Go to class everyday and take good, clear notes! Every exam, including the final, is based on, and is open notes. You hardly even use the text!

a funny character.. just remember to write down the notes he writes on the board exactly as they are because on the tests, he expects you to know the everything, word for word--miss one and that's a minus point. of course, it's open notes.

He may be really easy for Phil 160 but his Phil 250 class isn't that easy. His exams are take-home, and the questions do come from his lectures, but if you don't understand the logic then you can easily lose alot of points on his exams. You can take the course without the book, but if you want the A

Eccentric kind of dude, laughs wierd but is REALLY EASY! Notes are written on the board and needed to be copied at EXACT word for word. Opens notes but it would not help if you copied his notes different. REMEMBER: WORD FOR WORD. VERY easy class! Do not buy the book, you don't need it.

Very good teacher, but don't sit in the front row! He smells like cigarettes and he has the tendency pick on you if you're in the front. Nice guy, though. Class was pretty easy if you study for 30 minutes a night.

The class was in a big lecture hall and if you're in the back, you will fall asleep and get bored. He is a boring lecturer. Not very interesting teacher. To pass the class, you just need to copy his notes because most of them will be in the quizzes. I do not recommend this teacher.

Houts indeed has his favorites. Observing his behavior towards those who take extreme intrest in this pointless subjects are those that Houts pays attention to. He likes to give praise to those who "nerdy" loser type beings. Houts is a nice guy at times, but overall , his classess are not recomend

Easy A. Grades are based on only 4 tests. Tests are open book/notes. Get the notes to pass the tests. Book isn't that useful. If you want to stay awake for the class, don't sit in the back and try to participate no matter how dull it is.

Class was ok. Only becasue he allows us to use notes. But beware, he is SUPER boring and sounds like the guy from the eye drop commercial. You will fall asleep. YOu must copy all his notes and it MUST be WORD for WORD or else points is deducted. No word was he talks about. But if your in it for easiness, take him. If not, go elsewhere.

All you have to do is show up to class and copy down the definitions. Tests are open note and there is one essay which he gives a full example of during class. Dry and boring, but an easy A.

it's not that easy... even when u do show up, u still have to pay attention because if u miss what was on the board, then u missed out on what will be on the test. the hardest part is going to class because it's long and boring. He'll grade however he thinks is fine for his mood. Show up to his office hours, he'll remember you !

Agree with previous comment. He is defintely eccentric and has an unusual personality, but he is actually a nice guy. Class can be interesting at times and boring at others. He does like students who suck up, but he does teach the material. I would reccomend him.

He is very boring. He is kinda weird and freaky at times. Makes corny jokes and sometimes laughs at students for puttin their opinions in class. He makes me want to fall asleep in his classes but his tests are easy. They're open notes. Also take home quiz. Easy A+. If you are a patient person, take his class to boost GPA.

I like this professor, I recommend him. Well you've not much of a choice since he teaches usually 2 huge lecture hall sections. Subject matters enticing. Clarity OK, good class, good teaching, overall GOOD.

Don't need a textbook at all. If u really think u need it, borrow a friend's and photocopy ch 1-4. Only 4 chapters, 2 tests, 1 easy essay, and a final on ch 4. Tests are straightforward. Half definitions & half of w/e the chapter is on. Copy definitions word for word. Open book & note test. Boring teacher but super easy class. Easy A.

houts is such a nerd. but he is an excellent prof. and a great person. he enjoys his work which in return makes the class enjoyable. the subject is weird at first but very clear by the third week. the test are all take home, but you will not find anyone that would be able to help you on this subject, but prof. ronald himself. just show up to class.

Greek philosophy. Super easy if you take down everything he has on the board and memorize the Greek terms. He lets you use your notes for the quizzes, midterm, and final. Most of all, he is a bit funny when he laughs, even though his jokes are not laughable.

He reminds me of Don Knotts but without the sense of humor. This class is completely useless but he was nice and tried to make it fun. All the tests were take-home, there was only one or two quizzes in class. If you take this class, do NOT miss the lectures because they are crucial to understanding the material.

maybe PHIL160 is a piece of cake but PHIL250 took up a LOT of my time... even more than my 300/400 level courses, AND I got higher grades in those other classes. The subject itself is mildly interesting but not worth risking your GPA for... it's just a GE after all. If you want academic enrichment, then take this class-- otherwise choose another.

