Great teacher but class difficult, a must for n e 1 serious about philosophy

BORRING AS HECK
He is a horrible professor! Only take him if you want to learn NOTHING about Philosophy
HORRIBLEY BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is by the far the most boring man to walk the face of the planet. Lectures on and on in a monotone voice that makes you want to strangle yourself with your shoelace. Don't study for his tests - just guess at random and you'll get a better grade.
Great dry sense of humor, knows his stuff, can be a boring speaker, but if you are serious about philosophy then you will listen anyways.
Oh wow, talk about going to a friday morning class hungover... may be the longest class I have ever taken. What a joke!
In how many languages can you say TERRIBLE??? He gives T/F tests....don't study for his tests, just guess......you'll get a better grade. I felt like I remembered NOTHING when I would attempt to study. He's SO boring and his lectures are ho
Ron is hot
hooooooooooorrible professor, has no interest in students nor passion for teaching, desperatly needs to RETIRE! likes to rub in how smart he is and doesn't really care how the students do in his class. lucky if 15 of 45 people showed up for lecture/day
THE WORST PROF AT UW-L. He talks to himself the entire class; no one knows what the hell he is talking about, and he doesn't care. LAME jokes; all T/F tests--you NEED to study for but don't really know where to start in the 500 pg. packets he hands out.
Wow. WORST CLASS EVER! For a 100 level course it's impossible. Every test is a guessing game bc he has no real teaching style. I think he likes to hear himself speak, although I'm not sure how he doesn't put himself to sleep. You will learn NOTHING.
Yeah the tests are pretty hard but the final can take you from an F to an A. He talks pretty fast too but seems like he loves the material. His jokes are so lame they made me laugh. I did a minimal amount of work/studying and am getting an A/B.
If you are registering right now don't even think about this guy. The only thing good about the class is that he doesn't care if you sleep right through the whole thing. Your brain will hurt after 225 t/f final.
To put this midly, unless you are extremely interested in philosophy, I would advise steering clear of this course. His test questions are impossible to answer, and the apathy he shows toward his teaching is at "snooze through class" level.
If you pay attention and take notes, this class is no problem.
I got an AB in the class, the tests were not bad overall. It was easy to guess. He is, however, very negative and makes the whole class feel like they're stupid. He can be funny, in a very sarcastic way. Just stick with it, it's not that bad.
Yeah, wow. Taking one of his classes will DEFINITELY turn you off to philosophy. Very degrading style of teaching...you'll feel like a moron when you get out of class each day. Boring as poo, and the material is difficult for a 100 level.
I really enjoyed the class, if you go to the tutor or see him during office hours you should get an A. If you are interested in PHL as a minor or major take his class it comes in handy for Phl 205 and 206
AWFUL!!! this class was a joke, he's a horrible teacher and the tests are just guessing. Just awful!
Wow, I am a philosophy major, who loves philosphy, but I still couldn't stand the class. He will sit in his chair and lecture the entire time, with little or no class participation. Is a very witty professor, however, although some may find him dry.
Not clear. Hands out packets that are very difficult to understand, and his lectures are not much better. His second test is a butt, however he does drop the lowest test score. I would pick another prof. if you have the opprotunity.
Glass is so hard- if you ask him to clarify something he repeats himself and then looks at you like you are dumb. He sits in his chair and rambles off his lecture that he has memorized because he has said the same thing for the last 40 years. I never went
His tests are all true and false, and they are composed of half trick questions. His lectures are dry boring and insulting. I would pick a different prof if possable. he is so boring and he really doesnt teach the information.
Entirely the worst professor at UWL. It is unfortunate that his apathetic, know-it-all style of teaching leaves students with a negative attitude towards learning and appreciating the broad subject of philosophy in this ged. ed course.
reading directly from the book. word by agonizing word. and a 270 question T / F FINAL... and i still got a B like everyone else
This dude is just plain awful. Most of my class failed, and the ones that didn't wrote t/f questions and turned them in for extra credit. Then he gives us a t/f final! You do the math.
By far the worst class I have ever taking. It is nearly impossible to get an A and it doesnt seem to matter how much you study. I left every exam not knowing if I did good or bad. It came to the point that I just stopped going to the boring class but it didnt seem to hurt or help my grade.
Funny and interesting, anyone interested in philosophy should like him. If you do the readings and show up occasionally you will pass. 331 was much easier and more fun than 100.
Nice and occationally humorous...Agenda driven... probably one of the dissappointing classes I have ever taken. The class is poorly run and his tests are true/false. I hate this class and this is a subject I enjoy.
