Seriously the rudest guy I have ever met. I would go to his office and ask him for help and he talked to me like I was an idiot. DO NOT take him as a teacher. findd someone else before you even consider this guy.
Head of the math department, very smart guy. Very laid back, teaches on dry erase board. Pretty easy to understand, good prof.
Great professor! Also he is the head of the Math department.
He definitely helps outside of class (he is very busy though). If you do all the work, at least a B is guaranteed, it's just a matter of finding the TIME for the work (sometimes 2-4 hours, depending on the lesson). Expects you to make the time. No excuses.
Fantastic teacher. Was really nice and personable. Twice he let the class out 20 minutes early to study for a Physics test. Work load was reasonable. A few times we had 5 assignments due in 2 days but that was rare. Homework and quizzes are online. Had 2 tries on quizzes and used the best score. Take home quizzes also given. Highly Recommended!
He's a good teacher. Will explain things until you understand. Homework & quizzes are online, there are also some take home quizzes. Afer any quiz he'll work any problems you didn't understand. You can work the homework questions unlimited times, so no reason to not make a 100 on HW, online quizzes are time & you have to tries.
This is a fantastic professor. All homework is online or in the form of a take home quiz. Online quizzes can be hard but are doable. He drops lowest quiz and homework grades at the end of the semester (the only reason I got an A) and his lectures are easy to follow. Do the practice tests and homework and you'll have no problem with this class.
great proff. I took his summer 4 week class and there was a lot of work which is to be expected but he does a great job of explaining everything. He even raised my interest in math. We only stayed the full class period 3 or 4 times he would almost always let us out between 10-45 minutes early. Overall a great proff.
He is a very thorough professor & he made class interesting. There was a lot of homework and quizzes, but it only further helped you for the exams. Also he will drop your lowest quizzes and homework's (the amount in his discretion if he feels it will bring you a letter grade. Overall great professor!
I had a hard time in his class. If I asked for help he was rood about it. I don't recommend him.
Great proffessor. Homework is harder than exams. Excellent explanation. Easy A as long as you attend, pay attention, and do your homeworks and quizzes. Highly recommend him!
Great professor. Honestly i wasn't doing good in my weekly exams, i was scoring D's in my exams, but still i got a overall grade C. I studied his class in this summer. When ever i needed help he always use to explain me and solve the question until i don't understand before and after class almost everyday.Simple words, i would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him
Super chill guy.. lots of online hw and quizzes, but he usually drops a few of your lowest at the end of the semester. study your notes and past take home quizzes and you'll do fine. just pay attention and you'll get an A
He grades fairly. Curves when needed. Homework a lot, usual for math classes. Explains things clearly and straight forwards. Nothing unexpected from the tests.
Super laid-back guy. His lectures are descriptive, which I love, and I've never had to go to anyone after class to understand the criteria. The hardest thing about this class is the word problem test, be warned about that. Overall he's an amazing professor and he'll answer your questions in class when needed.
He's a great professor. He always offers help when you need it. He gives reviews for the tests and the tests are very similar to those reviews. It's not the easiest class, but he does what he can to make it enjoyable.
He is very good at explaining topics. Expect homework and a quiz everyday. If you miss a problem on a test or quiz he writes out how to do the problem correctly. Very helpful. He drops a few quizzes and homework's at the end of the semester. He will bump you up if your grade is borderline at the end of the year.
Mr. Hammond is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. His lectures are sometimes long-winded, but he clearly explains all topics as they will appear on tests. Expect homework and quizzes every night, he will drop lowest hw and 2 lowest quizzes at the end of the class. Tip: Do the practice exams! They are almost identical to the real ones.
I took Hammond for Calculus during the Summer. As a teacher, he is really good at explaining difficult concepts, but he talks a little too fast and will mark off for the tiniest mistakes on written exams. Because it was a Summer class, I was up to my eyeballs with homework every night, but he ALWAYS let us leave class early. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Hammond has made me love math again! He is super nice, an excellent teacher, and is clear in his lectures. Nothing has totally stumped me yet, and if I ever needed help on something, he was always there for me. He assigns a lot of homework and quizzes but those help you learn the material. BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT BLINN!
Good math professor. However, there is online homework and online quizzes that you have to do. On top of that, you have take home quizzes once a week or so. He explains pretty well but I thought maybe he could have been clearer.
Expect homework like any math class. He is really good at explaining the problems (and I am awful at math). his notes are way easier than the online hw. if you do all the homework he gives you'll be good. his tests are really similar to his take home quizzes so you can use them as study guides. if you need to take a math class I would recommend him
Really straightforward professor, very clear explanations of material. Wish I was able to take him again. Very helpful outside of class as well.
He's a really nice guy that explains everything very clearly. Homework every class, but that's math. Practice tests help a ton. Do everything and study and you'll probably get an A. Taking him again for Calc 2.
Mr. Hammond was a really mice guy and explained everything pretty well. He gives a lot of homework and quizzes, but they are all online so you can use your notes. But that's math. He tells you what will be on the test and they are very straight forward. No tricks. His one flaw is his handwriting. It is very sloppy. Final is comprehensive but easy.
Very hard grader. I made A's and B's in other classes, yet I had to drop out of his class. No matter the amount of studying I did, I always failed his test despite the fact most of the answers were correct because it was not the way he wanted it. Hard to tell what he writes on the whiteboard sometimes too because his handwriting can be quite sloppy
DO NOT TAKE HIM!. has very poor writing. mixes and changes numbers up, on accident, while working problems. i got an entire page of answers right on an exam and he took 15 points off just on that page because he did not like he way I worked it out. he is the toughest grader I have seen.
