Best instructor I have had at BSU. Lectures are all so interesting. Test are tough but he gives GREAT study guide. Have to read the textbook. His lectures are PowerPoint but he provides a handout every class and he includes tons of video clips that make the class even more interesting. I would recommend this instrcutor to anyone.
While his class was easy, and he was entertaining, it was almost impossible to know when anything was due because he was always changing the due dates, and was really unclear about when things were actually due. That was frustrating. Also, his term paper format was really weird, and hard to follow to his specifications.
I did enjoy Ron's lectures. They were very informative and entertaining. I think his subjective grading needs to be clarified for students. I would advise students to ask for the prof evaluation after final projects and to be aware that conversations that may appear confidential to you may not be kept that way.
nice guy, very knowledgable. helped me out when some people in a group project tried to screw me over. tests are hard so read and study.
Very fascinating course with a prof who is enthusiastic
Hilarious but still knowledgable.
very interesting!!!
While I enjoyed his enthusiasm and self-deprecating humor. His subjective grading is questionable, and he frequently moves around due dates on account of the fact that he talks so much. So you might as well just throw your syllabus out the window, because he won't stick to it.
He's amazing. I love him and I wish I had him for every class.
So hard. He was unfair in his grading and his tests. He seemed very nice, but also seemed like he enjoyed marking everything wrong. I do well and work hard in all of my classes, but he managed to give me a C. I don't get C's. That was the only C I've ever gotten in my entire life. Study hard for his tests. You can't just study the night before.
very interesting
Very energetic, entertaining. Often held interest in class. However... I was able to catch him in many lies (especially stories he told about his past). Had to take everything he said with a grain of salt. Didn't teach for the tests... had to study out of book for the most part. He preferred to tell stories and show movie clips during lectures
While his lectures are entertaining, interesting, and often funny... he goes off on way too many tangents. He does not teach for the tests... the TAs do. Tests are very difficult with poorly written questions. Due dates get shifted often... very confusing. Nice, funny guy, but not recommended.
Changed my life. Really cares about his students. Tests may be hard, but they prepare you for graduate school. His lectures do not come from the text, so you learn material from both sources... getting the most out of the course. Loved it. Love him. The most dedicated teacher that I have ever had.
Tests are insanely hard! Nothing he covers in lecture is on it. However, lectures are pretty interesting, and he gives students alot of breaks if they are willing to work hard...I literally didnt pass one test and i got a B- in the class
Prof. Truelove is wonderful. He knows his subject throughly inside and out. He has many person stories to share that make the class more interesting. he is by far my favorite prof. He makes psychology so interesting. He made me want to get up at 7 am to go to class. I am looking forward to taking more courses with him.
DO EVERY EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT! I can't emphasize it enough. This class is MUCH harder than one would expect a 301 class to be. Tests are very tricky and difficult to study for. Put effort into reaction papers, though, and you'll do fine. He's nice and an engaging professor, but he comes off as a little arrogant at times. Overall, a good class.
Great experience. Teaches you a lot about life. Makes you laugh. I signed up for another one of his classes because social psychology was so interesting. Definitely worth your time to choose Truelove, the only drawback is that you actually need to go to class to do well. I got a B- but I tried pretty hard.
his classes are very hard, he was not helpful in either class i took from him! WHOEVER IF GIVING HIM PERFECT RATINGS IS CRAZY! i took health psysc 301 and social psysc 316
interesting
Ron Truelove is definitely one of the best profs that Ball state's psych department has. He is a gem!
Truelove is an amazing teacher. The class is hard, but it is definitely worth the effort. This class has literally changed my life and how I view myself and others. There are no words to describe how wonderful this teacher really is. I Recommend that everyone takes him, Psysc major or not.
Logic in grading is inconsistent; holds students to a higher standard than he himself maintains. Contrives reasons to justify limiting grade to minimum average.
Truelove is a decent guy, but he cannot write a test to save his life. He does not teach for the test, and loves to trick students. I do not recommend psych 301.
tricks you on the tests. tells you he is going to give the class extra credit and then the next class he claims he never said that. very frustrating. good teacher though and very interesting class to be in. lots of videos.
He makes class very interesting. He also has a great past to draw from and presents his lectures in an entertaining way. I would definitely take his class again and recommend that everyone take his class!!
Make sure you do your readings and attend SI sessions-- Sometimes he gives them test questions for students. Use your note card, in the smallest legible font possible. He goes very fast through slides, so get the notes from blackboard. Take the Syllabus quiz as many times as it takes to get a good grade. Some people take it 40 times-- It is hard!!!
Seems like the class is more of a game than a learning experience... doesn't lecture for extremely detailed and poorly worded tests, uses inquisit, takes attendance??, uses TAs for everything, tries and fails at all attempts of humor.
he is an interesting person that's for sure! i learned a lot from him and he definitely makes EVERYTHING interesting. his class is a class i never miss simply because i WANT to go. i would definitely take another one of his classes!
I absolutely love this class. It is the only class I enjoy going to. Ron keeps class interesting and time flies in lecture. Despite teaching to a large class, he actually cares about every single one of his students. If you approach him with a problem, he will do everything he can to help you out. Ron is the best professor at Ball State!
His class was fantastic! His class was one of the best classes I have taken. His tests are hard, but if you look over the study guides and book then you'll do fine. There probably won't be a reason why you would want to miss his class.
