Intermediate Macro. He was a good professor that always made himself available. The coursework could have been made much harder than it was because of the way he taught it. Says "cash money" alot.
Had him for game theory econ. BORING lectures! His voice was so soft and monotone that it put me to sleep no matter how hard I tried to stay awake. Didn't learn much from his class, but as long as you study the hw you'll pass. Very easy grader.

He really means well, but his lectures are extremely boring. I felt bad for him throughout the semester b/c half the class would either leave early or just not show up. He's a really easy grader, and as long as you have his old exams to study from, you'll do great!
He really knows his stuff. Yes he can be very boring, but when he isn't going off onto random things he is really interesting. Study and understand the problem sets and you will do well.

You don't even need to buy the textbooks. Just go to class and take good notes. Few homeworks he gives out is all from the lecture. You will only have midterm and final; and all materials on exams are from the lectures also. EASY class~~ *He just doesn't look at you when he lectures.
I'm here to the restate what everyone else had said. You must take down everything he says, I suggest a tape recorder if you want to be lazy. It's the only way to ace the class. Very interesting if you can stay awake. Makes difficult material very easy.
I liked Heiner. He gave us take home exams, doesn't take attendance and doesn't require you to bring the textbooks to class. I didn't buy any books! He is a bit boring but if you want an easy A, take him, it's worth it!
This is the best teacher I have had in Mason so far. He is very helpful. He knows what he is talking about. He can be boring but if you pay attention, the material can be very interesting. Stay awake in class, attend all classes, and its an easy A. His homework and exams are from his lectures. So if you took notes, you will be just fine.
It seems this guy burnt himself out in college, he's a little out there, but he is really nice. I didn't particularly care for the class, but his tests were exactly from the notes, and he let us use our notes one time. Easy class if you just want an A, but not a good one if you genuinely want to learn about ECON.
The material in the class is easy, and he explains it very thoroughly, but be careful on the exams. Our midterm was open book, and the final was a take home,so he was very picky about how in depth concepts were explained. Take very good notes, write down everything you can on the exams, and you should be okay. I got an A- without reading the books.
Very thorough, though a little boring. He doesn't always teach from the book, so attend class! Exams are tricky, but open note/open book, so no worries.
Ron Heiner aka Lord Cargo. A little boring but interesting to talk to after class. He is a math wizard and he loves to rock the cargos. 412 midterm and final were take home.
intelligent, explains points clearly. DONT buy book, he tests just out of lecture. in-class midterm was difficult, but final was take home. go to class, take notes on EVERYthing (especially applications) and you'll be fine
What can I say easy class. He keeps at a pace the whole class can keep up with. He answers all questions asked. Great Professor.
Great teacher! Haha, loved his cargo pants which he kept his markers in! Very helpful. Just do all the problem sets (which he checks just for completion) and take great notes!
king of cargo, dont need book, take notes and do the homework - easy class
I really didn't feel like I learned anything in his class. He tried to teach, but things didn't come out very well. An easy A, but I'd rather take a hard class that makes me learn than an easy class which doesn't teach me anything.
Nice guy. Boring lectures, dry material, but otherwise easy. Don't buy the book, it will only confuse you with different notation. So you must attend class, take notes, and do homeworks(basically just what he did in class). Don't know how this material is applicable to anything outside of the simple senarios discussed in class.
He's a really nice guy but talks a lot. I felt bad for not going to some of his classes because he was so nice. No need to buy the book, make sure you write down the notes because the homeworks and short answer test questions are exactly that.
This class is SOOOOOOO Boring!! He talks ALOT and he repeats himself over & over again!! ..however it's not that hard of a class...but good luck to you if you take it!!
He's a nice guy, but his class is quite hard.
So boring. He's realy nice and will try to help you, but is so boring.
Boooooooooooooring
This class is so booring. He repeats himself a lot and it makes the time seem like its standing still.
He tells you what to do and gives you time to do it. It's hard to stay awake through his class though.
he's not a bad guy-- have be able to roast out the crap that he says. For example, in one class he can go on and on about a topic, and really all you'll be graded on is the 2% he mentioned about rats or something. You don't need books. I'm almost positive that he reads this cause his exams used to be take home, and now they're not
True, he is boring. It's only because he repeats himself. If you can stay awake through his class, you will learn alot. His tests are fair and he never throws you surprises.
