Great teacher. Really knows his stuff. A truly enjoyable class.
I don't remember joining the army.
Very Effective Teaching Style
the absolute best teacher I've ever had!
He's the best teacher I've had thus far.
Want someone helpful? Funny? Remotely entertaining? Don't take this
Teaches how to make it look good above doing it right. I don't like that.
He starts off as a smart ass but is really cool at the end.
What a stud muffin...I love the crazies
I knew all the stuff he taught
The next Hitler
Great Teacher. Knows his stuff... Used to be MIT! (he hated the rich dorks)
He might know his stuff, but dosen't make up for being an ass
A genious and a Physics Nazi with a great sense of humor
The course isn't too bad, the guy just can't teach worth a darn.
Pretty good teacher, class isn't very hard. Nazi about his way to do things.
Velocity-Vector Man !!!
You struggle, but you learn it or drop it.
Hard class, Great teacher
Could he be a bit more a**l? because he's not an** enough.
Excellent professor, great course.
This guy needs to realize not everyone learns the same way IMO a very bad teache
He's funny, but he's also a psycho. Not to be crossed.
He tries to teach you by being the biggest jerk possible. Teaching by making fun
You always know where you stand and what it takes to succeed. USE THE PLC
It wasn't that bad
Its not the army! Ok?
He's got nazi-tendancies, but he knows his ****...use the PLC
Scares the freshmen quite a bit, but take the threats with a grain of salt. You certainly WILL learn physics.
good teacher, hard class, funny
It sucks until its over but you will learn it
It would be a great course if you could understand his presentation of the material enough to be able to do his homework. Because once you leave the lecture it no longer seems to apply to the homework.
in retrospect, if I was teaching this course, I would do it the same way.
Fun class, learn a lot. Not as horrible as the hype.
Bieniek's in-class antics force you to redefine your notion of him every day. He was a great teacher.
Bieniek was awesome it seemed like he was so hard on us because he wanted to succeed and become usefull members of society. and he had great ideas to help everyone understand physics. I rate him in my top 4 teachers of all time.
One of the worst teachers on campus
He is a physics teacher, crazy and noone likes the subject, but you can learn a few things.
Very good teacher. Although, his methods of solving problems seem tedious at first, you gradully realize that they work very well.
Class is hard, you have to really try. He pushes students hard, but knows what he's doing. Lecture can be..um..interesting at times.
Dr. Bieniek, likes to be dramatic, about absolutely everything. His methods of teaching, while helpful to some, seem preposterous to me, almost as if he is putting on some kind of a show. His way for doing things seems often unnecessary, space ran out
Good teacher! The teachers that push you the hardest are the best to have. You'll be glad you had him someday, plus, he's got a great sense of humor and nothing beats his tricycle-rocket demo.
Great Teacher... Always keeps the class working.. He teaching type matched well with learning type.. PLC came in very handy when problems would stump me.. One of the best teachers I have had at UMR.. Cares about the student's success in the class.
crazy............but..............just plain crazy
good teacher, time put into demos and lectures, kinda crazy though
If you pay attention and do your homework anyone can pass this class. PLC is VERY helpful. Do not get behind and you will not have a problem.

If you work hard and adapt to his way of teaching, you'll do fine.
I think that his class was harder than it should have been. Never being exposed to physics before is one thing, but learning Bieniek's way to another.
I think he forgot we DO take other classes than his at one time. The PLC was a joke, people became dependant on it and failed their tests. I never went (to PLC or lecture) and got a B just by reading the book. Listening to him was just a waste of time.
I love Physics and Dr. Beiniek is a great professor in the subject. He teaches us how to do things the right way the first time so we don't have to check it. If you do it his way then it will always and I mean always be right.
A good teacher that is hard is better than a bad teacher that is easy
No Comments
He is tough but fair. Can't complain about him. If you try hard you will suceed, anything else and you will be back with him next semester. He has really cool demonstrations though.
I didn't learn anything in that class...just try to get a good grade on the test that's all
He is an ass, but a great teacher
sorry but I don't believe I should be rating him as hot or not.
very good teacher but a little eccentric sometimes about his policies
You might love him, you might hate him, but he is a remarkable man. This is a good course but not for the timid. I'm not gonna get an A but I would have hated to have missed this course.
