Ronald is a good professor, the class is pretty boring but attendance is not taken or required to do well. The entire class is 12 Weekly exams and Two "minitab" tests. The weekly quizzes are cake, just use your resources. (1 test will be dropped ) The mini tab test was a beast though. be prepared to spend atleast 3-4 hours to complete it.
Good professor , boring class. 12 online "quizzes" that are open book and easy if you take the time. He drops the lowest "quiz". 2 minitab tests but he drops the lowest score. Minitab test is pretty tough and takes awhile so just know that! That is all of the assignments for the whole course. Attendance isn't necessary to get a good grade.
Prof Miller has a very wide and colorful background. His lectures are fascinating. Gave quiz first 5 min of each class. Near the end of semester, people were leaving and he gave a couple near end. Minitab portions of quizzes and tests are difficult, but most of 12 tests are doable with resources. No final, 60% grade on 12 tests, 40% on quizzes
He is an amazing professor. You will get at least an A grade if you put time on your quizzes and exams. The information he teaches is not enough for the quizzes and exams. However, its open book on Canvas, and he gives like over 10% of extra credits plus drops your two lowest quizzes and one exam. Tutors from LC are very helpful for your study.
Professors Miller's class focuses on real-life examples of the current topic. All Exams and Tests are given online and take home "open book, open note, and open diety if that's your thing." He's very funny and has a lot of great stories. His main focus is on giving useful skills and not worrying about useless things. Goes to batt for his students.
He always like to work with every student. I was sick for over two weeks and did not attend his class for 1.5 week. He helped me with my grade a lot. Just talk to him if you need help.
I think you would have a very hard time finding a better statistics class than Ronald's. The format of the class is great and sets you up perfect to easily pass as long as you put in a decent effort. He's a great guy and makes a boring statistics class interesting with real world application. No final.
I would recommend taking this class with your friends, that will help. He is a boring teacher that talks about the 800 "Friends" he apparently knows. If you want to pass, get coursehero and Chegg. It was 100% worth it. Not as useful in the beginning, but later it is. He is the better of all the Bus. Stats teachers out there though. Trust me.
Professor Miller was an alright teacher, a lot of students showed up and took the quiz that was basically just for attendance and then left. He goes on rants about recent studies that have just come up, which would be nice, but the homework and tests are really hard so everyone just wanted to actually learn instead of hearing about all his friends.
Mr. Miller is a top statistician in the nation. If you want to learn about the future with statistics, you need to take his class. He goes on tangents but their great tangents to help liven the class. Take with a friend or find a friend since the class is easier the more minds are working on a problem. Would definitely take it from him again.
Awesome teacher. I thought stats was going to be tough, but he made this stats class a joke of a class. The hw and tests were all online - take home. If you have chegg, it helps a ton. Probably worth getting if you don't have it, just because its stats. I skipped class a couple of times and I still got a pretty good grade. Easy stats class.
Hard class. All online through connect so no testing center which is nice. 1 learnsmart, hw, exam due most weeks. I went to the math labs a lot for help. Went to class at the beginning of the semester but stopped going to work on the homework. Overall its doable but the assignments will take some time.
He's a genius, who's hard for intro level students to understand. He doesn't make you learn anything a computer can't do though. Work is all online and you can learn the concepts by yourself (occasional gems at class). He had a grading system with LOTS of extra credit. However, the school is making him to change this. Just stay on top of work
Statistics is hard, but it's even harder to learn it when you're trying to use a program that he doesn't teach you how to use. Each chapter has a textbook reading, homework assignment, and exam. For all classes after spring 2019, research participation is required (which involves stats). TIP: CHEGG STUDY IS YOUR FRIEND IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Tough subject but Miller makes it interesting, do-able and worth while. I like his class layout, his passion for the subject and his ability to make it relatable.
My favorite teacher at the university
Uses R Studio as the main tool to do your homework and testing. Coding can be difficult at first, but stick with it and you'll do better in the long run. Math Lab is currently struggling to have tutors to help with Stats and R Studio. Professor would go over slides, rarely homework. Wasn't impressed with SI for help, Math Lab is best.
