Hard tests
No Comments
Great guy, but expects a lot from his students.
Hell of a good guy...give him a chance.
great guy! hard tests, but scales, very good teacher, well prepared for classes
Didn't know what the questions were asking half the time... but still did ok
Oddly enough, difficult, but really Kewl
Have to be quick to catch his jokes, tough class but you learn lots
Ron teaches extremely well, however pushes you on tests. Very knowledgeable
Learned a lot. Fair guy. VERY intelligent. He is a good teacher--patient, helpful.
If he could do more out of the text book, and help you more individually, that would be great.
hard exams..but he gets you to think...awesome guy
A wonderful teacher. Does not hold your hand, but guides you better than you could ever wish for. Truly an intelligent and unique individual.
awesome teacher, you like him even if you don't like the course material
Really nice guy, tests material a little suprising, some questions not fully covered in class, and they were very hard. He is a very intelligent individual though.
i like him as a teacher, you get to know the stuff cause hemakes you learn it, quite teh character, i would go in his classes again forsure. some test questions are out to get you though.
Text book really is optional. Save your money. Practise practise practise the examples from class.Test questions are the same format..... long and complicated.
Not as hard as 301! Tests are still HARD, that's just Ron's style. He wants you to learn as much as possible. He seems to know everything, it's impressive! Very unique and brilliant person. And the Swan sweater really grew on me, not many could make it work, but he does somehow! Ron's a great guy!
Always helpful!
Ron is great, he loves to get out of class early, so don't expect to stay for a full 3 hours class. He marks on a curve, so as long as you do average, you'll be fine. His tests are tough, but he only tests what he covers in class, no surprises.
AWESOME! Always looked fwd to going to class..lots of fun, laughs and jokes. Learned a lot but Ron always seems to make it fun. One thing to keep in mind Ron always throws in a twist question in exams to test your abilities BUT its usually not TOO bad. Even though this class is late(7) its a lot of fun...and you get out early.
Very nice teacher, clear and helpful, I like his class!
The only thing i hated about this class was the horrible text. honestly, first text in 4 years i have never used. This guy is too smart to have chosen this text- the dept must be forcing it. Further, Ron needs more exercises available, perhaps on his website- hint. An asset to the UCFV faculty-and my favourite sense of humor all time
He is not the most clear prof, but once you can get a handle on his teaching style he is really good! He really knows what he is talking about!
He is an incredibly smart man, BUT most USELESS at teaching Bus100. He made that class the HUGEST waste of my time...babbled on about examples, never tested on much of what he talked about. HORRIBLE! dont get him if you actually want to learn from your proff.
Did not learn much. made the class very boring. half the people were falling asleep.. do not recommend him.
Great instructor. Goes over theory then has the class work on examples. A few assignments and quizzes, but lets you have a crib sheet for all exams and quizzes. Highly recommended!
Ron is a great instructor and is very willing to help students. The information was difficult to understand. His teaching style is ok but don't blink in the class or with your notes or you are done! Doesn't use a text and doesn't give you much for pracitce and he doesn't make exams that relate to what you learn. Ok instructor but avoid if you can.
Doesn't use textbook at all. Don't waiste your money. Exams are tough, the average is usually 50%. Very difficult to get help from him before or after class. Do not take a class with him. You won't learn much and most of the stuff he teaches you you'll forget. Tip: For the midterm don't bother studying for the simulation question, you won't get it.
His exams are hard and he makes the question really hard to understand. His class was a waste of time and money. Avoid taking his classes if possible.
Ron is by far the smartest prof I've ever had. Has lots of experience and knows his stuff. Ron challenges his students but is always willing to help. Also has a great sense of humour. Highly recommend this prof.
This is a prof who will actually teach you something. If you pay attention and try to learn, you will do just fine on the exams (he scales the marks, and so long as you try will not fail you). Has a good sense of humour and seeks to actually challenge his students to improve their skills. No questions are impossible, but they separate the As &Cs
I took Ron's operations class at SFU some ten years ago. I still remember his student-centred approach and his wonderful dry sense of humour. He is an example of how university professors should approach their teaching.
