great sense of humor, great lectures, no discussions. dont underestimate the class...the info is easy and seems like common sense but the tests are retarded so you really need to study for them. textbook not needed but you can buy it for kicks.
Went to maybe 1 out of 4 classes and still passed with a C. Seemed like a nice enough guy tho.
He's a very helpful teacher, and gives interesting lectures.
He's awesome! his lectures are interesting so go to class because thats where all the info comes from...the tests arent very easy but study hard for them and you'll be fine. I loved this class.
Sabatelli is a great guy and is very available outside of class for help. His lectures are worth going to because the info is interesting and he's hilarious. All the info is from there so theres not need to buy the book. The tests are hard so study and no the info cold.
This class is absolutely wonderful- if you go to uconn and you don't take it you have missed out on a once in a lifetime experience. Every lecture is amazing and the tests (if you go to lecture), are incredibly easy. Wonderful professor, and he knows sooo much, take advantage of his wisdom! Probably the most important class you'll take.
dont take the tests lightly!!! the info in class seems like common sense but the test will make you say wtf! cocky guy but speaks the truth and his lectures are very informative...ps no book needed but good notes are required!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! thats all I have to say...God Bless This Man...Use his office hours!
one of the funniest professors you will ever meet...always managed to make the entire lecture hall laugh at least once each class (even at 9am!) and the material was really interesting and relatable to your own life
If you've never thought about taking an HDFS class, take 190 with him and you will thank yourself later- it's the only lecture I actually enjoy going to. The material is all applicable to your own sexperiences and daily life. His test aren't ridiculously easy, but as long as you go to class and take good notes you'll be fine.
GREAT PROFESSOR... takes the time to explain something to you if you do not understand... i wish there were more professors like him.
One of my favorite professors. All you have to do is come to class and listen. He makes the information clear and the lectures aren't boring. if you have any questions at all he is extremely helpful and his office hours will be a huge help. I just would not underestimate his exams. There are no study guides and he doesn't use Vista so listen i
Excellent teacher. As a heads up, take 190 and then take a developmental psych 200 level course. They are identical in what they cover. If you need a 200 level psych requirement, you will already know the content and can concentrate on the assignments.
This was the best HDFS class I have ever taken. Ron's lectures are super interesting and he truly cares about the material. Exams are straight forward multiple choice right from the notes.
He is hysterical! Jokes around about sex, love, and relationships. What more could you ask for? Lectures are very interesting and YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS. His exams are based on his lectures. You will need to study even though a lot of the topics he covers seems like common sense his wording of a question can really mess you up if you haven't studi
really interesting and funny. definitely go to lecture but dont bother reading the book.
very interesting professor. attended most classes and still got a C. tests seem like common sense but they're kind of tricky...
awsome guy. go to lecture. take note of EVERY example he gives you in class.
This guy loves what he does. Makes jokes during class and keeps things interesting. Definitely take notes and go to class! The exam questions come straight from examples he gives in lecture...if you have to take an hdfs course I'd recommend taking it with him.
Favorite teacher at UCONN. So interesting . He does NOT put notes on husky CT so bring ur laptop and type everything he says LITERALLY. Two exams and a final. NO papers pretty straight foward. 350 in class. take it!
LOVE this class. by far one of the best lecturing prof's UConn has. loves what he does, teaches with lots of examples - the material is really intuitive - you'll have examples from your own life that you can use to reinforce most of the concepts. def go to lecture, take good notes (not just what he puts up on the board). fav prof so far. take this!
he keeps class interesing and always has funny stories to go along with his lectures. go to class and take notes or else your screwed for the exam because the book does nothing for you. i definetely recomend taking his classes. great professor. he loves what he does. interesting stuff.
best teacher at uconn. he actually likes his job and enjoys teaching. he's very educated and knows what he's talking about. you MUST go to class and literally write down everything he says. notes are not online. do NOT buy the book- he does not follow it and is a waste of money.
Ron Sabatelli is an amazing professor!! This class has taught me so much and I look forward to going to it! As long as you pay attention and study for the exams you'll do fine!! He is an intelligent man beyond belief but has a way of connecting with the students!! TAKE THIS CLASS!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ! HE DOES NOT FOLLOW THE BOOK. DONT waster your money. DO NOT BUY. he only puts up outlines and then talks a mile a minute so you need to write down everything he says. only 3 exams no extra credit, do not take. his exams are everything he says and there are 30 pages of notes to go over for an exam RIDIC.
Worst teacher i've ever i had. Ron's exams are absurd, you think you do well..you dont. he is the laziest teacher i've ever encountered only gives 3 exams.should be a great class but he ruined it.only good thing-sometimes he's funny.