The only assignments were a 10 question homework and a 5 question exam due every week and a half or so. No midterms or final. We were allowed unlimited attempts on those assignments. It was great to solidify what you learn, and to redo what you missed instead of just missing the question, getting a worse grade, and moving on. Lectures were great!
Hard class. Prof. Miller doesn't teach you how to use R, but you will use it throughout the semester. Unlimited attempts on homework/exams, but very time consuming. Chegg is your best friend for this class.
During this class you learn coding through R, but when you get to the hw and exams you can barely use code. You kinda just have to get yourself through the course. The only good part of the class is that the exams and hw is online with unlimited attempts. But I taught myself everything. I would take pics of the hw explanations and teach myself.
Ok--not the easiest class. Lots of new things like coding, R, and stats, but he gives you the code, unlimited attempts on the tests and homework, and gives lots (lots) of examples so you can use the stats in real life. I thought I was tsking another algebra class but it was very applied Given the topic I am not sure how much better it could be
There is no final for this class!! Isn't it amazing?!!!
Took him last semester and now taking MGMT 3345, and I feel like I am behind the class because I did not learn anything from this professor. He makes you use R but he does not know how to use it if the code is broken. No one else at the tutoring labs knows how to use it so they can't help you either. Chegg was the reason I passed his class.
Open note and open book makes this class easier - cant imagine the class without it
Our campus just announced that we are moving the class to online only because of the coronavirus. I've struggled at times in the class but Dr. Miller always met with me to go over problems and I am doing great in the class now. I'll miss the questions he would answer and the topics he brought up. I would highly recommend taking stats from him
Stats is a hard subject. Miller does it right by teaching us and allowing us to use the program R to do our work. I have heard other professors on campus make you do everything by hand and Miller lets us do it through R. He does not really teach the content in his lectures, you have to do a lot of reading on your own to figure it out.
This class sucks, its not professor millers fault its just that the material is tough. Professor miller has a great set up for his class but he doesnt teach it that well.
Hard class. Its math but not like anything I've ever seen before. Professor Miller gives a lot of help and it is easier (in a way) because we get to use R to do most of the work. Outcome is super practical though because I can do analyses that my current job says are important and my resume is much better now
Already using the stats in my job. totally worth it. Make sure to stay on top of things and make sure to meet Miller if you have questions--he cares and actually helps
Really nice guy that wants you to succeed and get a good grade. The class itself is hard to understand because it teaches it all with R and not excel. Really nice guy though.
Business Stats is a hard subject, but Prof Miller's course structure makes it bearable because 1) he uses R instead of excel (it's confusing at first, though), 2) all assignments and tests can be re-taken unlimited times (best way to learn and get a good grade) and 3) he is SO smart and gives real-life examples/stories that help connect the dots.
Take business statistics from him! He tries to help you out as much as he can. One LearnSmart assignment per week and a weekly unit exam. The exams have unlimited attempts! I emailed him with a question from an exam and he set up a personal zoom call with me to help. No final. R coding is confusing at first, but a lot better than doing it by hand.
If you are going to take Stats. Take it from Miller! He is very job focused when it comes to education. He doesn't believe in making us memorize all the formulas or working it out on paper. His teaching is very real world. You can take the exams as many times as it takes. Meaning that you can ace this class so long as you put the work in.
Honest review. This class is easy in the aspect that you can retake the tests as many times as you need. However, the tests are very difficult and when you ask the teacher a question, he gives minimal effort to help you. Personally, I had to take the tests several times to receive a good score. Also, R software is very confusing. Good luck!
I wasn't going to write a review but I read the ost recent one and had to comment--every chapter (that's 9 of them for the semester) Miller spent a class period where we would ask questions on our exams and he would go over them in detail, showing code, doing calculations--he put forth more effort than any of my other professors to, that's for sure
Dr. Miller was amazing. He went over exams in class, he gave extra credit projects, and let you take tests as many times as needed. He was ready to help with R code, and had many hilarious tangents. One of the best professors Ive ever had.
On the surface it is tough, but the tests can be retaken. They are also open book and note. You use something called R studio which is confusing. Professor Miller is great because he posts weekly videos that go over the 14 modules. Each module has a test and smartbook assignment. The tests also offer hints to help go through how to do the problem.