This class is unbelievably easy. Tests are all open note and pretty much all you do in them is write down definitions you copied in class so attendance is important. Only one take home essay test which was kinda hard and might mess up your grade, but other than that, this class is extremely easy. Don't bother buying a book.

It seems like an easy class but it can be tricky. Despite the fact that you do not have to attend the class, i suggest you do go in to gain more understanding. Otherwise it's a light class; no homework, only one paper as a take home test.Just answer one question per class and you will be guaranteed an A.

Houts gives take home tests but do not underestimate them. if you have not studied you most likely won't be able to do well on the test. if you study every day you should get a really good grade in the class. Make sure you attend lectures. Houts has nice sense of humor and is a very good teacher.

If you want an easy class take this one. He goes off topic TOO much and it was annoying (for me). I unlike many students actually want to LEARN.Don't buy the book, i didn't even open it and got an A b/c all test are open notes. You don't even have to attend class! You could easily copy notes from friends if you wanted.

Lets you use notes and copy off your neighbors tests. 3 exams and 1 essay. Make sure to read and attend class to understand whats going on. Just cuz he let us use notes doesnt mean your goin to understand the topic. He has a silly laugh and easy to approach.

Class is easy. Just write down every definition word for word, will need to rewrite them for tests. Warning, Prof is a bit annoying. He's nice, but once he starts talking about something else it takes hours to get back to topic. He also gets annoyed easily and will make you look like a fool if you question him. He doesnt hold a grudge though.

This class was too easy. Take it for an easy A! The professor babys you through the whole 10 weeks, letting you use your notes for the tests. Just write his definitions word for word down the last last period, and you're good to go. Participating is good, but be prepared to be his favorite teacher's pet.

This professor is so adorable. His facial expressions are the best. Easy class just make sure you write everything down word for word. He lets you use your notes on the tests but it has to be exact! Lectures can be boring so make sure you stay awake. Good class.

Easy class if you DON?T lack 'common sense'. The professor is EXTREMELY boring and the time passes by painfully slow. The way he speaks gets extremely annoying. As long as you have the notes from someone-don?t bother showing up to class...seriously. You can use your notes on tests and you don't need the book as long as you have the notes.

His class is extremely boring. You don't need to show up for class just have notes from a friend or something. Notes aren't even lecture. You copy straight from the board only. 1 Paper, grades pretty strict. Make sure you understand what you're talking about. Easy chapter tests if you understand the subject. No midterm. There is a final.

Houts is very boring but a nice guy. His tests are open notes, which basically is half of the test itself. His part II is passages and you use the phil concepts he teaches to standardize, etc. Hard to pay attention because the class goes VERY SLOW so make sure to sit in the front and listen. Participate, he likes that. Study and good luck.

very sweet old man. is very nice he has a goofy kind of laugh and does a lot of movement with his eyebrows. but other than that you use notes on tests. you don't even really have to attend just make sure you have the proper notes because you have to use the EXACT definition he gives in class or he will not give you the points.

Confusing subject, good professor. We had take home tests/quiz BUT since the subject is hard, they wont help at everything so try to understand the subject matter when he lectures. Sweet man, definitely has a funny laugh :)

not a hard class!very boring but he requires to copy his notes word by word so class attendance is necessary. two tests and an essay and the final is on only one chapter. pretty easy. first half of tests is definitions and open notes but he does require the exact definition that he gave. second half is somewhat like the examples he gives in class.

4 tests, no midterm, no classwork, no homework. go to class, study, and you should be fine. no bs-ing, and write work down WORD FOR WORD. very funny professor.

The class is pretty boring itself, but he does throw jokes here n there to make it more fun. No hw, just rewriting notes, and studying. If your going to take Phil 160 i would recommend him ;)

Funny dude, but can get a little disrespectful and boring as he takes for ever to explain the examples. 4 tests, one essay.Write word per word. Might need your own personal notes if you want an A. Easy class, extremely boring. Recommend.

He's nice and tries to interact with students. Do everything he tells you to do to prepare for his tests. Open notes but answers are not in your notes. He is picky when grading his essays. You have to do good on all your tests and essays if you want an A. Attendence is mandatory for he requires you to rewrite his definitions exactly how he gave it.