Mr. Hammond was a very nice guy who wanted to teach us to the best of his abilities. He cared about us, cared about our grades and wants us to do well. I would definately take him again. He has a lot of take home quizzes and is clear about the online homework. He's got a Hawaiian shirt for every day of the week!
He is extremely engaging throughout his lectures which is really hard to do when teaching Calculus. He makes himself available for questions during and outside of class. Routine set of hmwks and take home quizzes, NO in-class quizzes, ensuring that you arent surprised with a pop-quiz. Grades tough , but doesnt expect more than you are capable of.
He is a great math professor!!! all homework is online and online quizzes that give you feedback and multiple tries to get a 100. he also gives take home quizzes that are super easy and encourages group work. Gives 5 tests plus the final which helps spread out your grade plus the 50 homework/quiz grades.
Awful handwriting, like worst handwriting I've ever seen. Takes points off of your exam because you skip a simple step. Loads of homework and quizzes. Be prepared to teach yourself the material because he spends an hour per problem in lecture and then doesn't finish the question. Practice exams are little help but the real exams are far harder.
Would I take him again? I did. His 2413 section made me want to be in his class again for 2414. Tough grader - you basically have to learn to approach the problem in exactly the same light or else you might skip a step. Grades the process much more heavily than the final answer, which I appreciate.
I am not a big fan of Mr. Hammond. He does have bad handwriting and more often than not students in my class corrected him on mistakes in examples he gave in class. His tests are kind of confusing and don't really at all relate to the homework and quizzes on my math lab. He also is not very nice and doesn't let you make up missed assignments.
TOUGH grader but if you pay attention in lecture, he will tell you how he likes it. LOTS of online homework but it pays off in the end. The exam reviews are SUPER helpful so do them! No in-class/pop quizzes ever. His lectures can be long but he explains everything VERY well. Taking him next semester for Calculus 2! Highly recommend him.
Dr. Hammond is an amazing professor who is super passionate about teaching. all hw is online and so are the quizzes. I took him MWF and fridays were left open for us to ask hw questions and go over stuff we needed help on. he is always available for office hours and really wants you to do well in math. would def take him again.
Ron Hammond is a great guy, absolutely brilliant at math, but his tests are extremely hard. If you're taking him to get an easy A or B, pick a different professor. A's and B's are POSSIBLE, but you have to work for it, and in the process you have to become REALLY good at calc.
Has a great teaching method. Always gives a practice test with answers before each test and it is very similar to the real test. Exactly what you see in class is what you are going to be tested on. Lots of online homework and quizzes and also take home quizzes.
Prof. Hammond made this class enjoyable. Lectures were simple and easy to follow. My favorite professor so far. There is a lot of homework, but he makes understanding it a breeze.
By far, the biggest disappointment. I don't know who these good reviewers are speaking of, but the Ronald Hammond I took completely sucked. Be ready to teach yourself the material because ALL of the homework is done online and is required to be done by hand, which he does NOT teach you in class. Also, he's really rude when you do ask for help.
Took him for Calculus 1&2. Amazing professor and explains everything very well in class. Very accessible outside of class and is willing to explain everything you don't understand. If you do all the homework, it prepares for the tests. He also gives out a review test for each one and that is extremely helpful. Highly highly recommend him!!!
Lectures examples are easier than homework. Gives mock test that very closely resembles test, with different problems. What will hold you back from an A? Missing homework , quizzes, or written quizzes. Test are very doable if you study mock test format. Drops lowest quiz written quiz, and homework. Will make 89.5 an A if you've done most work.
I'm taking him for the math maymester and he was a good prof. Unfortunately, there is ALOT of homework every single night, and Mathlab is a horrible tool to learn. I spent about 6 hours a night attempting to finish and never would. Tests and quizzes aren't bad, but math lab definitely was the worst. I would take him again though.
I'm taking him for a may mini right now, and I can honestly say he is one of the best professors I have had. There is a lot of homework and mathlab doesn't help much but he responds to emails fast if you were to ask him about homework. I would hands down take him again.
Mr. Hammond was excellent at teaching the material, and gave test reviews identical to the test for the most part. If I had to retake this course I would only by the access codes for MyMathlab. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! Pay attention to how he shows work! He is picky and will count off on quizzes and tests for errors in work. DO THE TEST REVIEWS!!
Lectures are long and can be boring, especially if you have taken calculus before. He is very particular with grading, almost always counts off for something. He is very straightforward when it comes to the exams and posts a practice exam which helps tremendously.
He's honestly a good teacher, the only reason i strongly disliked him was because of how HARD he graded!! i got 15 points taken off on questions i answered correctly on at least 2 test. If you don't work out the problem the way he taught you then he will take off more than half credit. Take someone else if you're seeking an A or B.
Hammond was a taught grader and he took points for no reason. He speaks very fast and always talks about things not related to the course just for killing the time. Pretty much every day online homework, online quiz, and written quiz. He graded the written quizzes very harshly.
Hammond is a great calculus professor. His lectures are very clear and organized. His take home quizzes really help you prepare for the tests, so make sure you study those. His tests are very easy, but make sure you show your work in the same steps he taught, because he will take away points if you do not. Definitely take him!
Dr. Hammond is probably the best math teacher I have ever had. His lectures are amazing and he makes a hard class seem very doable. All the quizzes and homeworks are take home and online, and his tests are very fair. He is a relatively tough grader, but will tell you in lecture what he looks for in his grading. I wish he taught all my math classes.
