He is a good teacher. He is knowledgable about subject matter. He is fair in grading, and tries to make the material understandable. Relatively easy.
Very knowledgeable and explains the subjects well. It is easy to see he enjoys what he does. He is fair in grading and tells you what to study prior to quizzes. He is also willing to help with mentoring issues.
cool professor! did an awesome job at teaching lab. he's really hot so its easy to pay attention to everything he says.. haha. he made the class fun!
Awesome guy, awesome teacher, i heard he is better than chorba for labs, but chorba is still the man for lecture

I loved him great teacher
he is a great teacher...he knows his material and makes A&P really easy...he tells you in lecture specifics to know for the exam...just study handouts..i never read the book and got an A...plus he offers extra credit
Best A&P teacher... takes extra time out of his schedule to help you...he goes over material until you understand it...you can go to him anytime with questions..i def. recommend him as a teacher
best professor i've ever had.....and hes gorgeous u cant stop paying attention half the time
Loved him
Loved him
He is a GREAT teacher!!
He's a really good teacher!!!! He definitely knows what he's talking about!! I wish my other professors knew what they were doing!!
Excellent professor, really cares about teaching. Doesn't condescend or talk down to his students. Easygoing, mellow and considerate of students' needs. Excellent lecturer. Take his class now, unlikely he'll stay at MCCC once he finishes his PHD.
he"s an awesome teacher

Great teacher
Great teacher! Very caring of his students. Very knowledgable of the material. Well presented lectures and easy to follow with notes. One of the best teachers at MCCC.
best lecture professor ever!!!! and he is fine lol
A gem of a teacher...class made me love anatomy and choose a healthcare profession (nursing). Wish he could be duplicated. We need great profs in the allied health professions. Take his class, he's wonderful...
Not only is he a great teacher but he is really smart and knows just about everything on the subject. I have taken many classes at Mercer and he is one of my favorite professors. If you have a choice you will be much better off with him than any other lecture professor. His lecture style is great!
Prof Smith was fantastic, even though I went brain dead during the test's and practiums. There should be more professors like him.
loved it!
Prof. Smith is great!I only had him for lecture, but if you do miss a class he does not take attendance, so you need to get the missed notes. He is better then other lecture teachers in that he tells you what will be on exams, and he tells you what in the notes you don't need to know. It really helps to copy down the most missed questions on exams.
Prof Smith is great. Explained thing to the point and if you had a question it was answered. I only wish I had him as a teacher for LAB also ...... I would have done better...

He is the best professor in mercer. he should teach all the bio classes. i took him in summer & it was a great experience. he prints out da notes & u don't need a book. just bring a pen & your brain & u should be alright.
Made class interesting! he is awesome!
Best BIO103 teacher ever! Extremely helpful and very clear about the material he teaches.
he's extremely helpful and willing to work with anyone under any circumstances. His teaching methods are very clear and understand able. the tests are exactly from the notes.
great teacher! Plus he's eye candy which is added bonus since let's face it, anatomy's not the most interesting of subjects..
Such a great professor, would take any class taught by him
He is very helpful and will take the time to go over any questions about the material. He will even review a whole test with you! Excellent teacher!
He is a great teacher, he make it easier to comprehend anatomy;and if you are having a hard time, he's always willing to go the extra mile to help you not only "memorize" what you're learning, but understand it.
love him!!!
Prof Ron is the best teacher at Mercer!!!....He cares about his students, he is patient, considerate, and he is very knowledgeable. I have been out of school for many years, and I am working on my nursing degree as a 2nd career. Not only is he a wonderful man...he is awesome to look at..he is simply BEAUTIFUL!!! LOVE HIM!! MUAH!! :)
One of the best professors I have.
terrible teacher didnt learn much at all he seemed ok in beginning but horrible at end makes u learn unneeded info that confuses u
Prof. Smith has a great knowledge and knows how to lay it out for the students. I had no problems in his class but of course you have to study, no professor will give you grades for free, it's college not kindergarten. He is a great professor, I would definitely recommend him for anybody who's planning to take anatomy.
Grrrrrreat!
Miss having you as a teacher! You were the best!
Amazing professor!! Fun to look at too
Best Professor Ever! And Hot. :) He takes the time to explain everything so u understand it not just memorize it. I took his Lab class once cause I missed mine, and he is just as great in there as he is in Lecture. I was like "oh, this is what I was supposed to be doing in here" I wish there were more professors out there like him.
