His Classes ARE A WASTE OF TIME!!! This joker takes attendance and uses it for a mark!!! He dosn't teach. he just chats with the class during every lecture. Don't go to class. get someone to take down attendance for you. Just read the book. u'll do fine.
I dont know what the big deal is. This guy is great. Sure you can get someone to do your attendance, but whats the harm in reading your book to pass your exams. Just read your chapters and you're sure to get an A,some of his insights do come for the exam
Ron thinks he is clear and helpful but he is not! I just think he can't teach and not that he does not want to teach. His countless attempts at explaining assignmnets and grading will only confuse you more. Avoid him!

Did anyone understand what he's talking about? The class was a joke, go in at break, sign the attendance do you case and go home.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Don't bother asking questions because he will never give you a straight answer. He explains how he wants something done and then says that you didn't do it right. He pretty much wastes three hours of your life every week that you will never EVER get back.
Avoid this guy at all costs. He does not explain anything, his marking is not consistant and he does not respond well to questions (he just stares back at you hoping you will walk away). what a joke, time to retire Ronny.
This guy doesn't do anything in class. All he does is have conversations to other students while everyone else just sits there and do nothing. You have to go class though to figure out what's going on with the assignments. As for your mark, well lets just say I'm taking this again in the summer!

interesting and easy projects and tests. prepare yourself for a boring long lecture every class. the only fun thing about his lectures is the analysis of the commercials.

take the class with someone else if you can, however he's not horrible. paying attention is not mandatory, attendance is, but get a friend to mark your initials down. he gives mid-range marks with little explaination or comments. if you're a C student, you cant go too wrong

Okay people.... you obviously don't know the secret. You have to go to his office and ask him what he wants. You do that and you will get the best marks in the class. TRUST ME! marks are not that hard to get from him, all you have to do is ask. I'm glad I had him for BUS800!
It is possible! I got an A- with this guy in this class!! The best BUS800 prof out there! Gave us hints for the final, very clear on what he wants on the assignments and very helpful! High marks to Ron!

Ron's lecture was an absolute waste of time! Ron isn't clear about the assignments and marks really hard. Don't bother asking him for help as he is really vague about what he expects.
one word HORRIBLE. if ryerson wants to save some money they can use his salary to purchase copys of powerpoint for the students cause the class consist of this aging ugmo reading straight from a projection screen ....either him, or ryerson should be shot for assisting him in his teaching career. sorry but someone had to say it .
Thank god I am doing this class online. I couldnt listen to him read off lecture slides and what have you for 2 or 3 hours. But he is a slow marker, he took 3 weeks to mark the first assignment. Take this class online, because you dont need to do all the readings, because the tests are online too !

Wow. The worst professor I've ever had. Astoundingly vague with his instruction and a big whiney baby. "Ohhh... this classs is so loud... whaaaaa" Shut up you tool! I'm not paying to hear you ****! It's a marketing communications class. You should expect to hear open discussion. AVOID THIS PROF LIKE THE PLAGUE!! (btw, i'm not a slacker - he's bad)
Terrible prof! Gives extremely vague instructions regarding assignments, and makes confusing illegible comments on your paper. His marking system is borderline black magic. C and D students will love him. You’ll learn more from reading the margin notes in the textbook than you will from him.

Doesn't understand that essays that state common sense information does not need to be cited. If that was to happen, then common sense wouldn't be needed to write a paper. all you would do is cite everything. This man is obviously a high school failure who faked his cerftificate and is teaching at Ryerson.

These other ppl must be dumb... this class is VERY interesting..sure he's boring but he makes you think and take responsibility..what, did u expect to be told what to do??? I skipped his lectures..read the textbook and guarantee A..great topics for future marketers!!!

To this day, I've yet to realize the benefit in attending his lecture (if you can call it a "lecture.") His tests are relatively straight-forward, however, from my own experience, the use of common-sense facts is strongly not recommended. Guaranteed "C."
WARNING: Boring prof, hard marker, little guidance, no point in coming to class (except for attendance marks), sexest, and biased! Avoid if possible.
The course content it self was interesting but the proff is just a disappointment. He is so boring, very unhelpful, unclear and a waste of time. When you go to him for help he makes it worse. However, his tests were simple and out of the text book.
SWITCH PROFS if its not 2 late. Not only is this guy a horrible prof (sits and reads of his ppts),he thinks he's the worlds gr8st ad critic.80% of the course is group work & this guy doesnt respect anyones opinions but his own. Isn't clear on instr.Never failed a GROUP ASSGN in 4 yrs until this guy came along.
Boring lectures, basically MKT 403 all over again. Case book was expensive, get a copy of it. 50% communications plan, make sure you get a good group. He gives no marking criteria so you basically have to guess what each part is worth. There are marks for attendance, so be sure you show up!
Get your marks from the 50% + 5% Bonus from attendance, two cases, campaign evaluation, and the bonus assignment. Even if you barley pass the final communications plan project (the other 50%), you'll still do ok. After taking MKT403 and 503, I see little use in attending his lectures (except for attendance).
If you have him, then GOOOD LUCK. U will never know what he expects from you, no clear instruction. In his world, only "MARKETING" ....
Key to doing well in Ron's class: READ text. It's all you need;PPT notes are pointless. Lecture = boring. Refer to text in ur weekly assignments (specifc concepts/words), campaign, and on short ans. on the exams. Mid-term & final, same thing; know text chapters. As for Ron, when u ask him a question, you'll NEVER get a straight answer.
He is boring, reads from powerpoints, class is pointless, however he does attendance and is worth about 20%. Study off the text book and practice the online m/c's. not a very hard course but lots of reading!