What a funny ass, I went to class from time to time for the humor of it but he can be boring. The tests are half knowledge half luck, but u never have to go to class and u can stil do just as good as someone who goes everyday.
Covers way too much information. Extremely boring and he takes a lot of the enjoyment out of Philosophy. To his credit, he does know his stuff quite well. His homework is absolutely pointless, even though he thinks it is very meaningful. Clever and witty humor.
Far and away the worst teacher I have ever had. The man has no clue what the difference between talking and teaching is, and wouldn't know how to answer a direct question if it smacked him over the head. It would be ludacris to even call what he does "class." I learned nothing at all.
I thought this class was ridiculous. The worst part were his exams. 75 True/False questions and very tricky too, you could study a great deal and still do badly because you couldnt take your time. You couldnt just take the exam, but you had to take it quick because he wanted to lecture afterwards

Awesome prof., I would venture to say the greatest man alive. I learned so much. balenced in his opinions, and critisism.
Awesome prof., knows his stuff. all t/f tests make tests hard but overall a great prof.
Great prof. Does his best to explain th concepts. Starts out the cource with What is philosophy? My answer. The study of questions that we dont know the answers to and never will. Inturesting to say the least!
AVOID! This class is so hard, its hard to understand. It was not what I had expected, I was hoping it would be fun and interesting, its the total opposite. Tests are ridiculous and he rushes you (you only get 30min max) then he wants to still lecture at the end, which is pointless! Again, AVOID at all costs.
Worst teacher i have ever encountered ever....especially for a philosophy class. He rambles on and on in a mono-tone voice... he provides not interest for the information presented, he relates none of it to today and life in general, it seems like he has a skit memorized and has been saying the exact same thing for 20 years. The worst part about this class is that it is SOOO BORING that most people either cant stay awake or dont even come....so the tests are actually hard because its hard to remember it.
This dude is psychotic. I have never had such a crazy teacher. He talks so much for someone who doesn't make much sense. Study or not, you will probably still get a C on your test. Don't take this class. I would rather take college alg again, and I am a psych major!
Worst teacher on campus. no joke.
Does everything he can to avoid answering your question. drink a lottttt of coffee before class, you are going to need it.
I absolutely hated this class. I was somewhat interested prior to taking it but he makes the class worse than it has to be. Rambles on and on, laughs at himself. Says that attendance is a HUGE factor, I went to class everyday and got C's on every single test. He's very unclear and speaks rather quickly. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
i thought i was going to love this class.i now hate it.he talks all hour even after tests he lectures and rants on about random things that dont make sense and talks monotone.nobody ever comes to my class anymore or they're sleeping during it. the one thing ive learned fromt his class, is no matter how much you study.you'll probably get a c or less
I thought this class was going to be interesting...and interesting it was. Glass is a weird psychotic guy who seems like he needs some friends instead of more philosophy. 75 true/false test questions. Sounds easy--it's not. Take someone else if you can but if you get stuck with him, just show up and try the best you can.
Bad Teacher. I hated Him. Dont take him. He has random outbursts of laughter that only he seems to understand. And makes nice comments like 2+2=pancake.
Dr Glass is by far one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. Whatever you do dont take this class unless you absolutely have to or you get a different teacher! He likes to make joke about budget cuts and Paris Hilton..hes totally lame and I felt that I wasted an hour of my life everytime I went to class
He is, without a doubt, the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He might as well be talking in a different language because no one can ever understand what he's talking about. Tests are ridiculously hard and extremely unclear. Save yourself, your time, and your GPA and avoid this class AT ALL COSTS!
Um, if you want to handle a 225 true/false final then go right ahead...but its not that bad if you go to class and just make fun of him in your head--you remember stuff that way!
Does not answer questions. Unclear in presentation of material. You learn the most out of the book. It is however an easy A.
Interesting, nice guy, but not very personable. Talks really fast about very confusing things, very hard to keep up. It's funny when he makes jokes that noone understands but him, and he laughs. Cool course, but wouldn't reccomend the teacher.
hated this professor. Talks about the most random things and I wished that I had never taken his class. 75 true/false questions in 1/2 hr....take him if you want!
The worst teacher ever. If he engaged the class in discussion it might be fun, but otherwise it is super boring and worthless. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!
The Greatest Man Alive!!!!!!!!!!
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. Ever. Goes very fast, pointless exams, and his jokes are absolutely terrible. Stay AWAY from Glass if at all possible. PS about a third of my class dropped in the first two weeks because of how much he sucks. I should have been with them.
As a senior taking a 100 level course, I'd have to say Glass is one of the worst profs I've had. Incredibly dry, and just repeats the same things over and over. He'll use the same jokes and examples for everything without clarifying anything. He's just bad, avoid his classes at all cost.
