He is very smart. He makes sure that you learn everything you need to know. Very helpful and understanding. His test are not very hard if you know the stuff. Labs are very easy.
HE HAS A 70% TO 75% DROP RATE. He teaches well, but his tests don’t reflect the book. His problems on the tests are completely worded differently then the way they are in the book. It is as if the test problems came from another book. Grider writes the Test, problems are not from the test
tests are very hard. AVOID HIM HE HAS A 70% DROP RATE.
Very awesome but also very hard you have to always keep up w/lecture and the book is a good background but not the only material reflected on the test. He tells alot of stories about chemisty and sometimes they are on the test. always ask questions, come to class and makes sure u undertand.
Dr. Grider is very knowledgeable and an excellent professor. He tells funny stories and keeps you interested. If you listen during his lectures and take notes, you'll do well on the tests. Dr. Grider has always been very helpful and has taken the time to help me understand chemistry. One tip...he loves Snickers candy bars! :)
He is a hard teacher and he does have a high drop out rate but at the end out of all those that stay there was not one who failed the class and 65 percent is a ..C . also he is a great teacher to take if you want to take chem 400, you will be well prepared, and chem 400 will be a easy.
He does not lec. just goes over homework. The tests are so very very hard they don't reflect anything that he went over and the wording on the test is crazy good luck if you have him.....He is a nice person though
Class was hard, but if you take good notes and make sure you understand before taking the test, you will do ok.You must make sure you ask questions though!
I LOVED taking Chemistry from Dr. Grider. I am no chem enthusiast, but this is a man who is smart, funny, fascinating, and who truly wants his students to succeed. PAY ATTENTION and take EXCELLENT notes if you want to earn a good grade. He enjoys those with quick comebacks, as well.
Great professor. Made a very boring topic for me into something interesting. Have recommended him to many people
hard class, not much teaching...tutoring pretty much mandatory
This class is not for the lazy. You will work your tail off. However, Dr. Grider is passionate about Chem and is very helpful for those who WANT to learn. He is witty and funny and his teaching style is such that he leads you to the answer. Older (and you know who you are)students will really like him.
BORING class ever~no lecture, only homework bases.
What a great teacher! He loves chemistry and will teach to you so you can understand the chemistry language. Don't zone out during lecture because his stories are telling you things he wants you to know and they will be on the test. Keep up with reading and homework and go to Beacon.
I Loved this class. He is constantly on his toes doing experiments to make the class interesting. It is a very hard class that you can easily get an A on if u want it. He is a great teacher, but i must say Beacon really helps even if u don't go every time. I'd take another class from him.
This is one of the greatest teachers. I flunked chemistry 3 times! I took it both times with him and the first time i took it with Meador. I dont recommend meador. Dr. Grider is silly and fun, and because i took it with another teacher, i can say that he doesnt make you do half of the things you do in other chemistry classes. Hes great! Take Him
You have to know the vasics in Chem before taking this class with him. I thought that I with the help of a one on one tutor I had a chance for a "C". My tutor even told me that what he was trying to show us did not apply to any nursing degree. I had to drop because he wasn't teaching. Here's the book, here's your homework attitude.
Grider is a wonderful teacher. Chemistry is a hard subject and requires alot of work. He is enthusiastic about the subject and makes it interesting and relevant. You have to pay attention in class and truly study hard and he will definitely help you as much as he can. I would highly recommend him if you want to understand chemisty and not just pass
i never thought that i will understand chem and i will get an A but he is a great teacher
Dr. Grider is a great chemistry teacher. He is funny and loves what he does. His tests are hard but you can do well if you study and take good notes. Some questions are from his lectures and not necessarily from the book. Just take good notes and study and you'll do fine. Recommend going to Beacon regularly, though.
this teacher doesn't teach. He expects the students to teach themselves, homework is expected to be done prior to metioning of chapters. He never lectures , just goes over homework. Tests are extremely hard and mostly are for chem 405. a nice guy overall but a bad teacher.
Excellent professor! He has an interesting method of having you prepared for class. Do the "homeplay" first then come to class for lecture. It really works! Try it! Listen closely he is always telling you what you need to know.
He is a really tough teacher and wants you to really learn what you are doing since a majority of the students are pre nursing. He is very helpful when you ask him questions and is a pretty funny guy. Lots of tests so there are a lot of opportunities for points. If you study consistantly you will pass.
