. I have never been taught by a worse professor, and this class brought my GPA way down. There is no curves, extra credit, and each test is 30% of your grade.
His tests have a lot of trick questions, although he claims otherwise. Good luck.
Every bad thing you have heard about him is most likely true. He tries to be funny in classes and isn't. Used Study Edge and Edny's, went to every recitation, studied for a week in advance and got a D+. If you aren't an accounting major, take this back home at a community college, if you're an accounting major, good luck. DON'T RECOMMEND THIS MAN.
Let me say this first. I passed this class. Pierno knows what he's talking about because he read the slides. He doesn't elaborate or explain. READ. THE. TEXTBOOK. Go to his lectures if you want, but stay AHEAD. READ the chapter, read his slides, and look at the practice problems. THEN attend class. THEN homework. That'll help you get at least a B.
His tests are difficult and lectures are boring. I went to a ton of tutors to help because I couldn't understand him.
Alright, this man spends more time teaching you about colors, geography, and wine than he does about Financial Accounting. If you take this class, get his notes guide because he speeds through the slideshow so you can't write it down yourself. The homework doesn't look like the tests, and neither do his everyday problems. TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE
don't take this class unless you need too, very very hard and very time consuming. It is well known to be one of the hardest classes. good luck.
Very difficult, especially for an intro course. The exams are 90% of your grade, but the final replaces your lowest exam grade. I would definitely recommend studying a minimum of ten hours for each exam, and make sure you do as many practices problems as possible. It's not impossible to do well, just extremely difficult.
Ron gets a bad reputation because his tests require you to know the material inside and out. However, as an accounting major, I have reaped the benefits of Ron's class, because I know the basics of financial accounting like the back of my hand. Cant cover all the material with two 50 minute classes a week. You need to put in work outside of class
The course itself is challenging, but if you read the book, do the practice homework, go to class & recitations, and study you should be fine. I went to every class, but barely anyone goes to lecture, so do yourself a favor and attend. Don't listen to what others say, he is willing to answer any question and is a great professor!
This guy expects you to learn three different approaches to financial accounting: One that he teaches, one that the homework tests you on, and the actual tests themselves. Ask him a question and he takes up useful class time to make you feel like an idiot. With the wine, the geography, and his songs he plays, you don't get much use out of your time
Hard class but an A is definitely not out of the question. Got a 100 on the first test and a 90 on the second. Tests are hard but definitely passable if you study. Don't study and read? Wont pass. Simple. Do the work and keep an open mind about Pierno he's actually not that bad.
It's accounting people. This is considered a weed-out class. It's all on the students. Ron is a great professor, people just don't give him the credit he deserves because it's not an easy A class. Just know going in it's a lot of material, just stay on top of your work. Ron isn't the deciding factor in your grade. you are. plus he's kinda funny.
Ron is a good guy by all means. This class is just a living hell. You have to put all your attention to it the week prior to the test. And I mean AT LEAST 5 hours of studying daily for the 4 days leading up to the test or so. TAs are all cool and are willing to help but Ron handcuffs them. 1st test: hard, 2nd test: batshat crazy
His class wasn't a bad class. I got a B+ in the class. Pierno can go off in his own world at times which got really annoying but other than that he did answer questions that were asked. Homework is super easy for the most part, but sometimes it doesn't match with the Tests. 2 tests and a final but the final is SUPER Easy until the test. Weird.
The problem with this class is not the information covered, it is Ron. Ron not a good teacher in any way. In class, he just rambles on about nonsense and puts on some show as an attempt to be funny instead of just teaching. Avoid this teacher at all costs
I knew this was going to be tough going into the class, but I can honestly say that I've never studied or put more work into any class before and I still failed! What's on the homework, what Ron teaches, and what's on the test are three different things. He writes all his own exams, and tries to trick you on every question. Would not recommend.
Everything that has been said about this guy is true. Frequently goes off on tangents during class and inflates exam difficulty with tricky question wording. With that said, I got an A- and only went to class twice, so it's not impossible to do well. You just have to be willing to study plenty outside of class and just teach yourself some things.
I know many students who passed just on reading alone. He gets off topic a lot in lectures which will make you turn to the textbook or the TAs. There are only three tests (2 exams and a final) but they are filled with trick questions that he word weirdly to trip you up, which makes them a little tough. I really would not recommend him.
Class is pointless, go to tutoringzone instead! Ron's Tests are killer though, I managed to get an A in his class but the tests would destroy me! Also homework MATTERS !
Terrible professor. Knows the material front and back but has difficulty passing it off to his students. Went to his class every day and took notes. It's a hard subject but he made it more difficult by shooing me off at study hours, ostracizing questions asked as if we should already know, and wasting time during limited lecture time. Do not take.
Went to class twice. Once on the first day and once before a test on accident. He doesn't teach in class. Go to the TA sessions every week, and go to tutoringzone before every test. Also do ALL the homework (this is not a joke). Do these things and you can avoid the wrath of pierno.
For all prospective Pierno students: Don't do it. I poured my heart and soul out studying for this class and ended with a D+, and retook it the following semester and made an A. He's horrible at teaching and makes his tests VERY tricky. The textbook is your best friend. If you must take him, hold the textbook close to you and utilize TZ. Good luck.
As long as you read the book, that is where all the test questions come from. Plus, go to class. He hints at what will be on the test. He may be terrible at explaining, but that is what the book is for. Do the practice questions on Wiley. If you put in the effort, you'll pass.
I did not like Ron at all. The material he tough was tough, so there is no going around that, but he is just not the best teacher. He is kind of annoying and flys by a lot of important topics. He calls out students too and asks you to leave if you are on your phone or even whispering to a friend, in front of 400 students. Try to take Holly Sudano.