He is hard but you will learn alot. I think you have to spend way to much time in this class but you learn alot probably be better off because of it.
very organized and willing to admit to error.
He is mean, but really wants you to learn the materials.
very solid, hardnosed, but hysterical teacher
Lecture is sometimes funny, but he is really mean and sometimes expects too much of us.
Wow....have fun with that one
Most cut and dried teacher I've ever had. He doesn't pull any punches, but he does give sufficient warning for all of his "mean" methods to make us learn.
Not very impressed with his teaching style. It is not his strictness that bothered me, but his arrogance. I did learn a lot, but not because of him. It was because of the Physics Learning Center and the recitation instructors.
This man is a great teacher who really keeps your attention with his comical teaching style. He requires a lot of work out of you, but you will have a full understanding of the material when you're done.
He's like Lewis Black, if Lewis Black were a physics teacher instead of a comedian. He tries for a bit of the funny though. He's strict, but not mean. He only pretends to hate you. Just don't let him intimidate you.
He wants the students to do well, but doesn't teach us how to do the mounds of work he assigns. The book + recitation instructors taught me all I learned in class. He is arrogant, repetitive, and wastes lecture time. Avoid him like the plague.
Hardest professor I've ever had. Very willing to help and answer questions. Jokes are not a waste of time. I like the monty python videos.
If you don't learn the information in this class it is most likely your own fault. He is a good professor and just wants to teach. He is definitely one of my best professors.
Pay attention, do your homework, and you'll be fine. The guy who said he wastes time with jokes is an idiot. The movies are cool, especially the monty python ones.
I really enjoy the class. He makes physics fun to learn, even the hard stuff. I love the little videos before class (Thurs was who's on first skit!!!)
i dont like his teaching style
Excellent knowledge of the material. Acts like an **** at the start of the course. Do what he says, study alot, and you will learn Physics. I would say the course was hard to very hard, but you learn an extreme amount of information.
This is quite possibly the best professor I have ever had. I learned a ton from him in one semester. He acts like an ass to get you to study and to be funny, but it makes you study and learn the material. He also incorporates comedy into his lectures.
Hard but AWESOME! He does a great job and catches way too much crap.
Bieniek is an outstanding professor. He gets your attention by throwing in the jerk act but he's a great guy. The only reason I didnt get an A in the class is that I didnt take his advice and I was lazy.
Bieniek is a belligerent old fool who couldn't teach his way out of a paper bag if his life depended on it. He may express the concepts of physics well but the things you need to understand for the test you have to learn by yourself or not at all.
Excellent professor. Likes to put on the drill sergeant act, but it's all to make people either learn or drop out. If you are a slacker, you won't like him. So don't be a slacker.
I completely agree with the person who said Bieniek can't teach his way out af a paper bag. Anyone can stand in front and read a slideshow. As far as the Drill SGT Comment, He is nothing like a Drill SGT, trust me. Physics isn't hard, unless he teaches
While I did enjoy Bieniek's non-conventional teaching, the class was INSANELY hard. I think they need to tone it down because I wouldn't be surprised if half the people who fail that class need mental help afterwards.
This class is HARD, and at first I thought bieniek was an ass, and still do, but somehow I can't say he was horrible... his personality is just hard to read.
By FAR one of THE best professors at UMR next to Akers! I thoroughly enjoyed his class as well as exploring the world of physics. This class requires a lot of work but you will learn the all around fundamental concepts of physics. Awesome teacher!
I am not sure what all of yall are saying about this class being hard. I found it to be one of the easiest classes I have taken here in rolla. Bieniek is extremely boring, and the stupid PLC is completely worthless.
He is one of the best teachers i have ever had but he is extremely to hard. I really don't see the point in being that hard because its just phyics.
this guy is your worst nightmare. a total hard ass on the little things in your work, but he is the best teacher i have had, more than willing to help and he knows everything about physics and can comunicate it to you well
Bieniek is my father. He is my master. I will serve him because he owns me. Do not underestimate his power.
He is cool, If you get used to his staff and follow his methods you will do fine in phy23
He's not nearly as hard or as mean as he wants you to think he is. Just go to class and pay attention and you'll be fine.
I heart Bieniek
He was difficult and annoying in class. If possible to avoid him, do so.
