easy, tests are confusing

Usually nice, easy class, tests are easy too
RUMBLE IS THE MAN! okay class, he has a good sense of humor
Excellent, so what if he makes mistakes, he accepts suggestions, always happy.

Super nice guy, but cant teach for sh*t.
Good teacher, very nice. tests are hard though
Cool guy, draws good LOL hard tests - the time is usu not enough. Do homework and you'll get at least a B.
hard tests but does a decent job at explaining things but does mess up some.
Nice Guy, good sense of humor...but tests are extremely difficult even though you do problems...DO THEM MORE THAN ONCE at least. Good Luck!!!
I felt that he taught to the chalk board and went too fast. He asks if there are any questions but doesn't turn around to see if there are any hands in the air. Difficult tests!
Hated the class, but he was at least was a good professor.
Best math teacher i ever had, always explained things so i could understand, do the homework and the A is yours.
Rumble is pretty cool. Not a tremendously good prof but his tests are cake. go to office hours and he will let you know what you need for tests and what you need for him to pass you--great guy
This is an easy class. Do the homework to understand and take notes in class. Easy way to understand Algebra, even though he talks to the class as though we are in sixth grade.
Nice guy, very friendly and always is willing to go over things. Went a little slow for me personally.
i really liked his class.
Nice guy, talks to you like you are 5, which gets really annoying. He also draws really stupid pictures and trys to relate them to algebra. The guys just annoying. Half the time you know more than he does. Over all class is fairly easy and tests aren't bad.
Very unclear...does not explain the procedures...just jumps right into the example problems...gives you a review sheet with problems on it, but the problems on the sheet are not even close to the ones on the test...if you ask a question, he makes you look like a moron

very nice guy...sometimes isn't the clearist but has office hours to see him for questions
He talks to the chalkboard, confuses himself and the class, and he puts problems on his test that he may spend 5 minutes on in class....definitely not a very good educator. I am not sure how he kept the job for this amount of time.
He is very confusing he often gives the wrong answers and screws everyone up when he is teaching new material. Has no clue what is going on and is too worried about attendance. However he is helpful when he doesnt confuse himself and the class.
nice guy, tests are really hard, as long as you keep up with the work you will pass with no problem
He is a nice guy. Do all the home works would be helpful, but you also need to ask him what he will put on the tests orquizes, then you will be fine.
He is very proficient in mathematics, but prepares very little for lecture. This results in a poor presentation of the material (lots of mistakes), and often confusion amongst the students. Too much lecture time is spent reviewing homework of previous lessons, because students are not prepared for the (homework) material after each lecture.
The first day of class he tells us to throw out any formulas we may have learned in the past. He then claims we will not use ANY formulas. 10 seconds later he puts a formula on the board. Very confusing. Nice guy though
Eh, Umble is okay at best. He's a nice guy, but you definitely need to teach yourself everything. He likes to put you into groups and have you 'discuss' what we are learning (kinda weird and unhelpful). Try not to take him, but there could be worse.
Very nice guy, but he gives the hardest tests ever. He doesn't curve them even if the class average is an F. He would be a good professor if the extreme difficulty of the tests made the class impossible to pass!!
He's a nice guy, but he really can't teach. I've only had his class for 2 weeks, and I'm already lost. Look over the book and do the homework because his notes don't help at all.
he confuses himself at the board all the time, and takes up most of the class trying to figure out useless problems that just confuse him and US more.. i dont recommend him
-Can't answer homework problems -Can't even solve his own examples he prepared prior to lecture -Probably can't get above a c on his own tests -Frequently wastes class time trying to get through his own mistakes -Makes tests and quizes too long to complete -Uses different notation during quizes and tests, comared to lecture and homework ...
He is extremely willing to help you out! If you don't do your homework, ask him to extend it. If you miss a quiz or test, he'll let you make it up. He's almost too easy, if that's possible. If you don't get an A in this class, you just didn't try at all.
Dr. Umble is by far the nicest prof at MU. He gets a bad rap bc stud's are lazy and aren't willing to go to him for help. He is the most approachable prof who will go far and beyond to help you in any way he can. If you aren't willing to work, don't bother taking him. If you like a challenge and are willing to work hard & ask for help take Ron!