Awesome prof. Knows his stuff, and presents it well!!!
Boring!!!!!!!!! He talks to himself while everybody is sleeping in class and he doesn't even notice this. Then he gives you tons of books to read and write papers on this. Absolutely useless as a professor!! Don't take him!
His lectures are dry and boring. Difficult to pay attention for more than five minutes. Can sometimes assign a lot of reading and writing. He is an easy grader though and a very nice man. Enjoys philosophy, but doesn't know how to get others to enjoy it as well!
if you are taking 100 with glass, you made a wrong decision. He gets bored with that class, and talks about harder topics a lot. his knowledge on philosophy is amazing, and he does a pretty good job of telling you what you need to know. Tests are cake if he gives them, generally essay tests.
Bottom line is you WILL do a lot of reading and writing for his classes. But he's a pretty easy grader and he gives more than fair tests, when he does give them. His lectures can be pretty dry and boring if he's teaching something he considers too easy for him (i.e. lower level classes). He does know a lot about philosophy though!
Not exactly the most exiting guy, I admit. But he's actually not too bad if you get him started on a topic that he's really passionate about. The one thing I liked about him is that he presents ALL philosophical arguments, and is not as biased as many of my other profs.
at first, i thought i was going to hate him, but after giving him a few weeks, i think he is one of the best profs i have ever had. he made it interesting to me and he knows more about his subject than any other prof knows about their subjects. just give him a chance, and put in the effort- you'll learn a lot!
This man is insane. He is using the same texts, same tests and same lectures that he has used for the last 3o years. His jokes are so old most people in the class don't even understand them. He is monotone (Bueller? Bueller?) and does not promote discussion in the class. Avoid this class/professor at all costs.
This guy is worthless. Doesn't explain anything in quality and expects you to know what he's thinking before he says it. You WILL teach yourself by reading his packet, which is hard to understand because the English is awful. An English Maj. would tear it apart. Take ANY other professor if you can.
Doc. Glass is one of the "Good 'ol Boys". He's an analytic philosopher who stresses clarity and likes to throw in a few old man jokes now and then. Nice guy--funny too in his own way. You'll either like or hate his teaching style--somewhat dry lecturer. However, if you pay attention your mind will be sharpened (at least in the class Ethical Theory)
Boring as Hell. Contradicts himself on exams. Chastises every discipline but his own. His class made me feel cheated out of my money and cheated out of an education. Why anybody in their right mind would take him if not for a dire need for another class, is beyond my comprehension.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! Who the Hell has ever heard of a 225 TRUE/FALSE QUESTION final exam?? Impossible to understand material, discourages class discussion, boring as Hell, ridiculously hard true/false exams, monotone lectures, useless, pointless class. He should NOT be teaching at an elementary level, none the less at a university! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! He has got to be the worst professor in the world. He makes you buy a packet from the bookstore that is IMPOSSIBLE to comprehend, he doesn't explain anything clearly, and His exams are either 75 or 225 TRUE FALSE!! Ridiculous!
Wow, is this guy still teaching?? I had him in 1989 and it still stands out as the WORST class I ever took in college. Completely boring, one time I fell asleep in his class for 20 min. Tests were T/F, totally crazy for a philosophy class. You will regret it if you take him, I still do 20 years later.
terrible.
I took Dr. Glass for intro to philosophy. Dr. Glass makes philosophy easy to understand through the use of many simplified examples. It is easy to get A's on exams as long as you do the homework and readings (like any other class). Dr. Glass has a very dry teaching style, but keeps things interesting with his sarcastic humor. Great prof.
He makes philosophy seem a lot more complicated than it really is. If you're smart and brave enough to stay in his class, do it. Make sure you read the material, you will learn how to sort out the important stuff in his material and in class. Half the class falls asleep. Exams can be difficult.
This class is suppose to be a joke, and now its the hardest class ever
he is the most bias teacher on campus you have to agree with everything he says in a class when you are expected to question ideas and statements he ruins this subject and makes it the worst class in the entire school he should be forced into retirement
This man believes the ontological argument is the best proof for the existence of god he's ever heard. 'Nuff said.
Dr. Glass is a bit of a curmudgeon with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and sharp, critical wit (think Andy Rooney). Encourages healthy sense of skepticism about any beliefs that his peers may have, yet very careful not to reveal his own. Work hard, engage the material, ask questions and you might discover how kind, helpful and generous he is.
Very intelligent professor. He may seem a little scary at first, but he's just an old sweetheart.
you have to listen to him. he is right over the book. his tests are mostly true and false. he also gave us major curves.