Will not help, he gives you time to "figure it out on your own", if you dont understand you basically sit for 15 mins staring at the wall until he explains it.
never uses textbook, throughout the year fairly easy does alot of examples but final exam is impossible, i studied so hard i was gettin a B going into the final and the class average on the final was 35%. he admits it was tough test yet doesnt do anything about it!!
Worst prof I have ever had! Final exam was brutal and unfair. He would does not use the book, and his class is unclear
Ron is a great prof and will challenge you to think outside the box! Really enjoyed this class!
Assigned a text book but it was only for "reference". Since the text covered excel formulas and how to use a financial calculator it was pretty useless. Final exam was rough, nowhere else in the whole course did we have general memorization questions with no actual math.
Class seemed to have a concept that would help you. But he teaches at 500,000,000 MPH. Thus, you being able to understand ANYTHING in the class depends on how well you remember what he taught during the class, and applying this knowledge to the assignments. Goodluck.
Very tough class, if you miss a day you will be lost. Ron is a great prof and knows what he's talking about, but he lets you sit and stew over the examples for a long time before going over them. Exams are very difficult, but you can bring a cheat sheet to them (even the final). And don't buy the textbook, he doesn't use it.
Very difficult prof, for 2.5 hours of lecture you will maybe get 3 pages of notes. For each type of question you get around 2 examples. If you are intuitive with math, you might manage him, but if you're like me and want lots of practice questions to work with, DON'T take him! He will forever be remembered as my least favorite prof
No textbook, pay attention or miss out. Teaching method is 100% showing examples of problems and their solutions, trying to help you understand the logic so you can formulate a solution to other problems. I found it inefficient and ineffective. Marks on curve, 90% is from midterm and final, so you really don't know how you're doing until it's done.
Good prof, knows what he's talking about. Easy to follow for the most part. Don't miss a class, you'll be screwed. Doesn't use text book. Gives LOADS of time for you to work on the questions - wish he would have explained them instead of waiting for us to figure them out. EASY EASY midterm, DEADLY final.
Very good prof - extremely knowledgeable and passes on his knowledge well. No textbook - do NOT miss class. Lectures are example-based, with a focus on understanding the logic instead of just learning the process for a specific question type. He will find a way to challenge even the best math students, but what you learn is fully worth any pain.
The course material was rather tough, but I enjoyed Ron. He's a funny guy who is very logical. If you ask for help he is incredibly helpful. He's a relaxed guy. Like I said, the course can be tough, but work hard in class, pay attention to examples, and ask for help when you need it and you will succeed.
Ron is a great Prof. Finance is a tough class and Ron expects a lot from his students so if you don't show up to class and don't work hard it is very likely you will fail. Almost everyone fails his final but he marks on a curve so everyone's grades will be reasonable. If you want to learn take Ron's classes. If your lazy avoid Ron.
Ron a nice guy but in reality a very lazy prof. He goes through questions in class way too fast so no one even knows what to ask. Most of the solutions he post online have no questions attached to them which makes things difficult. He could do a way better job teaching this class. Brutal prof. He tends to complicate the material more then it is.
I didn't think Ron was so bad for this class. It is a difficult class and he does go through things pretty quickly. You have to pay attention. I didn't study for the tests really, I just spent all my time making a perfect cheat sheet and did good.
Ron is a very interesting teacher. He's able to keep your attention in the class the majority of the time. His way of teaching is all example based though, so if you miss a class you miss a lot. Midterm is really easy but you'll most certainly fail the final. Its 60% theoretical questions so pay attention during the one class he goes over that :|
Ron is very nice. Do not buy the recommended textbook, you will not use it. He basically just goes through examples the whole class. You work through it with the person at your table and then he puts the answers up. I didnt understand what to do until he put the answer up. Then practice those questions over and over and you will do good.
Ron's class was one of the best I've taken at UFV. It's usually a short lecture followed by a series of in-class exercises where he goes around and helps everyone through them - a great way to learn. Do not buy the textbook, it will never be used.
I don't understand why some people hates him. I personally love his class. He spends approx 2 hours letting you do the exercise. To ace in this class, you really have to "understand" the solution, instead of just knowing which formulas to use. Quizzes are like one of the questions discussed in class. Final is fair. Overall a good teacher.