Dr Grider is a great teacher. He makes you think and you will learn the subject well if you take him.He is very fair to everyone, doesn't show favorites. You might think it's weird to do homework first then lecture it,but it really does help make you learn. He will try to trick you on the tests, but just study good.Beacon is helpful.Lots of xtra credit
He's awesome! Tests are hard but he prepares you well. This is not an easy A, but you will learn a lot. Hated Chem in High School, but Dr. Grider made it fun. He enjoys teaching, which makes the class more enjoyable. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. Very willing to help. Can't say enough great things about Dr. Grider!
Dr. Grider works hard to prepare you for furture chem/bio classes. Would highly recommend for those interested in actually learning. This can be an intense class, and missing any lecture can be difficult to catch up. He tries different methods, making chemistry fun. If you need to take Chemistry, you won't find a better prof than Dr. Grider.
Dr. Grider is very knowledgeable and makes learning interesting. He tells funny stories to keep things lighter and loves Snicker bars (hint, hint). The class is not easy, but if you pay attention in class and take notes, you wont have any problems. I wish he tought more classes.
I am glad that I selected Dr. Grider as my chem teacher. He is really good and very entertaining. Make sure to show up to all of the lectures and take notes. Don't learn techniques from the book. Try to do it the way he teaches things...it's much easier. I highly recommend him as a professor.
he's nice NOT easy AT ALL.gives homework then lectures.you teach yourself.lab is fun n easy but he acts like hes teaching like you should know this already.most the class was on their 2nd attempt.Tons of hmwrk every night.doesnt explain at all.NO JOKE DONT TAKE HIM U WILL REGRET IT.I DO WELL IN SCHOOL IF U DO READ BOOK B5 CLASS EVEN BEGINS-A LOT!!!
Dr. Grider knows his stuff. He teaches in a manner where he wants you to teach yourself. So your do the homwork before lecture. There are chances for extra credit and he is funny. He made chemistry class much more enjoyable than I thought it was going to be.It is a tough class so be prepared to be on top of your game.
Dr Grider is one of the best instructors I have taken. He loves to teach and it shows. He teaches in a way that makes learning fun. Do the homework, pick a smart lab partner- study, do extra credit, study more, ask questions, participate in the discussion. It is a complicated subject that is fun with Dr. Grider. Try him, you wont be let down!
I honestly hated Chemistry before I came into Dr. Grider's class. This is the second time that I had to take it, but this time, it was actually interesting! Dr. Grider is one of the best teachers that I have had for any class. He was hard, but he definitely was fun and very into helping his students succeed!
Dr. Grider is probably the best chemistry teacher you could ask for. He is annoying with some of his terminology (homeplay vs homework etc) but aside from that is very approachable, and is truly a man who enjoys his work and wants you to succeed. Do NOT take this class if you're either lazy or unmotivated, because you will fail if you do not try.
Dr. Grider is a pretty cool teacher. He can intimidate you at 1st but as long as you do your homework (homeplay) and ask questions about what you dont understand then you will be fine. Do the extra credit. always offer to do a homplay on the board you get extra pts! He really helps you out. Bottom line TAKE HIM & PAY ATTENTION!!
Professor Grider makes the class interesting, he has great corney jokes, but the class does require a lot of out of class study time and major memorization. I had A potental going in the class but not the study time. If you join beacon you can expect an A. (I didn't but friends did join)
Dr. Grider is awesome! I was really nervous about taking Chem, but he has made the material interesting; and if you pay attention; pretty easy to understand. I struggled at first, but now it's as if something clicked and I get it. The only downside is he's one of those teachers that doesn't check e-mail all the time.
Best teacher ever! All 3 test I got an "A". Just do the homeplay, and take a good notes and you'll be fine.
Take Dr. Grider!!! he is the best.
Dr. Grider is an amazing teacher! You can tell he loves to teach chemistry. He makes the class very interesting. chemistry is a hard subject for most people. You HAVE to pay attention, do your homework and join BEACON! I got a B in the class and I went to beacon and studied hard. Take him!
Take this class from Dr Grider. He is fun and really enjoys what he's doing. The tests are hard but if you do your studying and join Beacon you will be fine! I was freaked out about taking it and ended up with an "A"
Dr. Grider is passionate about Chemistry, but not very passionate about teaching his students. If you take this class you will be teaching yourself! Dr. Grider relies too heavily on the Beacon program to teach chemistry instead of doing it himself.
you have to study on your own if u are taking class with him. he doesen't lecture at all. wants u to read the chapter and do homework. exam ques are much harder then homework problems. i had to drop the class bcuz he was not teaching at all. i think more then half of the class dropped after 3rd exam. he is good as person but not a good teacher.