Mr.Smith was an excellent professor this semester...he explained every concept clearly and gave easy examples for us to understand the chapters. It's too bad that he isn't my professor for Bio 102... :(
He's really helpful when dealing with the 'cat'. Great person to talk to when you need help.
great teacher. knows info. oh and hes hot!
Makes everything easy to understand. Very helpful!
Great professor. Tough class by nature but hammers in key components. Always able to answer the question. Knows his stuff. Very helpful.
He is the nicest guy. He definitely knows what he's talking about, and you can tell he enjoys what he does. He is a smart guy, who's lectures are very clear. He uses a lot of examples and different methods of learning. I had him for both lab and lecture, and I was definitely lucky! GET HIM IF YOU CAN!!
He honestly was one of the best Prof. that I have ever had. He made the material very clear to understand and he made sure that he was available whenever anyone needed him. I would highly recommend him to anybody. However, don't spend the $ on the book he doesn't use it. The lab manual is the best way to go.
He's amazing at what he does!
I have had this guy for BIO 102 and 103 and he is quite honestly the best science teacher I have ever had. Highly recommend to anyone.
I had Ron for BIO103 LAB/LEC and BIO104LEC and he's an awesome teacher! He knows his stuff, he presents it clearly. He is always available for extra help. You can tell he loves what he does.
By far the BEST A&P professor, very clear and helpful. Class is fun. He tells you exactly what to study and what will be on the exam and lab practicals.
Excellent lecturer.Everything he says in class will help you on the exam.Uses examples to clarify difficult concepts.Very helpful during office hours.Take him for both lecture and lab if you can.
Just finished Prof Smith's BIO 103 class and have to say he presented the class material well; the pace of the lectures were good, and this exams were right from the class notes. I look forward to taking BIO 104 with him in the fall.
Great class; best A&P Prof I have ever had. Tests right from class notes. If you don't do well in his class, you were not paying attention.
Prof. Smith is a huge asset to MCCC. He makes Biology very interesting and understandable to those who despise it. Very helpful during his office hours and will gladly go over anything you don't understand. Very professional and highly recommended! Great guy.
Ron Smith is the best teacher I have ever had. He knows exactly what he's talking about, and he is VERY clear. All my friends who had him also loved him. If you're looking to take any Biology classes, look for Ron Smith.
AWESOME TEACHER! He really knows his stuff. You can tell he loves doing what he does. Very helpful, and approachable. Tests are not too difficult, but he tells you exactly what you need to know for them. Highly recommended!
As you can probably tell from all the comments, Ron is great! Very helpful and straight foward. I really enjoyed his class. The only way you will not get an A in the class is if you don't put the time in or show up for class. I studied the notes for hours upon hours, and never missed a class. That's why I got an A.
Good professor. Easy to follow. Interesting material.
Great professor! He is professional, and always prepared for the lecture.
I loved his Bio103 lecture class, he manage to make everything so easy to understand. I hoping to take him for Bio104 lecture
The absolute best teacher I have ever had, ever. He loves what he does and that is easily seen in the way that he lectures. He is really passionate about his work and research in and out of the classroom. There really isn't enough room in this comment box to say all of the great things about him. I had him for BIO102 lecture/lab and BIO103 lab.
The absolute best teacher I have ever had, ever. He loves what he does and that is easily seen in the way that he lectures. He is really passionate about his work and research in and out of the classroom. He is always willing to help and genuinely cares about his students. I had him for BIO102 lecture/lab and BIO103 lab.
Professor Ron Smith is the best bio 102 lecture professor at the Mercer County Community college. His style of teaching is amazing! Love it!
Good professor.
Knows his material and is very thorough.
Amazing professor! He is definitely one of my favorites at mercer and he is a really nice guy who's willing to help you out with any problems you might have. His lectures are really clear and he explains everything really well. I would definitely take him again!
I feel like Ron has a fan club of past students. I've met people who have had him before and we bond over how incredible he is. Best professor I've had hands down, he goes over the material until everyone understands it. His lectures and notes are exactly the material on the tests and he's a very nice guy.
Ron Smith is by far the best A&P Professor a student can ever ask for. I was lucky enough to have received Ron as my Professor for the Lecture component of both, BIO 103 and BIO 104. Put in the necessary study time, and you'll see the results you want. Good luck, everyone!