The most boring teacher ever!!! However, if you can stay atleast half awake you should be able to get a good grade. Do attend though and make sure you take notes, he tends to ask some pretty random questions on his tests.
TAKE HIM! sooo easy. Dont buy the book. Go to class. He tests directly off class notes, gives open notes exams (yes even final!) and tests off of hw, which he reviews in class & gives answers to after u hand it in. Full points for hw if you complete it. His lectures actually get better towards the end when you do experiments. Would take him again.

Really good teacher and knows what he is talking about! It was boring at times but overall it was worth it. The tests were take home and didnt have to buy the books. Definetly take him=)
This class is easy, just go to class. Don't even bother buying the books, it's a waste of money. TAKE THIS CLASS...
He is a great teacher.
NICE GUY BUT IF U WANNA LEARN SOMETHING U HAVE TO MAKE GREAT EFFORTS URSELF
One of the easiest 300 Level Course I believe. He's a nice guy and very helpful. Come to him and ask questions. He's willing to answer anything you need. Besides the fact, the class is pretty boring itself, but you have to attend the class. Most of the questions on the exams are from the homework and lecture notes. Over all, I love him! =)
econ 412 professor heiner clearly lost his passion for teaching. Nice guy though. it was because of his lectures that i determined i had 768 strands of hair on my left arm.bring a magazine to lectures or you may fall asleep. p.s. he looks like **** cheney oh..and make sure to get the copy of the exams before u take the class. (it doesn't change)
Ron Heiner is the man. Actually he is my dad and i was just checking out professors for my school so i thought i would check him out. Cargo pants..is right on! Plus he got the word cash money from me...what a stud.
this guy is incredibly boring its the first class i have been able to sleep in since high school. game theory is interesting otherwise, other profs explained better though. besides that, open notes tests so im happy to take the A. oh i also got my highest tetris score in his class :) whomp whomp
prof will stare at your**** if you try to ask a question
I was so confused about this class from the very beginning. But he is really a nice guy.
He is such a nice guy, he really is passionate about Econ. If you go to class and take good notes you should be fine. He might give the midterm and final as take home :)
Easy class, just go to class and take good notes, you can get an easy A. Midterms and finals are either open notes or take home. The only problem would be paying attention to him, he's boring. Take him before he retires!!!
tests require a lot of bs ing expects students to explain every possible assumption, final was take home. overall minimal work for an A.
Very boring, especially at 9am in the morning. He explains some hard material very well. However, Do not underestimate his take home tests. The best way to do well on his tests is to write down EVERYTHING he says in lecture. I ended up with an A by copying my lecture notes onto the tests without even fully understanding some of the concepts.
looking back now, i actually really enjoyed his lectures. he's very clear and nothing is confusing. he'll explain things twice if you do ask as well though. might even add econ as a minor bc of him!
You dont need the book, everything is from class notes, so Id say never miss a class. Some of the material can be difficult just because he pays so much attention to detail, but midterm was open note, and final take home, so that made it much more manageable. You really have to go to every class in order to take notes.
very important to get good notes.
This class is easy as long as you go to every single class and write down exactly everything he says and writes on the board. There are two exams (the final is take home) that are composed of questions almost identical to his problem sets. Take good notes and listen. He is not a good public speaker, but the information he is saying is interestng
DONT buy the books, he never uses them. Just go to class and write down everything he says and you should get an A...easy easy easy and nice teacher. A lil weird tho...
I loved Professor Heiner! I am horrible at Econ - I was actually enrolled in in the spring semester with Williams but dropped and took it over the summer with Heiner. He explains everything clearly - problems sets are normally exactly what is going to be on the test...just go to class everytime and take good notes! You will do well!
Prof. Heiner is really knowledgeable about Game Theory. His stories are extremely interesting and fun. Problem sets are gone over in class and almost exactly what is on the exam. Copy everything he says ever, and you won't get below an A-.
hes a great professor. class is really easy. attendance is mandatory only to copy EVERYTHING he says. its an open note midterm and a take home final. his questions are exactly what he covers in the class. there are problem sets but only for participation and he goes over them after you turn them in. copy everything and you will get an A.
I miss two classes, and God forbid you do so because the exams are only on the random discussions you have during class about mice having negative income effects. The final exam is take-home, and everyone just copies eachothers notes. Again, not good if you don't know anyone in the class. My least favorite Econ class from a world renowned program.
