field trips are great
great teacher, fun activities!
"The Rup" is a great teacher, a little odd, but none the less fun and informative.
Ron Ruppert is a great teacher. His natural history class is the best BIO class ever! It's so different from any class I have taken. He is SO informed, quirky, but funny :) His methods are great and I have learned a ton.
Ron really knows his materials, and his passion shows in his work. But, be prepared to study and to take long, thorough subjective tests -- they're easy enough, though, as long as you're prepared. Field trips were a blast.
Not only is Ron a great teacher, but its also a plus to have your small lecture teacher be the same guy that lectures to everyone in the large lecture class. Grade reflects time spent in lab. Also this guy is a certified genuis and a ton of fun!
Best Bio class i've ever taken. Ron is very demanding of his students, but if you work hard in the class you will get a good grade. The material is very interesting and the field trips are fun. Recommended Teacher!!!
2 words. awesome teacher. (a real genious too)
Contrary to everyone else, I didn't like him very much. He was kind of a jerk, I thought. The class was alright, but pretty boring. The parts on certain animals were the best, but there's not very much of it.
This guy explains things so well you can't help but understand.
The best Biology teacher I've ever had. Full of interesting info, very helpful, and is great at making difficult topics easy to understand.
Really good teacher, class is awesome, field trips every thursday. Keep up on the homework.

Great teacher- knows his stuff and is obviously very passionate about his subject. Tells you in advance when field trips/essays/labs are due and occasionally brings lizards to class. Everything is fairly easy as long as you keep up on all the different components (SAS, GAS, labs, field trips, homework, reading, essays...) which can be slightly overwhelming.
the lab hours suck but its a pretty easy class..
Great teacher-he is fun. Big time commitment, but not hard to do well with material.
i dont know what the rest of these raters are on but this was NOT a good class to take if...you have a life, you work, or if you dont want to be a plant, insect, or animal freak. the outline he gives you helps about as much as a row boat without a paddle. the classes are entertaining but other than that RUN!!!
I think that he is a great teacher. I was only taking this class for requirements but I really enjoyed it. I got a A and please believe I am not the best student whatsoever. Good Luck and if you do your labs you'll pass with flying colors.
He's pretty clear and quite informed. I only took it for the requirements but I think I learned some things that are good to know about the environment (Environmental Bio).
I liked this class. The feils trips kind of suck when you dont have a car and need to get a ride from someone and their is A LOT of studying but he makes the class fun and you can really tell how passionate he is which makes the class even better.
Anatomy is tough because it's time consuming-the muscle and bone lab are intense! a lot of memorizing! but Ruppert is super nice and took the time to get to know everyone even though it was a large class. His whole lecture was powerpoint which you can print up after the class. Fill out the study guide and you're good to go for the tests! good luck!
He gave great lectures. Uses powerpoint that you can download after class. Very accessable. Tests on material and provided excellent exam study guides. Study the whole study guide and you will get an A on the test! This teacher sets you up to succeed in his class! I highly recommend taking him for any science you need.
I loved Mr. Ruppert. He made sure you were understanding the information and was always there to help. He set up an extra class meeting just so he could show some tips on how to remember the bones. Hes a great teacher! Be prepared to take your quizzes orally. Quizzes are never written so you must be prepared!
Kinda kooky, kinda old school, and you will learn to hate his audios, but he knows his stuff and presents it well. Don't screw around in lecture, do your labs, and assignments and you'll do fine. I don't think you can avoid him on the 211 front, but Kirkhart's good for the SAS and definatley made the class enjoyable/easy enough.
Fun teacher. Need to go to class. Lectures are short. The labs and reports kind of suck, but they're easy and just do all of it. It's an easy A or B if you don't study.
Ruppert is a great anatomy professor! The class is challenging and time consuming, but if you do the work you have a good chance of doing well. Ron will always take the time to explain anything to you if you go see him during office hours. I highly recommend him for Anatomy, or any class! He rocks!
Great teacher. Lectures are short and the tests are on the lectures. Study and do well on the labs, study the lectures, and you will do good. He is funny and keeps anatomy interesting.
"use the magic finger"If this phrase will annoy you you probably should learn to love it if you have to take life science. It is his favorite. LOL. Ron is an amazingly great professor. He is so helpful and if you do the labs, and study them, you will get an A.
