He is a very boring man. I was once interested in U.S. History but he has managed to change that. Weekly readings for his class total close to 100 pages. If you fall behind on the readings you might as well drop the class.
He covers a lot of material, but not really his fault he's gotta get through it all. A lot of classes can get boring but he's enough of a smart ass to keep your attention. Only have to write 3 short papers and take the mid-term and final, not too hard.
Hes Awsome...forced to teach alot in alittle amount of time. 3 two page papers out of 5...He takes the best 3 out of 5. Tests are not too difficult if you come to class and listen to lectures...Alot of reading but i havnt read yet and i'm gettin a B
Frankum is hardcore about military history so if you like that, take him. his class is ok, he gives you all the answers you need to know for the tests, you just have to put effort in. he also let us use cheat sheets which helped.
Really nice guy. Readings everyday, but its interesting. 2 papers, midterm (which is take home)a final and sporadic quizzes. Easy class.
fairly tough grader when it comes to his essay tests, but an excellent professor. out of the four history professors i have had so far at millersville, frankum is the best. very thorough and helpful lectures.
Frankum is a great historian. knows his stuff completley. However, only take him if you are carrying 12 credits, because his workload, and grading style requires you to do a months worth of work in a week. Requires alot of effort for a C grade. caution!
He is a great teacher! This class was all about the Vietnam War and he gets so into it and enjoys teaching it. He's very helpful but expects you to do the readings. He's also very amusing.

Frankum's Vietnam class is great. He is awsome. You will read a lot and the tests are all essay. Great class.
i never should have been in this vietnam class, i had none of the prerequisites....but i got a b+. really awesome teacher - but normally is funny and all, has high expectations - but all teachers should from a group of college students. i recommend him
Very awesome class, would take it again in an instant. Does give a lot of info in a short period of time, I.E. Rev. War in one day.
READ READ READ READ READ! All you have to do for this class is read! READ YOUR LITTLE HEART OUT! He's so nice and very helpful...however, he is TOUGH....do your work....
his class is graded poorly. it's not that he's a hard teacher... it's just that if you don't know how to write a good history essay, you will do poorly.
Intelligent teacher for intelligent students. If you're smart take this class. If you can't write or don't feel like writing, do not take his classes.
Vietnam War. Expects a lot from students. Tough but fair. You will learn a lot. Do the readings, go to class, and you'll be fine. Highly recommended.
Couldn't have asked for a better professor. He demands a lot, but you know exactly what he wants. He is very dedicated to teaching and will give you your money's worth. His assignments and tests are very fair. He really did cover US History thoroughly from its founding to present(I was impressed).
Very nice man, if you hate essays do not take this class, if you don't mind them than this class is a breeze because there are no written tests, just quizzes. Enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Best history prof I have had at MU. Extremely good at teaching and keeping the lectures interesting. Expects a lot of work from his students but it is well worth it (the credits don't go to waste). No tests, just essay exams and online quizzes. Write intelligently, READ and you can't go wrong.
makes (almost) everything interesting. the only complaint i have is the difficulty level of what was supposed to be a 100 level class.
This teacher is good if u like people with good personalities, but dont teach, and feel learning is independent. He assigns an assload of writing which sucks. He is cocky and acts like since he is a college professor he is above teaching. Some like him cause he is fun... i guess. He assigns alot of reading but dont look for the idea or actually read to 'enrich' yourself or learn just look for details because thats all he cares about. If i could have chosen my teachers i would NOT have chosen him. switch out
He is very interesting and knowledgable. If you don't want to read and write a lot, don't take him. If you put in an effort, you will learn a lot. He does give a slightly right wing version of things, but liberals can still enjoy the class. Great class!

Frankum is great but the craft of history is weird. I want to be a teacher. Why do I have to learn about consnesus history. He is helpful outside of class and tries to make it interesting. I would take another class with him and plan to. There is a lot of reading but I like it.
acts cocky as anything, and doesn't like teaching much. is VERY conservative, and makes sure you know it. but regardless, he's still an interesting teacher. he tries to help everyone and make the subject matter more appealing and understandable. one more thing: he HATES ****ters and gives trick quizes on readings to find out who ****s.
He's not a bad guy. He can be tough, but it's for your good.
He lives, eats, and breaths history. Even on one leg he is one of the best professors at MU!