Great professor; funny and clear. But exams are subjective; his questions could have more than one answer. Don't study the textbook, study the online readings! Ask him for help during exams, he will point you in the right direction.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! you don't use the book but you MUST go to class. The exams are based off each lecture. Take really good notes and know them very very well before exams. Material seems like common sense but you have to study for the tests. You really need to know every word in your notes to do well. Awesome teacher though, so much fun!
Ron is the best professor I think anyone can ever have at Uconn. He is the most down to earth, friendly, guy you will ever meet. If you read one page for his class, you've just read one page too many. Honestly, if you go to class, copy down his lecture outlines and take some side notes then you are all prepared for his exams.
Legit the best class i have EVER taken, Ron is an amazing teacher if you didnt like this class or do well it's because you're lazy and dont go to class, went to every class and my worst exam grade was a 94 which was on the final. I honestly wish i could take it again he's AMAZING!
I really wonder who's writing these comments.. I took 1070 with Ron last semester and ended with a C after going to every class, and studying a lot for every exam. His notes are absolutely pointless. I know 3 other people who took this class, and they all got C's too. Awful.
Really interesting class but you NEED to go to class and from the outline notes he posts for each lecture, add EVERYTHING he says in class and then really study them
had him my freshman year, he's knowledgeable and funny at times. tests are difficult and you will doubt your answers but i guess my guesses were good since i ended up with an A. studied the night before and read the book, but don't recommend reading the book until the second exam. went to his office hours.. nice guy
Awesome Professer! One of my favorite classes- it's the interesting things everyone thinks you learn in psychology. Topics apply to real life and he keeps you interested. Take good notes and always go to class. Study all of the little things but don't listen to the other negative comments. I ended with an A. I barely skimmed the book. Love Sabatell
Professor uses few study aids for class. Exams are the only way to judge how well one is retaining the information. Rote Memorization is the key to his class. Comprehensive understanding of the material is not necessary.
Very smart guy, the information he teaches is useful in your life with relationships, have to attend classes he gives out outlines but they are vague you have to fill them in what he says, I would recommend taking his classes
This class was one of the most interesting classes I took. I thought it would be easy but it is in fact very difficult. Ron is a phenomenal professor and if you are interested in learning things that are applicable to real life, take it. Don't take it because you think it will be an easy A.
Ron is a good guy, very funny and his teachings are laced with personal touches that lighten the learning mood. That said, his exams are ridiculous. Very, VERY confusing. You will pause many times and seriously consider that at least three of the answers would work, and work WELL. Three tests, no other work, fairly lazy professor but very kind.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Trust me, he is a great/funny teacher and you will learn a lot. I did not think this was a hard class. You don't even need to read a textbook. Just go to ALL his lectures and take good notes. You will enjoy going to class because he tells funny stories and makes the material interesting to learn about. Great class!
sabatelli is soooo into his subject and it helps a lot, so it's important to go to class and take good notes because your grade is just based on 3 exams and he does notttt go by the book. he gets really into his stories though, so you'll enjoy the class :)
i think i went to about 10 classes including the exams, and i came out of that class with a C+ if i actually went to class it would have been a really easy A take this class its all common sense
Ron is an amazing professor, I love him! He is very passionate about what he teaches, and his stories are funny and entertaining. This is a great class; I highly recommend it. And don't buy the book. He gives you one online anyway.
Very interesting class! Attending lecture is mandatory- some exam questions include "as stated in lecture..". You do not need the textbook AT ALL. All of it is based off of his online readings and lectures. Pretty common sense class. But, the exams can be a little tricky. You really need to know the material going into the exam in order to do well.
I took this class because of all of the great reviews, but I found my experience to be very different. He is so full of himself it makes me sick. Study as much as you want for exams, it really comes down to luck. He tests you on his opinion. He is lazy & only uses a word document that you can barely read them from the back of the room. Good luck.
Teacher does not use book. Pointless purchasing a book. Questions on exams seems complicated. Does not seem to compose easily. Not easy to follow. Could be an easy class however, teacher makes it difficult to understand. If you don't have to take this class don't take it.
Ron is a great professor. He makes the class interesting and enjoyable. Attendance is highly recommended because there are a lot of notes taken in class. The exams can be difficult, but he is really willing to help you out. If you go to his office hours or email him questions he will give you a lot of insight on the material and exams.