Mr. Ruppert is an interesting guy and an AMAZING teacher. Difficult course but if you want to get a lot out of your Anatomy course take it with Ruppert, he is the best!
I love Mr Ruppert! He is so helpful in answering any questions. If you try, you will succeed.Biology is what you make it :-)The test were straight from the lectures and labs. If you do the questions on the chapter review he actually uses some of the exact questions! The essays were occasionally hinted at, but if you know your stuff you will succeed!
Took Ruppert for Natural History of California & this guy is a great instructor. You do the work & take notes & there is no reason not to get an A. He is very clear about deadlines, his lectures are fun & he has a great sense of humor. He is VERY passionate about his subject. You will learn a LOT.
AWESOME teacher cool guy great class. Anatomy is definitely tough but he tells you that the first day. He makes everything crystal clear for tests and labs. The best teacher I have had so far at cuesta I wish there were more like him
Ruppert is an awesome guy. he is one of those professors that has to grow on you. but once you get to know him he rocks.
Ron is at a background of expertise in Ca Natural history. Agree w/comment below he has to grow on you. Study w/ partner as their is lots of info on tests.Highly recommended teacher.
ruppert is a GREAT teacher! definitely someone you should take for biology. he's super easy because he is CRYSTAL CLEAR. GO TO CLASS, it's part of your grade. do your lab(but you don't have to buy the textbook, i passed it without it!)
Perfect example of what a good teacher would be! Always happy to be there, always willing to help and re explain things, and keeps the class interesting and fun!
Ron is a good teacher but his lectures are very long and boring. Not to mention that you have to listen to him lecture in the IT lab, on top of the lecture in the GAS section. He is a funny teacher, I enjoyed him as a teacher but don't care for the subject.
This guy is annoying, but better annoying than a terrible teacher (which he isn't.) Very helpful. Very friendly. Wants you to pass the class.
funny guy, keeps lectures interesting and to the point, and he absolutely loves biology and animals
Ruppert is awesome! Very involved in his lectures (even when the material is boring as hell...), and he's always available to answer questions. If you take Anatomy with him, be prepared to devote a LOT of time there (i.e. 4 to 8 hours per week, including time for oral tests). Definitely worth signing up for his class!
Amazing teacher who is clearly passionate about what he teaches. Cracks corny jokes and is an all around nice guy. Very intense subject, but if you put in the hours and study, you'll do well. Take him for the orals; he'll help you out a little if you're struggling. Clearly wants his students to succeed.
Ron Ruppert is such a great teacher; one of the best I've ever had. He's so passionate about what he does, and makes me love going into the Bio field ever more. He's also the only teacher that would give real answers and feedback to my questions that we beyond discovered science.
1st of all, anatomy is not easy... but I have so much respect for this teacher because of how straight forward he made the class. I ALWAYS knew what to expect from the tests which are what make up the class aside from the orals in lab. He may be the "hardest" but if your taking this class to learn anything (why else would you take it) hes it...
Ron Ruppert is a GREAT teacher. He knows what he is talking about and makes you understand it. I looked forward to the lectures and they were interesting and the 2 hours went by very fast. He is straight forward with what he expects on test and in the lab! Best lecturer I've had in a very long time! I'm actually going to miss this class.
Ron is by far the best teacher I have ever had! Made lectures and orals in the lab very interesting by joking around and making it fun! Anatomy is a very hard class but he is always there to help and give advice on how you can do better! I wish all teachers were as great as him!
Ron Ruppert was a great teacher who really loves nature. He was friendly and interesting and even brought several of his pet reptiles to class.
This class is very difficult but the lab part is easy as long as you have the time to put into it. Lectures are VERY boring and he speaks to you as though you already know the subject. His study guides DO NOT help you at all on the tests and the questions can be very tricky!!!
Human Anatomy is a challenging class that moves fast and requires a lot of lab time, plus studying at home. Prof. Ruppert is a fantastic teacher, and I learned a lot. He's always available to help, and has a wealth of knowledge to share. Expectations are clear, course is well-organized, and grading is fair. Best community college class I've taken.
A very hard class especially in the short summer session. But I am so thankful I took it with Ruppert!!! I learned so much and will retain it thanks to this teacher. He is absolutely awesome!!