This class was great! My favorite I have taken here at school. It is challenging though, but it helps in the long run AND he makes it so interesting. He was a great prof and very willing to help his students succeed
Ron is one of my top profs. I have ever had. He is very student orientated and makes his lectures very interesting so you actually learn something. His exams can be a little tricky but if you study it correctly you can get a decent grade
Although his lectures are worth attending just because they are so interesting, the class is about impossible. I learned a lo but you would never be able to tell that I attended class by the time i took the test. It was so aggravating to study so hard and do every extra credit thing possible, and still couldn't pull of a B in the class.
i absolutely loved this class. i went to lecture not because i had to, but because i wanted to. he is extremely funny and entertaining and i have learned so much. unfortunately there aren't many other grades besides the exams so you do have to work hard come test time. but it really is a great class.
Very interesting lectures. Real enthusiasm. Tough exams but always fair. Changes dates but always backwards so you have more time not less.
Truelove is AMAZING!! I might be biased because I'm a psych major, but I think that anyone could use this class. He gives fantastic, interesting lectures and lets the class vote on what they want to learn. What he doesn't cover are given in review sessions; all over decently hard course, but go to lecture & review and you'll be fine.
he's awesome and really keeps your interest. he doesn't just teach the information. he gives you examples and wants you to understand. it's not an easy class, but it's not a burden to study
Truelove was one of my favorite professors. his class wasn't very easy but it was fun and he was always very helpful if you asked for his help.
Cannot stop talking. 75% of test material will not be covered because of endless rambling and repetition of useless anecdotes.
Best professor ever! I took a few classes with him, and he is the best! He is very passionate and knowledgeable, especially regarding forensics. The only professor that I looked forward to having classes with. His classes are not easy, but if you keep up on your outside work and do the study guides, you will be fine. Very kind and honest.
Overall his class was really interesting. You could tell he was really passionate about everything he was teaching and he told some really good stories. One of my favorite teachers! The class itself is a little challenging, you HAVE to read the book to do well on the exams. Also he changes due dates ALOT but it is always to the students advantage.
he was a very hard teacher. he was interesting but would go on about things that werent on the test. i went to the si study sessions and they is what got me through this class. the two papers u have to write are awful unless u know apa format!
Hard Class. Great Professor
Great professor, great class. I enjoyed going to his class each and every day. You learn interesting stuff as well. His tests can be hard if you do not study, but if you go to the study sessions, you should be fine.
Fantastic professor!! Class isn't easy at all, though. He offers lots of extra credit, but don't rely on it for a good grade. Go to his classes- he's hysterical :)
Great time in class makes you think and you do walk away with something you will remember the rest of your life. Almost added a major but that would have been a triple major.
Great Professor! he's always there to help you individually. Class is very interesting and he is very honest and uses his life to teach you lessons. I missed class once and i felt terrible because i know i missed out! He makes things fun and easy to understand. If you get a chance, take his classes!!!
Ron truly cared for his students. He took the extra time and effort to make sure we understood the material and helped us on exams. He let us take all exams except the final twice and with a 5x7 notecard. Class isn't dificult, just have to study. Gives extra credit throughout that helps a lot! Definitely get him!!
Great prof take his class if you get the chance.
This professor is amazing. He is passionate about his subject and very enthusiastic. It was my favorite class ever in the past two years.
He might be a fun professor but the amount of work you have to do is ****. Do not take.
Truelove made psychology actually enjoyable. He uses video clips and stories to get the interest of the class. I never enjoyed learning so much ha. I would go back to the smoking section and tell everyone what I had learned after each class. The class is not easy, but you will enjoy it.
He is really odd -- but he makes Psych interesting. The homework is such a waste of time -- not really worth it!
Interesting class. Took it as an elective and glad I did, learned a lot about health psych from him. Told lots of stories to keep it interesting. Tests weren't too difficult if you studied. Grades the papers hard though so make sure to follow all instructions and figure out what he's asking for.
VERY hard class. He keeps lecture mostly interesting but you must read the chapters in his textbook in order to get a good grade. I never kept up with the chapters but if you want a better grade than a C, then you must bust your butt. You must go to lecture to get his lecture notes considering you cannot find the notes in the textbook. So good luck
Ron's class was honestly my favorite class. I loved going even if my section met at 8 am. He always kept things interesting. However, his class takes a lot of work. Go to the SI sessions! They help! Do your work and don't procrastinate on the paper. I promise the hard work pays off!
I love this class! He's a great guy who really cares about his students and his job. I never wanted to miss lecture because it was interesting. you have to work hard to get a good grade, but every minute is worth it.
keeps lectures fun and gives breaks when he can tell that the class is drifting off. never a dull moment in the class!
Ron is a great professor, my favorite by far. He makes psych interesting and makes you question things. Not the easiest class, but if you do the work you'll be fine. SI sessions help. Lectures were fun; I looked forward to them. At least take Psych 100 with him, you won't regret it.
Great Prof! I really looked forward to his classes and always enjoyed them. You do have to work to get a good grade, but that is what college is all about kids. Just do what he suggests for tests and you'll be fine. Always made psych interesting and made it relate to real life. Will never forget the time he pulled out his false teach 2 proveapoint.
All around great guy! His class was so interesting and entertaining. I would take another one of his classes if I could. One of my favorite Profs!
Forensic Psychology. His energy is awesome. His interest and knowledge is baffling. He truly does care for his students. But there is so much miscommunication that it makes it impossible to do much of anything correctly at times. He forgets what he says frequently and becomes defensive- even when then entire class agrees. But he does care.
I took Psychology as an online course with Truelove as my professor. I really wish that I had actually taken his campus course because his teachings seem to be fun and intriguing. I got behind on my online course and he went out of his way to ask me how I was doing multiple time and offered help and encouragement to get finish the course.