This was my favorite class I've taken at UConn. The course content is really interesting and you have to devote a lot of time to study for the exams because they are each worth 33%. Definitely go to lecture
Loved this class! Very interesting material, Sabatelli is very enthusiastic about the class and very intelligent. Definitely go to lecture because theres alot of note-taking. Study notes for exams, don't buy the textbook because you'll never touch it. Study notes really well for exams and you'll do well.
Ron is GREAT! Definitely knows what he's talking about. A really interesting class taught by a very smart and fun professor. Exams are TOUGH but if you're interested in the subject this class is definitely worth it!
The class was pretty good! you have to go to class regularly. Ron makes it worth while. He has some pretty funny stories and the subject is interesting and relevant. Overall good class. The tests are pretty doable if you study a reasonable amount.
Text book was not needed, only tested on material 'learned in class'. He was very enthusiastic but the exams were worth so much towards final grade and were VERY based on his opinions and views. I took this class because of the good reviews but definitely had an adverse outcome compared to some. Take this class with another professor.
I liked him. Class is absolutely mandatory though. I skipped more than I would like to admit which landed me with a not so great grade (my fault). ***DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK***
Ron is probably one of the best professors I've ever had. He is so incredibly invested in what he teaches that it makes going to lectures (WHICH IS IMPERATIVE TO PASS THE EXAMS) fun! He does a lot of talking about himself but it's more or less relevant and very funny. The textbook was basically an un-needed study guide. Not necessary at all.
Ron is a great guy, very funny, and makes lectures interesting. I never read the online chapters and still ended up with a good grade. Attendance is mandatory. There are only 3 exams with no extra credit, but as long as you study hard before the exam you're good.
His lectures are great and keep you interested. You have to attend and take notes because he only posts lecture outlines but he knows a lot and makes lectures interesting. Only three exams out of 50 points so you have to study and do well on all three. No outside homework's besides readings. He is awesome!
The class is only mandatory if you are reading the textbook for each section.
He is so passionate and informative. You need to go to lecture because his exams are 100% based on them. Readings are unnecessary but can't hurt. Only 3 exams so it's important to prepare for them and study vocab. A super interesting topic though and a lot of it is common sense and applicable to your life. Great class, recommend it with him.
Everything said here is pretty much true. Ron is a great professor who is very passionate about his work. He is funny, and provides great examples in class. Book + readings are completely optional. Tests can be pretty tricky though because material is subjective. I missed the final and was still able to take it. Amazing class, but not an easy A
Ron was one of my favorite professors. He is good at engaging the class with his personal stories which also make it easier to remember the material. Tests are entirely based on his opinions and each count for a third of the grade. If you go to lecture you don't need the text books, if you don't go to lecture read the book and you'll be fine.
Not an easy A but it was a great class. Ron is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes class so interesting. Because of his class I am considering a minor in HDFS. There are only three exams but if you go to class and study a couple days before hand you will be perfectly fine.
Funny professor who tries to make the material relatable for students
Great professor, really clear and knows what he's talking about. You have to go to class though or you won't know the material he puts in exams. Your grade is made up entirely of 4 non-cumulative exams, 25% each.
Ron is a really great guy! This class was so easy. To study for his exams just go over his powerpointyour notes a few times and you're good to go! I really liked the topic and I loved applying it to my own life! Honestly very easy!
-don't need to buy textbook or do online readings he posts -attendance is a MUST (what he talks about in lecture is crucial for exams) -take good notes to go along with his outlines and that's all you need to study for exams -4 noncumulative tests total
Honestly one of the most amazing professors at UConn. The class is extremely interesting but if you think it is going to be an easy A thats not the case. The problem with the class is his exams are impossible to do well on. I ended up dropping it just because it was bringing down my GPA so much. I recommend trying it out and see how it goes
Ron is an amazing professor hands down. He is great at lectures, and really knows how to make the class crack a smile or laugh. One thing I would say that I was not extremely fond of were the tests. There are only FOUR exams throughout the semester and the questions are all multiple choice. Although it may seem easy, you really have to study.
Ron is truly an awesome professor. His lectures are interesting and entertaining due to his passion for the material and sense of humor. What you learn is meaningful and relatable. Try not to miss any classes, because there are only four exams that make up your grade and they completely mirror the lectures. If you study, you should do well.
Ron is a great professor and his lectures are fun to attend, but his exams are no joke. Whatever small percentage of students that received A's were the only ones that rated him in spring 2015 but that isn't the case for fall. Straight up no curve whatsoever and don't expect the final exam to save your grade! Force be with you fellow Huskies.