Dr.Grider doesn't teach. You learn from Beacon.Tests are hard because of how he asks the questions.Makes it much harder then he should. You bust your butt and it feels like your still climbing uphill.I have 4.0 and will be ecstatic to get a C. Thats all I need. You read and do HW prior to coming to class. Its opposite of normal teaching method.Goodluc
Dr. Grider is an awesome prof and really cares about his students learning. Dont take his class if you are lazy, but otherwise Dr. Grider will do anything he can to help you as long as you are trying. Want an A? Do your homework and join Beacon.
Great professor! You do homework before the lecture, so know what you're having trouble with and ask questions. Beacon tutoring is available and highly recommended. Get study groups, start memorizing required stuff early, do your homework! Professor Grider was a lot of fun and kept it interesting. I love chemistry now!
I was mortified before taking Chemistry and Prof. Grider made it much more enjoyable, he knows his stuff, study hard and you will do fine! Chem. does take ALOT of time! To make things easier on yourself, try and get into study groups or in with a BEACON! This completely saved me as I saved very hard for this class. Overall, fun but hard class!
This is the worst teacher in my life. I recomend never take him. He teaches nothing at all. You should study by yourself. Many people didn't pass his class. TOO BAD!
If anyone is expecting ANY chem class to be easy go home. It wasn't hard for me since I comprehend concepts easily but for the avergae person expect to study hard and definitely ASK questions if you dont understand any content. If you plan going on to Organic Chem, he is great since he is an organic scientist having worked in the field.
Dr. Grider is an AWESOME professor. I hated the thought of chemistry and was really dreading it. He made the class fun and interesting and has been extremely helpful. I will say that you will have to work hard. I do recommend Beacon. You can pass with an A, but you will have to work for it. If you are not willing to work, do not take Chemistry.
In lectures he mentions what to know but he relies way too much on the book and doesn't teach well. You pretty much have to teach yourself and get tutoring if you don't understand. You must devote a lot of study time to this class in order to pass. He makes it really difficult but gives good curves and if you try hard you probably will pass.
Prof. Grider is great. This class is difficult and I had to put in a lot of study time, but he is very nice and willing to help you if you choose to get the help. People who think they are just going to show up and get an A are in for a surprise. Read the book and it's best to get a study partner or be enrolled in Beacon if you can.
He is a great professor! I was dreading taking chem and he made it fun! If you do the hw and show up to lecture and lab every week u'll pass successfully! Also the beacon sessions help tons I'd they are offered !
1st college class in 5 yrs, I studied a lot: ~4-6 hrs/dy 4 dys/wk, but earned As & Bs on exams. I followed Dr. Gs instructions: Attended Tutoring, Attended class, did HW B4 lecture. Read book & did H/W problems. He has a positive attitude, understands Chem, is organized & can answer your questions.
Great instructor, hard test. If you need lecutre and visual instruction very little. has a great since of humor and willingness to help.
Hard, but a great teacher. Just attend beacon and you will be fine. He is very understanding and will try to meet u half way. Definitely take him :))
An excellent teacher. Very clear and makes subject matter interesting. He is genuinely interested in the students. The class is difficult but chemistry is a difficult subject. I highly recommend. Dr. Grider.
I'm seeing a lot of: he makes us study! We HAVE to do HW! You're in college, people. Grow up. Dr. Grider is awesome, he can't do all the work for you, you have to EARN your grade. I highly recommend him. I have a great understanding of chem, pretty sure that was his goal.
Professor Grider is a great instructor. He made chemistry fun. If you study and ask questions the class is not as hard as some make it out to be. He gives extra credit questions on every test which always helps out a bit. I would highly recommend this professor.
Dr. Grider was by far the best teacher I have had. Explains everything in different ways to help all understand. Shows different ways to get correct answers. Book is a must since HW is out of the book. Gives hints for whats on tests. Grades on a curve. I didnt study at all and barely took notes and received a B+. Easy class if youre good at math.
If you want to grade Prof Grider as a person, he is wonderful, kind, and sweet. But his test problems are worded so differently than your HW that it throws you for a loop! He does have a curve, and there are extra credits...Beacon is hard to attend if you work during the day.