He is one of the easier teachers and really knows his stuff. Going to class is manditory b/c he doesn't use the book at all. Go to class, take all the notes and you'll leave with a very high grade and new knowledge.
Meh, not gonna learn a whole hell of a lot. Long and boring classes but mandatory. Write everything down and you will be fine.
DO NOT BY MATERIALS FROM THIS CLASS! Absolutely none of it is used in the test or homeworks and it will not supplement them AT ALL. This guy really is something, there was soooooooo much copying in this class I feel like that's how anyone got above a C. Make friends with kids in the class and you'll be fine, otherwise good luck
This class was not difficult. Professor Heiner knows his stuff, but is not the best communicator. Do the homework assignments, take some notes, and you will do very well. Open note mid-term and a take home final. Easy class.
Easily the most generous partial credit giver I've ever had and his grading scheme allows you to make up a lot of ground if you (like me) screw up your midterm--should've failed the midterm, but he gave me a C+. Dug out of the whole with his MASSIVELY weighted final (if you choose it to be) for an A. Complex topic, lots of notes. DON'T BUY THE BOOK
Prof Heiner is a great professor, I took him for Summmer, go to class, copy everything down. Exams come straight from the problem sets. Very easy class.
Really nice teacher. Took him over the summer. Don't bother buying the books. They aren't used at all. Trick is: go to every class. Copy everything he says and everything he writes on the board. The test comes straight from the hw that comes straight from the lecture. Literally regurgitate everything he says, and you can at least get a B.
Honestly the most boring and useless class I've ever taken in my life. He just walks in and starts talking for 75 minutes. He is consistently late to class so he ends up letting class out over 5 minutes late on a regular basis. Just go to class and write everything down and you'll be fine but good luck staying awake. Also, don't buy the book.
I would consider him a slightly above-average professor. He does all of his lessons on the board, which I really appreciate, but that also means you need to go to every class. The class is not difficult (can use a page of notes on the midterm and the final is take home) but he takes points off for small mistakes. Do NOT buy the textbook(s).
boring class. Midterm and Final ;can use one piece of paper to use as notes. homework almost every class but it's just counted for completion. if you come to class, take notes, do homework you can get a B.
i was lost from the start. the material is intimidating, but you can get a B by just going to class, copying the notes and doing the homework. homework is just checked for completion and is 10% of final grade. you don't need the book.
Super boring. You learn nothing from this class. Not a lot of work, so you have little room for improving your grade if you get a bad start. Tries to push his political bias on students. Most students copy off each other for the take-home final, so the class really only rewards slackers.
He explains very slowly and repeats it so that you can retain the information very well, that is what I like about his old fashioned way of teaching. Plus, it is enjoyable even though sometimes you don't know how it's related to econ. If you attend, listen to him, understand, and take notes, it's easy and you can get an A.
If you want to learn something, don't take his class! 1 hour and a half of note-taking! TAKE IT FROM ME, MOST BORING, PAINFUL CLASS TO LISTEN TO. If you miss taking notes of any small detail, you'll suffer on the exam. Waste of money, Take Salter's class because he provides VALUABLE, USEFUL INFORMATION!TRUST ME ON THIS.
Worst professor I've had at Mason. He rambles on and on every class and hardly makes sense. Don't buy the book. Copy notes word for word and copy them onto the open note midterm and take home final. So boring. Good luck not falling asleep for 75 minutes every class.
I had Heiner for intermediate Micro and he was ALRIGHT for that class. Game theory was just incredibly useless with him though. I'm legitimately upset I took this class because I really like Econ and could have actually learned something useful in other classes. Take this class if you just want a good grade, otherwise it's just boring and useless.
Let me just start by saying I am a straight-A Honors College student. This course has THREE grades. Homework, midterm, and final. If you screw up on one thing it's going to weigh you down. He is confusing, information is irrelevant, and his tests require you to copy his white board chicken scratch word for word. I got a B- for not copying correctly
Best class! Notes on final and midterm, can't be any more clear! Easy A and Heiner knows what's up!
The man is boring, notes are detailed and tests open notes. His lectures are actually interesting. People who don't find it interesting either text, chat on facebook, or do hw for other classes. Pretty chill class, take it.
SO EASY. he will not answer any questions, or keep your interest very well, but you will kick this classes but. Tests are exactly like the problem set, and the final was take home and open everything.