Ron is literally the best professor ever! His lectures are absolutely hilarious. He engages with his students and connects with every single one of them. He shares a lot of funny stories omg his lectures are great. No textbook, tests are based off of lectures. If you study, you will get an A. Great class! highly recommend
Ron was a great lecturer, but would sometimes get off topic. Overall a great professor. The exams can be a little tricky, but if you pay attention in class you'll be fine.
He's a funny guy and an entertaining lecturer. However, his exams were definitely on the harder side. I recommend using flashcards to learn the topics.
My favorite professor by far. His lectures move pretty fast so you'll have to take notes quickly. Try to include as much as you can in them as his exams are based on the lecures. You'll get an A if you study and put some effort in!
Ron is an interesting man. I thought I liked him, but then grew to not be a huge fan. There are 4 exams in this class, each only on a few weeks worth of material. Not a difficult class. Showing up to class is important because he goes over the entire outline each lecture.
Ron is simply awesome. The lectures are great and aren't a pain to sit through. The exams are tough, but just study a lot and you'll do fine. Highly recommend taking a class with him!
Truly the best professor I've ever had. Lectures are interesting/funny and he shares a lot of personal stories that make the material easier to understand. I highly recommend this class to everyone and you will learn a lot. Tests are not that bad if you go to class, go over the lectures, and read the chapters he puts online. Amazing class!!
Honestly my fave professor ever! His lectures are absolutely amazing, and he's so funny. The material is pretty interesting and super easy to understand. Your grade is only based on 3 exams that are 50 multiple choice each. I highly recommend the class for Ron though! Definitely worth it if you need a gen ed or a requirement.
Hands down my favourite professor. He's hilarious, clear in lecture, and understandable. Your only grades are four non-cumulative exams that he gives through the year. Huge lecture hall class- get there early or get no seat. If you attend class, you're given the info you need to pass, little reading required (but it's always recommended).
Ron is one of the most inspirational and caring professors I have ever encountered. For a 9:00 AM lecture, I actually looked forward to this class. He speaks with integrity, humor, sincerity, love, and all of the above. Not only one of the greatest professors you will ever meet- one of the greatest people. 3 multiple choice exams and 1 non-cum.
Ron is hand down one of the best professors at Uconn. His lectures are very interesting but attendance is a must. 4 multiple choice exams 50 questions 25% of your grade each. You don't need to do any reading because exams are based solely off lectures. Pretty challenging but if you study you'll do fine.
Very great guy, engaging lectures, but you must attend every single lecture. Don't expect an easy A. The exams ask very specific questions.
Interesting lectures but make sure to pay attentipon and take good notes Exams are mostly fair but sometimes pick at specific details mentioned once during lecture There is a textbook that he published and gives you access to on huskyct but I barely used it and never used it to study
Ron is so great. I actually was motivated to get up for 9am classes because of how funny and interesting his lectures can be. No graded homework and no writing, just a few exams that you should study for using your lecture notes. Everyone should take this class regardless of major because of the lessons and perspective it gives you on life.
Ron is fiercely passionate. He articulates every lecture with style and grace. Don't spend the entire lecture scramming to get the notes down. Take 1/4 of the class to listen, really listen. This class opened so many windows for my mind. Really recommend his class!
Ron was my favorite professor at UConn so far. He is so passionate about what he teaches and you learn a lot about yourself and life from the class. Exams are relatively easy if you are able to understand the concepts and apply them to real life situations. This class made me change my major to HDFS. Definitely take it!
Mr. Sabatelli is honestly the best professor I've ever taken at Uconn. I really hope people read this because it's so important. I took this course and after a couple lectures figured everything was pretty common sense therefore I didn't study much. I ended up having to drop due to my lack of studying. He is AMAZING I'm taking it again with him
He is honestly one of the best professors at uconn! he is so passionate about what he teaches. Your grade is only based on 4 exams. Final is not accumulative and you learn a lot in the class. I honestly believe everybody should take this class plus it is interesting and informative. You do have to take notes though if not you will not pass.
Ron was one of my favorite professors at UConn! I generally hate morning classes, but every other morning I was excited to get up and go HDFS. His lectures were always funny and interesting and I actually felt I learned a lot. His exams were easy if you went to every class and took notes. Highly recommend taking this class
Only graded on the 4 exams. One of the best professors I've had at UConn. Class was always interesting, and Ron is so so passionate about what he teaches. Hilarious guy, definitely recommend taking this class. Taught me a lot
This guy is a real gem! I think he's planned on retiring but I'm not too sure if that's in the works yet. Class is graded on 4 exams, no extra credit given. The book isn't required - you don't really even need to read the chapters he uploads online. Go over your notes 10 times and then 5 more times before the exams and you'll do great.
