Dr. Brown is awesome! He is one of the best in the department. He cares about students and he is really interested in what students think. He also challenges you to think about your position on issues and how best to articulate those positions.
hes great! anyone who has to take politcal science should try to get him! hes so nice and very helpful
Dr. Brown is an excellent teacher. At times he may be a bit confusing to understand, but overall is great. The course is well structured and organized.
By far, the EASIEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN..(high school included). This guy should consider teaching at the 4th grade level..but hey its all good for me, I got my A and I'm sure u will too if u have a pulse

On of the easiet classes I've ever had. His lectures can be all over the place, but his assignments and exams are junior-high easy. Need some easy credits for the semester? Take this w/him.
WOW!! OKAY. THIS CLASS WAS EASIER THAN LEARNING HOW TO SHARE IN KINDERGARTEN. IF U COME TO CLASS YOU'RE ALMOST GUARANTEED AN "A". YOU DO HAVE ASSIGNMENTS BUT THEY ARE IN NO WAY A BURDEN! TAKE THIS CLASS AND ENJOY. AND THANK DR.BROWN FOR NOT MAKING THIS AS STRESSFUL AS HE COULD.
Dr. Brown is great, there are a lot of people saying he is easy, and the class IS easy, but what is great about Brown is that he gets you involved, he cares about the students and their opinions and he is open to many ideas...he will never shut you down.
dr. brown is absolutely amazing! i never had an interest in poli sci, but he gets u involved each and everyday. he learns every student's name and major - he really cares about his class. we didn't have exams, but had multiple papers to turn in. very easy to get an A...u learn a lot!
He is absolutely easy and so are his assigments and exams, no matter what u write but if u turn them in on time u will surely get at least 4/5. But at times he is really confusing and his accent gets in the way of understanding his lectures but for that he makes up in his exams!
He is an amazing teacher
Very easy. sometimes he is hard to understand but you really don't need to understand to pass the class. Exams are take home, so if you don't pass, you don't know how to make up multiple choice q's:) A lot of discussion, but very enjoyable
Fascinating discussions. Made all kinds of new friends due to how he runs the class. Great speakers. Wants you to think analytically and not regurtitate facts. Open if your opinion differs. Lots of writing and reading involved. Class attendance is a must. There are assignments almost every day.
His class is excellent. He encourage students to interact and think critical about political issues. The readings are things you don't want to resale but keep on your book self.
Dr. Brown was the best professor I have had in 9 semesters as far as accepting and encouraging the expression of opinions that differ from his own.
This class was -hands down- the easiest class I will ever take in college! He takes the subject out from the textbook and applies it in the "real world". ;) He looks like bill cosby, which makes the class more enjoyable! :D
Very Easy. You're good if you attend the class every now and then. Tests are take home so no need to worry about studying. Go to the Discussion part of the class and your good.
EASIEST A I HAVE EVER GOTTEN!! TAKKKKKE HIM if you dont care for the subject and want a big fat A =)
Best professor, he is so kind and caring and easy to love. The class is easy if you do your work and keep up. Exams are take home so it's nice.
Best Teacher Ever! I Made Many Friends In This Class Cause He Always Had Us Walking Around Talking To One Another. I Was Going Though Some Situations At Home And He Was Very Understanding!! He Allowed Me To Turn In Assignments Whenever It Was "Convinient" For Me. His Class Was Interesting And Easy As Long As You Showed Up At LEAST Every Other Week
Loved this class! We have group discussions once a week and you get to meet lots of cool people as a result. No homework at all. Exams were open book & open note. He also lets you substitute and haggle any extra work you may do for exam grades. Very sweet & understanding. Hes also hilarious, which made class even more entertaining.
He is a nice teacher. I was intrested in the subject before taking it. His class is interesting and helps you see why religion is so important to some people, and yes religion does play an important part in politics.