This class was dope. If you have to take stats, take it from Miller. His whole philosophy is that students should have the least amount of stress put on them during tests. Tests were open note, open book, not timed, and could be taken as many times as you wanted. I finished the class with 100% on every single assignment.
Professor Miller is great! A lot of the grade is weighed on exams of 5 questions, which you can take as many times as you want. Miller also spends a whole class period going over the exact questions on your exam with different numbers, so you actually learn how to solve stats. He also swears by Rstudio, which I now think is better than excel.
Professor Miller is everything a professor should be. Genuinely cares about the students and the subject. His exams are open book and he gives you all the code you'll need to do the stats but it can still be challenging.
DO not take Business Statistics from any other professor. He genuinely wants you to pass the class and tries to make the difficult material as easy as possible. Excellent professor!
Stats is tough no matter what, but Professor Miller is very knowledgeable and does is best to help. He teaches you the R program which helps you get the assignments done. If aren't good at stats or math I'd recommend going to the tutoring lab. They will help you understand the assignments. The tutoring lab is the reason I got an A in this class!
Super easy class since you can retake tests and check your answers during the tests. He was a terrible professor though. I didn't learn anything and he was really rude and condescending whenever people asked for help. He would say things like "we already went over this I don't understand how you can't understand a simple concept."
The class was better than I thought it would be. You can take the exams multiple times and your highest grade is kept. When I had questions in class about the exams (and I asked a lot of them) he answered all of them and seemed to want me to understand the material. I would definitely recommend taking stats from him
If all you care about is getting a good grade to boost your GPA to make your momma proud, then Ron Miller is your guy. However, if you actually want to learn the material then don't take this class from Ron. He's very smart and entertaining to listen to, but he doesn't teach well. The class is structured for you to get an A if you want it though.
Learned a lot in the course--stats, programming in r -- was definitely hard with lots of new concepts. Miller always answered questions in class and has lots of experience. Take good notes--I graduated and have already run into situations where I was able to use my notes to help solve problems, even if you think stats isn't your thing
I read about these students who say they did the class all on their own without help, that the prof didn't teach--well you should all go to Harvard and humble brag there--this class was hard and I got through because prof went through the code and gave examples--I worked hard and got a good grade but I didn't do it on my own
He is very smart but the class is 150 students and getting help can be awkward. Nothing is personalized and the other students often have to help you. Everything is on the computer and he expects you to know how to do everything already. Attendance is mandatory. Not a great experience compared to the other amazing professors I have had at UVU.
There are a lot of students in class, but Prof took time to answer questions--best advice I can give is to keep up in class and either go to the tutors or email the professor--it has really helped!
Some reviews are hilarious--I want a personalized experience so I signed up for a 150 person class that lasts an hour and a half--so we all get like a micorsecond each to have the stats whisperer tell us about math? the course is hard, but the examples in class and the code make everything easier. I did go to the tutors and even miller helped
Not the easiest class but the structure really helps. Miller wrote the code for the book so I had a problem answering some of the exam questions and because someone else had the same problem, he updated the code and sent it to the class. Very cool! I would definitely start the homework and exams as soon as possible so you can ask questions in class
His lectures are really interesting and easy to listen to. He wants all students to get an A and makes it more than possible to do so.
Stats is a very difficult course and he uses the stats from previous classes to insure the best learning environment for you. All tests and homework could be taken as many times as you need as long as it is before the deadline. Attendance is mandatory but if you don't go to class then you will not understand the material.
Miller knows his stuff and tells cool stories his lectures. I feel like I had a hard time learning the material but there is a lab that will help you with all of your homework and tests. All open note, open lab. If you try and use the lab you will have no problem getting an A. He really cares about student success he designed the course to be easy.
Prof. Miller is great at what he does. Rather than just using slides and formulas, he provides interesting and funny examples of how he's used stats in his life to teach the material. The homework and exams definitely take some brain power, but working on them in class as he's going over each new concept is a great strategy for earning that A.
Miller was one of my favorite professors. The concepts in the class were very difficult, though, and I felt like he could have explained them better. However, everything is unlimited attempts, so I was never stressed about my grade. He is also more than willing to explain it if you ask. You can get whatever grade you want if you work for it.