People who dont like him skipped class and didnt pay attention. If you go to class and take notes you will get an A without studying. He teaches masters style game theory but has undergrad expectations. You will learn a lot about different problems and notation which I very much enjoyed. Some people dont like the subject and thus dont like Heiner.
All you have to do is understand the problem sets and you are guaranteed an A. You get a cheat sheet on the midterms and the final is take home. Easy professor
Easy class. 3 Grades = HW + Midterm (allow cheat sheet + Final (take home). Don't buy textbooks. Attendance not mandatory. Tips: Record or Copy every word he lectures and draw every graph carefully. If you want to pass, take this class with him.
Overall, pretty easy course. For his tests you must be able to regurgitate every word from lecture, which isn't too difficult because you get a cheat sheet for the midterm and the final is a take home. You just have to bear through boring and mostly pointless lectures for the few important points.
Prof. Heiner was a great teacher and always kept lectures interesting. Took the class over the summer and never found myself dozing. Some of the problems sets had awkward wording but the exams were straight forward with crystal clear questions. Would highly recommend Prof. Heiner for ECON 306.
Heiner is extremely passionate about the subject and is very knowledgable. Homeworks are graded for completion and there is a midterm and final. The exams are very similar to the homework problem sets. Attendance isn't required but I would not recommend skipping because you'll get lost fast.
He's an adorable old man who is very into econ. A nice prof and the only 2 exams (take home final) are directly from lectures. Do not need book. Make sure though to pay attention fully when he is talking and write down what he says since you need to have good explanations for exam Q's. Attendance not needed but should go.
This class was really easy. There are only two exams, the midterm and the final. His lectures might be boring, but he is very passionate about the subject. Don't skip class because you will get confused, and make sure you write down everything he lectures about because it'll be useful for the exams and homework.
OHMYGOD how dry his lectures were. Literally stands at the front of the class and talks endlessly. Not a very interactive class at all. Exams based off HW. However, he means well and is very respectful towards students. but if you don't have attention span of a monk or yogi. or someone else with intense focus. don't bother taking.
1 midterm (40%), final (60%) & practice problems (10%) but if you do 10% or better on final then final counts 70% & midterm drops to 30%. Grades practice problems (given out about once a week) on completion. Midterm & final exact same as practice problems. Dry lecture & not very engaging. Take good notes. I got an A- & not even an Econ major. OK...
Do not buy neither of the 2 textbooks required for the class. Tests questions come straight from his lectures. Record his lectures if you want to pass this class.
Incredibly boring. Just go to class, mess around on your laptop or phone, and copy absolutely everything he writes on the board (many people just took pics with their phone) and you'll probably be fine. Nice guy
These people are no joke when they say you have to know write down everything! literally if you don't mention something that he mentioned in class he will take points off. I am an A student and i managed to get an A- so his class isn't terrible but you definitely have to work for it. only advice: write down everything. literally.
The essay part questions on the exams are based on the HW. Make sure you copyrecord his answers when he goes over it in class because these are the answers he will be looking for on test. TF portion based on lectures. Come to class everyday, take good notes, record lecture, review it all, and you should pull off an A-B.
Nice guy, but Go to class, take good notes + turn in the hw. Midterm is very similar to hw problems + the final is take home. Class can be a bit confusing but it's not a very easy subject to teach. Doesn't give out A's so if you actually try you'll get either an A- or a B+. Don't bother buying the textbook- we didn't use it + it's not helpful.
It's an interesting class. If you pay attention, this class is intellectual. Prof is knowledgeable. The exams are challenging and requires comprehensive interpretation from the concepts you learn in class. I learn that I should ask him to clarify any concepts that I am unclear in class and before the exams.
He is a terrible professor. I took him for 306 and am now struggling with basic economic principle. I will gain absolutely nothing in the class. GMU has to sack him because we don't gain anything from his class.
You probably have to go to his each class because he always gave problem sets without telling you before. Problem sets are all about class notes. Midterm is about problem sets. He never received late problem sets. If you don't take this class in summer session, final is take-home. Overall, not hard to get a decent grade.
You need to do the problem sets and go to EVERY class to pass because exams are straight from lecture (don't buy the book). Write down everything he says! He rambles to get lecture material across and answer Qs which was kinda annoying. Final is 50% & midterm is 40% so don't screw up! Put in the effort and you'll walk out with at least a B.