By far the best prof I have ever had! He makes everything extremely clear. He truly cares about his students and how they are doing in the class. Yes, he is very particular about grading but if you do it the exact way he doesn't in class it's easy. His test are just like the review and take home quizzes so if you study those you will do great!
Calculus is not ever an easy class but Mr. Hammond does a very good job explaining/teaching the material. Although the test are challenging he gives take home quizzes that are very similar and good for studying. There's lot of online homework but it's manageable. Also, he's genuinely just so nice.
Overall great professor and amazing person. Grades work for credit even if you got the answer wrong. Really does everything in his power to help you. If you just do the homework and take home quizzes and show up for class you will do great. His lectures are amazing and easy to understand and he will answer any questions you have.
Hammond was really good and he gives out partial credit on all his exams which helps a lot. He gives good test reviews and although it's a lot of online homework, the take-home quizzes aren't too bad and very helpful. His lectures can be a little long, so try not to get him at 8AM. Other than that, very bright and helpful professor!
Outstanding. Course was clearly organized, Prof. Hammond instructed clearly and had everything timed so there was ample time to review before exams. Provided practice exams that were very helpful. He wanted all students to do well, and did a great job enabling them to do so.
I normally do not rate professors but he is a horrible teacher. He goes extremely fast in his lectures and half the time you cannot read what he is writing on the board because his handwriting is sloppy. He gives A LOT of HW and the tests are nothing like his reviews. I would not advise taking Hammond as a prof. Worst prof I have ever had.
Here is the thing, he is a REALLY fair professor. He grades on a point system and on work not final answer. That being said if you're rushing and forget an you're out a point even if the problem is right (problems worth multiple points not one). He is easily accessible outside of class and will 100% help you with problems you may have.
I have to say, I despise math and Hammond is probably the best I've ever had at the subject. He's old school, just goes up on the whiteboard and teaches but he's very good. There's a lot of homework but personally I really needed it to learn the material. Tests are free response and easier than homework. Hammond is a nice guy I recommend taking him
As an easy finite math class this prof. made it very hard to understand what was going on and was rude when questioned. I went to his class, went home and taught it to myself. Gave HW, take home quiz and a quiz every class, but made you get a 90 on the MML HW to be able to take the quiz. I would spend HOURS on the HW.
This prof was absolutely horrible. I am a hardworking student, and I had always earned As and high Bs in previous math classes. I barley passed this class with max effort, because of his ways of teaching. He teaches fast and it gets confusing. To make matters worse his handwriting is terrible. Tests are difficult and he is the toughest grader.
Out of the choices I had, he was definitely the best option. typical math prof. Monotone but a pretty nice guy. The HWs stink but just do the "give me an example" and you can piece it together from there.
I knew Calc II was harder than Calc I, but I didn't realize the huge gap in material needed to be learned by the end of the semester. Hammond is a very genuine guy and gives credit where credit is due. The homework was really brutal for me but the tests (and final) were not NEARLY as bad in comparison.
Prof. Hammond is one of the best Calc professors out here. He doesn't use any notes, just teaches on a black board, which is why you need to pay attention during class. Even if you do miss out on something, you can reach out during his office hours. Whats great is that his tests are just like the reviews, so as long as you do the review its an A.
Extremely tough grader
Definitely a good prof that explains topics in depth. Picky with grading but just do it the way he teaches. Lots of hw but helps you learn the material and are free 100s with infinite tries. Online quizzes two tries. He is by far one the best math teachers Ive had. Don't buy the textbook unless you are the type to actually read through it.
Hammond is a great Calculus Prof, I took Calc 1 in high school so the class was relatively easy for me, but he is a great professor even with no calculus experience. His is pretty particular on syntax of your answers and how to work out problems, but his class isn't hard, just make sure to use equal signs and etc. Monotonous, but all math profs are
I took Mr. Hammond for calculus 1 and 3 and absolutely love his class. He is an extremely good professor whos been teaching calculus for over 20 years. He is extremely good at explaining difficult concepts and is always available during office hours and will explain a problem to you as many times as you need. Cant recommend him enough!
He is a very good teacher that tells you what he is looking for when grading on each type of problem.
Professor Hammond is a great Calculus 1 Professor. Some students say he talks fast, but he is definitely not too fast to understand. He records all of his lectures which is nice, but attendance is mandatory. Homework and quizzes after every lecture, and he is a TOUGH grader on tests, but most profs are. Still would highly recommend Prof. Hammond.
I had him for Cal 1 and Cal 2. He made the transition online during the pandemic really smooth. The only thing that really changed were the tests, which moved to MML. He recorded lectures like he normally would during face to face meetings. The take home quizzes were straightforward and based off the lectures. He is just an amazing professor.
He's a great professor. He grades hard, but he makes that clear from the beginning. The transition to an online format was very smooth and the tests got changed to an MML format. The take-home quizzes were hard but manageable. I have a strong foundation in Calc 2 because of him. Too bad the class went online. No comparison to PHYS w/ Cervantes.
Probably one of the worst teachers I've had. Doesn't really cooperate a lot. Grading on dropbox assignments doesn't make sense, it seems he just scribbles a mess for feedback which you won't be able to understand. Don't take his class!