Great professor, great all around person. he loves his job and is always willing to help, even if you're not his advisee! his class can be tough, just do the work outside of class and you'll get along fine. Test are long, make sure you know all the material very well to get an A. Recommeded. Go to his office hours if u need help!!! A+++ 310,311
He is CRAZY! he just started teaching this class fall 2007. He does NOT know how to teach an easy subject. He expects the students to have prior knowledge. Math 100 should be a breeze but this class is not. He doesnt do ANYTHING for the class. Teaches off powerpoint, doesnt even know whats on the tests either. Avoid him!
Horrible! he never knows whats going on. He would hand out the solutions to homework but then find errors and re print and find more errors. They were never fully right. I would go to his office for help and he will tell me I should change my major. Never again
Dr. Umble is a great professor w/ a love for teaching. This course was his first time teaching, but in class we discussed what needed changed. The textbook was terrible. With a new textbook and a little more review at the beginning, this will be a decent course to take. He is aware of this, it will be changed.
dr umble is a unique guy. the world needs more teachers like him. he loves his job, and his interest in the subject comes through in his teaching. He challenges you with the material and expects you to do work. if you're not willing to work, then you won't get very far.if your not interested in learning this stuff, you really shouldn't be taking it
I hate math. I got a B+ but it took work. Pay attention, do lots of practice problems and you can do well too.
You won't understand what he is saying, he mumbles for the entire lecture each class and he messes up all the problems. i ended up getting a b+ in here but its only because i knew what i was doing beforehand don't expect him to help you if you don't know what you're doing
Just reads the book, I could do the same by myself
If you have a choice of professors, definitely avoid. He does not know what he is teaching half the time and makes many mistakes. He makes the work very confusing. The only positive is, there are very few mult. choice tests. He assigns bookwork but he doesn't check it. Online homework is around 15% of the grade and is easy to do.
Great guy, definitely has a passion for teaching. However, he is really confusing in class and goes off on tangents. One of the better profs to take who teach this course, but not the best.
Ron does not no how to teach, he is always confusing himself. he is no help in the class room at all, so if you want to learn u have to go to him during him hours or teach yourself, because he doesnt no how to answer questions during class, usually just ignores them. i would never take him again for a class because of how confusing he is.
very nice guy, he just does not no how to communicate with students. his tests are very very confusing and this class could be a lot easier then what he makes it
Material we learn is useless & dont need to know to go on to the next level. He goes over the hw from the day before for 45 min., then teaches for the last 30 min. He writes down everything he's doing & does alot of exs. but it's very confussing material to understand. Nice man. Tests are hard! Not required to do hw but def. should to help you!
He is a sweet old man, but don't let it fool you. His lectures are disorganized, he tells you everything that's already written out in his textbook, so you don't even have that to help if you don't understand his lectures. I want to teach geometry, but he's ruining my chances. Take Dr. Sell instead.
Very interesting voice/communication. To me, he made things very clear but it didn't seem to have the same effect on everyone. If you're taking College Algebra and you're a smart, well-educated person, then I'd highly suggest him.
Dr. Umble is a very nice man, however, he is not a great professor. There are often mistakes on tests and in class examples that lead to more confusion. I haven't missed a class and still struggle with the material. I suggest not taking him for this class unless you are very good at teaching yourself calculus.
If you like teaching yourself, then this is the class for you. This professor made so many errors that it was hard to understand the correct way to solve problems. If I had to do it all over again, I would definately take someone else.
This professor is a terrible excuse for someone who wants to teach people. The lecture is taught one way, different than the homework, and both of those are different from the tests. I had 4 tutors (one was him) in one semester. All of them looked at the online homework and told me they had no idea (One was a third year math major...)DONT TAKE THIS
Talks at you. You have no idea what the purpose is for certain calculations. Explains nothing. Very unclear but thinks he's a great teacher but he isn't. DONT TAKE HIM, esp with calc.
awesome teacher. very willing to help and really wants his students to understand. I wish he would have taught more classes!
If you understand the work skip the first half of class he goes over the homework! He drop lowest test score
I took this course during a Summer Session. The first 45 minutes he goes over homework problems from the book (which were optional). The online HW is what counts for the grade in the class. He crams 4 sections into the next 30 mins of class. Terrible at explaining. Uses the book examples and can't even copy problem correct. Lazy and can't explain.
