a very unimportain old man that couln't get a real job in life somehow cheated the system and got a job at western teaching. Due to lack of funds he scarpes up all the natives and then calls them TA's. they can't help since they on't speak you language
He is extremelly boring but not neary as bad as the TA's. It's like talking to a child that doesn't know how to speak yet.
It was an alright class because I got to go to bed late and sleep all through his class.
His self growth project is the worst project i have ever had to do at western. His grading his strict over something that is so vague. He wonders why no one comes to his class. The only reason to go to his class is to take the midterm and the final.

Can u say douche? He acts like his students have never even seen a computer screen. In one of the only lectures i've been to, he busted out the famous "information pyramid". Information flows vertically for lower-level supervisors. Wow!
This course is an utter waste of time, too bad it's required. The only times you should see this guy are the midterm and the final. If you show up to the class, you will feel dumber afterwards. Take BIS 102 to get away from this guy.

This class is remedial and is for people who have never used a computer in their life. The prof is also a moron who believes that he is above the world for teaching this class. Someone should give him a reality check.

Most insulting class I've ever taken. I actually did attend every lecture and lab. The TAs are very poor teachers who condescend to all students. As a nontraditional student I found that the lecture was irrelevant to the lab and the TAs were insulting.

THIS CLASS SUCKS!!! Seriously, I mean who needs to spend $500 on a class that teaches you how to send an email, or how to use Microsoft Word? He is very confusing. I dont even bother with the lectures, and I still got a 89 on the midterm, because the stuff is so basic. It sucks that it is required.
What a stupid class. Half of it is learning how to write an email, the other half is like a business class or something. WTF? He makes you fill out these ridiculous learning assment journals, and this project that could really be anything, but made no sense at all. TA was ok at least.

If you are taking this at WMU and NEED it to graduate, take it at KVCC. Miller teacher it there also, you get FULL transfer credit (it is ENG 155 at KVCC). It is cheaper and he sounds a lot nicer over here then at WMU. I didn't buy the book but I have computer knowledge. TAKE AT KVCC!!!

This man is a pedantic fool. He can't explain a simple concept without saying words like system, management, and analysis, at least 6 times. His lectures have no point, except to make himself look like an insecure ass. I think he's a robot.
A few years ago, this course was my last obstacle prior to graduation. I dropped it because 1) it's an utter waste of time 2) I couldn't understand his Turkish TA whatsoever when he spoke. Later, I passed the test that allows one to skip it. I HATED IT. Trust me: REGISTER FOR THE TEST.

The class is such a waste. The man has no idea how to teach. You can't understand a single thing he wants, none of his materials are relevant to the class. It is impossible to stay awake for these lectures and the few I was awake for weren't worth it. A monkey with a lobotomy could do a better job. Avoid his class at all costs.

He absolutely sucks. He uses a great deal of vocabulary to disguise the fact that he's full of (insert explative here) and his course content isn't very useful to anyone. I feel jipped by the university for having to take this class. Not worth the time or money.

This class is horrible. I thought it would be breeze with just basic computers but he makes it so complicated that its a pain. He lectures on things that are supposed to be in the book but arent. He sounds like he should be a business teacher instead of a computers teacher. He also makes you but his stupid assessmwnt book b/c he wrote it.

The guy sucks. He has been teaching for years, and acts like it. He cares little about anything besides his ridiculous power point slides. 8 out of 10 people that have had this class hate the lectures or they dont go. The class overall is a boooooooo.
This class is horrible! Waste of time. First day of the lab, we learned how to check e-mail! Are you kidding me? The lectures never coincided with what we were learning in the lab and all the lectures consisted of were stupid power point presentations. The project is a waste of time and the class texts are also horrible! Waste of life!

HE SUCKS. I have never seen him talk about the book and all his lectures are about his stupid Extra material. THe funniest thing is that the questions asked in the text are only 20% from the extra material and he spends the whole lecture on them. He talks very fast and there s not even time to copy the slides, imagine to write notes.

