Very good teacher. Very helpful. Entire grade is based on exams and quizzes (ouch). No extra credit problems on exams. Nonetheless, his teaching style is fantastic and he is always willing to explain things if you don't get it. He is a very laid back teacher, but don't take that to mean he is easy.
Excellent teacher. 10%Quizes.60%Tests.30%Final. Tough but not unreasonably. Tests are all straight forward out of lecture and homework. Does an excellent job of teaching the material. He knows his stuff.
I could barely concentrate because he is so sexy! I love the way he rolls up his sleeves!! LOL. He's a great teacher, but it is a very tough class.
I could barely concentrate because he is so sexy! I love the way he rolls up his sleeves!! LOL. He's a great teacher, but it is a very tough class.
Outstanding, devoted professor. His lectures are very worth and very easy to make sense. He inspires his passion for math to students. He neither takes attendance nor checks homework. Studying notes and doing homework: I guarantee you will get good grades. Highly recommend.
He was extremely helpful, and welcomed assistance during office hours (which I took advantage of quite a bit). Interesting guy, friendly.
Very good class lectures explanations. Can answers any of your questions. Quizes are based on h/w, tests are fair. No extra credits, Never drop the lowest score as other teachers do. Fair, nice and polite. Just do your homework, study, and you can easily get an A.
Considering that it's my third time taking Calculus1 (first time in CRC, though), the material is easy for me. But he covers it very well and very thoroughly. A fair teacher, too, when it comes to class attendance and behavior. If you treat him well, he will reciprocate nicely. Tests and quizzes are nothing to worry about as long as you do your homework. Good teacher, hands down.
great teacher
Great teacher, very helpful, very polite. class is based on tests and quizes. Doesn't collect HW. Doesn't give extra credit. Quizes are straight from HW. Tough subject but if you keep up its easy to get an A. Hes a wonderful teacher.
Great teacher! Explains everything throughly. Grade on only quizzes and test. He grade fairly and give a lot of partial credit. Take him if u can!
He is a great teacher. His tests are closed book closed notes, and final is cumulative (think about that, 10 chapters no open notes or anything. I recomend Mr. Luu or Larsen (open notes). But if you really want to learn statistics take B.
BEST MATH TEACHER i have ever had. doesnt make the class a cake and doesnt make it impossible. if you pay attention in class and do the homework (which is not too much), you will definetly get a 'B' but for an 'A' you need to go the extra mile (like doing the even problems).
Professor Breitenbach is a very dedicated and enthusiastic teacher. He perfectly answers all questions; he explains concepts thoroughly. Quizzes are 2 problems from homework. 3 exams and 1 final exam are neither hard nor strict. His teaching style should be a model for others. If you do homework, you will easily get an A. Highly recommend!
I took Linear Alg and DE with him. He's so hottt... but he really knows the materials pretty well. He loves prooving what's he's teaching ... that's what i love to do. Just concentrate in the lecture, everything should be understandable. LOVE HIM ! lol ...
He teaches a bit boring and I hate how he has to prove everything, i dont see why it matters. He is very helpful though, the tests arent too hard, and if you do your homework you should get a B or an A.
Great Professor. He knows his stuff. Explains material clearly and understandable. I took him for Calc I and III. You'll definitely leave his class actually knowing the material. Highly recommend for any Math class.
Probably the easiest teacher I've EVER had, but that doesn't mean he's a horrible instructor since he's actually very good at it. Many questions on his quizzes and tests are practically straight out of the textbook, meaning that doing your homework everyday is NECESSARY. It's actually optional, but it just helps that much more to do it anyway.
Hands down best math teacher I've taken here. Explains topics thoroughly and clearly. Extremely knowledgable, knows what problems trouble students and explains them in a way you'll understand. Homework is not mandatory but do it, lol. Tests are easy, quizzes easy. Overall good experience. I highly recommend this teacher.
Great teacher. Makes sure everyone understands the lectures, answers all questions asked, and does a great job explaining the material. Homework is optional, but if you want to pass you really have to do it.
Prof. B really wants students to understand what the problems mean rather than the mechanics of how they are calculated. There are 4 exams. no notes. final is cumulative. HARD! just go to class, pay attention, ask questions, be a student and you won't have any problems passing his class.
Great teacher. I completely recommend him. Knows his stuff and wants students to understand. Best way to succeed is to go to class.
Although he is a very good teacher, he is also a tough one. He teaches very concisely and is easy to follow. His tests are fairly difficult, but they seem to be similar to those of the end of each homework set of each section. Of our L.A. class, about 7 of 25 pre-transfer students were left standing. Get ready to work hard for this 3 unit class.