Although many may say Sciences are not an easy subject, it shouldt be hard either. Attending Beacon can not help if you are a full-time worker bc it is only available during the AM. Try someone else if possible. Nursing student shouldn't be able to take a teacher they already had to use the same info from the semester before.
He is funny and happy most of the time. However he confuses you with using his own methods to do problems and not the way the book tells you and that makes it confusing. He hates to book we're using and always changes things up which again is confusin. It's a hard class but he doesn't make it easier, grades hard, not on a curve, doesn't allow notes
He is a hard professor because he confuses you by using his own methods and always talks bad about the book. Tests are hard and if you don't do well on the final you automatically FAIL!!
Dr. Grider does not teach! There are no lectures all he does is go over the hw answers that you learn to do BY YOURSELF. You have to teach yourself how to do everything. He basically relies on Beacon to teach you if you need help. He is very helpful in lab which was nice but grades hard. Tests are way too long, timed and super hard.
He gives you all the tools and by taking Beacon or getting a tutor . You could get a B with some work. He is funny and knowledgeable. Lots of chances to do well.
Dr. Grieders doesn't spoon feed. You have to take responsibility and learn the material. Lots of extra credit all the tools with practices quizzes and group work. Very friendly and funny to listen to. Getting into Becon is key and or a tutor. Chemistry isn't a normal easy class it takes a lot of time and work on a students part to do well.
Dr. Grider is the BEST teacher! I was very nervous about taking chemistry but he made me love chemistry. I worked hard and read the textbook and did all the homework. If you don't do that you won't pass any class. He explained the material in easy to understand ways and was obviously enthusiastic about the subject. Best chem 305 teacher.
Chemistry is a very difficult subject-intimidating and lots of work.Lab is mandatory, lecture is not.But Dr. Grider wants you to grasp it-he will give you help if you need it. Try your hardest to go to Beacon! The practice quiz's HELP- use those to study. If Grider sees you are trying... he'll give you the grade you deserve! :) GREAT CHEM TEACHER!
Dr. Grider is a GREAT professor. He is always available to meet and talk with you, whether in person or email. I also HIGHLY recommend Beacon. It really helps a lot. It's not an easy class- you have to work hard, but he more than prepares you for future Chem classes and gives you the skills needed to succeed.
Top 3 favorite professors (over 10 years of college). Material is tough but he is very clear. Must come to class. Do assignment before class and then learn it. Some don't like that method of teaching, but I loved it. I finish the class with a 100.
Professor Grider is a GREAT and Wonderful person let alone an AWESOME teacher. This was my second go around in chem 305 and let me tell you it really helps when the teacher actually teaches you! I would highly recommend this teacher you will have a great time and actually learn a bit about chemistry!
One of the best Chemistry teachers out there, won't be able to find a better teacher!!!!!!!!!! If you need help or get stuck he will do his best to help you.
This was the best class and professor I have been in the 3 years I have been back in college. He made it so I could understand and Pass the course like I like.... You will be grateful to get this professor for chem 305!
A great teacher for chemistry. If you spend the time studying the material is pretty easy. This teacher does not overload you with useless work. He is very clear in what you need to get an A in the class.
Dr. Grider was the sweetest funniest professor I have ever taken. Jokes around and makes sure you do well in his class. He goes over homework and tests most of the time during lecture so you MUST read the text book and do all the homework to understand the class. It was an amazing class, i know some people did beacon for extra credit as well.
Hard Grader. You have to teach yourself. Beacon a must. Most beacon is offfered when int the AM which makes it hard for part-time students. Labs are fun but lectures consist of going over homework which you must to in advance. Grades though and way too long. You will have to work your tali off. Not recommended.
Grider is AWESOME! This is coming from someone that hates Chem. Beacon helped IMMENSELY. &His personality makes you WANT to learn &get immersed with the material. This class took studying (as w/ any chem class) but I had fun doing it bc I interacted w/ my peers. He's the sweetest professor you will meet at ARC hands down. I wish he taught 306!!!!
I didn't like the fact that we needed to read and do homework first then he will teach. I read and understood but as soon as I went to class he confuse me. He is funny.
He is an awesome teacher! I HATED chemistry. It was so hard for me to learn. But his class taught me a lot. His class is different because you teach yourself but it helps a lot if you really want to learn. If you do the work it will be fine. He is an awesome professor.