Ruppert is easily one of the best professors i've had at Cuesta. I was really nervous to take Human Anatomy during summer, but he made it so doable! (BTW...Summer anatomy=NO ORALS! Just quizzes every week. Much less intimidating) Ruppert loves life and science and animals and is just a positive person to be around. A+ for Ron
Ron has this class laid out so well. I learned a great deal. He was definitely one of my favorite professors.
Mr. Ruppert was a great Anatomy professor. He has been teaching the class for 30 years and knows his material. It's a lot of information to learn in a summer, but he has it organized so well that it was manageable. He really cares about his students, wants to help, and wants you to succeed. Very approachable too. Cool tortoises too!
Ron Ruppert was my absolute FAV professor I have ever had at Cuesta! Anatomy was tough at times, but Ron was always there to answer your questions. Also, hes pretty funny. He tries to keep the class entertaining. He knows his stuff and brings his lizards and other pets in lecture sometimes. BEST BEST BEST TEACHER take him for anatomy no matter what
Prof Ruppert definitely makes you work for a good grade, nothing is given to you. First thing you have to realize is that Anatomy is a hard course. It takes some discipline to manage the work needed to put in. The AT lab helps a lot with the oral exams and he makes pre/post lectures available as well as study guides weeks before an exam.
Super fun guy, if you're taking anatomy you have to have him! The class is very difficult but so is every other anatomy class. One of my favorite teachers Ive ever had.
I enjoyed this class. Rupert is a nice guy. He voices the audio labs as well and is pretty good at explaining things. He often makes silly jokes ("Am I going too fast? Use the magic finger!") Showing up late or leaving early seems to be his pet peeve. The reaction papers were super easy and a free 5 points every week so show up to the lectures.
Mr. Ruppert is a great professor. He has been teaching for over 30 years! I had him for Human Anatomy and Desert Biology (which I highly recommend taking.) In anatomy, the orals will walk you through the lab objectives. I would suggest forming a study group early on and going over the models together. Mr. R is a super knowledgeable professor.
Live in the Anatomy lab and you will pass. You know you're doing well when anatomy starts to pervade your life outside class.
Ruppert is really passionate about teaching and a super cool guy. You'll definitely need to put the time into studying and going to the lab, but it is manageable. The tests were a little difficult for me but the oral quizzes could really help your grade if you study study study. Overall he's a really good professor!
He is super knowledgeable and its a super interesting class. LOTS of work and memorizing so be prepared.
Mr. Ruppert is my all time favorite Professor. It is one of the hardest classes I have taken so far, but with a professor as amazing as him it wasn't that bad. He is always available to help. I recommend making a relationship with him and going into his office hours before a test HE HELPS SO MUCH. You have to work for your grade. make a study group
It's a straightforward class. You need to get ready to memorize, ALOT of stuff. Do not take the exams and oral quizzes lightly, you're grade will suffer the consequences. Best advice, find study buddies, spend time going over and over material, and work hard. He will reward you if you work hard, and is very approachable. Wonderful lectures!!
Disappointed. Seeing he has a lot of good reviews I expected a great teacher, but I honestly had to teach myself. Lectures are very boring & long. Take your orals with Lisa S. if you can! she is the BEST! Study guides are ridiculous & no help for exams. If you can, take Anatomy at AHC w Miyahara. He teaches you how to study for effective learning.
One of the best teachers I had not only at Cuesta, but Cal Poly too.
Find someone to study with in the ATLAB and try to stay on track. His lectures are easy to follow and he uploads them after class so you can go back with the study guide and review for the test. Lisa Schicker is the best one to take an oral with because she points out what things are important for the test and where the info is in the book.
Use your phone once, youre kicked out of class. Use it twice, you fail the course. Hes very straightforward. Hes helpful and understanding and invests A LOT of his time into biology, his students, and his job in general. If youre a lazy student, dont take his class. Do your assignments, youll pass. Hes very fair!
Mr. Ruppert is my absolutely favorite teacher! He is funny, caring, extremely intelligent and makes learning sort of fun! If you want to pass, come to class. He does not like when students leave early or come late. Also never use your phone in class. Overall an amazing teacher!!!