Ron is actually a great prof. He goes through things a little quick in class but he is always willing to help if you need it. Also, going through the examples from class and on his website are the key to doing well on his exams. He knows they're tough, and marks on a curve accordingly.
Ron went through the material way too quickly and I was lost after the first day. When asking for help he often replied with "Think about it" and then would walk away. Once I began failing, he realized I didn't have a clue and then was eager to help. I wish this happened immediately. Seriously, the best of luck.
Take finance with Ron.He grades on a curve which other teachers do not. And you don't need to buy a textbook. The material he teaches you is very useful for life. He is very smart and very willing to help, put the time in and you will get a good mark, easy.
Great teacher, makes the material easy when it is regularly quite difficult and he grades on a curve. Take finance with Ron.
The class itself can be challenging, it is not necessarily Ron that is the problem. If you show up to class everyday and actually put in the effort your grades will follow. I am a B student at best and I managed to get an A. It's not impossible, just show him that you have interest in the class and participate
The content covered in this course is challenging but there is an SLG to attend, if you so choose. Ron covers the material fairly quickly in class during the lecture but does give you time to do practice examples & you can ask for help at that point. He does allow "cheat sheets" for all of the quizzes, midterm, & final. He also grades on a curve.
I love Ron's teaching style as he makes students think outside the box and every question in class and on tests requires strong analysis and critical thinking. To do well on Ron's test you need a complete understanding of the material and an ability come up with new techniques to solve a question. This class is hard but I highly recommend Ron.
Everyone warned me to take a course with Ron. But had I not taken this course with him, I would have missed an important part of my learning. The topic he covers and the way he teaches is simply amazing.
Ron was an amazing teacher. For the teaching style I learn best with his was a perfect match. His "lectures" last the whole class, but he mainly talks for about 10-15 min and then gives you a question to work on, while you are working on the question he circulates and makes sure you are doing it right. there are never any surprises on exams/quizzes
Ron is a wonderful professor. Very helpful and clear when he teaches.
Ron, A kick ass teacher. Chocolate chip muffins...
Ron is a great prof who teaches in a traditional way. Meaning come to class and take the best and most detailed notes possible and you'll do fine in his class.
Ron is a great professor! DO expect to take notes, listen to his lectures (only 10-15 mins of class time) and be prepared to work during class. He spends most of his lecture time having his students work out finance problems. He has 3 assignments during the semester which are only for participation marks but definitely worth doing for the exam!
very hard and complicated exams. no textbook, no power point slide, no office hours!!!!
no text book, no office hours, no powerpoint slides no review questions, nothing!! hardest exams ever!!!
Really good professor. Ron really makes you work for your grade however, and there's not textbook either so taking notes in class is critical. Try not to miss a class because the material will get confusing and pile up really fast. Quizzes can be tricky and make sure you know your stuff when exam days come; they can be difficult.
Ron's awesome. Finance is a really tough class, and you'll get your ass kicked in the first few weeks. Luckily it all starts coming together. Ron's exams are HARD, really hard. Study or you're doomed. You'll get out what you put in. He wants you to succeed, but he's not going to make it easy.
Exams are very difficult. Hard to understand without using the textbook.
Ron is a very effective instructor. He expects his students to be prepared and willing to learn so if you are looking for an easy class, keep looking. If you want to learn the fundamentals of finance, he is great.
No textbook so you have to go to class. He will spend time explaining concepts to you when you are stuck, he is very knowledgable so ask questions! Very logical and has more simple formula than is found in textbooks. Make sure you can do the assignments and get the answers on your own, tests are similar.
The entire 3 hour class is spent on a few questions. No notes, no explanations, u just get a formula then he writes a question and walks around, wont tell you how to do it. Tests are super hard. Not what i expected of finance its just interest and mortgage rates and no learning about money in businesses. Take this if u want to be a td bank teller
Easy going guy and very helpful. He teaching style is very helpful for those who like hands-on work. Finance is tough but he does his best to help is students out. Very approachable and offers office hours
Worst course Ive attended at UFV giving zero concept clarity. It becomes gloomy without books and visual aid. Tough exams and unrelated to class material . Ron needs to learn the course description of BUS 249 and teach thereafter. Dirtiest professor ever please dont take him up. you'll regret! really bad professor!
