Great teacher !! Very unbiased, presents both sides very well !! Tests are pretty easy, lectures are interesting !!
He sounds like Mel Brooks...cool professor, very knowledgable in his subjects, best advice is to GO TO CLASS, you'll get a better understanding about the subject and a good grade, two tests and a 10-12 page paper...highly recommended...
Prof King was a great prof. Head of Pols department, will lead interesting discussions even if they have nothing to do with class. Go to class, I did really well from taking good notes during lectures. Fun guy, wants you to understand and succeed and will always explain challenging material
This guy is great! If you have the opportunity, take a class from him. He has a fantastic attitude.
Definitely an intellectual. Very smart, very imformative. His lectures are engaging and interesting. Not boring at all.
King is very objective and fair when presenting ideas. always has a counterpoint, makes his lectures very interesting. He emphasizes few basic general ideas and tests you on them, rather than pages of memorization. really good professor all in all.
Seemed like a prick the first couple of days, but turned out to be an awesome teacher!
In a huge lecture hall, can't understand anything. Teacher absolutely loves his job and the sujbect he teaches. No personal help really. Very difficult class with him. I suggest doing credit/no credit if you do not intend on becoming a politcal science major! Just an idea!
This guy owns.

he rocks he knows his stuff so well and his lectures are so interesting i actually want to go to them
i dont like his class. his lectures are boring and pointless to go to.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. it was WAY too much work for a GE class. It is so hard to follow along with him talking, i don't find the lectures interesting AT ALL. I expected more and aparently got less. he makes the tests EXTREMELY hard on purposed and curves them anyways. DO NOT take it unless you're a POL S MAJOR!
It is hard, but not as bad as some make it sound. Get a good TA and do a normal ammount of work and you will at least get a B.
He is so hard to follow in class and he just seems like kind of a jerk, my TA is also not necessarily what one might call "nice," which doesn't make this class any easier, not that it should be, but it's just hard to handle all the work. He makes tests ridiculously hard and then curves them which pretty much sucks.
Nice guy... hard class. Pick your TA wisely
this class kicked my butt...way too hard for a GE. unfair becuase some TA's are a lot better than others and want to try and make the class easier but some make it even harder.
this class is hard!!!! dr king seems nice but always rushed. my ta is awesome or else id be screwed.
I'm in this class rite now and its not as hard as he makes it sound in the beginning. u can afford to miss a couple classes as long as u print his lecture notes out online. he curves his grades,so its not bad. you dont necessarily HAVE to read the book altho it def helps. his notes are pretty much all u need. my TA Vanessa Buitrago is great.
Class is difficult but all the grading is done by the TA's. Hard A but pretty easy B.
Hard to follow along and boring most of the time. I heard Justin was an easier TA, my TA, Corey graded really hard! Your TA pretty much determines your grade.
The most important thing is to choose the right TA. I got a good one but some of the other students told horror stories about the other TA's scoring. Lectures were good, the notes were nice. I would enroll and then do some TA shopping cause they are the ones that will make or break your grade. If your TA does a Study guide tests are ok, papers easy
Choose the right TA and if your TA sucks go to another TAs class to sit in so at least they can explain what is going on in lectures. I do not recomend the TA named Corey I don't know if he'll be there next semester but try to get it changed if you have him. Go to office hours to get your paper written. Some TAs will help you write the whole thing
I had Julia for a TA and she rocked! Really fair and pretty easy. The main lecture is pointless though... too hard to keep up with him.
This man is crazy! He is the most confusing teacher ever. If you get a good TA its an okay class but I would recommend taking someone else.
hard!
Super smart and has interesting lectures. You MUST study the lecture notes. It also helps to have a good TA. I had Juli and she was great.
It helps to have a nice GA. I had Vanessa and she was really helpful. The main thing I would advise would be to study the lecture notes for exams. The only thing that I didn't like was that he was very opinionated and pretended not to be.