He probably has the worst handwriting I have ever seen, I have seen my 5 year old niece write with better handwriting. Terrible grader and you wont be able to see what you did wrong as it seems like he just scribbles over your work and then goes on to say he can't comprehend your work right, and leaves you what looks to be writing from a toddler
This professor is good at teaching, but with that being said there are a few drawbacks. His handwriting is terrible. You will receive papers back with a bunch of scribbles and no clear explanation of what you did incorrectly. Sometimes, it felt like he was knit picking points off assignments. Not good at answering questions. Not the worst or best.
The thing is, he is terrible when it comes to explaining why your answer is wrong. And that is the one thing that makes him very below average. Even worse, when you try to get him to cooperate over homework or other assignments, he wont. When you don't get it the first time, just secretly change A and B to make it easier on yourslef.
this dude is clearly biased and lowkey racist. he wants his homework to be so ridiculously specific, god forbid you forget an sign. his handwriting is worse than an illiterate toddlers and any criticism he gives can be clearly disproven. decided to test his bias and submitted the same work as one of my other peers and he gave them a 95 and me a 55.
Outstanding professor, cares about students, very well respected, makes the class approachable, tests are take home, attendance to class is optional (only for your benefit). I wish I took is class for Calc 1 and 2 as well. He is clear with his lectures, goes through many examples (you get used to the bad hand writing). Would definitely take again!
Instead of tests, he does Capstones which are basically take home tests where you have a window of anywhere from 3-7 days-ish to do them. This is a life saver. He is also a good teacher and his videos are actually helpful. Nice guy too. You have to actually do your work and ask him about what you don't understand if you want to do well though.
Weekly Pearson assignments and quizzes which is the usual with any math professor. His grading is a bit unusual, but you get the hang of it. Overall not a bad professor.
Great to work with and is responsive to inquiries. This was a fun class and we took a lot of practice surveys.
Professor Hammond was a great professor! His video lectures make the content very easy to understand. You have unlimited tries on the homework and you can ask for clarification on a problem in his assignments or capstones. All assigned work is open resources except for the final since it is taken using Honorlock but you can still use your notes.
Take my advice and do not sign up for this nightmare of a professor. I took Calc 1 in Highschool so I knew most of the material but in his eyes his way is the only way to solve calculus problems. His grading is so ridiculously harsh and specific and his feed back on assignment looks like it was written by a toddler.
this professor grades really tough, he doesn't do make ups at all so if you fail your written assignments you fail, lots of homework like every math class and has these take home tests called capstones which are tough and sometimes they have you really struggling. Wouldn't recommend
He was a hard grader, you're done if you miss an equal sign showing work. Lectures are bland and don't even make sense when applying it to the written assignments. Capstone assignments were fine, but he's also a strict grader who needs better handwriting.
Professor Hammond is a good professor since his lecture videos provide you with what you need to complete the homework and written assignments. If you work your problems carefully on the written assignments, you will get a good grade. I also had him in MATH 2414 and so I took him again since I knew how his class worked.
pretty sure this dude is somewhat racist. Keep failing assignments solely due to the professor taking off so many points for small notation and subscript errors not actual mathematics. Whenever he does count off for actual math errors, his feedback on the written assignments rarely highlight the issue. His poor handwriting further exacerbates this.
Extremely tough grader and takes off points for tiny mistakes, handwriting is barely legible. Expect to watch hours worth of videos outside of class and then have homework and a quiz after each day of class, this occurs twice a week. Homework barely affects grades and is mainly from quizzes and tests which are very difficult. Do not recommend.
Hammond's class can be very challenging or very easy. If you follow his lectures and work out the problems how he does, you will pass. If you don't watch the lectures, you can't wing it. He is no longer doing traditional exams which helps because you are able to collaborate on assignments. I had him for Calc 1 and 3 and loved him.
Great guy, but is VERY meticulous about how he grades. I'd say it compares most to an english teacher: grading changes based on how he feels. Sometimes its great other times it kills the grade (especially since hw is like 50%). Great class if you want to pass, bad choice if you want the A. (I had an 88.7, no curve).
If you read the lectures and try to solve the homework before the class starts then it will be really easy for you
His class is a flip class which you have to watch lectures outside of class and you do a lot homework outside of class. I do like the Capstone system he does but he does give random written assignments if the students dont watch the lecture first thing in class the day you go over the lesson so be careful. Dont take if you learn in-person.
He says right a lot, right? That's the main thing I've taken from his class as I've probably watched like 100's of hours of lecture videos. His lecture videos aren't the worst, definitely not the best but that's a good thing! I watched mainly Khan Academy lectures instead to learn. His assignments are "fun" but he's horrible at giving feedback.
Well some pros of him He gives out home taken test, almost everything is online including lectures(doesnt lecture in class, and final is 10%. Cons has horrible handwriting, lectures are tedious, class is just him solving mymathlab which is only 10%, assignments are 50% so can be good or very bad, and Takes a long time to respond. Take him = 2 Pass
His material was super accessible and organized, which helped a lot when I was in quarantine. However, be warned that he's a tough grader, which matters since homework (online + written) is 60% of your grade, and his handwriting is illegible. Additionally, deadlines are strict, so DO YOUR WORK BEFORE IT'S DUE! Be methodical and work with others.
First of all his video lectures are amazing, as long as you pay attention/take notes you will understand his material. Does take-home test as well. But he is the toughest grader I have ever seen. I got the material really well and even tutored my friends but he graded so hard never got a 100 and barely above a 70 on any assignment. NEVER AGAIN.