He is one of the easiest teachers i have ever had. Basically go to class copy his definitions and use ur notes on the test. The only bad side to him is that he is extremely boring and takes forever to finally explain and lecture. Barely did anything and got an A. Take this class!!

Make sure not to miss a lecture. He has a lot of important information. His tests are open notes, SO TAKE GOOD NOTES! His class is easy. 2 tests, 1 one essay, 1 final. Reading the book helps with the essay. I recommend taking his class. Its a class you don't really need to stress about.

You must attend every lecture. Notes are very important! a necessity! just copy everything he writes on the board, every definition and example. tests are open notes. 3 tests one essay. not too tough. nice guy, funny laugh.

Easy class. Just copy his notes word-for-word and you can use them on the test. One essay that is kind of unclear. Write it and go to his office hours and ask a ton of questions before handing it in. He is not a rude guy. He just has weird mannerisms that come off that way.

This professor is nice, but very sarcastic. This class is boring and I definitely was NEVER entertained in this class because he would only talk to the people in the front and then would talk super slow. It kind of reminded me of the "Ferris Bueller" movie. If you are in need of a class, then take it, but otherwise look elsewhere. Take good notes!

The class is boring and he tends to get off topic a lot. If you write down everything he puts on the board you should pass. Also he is so sarcastic and sometimes he sounds like he's being an ass but to me it sounded like hes just telling the truth. I think some people thought he was picking on them because of that but he doesnt direct it to anyone

he can be very boring at times but his tests are EASY just be sure to exaggerate on your periods when the class is quiet he likes to use jokes some are actually funny and be prepared to laugh at his laugh its weird Also try not to sit so close to the front or he will pick on u but don't sit too far or else you can't read his hand writing TAKE HIM

His lectures are long and he does not let you leave early. He was sweet and tried to be funny. His homework was optional, but it's good practice for the exams. We only had one exam, the midterm and the final + one essay. The essay helped me out a lot, so try your hardest. Overall, he's a tough grader and you have to try your hardest in this class.

Open note tests. Walks out of class during tests. Funny but can get off topic quickly. Must write exactly what his notes say. Serious about proper English. I got a C. Not supper easy but doable. You can find textbook online. No roll call. 3 tests and one essay. Tests has definitions and writing. Essay was confusing. Overall better than other prof.

He's a funny and sweet guy. His class is extremely easy. All you have to do is take notes and look through your notes in the class because the only 3 tests he gives out are open notes.

Just copy the notes and you'll receive an A. Final was a bit tricky, but doable. Very nice professor, funny. Walks out during tests, & lets you use notes. Does not end his lecture until (at most)5 mins before class ends. Dont buy textbook. it was useless since he writes his own definitions

This is a somehow easy class it depends if you are into philosophy. Is based on 3 test & one papers, each test if based on definitions and critical thinking problems, you can use your notes but they'll only help you for the def, on the word problems is harder, plus he expects you to be a perfect engl writer, easy is somehow easy. Lectures too long

Attendance is important . Readings he assigns for problems is optional. Take notes as exactly like he writes them . For the midterm and final he has definitions and you need to write what he wrote. OPEN NOTES!!! He assigns an essay . He lets you re take the midterm if you got under a C.

His tests are open notes, so just write down everything that he writes. His lectures are long and boring most of the time. He can get off topic and start talking about his life and the Super Bowl. Class is pretty easy otherwise.

Honestly I loved coming to Houts class! The material is interesting and he goes off topic alot. He explains the material well and is open to questions. Houts has an interesting personality which you'll learn to love. All of this tests are open notes there are 3 chapter tests, 1 essay, and the final. Might be boring at times, but you'll love Houts!

This class was generally pretty easy. Everything he writes on the board will be on a quiz at some point. There were 3 quizzes and an essay format final. He doesn't take attendance but being in class is important because information from every lecture is on the quiz, so at least get the notes from someone. He can be pretty boring but it's an easy A.

This guy's only concern is going back to the 1960s. Everyday that you come to class he's talking about how technology "ruins" the younger generation so he makes you handwrite everything. Overall I'd say he's pretty easy, but is always concerned with trivial things when he's grading. I wouldn't recommend taking him.