King is definitely a challenging teacher. The thing with State is people get scared when they have to work. This is not the easiest class but you learn alot. Having a good TA helps as well. Tests are challenging but i felt that as long as I read the notes and book it wasnt so bad. HE is a little arrogant but has reason to be

Ok this class wasn't that bad. After all, all the lecutre notes are on blackboard so you really don't even need to show up to lecture unless you are struggling. I got lucky and had a really chill GA (Corey), which helped because they grade all the papers (of course) but also fill in and review lecture material. As usual, study and it'll be alright.
he is a very smart teacher and teaches out of book he wrote. Very respectful but also dificult. He will help you if you need it. The class does demand a lot of reading but passing is not that hard. I NEVER went and got a C+
kings lectures put me to sleep...thank god he puts his notes up on blackboard. study those and pray for a good TA and you should do fine.
I dont kno wut everyones ****ing about! King is an amazing teacher, ppl need to realize that they are in college and college=work, GET OVER IT! dont dis on a good teacher just because ur lazy ass doesnt like learning. I LEARNED MORE FROM THIS MAN IN ONE DAY THAN I LEARNED ALL 4 YEARS OF HIGHSCHOOL, take King if you want to learn.
amazingly smart. presents very interesting and important information about our country/world/politics. take this class! he makes u realize the importance of voting, if u listen to him. three midterms and three papers. very easy papers, tests are so-so. get help from section leader and u will get an A for sure. (the rating before me is SO TRUE!!)
This class is pretty easy if u just read over his lectures. He seems like an intimidating guy but he is actually pretty cool. Lectures can get a little boring but its a good expierence. Study all lecture notes cause tests are really wordy...overall good class and good teacher!
Pretty easy class...all lecture notes are online...lots of reading but test comes directly from lecture notes. Go to class and you'll actually learn interesting material. I enjoyed his class. Plus he is easy to get a hold of when you have questions or concerns
I thought King was kinda funny to watch. He has biases and an interesting New Yorkish accent/lisp. The material is not too bad. Make sure your TA is good! The TA is the one who grades your papers! I dunno if i'd take another class from him...probably not
Hated this class. He is boring, full of himself and biased. The tests were directly from notes that he posts online. Only need to go to class for the extra credit he gives randomly. Test are M.C. fill in and matching. I got an A- but overall boring.
he's a raging liberal and you can tell he's an old hippie. but i liked him a lot. lectures are really boring but my TA vanessa was awesome and really helpful. he is also really cool if he teaches your section. tests are kinda hard and essays are pretty easy.
Nice guy, go to his office hours, he's really helpful.
He goes too fast through lectures and the tests are fairly hard. Funny guy but a tough lecturer.
This class is soooooo boring!! He is a good guy if you meet him he is very nice and all but the lectures are boring. I bought his own 90 buck book and NEVER used it >_>.. lectures are only good for the extra credit.. study ONLY the lecture notes and youll be fine :) .. boring but easy.
All these freshmen ratings are completely false. Welcome to college, where you have to actually do work! This professor is awesome and as long as you have common sense the work in this upper level class is easy, so I can't imagine it'd be very hard in the lower levels...
I actually enjoyed this class. I learned a lot during this semester. The class isn't easy though. There are only 2 tests, so there is a lot to go over before, but if you go to class and study before you should do fine. Also 3 essays. They seem hard at first, but they aren't bad. Go to class for the random quizzes. Overall,a good class.
really straight forward. he wrote the book, and posts outlines for each lecture that correspond directly to the book-go to class for attendance quizzes and to fill in the outline off his pp-memorize the outlines/pp and youll get an A on the exams easy-the book is an easy read and helps clarify everything-essays are short and graded easy by ta's
Has good intentions at teaching. But goes very fast, which is bad for a 250 student classroom. Regarding the previous senior comment: I wouldn't mind doing all that work as long as I am informed correctly. The book is there for it, but it was very confusing.