Took this as a 5-week summer class. Mr. Hammond is one of the best math profs I've had, he explains everything super clearly & is accessible on Remind outside of class. He is kind of a tough grader, and his handwriting is terrible, but you'll adjust. He truly cares so much about his students tho, great dude & great lectures. Made Cal 3 so easy :)
Awful professor and his hand writing is illegible. Is not understanding what so ever in any circumstances. Will accept no late work no matter the cirucmstance and his in person lectures are super long and teach everything besides waht we need to learn for the tests. He cares more about grades then actually teaching his students.
He actively grades every assignment with feedback, but the feedback is illegible. He's good about giving opportunities to ask questions about homework and lectures and the practice problems and test questions aren't abysmal or overly complex. He has 'Remind' and is very good about responding to questions as long as you ask at a reasonable hour.
Avoid this professor! Not only does he not teach the information needed for the proctored tests, but he is also inconsiderate and accusatory. I took this class online; the lectures were unnecessarily long and did not provide much help on the assignments and tests. His handwriting for feedback is not legible at all. I would not recommend.
I had Prof. Hammond for precal and Calc III and he has been my favorite math professor. I've never NOT understood something he was teaching. I would ask him math questions about physics problems I had and he would do his best to help me understand the math and theory behind what I was doing. There was a lot of homework but not an absurd amount.
I took Mr. Hammond for calc II and as this course is known to be one of the hardest classes, he made it so clear and simple. his teaching style is very organized and smart. he gives practice tests that are exactly like the actual tests! he gives regular homework but that would just help you understand the material better. Easy A in his class!!
Not very accessible for office hours, Very nit picky grader
His handwriting is awful and grading system is foolish. You get points taken off for not putting an = sign, not making your graphs "curvy enough", and not using the methods taught in class (10+ points taken off per "mistake"). What is learned in class is very different from online hw. Extremely unpleasant professor and has no empathy for students.
Do NOT recommend! Class could be 1/2 an hour shorter if he didn't overexplain concepts mutliple times. Most students are lost, the worst grader in both exam and hw. HATES when people leave his class early and will do pop quizzes the last 4 min. of class. Apathetic towards students, is "never wrong" in his senseless grading system. Save yourselves!!
Great professor for all calc's! He explains everything in detail, is reachable by text outside of class, and explains exactly what he wants to see on all assignments. Reviews are exactly like tests. He has online videos and goes into more detail during in-class lectures. Super great, nice guy. Will not budge, though. VERY experienced and organized!
Honestly one of the worst people I have ever met. Couldn't buy an A on homework and they are weighted 30 percent. Missed class with a funeral and would not extend homework due date. As well as put a question in the next test based on if you were in class or not. DO NOT TAKE!
Took his class for both calc 2 and calc 3, and if you're looking for a professor that actually teaches during lecture, then this is the class to go to. However, he grades both his written assignments and exams pretty harshly and often is unnecessarily rude when doing so. Good practice exams and good lectures vs. tough grading and lots of homework.
He teaches well but he grades really hard. You have to do the work EXACTLY his way or else he'll take points off. Extremely common to get the answer right and show good work but its not up to his par so half points off. Posts useful online lectures though. Impossible to reason with him on anything and doesn't care about your grade.
Professor Hammond was overall a good professor. His lectures were informative and the examples he worked out in class looked like what you would see in the exams so pay attention. Make sure to attend class and show that you care for the course and he does his best to help you. Professor Hammond is one of the better profs at RELLIS.
If you want a professor who is a capable teacher but also unnecessarily disrespectful, then he is perfect. His lectures are good but he is reluctant to help you in any way; he responds to messages quickly (if he doesn't leave you on read) but is incredibly rude. I took this as a 5-week course online and wouldn't make the same mistake again. RAHHH!!
Does not hand out papers for notes, so bring a notebook. Expects you to work problems out his way and ONLY his way or it will be wrong regardless of if the answer is right. You can text him on Remind, but don't always expect it to be helpful. He is a nice guy, but he just doesn't seem to want to help wherever he is needed.
Very tough grader. Feedback is poorly presented and it is hard to learn from your mistakes. I took this class online and his handwriting is illegible. I could not follow with lectures just by reading his notes. If you can write quickly, everything in his lectures is well explained but he expects you to know concepts intimately after presenting it.
Extremely tough grader and will only accept work if it is done his way and his way only. Lots of written homework assignments that are important to grade and will not hesitate to take off 80% for missing small marks regardless if the answer is correct. Feedback is illegible and is stubborn on deadlines. Lectures are great, explains topics well.
I took an online course with Mr. Hammond Fall 2022 and he quickly became my favorite math teacher. His lecture videos were super in depth and he explains the theory behind everything incredibly clearly. There were a couple times i would message him and he was pretty rude for no reason but overall great teacher.
Very good lecturer. However, does not care AT ALL about students. For example, other classes got to use calculators on every exam (including the final) while we got to use them on part of one. Also extremely hard grader and if you don't do it exactly his way it will be mostly wrong. Avoid if possible.
I rate this professor a 4 on the Schmidt pain index.
*Read this to be successful in his class* Class: written assignments (strictly graded by Mr. Hammond, work with friends) (30%), mymathlabs (15%), tests (10%), final (15%). He is very strict with his grades so proofread your written assignments 5 times over according to his lecture, can be a deciding factor between an A or a B. Gives practice exams.
The best math TEACHER I have ever had. Second time learning calculus 1, his lectures still gave me something to learn. He is also the hardest GRADER I have ever had. He found a way to turned math homework into a LA assignment. But just like how grammer makes you a better writter, Mr.Hammond's wacky grading will make you a better mathmatician.