He jumps around a lot and has a hard time keeping the classes attention, in part because a lot of the people I talked to were not interested in political Science. Overall the class is easy, you get to work in groups and have open book open note exams, he tries to make class interesting with group work, you can tell he likes teaching.
really knows his stuff, funny but lectures are long and boring and you really cant understand him because of his accent. it was easy, 2 exams and optional final which replaces ur lowest grade, group work and extra credit. TAs are helpful too. I got an A cuz of the extra credit. hes a good prof. just make sure u contribute in ur group. ull be fine
Attend all of the classes because you are put into groups and are graded on the work you do as a group. He is hard to understand with his accent. His tests are open book so as long as you have at least skimmed the book you'll do well. 2 exams and an optional final exam to replace the lowest exam grade. Good amound of Extra Credit.
Dr. Brown is a great Professor. He is very considerate. You have to work in groups which is good because its less work for one person. Participate in class discussions because if he knows you try he will bump your grade up or give you more points. Do all the work and don't miss class. Open book exam and 1 self written and optional final.
I had an A the whole semester and because of the last final project my grade jumped down to a B. He's really hard to get in contact with.. Kind of hard to understand what he's saying. Passionate about government. I suppose the grading is fair. We only took three exams. There's a LOT of group work. A bit forgetful. Pretty lenient about everything
These people don't know what they are talking about. Obviously they did not understand that Dr. Brown wants his students to think, not just memorize useless facts just to forget them in 5 mins. He is a little difficult to understand, but if you ask him is really really nice and will take care of any problems you have.
Leon Phelps without the afro. He is a good man
Easy A. Show up, do the work, complete take home exams on time.
Ok person but was really hard to understand. He jumped around alot in his lecutres and has a stutter. He also repeats things alot. All group work and take home test.
I loved this class...This is a very easy A...Its like taking a trip back to high school...Just do the work and you'll be sure to get an A...I got a B and thats only because I did not apply myself, but its a real easy A..I love the way he teaches..He does have a stutter but its not to the point where u cant understand him...Take this class!!!!
Very good man. Difficult to understand at times but just really wants us to apply ourselves. Go to class, complete the assignments to the best of your ability and turn in tests on time, every point counts. I have a BRAND NEW livingDemocracy textbook n will sell for cheaper than bookstore. Email me at [email protected] bc u need it for the tests!!
He is a very good Teacher!!!! make sure you attend class everyday. i got an A+. you will barely use the textbook but it is helpful for the take home tests. You will love the group assignments. pick a good group because they will effect your grade. yes he does stutter but you will get used 2 it. he's very smart and inspired me 2 be a better student!
Dr. Brown is an awesome professor. His assignments can be somewhat confusing at times, but if you talk it out and change it a bit, he wont mind. He values the students ambition to learn. Lectures are interesting and group work is pretty useful. The SI also is a big help, so take advantage of that. Strict on due dates, but nothing to worry about.
Very great teacher. Not too understandable but easy A.
Cool and caring individual. Great professor.
Great professor
He is an awesome professor. Really wants to get you involved in the material and values each opinion. If you don't understand something, just ask him. He will go out of his way to explain it over and in a different way so you fully get the assignment. I would recommend him to anyone majoring in Poli Sci.
awsome professor, super easy
He is a wonderful teacher. He grades easy, the book will be used, but he goes over everything in class. We only have 2 test, and one is a take home test. A few projects but they were small.
His a great easy teacher... tries his best to get you the A and his extremely nice... for the test they are a take home, also u can go to the SI and get a 100... only 1 midterm (no final if u get an A in Katrina project and the midterm)... easy class I would take it over and over :P
Change your schedule around so you can fit Prof. Brown in it. Take home midterm, take home final, 1 page essays... If you go to SI they will give you all the answers to the exams
He is an easy professor and very enthusiastic about what he teaches but last semester he taught it with someone else so it was very disorganized and the lectures were confusing. He is really easy grader tho and all the test were take home. the final was 30 points extra credit!
Great Professor, and very helpful
Very nice professor, you will learn a lot from him but make sure you attend every class because you will have to do group discussion. An Easy A!!
If you have to take this class make sure it is with this prof. Online exams and qiuzes with no timer and unlimited attempts. However. you need attend every single class to turn in small assignments. Easy A, they papers are easy no research or anything necessary there is also extra sessions that give you guidelines to the paper.