Easy class if you listen and actually go. I got an A because I wasn't a moron and I did EXACTLY what he said in lecture. Great prof. I'd recommend him especially for night class. 3 hours is long but once a week.. you can't beat that. Plus, you ALWAYS get out early. Ha. :)
Awesome prof. Best & most interesting class for fun. He always had my attention and he is hilarious! Exams are hard- so attend the review sessions and SI sessions. Great class!
He's one of the best professors I've ever had. He's interesting, informative, and really knows his stuff. Especially since he worked in the field. He not only taught about important things in the class, but he taught valuable life lessons as well. If you have an opportunity to have him as a professor, do it!
The classes were very interesting and it was very easy to understand. As a teacher and during class he was very helpful. On the downside he has a massive ego and if you say anything that could hurt it at all (no matter how small) the class will be hell and he will develop a personal bias against you
Greatest professor in the world. He actually cares about his students and does so much to try and help them. LOVE THIS GUY!!!
greatest prof i've had a bsu to date! such a wonderful person. he TRULY cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. crazy amount of extra credit, study sessions, homework quizzes you can retake till 100%. he does everything to help you out. your fault if you do poorly! love this guy.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful man! Truelove seriously cares about his students and does everything to help them succeed. He LOVES teaching, and uses video clips and demonstrations in lecture. Lecture is very interesting. He is hilarious and energetic. YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU WILL HAVE SO MUCH FUN.
Ron is an engaging teacher who loves the subject he teaches. I did not take any psychology in high school, but I found the class really wonderful. It takes a good work ethic to be able to do well in this class, but if you come to lecture, attend the SI session, read the chapter, and do the homework (just like any other class), you should be fine.
I really liked going to Ron's lecture. He is very entertaining. His class does require effort. You have to STUDY for his tests. You also had to write 2 reaction papers...ugh. Overall, I enjoyed his class but I am glad to be done. I would recommend to anyone just be prepared for the work.
Ron is fantastic, he is a little offensive but if you can look past that he is great, also he really cares about his students and will do anything he can to help you.
This class is very difficult due to the tests, plus the annoyances of two reaction papers. However, Ron is a FANTASTIC professor who obviously loves what he does. Show up everyday because of in-class question points and PAY ATTENTION. He's super approachable and overall a great guy. Have him if you want an awesome classroom experience.
Ron is a great professor. His class is very difficult, and you will have to read the textbook if you want to do well on the tests, but he's a really fun teacher who knows a lot about what he teaches, especially in forensic psych. If you want an easy A, don't take his class, but if you want to learn a lot from a great teacher, definitely take him.
LOVED THIS TEACHER! Class was very interesting and the work load was managable. The tests took some effort, but are fine as long as you study. Hes definatly one of my favorite classes at BSU.
Best teacher i hav eever had. I am not even majoring in psych, but he made it so much fun and so interesting. if you want to enjoy class and be excited to go to class, even at nights, then i promise you will not be disappointed
Great teacher, I loved his class everyday that I went and he always kept it really interesting. The class itself was a little bit tricky but after the first couple of quizzes you begin to figure out how his class works.
One of realist people I've ever met. He's one of the only "teachers" who's actually ever educated me.
Awesome Teacher! Great Class and very interesting! :)
By far the greatest professor I have ever had! He makes everything interesting. You will actually want to go to class. I had him for psychology; consists of 2 exams plus the final, and two papers. He lets you take exams more than once. He does almost everything to get you a good grade. best teacher ever!
Ron is the best teacher I have had, if you have the opportunity to take and courses with him, do it!
Truelove is an awesome person. Has a lot of great stories. Really knows his stuff. DO NOT TAKE. He's more of a preacher than a teacher. I learned NOTHING in his class.
he is the best teacher Ive ever had. His classes are so interesting! I actually enjoyed showing up. I wish my major was psych so i could take more. If you can have him do it!
Truelove is an awesome professor, but if you're not a hard worker don't even think about getting him. His course isn't easy, but it is passable if you put a full effort into it. Best professor on campus.
He. Is. Awesome.
As long as you do your work you will do fine in this class. His tests are a little hard but you are allowed to take them twice. He is helpful if you don't understand something.
I was lucky to get into his class as a freshman, he is very popular. He has a passion for what he does unlike any other professor or teacher I have had.
Truelove is the best!!!!! He keeps you interested and actually cares about students doing well. His tests are hard but you can take them twice. He is such a nice man!!(:
Great class with an amazing professor! Ron makes this class so enjoyable and makes the material as interesting as possible to learn. The class can be difficult at times, but as long as you show up to class and study for the exams you'll do fine. I highly recommend taking a class with Ron!
One of the most inspiring professors I have had during my college career. His experience in Forensic psych is so inspirational and interesting, he will have you hooked. He also truly cares about his students and will do anything he can to help. Highly recommend this professor!
Great, I mean GREAT guy
AMAZING TEACHER!!!! made me consider changing my major to Psych
I do not recommend taking 471 online. There is no interaction and it is too difficult. If you have a choice, take his on campus classes.
His is very good professor and makes his class interesting. The work can be a little difficult, exams are challenging, but you get to take them twice. however if you stay on top of it and study you will be fine! I managed an A without much struggle! definitely recommend this course & prof!
The Best Teacher I ever had!!! He has great stories and keeps you interested at all times! Also show great video clips!!! You only have to write two papers the whole semester and he gives you multiple attempts on test!! Overall an amazing class and a wonderful teacher!!