I was able to get a 91 and 96 on the 2nd and 3rd exam but got hammered on the 4th exam, but mostly on my own fault. Picky on partial credit, such as certain symbols that you need to reiterate but that's mostly just remembering to write it. Exams were mostly like the review, and the final exam is all MC. wasn't too difficult if u memorized formulas.
Took his online Calc 3 class. Good lectures but leaves out few specific details you may be curious about. Does not get to the "why" as quick as I'd like, so skipping around helps with time. Doesn't like it when you dont watch the lectures as reflected by his harsh grading (expects you to quote him and use his notation). Responds to messages quick.
This Professor was extremely difficult to comply with, had his standards been better he could have helped more students. Instead spends time having hard critiqued exams as well as no room for error in the time table of assignments, no regard whether how important for the student.
His lectures are pretty solid although he takes a lot of time to explain something when it shouldn't take that long. But man is way too strict on grading takes off points even if your answer is right and his feedback is very illegible he should focus on students getting the answer right than comparing it to how newton did calculus.
Professor is very rude and disrespectful. He is not reasonable and believes in my way or highway type of policy. If you dont follow his techniques down to exact dot and comma , you will loose lot of points. He gave me lot of sleepless nights. He always comes up with ways to take points of in the quiz .
Very rude
Do not take this professor for calculus 1. He is extremely nitpicky when it comes to written assignments and also has terrible handwriting for the feedback. You will be spending a lot of time outside of lecture and still will manage to somehow get a terrible grade. Took away credit for a problem because I used a method he didn't introduce in class
Prof. Hammond has really good lectures, but is a really tough grader. He gives online hw and his own hw after every class, and his tests were similar to his practice exams. Calc 3 is a tough class, but he helps by connecting concepts from calc 1 and 2 which really helped me in his class.
Do NOT take this professor for Calc 3. He took 15 points off of my HW because I didn't use equal signs! Even though I had the right answer he still took off points for specific things. No makeup HW either. I took his summer 5 week course and the HW + tests were given through Pearson. Do NOT take him please!! He also assigns HW made by himself.
Takes huge amounts of points off for tiny things, I only got 3 questions wrong on an exam and still only received a 70 on the exam. He will only round your grade if he likes you. Every test has had a failing average but he still refuses to round. No one in this class has an A and I doubt anyone will finish with one.
Literally the fastest grader Iv ever had. I would go to bed worried about my exam grade i just took and by 8 next morning it would be out. Hardest grader I've ever had, despite that i feel like he would be really good for Cal 1-3, just depends on if your thorough and able to pay attention. I wish every prof taught like him. def possible to get an A
He will only round up if he likes you and takes off points for every little thing. Will vaguely say things in class that are "fun facts" and then end up testing you on them and they end up being worth 5 %. Doesn't round up despite his horrible test averages and feedback on homework and tests is negative. Gets off track talking about Newton.
Most people fight for extra credit while we were fighting for the regular credit.
There are many issues with how everything is formatted and how he wants his tests, which makes it extremely inaccessible to a majority of students I have an extremely powerful PC and internet yet he will basically call you broke if your webcam quality is not the best. I have never had any issues with ANY online classes at Blinn regarding anything.
VERY bad hand writing and boring lectures that drag on. I learn more from the copious amounts of homework that is assigned than his actual videos. Grades extremely hard on paper assignments. Unnecessarily rude in his feedback, which is pretty poor and not helpful, from what I can even read. Not the worst, but could be a lot better.
Horrible professor. Not helpful whatsoever. I've asked him multiple questions because there were parts I didn't understand, and he wouldn't give a clear answer. If you get him drop him. Also this guy is an horrible grader. He will take of points for everything. Draw an arrow to show you did your work on a separate part of the paper 30 points off.
The most absurdly difficult grader Ive ever encountered. Takes off 20-30 points for very small things in your work, even if the answer is right. Assigns an ungodly amount of work, even by 5-week course standards. Expect 5ish hours of work a day including weekends, often more. Take under no circumstance if you care abt your GPA, hard for summer too.
Terrible hand writing. Please don't take him. He grades way too hard and takes off too many points per mistake. Take anyone else to be honest
Extremely rude and curt. Illegible handwriting. He is probably just an old man mad because he didn't make it to A&M. TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR if you want to keep your summer. Also, he has written assignments (basically quizzes) due every day that if you forget a negative sign, -20 points... so good luck.
AVOID. You have to do every problem verbatim the way he does or else its wrong. You can be right, you can be thorough, but it does not matter, it is wrong and will cost you 20+ points on exams & hw. Awful handwriting. 2x speed lectures+homework=a ridiculous ~3-6hrs+ of work daily + weekends. Rude and stubborn. Turns A students into B students.
His lecture videos are pretty good but long, his handwriting is terrible. His grading is absurdly intolerant: small mistakes will kill your grade. Content isn't difficult, just his grading (I got an A on the final, which he doesn't grade). No curve, exam drop, nor extra credit. Watches the HonorLock webcam videos. 2+hrs of work every. single. day.
His handwriting during lectures and written feedback is illegible. His lectures are disengaging and drag on. He makes extra homework assignments additional to those in MML that are graded extremely tough and worth 30% of your grade. Along with this, he creates his own written exam additional to the one in MML which is guaranteed to tank your grade.