Seriously, the dude licked a plunger. Enough said
This wasn't an easy class, but he teaches well. His lectures were interesting and kept me awake.
Being a repeat offender, this class is easier but by far not anywhere near easy. However, let Bieniek tear into you in the PLC because you will learn a lot more that way.

On a scale of 1 to 10 i rate Bieniek's overall teaching skill a 3 and for eye-brow grooming a negative 2.
Dr. Bieniek is the BEST professor I have EVER had!! He is clear and succinct, thorough in everything. He treats his students like adults, not students. I admire his phenomenal intellect and appreciation for excellence in everything. I will forever remember his class. I love you, Dr. Bieniek!!
To whoever made the comment about the eyebrows: Just remember that the people who actually take the time and effort to learn something from Bieniek, instead of worrying about his eyebrows, will probably make more money in a year than you will in a lifetime.
He's a good man, but his teaching style, while it may be effective for some, is not for me. The class is made way harder than it has to be so he can attempt to teach us how to think. I'd rather just learn the physics and get on with class.

Hard as hell, is a jerk for the first couple weeks, but after you get past that, he's a really good prof and you learn a lot.
He is a great professor, he will challenge you in everyway possible in order to pass his class. Not very fun class, very fun professor. Unique and very intelligent
VERY CLEAR IN HIS LECTURES. HE LIKES TO USE DEMOS IN CLASS WHICH HELPS OUT A LOT. HE ALSO LIKES TO LICK THINGS. IF YOU FALL ASLEEP IN THIS CLASS YOUR CRAZY, HE IS A VERY FUNNY GUY.
Just face it. Dr. Bieniek rocks your face off.
BIENIEK IS THE MAN. THE CLASS IS MUCH HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE. I STRUGGLE THROUGH THE HOMEWORK AND NEVER KNOW ANY OF THE MATERIAL UNTIL 1 WEEK BEFORE THE TESTS. I THEN LOOK AT OLD TESTS, AND SOMEHOW MANAGE TO GET A'S ON THE EXAMS.
"This is an ex-parrot" Bieniek should teach a class on Monty Python. i'd take it.
This class is hard. Bieniek does stuff that he thinks will be good for the students, but they usually are. PLC is worthless because everyone just puts the problem on the board, the profs laugh at you for getting it wrong then say try again.
Obviously he's posting most of these comments himself. What a joke.
the bieniek knows his stuff. he makes it seem so easy in class, but once you get to the homework, its a different story
Everything he says makes perfect sense until you have to do it yourself. It takes a lot of time to understand this stuff fully. I liked the Henry V speech given in lecture 21, it gave me hope.
Bieniek is a smart man. He makes his class more enjoyable than it really should be by his antics. He'd make a good leader in the military if he could shed those last few pounds. Get dedicated and persevere a little, man! The kicker: he's even rude and crude in my dreams!
Bieniek rocks so hardcore, it's not even funny. But it is, because he's hilarious. Physics was my least favorite class when I came to Rolla, now it's my most favorite, just because he knows how to teach. I wish he taught every class I take.
I agree that he probably posted most of those comments himself. I have never met anyone who liked him. Bieniek is a huge jerk, but I do hear he is actually a softy when you get to know him. If you can avoid any contact with him, do.
I like how he talks about this page in class at least once a week. I think he is posting this stuff. I also think Dr. Vojta should take his place and he should go do research or something in a closet.
He knows what he is talking about, and dosnt like to tell other people how to figure it out. You have to have outside help. eg. Rec, plc. Consider him the bouncer to Rolla, and there are no fake id's.
Great teacher, very clear and passionate. And he has a sweet booty
I agree, he does have a really nice butt; I guess I just never noticed it before. I wonder what kind of workout regiment he does to keep it looking so nice. Maybe it's all natural; I don't know. Anyways he's a good teacher.
The class sucks, everybody knows that. Bieniek is a cool guy, he just teaches something nobody cares about. The homework is stupid, and does little to prepare you for the test. I hope I pass.
Hard class, great professor.
class is made way harder than it needs to be, and beinek is a loser. people like him should be taken out back and horse whipped a few times.
Not that difficult... do the work, and pass. slack off, get hammered... simple as that.