Very Fair prof, although he gives endless amounts of work. be ready to read straight through the text and have a quiz on every chapter...almost every class. but he rewards those who actually keep up with the class
Really nice guy out of class, but not as nice in the class room. Very knowledgeable and very interesting, but a lot of the work is up to the student. One warning wow him earlier and keep up on your reading or you will never make it. The class isn't hard unless you make it hard. Don't stress out about the amount of work just prepare yourself for
Frankum know's his stuff, but the amount of work in his class is endless. You will literally have a quiz EVERY single class, & ALOT of reading. Keep up on the reading & you'll do fine. Also...NEVER cheat in his class. He gives ID quizzes that show if you copy & paste anything. He is also kinda ignorant to talk to outside of class, but okay in class
Quiz every chapter but the chapters are only 12-15 pages and only one chapter per class. It is not alot but you cannot fall behind. Reasonable when you have a problem but do not BS him.. Also my advisor and has been very helpful with classes and internships. Take the class if you want to work, definitely will learn something.
Good prof who is somewhat willing to help if you go to him, great classes and keeps it entertaining w/ his personality. Quizes every chapter and ID quizes every unit. Tests are one essay question, but if you attend class and pay attention, it is easy to get a good grade.
You will learn a lot in this class but the work load is rediculous! Every two weeks you will have ID to do for a unit and he will assign 30-60 things to ID. If you write out half a page you will get a good grade. There are quizzes for every chapter too and you just choose the best answer. If you have class that mean more dont take him.
This class takes up alot of your time. You have a quiz every night and 6 Identification tests. His lectures just go on and on and it is hard to keep up. All quizzes are online and you have 2 essay tests. Other than that, he seems like an okay guy to talk to...
Not the easiest teacher. You have to work to earn your grade. But you will learn a lot. Pretty nice guy and very straight forward.
Frankum is a nice guy. However, his class is impossible. He's very unclear, rushes through material and is bland. He definately has favorites, and if you're not one...good luck. Expect to read a 40 page article and about 50 pages in the text for EACH CLASS. He gives tons of quizzes and expects you to read ALL OF IT. Basically, He's Impossible
Great Prof! I really enjoyed his class. Frankum knows a lot about history and made me get excited about the class. The only downside is the workload. You will have to read a chapter for each class and then take a quiz on it. You can't forget about this class. If you put effort into you will learn a lot. I would def. take another class with Frankum!
Ronald Frankum... if you take his class, you will be required to take an online quiz three days a week. He definitely has his favorites, and I agree that if you're not one of them, you need all the luck in the world.
This is a hard class but he does a good job of trying to make it interesting. There are quizzes for each chapter but they are not too bad if you read the book. The only favorites he has are the students who actually come to class - he told them what was going to be on the test. If you do not go to class, you will not pass the tests.
His class is tough but if you participate and do the readings you'll do fine. He likes details, so pay attention. If your going to argue a point make sre you can back it up because he will notice if you make a mistake. There is NO BSing with Dr. Frankum but he is a really nice, funny guy.
He is AMAZING! He really knows his stuff and wants you to do well. Yes, he probably chooses his favorites, but in my class at least, his favorites are the people who come to class, put tons of effort into their assignments, and study for his tests. If you aren't afraid to work hard, take him. If you are lazy and don't like to work, avoid him (and m
Do NOT take his Vietnam class. While it is a very entertaining class, it will DESTROY your GPA. No amount of studying or reading will allow you to pass his impossibly picky and general essay tests. Also, be prepared to fail the reading quizzes unless you have a photographic memory. Definitely not recommended.
Frankum is a really nice guy, his exams are tough, but only if you're a slacker and don't do the prefered readings. If you pay attention in class, and stay on top of your work than you should be able to do decent. If you're not a good writer, than it's quite difficult pass his class due to his picky essay exams. Good luck, listen, and read.
Listen. Read. Question the reading. Take notes as you read, because no matter how photographic you believe your memory to be, it will seem equivalent to that of the 1888 Kodak camera. Understand the concepts and make mind of the details. Challenge your own ideal of perfection and understand that true learning is not reflected by a grade. Think of e
Cont. from below: Think of each quiz and exam as a standard to improve upon. Take a chance on this or any of his classes and you will learn more than the subject matter. You will learn to love learning. Do not listen to the frenzied cries of those in the midst of a class of his?some of us have strange methods of expressing our love of learning :)
"Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." ~ Abigail Adams. Keep this as well as a positive attitude in mind as you march through any of Dr. Frankum's classes. You will certainly enjoy the class unless, of course, you are a fool.