His grading is very tough. He will take many 20-40 points off even if you get the right answer, but not the way he wants it. He uses remind but you have a 25% chance that he responds and if he responds he will not give you a clear answer or will not answer your question at all. The final was very easy. Take at your own risk.
Decent teacher, but I've never had a worse grader in my life. I would regularly get 20+ points less than my classmates on tests when I got the same answers in the same way. He would just make up ways to take off points because he didn't like how I did my work, even if it was entirely mathematically correct. Blatantly unfair professor.
Hard grader and has written homework and exams that go beyond learning objectives. Don't take this prof or online calc
This is the worst class I have ever been in. Super rough grading that is unpredictable, lectures are him glazing mathematicians and random rambling. Has test questions involving super specific knowledge in the lectures, like the color of the lid of a can he used for a 5 minute example in class that was worth 5 points. Avoid his class if you can.
Tough grading, but lectures are worth attending. Use Unstuck AI and the free textbook to save time on this intense class. Stay engaged, and you may survive this math course.
Genuinely confused as to how this man has a job. Every move he makes is an attempt to screw you over. If you ask him a question he will likely be very rude and condescending when you ask. Will take off a ridiculous amount of points for non-math related errors. Makes it hard to learn and enjoy math, will kill your passion for engineering.
Avoid at all costs, insanely hard grader, no len
You have to work problems out his way on tests and homework or you lose points, however he is really good at teaching the content. Homework is all online, and there are no quizzes. Tests are not multiple choice, he grades you on both your work and your answer.
Great Professor when it came to lectures, but his grading was awful and inconsistent. He would take off points if you don't do it exactly the way he wants and he is unapproachable. Go to the lectures because there are bs questions on the tests relating to something he said in lecture.
Professor Hammond was an extremely difficult grader. His grading scale had no concrete grading rubric and one little mark off could be worth 10 points. He was extremely passive aggressive when you asked him a question. Heavy lectures that were okay, but sometimes he just yapped. Exams graded heavily with the same uncertain grading style.
First time in my life I actually felt I had an awful professor. Extremely unclear grading standards, takes points off with no warnings. Grades students with extremely high criteria, but his own practice exams contains mistakes such as incorrect answers. Brags about teaching at Blinn for 20+ years. Ego-filled, believes that his way is the only way.
Horrible professor, does way too much for someone that works at blinn, ego filled, thinks his way is the only way that can solve test problems. you have to show 2 hands and chest up at all times when taking exams. avoid at all cost!
RUN. I would've waited till I finished this class, but I've had enough. Harshest most inconsistent grader of my whole academic career. If you don't do it his way bar for bar you'll lose mad points. Be making exam questions on things he mentions in passing during his massive mid-lecture off topic yap sessions. If it's not too late drop the class now
The first thing to say is that he is an extremely inconsistent and tough grader, especially on the homework after every class. You have to do everything his way or else he will take off points, even if you get the correct answer. He takes off points for even the smallest of mistakes, and it's the same for his exams.
AWFUL. RUN.
The worst teacher I've ever had. It's not even up for debate. Do NOT take this dude. TAKE IT ANYWHERE ELSE WITH WHOEVER ELSE. NOT THIS DUDE
Grades by opinion: Wrote in my homework on accident < symbol rather than ( symbol and he failed me on the homework even though the logic and everything behind each question was correct. Hand writing is awful: Can't learn from mistakes Grades based on lectures: will ask a specific questions that was said in 30 minute lectures good prof, bad grader
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Very harsh grader, very unreasonable and generally comes off as rude and condescending. I took calculus for two years before taking this class and the only reason I got a B and kept an A for most of the semester is because I went into the class already knowing the material. PLEASE try to take literally anyone else.
He was chill. His lectures were super in depth and really good, but he graded his test impossibly hard. He would take off points for the littlest thing you got wrong even if you got the final answer right. Final was free, and he curves.
Worst teacher I've had. Handwriting is unreadable, grading is harsh—miss a step, lose all points. Everything's due at 8 a.m. so stay ahead or wake up early. Forget to turn something in or have an emergency? Too bad—automatic zero, no appeal, no exceptions.
Lectures were very helpful, but there was so much homework after each one (2-4+ hours of HW per lecture), and he grades the written assignments like they were tests. Only reason I got a B was because my homework average was so bad even though I did all of them. He gives out test reviews which are very helpful, but his handwriting is hard to read.
theres online and written exams, online is proctored, you also got written, online assignments. will take points off for the most random stuff you'll ever think off, like "graph not 3D enough" and he doesnt use textbook at all, one written assignment i copied the defnition in the textbook word by word and he marked me for using AI
Avoid him at all costs for a 5 week summer online course. His workload is unreasonable and his grading is incredibly harsh and inconsistent. Along with that, the exams are very difficult and technical making passing them seem impossible. Also, if you have any emergency or technical problem that makes you unable to turn something in, expect a 0.
AVOID this class at all costs! Extremely harsh grader who doesn't want problems solved in a way that diverges from his methodology. I barely kept my B and was close to getting a C in this class. If you have no other option, stay on top of your work because he is uncompromising with deadlines. The positive reviews are fake and manipulated.
Hammond's class was a struggle. His lectures were unclear, forcing us to self-teach. Grading felt harsh, especially on written work. Plus, the online homework with handwritten requirements was a headache, and he was often rude if you dared ask for help. Avoid if you want a supportive learning environment.
Ronald Hammond's class at Blinn was a complete waste of time. He relies heavily on vague online assignments and never actually teaches in person. When you ask questions, expect a dismissive, almost hostile response. His grading is arbitrary. Steer clear unless you enjoy teaching yourself and being treated poorly.