I love Dr. Brown, he's very intellegent and extremely nice. He's not hard, he just wants students to understand and put their thoughts on paper. I recommend him. I have learned a great deal from him when I had no interest in the subject matter.
He was a nice guy, but he rambles a lot.
I recommend him 100%. He will help you out with anything; if you just try, he will always be there for help and even boosts in grades at times. He really likes when students ask questions and discuss the topics. You will learn a lot in this class, especially during an election year. I'm taking his African Am. Politics class in Fall 2013.
Highly recommend taking P S 1010 with professor Ronald Brown, he's very helpful & nice. All quizzes and exams were online (true/false & multiple choice). 1 quiz, 3 exams, a final exam & final paper. The quiz & exams were curved. 2 classes a week, a lecture & a discussion class (short assignments are due). Attendance was mandatory in both classes.
Minimal attention is required. Great professor though.
Advocates well for his beliefs
Easy grader. Let's you turn in essays beforehand. He proofreads and lets you know what you need to fix. Good teacher. Easy A. Class can get boring. You have a lot to read.
He's one of the nicest professors I've had. Tests are take home and he's always available to help. Intelligent guy and interesting reading assignments. Lots of group work.
Amazing professor. Really helps students understand the material to make sure that everyone does well. The exams are all online and you can take them more than once. Very nice!
Prof Brown is very unclear in lectures and in directions. However, if this class is just a gen ed you need to complete, take him. You won't learn a single thing all semester but exams are online and do not block out your browser. He is very easy, hard not to get an A.
He is very good professor. Sometimes he is not clear but if you have any questions he has no problem with answering them. He is pretty easy as long as you go to class and complete all of his assignment. I would recommend him.
Great teacher, very helpful. Great TA's. Exams were online with 2 attempts, in class assignments thats how he took attendance. 4 exams, 3 midterms 1 final. 1 final paper. Some in class assignments and some take home homework which were pretty simple. Overall I would definitely recommend.
Seemingly nice man, but very confusing and hard to follow. Assigns way too many readings. Gives conceptual map exams that make no sense. Can be condescending at times. If your brain doesn't work like his, you won't do well. Also very disorganized and rarely answers emails. I worked hard and deserved a higher grade and respect from the man.
I took Brown's class because of his great RMP rating. He is a nice man and cares but is very confusing. Required too many books and I spent hours a week reading for class. After reading and working hard all semester, I only earned a B. I felt I worked "too hard" and maybe that's what got me. He also neglects emails. I feel let down by Dr. Brown.
Don't take him. Hard to understand and you don't learn anything. A waste of my time and money.
Cool guy, but very lost in his own world. I didn't learn much, but did enjoy class. I never understood the conceptual map exams and didn't do well on them. I wish there had been less reading and more standard grading. One very long 15 page paper as well. My grade didn't reflect my efforts. Not hard to pass, but you will end up with a B or C.
Mr. Brown is a really nice teacher. If you ask for he does help you. However, the lectures are really boring and not very helpful. The class is really easy, all the exams were online and there are two attempts for it. If you want to learn take it with some other professor however if you want an easy A take it with him.
Class is an easy A. I had the hybrid class where it was majority online and we met only once every few weeks. Once a week there is an online discussion questions that basically just asks for your opinion. Online multiple-choice exams with two attempts each. Received an A but did not learn a thing. Take that how you want
All time Great
Very informational and well structured in a variety of topics relating to urban renewal and what makes inner cities rise and decline.
Dr. Brown is a very nice man. I took the hybrid version of this class so I only had to attend about 6 lectures which are important to go to because you get a lot of points from them. The exams were online and you only have 1 paper. Also, you will use the book for 3 blog posts and to study for the exams. Not too bad, but honestly didn't learn much.
Get ready to write! I wrote over 50 pages in blogs, essays, exams, etc. Prof Brown is kinda all over the place, if you feel lost dont worry. Show up, participate even if you havent done the reading. Just be present and you will get an A. He cold calls, asks for specifics in writing, guides you through all the essays and provides sources. Loved him!