Dr. Grider does a different style of teaching where you read the book and do the homework then he does lecture. If you are open to this way and will try it out... its really amazing and quite helpful. Lectures are important but there isn't a ton of lecture until organic Chem and that's the last unit. Beacon is a must!!!! Just do it. Seriously.
He is Great! Be ready to spend a lot of time on homework and labs. The exams are based on homework. Gives a lot of extra credit points. Will make your day fun but you will need to study!
This was an awesome class. He explained the concepts clearly and also gave examples of real-world applications. He brought a friendly attitude and fun to the material. He also made it clear what was needed to do well on tests and lab assignments. Overall, he was a top-notch teacher.
Beacon is a must! Gives extra credit for beacon. He doesn't teach, just goes over homework in lecture. Always needs specific answers with lots of detail on tests. He's a hard grader. Must do a lot of memorization especially of the periodic table. Lots of stoichometry and math. Hes a sweet man, pretty funny. Likes snickers bars and candy.
I gotta say that this is one of my favorite professors. His teaching style makes it very easy to learn. He gives partial credit in the exams, and exams are mainly based on the homework. Overall easy class, I would take him again. A lot of people from my class got A's on the exams and some even higher than 100%.
Dr. Grider, tries to be funny by tricking the class, not very often though. It is mandatory to go to lab, but lectures you can miss. I wouldn't recommend missing any lectures after the first couple of chapters, if any at all. It is CRUCIAL in the second half of the semester to be there. Chem is overwhelming in general but Beacon is grt help.
Great teacher! Shows his passion for chemistry in his lectures. You will learn more in Dr. Grider's chem 305 class than you will in chem 310. He more than prepares you for moving on to 400 plus he's fun and explains things VERY clearly. He gives lots of examples in class. Tip: learn the nomenclature before the semester starts.
Challenging but rewarding class. Beacon20xc pts, 1 XCpts on labs & 1-5xc on exams. Style is read and do HW before class & lec. is going over HW. Attend Beacon, do all the hw then do the odd #'s to study, find your people and make a study group of your own, read, read, read. He's a good teacher but you will have to work for it.
Grider is a great professor. You have to work for the A. He assigns HW 1st then lectures the material after the HW so it forces you to read and learn. Lots of studying outside of class. Go to Beacon tutoring. it is EXTREMELY helpful! He offers you extra credit for attending. Form study groups and do odd # ?s on your own to help prepare for exams.
Dr. Grider didn't do a lot of lecturing until the very end of the semester during the organic chemistry portion of the text. Because of that, this is very much a self-starting, self-motivating, and self-teaching class. But it is doable! Classmates are your biggest help if you don't understand the material, but go to Beacon if you're able.
He doesnt lecture, like at all. This is a 90% self taugh class, you just show up for class to grade your homework and go to the lab. No matter what grade you have in the class if you dont pass the final, you fail. Tip: go to beacon, I learned more there than in class plus you COULD get extra credit from attending EVERY week. Super hard class.
Great Guy, very likable. Getting too old to teach. Cant see the board. Does not lecture. You read the book, do homework, come to class and correct homework, then a quiz. Correcting homework becomes the lecture. Seriously not good for this class. We all expect it to be tough. But this isn't how it should be taught. Try to get in a different 305 cla
Horrible teacher who don't teach. You must go to Beacon 2 hours a week for tutoring if you can teach yourself or already know chemistry. Take another teacher.
Hes very nice but he does not teach you much chemistry. Its basically a self taught class. You also grade all of your own hw and quizzes. He grades tests and labs and is a super lenient grader.
Dr Grider is great guy. Funny, likable, intelligent, and cool. But... This is a self taught class for the vast majority of time. Like others have said, correcting the homework becomes the lecture. Prepare to read each chapter twice. Its a 5 unit class. There is a lot of work to be done. Take beacon tutoring and freshen up on your algebra.
Dr. Grider actually made chemistry fun! Even when the material went way over my head, Dr. Grider told jokes and stories in a way to help us understand better. You must show up, do the HW, and go to lab, but isnt that what college is for? Do the work, go to beacon, and participate in class and youll get a lot out of it. Thanks, Dr. Grider!
Good professor; tries to make chemistry as interesting as he can. Was a very fair grader, and was patient during lectures. Also looked the other way when I dropped a glass tube and didn't make me pay a fine. ;) A bit hard of hearing at times, but also thorough in lectures and homework explanation.