Where to start with Frankum... This is the hardest class I have ever had. Hands down, if you don't do the reading you will not do well. Quiz every class online (easy, once you get the hang of it). The test are way too difficult. He will give you no hint what to study, just that everything will be on it. 3 essay test including the final make up 55%
A significant amount of reading is required to keep up with the class. Quizzes on the readings almost every class meeting. Very difficult course, but Dr. Frankum grades in a fair and consistent manner. My only complaint is the lack of disclosure for test material.
okay, so if you come into frankum's class with a bad attitude, you're gonna get a bad grade. but if you do the work and prove yourself as a student, he really loosens up a bit and gives you from freedom to slack off a little. frankum is a great professor and a good person to know. my only regret is that i've already taken all the classes he offers.
Frankum's class was definitely challenging, but it taught me to work for my grades. The book quizzes are fairly simple, and the essay exams are easy IF you know the material. What you put into his class, is what you get as your grade.
Frankum is tough yes, but he expects you to do college work in a college class. If you are not a history major don't take him! Be sure to do ALL reading. A nice guy who likes his job - very knowledgeable. I would take him again.
oh god. his class was so terrible. I liked him as a teacher, and I am a good student and study hard, but i could not seem to please him.
Dr. Frankum is a hard professor, but in that he will challenge you to learn the material. Recommend taking him, but only if your sincere about learning the subject. He will treat the class based on their performance. If they do not do the work, then there will be daily quizzes. But if the reading is done, an enjoyable class will certainly be had
Dr. Frankum is extremely intelligent and a great Prof. Its possibly the first history class that I actually learned something in, but it was VERY hard. Do not take him if you truly do not want to learn history. A lot is expected for a 100 course.....and what ever you do, remember the only way to study for his class is to know EVERYTHING!!!!
Dr. Frankum's class was very difficult but it was definitely rewarding. If you honestly do every reading and quiz, go to every lecture, and pay attention you will do fine. His demeanor can be intimidating but he is a very intelligent man who has to fit the entire American history into a semester course; the trick is don't let that all get to you.
Avoid this professor! The subject material for the class is easy, but he manages to make it difficult. I'm a hard working student and i got a decent grade in his class, but I'd rather jump off a bridge than take it again.
Dr. Frankum is challenging, and 106 was extremely demanding.I got a D on the first test, but I studied and started doing all the reading and doing the identifications and study questions he provided, and I finished with an A-. He is funny and interesting, and I highly recommend him, especially for history majors. Taking his Vietnam later for sure!
i was expecting this to do fairly well in this class since i love history. i'm not a history major, but this class felt like a 300 level class and not a 100. tests are online, and even with reading every chapter for the test and with the help of Google, i still got bad grades. very knowledgable professor but extremely difficult tests and quizes
Great Prof and very sharp guy. Reading is necessary as is attendance. Tough tests but fair grader. I would not advise taking unless you are a history major.
Awesome prof!! Def callenging, but do the reading and activly follow lectures and you'll do fine. Don't be take him if you don't like to work hard. Good grades are achievable, but they aren't given out. They are earned.
I took this class online during a summer term. The workload was appropriate for a 100-level course. The points being broken down by several quizzes and small writing assignments was nice, as many classes have 2 or 3 large exams and 1 or two large term papers to determine most of your grade. I'm not a history major and I enjoyed this class.
Hard to rate.I took WW2and quite honestly I could have stayed home with the text and watched history channel. He threw a semesters worth of dates at us and gave little big picture perspective.Classroom discussion was very limited.Dont know if it was him or the course but I found the class very dry and boring.Maybe military history is jus difficult
Don't take, i only had him for an online course can't imagine how much worse he can get in a face to face class. Bleh.
He's an awesome professor. If you like awkward and quirky he get the job done. He matches his tie to the lecture and is extremely socially awkward but somehow everyone starts to love him. The only thing is be ready to do work if you're in a 100 level course. He's big on "weeding" out freshman so it's a lot of work but you learn a lot & laugh
If you want an easy A, this is the wrong professor. If you want to LEARN, Dr. Frankum is an excellent professor, very knowledgeable and only tests on what is taught or in the reading (and you MUST do the reading). Average of 100 pgs/week, but very interesting stuff. He assigns authors with various views and lets you form your own opinions.