Gives extensive info packed lectures. Makes you study hard, but at the end it's worth it.
Awesome guy. 10/10 However, you need to study in order to pass. Not an easy A.
One of the most respected Professors in Mercer among students and professors. Strict in directions, great with lectures and tests are directly from his lectures . A little bit of side notes on your own helps a lot. The homework given are informative and helpful. I took him again for Bio 102 and had a great time in the class.
I had Ron for my bio 101, bio 203, and bio 204 classes. Textbooks are good to have but he doesn't require them. He makes himself available to meet at some point other than class time if you need extra help. He gives a day before the test to study and go over materials. Cares about his students. I HIGHLY recommend taking his class!
Dr. Smith is one of the best professors I've had. His explanations of the expectations and material are clear and concise. He has a strong ability to explain the material in different ways to adapt to the students' way of learning and he is very patient, and willing to take the time to help you understand if need be.
This semester I had the wonderful opportunity of having Ron be my BIO 104 lab professor and I am very thankful that he was! Being a very hands on and visual person, I responded very well to his teaching style and loved how he taught the class in general. A simply splendid teacher!
Prof Ron, is the most Amazing professor I ever had. He knows how to explain even a boring topic so well, that you would never get bored. He's explains everything very clearly. If I ever decide on being a professor, he's definitely the one I would like to be like. It was an honor having him as a professor. He's "THE BEST"!!
Really great professor, caring and teaches well. Tests are straightforward as long as you study and he makes it easy by telling you what to focus on for the exams.
Amazing teacher
without a doubt, he is the best professor I have ever had! just so informative, kind, and easy to talk to. If someone is stuck, he will stop and explain to them until they get it. you can really tell that he enjoys what he does. He is straight forward and tells you exactly what you need to study. There needs to be more professors like him.
Easily one of the most passionate professors I've ever had. He incorporates many real-world examples into in lectures that make the material easy and actually interesting to study, even if you're not a biology major. Study the notes packet and you'll be good, just be sure to pay attention to details.
Ron is easily the most patient person I have ever met. You can feel free to ask any questions in class and he will take the time to make sure you understand the material. He really knows what he's talking about. You will have to study a lot, but the tests are a little simpler than what you think they would be, and he really prepares you for them.
He knows his stuff. He's helpful and accommodating. His lecture notes are exactly what's on exams.
Bio 104, Lecture part 2 ,professor Ron Smith. # 1 professor !! His teaching methods, you will always remember. Hes very kind and passionate in his profession. If you have any questions, hes gladly will answer them. Makes sure pay attention in his lectures class. Highly recommended professor.
I'm feel very glad, that I the chance to take this amazing Ecology class, which was taught by none other than the BEST Prof Ron!! He's is truly amazing and someone whose truly defined as "the one who knows his stuff". This is my best experience at mercer, I would highly recommend everyone to take this Ecology class once!
Amazing professor! Just do yourself a favor and take any class that he offers. He truly cares about his students and their grades. He is super flexible and understanding so never hesitate to ask him anything. His notes are exactly what is on the exams so as long as you study them youll get an A.
He is one of the best professors you will ever have. He will prepare you for the exams, but it is imperative that you show up for class. Pay careful attention to the small details from his lecture notes, and make sure to learn pathways, hormones, and enzymes. Questions were always encouraged and he gives extra credit.
His class is tough. You must must must study the notes he gives you, because he makes up his test right from his notes. He is super fair. He tells you right up front to study his notes, because it'll be on the test. All you have to do study everything he gives you inside out and you'll pass. Amazing professor! Really cares and takes the time out.
Prof. Smith is alright. His lectures are a bit boring, but if you study the notes you'll get an A.
Amazing professor!!!!! Take him if you have the chance. As long as you study the material and pay attention in lecture you will receive an A.
Such a great professor! I actually looked forward to class because he was teaching it. He has a way of presenting material that seems so difficult and making it very understandable. He is also very big in answering questions so don't ever be shy in asking him anything. It was a pleasure having him and I wish somehow I could have him again. Amazing
Professor Smith is excellent. Clear, concise, to the point, and he's genuinely interested in what he teaches. I had him for both lecture and lab, and I had an awesome time taking him too. Go to his office hours, you can have amazing science conversations with him. He's very friendly as well, though he comes off as very serious, which I respect.
he is the best professror
The best teacher I ever had. I asked him questions that popped into mind all the time and every time no matter the question he had some scientific answer. He's the smartest man I know. He explains things very well and would make sure every student had a chance to ask questions for review of the test before he gave it. Gave extra credit too.