Class was hard. I dread coming everyday, hated every minute. Didn't learn much, but he teaches you how to use a TI-83 calculator like no other. Pretty much the only thing I learned in his class. Out of a full class, maybe 7 people were left, and don't even know if they passed the class. I hope you have some pre-cal under your belt, you'll need it.
way boring.. but he know waht he is talking about...it was not good for me..
He is a really good teacher if you know how to teach yourself calculus.
Mr.B really knows how to teach math. Its impossible that you will not learn math and pass his class. His test are not easy but are straight from lecture. Yeah, he is fair when it comes to grading. I have taken him for Calc, 1,2 and D.E. and he gave me A when i only had 89 percent. If you really want to learn math, Take this Prof.
Prof. Breitenbach is a great math professor. He is incredibly organized and clear, and if you have a question he will help you out. Attendance is really important. Studying at least a week in advance for the test is really important too. DO THE HOMEWORK, even if he does not collect it, it will help you pass the class, I promise! good luck.
Great teacher, absolutely knows what he's talking about during lectures, and can explain everything inside and out from a number of different perspectives. If you're going to take higher math classes, you should take Mr. B. Homework isn't collected, but get a study group and do it anyway.
I have no regrets taking Calculus Mr. B. He's been teaching calc for nearly 20 years, so he really knows his stuff. He's also funny at times. His tests will be easy as long as you do all hw problems. His teaching style is also very organized - from the way he solves problems on the board to explaining everything verbally. Gr8 teacher!Very recommnde
The best Maths professor ever. He is very helpful and makes the hard subjects easy to understand. It's very important to TAKE THE NOTES. Write down whatever he puts on the board. Don't need to read the textbook, but you better buy it for the hws (NOT COLLECTED) and in-class practices. Strongly recommended.
I really enjoyed this class. He is clear on his lecture and will go over problems in class if you don't get something. Very thorough on what you need to learn for the exams. Will help students as much as possible! I really recommend this class to anyone!! Such a great professor!
Mr. B is an absolute genius. He takes his lectures slow, and knows what students get confused on and takes those parts slower. It's easy to understand the topics and learn; but, the tests are difficult. He doesn't give easy tests because he doesn't want to "insult your intelligence". As long as you take good notes and do at least 1/2 hw you'll pass
He is a math genius. Very clear on lecture. Homeworks are not collected. Quizes once a week which are based on the homework assignments. Write down all the notes on the board and study, you'll be fine. I passed with an A...
Tough but solid teacher. VERY proof happy. Generally clear with expectations, which are very high.
Probably the best math teacher I've had to date. Very clear in his explanations and organized. His is very hard though. So be prepared to study.
Very hard. I've taken him before, and he was great. However, this semester he was less so. While still overall a top quality professor, he's clearly stressed this semester & it seems to affect his teaching, attitude, and ability to prepare students for the very high level he's writing tests to.
Mr. B is the best math teacher I have ever had. He expects you to work hard, but if you do he'll work hard to help you succeed. Also, he has lollipops at his office hours.
Easily the best math teacher I've ever had. He's clear with his standards: he wants you to know everything to the depth he can teach it, and that's pretty deep. I learned more earning a B in this class than I did earning an A in any others. Unfortunately, the Diffy Qs textbook is rubbish. He needs to write one; it'd sell.
the class is easy. just do all the homework and study hard for the test and quiz. i am pretty sure everyone will get an A or at least a B. Mr. B makes everything straight forwards and extremely easly to understand.
Goes step by step when lecturing. Does not make you feel hesitant or scared to ask questions. Quizzes are based on hw and hw problems discussed in class. Hard grader, but fair so don't miss the little things!
Hes a great teacher But hes definitely not easy when it comes to his tests. You really have to understand all of calculus and its concepts to pass this class. You wont pass this class through memorizing how to do problems. If you have troubles with the work he is happy to help you.
There is no professor like this one. Months after my transfer, this professor has single-handedly influenced my decision to implement math in my major, and even minor in it. Perfect explanations of every concept, and won't be afraid to test you on it. This guy just makes math cool.
To be honest, it's IMPOSSIBLE to find any other profs that could be better than Mr.B. This prof just like a walking solution manual because he could answer any kind of math question. Just do your hw, pay attention on his lecture, and be careful on the exam. You will pass his class with an A for sure.