avoid at all costs!!

I do not understand this course bruh ts pmo
He would take off major points on HW if not formatted his way. Hes a super hard grader and his grading system is inconsistent (never in your benefit). He rambles about non math stuff and it comes up later for a grade. I did HW everyday and understood all material provided before the first exam, I got a 60. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU LOVE YOURSELF!
He gives us very little time to do the homework and always yaps too much on the lectures. He grades your homework the morning after it's due, so he literally wakes up just to ruin peoples' days.
Written assignments are graded like a random number generator. Tests are all computer graded and if you write something in a slightly different notation it's just wrong. You'll understand the curriculum completely but still end up with a C.
Completely stupid grading guideline. Feels like he is using a random number generator instead of actually grading stuff. Please avoid at any costs and try to select another teacher!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Take your time to do other maths and come back to this one in the summer. The summer has better professors that elaborate more clearly and respond fast and clear. The lectures are better and they are also really kind. They grade nicer and have a better attitude toward teaching in general.
I barely passed this class. I had to watch almost every lecture again (they were not that helpful) because sometimes the professor goes on the wildest tangents and goes completely off topic. His grading is super inconsistent too. I think it depends on his mood and less on whether or not you actually know it. Please dont take.
Grades on very little things. If he graded his own homework he would probably give himself a 50 on some of them. One of them even said "i wont grade based on drawing abilities" and still took points off when i didn't draw it exactly as intended (it was not wrong).
Almost impossible to get a good grade on written assignments, so unless you're perfect on everything else prepare to get a B. Incredibly difficult to work with. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
This guy will nickel and dime you to a 70.1. 3 nights a week you have 2 HW due and he wont accept late for any reason even a family death. I consistently submit written HW that have correct answers then get a 50% for notation, which are weighted more than others not correctness. I get 100s on other hw and 88 test avg but am struggling for a b
Very inconsistent and unfair with grading. Takes points off for steps in the problem missed, if you write something that he doesn't get why you used (like if you brain dump work), and grades almost only off work, regardless of if your answer was right or not and if you actually wrote down the correct work. Often goes off topic during lecture. Rude.
Very rude. I didn't think it was possible to get a professor who grades as harshly as he does. If your procedure doesn't align with the way he wants it, he will take points off. He'll even take points off for a missed equal sign. Terrible handwriting. Too much theory on lectures like just get to the point. Assignments are harder than exams. 0/10
Hard to get a hold of. Basically only reachable by remind, but he doesn't actually answer your questions he just skates around it. A good amount of his practice exams have wrong answers. He is the toughest grader ever. Do not expect to get a 100 on anything except the first few assignments. He is never wrong and there is no changing his mind
This professor grades like you ran over his dog
Probably one of the worst professors I've had. A very tough grader, and never clearly explains why he's taking points off on a test or assignment. If you don't do everything his way, even if you get the right answer, he will take off points. His lectures are also very off topics a lot of the times, and is just not a very nice guy overall.
Do not pick this professor for your own sake. the dude is an absolute mong. Every day I wished the bus rolled into a ditch and hospitalized everyone so I couldn't make it to his class. The answers for tests and assignments should be written just the way he likes, or you're done for. DO NOT TAKE HIM. FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR SANITY
THIS PROFESSOR IS THE WORST. If you wanna pass don't take this class. He's going to make your semester miserable. If you don't go to lectures he will fail you. If you don't do problems his way, he will fail you. There is nothing you can do to make him impressed. He wakes up just to ruin peoples days. If you end up in his class drop it as soon.
If I knew I was going to take this prof, I would have reconsidered studying to become an engineer. Way too strict on almost everything. Avoid!!
Harsh grader, tons of homework, and handwritings ehh. Attendance is not mandatory, he uploads lecture vids which I substituted instead of attending. Explains concepts well, but the vids are so long that it becomes a blur. Use the videos examples as a reference when doing written assignments because he wants it his way. 4 midterms and a final
Professor isn't too bad, you just have to make sure your homework is done exactly like the notes or he will take points off. Easily accesible outside of class but he responds very vaguely which doesnt answer the question. Handwriting sucks, lectures are online, tests are hard but like the homework. Releases practice exams, final is 20MCQ, easy.
Awful handwriting in his lectures and only grades based on how well your work matches what he thought in lecture. His lectures are also available online. He also does not have a point value for each question on tests or homework. Easy to access on remind but replies very short answers that don't help. The final is an easy 20 multiple choice test
Genuinely the best math professor I have ever had. His lectures and instructions were always clear and he was very reachable outside of class.
Most of these reviews will tell you that professor Hammond is cruel and doesn't care, but the reality is that if you make the effort to come to class, he will treat you with the same respect that you treated him with by showing up. If you take this course in person, SHOW UP TO CLASS!! it's all the difference. don't be lazy, it will cost you.
If you've taken Calc 1 before, just do it his way. He will take lots of points off on written assignments if you don't & you won't get an A. He gives good lectures, is pretty clear on what he wants, & his exams aren't unfair. Show up to class, put effort into HW, & you should get an A. Final was easy. Will curve 89s if you go to class & submit HWs.
I took this class for Calculus one without any prior calculus knowledge. His lectures were pretty good and he broke down every topic well. Every week there is at least two online assignments anywhere from 10-30 questions and two written assignments. He is a VERY tough grader (equal signs!!) and is not lenient on grading both assignments and exams.