Professor Smith is an amazing professor whom truly cares about his students and teaches you only what you need to know and doesnt teach you extra things that you wont need to learn. Hes precise and gets to the point. This class may not be easy as it is but if you truly do study and pay attention youll pass without a doubt.
I love this professor! His lectures are detailed and easy to follow. He takes his time to explain and go over anything a student asks about. We had 3 extra credit assignments throughout the semester. He really cares about his students and is happy to sit with you to review and help you during his office hours.
Solid Prof. Took him during summer of COVID-19 online. Explains everything very clearly. To the point. Tests are very straight forward. Throws some curve balls here and there, but simple for the most part. Really enjoyed learning the content. Strict guy but overall nice. Follow along, make flashcards and you'll be get a A. 10/10 Prof.
I took this class online due to Co-Vid. Professor Smith's recorded lectures were so detailed and straight forward. I learned some hard concepts and have him to thank for helping me apply it through nursing school. I would recommend his class to anyone that has a genuine interest in A & P.
He's a great professor but very tough. His lectures are very much like any other science professor, they talk at you rather than to you. He's willing to answer any question during his lectures and labs but he doesn't always answer his emails in a timely manner.
I had him previously and was amazing but he doesn't seem to know how to do this remote/online class. The class was remote but he treated it more like an online class. He prerecorded his lectures but the quality wasn't good, sometimes there was no audio or it started going fast. The mouse wasn't always visible. He didn't post grades that often.
Prof. Smith explains perfectly and provides many examples during his lectures. Definitely, I recommend him.
5 week summer session - The work was clear & concise, grading criteria & expectations were clearly outlined from the start, assignments were labeled & appropriately deadlined. Even w/ abbreviated course parameters I was easily & confidently able to keep pace w/ the coursework between career & home obligations. A solid A professor. Would take again
Hybrid w/lecture vids on Bb & we can ask questions in class. We sometimes do hw assignments w/class if we go in person & have an easy online quiz each week. Test 1, Test 2 & Test 3 you must take in-person. If you feel confident in your work or need to stay home, you don't need to go to class except for the test days. Study notes & picture examples!
I love this dude! He knows literally everything and doesn't care when the class just asks questions out of curiosity. Incredibly humble/kind and doesn't let his PhD make him snobby and inaccessible. An absolute rockstar 10/10
He is by far the worst person I have ever met and does not care for the students whatsoever. I do not understand the need for his presence in the classroom at all, as he doesn't teach well and expects us to magically learn everything on our own. That class was a waste of my time and everything I learned, I learned with the help of my own willpower.
Ron Smith is truly one of the worst professors to ever exist. He epitomizes everything that is wrong with the college learning process. Not even close to caring for his students. Being a double major in education, I am taught first-hand what good teaching is; he has none of those qualities.
lo peor de lo peor THE WORST OF THE WORST!
Attendance is not required but if you have any questions hes amazing at explaining them in lecture. Homework is also gone over in class. Hes very particular with how you do your wording on exams. Be sure to go over the videos!
Great professor! Highly recommend!
I'm genuinely baffled by the negative reviews. He was a wonderful professor. Maybe what throws people off is that he's a little shy. He won't seek you out if you're struggling - you have to do that for yourself. But, if you do seek him out, he'll bend over backwards to help him. I highly recommend taking a class with this guy.
First off the people that are writing the bad reviews are people that didn't want to take the class serious and decided not to study. I took him for three different biology classes and if you actually study what he gives you, you'll pass. He's amazing. People just don't want to put in the work and call it hard or boring- welcome to college.
Prof Smith was honestly the most disappointing professor I have had within the science department, and within MCCC as a whole. His lecture notes are straight from the book, done with minimal effort to present the material any better. He responds promptly with an attitude sometimes to students. Overall, pretty poor teacher.
Expects students to understand concepts just because he wrote it in all CAPS. Instructions are unclear, no videos to follow with modules. Assigns ridiculous amounts of reading material, and answers on tests are vague. Do not recommend taking his online course if you're also working a full time job because you won't have time to read the material.
i have no clue how people had a bad experience with him. He was the best professor ive had at mercer. very good with answering questions in lecture and cared if you actually understood what he was saying. very good at simplifying the material and trying to help you understand everything.