Best math teacher ever! doesnt collect hw, pulls quiz questions from hw and tests are passable as long as you study and work hard!
took both 401 and 402 with mr. breitenbach.. he's an amazing professor. really knowledgeable and patient with students. he can pretty much answer all the math questions you have. recommended.
this prof rambles on about stuff and he doesn't relate them to one another. Terrible teacher, indeed. don't take him!
I have taken pretty much every class with this professor, and I am convinced that he's one of the best teachers around. Very laid back, approachable, helpful, patient, and overall amazing. If you are serious about math, I cannot recommend him enough. Easily the best professor I've had, and probably the best I ever will have.
He is a very knowledgeable teacher and he knows what he is doing. However, Breitenbach is a VERY difficult teacher when it comes to actually getting a grade. The entire grade is based off of the tests, which were always very difficult. I dropped the class and retook it to get an A; learned a lot with B. but one mistake on a test can cost you big.
I took multivariable calculus as a high school senior and I was extremely lucky to pick this professor. During his lectures, he would prove as many theorems as possible since that is how math is supposed to be taught, not teaching to memorize some formulas (that would be an insult to mathematics, of course). I also find him humorous many times.
Of all of the college professors I've ever had (and it's been more than I'm proud to admit), Professor Breitenbach is in the top 3. He's intelligent, fun, personable, an excellent teacher, great at explaining, entertains all questions...A++!
Undoubtedly a great professor. He knows his stuff, answers questions clearly and makes sure you undersand the material. Also, doesn't hurt that he's good-looking and has great sense of humor. However, not an easy class you can slide by and pass without knowing the material, but you will learn a lot.
This teacher is fing great. He knows so much about calculus it's ridiculous. I didn't even pass his class (I dropped) so you know my opinion is not biased. He tries to make sure everyone understands a concept before moving on,and is open to new ideas(some students would have better ways of solving probs).Bottom line, this class is hard but hes fair.
Professor Breitenbach is extremely heful and will try and assist you in any way he can. He was a number theorist, so he is heavy on conceptual teaching. I have taken calculus 2 and am in calculus 3 with professor Breitenbach, and all I can say is that I think I learned as much with a C in calc 2 as I did with an A in calc 1.
Great teacher! I learned a lot.
He's very fair in grading. Docks off points for minor things on tests. He's very intelligent, make sure to be up to his pace to achieve a good grade. I dropped because I wasn't following his lectures but over all, he's a good teacher, and hard. :)
Excellent professor, knows his mathematics. Very helpful. Excellent lecturer. Great office hours. Does not give any leeway or slack. Does not believe in extra credit (which makes sense). He is very good at teaching math. But he does not tolerate idiots. Getting a B or C in his class is comparable to getting an A or A+ in someone else's class.
A great teacher who really knows his subject, is very patient and clear in his lectures. His entire goal is that you learn the material. Hard to imagine a better, more professional teacher. However, he is uncompromising when it comes to grading. You must do the work to succeed. No extra credit.
He goes to fast and it is difficult to ask a question in class without feeling stupid.
His grading is ridiculous-no curve. He will mark you 0 on a problem even if you did work. He also likes mixing the last midterm with the final which screwed everyone in my class (chapter 11 hardest)-no A in the class. Take higher math in other campus. I have a friend who had C midterms but got a B than me who had B in midterms but got a C. Avoid!!
Just like most of the comments here said, he is probably the best math professor in CRC. You will learn a lot from his class but your GPA will go down for sure. I have taken his class with Ochem II and ENGWR 302 and I got As on both but C on his. I spent more time in his class than the other. The person before me says it all about his classes.
This guy is very good at teaching the material but is very terrible when it comes to grading if you're Math major then he is for you but if you're engineering or Bio don't take him you'll regret it yeah your learn something learn that you'll get a C- have fun trying to transfer with that
I took him for Calc I and II. I He's a great teacher and extremely helpful! Don't be scared to go to his office hours. I felt his grading was very fair on exams and had no problems getting an A. I'm also an engineering major, so don't let other reviews deter you. Calculus is hard, so be sure to put in a lot of extra study time.
lets be honest this professor is one of the hardest professors at crc. Even though he is smart and clear, he gives some of the hardest exams. if you can take it with some one else...
His class is very frustrating and his teaching style makes it difficult to do well. Honestly if you value your sanity and your GPA take a different instructor.
Easily the best math teacher I've ever had. He explains concepts clearly and does a variety of examples during lecture. However, he grades ruthlessly. Take your time to do the homework right and then you can use it as a study guide for quizzes, which are directly from the homework. Review again for exams. Only reason not to take him is GPA.