The reviews are generally correct. He expects you to attend class, take verbatim notes, but he tests you open notes so if you do as he openly expects, easy A. He has a grudge versus slow people buried in their phones which can be refreshing and hilarious. Overall good guy.

Here is how to get an A in Houts' class: GO TO EVERY CLASS. Its boring, I know, whatever, deal with it. IF he writes something on the board, DEFINITELY write it in your notes! Keep your notes ORGANIZED! On test day, come prepared WITH YOUR NOTES! His tests have been directly from the notes since like FOREVER. His class has been the same FOREVER!

I wouldnt recomend this professor, he takes away to many points for no good reason. Always use his definitions for his paper or he will remove half the points. Also removes half the points for inproper spelling. Somewhat rude to his students.

Professor Houts is an elderly gentlemen, and he gets distracted very easily. He goes off topic for a majority of the class, and all of his notes are written on a chalkboard in messy handwriting. Two tests, a paper, and a final were given. His directions are never clearly stated, and he is a very hard grader. I would avoid taking his class.

prof Houts is an old fashioned professor and takes his time teaching concepts. There is no homework in this class and he lets you use your notes on his exams. WRITE DOWN THE NOTES WORD FOR WORD. USE HIS DEFINITIONS ONLY NOT THE AUTHORS. also, make his day and laugh at his jokes, even if you dont understand them. it puts him in a better mood

He's very old fashioned and likes to talk about stuff and gets off topic, mention Black Sabbath and he'll love you. Pretty much everything is open notes and COPY EVERYTHING ON THE BOARD AS HE WRITES IT, there are 4 tests. Don't get the textbook because he uses his own definitions.

Professor Houts was cool at first, but mid semester he became one of the rudest/meanest teachers. Hates technology, and goes on repetitive rants. His writing is sloppy, so make sure to sit in the front and pay attention because whatever he writes down he will say out loud. 3 tests open notes, & 1 essay (unclear about grading). Class will be a drag.

He is very old, has been teaching since 1984. lecture heavy you cant really hear him at times. Copy everything he writes on the board. You cant understand his writing though. Open note test. Dont recommend taking him.

If you want to fail a class this is it. He is so unprofessional,rude, and non specific to his course criteria. He is old and dislikes phone usage to even laptops. When it comes to his tests the only thing easy abut it is remembering the definitions it is open note but sometimes that doesn't even help you during the tests. Don't go into his class.

This professor is picky grader, copy his notes word by word & note your grammar, theres not a lot of points to balance out your grade, first exam is the easiest, the other exams are harder but doable! Just pay attention in class even though it might seem like common sense in the beginning! It will help you in the essay. Nice guy but old fashioned

His class is strictly note based and very student independent. Everything that he writes on the board you HAVE to write in your notes, and you can use those notes for your exams. If youre not lazy and study, youll be perfectly fine. Theres 3 exams, and 1 essay. The key for this class is not missing so you get all the notes, and ACTUALLY try.

My online instruction experience: Although the concepts are difficult to grasp at first, he is always open to emails in order to ensure your success. We had 4-5 short quizzes for each chapter (4 total). Chapter tests are very similar to his lessons that he posts. No zoom! If you need to take Phil, take it with him! He really cares for his students.

Due to Covid, there was no zoom meetings and all assignments were posted online. The professor provided a free copy of the book and the notes as well. He makes the class very easy to understand and will give extra help if students are struggling on a certain lesson. He wants everyone to pass, grades very fast, and always cheering his students on.

His class is online and he posts lecture notes which basically go through all of the topics that your quizzes will be on. He allows you to retake some quizzes that you got low grades on for a better score and he constantly gives good feedback. He is very caring and easy to talk to if you have a question about your grade or just need help!

Great proffesor! Super kind and caring and easy to talk to. Write down whats in the board and you will pass. Doesnt take attendance but write thedefintions! Or ask someone to send them. All tests and quizzes online. he will you redo work or makeup tests if you didn't do them. Would love to take him again! I got B because I guessed on quizzes.

This man's handwriting is borderline illegible, why does minor punctuation alter our grades entirely? Its unfair and honestly unreasonable. His grading scale is horrid also. Im only taking this class because its required.