Statistics is a required class I couldn't avoid but Miller makes it interesting so I don't want to miss his lectures. He has loads of experiences and the examples make this the best math class I've ever taken because it is applied. The class would be super challenging, but we are given open note, open book exams which makes things straightforward
Lots of work but lots of help. Not a math person but loved his class
Great professor, you can redo assignments and exams as many times as you want and it takes the highest score. Attendance is a big part of the grade, exams are only 5 questions hw is 25 and a study book. Only 3 assignments per chapter so not a lot. Great guy, great class, I was worried about this class but it was pretty easy and there's lots of help
Here's are the important things you need to know: -hw, exam, and smartbook r time consuming | open-notes -Lecture heavy but half the time is about Miller's work experience -There's attendance quiz but if you're absent, you can ask him for the code to take it. -Inspired me to minor in statistics -doesn't require memorization of formulas
Honestly Ron is a good guy and tries hard to make you excited about statistics. He doesn't really teach though as he lectures... He mostly talks about random things the was involved with and flexes on you with all the random people he knows. I passed though so I can't complain that much
Straightforward class. Everything is laid out clearly. For every statistic he has an example from his own work where it was important. No fluff if you pay attention as his slides, code, and examples all tie together
Professor Miller's lectures are very interesting, and he is very willing to help outside of class. One of my favorite professors at UVU.
I think Professor Miller is a good guy who knows/cares a lot about stats, but I wished he spent more time going over problems and less time lecturing about things that only vaguely tie into the course material. I don't think it is a difficult class to pass if you do the work and attend class, but he can be a little bit frustrating at times.
Professor wants you to succeed and really loves statistics. Take assignments over until you like your grade. Great class!
I think there's been a change to the class this semester as Dr. Miller is requiring us to take notes for a grade. We get to work in groups of 5 so its not too bad and it is impressive how much we learn in each chapter (taking notes lets us see all of it instead of trying to remember) stats, code, and real world examples --would recommend the class!
Hard semester for me--Prof Miller was willing to work with me and was more interested in me learning than penalizing me for things out of my control. Grateful
Honestly I really struggled with math before this class, the way that Dr. Miller teaches his class is clear and makes even difficult concepts easy to understand. He can always relate the subject we are learning to a real story or life experience he has had. Really is a great guy and truly cares about his students and wants to make sure you can pass
Professor Miller has lots of experience and wrote the code for the book so he knows it backwards and forwards. When I had questions he would take all the time I needed to explain things. I wish more teachers would structure their classes like his and give more examples. I feel like I know a real world application of almost every stat from class
Class was super hard. Math is not my thing. Miller makes it easier with r code and stories. I recommend him and stats is way useful, but probably not going to take another math class if I can avoid it
Prof Miller's lectures are very interesting and he cares more about you learning than penalizing you for not understanding. He is easy to work with and all exams are open note. The material was hard to understand (math and R isn't my strong suit) so I would recommend getting a tutor or visiting the business lab everyday.
Hard class but thankfully your notes and materials will help. Miller does give examples for all the stats and when class is over, that's what stays with you longest. Glad for all the learning and it is maybe one of few classes that seem more and more useful as time goes by
In his class I really feel there is a disconnect. I think he wants us to understand how useful stats is and we just want to do them and get done because the class is a prerequisite for lots of other classes. He makes the class interesting and it is fun to see all the applications. If you have problems he will work with you. I recommend him
Dr Miller provides a clear canvas page outline and uses Mcgraw Hill for assignments. Students are required to join a group to take notes together. The lectures are frustratingly uninformative, but the class is relatively simple (especially if you use chegg). If you want a good grade, take Miller. If you want to learn stats, take another professor.
Miller teaches how to use statistics. I've never used formulas from math before from any class I've ever taken, but I love that Miller shows us how to use the stats he teaches and gives examples. If you want to number crunch, take it from someone else. If you want to learn what to do, Miller is the best.
Best way to learn stats. Prof walks the class through an example of every problem in ppts which he also gives to the class, then shows us code that does the calculations, then gives real world examples--rinse and repeat for the semester. Another review said to cheat and use Chegg-don't-take notes with your group--everything seems designed to help
Professor Miller is a very interesting guy. He does a great job of explaining how stats are used in the real world and teaches you how to use the R stats program pretty easily. However, his teaching style and how he operates the class promotes you to not try to learn the material if you really don't want to. It's an easy A.