Prof. B is very proud of his native American heritage and his stories about his tribal ancestry and overcoming discrimination were truly inspiring. I had to drop the class but great story for prof B.
He is a great professor. Very clear and concise and tells you what he expects. If you don't do the homework you will be in trouble. The quizzes and exams are all based on homework questions. He is really fair and even drops quiz scores. Exams are very hard if you don't do homework. He's very funny and strangely calm haha. I recommend him.
Prof. Brieters is a great math teacher and his credentials as a native American hero are indisputable. He is a totally amazing role model for native Americans and personally inspiring. His every action leads by example and demonstrates how imagination and vision can be used to obtain the American dream. Awesome man, awesome vision.
Absolutely the worst teacher I have taken for any math class. His lectures are incomprehensible and he belittles you if you dare to ask a question. horrible instructor!
Great teacher, nothing more to say
Awesome professor. He is fair and direct. He is hard though. 4 exams and a final and a host of quizzes (but he drops the lowest quizzes). Homework is not collected (and not graded) but always do it as it's the basis for the tests. Tests are moderately hard, but if you don't show and do the homework NO CHANCE in passing.
Good at lecturing. Hard grader in Math. Assign H.Work, but not grade. Not doing H.work, you will get F grade. Bad thing is: Test #4 and Final will be on the same Final day..it is terrible. Finally, if you Even get up over all grade with 88% (I got). You only get B. Terrible in reviewing materials for Test. Test is not too hard, but All from Hwork
It is a mistake to take a class from him because his exams are hard and he does not explain the concepts. I took his class after reading his reviews but now I think he wrote most of them himself.
Not an easy grader. If not keeping up in class, will fail.
Hard grader. Took both his 401 and 410 class. He does not have quizzes in 410. That means your grade is based on 3 exams and the final. Expect proofs on all exams. Very abstract class. Be prepared to go to office hours often if you want to understand it all. In fact, consider office hours mandatory if you want an A (or even a B). Check your proofs.
Too many proofs and his teaching style is confusing. It seems like you need to no the material before taking the class to be successful. Definitely avoid.
Do not take this instructor if you want to well in differential equations. He does not collect homework and yet you are supposed to do the homework anyway, which does make sense. Hi lectures are not clear and his exams are insanely hard and he takes points off for any small error. I would suggest avoid this professor.
One of the best teachers ever, but also one of the hardest graders. Especially for DE. The problems are long enough that it's difficult not to make mistakes. I made a small algebraic mistake that changed the problem enough to make me lose 7 points (100 pt tests). So double check ALL your work. Don't get cocky and turn it in early. Do HW too.
The way he teaches makes it difficult to understand concepts and the tests are crazy hard. I wish there was a better option then Breitenbach for Calc. 3
Really hard teacher and so many proofs! Was not used to doing proofs and he takes points off for minor mistakes. It is very difficult to succeed in the class even if you put in a ton of time.
You basically have to teach yourself linear algebra. While he does such at teaching the worst part of the class is his bad attitude.
Over the river and through the woods to Breitenbach's class we go, he gives you the F cause you flunking his tests and UC says no.... oh...
This professor is so clear, concise, and his knowledge of mathematics is impeccable. His doesn't test how well you know how to do a problem. His exams test how well you have mastered a concept. Overall the best math professor I have ever had. I took both calc one, and calc two with him and passed with a B the first try.
He has a bad attitude and at times was rude or disrespectful to students. Although he thinks he is a great teacher there is a reason why his classes are always open.
All the students in the class don't like him. I only took Breitenbach because all of the better teachers had waiting lists and I would not get in. I should have just waited a semester!
MATH 400,401,402,410. All classes, I got an A. How you ask? I did almost all of the practice problems he assigned (for every class, 4 hours of practice should follow). HIS TESTS ARE VERY FAIR IF YOU UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS! LA class was way hard tho imo, took more time then calc. By the way,his knowledge of math ISS impeccable.
He's not the best teacher and kinda rude when you ask questions. I usually get A's in math but often his lectures are confusing and then you can't ask questions.
Worked really hard but still could not make it in his class. Best advice is to avoid.
I just feel like his teaching does not prepare you for his tests. You try as hard as you can, but still don't pass. If he's going to make his tests that hard he needs to teach calculus better so that we are prepared.