I took an online class with him, and I honestly am baffled at his "high" ratings. In my experience, this professor was absolutely useless, his workload was unreal, and he was an absolute jerk to the class (to put it lightly). i would NEVER recommend this professor. AVOID!
The first time I read the general comments to the class for the last test, I would have agreed with the previous rater but when I read it again, I realized that he was trying to challenge us into doing better. As far as the workload: ~ 3 chapters per week or about 50 pages - that is hardly unreasonable. Hard course but offers extra credit
Online course. Heavy workload, but prepare for exams AHEAD OF TIME and you can literally copy and paste your answers to submit; I've gotten 3 100%'s this way. ANYONE who complains about him means they are lazy. He's extremely fair, he just expects a lot. Absolutely easy A if you put the work in. HIghly recommend if you are not lazy.
Awesome prof. Easily the best in the department. Don't try to pull anything over on him. Study hard and do the reading. Fair and truly wants to help. A+
Awesome professor. Very knowledgeable, personable, and willing to help. Has an honest desire to help students learn. It's not an easy grade, but you will learn a lot.
A hard professor, but a good one all the same. He'll give you a lot of work with high expectations but its all achievable. If you're looking for an easy A than don't take him. But if you're genuinely interested in the material he's a great professor.
He is a very good and very helpful profesor but you have to do a lot for just a 100 level online class. He expects a lot in the discussion posts (5 essay like posts if you want a perfect score), too much, wayyyy too much reading, and also have to listen to audio lectures. The exams aren't that hard. I wouldn't take him again.
I took Contours online and it was more work than my 400 level class that I was taking simultaneously. You are required to listen to lectures online (which is very boring) and to do discussion boards - which aren't too bad. Tests are extremely difficult.
This class is hard simply because you are more concerned with the daily qies on the daily readings, some of which range from anywhere from 5 pages to 40+. If I wasn't worrying about a quiz and readdings I think I would have had time to hear the lectures. I took a Vietnam course prior and EARNED an A, with Frankum it was a C+.
If you're a History major, by all means get this teacher. I'm an Art major, and I made the mistake of taking his Vietnam War course for a "Perspectives" requirement. He has high expectations. There is A LOT of reading required for this course. Seriously A LOT OF READING! Midterm and Final are Essay form. If you're NOT a History major, don't get him
Here'e the thing. If you like the subject, this is a good course to take. Regardless of people saying he's difficult; If you do the work, his assignments are easy. Tests are given to you only on the material you learned. Fair grader if you do the work assigned and have something intelligent to say.Great professor (despite his reputation).
Be prepared to do a lot of work. You will read all 707 pages of the textbook by the time the semester is over. It's a lot of work for a level 100 class, but as long as you do the discussion boards well you should be fine. You also have to listen to three lectures a week, which is really tedious.
If you have an interest in History you will love the course but if you are taking it as a requirement filler. DON'T! He's a fair grader and he is interesting but it's easy to lose interest if you have no interest in the class.
SO MUCH WORK LOAD! You have to listen to about 300 minutes of lecture, 250 minutes of documentary, read about 150 pages in a book, 150 pages in articles, take a test, and write at least 6 discussions EVERY TWO WEEKS. And he's a tough grader. I would only take this class if you love history.
His class is so hard. You have to listen to all the lectures and take notes through the book in order to pass the tests and even then they're still really hard. You all need to write 2 discussion posts a week in order to pass and if you post about something someone else already did you don't get credit. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!
Frankum is a confusing professor. Puts up hours of audio lecture and tons of reading. I have managed to do 0 reading or listening to lectures but I still have a B in his class. He gives a lot of critical feedback but at the end will say, "These posts are good." I am never sure if it is bad or if it is good... Tolerable for now but wouldn't do again
I had Dr. Frankum for History 105. He is definitely a hard grader and expects a lot from students but he was always really quick to respond to my questions. He also seemed to really care about my progress as a student. A lot of work but I had a great time and I'm definitely a better writer thanks to him.
Pop quiz every week, all 707 pages of the textbook read, if you like work and constantly taking surprise tests then this is the class for you. He is a great guy who really knows his stuff, but he doesn't give you the chance to keep up with the lecture and in my experience, if you are writing and you miss a detail, that detail is on the test.