A decent teacher, he spoke clearly to our class considering it's size. Online homework is more challenging than tests. He gave us a 17 percent curve on our one test. If your looking to get a good grade in a Math 100 class, take him.
Dr. Umble is terrible at explaining concepts. He goes over them far too quickly for anyone to grasp. He sends out grades on exams via email and M#. There were 8 students that received A averages out of 70 students. The class started with 100+ kids. Do not take this class with him unless you have no other option; you will end up teaching yourself.
I was completely lost after 2 weeks and ended up teaching myself for the whole semester just to pass this class with C+. His teaching was so disorganized and his notes didn't help me at all. Don't take his class unless you want to ruin your gpa!
Easy if you go to every class, do all of the assignments, and study. However, be prepared to have 2-3 online assignments due every tuesday and thursday. It's good because it helps, but it's a lot of time and a lot of busy work. Gives a prep guide for exams. The exams are multiple choice, so if you study and know your stuff you should do good.
Dr. Umble is a really nice person and is willing to help with homework problems. He assigns problems from the book and then says that they are similar to the quiz and exam questions. They aren't. The questions are harder so the exams and quizzes are harder than the homework problems.
A lot of people complain about him but I didn't think he was too bad at all. Maybe it's because I've taken a lot of algebra classes and am good at it, but I thought he was a fine teacher and I understood everything. Just show up, listen in class, and do the online homework and you'll be fine. Go see him during office hours if you need help.
Dr. Umble is a great guy. He's always available to help and he's very patient when you don't get something. He's incredibly nice. His class is pretty tough though. Be prepared to really study for the final (but calc is tough enough already). Overall, he's a pretty great professor. I'd take him again.
The man does not know how to work technology. Constantly makes the same mistakes and has no idea what he did. Often can't remember how to do simple math, like basic adding and subtracting. Likes to assign multiple assignments in a night. Teaches right until the end, so good luck if you have to be somewhere right afterward. Extremely condescending.
Rumble is a great teacher. Just sit there and take notes, do the online homework and you should be fine. It's very different from algebra, but the content of the class actually relates to real life which I like. If this course counts for credit towards your major, take it.
Gives easy notes and posts study guides on D2L, expect homework, don't need the textbook, you'll receive the most effective help if you go to office hours.
I took this as a summer class and I thought he was a really good professor. He is a very kind man and he genuinely cares about his students. If he thought someone was confused, he always made sure to ask them if they needed help. There was a lot of homework, but it helps you to better understand the material.
He doesn't go over anything in class/homework remotely close to anything you'll see on his quizzes, he uses an overhead projector to write down the notes you should take (this makes it impossible to take notes when he scrolls down way too quickly or continues working while you take notes), makes many mistakes, relies heavily on calc 1 experience.
Honestly one of my favorite professors in the math department. He is very passionate about what he teaches. If you ever need help, he is willing to sit down with you. Gives a lot of homework but helps to prepare for tests. Lets you take a retest and averages your grades unless first test was better. Sometimes forgetful but an amazing prof overall!
Math 100 is single-handedly the stupidest, least logical class I've ever taken. The class itself is full of confusing concepts that have no actual real world application. Get ready to learn how to count in Ancient Chinese! But Dr. Umble is pretty chill. Cool guy. Curves very generously.
You'd think a 100 level math course would be easy; this class was NOT. Umble gives out confusing lecture outlines with confusing examples, then DOESN'T USE THEM ON THE TEST! I'm not a big fan of math, but after Umble's class, I downright HATE the subject. Take this course elsewhere if you can!
Dr. Umble is a really nice professor but he really challenges you with his math tests. Luckily he curves the test grades (Test #1: +17, Test #2: +3, Test: #3 +19, this was for my class but the curve always varies) and he is always willing to help when needed. Even though attendance is not mandatory, make sure you attend class as much as possible.
it was very hard to follow his lectures because he doesnt plan them ahead of time. he does a lot of talking to himself and a lot of mistakes as he goes. he would be halfway through a proof and say where was i going with this again? i always went to office hours so he tried to help me out but he was always on the phone. always offers a make up test.