Even if you come to every class, do every assignment in full, go to office hours and study 8+ hours for every exam (all of which I did) you still might not pass (which I didn't). I got a D. Retook the class at sac state and got a 93%. Breightenbach wants you to know the material as well as he does. If you aren't a math major you will struggle.
His notes on the board are very disorganized. He underlines everything, and writes everything in all capitals letter, so it's very hard to tell what's important and what's not. He has no clear syllabus for the class, just states that there will be a couple exams and quizzes (no duh). He is also a very difficult grader. Would not recommend him.
His lectures are very unorganized and confusing and then he gives hard exams. Nothing more to say but I would definitely not take this professor again.
He lectures are difficult to comprehend and he is not helpful at all. Really bad professor!
He's the BEST. All who say otherwise are plain lazy. You will have to learn to pass his exams and MASTER the material to get a perfect score. Go to class, focus on the lecture,do your homework, study for the tests that are BASED on the homework and you'll be fine. His expectations are simple and straightforward and he's there to help.
Excellent teacher. I have no other words to describe him, and he's a major hottie;)
Lots of proofs but poor instruction and no help after class.
Overall he is not a good instructor. Does not care about student success.
Really tough class and I have difficulty understanding his lectures. It also was difficult to ask questions. Keep in mind that a lot of students dropped and only a few are doing well.
I had Mr B for Diff Eq and liked him so much I took him again for Linear Algebra. He teaches tough concepts so of course his class is going to be harder than algebra but he is very good at explaining the topics and he is more than willing to help. He does expect you to understand the concepts but his tests are just like the homework.
He's a really bad teacher. I have always done well in math in the past but he expects that you already know concepts or you can just learn linear algebra on your own. When I tried to ask questions his answers were not helpful or he makes you feel stupid for asking.
He's a very hard teacher and seems like you never know what to study to prepare for the tests. I wish there was some review. He is also a brutal grader and not very good at teaching calculus.
I should've dropped him when I had the chance. Some people do like this professor, but I absolutely hated him. Lectures were long and difficult to follow. Unless if you've had him before, I'd recommend avoiding at all costs.
Seems very against technology in math, which is something that makes math easier to understand (I have never seen him use a graphing calc. or projector). He also only gives out grades once a semester (you have to ask him in person if you want update). He is helpful, and is open for questions.I kind of feel bad for him, he seems lonely, but he's awesom
He comes across as unfriendly and elitest and his lectures are boring to have to sit through. Also his tests are hard and he does not help you to prepare for the exams. I think he is just not a good teacher for calculus and his style makes you lose interest.
I should have listened to everyone who told me not to take Breitenbach. Now I have to take the class over again. Do yourself a favor and don't waste a semester in his class. He sucks at teaching and his grading is unreasonable.
Prof. B made calc III fun and challenging. He has a very dry sense of humor but he is a hilarious guy. He takes a lot of test questions from homework and notes. If he gives a challenging problem, it's likely something he made a point to talk about in class. Taking again for linear algebra next semester
I could not understand the way he teaches and his exams are so hard.
Breitenbach is a great professor. He ensures that you will leave his class knowing the material. If you work on the homework&get it done &ask questions when you do not understand you will do just fine in the class. Study for the exams. I have taken him twice for Calc 1 (got a D the first time, then an A the 2nd) & then I took him again for Calc 3.
I can't understand what he is talking about and I really don't like his class. His test are also way too hard!
He is a nice person but not a good teacher. He does not explain things in a way that is clear and easy to follow so it very difficult to learn linear algebra in his class. Also the way he tests makes it difficult to be successful.
He expects you to know how to do proofs but never teaches you how to do proofs. There are long lectures but he does not like to answer questions or explain it when you don't understand.
Great guy, very helpful in office hours. class time is mostly used to prove and explain big ideas followed by concrete examples. He's very good about pointing out common student errors while lecturing. He is forgiving of minor errors but marks off big points for conceptual errors. Linear is concept heavy so know your stuff before the quiz/test.
Professor B. is a very patient instructor who teaches in a very linear fashion as opposed to others who are all over the place. This was my first math class with him and I have never looked back, I refuse to take any other professor than Professor B. for math. Expect tons and tons of homework, but if you understand the concepts, you will do fine.
DE is already a hard class, but Mr. B is awesome at clarifying concepts and answering student questions. Anybody who says he doesn't is just not doing their part as a student, maybe they don't even do their homework. True, there is no such thing as an easy A in his courses because they are a lot of hard work. But an A in his class is an A anywhere!
He's a really hard teacher and lectures are difficult to follow. You have to make his class your life and even then it is very difficult to pass.