A lot of reading, A LOT OF READING. If you don't like reading A LOT, don't take this class. Interesting class, but your grade is dependent on your TA, so take this class if you like to gamble your grade.
Teacher is very passionate, likes to ramble. Attendance is necessary, small section and large. All tests are based off of lecture slides- no book really. Just know his Blackboard readings and lecture slides. T.A.s are very helpful, not him. Must be willing to put in the work but is not a hard class. Contains essays, tests, quizes and participation.
Essays are pretty easy just pick whatever stance your TA would and then they will give you a good grade. Lectures are pretty good and there are attendance quizzes that count for a decent part of your grade. The mid term and final are not horrible, combination of short answer, fill in the blank, and multiple choice.
One of the best classes I've taken at State. He expects you to read and you should. Two 50 question MC tests plus a paper explaining your welfare state. If you want to know how/why welfare policies are made, take this class. Does a good job of giving both sides of the arguments
I came into this class wanting to be a poly sci major and quickly changed my mind after. This class is basically a less interactive form of a high school government class.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. He can be monotone at times and may go off on a tangent, but overall pretty good. The lecture outlines are posted on Blackboard and are pretty much your study guides. There are a lot of readings posted on Blackboard, but reading them are not mandatory. He goes over everyone in class.
3 essays. one midterm. and one non cumulative final. essays are pretty straightforward and graded by the TAs. The exams arent hard, if you study the lecture outline you will be fine.
He follows his lecture outlines to the dot. If you read them beforehand, lectures will not be as confusing. This class got me thinking a lot about politics and the essays really test how well you are thinking about the subject. Midert/Final are easy if you study and the essays are graded fairly
Hes very talkative. Posts all his lectures up on blackboard as powerpoints before-hand. His lectures are basically him reading off of the powerpoints and adding in some extra information. The material itself wasnt hard. Gives 1 question quizzes occasionally to make check for attendance and understanding, also offers some extra reading material.
Great Professor, very knowledgeable. Tough grader though, and expects you to do the reading and participate. Definitely not an easy A, good for those genuinely interested in the material and ready to think critically. Would take again.
The course material was really eye-opening, but its presented in a boring fashion. With that said, this class should be an easy A. There are a few assigned readings, but I only read a few pages of them. The essays are long, but the guidelines are clear. Only 2 essays, 2 multiple choice exams, and 2 or 3 in class quizzes. Interesting & easy class!
King was a really nice and funny guy, but his lectures were pretty boring and he repeats himself a LOT! it is imperative that you stay focused and take good notes so you can study for the midterm and final. The paper topic is really interesting! You can tell he wants his students to do well but its hard when you feel like falling asleep haha.
If you're interested at all in social science, you'll find the lectures in this class incredibly enlightening. The professor has the longest resume I've ever seen, and it's clear that he's as knowledgeable as he is eccentric.
He's funny and he helps a lot if you go to office hours. Easy tests.
Awesome lectures if you're into political science. Easy tests, and going to his office hours helps A LOT!!! The books he chooses are also super relevant to the class and help a lot on essays and tests. Very nice and good-natured, you can tell he wants students to do well.
Lectures are long and boring. Does not encourage class participation. Literally talks for 50 minutes. Always spends 15 minutes introducing what we'll be talking about in the future. Graded by two midterms and a final. Two essays which are just opinion papers. Tests are not to difficult, class is just boring.
Passionate about the subject, easy class, but man was this class boring. I went to about 97% of the lectures and the only thing I ever learned was the exact number of tiles in the ceiling, and even that information is already forgotten. Just paid attention in the breakout sessions and tests & essays were pretty much easy money.
Grade based on two essays that are based on class lectures as well as your opinion and two midterms which he gives you study guides to. Class material is somewhat boring but he tries to make it interesting. Not a hard class but boring.
The class was a very good place to sleep in.
Talks a lot during class and can be dry. Hes very smart though. I took him for 390W and 435. Hes very caring and wants students to succeed. The grading criteria is clear.