His lectures only serve to confuse you when you do the homework. Basically he just rambles about craftsman screwdrivers while we stay up till 2 in the morning doing the homework that has only slightly resembles what he lectured about. The man has no people skills, either.
Rather difficult class, but he's an awesome professor. He tends to get a little off topic in class but it's usually really funny so it's ok. My only suggestion is to get the class before the very end of the day so you can actually stay awake. Oh yea, and do the work and make sure you understand
Dr. Bieniek can be summed up as this. Ever seen Harry Potter? Dr. Bieniek is proffessor Snape.
Dr. Bieniek is a good teacher once you get past his outer shell. To summarize him up, he's an **** but a good teacher. Good luck in Vegas next year!
Dr. Bieniek is one of the best teachers at UMR, if not the best. The class is fairly easy. He makes a big deal about not making errors, yet he doesn't hold a copyright to his lecture series (which he displays on each slide). Misrepresentation of the truth (fraud) is a HUGE error in judgment.
Doesn't work example, just expect you to know how to do problem from his lecturing on the theory.
I'm really bummed that he won't be there next year! All students should be required to take Physics with him. I am actually challenged in his class! I love his enthusiasm for the class and his dedication to the students. His involvement in Res. Life shows that he truly cares about his students!!!!!!
Anybody who doesn't get to take Bieniek's class is missing out. It was by far one of my favorite classes and teachers ever, although I would never have admitted that until after the class was almost up. It can be tough but it was all worth it.
He's a super good teacher if you pay attention and study every other waking hour. He actually hold's UMR students up to higher standards and makes you work for what you want. The class was very challanging.
"Look around you; at the end of the semester either you or one of thepeople sitting next to you will be gone." I hate this man with a passion... lectures were uninformative and pointless and had nothing to do with the homework at all, not to mention he was unfriendly and degradingly mean and completely unapproachable. Vojta is so much better.
The man's a beast. Probably one of the best teachers ever... could be Dr. Faust, could be the devil incarnate, who knows? And yes, he did lick a used toilet plunger in front of our class and stopped a spinning tire with his tongue. He's the man. Take his class if you can, and then prepare yourself for the worst manhandling of your life.
DO it his way!! if you do you will get the right answer and full credit, if you dont, god speed! its easy if you just payatention to his directions..
He's tough, but if you pay attention and apply yourself, you actually learn the material. It's been 4+ years since I took his class, and I can still use and explain everything we covered! Hardly true of many other easier instructors.
He's one of those GOOD teachers that you'll remember. He has high standards. You'll get the grade that you deserve. If you want to be learn the material take his class. I loved the learning center he provides, I hope other profs take notice. If you're a slacker student take someone else, or better yet, drop out of school.
This professor knows the material and knows how to teach. Lazy students hate him, and those with a work ethic love him.
When you take the class, you hate his guts. But a few years down the road you realize that he really made you know your stuff--which most people appreciate a bunch because it really separates us from people who took an easier physics. Other professors and even employers notice a huge difference. I'm very thankful I took this class with him!
OK... I had to take this class twice, once with Bieniek and once with Vojta. The class is just as hard no matter who you have, but with Bieniek its a lot more fun. He gets the class involved and knows the material better, but gives more HW. Go to all classes and do all HW. Use the PLC and everything will fall into place.
psycho
Personally I avoided him at all costs when I took this class, but he is a good teacher and knows his stuff. He's just a little insane.
Hard class, excellent professor. He is a hardass about doing it his way, but down the road you do realize his way WAS the right way. His techniques for problem solving are invaluable. You will get the grade you deserve if you put forth the effort.
Ron Bienkiek showers in grain alcohol. Really, he is a great prof, he's just really friggin hard, and really insane. He definately makes lecture interesting. If you don't work hard in this class, you won't succeed, and he makes that clear. Go to the PLCs, they help.
Hard class. He is very good at telling you what you did wrong and why what you did is wrong. In my opinion, he was not very good at telling you how to do it right. I did not find PLCs that helpful, but I foudn that in groups the homework was not bad. Tests were easy.
nobody told this guy not to drink the bong water, he is a lunatic, but seriously though its a hard class but easy if you do the work
Okay, I will admit...I did not like him the first probably ten weeks of class. However, once the drop date had passed, he became one of the greatest teachers in class because his philosiphy of the class is he wants to teach the people who want to be there. So stick it out! It's worth it in the end! Have fun!