I worked very hard in the class but still not doing well. Lectures are long and difficult to understand and he does not engage you in the discussion. Also very inflexible when it comes to grading.
Prof. B is an awesome native American just like Elizabeth Warren. He can teach you how to exploit the system to gain an advantage and be successful.
His class was very tough. You can't get away with doing 99% of the homework. You must do all of it and really study for everything; however, his lectures were the best I have ever heard/seen. I would recommend him for a studious student and for someone who really wants to learn math. I like a professor who challenges me and teaches me everything.
Prof B is THE professor I recommend for calc & beyond. He has 26 years of teaching experience and has a very consistent teaching style. I took him for calc 1 and it was official after the first lecture: I was going to take him for ALL my math at community college, and I did. The As are not just handed out, but are achievable! You will work for them
After attending 3 lectures, I now understand why a professor with standards in his/her students (my MATH400 professor was Roy Simpsons) is so important. Professor Breitenbach expects his students to master Calculusthat is, to be able to learn the concept&tricks to integrate with easeand I have no problem doing so w/ my MATH400 guidance&prep.
Breitenbach does not explain things well which makes it really hard to understand the material. Very difficult to keep and do well in his class.
This is a hard class regardless, but he made it as clear as it can possibly be. His lectures make a lot of sense. As long as you go to class and do the optional homework, you will pass, however this class is so hard you might have to do above that to get an A.
Breitenbach is not the best teacher. He makes the class so boring and does not explain things in a way that is easy to understand. I suggest a different professor.
He is not the worst teacher but not the best either. He does make the class very difficult even if you are good at math. If you value your GPA then you may want to try another professor.
Breitenbach is rude and does not teach. He is also very hard and makes it difficult to pass.
Heads up: Tests are worth 90% of your grade and quizzes are worth 10%. If you do not have good test/quiz taking skills, I'd recommend this class so you could strengthen them. Mr. Breitenbach's lectures are very organized and clear. When you have a question, he will answer it in the most simplest way so you can understand. He is also quite funny. ;)
Here's my take on how to earn an A: 1) Do the homework he assigns after each lecture before the next lecture. 2) Watch someone else lecture about a topic you are not sure about. I recommend PatrickJMT on YouTube. 3) Before a quiz every Monday, choose 5-10 good problems across the previous week's homework and do them. 4) Do 20-30 before a test.
Additionally, you have to put in the effort in this class right off the bat. It's no easy walk-through-the-park class where you can just sit back and do the minimal work and pass. You have to try. It won't be easy, as it shouldn't be, but if you can balance your schedule and give yourself enough time (3 hrs/day) for this class, you will get an A.
Here are some tips 1) Put your phone on silent and don't make it obvious that you are using it when he is lecturing. 2) Use the Slader website and search the textbook he uses up. There are solution steps on the site written by other students/professor. This is very useful for doing homework. 3) Don't be late to class if u can help it.
Lastly, Breitenbach if your must-take math professor at CRC.
He does not give good grades even when your work is complete. He seems he is moody.
I took this guy for all of my Math classes. I'm at Sac State right now, and I can easily say he's the best professor I've taken by far. For those of you complaining, you're either lazy, or you shouldn't be going into a math related field. It's not for you.
He makes the class so hard to understand as if all the students math majors. Only take as a last resort- you will spend all of your time studying for his class and still get a bad grade.
He is the best professor I had
I like to studying in his class. It's seem to be very interesting for me. Even he teaches a little heavy, but I like the way to study it. It's seem I have to do the best for my knowledgeable.
Breitenbach is the worst professor ever. He does not teach but just does proofs that you can't understand and the tests are so hard!
We have 4 exams then the final, which is easy to study for after going through the toughest unit at the end of the semester. Fair exams. Write your q's on the board & go to office hours if you don't understand something. Breitenbach is a great professor who grades fairly and gives fair exams.
Horrible grader on tests. Marks you off if he didn't like the route you took to get the answer, even though the steps were correct. He doesn't prepare you for exams. His lecture is all theorems with barely any examples. So many proofs. His final is comprehensive and he doesn't tell you what to not worry about and just to study everything.
Professor Breitenbach gives clear lectures. He has high expectations only because he wants students to have a solid understanding (and because math is not a forgiving subject.!) . He learned students' first names, which made me feel like more than just a number. It is inspiring to be in lecture observing his passion for math. A real gem!