Do not take this class. I was really excited to take a philosophy class and now I seriously regret it.
He teaches directly from the book and he goes directly from his day to day syllabus. The tests are easy, 4 T/F tests and you drop the worst score you got. I honestly did not do the greatest in this class because I did not study. But he was extremely helpful when I asked questions. His humor is pretty dry, but at least he tries. It's not that bad.
I ended up skipping more classes than I attended, but I still ended up with an A because he is very lenient about due dates. His lectures are pretty dull and he has a dry sense of humor, but he is passionate about philosophy and you can learn a lot from him.
A phenomenal instructor; keeps it "old school." If you like Philosophy, take him, he'll make you like it even more, if not, he might be a bit of a philosophical turn-off. He's got a great (albeit dry) sense of humor which tends to step just over the line in the best way! If you can read his handwriting, pay attention, and study you'll do just fine.
An excellent course for philosophy majors and minors. Not suggested as a gen ed credit.
Good teacher. Very interested in bus topic, and works with the students to do well. Welcomes questions. Has a sense of humor that can be off putting to some but is excellent as a teacher. Has made me want to learn more about philosophy.
Hard to learn things from him. He makes you buy the syllabus which contains about 20 pages of information he wrote. In class he basically just reads from the syllabus. Doesn't engage class much. Very boring and confusing to understand. He doesn't explain things much, just reads from the packet. I do not recommend if your someone who hates droning.
would definately not recommend him. he doesn't teach, he just talks about the topic. there is no further explanation of what is in the syllabus/book. i was completely offended by him mocking the christian religion and calling christians names.
Hes a nice guy, but hes not a good teacher. He spends the whole class going over formulas and you never have any idea what he is talking about. It is straight out of the textbook and he doesn't do much to help you understand. There is a homework assignment everyday from the reading and he didn't clarify what he wanted from the assignments.
Dr. Glass is a great professor. His class is not the easiest or clearest, but he will help you if you need it. I didn't like my philosophy class that much, but he was a pretty cool guy.
Great professor who has a deep understanding of the material, communicates it well, and covers a lot of material in one semester. He assigns a bit more work than the other Philosophy professors (yet this is still not much work compared to other departments): about four long papers and four tests.
Makes the class harder to understand than just reading the textbook. Babbles on about random stuff. Very boring. Doesn't answer questions clearly.
He's a nice guy and I'll admit I love his sense of humor. He does babble on in class, but some of it does help you understand the readings. He is a very lenient grader.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE AS A GEN ED. He turns an easy class into a nightmare. Most difficult and dry course I have ever taken. He dislikes human interaction. The tests are 75 true/false questions that you much complete in 30 mins. Homework every day. Taking this class was a HUGE regret!
try to avoid this professor at all costs. absolute nightmare.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE Professor Glass is a nice guy and all but he is super confusing. At the beginning of the semester you have to buy his lecture notes which sucks. And that's pretty much all you read. Homework is writing truefalse questions based off his notes. You don't need to attend class. The only has 4 tests plus the final but its TF.
He is a nice guy and tries to be funny, but the class is SO difficult. The material is very confusing and he doesn't use powerpoints or any guidance in lecture or for the tests. The tests are all truefalse and the questions usually don't make sense. They are the only grades, too, so you're bound to fail.
Taking this class was a horrible idea.
The lectures are long and very repetitive, yet the material is still very confusing. Be prepared to take notes just from listening as he often does not write things down. The tests are tough, and homework is expected every day. He is understanding, but is not very efficient or clear. This class is tough.
He tells everyone at the start of the semester that if they need to pass the class , they just need to talk to him and he will give extra assignments. When you do ask him what to do to pass the class, he just answers, "study more." His exams are faulty with spelling and word errors and expects you to get them right still.
This professor expects you to read from his packets and later learn that some of the things from that packet isn't right. On the homework he expects you to write neatly when you can't read his comments, and he always has spelling, word, and sentence errors but expects you to get the answers right.
Although Dr. Glass is a nice guy, he is not a good teacher. Avoid this class. Very confusing teaching style.
He doesn't engage with studies. He wrote an ineffective notebook that is all you use for the semester. His test structure and grading policies are stupid for a 100class. He needs to be fired from this position. Use his online study guides from the PHL website, they are the only good study tool for his stupid class. If you skip it doesn't matter.
I graduated in 2008 with a BS in Philosophy. Dr. Glass opened my eyes to the study of philosophy and the many areas it encompasses. He was extremely intelligent and really made you think critically in order to understand the subject material. If you like Philosophy at all, you like Dr. Glass.