Absolutely the worst professor at Florida State University. Students leave the exams crying left and right. He will word every question on his exams to try and trick you into picking the wrong answer. Terrible terrible terrible. Uses same powerpoint slides for the past ten years and keeps changing the dates. Do not take!
People don't give him the credit he deserves. Honestly he is a great professor! He's funny, makes the topic interesting, and clarifies any questions students may have. It's not an easy A class. You actually have to put in effort and do the work. Go to lectures & recitations, read the book, do the homework, and study. You earn the grade you deserve.
and his evident deprivation of essential tools needed to pass the class, Pierno defines the sort of educator that encourages failure for those who don't go to extreme lengths to prepare themselves for the unknown(his tests).
Ron. Is. The. Worst. If you absolutely have to take this class with Ron and at FSU, I feel for you because I had to too. But if you don't, then I highly recommend taking it online or at another school. The only thing I learned from rons class is how obsessed he is with wine. He uses super easy examples but tests you on way more advanced topics.
Wine Talk? Learning some Italian, then this class is for you! Financial Accounting. Does anyone really get the shirts?
I like Ron very much as a person. He's hilarious and you can tell he is very intelligent. However, he has a hard time articulating the material to the class. He is very wishy washy and doesn't give specific enough examples. Going to class has little incentive. You can learn more by going to TA sessions and reading on own. Tests are very difficult.
Terrible teacher. Worst at FSU. I am a straight A student and failed the first test. I never failed a test before until this one. I also never studied harder for a test yet still failed. The homework, notes, and wileyplus do not correspond to the test at all. All he does is talk about wine. He tries to trick you on the tests. DO NOT TAKE.
Think of it like this. Imagine you are taking a language class, something like German I guess, and, after studying German for weeks on end, Pierno decides to give you a test in Japanese.
Ron is the worst professor's that I have ever encountered. His exams are made to trick you. I went into the exams knowing everything but he continously tricks you and makes the exams impossible. AVOID
This class was extremely difficult and Ron Pierno did not make it any easier. He does not care if you pass. He does not care about you at all. His lectures are foggy and hard to comprehend. His tests are nothing like the homework (trust me, I did all of the homework) and they are very confusing. I have never disliked a professor more in my life.
DO NOT TAKE! He's an awful professor/person
Ron is honestly a great guy and truly cares about his class. You get what you put into it. The material is difficult but if you just read the chapters before his lectures, you will be fine. His lectures are short because of time. Do the homework. Read all the chapters thoroughly (before class). You have to understand it conceptually to do good.
Many people say that his tests are tricky but they are not. You just have to make sure to clearly understand the question. He makes you work for it. Read before class, study and understand the material, and go to tutoring if you have to. Btw, the TA's didn't work for me. I went through a lot of youtube videos to understand it well and it worked.
Tests are conceptual. Class lectures are very basic and cover the fundamentals. If you do not do work outside of class to understand the material you will not pass. Got a B in the course and I studied more than I ever have. Rons an average teacher far from a bad one, but he definitely requires outside work and full understanding of material.
I would suggest taking this class online if you can. Going to class is not very useful as he only talks about his made up wineshop example which is useless. His tests are made to TRIP YOU UP. I studied weeks in advance for the exams and got progressively worse grades He is absolutely the worst teacher you will probably ever have
While I'm sure Pierno is a great guy outside of the classroom, he does a horrible job teaching this class. His "explanations" are just him aimlessly talking about nothing. If you are a visual learner and need step-by-step instructions to learn, do not take his class. The tests are made to trick you, and they will, no matter how prepared you are.
I do not recommend
Ron is a good guy but I'd recommend taking this class online. His powerpoint slides are great, however I felt the lectures taught me nothing that I couldn't have learned by reading through the slides on my own. Tests are also a downside to his course- questions seem more intended to trip you up with tricky wording than to evaluate what you know
May be a great person outside of the classroom, but as a professor he is one of the worst, if not the worst I have encountered. His "expectations" are nothing but rambling. I had a medical condition that did not allow me to take the final and he simply disregarded my medical note and failed me, resulting in me having to take the class again.
Ron is honestly a really good professor. Many people who take his class think they'll get all of the material by just looking over the powerpoints, and don't show up to class. Therefore, they don't get all of the material taught in class, and do poorly on exams and take their anger out on him. If you show up to class and TA labs, you'll do fine.
Hardest class I have ever taken. The tests are made to trick you rather than test actual knowledge. I read the entire textbook, took notes, did every practice problem available, and went to TA hours regularly and still did not pass. Retook the class with another teacher and received an A. I knew the material, just not how to take his tests. AVOID.
Hardest class I've ever taken.
Professor is funny & enjoyable but the class is not. Hardest class I've taken at FSU. There are 3 test that each count as 30% of your grade and homework counts as 10%. I've done all the homework, all the practice problems, attended every class and been over all the notes up and down. The test are so hard.
I see how ACG2021 has a 60% fail rate now, after taking this class. One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Financial Accounting's material isn't super difficult but Pierno just doesn't know how to teach. He's a nice guy but you're not going to learn anything from the powerpoints alone. Read the book, do crazy amounts of practice, etc. to pass.
Ron Pierno is an excellent professor. I took him one year ago. It was a privilege getting to take him for ACG 2021 in his last year of teaching before he retired. People complain he is hard and tricky, but the upper level courses are even harder. He showed a lot of support to me and many students who put in the effort and attended class.
I'm surprised he even has a 2.5 rating. I'm an A/B student and I received an F in his class. I heard from friends how "tough" this class was going in - so me being determined, I spent three hours a day in the library and went to every tutoring session. It doesn't even matter that I got every question right when practicing. He TRIES to fail you.
Ron Pierno is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He is aggressive in his delivery and makes an already difficult class impossible.