Calculus was invented to be applied to the physical sciences and mathematical analysis. Learning the material in breitenbach's class will set anyone up for success (meaning you get an A or a B, no less). I'm taking physics right now and I can easily understand the calculus behind problems because of the concepts Ronald forced me to practice.
Professor Breitenbach is a kind person. For me, his teaching method is really hard to understand, although I tried to focus 200% work in his class, and it didn't work. He crammed his heavy lectures in every class and went over those too fast. IMO, sitting in his class for 2.5h is useless. I mainly studied online and asked my friends for help:(
Unless you have a good understanding of the subject, id recommend taking a different professor. He does a decent job explaining the topics, but is a very tough grader. Theres a quiz a week, 4 exams, and a final. He doesnt curve and will often be stingy with partial credit. This class will require more than the average study time for a calc class.
He is alright. But ruined my chances of becoming a math major. Crams the heaviest lectures and goes too fast. Teaching style is old school but I was used to handouts so it did not go too well.
His class is hard. Tests are hard and long (10 problems) usually in 1h15m, Some people said that he wants us to get succesfull, thats also true. I would agree that if I just took only his class in this semester. Fortunately that my other classes were not as hard as his ( I would be dead if they were)
Awesome lecturer, funny, and a great guy to be around. Do not misconstrue the subjects to not be laborious. His tests are not what you call easy, but FAIR. Attention to detail is important, especially linear to get all your points. There's a lot you can learn from Breitenbach. Just put in the time and effort, and the class will be easy.
He's a tough grader. You can set a problem up nearly correctly but say you messed up on 1 small component and the rest of the problem will be graded with a 0. Doing outstanding in previous math classes WILL NOT guarantee you a shot at a passing grade. If you value your gpa or are not a math major, this class will detract from your other classes.
Breitenbach is an experienced teacher who knows what to give to his students to learn calculus. He grades fairly, rather easily actually, on quizzes and exams. You don't have to get the correct answer to get high marks, as long as you know the correct steps to the answer. Even if you make a mistake, you will get a 9/10. Do hmwk if you need to.
Breitenbach is an excellent professor, especially if you take several different courses taught by him. Over time, you become really familiar with his teaching and grading style, and he's very effective with his lectures. Make no mistake, though. You will have to work a lot to get a good grade, as you should for a five-unit course.
He is a good professor
Good professor ever
Solid professor. He has good, entertaining lectures and the material isn't ridiculously hard but his grading is insanely tough (no curving btw). The quizzes are annoying because you don't know exactly what they will be on and the tests are just brutal. Homework isn't graded either. You'll have to study a LOT to do well in his class.
I've had Breitenbach for Math 401, 402, 410, 420, and an honors course. He is very knowledgeable, caring, and approachable. You get one quiz every week that comes directly from the homework and the tests rarely ever have any curveballs. He sometimes nitpicks with grading, but only when necessary. Your success in his classes depends largely on you.
The Class is Easy compared to my upper division electrical engineering classes. Exam problems are straight from the homework. Lectures are clear and he's very helpful during office ours. Those who think this class is hard are just lazy or lack the motivation to study.
Amazing professor! But super hard class! lol pay attention during lecture and best part? NO HOMEWORK!!
Prof B has been my favorite math professor thus far at CRC. He's very clear when it comes to grading and explaining hard to visualize concepts eg) spherical coordinates and flux. The exams resemble the homework and the examples done in class. There are 4 unit exams each worth 15%, a final exam worth 30%, and weekly quizzes worth 10%. Good luck!
Took him for Calc 2 and now Calc 3. He's been teaching for 30+ years and it shows with his explanations. You might be able to get away with less at SCC or ARC, or you can take Breitenbach and really learn the concepts. Once you learn his teaching style you can take him for all your upper level math.
I heard he was an amazing teacher but when I took him he was okay. He obviously has his favorite students (the smart ones), and he is a TOUGH grader, as in no partial credit. The only "partial credit" you get is if you do it right but you screw it up, then he'll take points off. Some people like him but he wasn't for me.
Will not explain math clearly or define steps to solving a problem, will just throw examples at you and expect you to learn from them without much explanation. Gives a quiz once a week on the hardest material from hw. Any mistake on a quiz or exam is a massive point reduction gives partial credit. Doesnt want you to pass, no curve, no hw credit
I've taken him for 402, 410, and 420. He is without a doubt one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He's just an absolutely phenomenal teacher. The classes are hard, but he is extremely fair in the grading, and he will always help you if you need it. After a while you'll be able to near-perfectly predict the points you'll get. Man's a king.