He's a cool guy with interesting material. However, 50% or more of material on the test is through reading (LOTS OF READING). It is almost impossible to get a hold of him. You have to go through T.A.'s who are often not as well informed as they think they are. Very smart man, and very interesting, but hard to undertand.
Great entertainer, poor teacher/facilitator of learning. More interested in catching you up than in assessing your level of understanding of the subject matter. Caught him in multiple lies about his past and his personal life, trying to build up his own giant ego. He clearly doesn't think much of himself when he's all alone with his thoughts.
Awesome teacher. Made the class fun and enjoyable to be at. Made a boring subject worth taking
He is amazing!!!
Told entertaining stories but that was about it. He spends more time trying to entertain you than actually teach you the material. He often won't answer questions and makes his TA's do the majority of the "dirty" work. Getting a hold of them is nearly impossible at times and they often refuse to help you with most things. Good Luck...
He was by far my favorite professor I have ever had! I would take any class that he offers. You do have to work hard for your grade, but going to class is actually fun.
I loved this guy. He made the class entertaining as it could be. He used Iclicker points for attendance. 2 papers for the semester that were worth a lot. The tests were hard, but not impossible to do well on. If you put in the work you will get an A.
I loved this class! Ron makes everything he teaches interesting. His tests are somewhat difficult so be sure to take good notes! If you want to enjoy learning, I recommend any of his classes.
He makes the lectures very interesting but outside of the classroom he is another person. He doesn't admit when he made a mistake and if he does he tries to somehow blame the class. He repeats himself constantly and it gets annoying but everyone is too afraid to tell him because he'll snap!
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. He is very rude. He says one thing and then goes back on his word. The work load is way too much for a 100 level course. Most of the information that comes from his tests are from the textbook. I've never had a teacher who was so rude to me in an email and accused me of something when he was wrong.
PHENOMENAL professor, love, love, love this class and this professor. He really keeps you entertained in class, there is never a dull moment. His stores are amazing! Stay on top of your work and its easy to succeed, procrastination will kill you.
He is awful. The TA's do everything. He rambles on about nothing usually. He never gets through all the notes for the class. Very hard to do well in the class. I wouldn't suggest taking one of his classes.
Very difficult for a 100 level class. I am at Ball State on an Academic scholarship, have A's in every class and received a B in this class. It is truly impossible to do well unless you can memorize 5 chapters from the book and his lectures for the test. Good luck if you have him.
He is wonderful and keeps you engaged in lecture, but the tests are impossible. I studied for the first one two weeks prior and still failed. I always did worse the second time which I have no clue how that happened. He gets snippy when you email him so always just email your TA. TOOOOOO HARD. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR A 100 LEVEL COURSE.
Most rude and arrogant person I've ever met in my life. He's lazy and will belittle you. No one ever asks him questions because were all afraid he'll snap! Impossible tests unless you can remember 5 chapters word for word. Rude SI leader who is even less helpful than he is. IF YOU HAVE HIM DROP HIM LIKE ITS HOT.
Homework is easy. Tests are almost impossible. If you email him a question he gets snappy, and usually just tells you to ask your TA. Not Helpful. You do get extra credit opportunities. He is entertaining in class, which is good because he takes attendance everyday. Don't expect an answer if you have questions, especially in class!
Most intelligent teacher I've ever had, and easily the best entertainer. You actually learn a lot of valuable information from this class. He's very passionate about what he does. The only real problem people seem to have with the class is the curriculum being to much to memorize for the tests, but that isn't his fault. He's just doing his job.
I thought I liked psychology... but I ended up switching my major after his class. He makes it way too hard and he's so set in his ways maybe he doesn't realize how difficult he's making the class?
Yes, his tests are hard, but he does keep you engaged in class. I got a D or F on every test, aced the final because he gave us the questions and got an A in the class. Do the homework, get your iClicker points, and do well on the reaction papers and you'll be fine. He's not as horrible as everyone seems. I'll take getting an A.
Patronizing, rude, and disrespectful professor. Sure, his lectures were entertaining and interesting, but lecture was the only thing I enjoyed about the course. His TA's do all the grading. If you ever have questions, the TA's often don't know the answer and he's extremely rude if you ask him. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
You cannot ask this guy anything. His automatic response is defensive and accusatory, or he'll blow you off and act like you're unimportant. Do yourself a favor and don't take him if you are paying to be educated rather than derogated.
The exams were ridiculous. Only way I passed was because I did all of the homework, received all of the attendance points, and did extra credit opportunities. Interesting lectures, but a large amount of stress and work for a level 100 class.
I took this class in Fall 2013. What he said in class was very inconsistent with what actually went on. Said he was going to give all the questions on the final (word for word). Maybe half were actually there. Said he was going to give 30 points EC and gave 25. Sent him an email and he said I was wrong. Tests are okay. Do the work and maybe get a B
Favorite teacher at BSU! Every time I could take his class I did. Maybe he was tough, but if you did the work, you got a good grade. He offers enough EC that no one should fail. His lectures are always so interested that I tried my best not to miss class.
He is a great professor. He keeps you entertained in class. His tests are like impossible but he gave us every question on the final word for worth with the choices on about 1/3 of them. If you do the homework and show up to class and do well on your Reaction papers (which aren't as hard as they seem) you should be fine...
I have now taken 3 classes with Ron and I have to say that he is my favorite instructor at Ball State. Although the tests are difficult, the reaction papers are easy points and he offers quite a bit of extra credit. You also get to take the tests more than once usually. He always keeps lecture interesting, I really look forward to his classes!
I enjoyed having Ron as a professor so much that I looked forward to going to class! He makes every class interesting. He makes outlines for taking notes which tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. His test are kinda difficult but as long as you study you'll be fine!
He offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, he puts lecture notes online and all you need to do is print them off and fill in the blanks during lecture, you are allowed to take his test 2 times. He is here for YOU and wants you to succeed. Highly recommend him.
Great teacher and lectures. Papers are APA grammar focused and annoying for me. The tests are challenging but you can take them twice (the first time, I get around 60%-70% The second time, I get in the 90's%). For homework, you have aplia (need textbook) due every Sunday (except test weeks) at 11:45PM but they are pretty easy, a tad long for some.
Great professor! Highly recommend him! I learned a lot! HW each week is kind of long, takes about an hour but he takes highest score. You can take tests twice and it gives you the right answer after 1st try, I always got an A. Most pts on papers are from formatting, so not very hard. USE THE EXAMPLESSTUDY GUIDES ON BB! SI sessions are helpful.
great professor! He is very difficult when it comes to his papers and tests. He cares about his students a lot. I went to his office to pick up my paper and he gave me extra points for meeting up with him and talking it through! I made stupid mistakes but it was a great paper he said so he gave me extra points. Make an effort and you will do fine!
Amazing Prof! He genuinely cares about his students and their success rate in his course. If you need help, reach out! Will have to do some independent reading for some chapters. DO THEM. they are on the exams. otherwise he is a wonderful man all around and you shouldn't get less than a B if you do the work.
You have to buy the book because you need the access code to do your online homework, which is due every week (except there's no homework if you have a test that week). You have to write two papers (4 pages minimum) but they're graded based on your APA formatting. I wrote mine the night before and got a 92%. The SI sessions are really helpful.
He's really funny in class and although I hadn't ever personally talked to him one on one, I was sad the last day of lecture. BUT what everyone says is true, even AFTER the semester is technically over and your TA's aren't there to answer your questions. I e-mailed about a grade in Blackboard with all due respect only to get a rude e-mail back.
I loved him as a professor, however, I barely passed the class. Three words of advice: STUDY STUDY STUDY. Although, I probably would have done better if I hadn't chosen it as an 8am. zzzz
My favorite teacher. He really made lectures interesting and fun. I was actually disappointed when class was canceled. I-clickers are used for attendance and if you do not come to class you will not pass. Lectures will help for the exams and also the textbook helped me a lot. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS ( so helpful ).
Quite possibly the best professor out there. Super enthusiastic about the material and loves teaching freshman Psych. Wants to end the stigma regarding depression and other mental illnesses which I respect. You can ask him for help, but he's old and often misunderstands your question leaving you with bad info. Cool guy and I would take again.
It will take work, but it is well worth it.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Loved him, He is soo helpful and willing to explain anything no matter how many times you ask. He is honestly wonderful.
Professor Truelove is quite honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. In the first five weeks of class, he has changed due dates twice without notice and has gotten angry at you when you ask him about them. He ignores the assigned syllabus (which is important in an online class). He also comes across arrogant and condescending in emails
I could not stand this guy. Truelove has an ego big enough to fill the lecture hall. He lets all of his TA's do the work, so if you have a bad TA, well then prepare for an awful semester. He is also very rude when asked a question.
Remotely interested easy A. Even if you're not, everyone there is very easy to talk to and understanding. They know how brains work, duh!
The material isn't easy but it's interesting. The tests can be hard. It all depends on how much you're willing to study for them. He had a stroke last year and stumbles over his words every once in a while, but you can tell he still knows all his stuff. He really wants you to do well, and as long as you're willing to work for it, you will do well
He's such a sweet old man. He wants his students to pass and does his best to help them to do that. He has a large amount of TAs to help him and they're just as helpful. I'm in his 8am and he tries his best to make his lectures interesting to stay awake in. He's incredibly understanding and does his best to make everyone feel comfortable.
easy A
Professor Truelove is an amazing person with a huge heart. He cares so much about his students. In my personality class, you have about 4 papers to examine someone's personality, 2 reaction papers, and 2 exams. They are easy if you put in the work and come to class. He is great about helping you understand what you did wrong. I would take again.
Professor Truelove is very passionate about the psychological sciences and it shows in lectures. He wants the stigma associated with mental illness to disappear. I loved going to class. He did a wonderful job teaching the course despite his stroke. The tests are tough but manageable if you study hard. Very interesting course!
Despite having suffered from a stroke earlier this year, Truelove is still an amazing professor. I actually looked forward to my 8am class! His lectures are entertaining and hilarious and he truly wants to see his students succeed. That said, prepare to do a LOT of reading/work on your own. Don't skip class or you'll miss out on a lot. Good luck!
This class was very hard but he was more than willing to help. He would reply to e-mail almost instantly and was willing to meet to go over some concepts as well. My only complaint is how tough the tests are. I failed this class due to an F on the first exam even though I got B's on the other tests.
If you take his class, you will find out that he has been through a lot personally, he loves sharing his stories, but he relates them to class. The semester before I had him, he had a stroke, which really distorted his clarity in lectures. Other than that he is great and is extremely helpful. He will do anything for students to help them succeed.
I didn't hate going to lecture because he usually kept it pretty interesting. But, there are two papers to write and 4 tests. With the test he would only teach a chapter or two but we were expected to know 5 chapters. He was nice and wanted us to do well but sometimes it felt overwhelming with all he didn't teach us but we were expected to know.
Has his TAs do majority of the work but his lectures are interesting. Majority of his test questions are on quizlet and most of the time he gives you the questions but don't go to him for confusion or questions
He is very fun and likes to make you laugh but it is the hardest class I have ever taken. My papers I had to have him regrade because my grades were wrong. The tests were also very difficult even though he gave you the questions before the test.