I hated math in high school but Dr. Umble made math much more bearable. He teaches in a way that made me learn and even added a historical element to the class with counting in ancient languages. He gives you a key to count so these are easy questions to answer. Generous grader and curves always. Hate math, not a problem.
online homework could be tough, but I took this class in high school so at least i had a background. Test scores are important they're 80% of your grade so study hard for them. maybe not always the best at explaining things but Umble will always do his best to help you out with what you don't understand
Dr. Umble is a nice guy and really cares about getting you through this class. He curves two of his tests significantly. I believe he curved our first test +20 points and the third test +23 points. There's a lot of online homework, about 35 of them, but they aren't that difficult. If you need a math course, you should take this one.
Dr. Umble is difficult at times but he is very passionate about his classes. He is always willing to help when you need it. You do get lots of homework this it is hard and some of the stuff is not always in the notes. The tests are HARD. If you do not need to take this class I personally would not put yourself through it.
He's really nice. Although he messes up basic math sometimes, he really tries his best to help the students in his class. Overall, he's a great professor and his course is manageable.
Rumble is the worst professor Ive ever had at Millersville. His tests are made up of problems that are intended to trick you. He claims to offer help outside of class but if you visit his office hours he just sits there and eats his lunch while you struggle with the problems. The online homework is full of errors and doesnt match with the exams.
Dr. Umble is a super nice guy who is passionate about math. However he makes things kind of unclear in lectures. There's on average 3-4 homeworks each week that range in questions. Tests are nothing like the study guide. He curves all of the exams so that helps.
Even though attendance wasn't recorded missing a class meant missing a lot of material so I would advise not skipping. His class was mainly about the tests but he would give review exams and was always available to answer questions.
Dr. Umble is a good and chill professor, but I would not recommend taking this class. It is difficult and confusing and none of the material can be used any real world situations. Be prepared to learn how to count and do math in ancient Chinese and Egyptian.
The lectures were very easy to follow along but with any math class, the homework gets hard and the tests even harder.
This class is very fast pace and the review sessions for the exams are held in the middle of the day when most people have class. With that, most students are left to teach themselves the material or go to a math tutor for additional help. The homework assignments are all online and you have to teach yourself the material for that too.
Umble cares, but sometimes he doesn't teach what he's trying to teach well. It is often times hard to try to understand how he's teaching, but if you go to his office hours or email him he is more than happy to help. He's a good guy who means well.
Dr. Umble is a decent man. He wants to see all his students succeed. This class can be challenging if you do not pay attention during lectures, complete the homework or study in advance. He does curve your grades, provides recitation a few days prior to an exam and gives out study guides. If you take advantage of all of these tools you will pass.
Dr. Umble is the goat. All of the homework was online which was nice because I could work on my own terms and skip ahead which helped during finals szn. Hes also really good at lecturing and is funny sometimes. He welcomes questions and there are no wrong answers, just learning opportunities. Literally the Bob Ross of math teaching.
Dr. Umble really made math accessible to someone who struggles with it. He seems to genuinely care about his students and wants everyone to succeed. I'm glad I took him for my first college math course.
Often his lectures would have some simple mistakes that students would correct. The HW assigned was helpful for the quizzes and tests. He is kind toward all of his students and will work with you during his office hours. He grades fairly leniently. If you know how to do the problems and make simple mistakes he will not take off too many points.
He really is a nice guy and has his student's sucess in his best interest. Now, you are gonna have to work for it thought. I was worried about this class because I am not good at math, but if you prepare for the tests, do the homework and go to class, you should at least pass the class. The tests make up 60% of your grade and the final is 25%.
Dr. Umble is very caring and dedicated to his students. Unfortunately, the content is so incredibly complicated for no reason whatsoever. Example: we had to learn Chinese, how to count on an abacus, how to code... Worst math class ever. Do yourself a favor and take calc instead. It'll be easier. ALSO, plan on printing out 200+ pages of notes.
Ron Umble is one of the most caring professors out there, and one that helps you think outside the box. And whoo doggie, for advanced mathematics youre going to need both of those. Excellent examples, inestimable patience, and no-nonsense.