Midterm and Final are 90% of your grade with the midterm being weighted less than the final if you do better on the final. 10% comes from turning in homework for completion. DO THE HOMEWORK AND GO TO CLASS, all the tests are based off them. He rambles a lot but he knows what he's talking about, as long as you do the homework you'll pass ezpz.
Professor Heiner is a very nice guy who is extremely knowledgeable about economic analysis and theory. Class is all lecture, old school whiteboard notes. No PPTs. HW is completion, Midterm, and Final are only grades. Very kind guy and will help clarify after class if you ask. Class is intellectually stimulating.
Great guy, tries to make lecture relatable & entertaining. Grading is based on a few problem sets that are for completion only & widterm w/ cheatsheet & a take home final. No textbook needed because exams are based on study guides he sends weekly & basically repeats of the problem sets. Made econ easier to understand for a non-econ major like me.
One of the best economics professors and professors overall at Mason. He is dedicated to the discipline of economics and explains material in a concise and thorough manner.
Very nice professor, knows his subject well and explains it well too, lectures could be boring, but they are very useful, go through lecture notes he sends and problem sets he gives and you'll be good
There are about 7 homeworks that are graded on completion and come directly from the online textbook chapters he provides (a.k.a. no you do not need to buy a book). A mid-term and final make up the tests given in class. The information on the tests come directly from the textbook chapters he provides. You don't have to come to class.
Ronald Heiner is a nice professor. You should prepare only three things. Problem sets, Midterms, and the Final. Problem sets are given by online, basically turn in and you will get full credit. Midterms are quite hard, so you should be able to understand all the concepts from study guides. Finals are take-home, so you could do well.
Professor Heiner is a very kind man and clearly very smart, especially in his field of game theory. His lectures can be a bit dry, but definitely attend or you will miss important info. He is very sweet and is happy to clarify things for you if you ask him after class. Go to class, write down what he says and writes, and the tests will not be hard.
Professor Heiner is an amazing professor. Just worry about problem sets, a midterm, and a final. All the stuff he provides on his lectures are online, no need to come to class. Funny sense of humor.
Simply one of the best economics professors at George Mason. Would take another one of his courses if I could. Show up to class, take good notes and you'll be all set for the exams. The key to doing well in this class is to show up and take good notes. Textbook not required.
Had Heiner for ECON 306 and 412 and both were easy classes. Show up, take good notes and you're golden. The problem sets are graded on completion but it helps to do well on those because exams come straight from the problem sets and lecture. It's hard to pay attention since he talks endlessly and he always goes over class time which was annoying.
Grade is composed of problem sets, midterm, and final exam. Heiner lectures the whole class and provides detailed PDFs of the lesson/notes. He showed up 5-20 minutes late every class. I enjoyed class and it was obvious that only a handful of people cared. Easy A . If you review his notes you'll be fine.
He is late every day because he goes over class time of each class and doesn't teach the material. Half the semester we talked about movie critiques. He rambles on about people and ideas and never gets to the point of how it will help us learn something. He makes the material confusing and never looks back at the class to answer questions.
Heiner is a great professor, Mid Term is one page open note, take home final and problem sets that are based on completion. He does grade a little tough but that is because you have more resources at your disposal for the exams. Take him he makes econ interesting also he is really nice. I plan on taking him for ECON 412 Game Theory
Heiner is amazing, tough grader with written questions , but that is only because you have the material source for the mid term and final exam. take him you will enjoy the variety.
If you are an ECON major, I would definitely not recommend taking this class. It will not prepare you for further ECON studies. Dr. Heiner does not provide any feedback on the problem sets, and he is very difficult to reach outside of class. The class is easy to pass if you put in minimal effort, but it is not worth your tuition.
Prof. Heiner always showed up late and would often go on tangents about topics. Grading consisted of problem sets, a midterm, and a final. I truly struggled to learn anything insightful in the class and if you're an econ major I would not suggest this class. Should be an easy B or higher. Lectures are not stimulating either.
Heiner is one of my favorite professors at GMU. He does not require you to buy a textbook but instead emails chapters. The class consists of HW checked for completion, a midterm with a cheat sheet and a take home final. He does ramble a bit but he is a very brilliant professor. The lectures are heavy but all the information is in the emails.