Dr. Truelove is an amazing professor. He had a stroke about a year ago, which affected a part of his brain that controls his speech. However, he always makes fun of himself, and you know what he is saying. He is so kind and will do anything for a student to be successful. I went to his office hours, and he would help me study or look over my papers
Dr. Truelove is an inspiration! He truly cares about ALL of his students and their success.
Truelove was cool. I attended every one of his classes because I truly learned something interesting every time. He assigned 3 papers. Make sure you write the way he wants (take them in to his office for feedback) and then you will find success! Communicate with your professors!
He makes his lectures interesting. The papers are a little difficult, but he is willing to help. He lets you take the tests twice.
Has TAs do all the work, the only thing he does is give lectures & half the time it's off topic from what will be on an exam. His TAs are pretty bad at replying to emails within 24 hours, with the exception of very few. He does not prepare you for exams AT ALL. He's an interesting guy but a terrible teacher & makes things way harder than necessary.
Good professor, only have two papers the whole semester. Let's you take exams twice
I really enjoyed his class, he has a lot of TAs that grade his stuff. Overall you have to write two reaction papers, book is cheap and has APA formatting in the back, and there are total four tests. Also he drops lowest score.
LOVE THIS GUY. Watched a lot of movies (like 5), and each movie received extra credit points for a 1 page reflection. Guided notes, easy tests. Allows 2 attempts on every test. Only 3 tests and will do a drop score. One term paper (easy) Gives lots of life advice and shares stories. Such a sweet heart.
Dr. Truelove truly loves teaching, and deeply cares for all of his students. I enjoyed this class, he shows video clips to solidify what he's teaching, and it really enriches your experiance. He really wants so bad for you to pass especially if you're taking psych 100. If you take advantage of whats available there's no way you'll fail.
Ron is a great guy, and I took this class as a senior so it was pretty cut and dry just like a typical large lecture class here at Ball State. For incoming freshman doing the needed work was hard for most. The lectures were pretty boring, and you NEED the textbook for the tests. All three tests were able to be taken twice in a lab.
He's such a funny professor, and overall quirky. He's super caring, especially towards his students and their mental health. He loves to teach and it's very clear that he's passionate about what he does. There are two research papers, YOU HAVE TO READ. Don't skip class, you won't want to anyways. Overall, he's the best professor here in my opinion.
He is awful. So condescending and full of himself. He missed 8 classes and yet grades super harshly on the large term paper and three film papers. Two exams-midterm and final: all based on about 7 chapters each. Most of us got C's.
He cares about his students and gives them SEVERAL opportunities to succeed. There are two 4-page research papers, graded almost entirely only on APA formatting correctness, not content. You get multiple attempts on all exams except the final. You are also able to drop your worst test/paper grade except the final. SI sessions help tremendously!!!
He's an amazing person and I love his lectures. He does only have 4 things that determine your grade, 2 tests and 2 papers, but he gives the option for extra credit and lets you take the tests twice
Professor Truelove is great. Helps class to not be so boring. The class is based on 3 tests and 2 papers. You have multiple attempts on the tests and they come right off the notes. He gives you fill in the blank notes that are very helpful. The two papers are difficult. The TAs will count you off for every little thing. Would still recommend.
Professor Truelove is an amazing professor. He cares about all his students and wants everyone to easily pass his class. Gives plenty of resources for the two papers you have to write and the tests were not too hard. SHOW UP TO CLASS EVERY DAY. He has a lot of iClicker questions.
I love Professor Truelove. He is funny, experienced and cares about his students. His lectures are interesting. PSYS 471 is my favorite class. He doesn't take attendance but you have to show up in order to get the notes that you need for the tests. He loves when you talk so make sure you ask questions and/or show him that you know stuff.
Professor Truelove is such a great professor! You need to attend lectures because he gives all the notes during class but he also makes class super interesting. He genuinely cares for us students and it shows! There are not many grades in the class, 1 paper, mid-term and final so make sure you put in some effort.
Very passionate about psych and teaching. my class had 7 TAs who grace everything,2 research papers and I dont think they even read the content but are VERY picky about APA formatting. Tests are SO easy if you go to the SI sessions. Make sure you go to class-lots of iclicker points. He drops lowest test/paper,If you try youll get an A. I got a 98%
I absolutely love Mr. Truelove. He really cares about his students grades and his lectures are full of good material. Ive really learned a lot from one semester of his class.
Ron is a good guy, but it took me a while to get used to his sense of humor. He is really caring and a down to earth guy. He is very honest and straight to the point. If you have to take Psych 100 and you have the option, choose Ron. He doesn't take attendance but his lectures are information heavy so you don't want to miss, but they aren't boring.
I absolutely love Professor Truelove. He's such a sweet old man. He's very knowledgeable and his lectures are interesting. Even though attendance is not mandatory, you should come to class and get the notes. But it's worth it! Most of the grading is done by the GA.
Professor Truelove is an ok professor, and can come off as a little goofy, but he is a very nice old man. I personally thought his tests were really tough, even though lecture is not mandatory, you need to go to class to pass the tests. One of his flaws was that he mixed up certain definitions, but it was no big deal. He selects excellent TA's.
He truly cares about his students and their well being, gives amazing lectures with outlines of the notes. The papers are graded ENTIRELY on APA formating!!!! you could write the worst paper of you llife and as long as you fit the guidelines youll get an A and he'll drop youre lowest of the 4 tests/papers you write
There's like 3 chapters that he doesn't lecture over so you need the textbook for just that. You're supposed to read it the whole time but as long as you go to class you're just fine. His lectures are great and you can really tell that he's passionate about teaching.
