He was a little disorganized and unclear about assignments and tests. He has been the most open professor I have ever had, he will really work with you to improve your grade. If you have a question about a test he is very open to what you have to say. In terms of grading, he is the fairest I've had.

I'd recommend this class. Not a lot work, a couple of papers, midterm, and final. Mr. Wilson is very helpful with your grade. He'll review your papers before you submit them and give advice. If you study the notes that he gives, the tests aren't bad at all. Subject matter is very useful for life.

Nicest professor I've ever had! Wants his students to do well and will work with you! Easy grader. As long as you do the work and study a little for the test you'll do fine. He basically told us everything that was on the first test. He's a little disorganized but he's such a sweet man. RECCOMEND

I took a Sociology class last year, and Wilson just seems to be dumb on the subject. Giving vague definitions for simple words like "norms" and "culture shock" while never ceasing to waste 10 minutes on a tangent about how short a 50 minute class seems or his involvement in the Vietnam War. Though he's quite kind and makes sure the class is easier than sleeping, he's an assured waste of learning for a semester.

I disagree with the 3rd post. Prof. Wilson is one of the best profs. I have ever had. Although he may not always be clear, he is very willing to help his students and is very fair in grading. He talks about the Vietnam war alot to relate class concepts to his life experiences, also is knowledgable on sociology. His classes are not a waste of time!

I ALSO disagree with that post, the only reason he would appear not knowledgable is because he is a little disorganized.. but if you have a decent level of intelligence he is not that hard to follow. He is also helpful outside of class, grades easily, and always loves student opinions. I would gladly take him again. RECOMMEND

I liked Professor Wilson. He's a nice professor & the class really isn't that hard, but you do have to study for the tests. 1 paper, ours was on the Shawshank redemption and was a creative paper. Not bad at all. Go to class, it usually doesn't last longer than 40 minutes. Some readings, but if you don't understand it, just come to the next class.

This class was so frustrating. He literally lectured about attendance every single class, to the people who were there. Also he likes to emphasize class discussion in a class of 180. He just drones on and doesn't answer questions himself, he just fields them back to the class. I would not recommend this professor.

He'll tell you every class that the only way to pass is to have a sociological social psychology mindset, and that there needs to be class discussion, but he never calls on people, and when he does he doesn't say if their "analysis" is right. His exams cover material we've never talked about, and all the questions have an "all of the above" choice.

This class is boring and Wilson does go off on tangents, butttttt if you read the assigned readings it's an easy A or B.

HATE him. worst professor I had last semester. I read all the readings, which you have an article to read for every single class, and did well on all his quizzes he gives EVERY friday and still got a C. His midterm and final are on nothing you will every get info on. I went to his office hours and he was sassy. DO NOT TAKE

Not really my type of teacher...found him to be incredibly boring, his test questions to be vague, and all around unhelpful. Spent many hours studying for his tests and weekly quizzes to only barely survive...definitely not a good teacher in my opinion

I have no idea what the other comments are talking about but Professor Wilson is an amazing professor. He is very understanding and wants his students to do well. He was very clear and straight forward. On exams it was all notes. The 11 quizzes are on reading and the lowest grade is dropped.Go to class be attentive and you will do just fine.

He is a nice old man. will do fine if you go to class and read the not long chapters for class. For his two tests, the midterm and final study by looking over the notes and you will do fine. Any one will do fine in this class if they put in any effort

Easy A, but the professor is completely vague and incompetent. He's nice, but I could teach his class better than him. If I had his powerpoints, I'd never have to come to class. The readings are short, but all I had to do was read the italicized summaries before the articles and I still aced the quizzes.

Professor Wilson was one of the worst teachers I've had, not only in college, but in high school as well. His lectures were a complete bore and the readings weren't the most in depth either. His tests would always have an "a and b" option or "all of the above" so when in doubt, just circle that one and you're probably right. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Its not a bad class to take. The lectures and readings are interesting but its hard to get an A. He has weekly quizzes but he gives all the answers in his lectures. Tests you do have study a lot for.

The quizzes are easy, but the midterm dropped my grade from an A+ to a C+ so watch out. No amount of studying will help you pass. Good luck.

Overall, not a hard class. Weekly quizzes were very easy and based mostly on the readings. If you read the short articles assigned it's a pretty easy grade. His midterm and final are not easy. All multiple choice, but you never really know what he wants. Bad professor, easy class.

I had him as a freshman, am now almost a senior, and he is STILL the WORST professor I have ever had at JMU. It wasn't because I got a bad grade-I ended up with a B in the class. It wasn't because I hated the topic- I am now a sociology minor. It was because he is a horrible, unclear, professor that doesn't teach anything. Take someone else.