Ron is not for the typical student who just wants a good mark and nothing else. Personally, I'm really interested in finance and this course made me more interested, but at the same time, it kicked my ass. Quizzes and exams involve you using concepts and figuring out how to get around the curveballs. I liked him, but I understand why people don't.
I only took him for one course, which was a summer semester (accelerated). The course itself was not overly difficult for anyone mildly proficient in excel, and the material you learn is really cool - the simulations especially are real-word applicable and very cool. He has more patience than anyone I've ever seen. Good prof.
This was my second course with Ron, and I wish there were others he taught! He is not about teaching to memorize facts or steps, but about critical thinking. He does not use a textbook (saves you money!). You must attend class to write your own notes and be able to ask questions. Ron's tests are hard as he wants you to be able to think critically.
Excellent prof, funny, and professional. Learned more from him than any other prof I can think of. Attendance is not mandatory, but don't skip his class. No one will be able to explain the material better than he can.
Taking this class with Ron was a huge mistake. He's a really nice guy and all, but his teaching style is horrid! No reference other than verbal lecture itself. No lecture notes, textbook, or syllabus! Basically just gives you formulas and expects you to figure out the rest. Really hard exams. I make my course schedule around avoiding his classes..
His final was 100% impossible to do without it being an open laptop exam. They were conundrums never mentioned in any of his useless lectures. Therefore, your only hope of passing depends on how well/bad the rest of the class performed in the monstrous final.
Very helpful if you go to his office hours, no textbook required, grades on a scale so if you do well on the in class quizzes and such youll do fine, not a lot of homework required which was nice
The professor's teaching style is extremely unclear. No books are used for reference to students before they are ready for questions thrown at them. He expects you to know how to solve it before helping you practice them! Spends a lot of time letting students figure things out themselves which wastes class time and efforts! Poor lecturer!
Ron is very nice and funny, but if you're looking for an easy A he is not the way to go. He's good at explaining things, but then the questions he gives are very different and more difficult than what he taught. You need to attend his lectures because he doesn't provide online notes or anything like that. He's very generous with half marks on tests
Lectures are terrible, and awful at explaining the content he provides. You must go to the class to get the material since no notes or explanations are posted online. Also, no grades are posted online so going into the final you have no clue as to where you are at. No graded assignments to gauge your knowledge.
For Rons BUS249 class i have a good understanding of most of the material that was covered in class however, I am not sure I will pass this course due to his monstrous final. It was full of questions & information that was not ONCE covered in class. His previous class average for the final was 49% I'd avoid him if you want to pass & get the credits
Ron is a nice person, but as a prof, I wouldn't recommend anyone to take him. He asks you to solve the questions in class before he even explains the content fully, which would make anyone clueless. He makes the content difficult to understand. His midterms are crazy, and his final was a NIGHTMARE. Overall, avoid him.
This is a hard class and you don't know what to expect on the midterm or final in Ron's class. Ron curves the marks so it's not hard to get a decent grade. Just make sure to finish hw assignments for easy marks and go to class to understand the material.
Attend every lecture. Ron does not give any resources besides what he writes on the board. He is available outside of class, but his lack of alternative resources really limit your comprehension of the material. Because of this he grades on a curve. The material requires sufficient practice if you want an A.
He is nice person, and he helps students to understand. However, His midterm and final exam was hard and heavy.
I am doing BUS 349 and miss him so much. He taught what was useful in real life and not the theory things that other profs do. I know that he does not provide additional resources but also loved how his class notes were to the point and suffice for A+. In short, show up for class, stay awake, make notes, revise, score A+!! Easy and straightforward.
Horrible prof! Exams are waaaay to hard. Avoid him at all costs.
I would not recommend to take this course with this instructor. I am having a lot of troubles trying to comprehend the material so I have youtubed finance videos, googled other explanations and formulas to try to study and nothing I find on the internet coincides with his in class teaching. Does not explain the concepts very well to begin with.