Ron Truelove is not a good person. He is very vulgar and distasteful in his lectures. He makes everything way too sexual and assumes that because we are college students we will think it's funny. His tests are pretty tough and the papers are mostly graded on APA format, but his twisted and sexual sense of humor is what makes Ron a very unfit prof.
this guy doesn't even do any work in the class. he makes all of his TA's grade papers, assignments, and do work on blackboard. he makes every thing sexual and it's uncomfortable. i don't like hearing about it from a 60 year old man. he skews our views on things we learn with his own opinions. his lectures are unorganized; i'm not learning anything.
Very interesting lecture but he has a tendency to get behind schedule. Relies heavily on his army of TA's which makes grading weird. Grading on papers is very harsh. Overall, Truelove is a very nice man with a lot of interesting stories and he usually knows what he is talking about.
Ron is a hilarious guy and really loves and cares about his students. There are no quizzes, only exams, and all exams are allowed to be taken twice--even the final. There are only two research papers for the whole semester, and one exam or research paper is allowed to be dropped from your grade.
Truelove is a solid choice for a psych prof. He does have an interesting sense of humor that is not for everyone and it made me a bit uncomfortable at times but he means well. TA do all of the grading, he doesn't grade anything himself. You have two papers and four tests that you get to take twice (even the final). test are 8/10 difficult.
Truelove does a great job of making lecture interesting & fun to attend. Attendance is not mandatory, but tests are lecture note heavy. There is a syllabus quiz, 2 tests & a final, all of which you get 2 attempts. There are also 2 papers! If you attend 8 SI sessions, you get extra credit & 25 free q's for the tests! Drops lowest grade at the end!!!
Professor Truelove was one of the best professors I have had since being at BSU. He truly does care and has some interesting stories. He is super funny and inspirational.
Hes the kind of professor that everyone should have. He genuinely cares about his students and his classes fly by. Hands down my favorite teacher. It would be an honor to be his student again.
Ron is a great teacher who cares about his students and their education. He usually has music playing as you walk into the classroom, and he makes jokes during lectures. His lectures are very engaging, and I've learned a lot from him. I have this class at 8:00am, but I've never not wanted to go.
Ron was amazing. He was one of my first professors at Ball State that I felt cared about me truly. He makes lectures interesting and engaging. I would highly recommend!
Professor Truelove is an amazing professor. He makes class fun and interesting. It is an easy A if you show up to every class and take the notes from the PowerPoints. There are only two papers you have to write, and they are very simple APA. I got a 96 on both of them. The exams aren't difficult if you read the book and study your notes. Have fun!
Professor Truelove definitely has a sense of humor, he makes lecture very funny and keeps your attention. The class grade is made up of 2 papers, 2 tests, and a final. The reflection papers can be tricky but aren't anything to stress about if you stay on task. You can two chances on each test and then they average your two scores.
Truelove is an amazing professor. It is very easy to pass his class if you put in effort. There are 4 exams, including the final exam, and 2 research papers. Your lowest grade out of these 6 will be dropped. His lectures are very interesting and he is a hilarious professor. He's a tad raunchy, but past that he was an impeccable professor. 10/10
He draws you into the class thinking that it will be a very straight forward, but then you take the fist exam, where the questions are confusing and quite the opposite of what he described the exams to be like. I do not recommend taking this class with him. Maybe he is better in his other classes, he seems to be nice, but I will not take another.
Professor Truelove is a great teacher, hands down. He teaches you about psychology, but in a way you can relate it to your life.
I think Ron is a good guy and a decent professor BUT the fact that he lets his 7 or 8 Teaching Assistants not only grade your tests and paper, but are the ones who make the tests and approve paper topics is awful. Your grade on your papers might as well be decided by how strict of a grader your assigned TA is. This class was awful because of them.
Super friendly professor! He made lecture entertaining & enjoyable. The class is super easy besides the two papers.
Professor was kinda funny and clearly knows what he's talking about but his TA's sucked and messed up on test questions and made looking at your grade a pain in the ass
No attendance, no homework, no extra credit. Sounds good right? wrong. All grades are based on tests and two papers. His TA's come up with the tests, approve hypothesis for papers and grade them. He's a funny guy with interesting lectures, but it's almost impossible to do well if you suck at taking tests. study HARD if you wanna pass.
Ron is a lot of peoples favorite professor. sometimes he can be a little unclear but if you talk to him he will clear it up. the lectures are very entertaining and interesting. there are a lot of film reaction papers, but as long as you make many valid points you will be good. tests are fine but you have 2 chances to take them so it should be easy
I absolutely love Ron! He's such a sweet old man and he isn't afraid to get personal with us. He's got a bit of a raunchy sense of humor which I absolutely love. There are two big papers in this class but other than that it's not too time consuming. I'd definitely recommend taking Ron's class no matter what your major is.
He is an amazing Prof. His past alone completely qualifies him as a teacher. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in Psych.
He gives two tries on every test and you get to see the right answers on your first try. You only have to write two papers but APA is VERY IMPORTANT. He keeps lecture very interesting and the class is very easy.
I love Ron and his way of lecturing but I am not the biggest fan of how involved TAs are in all the assignments. They make and grade assignments and they're also super rude about how you email them. Feels like they like a power trip to me.
My favorite professor! I had at 8 a.m. and I rarely missed his class! He made lecture very interesting! Tests are based on lectures, but he will always tell you what is important for the test. He really just wants everyone to pass the class. He occasionally gave extra credit opportunities which was very helpful.