With this extremely difficult class, Prof Ruppert really makes sure you have all the materials, in lab and at home, in order for you to be successful. Youll have to study a lot, but Ruppert really is an amazing professor whos goal is to make sure youre successful.
Great teacher and expectations are clear. He is very approachable and loves what he does. He focuses on the larger concepts in his lectures, which I prefer. This was a self-led lab class, and he did a great job on the audio part of it.
I was struggling in the beginning of the semester, I noticed the lectures would emphasize on subjects that were never on the test, and just graze over the test material. I stopped going to lecture altogether (lost 5 points each absence) and started acing the exams. I think hes funny and interesting, but I never learned anything from him.
Ronnie boy was my favorite professor this semester. He tries to make you laugh, but he isn't the best at it. Just do your work, it really isn't a hard class
Ron was one of the best professors I've had since I've been at Cuesta. As long as you show up to class and go to lab the class should be a piece of cake.
I expected a lot more from him since these ratings are so high, but he was pretty average. Pretty boring lectures and talks about personal things for so long instead of important material. I definitely had to teach myself throughout the year. Find people to study with for orals and start studying early. He is helpful if you go to office hours
He's meh, he wants you to eat, breath, & sleep Anatomy as if that's the only class you're taking. His exams have an essay portion where he makes you study 8-10 essay questions but only two are on the actual exam & he's so proud of the torture he makes you go through. Also, his grading on those are VERY specific so be sure to notate everything.
Rupps is an extremely genuine and fair professor. If you are as enthusiastic about learning as he is about teaching, you will flourish in this class. If you wish to succeed, you will succeed. Sit in the front at lecture and pay attention. Take advantage of the AT lab; the tutors are there to help. Become close with your peers in this tough class!!
Professor Ruppert is one of the best instructors that I had. You just need to ask for his help, he will do everything to help you. He puts lots of time and effort to interact with his students to help them study and understand the concept. He will appreciate your effort and it will affect your grade. I definitely recommend him.
Professor Ruppert was probably one of my favorite professors, he knows all the materials hes teaching in depth and teaches you all you need to know for the test.
I took this Desert biology class and it was so much fun. I highly recommend taking this class. Ron is an amazing teacher. He knows the material in depth and makes field studies something that I would regularly like to do/attend.
This class is so ridiculously intense I wouldn't understand the material whether or not he explained it well. For an underdiv anatomy intro course, the expectations are insane. I took this at a bad time working & in 4 other courses, but his only suggestion was to drop a class or work less when I don't have either option... lol thanks for nothing?
One of the most challenging yet rewarding classes I have taken. He warns you ahead of time that it will be difficult and a good amount of time will be spent between the AT lab and studying. This being said, Prof. Ruppert is one of a kind and accessible outside of class. He is genuine, personable, and truly wants to see you succeed.
R. Ruppert is seriously the best professor I've had. He's SO passionate about his work and his love for biology is so apparent. The lectures are interesting and he will do his best to help you with whatever you need. The class is definitely a lot of work (at LEAST 12 hrs/week) so be prepared to, as he says, "eat, breath, sleep anatomy". Good luck!
I am really surprised I was able to pass this class with a grade higher than what I expected. Ruppert's class was very interesting to take, and I learned a lot. Show up to his lectures, put in your hours in the lab, and study for the tests and the essays he gives you! And don't be late to test day!
He's okay. He is very clear about how you will be graded and what is expected of you to be successful so definitely listen to that. He goes on a lot of random tangents in lecture about stuff that doesn't matter which gets kind of frustrating. I talked to a lot professors in the lab and Megan Oneil was my favorite I wish I took her class instead.
Most reasonable/fair professor ever.
Such a great professor! This class can be intimidating, its hard and requires a lot of your time but its manageable. Even though the class is hard he made it very enjoyable. Hes really funny and knows what hes talking about! Dont be afraid to talk to him, hes really helpful and wants you to pass!!
Truly awesome professor. I took the short-term class over summer, which I recommend doing. The volume of material can be intimidating, but an A is definitely attainable if you study efficiently. Highly recommend purchasing a coloring book, I probably would have struggled if I didnt have all of the material needed composed in one place.