I didnt like his class for first few days. He's harsh but he is really helpful if you go to PLC. His lectures were very clear, very well explained.
You will be forced to have this guy so there's no use in trying to get out. He is a funny guy and is very clear, but you will think he is weird. At first he seems like a jerk, but you eventually realize that he is helpful and that he is one of the better teachers on campus. This class is not easy so don't expect to slack off and still pass.
All around terrible teacher. In physics, you pretty much teach yourself. He's also the only option if you're taking this class at UMR
Best what I figured to regard him was the equivalent of House MD, but a Physics Professor. He's very blunt, a bit rough, but he knows his stuff and tries his best to beat it into you. He's very picky about those things that matter, and I stopped counting how many straw men he attacked in lecture. Do the Homework. All of it.
Yes, he is a little crazy, but that makes his lectures really interesting. Study the old tests on his website; it will help you a ton. The PLC is a really good. That is the only way I got my homework done without copying from the solutions manual. Put in the work and you should get at least a B.
I really liked this professor. He is a very blunt sort of individual, not afraid to call someone stupid if they're acting that way. Teaches the material in a very precise way. I learned a lot in his class. I would definitely take him as a professor again.
Dr. Bieniek runs a tight boat and lets everyone know that from the get go. He will call you out on mistakes and embarass you. However, he offers around 20 hours of help and is personally interacting with everyone during the PLCs. On short, he wants you to succeed and will help you but he will now do you any favors, which leaves it up to you.
Bieniek is a tough guy who makes you do things his way. But I enjoyed his lectures -- he keeps you awake and has demonstrations. His methods work and the help outside of class in PLC is great.
By his standards, I probably spent most of the class slacking off; I never read the book, I skipped some of the homeworks, and sometimes skipped recitation, yet I still got an A. Just study the online lecture notes, do most of the homework, and review the practice tests, and you'll be fine. He's a pretty cool guy, too. A complete nerd.
This class was not hard, just more confusing than anything. This was my first time ever taking PHY, so I had to learn a new concept that's why I had trouble in it, I spent to much time studying PHY and my grades in my other classes drop, Bieniek is a ok teacher but he will embarrass you if you ask questions I'm just glad it over for me Good Luck!!
he is a stud, don't let him scare you. best teacher on campus.
He can come off as terrifying, can seem kinda strict and not above embarrassing someone. He can seem mean but he's actually a fantastic teacher-he knows that phy23 is early in our classes & its' material is only built upon in classes to come-his methods are to not only teach you the material, but also to make you follow procedure in later courses.
looking back now, he was definitely one of the best prof. on campus. the principles he teaches you will carry over to so many of the engineering classes. The only problem is that your grades will get rocked unless you try really hard.
awesome teacher. his class is difficult, but if you go to lecture you will be fine. he is by far the best at being able to teach...he really knows how to relay information to students and doesn't assume you know everything
Dr. Bieniek is probably the best teacher I've ever had. It's obvious a tremendous amount of thought goes into the class and the lectures. You WILL study in this class, or you WILL take it again. Take with something easy like Calc 2 so you can study. The course is traumatic, but the material is pretty essential.
Dr. Bieniek represents everything that makes Missouri S&T shine on a resume. This man has contributed so much to the university in the form of LEAD and class grading structures. As for Physics 23, he expects you to come and act like a mature adult wanting to succeed in school and life. This isn't high school, and he makes sure you know it.
HIs method is very good for physics problems.
He can be scary and mean at first, but he's actually a nice guy. As the term goes on, he softens up, and is helpful. He really knows his stuff, try to stump him. He wants you to master the material, and if you don't, you will take the course again.
He is mean, but he is a good teacher, the class is not easy so don't feel bad if you dont get the stuff the first time.
Scares you for a few weeks and acts mean, probably to weed out, but you learn he is a nice guy and excellent teacher further in the course, his examples and teaching style have stuck with me for years, the best at physically explaining things simply with models and gadgets in class. Hated him at first, now i respect and want more hands on teaching.
Like others say - the course is traumatic, but the material covered is critical to engineering. Beiniek is the best professor for the position.