Mr. Truelove gives fun lectures because of his personality, but lack of attendance and no homework means your grade relies on a few papers and exams. If you are not good at taking exams, do not take this class with him because you will likely fail it.
Just hear me out. At the beginning of the semester, you will probably consider dropping the class bc of Truelove's rambling. But trust me, after the first few weeks it gets so much better. Your grade will also be mainly made up of 2 big research papers. As long as you are ready to work you will be okay.
Class consists of two research papers and three tests. You get multiple attempts for each test and you can drop your lowest research paper or test grade. He is funny, but struggles with technology. It was hard to stay awake in this class at 8am because of the lack of interactivity. Also, research papers are graded by TAs so hope you get a good one.
Absolutely the greatest professor I've had. In one lecture we literally talked about Sigmund Freud and phalluses for an hour. It was hilarious. He provides notes with blanks you can fill-in which is super helpful. Multiple attempts on exams. You do have to participate in graduate students' psychology studies though. You need 5 hours worth of that.
This was by far the worst class I've had in my college career. Multiple assignments were graded improperly and exams were glitchy and terribly worded. Whenever the class would bring this to both his attention and his GA they were both extremely rude and condescending about it. I would never take any of his courses ever again. Avoid him.
such a sweetheart and an amazing professor honestly. gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit so take advantage of it.
Truelove is an excellent professor. I learned so much more from this class than I have from any other class. Truelove allows 2 attempts on each test, so if you miss a lot the first time, you have a second chance to get a good grade. He also lets you drop your lowest score on a test or paper. You will have to write two 8-10 page reaction papers.
Truelove is an excellent professor. I learned so much more from this class than I have from any other class. Truelove allows 2 attempts on each test, so if you miss a lot the first time, you have a second chance to get a good grade. He also lets you drop your lowest score on a test or paper.
I found this professor and the way he conducted his class to be very frustrating for me. He has 9 TAs and they are the ones who grade your papers and assignments. Just by that I lost respect for the professor. I do not pay thousands of dollars a semester to have peers grade my work. Will likely be dropping the course.
Ron is by far my favorite professor. He kept lectures fun and engaging. Because of him, I picked up a second major in psychology. He is hilarious and so approachable. He truly cares for his students. Even though it is a large lecture, you still feel like you receive personal attention by the way he speaks to his class. Hands down, 10/10 prof.
Ron was the best prof. Ive ever had. He likes to be called by his first name. There are 2 papers youll have to write but he outlines exactly what he wants. I got As on both. A test every few weeks but you get to retake it once or twice sometimes. If you fail this class, its because you didnt try at all.
Ron is such a great guy and he is very knowledgeable. He made sitting through class much more enjoyable by telling funny stories and sharing personal experience. The downfall of having him as a professor is that you have to teach everything to yourself since he often gets off track. This course is pretty difficult and requires a lot of studying.
Truelove is hilarious his lectures are so fun, but it honestly more depends on what TA you get. There are 2 papers you have to write and they are generally easy depends on how hard your TA grades. The tests are difficult and you really must study even though he gives you two tries.
The nicest guy! Really values his relationship with his students. Awesome energy and super refreshing!
Professor Truelove is one of the best professors I've ever had! His lectures are very interesting and he makes you really love the topic of Psychology. His own personal experiences are enough to make you like the guy. He shares some epic stories throughout class occasionally, which are always interesting to hear. Everyone should take his class!
Prof Truelove is super nice and genuinely cares about his students. He realizes that COVID-19 has made things more difficult than usual, and he made changes in order to help his students get through it. He's hilarious and his lectures are so easy to pay attention to! This was one of the only classes I looked forward to!
This class was completely taught by my SI. Truelove may as well have been an ebook of the textbook - he is a super sweet guy and very clearly cares about his students, but you'll get more information and help if you completely skip class and just attend SI sessions and read the textbook yourself. I stopped attending halfway through the semester.
I will admit, I stopped going to class and only watched the lectures/read the book about halfway through the semester, but that was my own choice. I liked how the tests were set up (study guides over notes, notes are given OVER the lectures) and the opportunities to drop the worst paper/test grade. HOWEVER you really need to not procrastinate.
Super caring guy and wants the best for his students. In saying that, he will still make you work very hard to get good grades. Psych 100 marks came primarily from tests and research essays, both which were challenging. If you are truly interested in psychology, this is a great professor to have!
He's a Nice Guy, Definitely talks a lot but his lectures always pertain to the course material and are very interesting. Most grades came from Exams and Papers. Textbook and lecture information will show up on exams. He has a lot of TA's though, so you rarely interact with him. SI sessions arent required but are helpful.
He was fairly easy but dont waste your money on the textbook
Ron is by far the best professor I have ever had. Im sad to see him leave after this semester, but he really cars about his students. He is so genuine and sweet, and his class is fairly easy as long as you put in the effort.
I had Ron for his final semester at BSU. I love this guy. Despite dealing with the ramifications of his four past strokes and other medical issues, his lectures were engaging and insanely informative. When I disagreed with how he presented a topic, he responded to my concerns immediately. Open book and note tests, easy A
Dr. Truelove is the most amazing Prof! He gives you an opportunity to take exams twice and improve your grade. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
He does not let u email him. U have to rely on ur TA to answer ur emails. Once we had a paper due & my TA was not answering me, even tho I needed my topic approved to write my paper. I emailed him & told him what was going on and he did not care at all or answer my ?s I asked. All he did was tell me not to email him again. I dropped the class.