I love Heiner, he is a very old but sweet professor. Problem sets for completion only. One midterm with one cheat sheet and the final exam is take home. Heiner has a different viewpoint on econ, you can actually learn a lot in his class that you thought wasn't relevant to the subject. Game theory is tricky but take him, his classes are not hard.
He is amazing, SO SMART and he builds a safe learning environment for you, he even says he doesn't grade for credit on problem sets just so you can focus more on learning and less on grades. Amazing !!!
Professor Heiner is a good person. He loves what he does which is always nice. Personally, I found myself drifting often during his lectures as he does tend to ramble about stuff. The class overall was not for me and you will find the curriculum is a roller coaster of topics. He made no effort to supply lectures with the transition to online.
Heiner is a fantastic teacher! I took both his Econ 306 and Econ 412. There's a midterm, final, and problem sets (10%) grade on completion. His chapter lectures are interesting, keep up with the small amount of work weekly and you will be golden. Highly recommend.
DONT TAKE HIM. He went off topic, it is wise to take online.
Out of all the classes I have taken in college so far, his readings are the best and easiest to digest. You should do fine on the exams if you read and pay attention in the lectures.
He is the absolute worst teacher I have had in all of my years of schooling. He provides his own deeply opinionated and error-ridden "study chapters" that contain little-to-no substance. He shows up to class late, keeps the class late, and refuses to wear a mask at any point. If you actually want to learn something take literally anyone else.
Overall, this class was super easy, however, he is an awful professor. The entire class is based off his Study Chapters which border on conspiracy theory filled junk. He routinely would show up late or cancel class. We didnt show up for the first month of the semester and he never wore a mask. Would have ranked lower if class wasnt so easy
His review guides are amazing! super easy to understand and shows examples. TBH the teacher is ok, hes nice for sure but not amazing at lectures. This is my second class with him, second A. If youre good at keeping up with work and following along with a study guide then take it!!!
He is by far the best Econ Professor to take. Has his own study chapters, which he sends by email and the problem sets and exams are based on what is in the study chapters. Amazing class
Avoid. 1. He doesn't label the axes on any of the diagrams he draws in class. 2. The homework is literally just from his class notes. 3. He doesn't use ANY math. This is a huge red flag. 4. None of his lectures were even remotely related to standard topics intermediate micro. Someone should complain to the Econ department about this guy.
If you take micro with him you will regret it. I got an A in his class but didn't learn anything and was confused the whole time. Now I'm having to teach myself calculus-based micro theory to pass my other Econ courses. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs.
As an Econ major, I feel unprepared moving forward in my degree after his class. He writes his own material for the class which is full of personal opinions and uncorroborated theories.Yes, the class is easy, but you'll learn nothing of substance. I would report him to the department if I thought it would do anything. Take literally ANYONE else!
Took as a summer class, most lectures were one-on-one. Prof. Heiner is very warm and gives great feedback in class. The readings are based on his lecture notes and are as brief, intuitive, and direct as possible. Overall, Dr. Heiner is one of the best GMU professors Ive had.
His lectures are boring and due dates for assignments can be very random. For example only about 36 hours between releasing the homework and due date. Additionally, it is very easy to miss assignments. Homework is worth 10% extra credit if as you submit all of them with at most 2 late. He writes his own material for the course it is semi inaccurate
Dr. Heiner is a great professor that loves his lectures. He has a custom textbook that he specifically catered for his classes so buying a textbook is out of the picture. If you don't show up to class, rest assured that his lectures follow his textbook pages to a T so you don't miss much. Great professor for all those who are passionate about econ

Professor Heiner's ECON306 class has a unique approach. While his lectures can be lengthy, the course material is well-structured, and his custom study chapters are informative. Unstuck ai was a great supplementary resource for exam prep. Overall, a solid class for dedicated students.
While his lectures could get lengthy and hard to stay engaged, the course structure was great to keep up with and understand the content. Instead of textbooks he has his own "Study Chapter" that he writes and can many times stray away from economics. Had homework clearly based on these study chapters every week or so and exam followed homework.
This class may as well have been an asynchronous class. Attendance was never mandatory except for the midterm. The class was problem sets (up to 5 questions about the reading and the reading basically gives the answer), 1 midterm exam (with a page cheat sheet), and a take-home final exam. If you do the readings and take notes, you'll be just fine.