Very nice professor! But he's lecture heavy, gives pop quizzes (for attendance) and expects everyone to know the book chapters inside and out. All tests are online and he curves them. MOST TESTS HAVE ONLINE QUIZLETS WHICH SAVED ME (not made by him). That's the only reason why I passed because of the quizlets. Great guy, wouldn't take again.
The class was really boring and not many grades so if you failed one assignment it really brings down your grade. Straight up lectured every class with a monotone voice. Would not recommend.
Awesome professor! Knows so much about Vietnam and has personal stories and brings in quest speakers! The class is not for the weak of heart and you need to be prepared to read 4, 200 or more page books. Plus a 20 plus page article for every class. Do not take if you are not a history major! You will bring the class down. He expects your all.
He is a TOUGH grader. He rips apart ur writing, expects your absolute best. Great at teaching the material, very helpful. Gives excellent feedback to improve your writing too. He is an amazing and helpful professor. If you want to learn hes the best, but if you want easy he is not that. You have to earn an A/B from him, they arent handed out.
Professor Frankum was a great professor. He really made the lectures so interesting and really explained his lectures as if he was telling a story. This professor really makes his history course interesting and fun. He really cares about his students doing well.
He is HARD. If you take his classes expecting to walk away with an easy A, you will be disappointed. Go in expecting to work you butt off, read tons and give the class you best effort. Do that then youll learn quite a bit and have a fair shot at a good grade. Not for the lazy or weak but a very good professor. You never will look at the clock.
This was labeled as a 100-level class, but is not as easy as it should have been. The content wasn't too much, but the workload expected definitely was. I do not recommend this class.
This class required you to read the whole textbook which I actually did not mind. I usually hate history classes but his is set up with clear outlines and dates and you learn a lot. The textbook is intersting and not hard to follow. Only thing I did not like was the 2 essay questions on every exam, if you dont know how to answer them youre screwed.
I'm taking a 300 History course that involves less work than this class. Be prepared to listen to 2.5 hours of lecture and read multiple chapters each week. Be sure you memorize his lectures word for word. I have taken so many notes in this class, yet I never seemed to have the answers he was looking for. Essay questions were very unclear.
Dr. Frankum is a tough grader, but he is tough because he believes you can do better. I got an A or higher for my tests. He provides all you need in the lectures you just have to pay attention. Granted, I did take this class online, so I was able to pause and take precise notes. I think better because of him. He is also so funny and interesting.
Incredibly knowledgeable. Talks fast but keeps your attention.
This professor makes history so fun for me and I would love to take his classes in the future. I have only one negative, his quizzes are quite tricky and cover a lot of material. If the quizzes were more frequent it would be better. All in all he is a great professor and I highly recommend.
50 minutes of lectures everyday. Some were interesting, others were very boring. 5 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Most failed the final due to unclear grading criteria. I do not recommend this class as a elective
Dr. Frankum is a joy to be around. He has the most interesting lectures, and really cares about what he is teaching. There are 15 online quizzes, and the 5 lowest grades are dropped. The midterm and the final are essays so I'd say to really study the material for those, but there are no other assignments for the course besides reading the textbook.
It was a online class and I asked a lot of questions and I didn't feel any better after his responses
Before tests he explains how he will grade it and allows you to ask questions. He is very lecture heavy, but he sprinkles in some humor to make it more fun. In order to do well you need to take intensive notes on what he is saying and study them a little. If you do this you will come out of this class with a good grade.
Professor Frankum's class is engaging, but the workload can be heavy. Quizzes are tricky, so study the material well. Unstuck AI is a great tool for exam prep.
He is insufferable. Required "attendance" for his online asynchronous class but never specified how it was taken, sent so many petty emails that weren't helpful. His lectures are boring, he deletes them once you've watched, and bonus: you can literally only use the exact words he says in his video lectures on his quizzes/final. AVOID him!
He has a really sarcastic sense of humor, but imo was really funny. Lectures are kind of boring, but he cracked jokes a lot. Exams are easy, it's like 4 questions and then an essay. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is useful to show up.
Dr. Frankum's lectures are always engaging. There is a lot of reading, and the grade is based entirely on 5 tests taken throughout the semester. The class is difficult, but overall worth it because his lectures are interesting and engaging. He also provides the textbooks, and all lectures are available online.
Your grade will consist of FIVE exams. Yes, 1,2,3,4,5 exams. That's it! Good luck!