A mediocre teacher. While sometimes interesting, his lectures often suffered from a monotone delivery and abstruse terminology and definitions. To summarize he is detached, uninterested and seems like teaching is a nuisance
Amazing professor! On of the best (I got MS in another country and I saw a lot of teachers in my life), he explains very clear.
He does lecture a lot but gives notes you can fill in to follow along. He's available outside of class. He tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests so as long as you study, you'll be fine. He recommends a textbook, but you don't have to purchase it. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will fail if you don't understand the material.
Phenomenal professor. In terms of what he expects of you, he is very clear with what you should know and what you shouldn't. He keeps you engaged and illustrates some concepts if you are a visual learner. Exam questions are straightforward and he won't trick you with trick questions. Wish I could have him for all my classes.
Hands down best biology teacher; try to get him for BIO103 & BIO104 if you can. Gets straight to the point and will answer any questions, even if they seem silly. He does seem monotone, but he's a nice prof. Even if you don't have him, ask him for his lecture videos if you are struggling. He does not gatekeep and hopes for others success!
Very clear on material and great at explaining what is needed to know to be successful in the course and outside of the course. I learned a lot in this class. Provides helpful videos/resources as well.
Offered a packet of notes at the starting of the semester and had to fill them out during the lecture. The lecture is also posted online so coming to class is not required, unless for an exam. The exams themselves are straight from the lecture notes. Very knowledgeable about the topics he teaches: knows the answer to nearly every question asked!
First semester and I can definitely say he's my favorite teacher. He explains the material very well and gives good notes, tells you what you should and shouldn't know, and generally very friendly. Definitely want him for 102.
Best A&P professor in MCCC. He gives you access to power points and is very thorough with his lectures. He answers any and all your questions and never makes you feel dumb. If you don't get a good grade in his class it's because you didn't even try.
I've had him for both BIO101 and 102 and he's the best professor I've ever had at mercer. If there were more like him I'd get a 4.0 every semester. He explains concepts very clearly, answers any question you have to the best of his ability, and is clear on exactly what material you need to study. 10/10.
I had him for 101, 102, & 204. He's constantly asking if anyone has questions and that you can come by his office for questions. He posts PowerPoints online which is very helpful. He's more than happy to review a test, quiz, or homework with you. If someone really doesn't like him, obviously you weren't trying hard in the class or studying much
Made his lessons very understandable and was very clear about how to pass the class
Professor Smith is an exceptional teacher. His lectures are engaging and he breaks down complex concepts clearly. Though attendance is mandatory, the PowerPoint slides are posted online, making it easy to review material. Unstuck study and the free textbook are also great study aids. If you put in the effort, you'll excel in this class.
Literally nothing but good words for him. I loved doing a lab with him so much. If I could, I would have him as my teacher for every biology class. He amazingly explained everything. I loved showing up to class because he made learning so interesting. He was always willing to help if you didn't understand something. The best professor ever.
Lab work was very little and he's always there to explain anything. Lecture is even better IMO because he gives a note packet you can use to follow the slides plus the slides are all posted online with recorded voice overs if you need it later. Couple options for extra cred. throughout semester. Clearly knowledgeable and passionate.
Lab Practicals were hard but he gave every resource you need. Very straightforward class and he is very helpful. First lab practical is way harder than the second just because there is a LOT of memorization. I took the honors lab and the project he assigned was very fun and he got us to go out in nature. overall 10/10 experience.
Best bio professor, if you can take him for A&P1 you really should. Super clear lectures, no accent. Lab Practicals are simple, just spend some time studying the models and slides in the Science Learning Center and you'll be good. His online lecture and lab videos are AMAZING! List out what u need to know for tests and you'll be golden :]
Hands down THE best professor I ever had! Insanely knowledgable, interested in what he's doing, and very friendly. I had him for many of my lectures/labs and he does a phenomenal job of explaining. He truly cares about his students! You can even go to him for help in finding internships/work/etc. He is the reason I succeeded so much at MCCC!
I would recommend, taking his class for Bio103, amazing professor, answers all and any questions students have. What he says will be on the test, will be on the test. He simplifies things but not too much for understanding purposes. He is a very visual when teaching, which is good for lab practicals. Definitely recommend!!
Best prof at MCCC
Absolute beast. He's the man.