Nice guy. Really enjoyed him as a teacher on the first day. Then it all went downhill fast. He moves WAAAY too quickly through material in class and provides no notes, no PowerPoints, not even a real syllabus. Youre left struggling to keep up. Good luck to anyone who has to endure it.
worst prof ever. our midterm average was 52% and quizzes average was 1.5/10 . there's only like 2-4 questions for each chapter. doesn't post notes so you need to go to class. highly recommend avoiding him.
Ron is a very nice guy, but his quizzes and exams are brutal, its like imagine you went to Business school , but then tested on medical stuff, thats how his exams feel. Avoid him if you can, but if you have no choice but to take him, then may the force be with you
Ron deserves such a higher rating than this! He's one of the best profs I've had at UFV. He's funny, understanding, and really is there for you when you don't understand. It's difficult without slides or notes, and EVERYTHING you write down is important. NO TEXTBOOK REQUIRED. You have to work hard, but Ron is great. I would recommend this prof!
Ron is a very fun teacher and is understanding if you miss a class. test questions are hard it is better to understand the math then try to memorize (you will not pass) otherwise Ron is a fair marker and willing to help you if he sees that you want a good grade.
One of the best professors at the UFV. No book and no homework except 3 to 4 assignments. Attending class must bcz no notes posted. Clears doubt and explain concepts as per ur level of understanding. Ask as many questions as many times, and he will explain it better every single time. Tough exams though. Atnd class, ask ques, practice den u r good
His tests are way more harder than what is done in class and you have no where to study from if you miss a class. I would say don't take this prof if you will be missing classes.
Rons style of lecturing is effective at keeping you engaged and encouraging critical thinking. Going to his office hours is super helpful in ensuring you do well; do not pass that opportunity up. His class seems very tough at first but everything starts to connect later. Hes great but my only wish is that he posted notes online for clarification.
I really liked Rons teaching style. He would ask 3-4 questions in class and then you would spend the class answering them. The practice really helped when it came to the tests. You have to understand the concepts behind the problems, not just memorize them to be able to do well on the tests. He also curved the midterm and final.
Ron is amazing. He explains the concept very well and then asks students to find the answers. He roams around in the class when the students are solving the questions and is ready to answer each and every doubt you have. The questions are challenging but they are fun to solve. Overall, nice prof.
One the worst professor to take the course from even if youre a B+ student. Student who are in deans list constantly should only take his course. Otherwise leave him as soon as possible. You could also take Don Dixon or maybe Raymond but dont take this mf.
He is a nice enough guy and knows what he's talking about but his teaching method is very odd. No textbook, I don't even know if we covered the required curriculum. I don't feel like I have a better understanding of finance after taking his class. Just how to plug in formulas. Very dry, and a hard marker. You must put in a lot of studying effort.
ron uses a confusing website, instead of blackboard, where the material isnt helpful. he is a tough grader who gives no part marks. midterm + quizzes were very hard and the material isnt related to what is taught in lectures. he uses easy numbers for the examples but then the tests are much harder. dont take his class if you want to save your gpa.
Ron is extremely nice and patient, and good at explaining concepts. He never responds to emails and his tests are crazy hard. Test questions are stretched way beyond his lessons and he doesn't give you enough practice. Even if you study a lot, you might not succeed. MT AVG was 48%. He indicated his test average is usually 42% - 44%.
I dropped this course last semester because it was like learning the alphabet in class and then on the midterms, he would ask us how black holes are formed.4 out of 5 questions on the midterms was stuff he never taught. quizzes and assignments are pretty easy but the midterm made me wanna kill myself(this was taking it the second time).
I thought Ron was a very personable guy, and presented most of the course clearly through his lectures, although portions were skimmed over, and then tested quite extensively. I taught myself for the most part, and if you are willing to work like an animal you'll be fine. Its a difficult course to begin with, but he does curve the grades.
Ron is a nice enough guy, explains things nicely and in simple terms so it is easy to grasp the concepts (or so you think) absolutely no txtbook & he uses some weird website. First quiz we had the average grade was 3/10 and the quiz questions were nothing like what we had practiced in the assignment/ in class. I'm struggling HARD, do not recommend