Retook anatomy because myself and nursing programs would not be satisfied with the grade I had before. I do have prior knowledge about the course but the course was still challenging. Ruppert was an amazing lecturer. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. An intellectual man who does not belittle his students. Give this man a raise! Amazing!
So, I feel I am teaching myself this class. With one lecture a week, the guy does not bestow any extra knowledge that I wouldn't find in the book or in his lab recordings. I am also working a full time job and trying to dedicate all my time to his course, but he is not accessible to the working student. He needs to teach and not lecture.
Lectures are useless, Ruppert uses about half of his allotted time to let the class copy down homework answers that he wrote, which he refers to as "essays", instead of having students write their own responses to questions-- strange. The entire powerpoint is then posted online after class for students to copy down if they happened to miss class.
If you have a hard time with tests, this class is for you. The hardest part of the class is finding the time to complete the countless hours of high school-esque worksheets. Wish we could just read the textbook and be tested on the material, lots of fill-in-the-blank busy work. Heavy point deductions for absences, doesn't feel like a college course
Gear up for a self taught anatomy class! Ruppert is funny and a nice fellow, I just don't dig the way the course is taught. Lecture only 1 day a week and all lab objectives are self taught. Hard subject made even harder by having students teach themselves. 10 oral exams through the semester on top of 4 written exams. Talk about extreme stress.
This class is pretty ridiculous. I'm taking calc 1, yet this class takes up at least triple the time that calculus does every week, which doesn't make sense because the material in biology is super easy to learn (especially when compared to calculus). The lab work is unnecessarily long and feels like a 5th grade scavenger hunt. Avoid if you can.
Ive taken quite a few science/biology classes at Cuesta and two other community colleges in California and I have to say this is the most disappointing and valueless science class I have taken to date. Hed rather you memorize terms than learn the concept! And his lab work could be left out entirely, it feels so juvenile and is an utter waste
Ruppert is a wonderful teacher who loves what he does. He is a helpful teacher when it comes to an extremely hard class. Get ready for stress! Oral exam sign ups are a competition. There is a LOT of work, and you have to be self motivated. If you become friends with Ruppert, find the right professors to take orals with and work hard you will be ok.
I loved Ruppert and his lectures were always easy to follow along and filled with information. Oral exams were the biggest stressor for me but as long as you spend time in lab you'll be fine. It made me love anatomy even more, it's such a great class!
Nice professor, very straight on and clear with students. He asks what's required and tries to make it as easy as possible. Also very funny and cracks corny jokes and puns all the time. Only thing was he was a little slow in lectures, so I sped up the audio to 1.5x and it was much better. You WILL be spending hours studying for this class..
Ruppert really micromanages the biology department at Cuesta. He seems to believe his students don't have other classes, and expects them to dedicate all their time to his material. I've never had a class that gave two exams on the same day before this course. He seems more focused on challenging students than teaching them, which is a shame.
When I read some of the the low reviews given by other students I was questioning whether we had the same professor??Ron's tests and quizzes are so straight forward and EASY all you have to do is put in the time, a few hours a day thats it. I was able to pass this class with a 98%. He really wants everyone to pass with a high grade.
Ron Ruppert is clearly passionate about biology, but he fails to ignite or appreciate that passion in his students. He comes across as condescending at times, and was somewhat unprofessional during zoom meetings. I tried to inject my passion for biology into my work, but it was ignored. Only cares that you do the assignment exactly how he wants.
This class was pretty straight forward. The labs are simple if you aren't afraid to ask questions. Never studied for this class and still got an A. All tests are open book. Long lectures and the zoom meetings are mandatory if you want a good grade. The class definitely takes a lot of your time considering you have to go in person for labs.
Average class. Labs took forever but were relatively easy. Exams were all open note so there is really no excuse not to pass. He's nice in my opinion and is straight forward with his material.
He's not an understanding professor and expects his students to prioritize work over their lives. He doesn't care if you have issues in your life as long as you turn in your work.
This professor was about to drop me from a course because I was absent on the first day of class, due to attending my mothers funeral. I even sent him an email asking to please not drop me and explained the circumstance. He requested a mandatory death certificate and had to ask my dad for it. Apart from that, I did enjoy his class.
Ruppert's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the effort. The workload is heavy, but manageable with good time management. Utilize resources like the textbook and Unstuck ai to supplement lecture material.