He expects mastery of calculus 1, and you need to know your stuff. If you don't have the work ethic to study a lot you will struggle in the class. He provides quizzes every week and its based on ungraded homework he expects you to do. If you do not do the homework you will have a hard time. Don't take his class if you won't treat it like a job.
very good at explaining the concepts of calculus and grades fairly with partial credit. Quizzes most weeks and tests make up the majority of the grade, hmwk is not graded but important for the tests . Great teacher, just expect to do a lot of work.
I highly recommend this professor! You can tell that he wants his students to understand the information and is very involved. He knows his stuff and explains with a lot of detail. He doesnt grade homework but he will answer any questions you have and go over the problem. I will be taking his Math 402 class next sem!
Breitenbach is a pretty great teacher; he explains concepts well and will help students with most problems. But, his class is really hard. There are at least two quizzes every week, homework is long and not graded, his tests are really difficult. Also, he uses proctorio which is the worst piece of software I have ever encountered.
I thought he was an awful teacher. He makes it difficult to pass the class and does not care about students. Take his class and you will really mess up your GPA.
I took him pre-covid. Extremely harsh grader and goes way too fast during lectures. I found myself spending all my energy keeping up on writing notes and very little actually understanding what he said. He skips a lot of steps too; assumes you recall 100% of old knowledge (including obscure algebra strats/rules). Maybe good for math majors tho?
He's knowledgeable in his field. If you're stuck, he will follow and help you understand the problem completely. Give a bunch of time for exams and quizzes, I never felt stress in this class and would love to take his class again. Plus, he's always willing to spend time discussing your issue.
I took his class in person and virtually for Math 401, 402, and 420. His class is extremely straightforward. He teaches well and always answers questions clearly. If you study the homework thoroughly, you will know how to do the weekly quizzes and the midterms. It is hard because math is hard. He doesn't pull his punches, but never tricks you.
An AMAZING professor. I took 401, 402, 410, and 420 with him and now I'm a Mathematics Major at Georgia Tech. The way he taught has fully prepared me for the vigor at this university. His exams are straightforward slightly changed problems from the book which limits the probability for curveballs which is great. His office hours are so helpful too
I took Breitenbach for 2 semesters of math. The classes were challenging but if you really put in the work, you will succeed. 60% of your grade is exams, 30% is final, 10% is daily quizzes on previous homework. He always goes over homework questions before so it's easier to prepare.
Too much intense grading and the partial credit he claims he gives is really not helpful when he constantly nitpicks every part of your work - you could have a correct proof of statement and he can dock you more than half of its points because of his own preference.
Math is dificult. Everything quizes and tests on, he has done the identical proof/problem in-class. The thing is he seems to cover, encompass, and tie together everything, so you really do need to know and do it all to pass. Iff you give his class the time it commands, you're golden. He is the quintessential Math prof. for math majors.
Professor B is the most intelligent person on earth. He makes the materials become easy to understand. He is very nice and willing to answer all of your questions about Math if there is time. He is the best Math Professor I have ever had.
He is an awesome Professor. His lectures are so interesting and engaging, I could spend hours watching them.
A few things: - His rating is disingenuous; poor ratings have been reviewed and appear to be bot-manipulated judging by #s. Don't trust. - Intelligent and caring, but a poor maths professor to my previous. Proofs have poor notation/emphasis on trivial areas. - Low effort instruction; no material is curated. All material is straight from textbook.
LA is a really hard subject and you need to be airtight in your understanding for any of the exams. Prof B's class is very proof heavy, and he only grades exams so it's pretty challenging. He's not the most forgiving grader either but makes up for it by centering the class around making sure you get it all.
I like this professor. Math is not easy for me, but he made it very clear and I got an A
Breaks down difficult concepts in an easy way to understand. Definitely a super hard class but as long as you watch lectures, complete most of the ungraded homework, and study for tests, you should be fine. Grade is based on 4 exams (15% per exam) and the final (40%). Tests are mostly based off of lecture sample problems, with some from homework.
His class is entertaining, but the only things you are graded by are the tests and the final. As long as you do the homework and understand the proofs he goes over, you should be fine, but expect to study.
Taught through vids which were avg 1 hr, but w note taking 2 hrs. hw optional. Took me several days to do each the vid + txtbk hw. More hw than rodrigues bc mr. b has vid lect. Each exam 15%, final is 60% of grade. Exams straightforward, USE PAST EXAMS TO STUDY (ask him). rodrigues more lenient in grading than mr. b but mr b exams slightly easier.