Attendance is mandatory in this class!! If u miss more than 2 classes, for example 3 classes, he starts deducting 2 percent per class!! And attendance is worth 10%, so that would mean you would get a 4/10. He is VERYYYYYY unclear in his expectations for assigments, so be sure to ask as many questions for clarfication as possible or u'll pay for it!
For an older, more distinguished man, he is quite the hottie with his silver rim glasses and chinos!
Still in the middle of taking his course. His online midterm test is ridicoulous. He disabled the feature to backtrack (in other words, once you submit an answer, you can't go back and change it or even check over your test before submitting it). WTF?!
I agree with the poster below regarding the disabling of the backtrack feature. When writing in-class tests, you are allowed to skip questions and go back later. Why would Professor Smith disable the same feature for online tests? Stupid if you ask me.
He seems out of it, I swear! Very unclear, vague, and has a weird habit of having NO opinion on a subject! "Do you guys like this ad? Yeah its good. We'll Im not sure. It could have been better. Umm, I don't know.." LOL
Look, for all of you that are worried about being in one of Ron's classes:RELAX. He's not that bad. Your textbook is your best friend. Read it, you'll be fine. As for assignments, don't expect perfect; the average is about 70%, TOPS. I've gotten an A & B in 2 of his classes. Jensen is GREAT for BUS800, but if you can't get him, Ron's ain't too bad.
Not bad prof. Basically reads off sides, but shows interesting ads from adcritic.com....be friendly and you will do fine.
Smart prof and make the lectures useful, when you dont want to soley rely on textbook! Definitely a fair marker, but must put effort into work, no half-assing it!
This guy can put a man that is on speed to sleep. he is smart and knows his stuff, it was just hard to stay awake in class because of his soft mono tone voice. you get the mark you deserve in his class.

make sure you attend class - he takes attendance and judges you for it. You could sit at home and read the slides - that's all the class is.. amazed he hasn't fell asleep actually. very boring, he should retire soon.
I ended up with a B-, but only because I put little effort in this class. Bad move. Your mark reflects how much effort you put in and how good your partners are for your final project. Read and immerse yourself in the book. Smith does make the class fun though, especially the current (business) events discussions.
This prof is easy. Study the text book (IMC),pick good group members, and you should be fine.
Ron is a fair marking prof, but his lectures are absolutely boring, and it makes no sense to make attendance mandatory. With that said, the cases require a lot of work and you must pay attention to details. It really helps if your a strong writer because if your not, your mark will reflect it. You can see the difference b/w a A paper and a C one.
Classes are so useless were all he does is talk nonsense and show uneccessary videos. His marking is hard. Take any prof but him, you would end up with a better grade. Also, he greatly judges you on participation where u would get a lower grade on cases if not participating in class. Ryerson should seriously consider getting rid of him.
oh.my.god. run away, run away, and then consider running some more. doesn't have opinion, very vague regarding assignments. rude. will punish you for not attending classes by giving you a lower grade on cases. hard to receive an explanation on why exactly you got the grade you got.
Mr. Smith is a good professor. He stays after class so you can ask questions about cases, and responds to emails promptly. He does not punish you for not attending class when grading your cases; by not attending class you do not know how to properly work through the case as he works with the class on a practice case. Overall, a strong professor.
Here's the deal. If u want learn anything go to Ron, if u are out for easy marks, go to Phil Walsh. I had friends with all the profs and when we got together to work on our final cases, it seemed only the people from Ron's class had a good idea of what was happening. This course is fair but req a lot of work, so make sure u got good friends w/ u.
Vague, wishy washy, contradictory, hard to stay focused on his boring mumbles. Little to no critiques on papers - if you pursue constructive feedback he will express frustration and arrogance. He definitely needs to improve!

This is the worst BUS 800 teacher by far. Drop it, I came very close to failing and I have a 3.7 GPA. I suggest taking it in the summer. I hear its a lot easier.
Might be top notch in the business world, but as a professor he is useless. Spent every class watching him try to figure out how to use google, and the rest watching useless videos. Changes his mind about what he wants every class, and will simply insult you if you go to him for help. Avoid him like the plague.

He is the worst professor at Ryerson University. He got upset while a student went to him for feedback (as he said "No one ever came to me for feedback about their exams!). What's wrong if a person wants to seek feedback for improvements while I was not trying to get more marks! Very low quality of professor!