Interesting lectures and learned how to solve business problems in ways I never would have thought of. Not sure what class some of these people took, but not an easy A -- this class kicked my butt
Inspired me to change my major. Miller doesn't always give all the examples I would have liked but gave such a compelling view of what stats can do I felt like I could go and make a contribution as a consultant. He is a big picture guy--he will tell you the small details in the code and equations but doesn't focus on them for better or worse
Loved the class. Felt smarter for taking it. Also, follow him on LinkedIn where he posts cool science studies
Dr Miller knows Stats more than anyone could. The problem is he hasnt figured out how to teach to people who don't have a PHD in stats. He's a great guy and very easy to get a hold of, provides tons of reference material, but he overcomplicates and BLASTS through material. I would reccomend his class but rec. take a survey to stats class beforehand
Highly recommended! Miller gives a lot of applied examples in class and is easy to meet outside of class too. I asked him about some of the applications and now I've started my own business. Surprise result from a class I wasn't excited about
I thought Professor Miller was great at explaining the concepts and giving us examples. The exam and homework questions always had examples given in class. Not an easy class mainly because the material is new and applied math, but I enjoyed the class and the lectures most.
Hard topic, not such a hard class if that makes sense. I feel like Miller does his best to give examples and help, but the topic is complicated and hard to make easy.
Hot take, but i did not like this class. I got through it, and you will too if you just do all the work. But I feel like he made it so complicated and talked way to fast. barely explained anything and its easy to get left in the dust. would not recommend him.
I kinda agree with a bunch of these posts, but I have to give miller credit. When the chapter is done he will let the class leave but he stays to answer exam and homework questions if you get stuck. Almost everyone just leaves. When I had questions he was always helpful. Don't know why people who say they struggled didn't stay to ask questions
Don't make this class harder than it needs to be. Yes he talks fast but you take notes in groups The exams are hard but they are open note/open book and he gives you code and examples--he does stay until class ends (one time it was like 45 minutes) to answer questions even when he has finished the chapter content Don't give up!
Don't like math. Liked the professor.
Not going to lie--it was a hard class. Miller makes it interesting and gives open note, open book tests, etc. but the content is math, so there's that. Learned a lot and would recommend him, but so much of the content is completely foreign to the other math classes I've had. It is more useful, but not a lot of concepts carry over to this one.
Class was hard, professor was easy. I ran into problems I couldn't solve and he was always available. Never had a problem that he took more than 30 seconds to show me was in the slides or code. Highly recommend but don't get behind.
The class is 150 students and I think prof said he teaches two sections that big. So with 300 students I think prof does a great job of teaching so we understand and can use the stats he teaches. I liked the set up and the practical aspects talked about in class. Can't please everyone but I'd recommend the class to my friends at UVU.
Miller is a good professor, he talks a lot in his lectures and brings in a lot of outside examples. He is really understanding and helpful and just wants students to succeed. As far as the class goes, homework and exam every other week those are graded heavily. Group notes so get in a good group with people who will work.
I learned nothing in this class. He goes on long story tangents that aren't necessary. He teaches how to apply R code, not the concepts of stats. Everything is through McGraw Hill and tests are open note and book so it's not hard to get an A. Group notes sucked because he was extremely picky on what's required, and classmates stop participating.
Probably the most inspirational professor I've ever had. He teaches statistics but also applies them to the class. Class helped me with stats but also helped me value my life more. Almost guaranteed you leave feeling smarter and supported
You learn a lot of statistical tools you can use and he gives you the PowerPoints and code. Maybe if you want to understand the math take a math course but as a business major the tools are great and he gives real examples of how to use each one. I felt it was one of the most useful courses I've taken. Never thought I'd say that about statistics.
Really appreciated this stats class—even though I struggled, the prof made things click with clear examples and code where we could follow him in class. when I had problems, he walked me through everything -- felt super supported and would highly recommend
Required class. Wouldn't have chosen to take statistics but can't argue about Miller… he knows his stuff. When I thought about it as a class in the applications of statistics in business it made more sense than strictly a math class.