I liked him as a professor and I liked the course. However, he made participation part of the grade, and especially during this time of online courses, participating is really hard to do. 2 papers, 1 midterm, 1 final, weekly quizzes (3-5 questions each), and participation.
Wow this class was extremely boring to say the least. However, King will post an outline of the lecture that he goes over in class and that's pretty much all you need to pass your papers plus a couple of google searches. Honestly, only take this class if you need the credit for it or if you're really into political science for whatever reason.
Great class if you are interested in the subject. Not an easy A, though. 2 essays, midterm, and final. Use the outlines and take good, detailed notes in class. Grades pretty tough on the essays. Gives extra credit in the form of pop quizzes so go to class!
Dr. King is simply hilarious and a great professor. His lectures are humorous but incredibly rich in material. The class grade is based off four essays (20% each) and 10% participation. If you're interested in Political Science and the topic at hand this class is a must take. Read, take notes, participate, and you''ll get an A.
He's clear, fair, and made my semester more interesting. He can relate to students, and asks plenty of questions that are relevant to current politics. The quizzes even help, they don't deduct points, but do serve meaningfully as extra credit points. The exam prompts are fair to understand, and the exam questions are fair, too. King is awesome!
King is amazing. Your graded on two essays, midterm, final, and attendance. If you go to class and do the readings you should get a good grade. A true king.
Professor King is really passionate about this class. If you show up and participate in class, you'll learn a lot and the lectures will be interesting. His quizzes are easy extra credit and about readings he assigns, which isn't too much. This class is interesting to take and is really informative about our society, so take it.
This class was the best of my semester. Not too much work, only two essays and two exams. He has empathy for the students to make time for their work. The lectures are inspiring, blunt, and fair to understand. The GroupMe is helpful also. Best class yet!
Prof King is a prof worth taking. I have never met someone more passionate about their subject matter as King is. Incredibly smart, engaging, and kind. I didn't read much of the material assigned, and I'll end this class with an A-. Focus your attention on the two essays and 1 midterm and final. Those will make up most of your grade in the class.
Pretty funny guy, with interesting lectures, and clear grading criteria. The readings are pretty easy and he gives take-home exams on the readings/lectures.
Best professor you could ask for! He makes his instructions clear, he can compromise on how you write your essays if you ask his help. He keeps his word adding extra credit points to test grades. His lessons are current, relevant, and surprising concerning government institutions! The most informative course that you could take! Phenomenal!!!
His class was the best when it came to discussing the welfare state. His exams were fair, and so were the essay prompts. He was engaging, and did encourage people to ask questions, and work together. He did enjoy what he offered to teach, plus he gave extra credit for quizzes to add to final exams. Hilarious humor, too! Very kind.
The lectures are relevant, and the professor offers helpful extra credit. Come every class, because there are surprise quizzes, but the points of each quiz add to your exam grades as extra credit. He's insightful, and willing to listen to all questions. There are no wrong questions! Join or form a GroupMe for your class to form study groups!
I wish there were more professors like him in elementary, because he was fair, insightful, and encouraged everyone to work together. He gave extra credit, and he directly told us what multiple topics we would cover for a test plenty of time before the exam's date. He was hilarious when it came to puns. He could empathize with students.
The GOAT! Very patient, engaging, and fair with his students! Offers relevant and meaningful insight on current topics affecting the country. Welfare programs, poverty, taxes, geographic comparisons between many countries. Updated his information on current government reports regarding the economy! Phenomenal for poli sci majors!
The tests' main questions are discussed in class to help you study. The surprise quizzes do not bring down your grade, they serve as extra credit. The books are interesting subjects. The essays are fairly graded. There is no work overload on homework. What more could you ask for?
King was a very nice professor, but lectures were very heavy. Grade made up of two written tests and two essays. Was easy but with only 4 assignments, one grade pluments ur overall.