Professor Brown is incredibly intelligent. He has his doctorate in Political Science and is published, so he has a wealth of information. His classes are lecture and conversation heavy, so make sure to do your reading so you know what to talk about. He is very very easy going and helps students if they need it. Highly recommend.
The class is an easy A. Barely studied and still passed. The class itself was a bit unorganized and a bit confusing at first of what was even going on but everything is self-teachable. The lectures are also kind of random, you'll know what I mean if you take the class. Overall, Prof Brown isn't bad but you'll have to adjust to his teaching style.
3 book reviews, a few class reflections, and a paper at the end. Not a tough grader and course material was pretty interesting. I would take him again.
Great teacher. You can tell he is passionate about the subject matter. Grades fairly and gives good feedback. If you're interested in learning about the history of Detroit I recommend taking his class. I really enjoyed it.
The class is unorganized/confusing but is still an easy A. The lectures are all over the place. 2 exams (mid term/Final) both online and no time limit/open notes and can work w groups. Textbook isnt completely needed but does teach a lot if you want to learn about politics/Gov. 4 essays, all not super long. TAs helped make everything clear and easy
Brown is a great man, he's so passionate it starts to rub off. He knows this is a gen ed for most of his students so he tries to make the subject relevant and interactive. all exams (only midterm and final) are online!! and he has like 4/5 papers but DONT WORRY they're like 2 pages each. His TA's help a lot! also, you can get by w/o the book
The best professor at Wayne State, I loved his class. I took PS 1010 and we only met about 6 times all semester, but for a 3-hour lecture. I would not take any other 3-hour lecture class other than for his. Open note and take-home exams, where most of the answers are either online or in the book. Great class for discussion and debate.
Because it was a hybrid class, mostly everything was done online in terms of assignments and quizzes. Gave great feedback and at times would pull me aside to praise my work. He truly cares about what he is teaching and tries to make it more currently related to American politics rather than just talking about documents. It could get boring at times
Easy class. Finished all the assignments for the semester the second week of class. You should not fail this class because you get chances of having good grades.
The sage assignments are easy and if you complete them early in the semester then that's extra workload off of you. you get two attempts and they are only 5 points. He gives us exams on canvas which aren't too bad, you get 2 attempts. Overall, this class is easy and an easy A.
There is no way anyone shouldn't pass, this class was so easy. You can finish all of the sage assignments in one sitting. His tests can be kind of lengthy, but you shouldn't fail and you get two attempts. One short essay too that due later in the semester. Didn't really have much work this ...10/10 would recommend.
Nearly all assignments done on sage, except one paper and three tests. Tests are easy, open note, with two attempts. Finished all sage assignments the first week, and only had to worry about tests and paper which were given on certain days, and were open the whole day. His expectations for the paper are very unclear, but not hard to get good grade.
Professor Brown is one of the best professors i've had at Wayne. He is super easy to understand and is not a tough grader. Love this guy!!
He makes Government interesting. Always tries to relate the content to current events. All the assignments and some tests are on Sage. One paper due later in the semester but he grades well. Excellent feedback and really cares about the content.
If you want to teach yourself and get confused about every assignment given, take this class. There are so few unclear assignments to complete due to the "update" the professor post for every assignment or chapter. The exam is in a week from now, and I am still confused about what to study that will help me in the exam.
I HATE his voice. He does 3 hour zoom meetings and his voice bores me to death. Class is unorganized, and all over the place. Assignments are unclear. Unclear grading. Takes FOREVER to grade but keeps giving assignments. 0/10. I hated this class so much
Prof Brown is a well informed on the material. He is always willing to elaborate and support you if you are struggling. He wants his students' to succeed and you can schedule one-on-one's, if you want. He assigns a lot of essays and papers.
We had 1 research paper and multiple HW papers throughout the semester. Prof tries to help everyone in the class. If you do not understand the class expectations, he responds to emails or gives an answer to the whole class. He does allow 1:1. Participate in the class, even if it is different from the rest, how his class thrives is through that.
Relates the class to current events which was interesting but his lectures were bit boring. For someone not interested in politics you might fall asleep in class. Few written papers. Video assignments come with the online book. I found the book to be quite biased and the professor told us about that but the professor didn't seem biased himself.