Was a great glass. Everything we learned was made highly accessible. Real life examples constantly gave context and a feeling of import to what we were learning. One of the best professors I've ever taken.
Block class so things went fast. Prof arranged it so we had more time at the end to retake exams to improve our grades which was a life saver. Gave great examples
Imagine running a 6-min mile—brutal, right? But your coach gives you top gear, snacks, and even arranges a tailwind. That's Miller. Stats is tough, but he hands out open-note tests, no time limits, repeat tries, and his examples show you that the math isn't just numbers but solutions to real business problems. Loved the class. Still brutal though.
Class was challenging and confusing at first with rstudio but once you get the hang of it the class is really straightforward. Every exam/homework question has code miller wrote to answer it you just have to be able to find it in the chapter. He doesn't teach where the formulas come from but I feel confident about using them due to his examples.
Totally swamped after our campus tragedy and falling behind in everything. Prof met with me online at a time that had to be hard on him and walked me through some concepts and everything finally clicked. I'll never forget this semester, and I'm super grateful for the support in the toughest class I've ever taken.
Miller is very skills and job focused and when you have a question he can usually clear it up fast. Hard topic made easier with his class structure
I am so shocked that he has a high rating. Everyone I have talked to hated this class. The class time is wasted on him talking about his personal success stories and random things that don't relate. The exams are awful, and the homework does not help you learn what you need to know. Prepare to teach yourself everything.
Umm..there is no homework in the class, just exams you can retake as many times as you want. The exams you discard could be thought of as homework but that also means they are exactly what's on the exams. Professor Miller showed us studies of what companies are looking for so we would understand why the content is what it is--I learned a lot
Class turned out better than I thought. The professor kept talking about AI and how we'll need to use it effectively to get a job. Since AI can code, by the end of the term he pushed us to use Gemini in Google Colab so we could focus on why we're doing stuff. We tweaked his code for assignments, but I felt I knew what to ask for to help a business.
Read tons of comments some say Miller uses stories as examples of stats, which really helped learning, while others call them pointless tangents. Haters say they got an A, bragging they taught themselves R, Python, and everything. I liked his examples-he walked through analyses and everything on the repeatable exams was on slides covered in class
Met Miller when my AI‑assisted work was flagged for cheating. Denied it, but Protorio showed a video of my screen. He acknowledged the semester's stress (if you know you know)and let me redo the assignment penalty‑free, offering tutoring. We emailed whenever I struggled; his kindness felt undeserved yet appreciated. Grateful and didn't feel judged.
Also used chat.. probably got the same email. Didn't need tutoring just time management. Could have been bad for me but Miller said not to let it hurt me and not to do it in other classes either. Class was easier when I spent thr time to learn. Also liked millers examples
End of semester review. Miller was professor then Witt. Miller was kind of a genius, Witt was good. Asked not to use AI on first 2 exams, could use Gemini on last 2. Miller and Witt both answered questions well. Lots of tools to help businesses I wouldn't have known. Hope they make me competitive for jobs. Hard class…but seems fair.
Took his class a semester back. The material itself is hard but I gained a lot more insight on why the material was relevant in real life because of Prof Miller. He's a GENIOUS, has GREAT STORIES. But yeah you have to learn the material to pass. Made me consider switching to business to have the professor again because i found his insight superb.
I had a love-hate relationship with this class. He knows what he's talking about and relates all the curriculum to the real world. However he talks on x2 speed and doesn't dumb things down. There's also pretty much no homework but long exams. Just don't strain yourself keeping up in lectures and your gonna be fine.
Fiendishly difficult. Don't fall behind. My average test length was four hours, and I usually had to take them more than once (unlimited attempts). Reading quizzes are vocab-heavy; exams are math-heavy. I was more successful using the textbook to practice the code and skipping the (recorded) lectures. The code the professor provides helps.
Prof shows stats, tests on stats. Prof gives code, tests on code. Prof gives examples. Tests are long. Exam content shown in lecture. Ask questions, prof is friendly. There are no vocab quizzes so other review must be for a different class. Leave feeling smarter. Boss likes what I can do. R and Python are free. Boss likes that too. Recommended.