Mr. Miller is genuinly a wonderfully nice guy. If you have any suggestions I HIGHLY advice going to his office hours and he will be more than happy to explain anything. The exams are not bad if you read the text and go over your notes. This is a required class so do your best and just get through it. A lot of people blame him instead of themselves.
Terrible instructor. The majority of what is covered in class is not on the exam. Very few people attend class and the ones who do, wish they hadn't. He is VERY unwilling to work with students and is all over in the material he covers. Thinks that he knows everything when in fact, he needs to get in the new age.

personally I thought Ron Miller was a horrible teacher and I think having to take this class is pointless. Whatever you do try not to take it, test out, do whatever. As someone else said the lab instructors do most of the work but you can barely understand them. I HATE THIS CLASS!!
SOOO MUCH BUSY WORK. I have a learned a little but nothing you wouldnt learn from sitting down and teaching yourself applications. Mainly all you do is b.s. assignments and spend tons of time and printing paper. The TAs can be pretty incompetent and Miller has very little patience for them. Syllabus is BARELY helpful.
I took him my freshman year. He is the most talked about "hated" teacher that I have heard of at my time at WMU. I didn't like him because his class was worthless. I wonder when he will get a TA that can speak english.
this class is SUPER boring so really i never go, all your really need to do is keep up on the labwork (which is incredibly easy) and if you need to...study for the easy tests/quizzes. not hard at all. just boring.
Ron Miller is a good guy. Pretty easy class, lab is extremely easy. Material is boring. Lecture is pretty boring but the extra material can help with the midterm and final exam.
lecture is very boring and that's why nobody shows up. the lecture notes are online. lab is easy. there are like five different things you need to buy for the class (expensive).assignments/readings very time consuming. unclear about expectations on the final project. exams are kind of tough. i wouldn't take this class unless you absolutely have to

Terrible. Avoid if possible. Does not explain things well and expects students to memorize book readings and his lectures word for word. Will ask questions in lecture and not explain the answers when no one understands them. His lectures are also quite boring and the lab portion is easier, but the TA's are hard to understand.
This guy sucks as a teacher! He is from the stone age, and teaches from their! The tests are horrible, things in there that the TA can't even answer! Plus there is a huge project to do during the fall and spring semester.I recommend taknig this class during the summer with a differnt Prof, he is easier and you don't have to do the huge project.

I learned nothing from this man. Most terrible, incomprehensive lecture ever. Lab has nothing to do with lecture. All of the TA's are indian (can't even unerstand them). Ron needs to retire, sometimes I wondered if he knew what he was saying.
Even though this class is very time consuming, its not really hard. If you do the reading and actually go to lectures and labs, you can learn new programs. I don't know why its required for certain majors, though. Even though the professor has a hard time teaching in lectures, he's a good guy and is very eager and helpful towards students.
Took this class freshman year (2005). This class is entirely too much busywork, etc. for being a "100" level class. Ron Miller lectures about completely useless information (including TPS reports), and the lecture material won't appear on the exams. This is by far one of the WORST, if not THE worst class I've taken at WMU.
This class is the worst class i have ever taken, he is a nice guy but its alot of busy work that alot of busy college students dont have time to do.. its almost mind numbing. You get a text book and are told to follow the typing directions on the pages.... its horrible id rather jump out of a plane with no chute than to take his class again
Lacks organization, unprofessional, learned nothing and there isn't much point in trying to get help from him. He actually said to me, "You're lucky to be getting the grade the you are getting." The grade was a C at that point. Not a nice man.
Asks if anyone read the reading. No one answers. Still expects answers to questions from the text. Unbelievable amount of work. The lectures are so mundane and the assignments are overly numerous and redundant. My frustration with this course is high, but I need it to advance towards my degree. I hope I pass. I'm currently behind on the work.
So much work for such a crappy class. The work is so tedious and the simlest assignments take hours. Take this class if you have plenty of time to do hours of boring work and still get a****ty grade. Grades harsh and likes to fail kids for fun. No english speaking TA's. Theres not enough words to explain how much work this class is
This class is a waste of time! I just took it because it was in my major. So expensive and when you return the books you only get a limited amount back because they will use the "updated" next version of the text!
This class is retarted. Its a waste of time and money. Every time someone asks him a question, he just says to use your "critical thinking" skills to figure it out. I have to take it b/c its required. I just cant wait until its over. I would rather get torn up by a bear than go back to that class.

This class blows...lectures are really boring and hard to follow, and he doesn't explain the project well so you spend the 1st 3 weeks wondering what to do...the lab hw isn't hard, but time consuming, and no one ever does good on the 10 point quizzes..overall, bring your laptop to take notes in, it helps, and go to lab, you'll need the extra credit
Avoid taking this class at all costs. It is a GPA killer. The amount of work is unproportional to the amount of subjects learned in class. Nothing is ever explained in the detailed terms for hw/projects that it needs to be. The vague descriptions and responses on journals only further frustration & lead to believe that he is clueless & incompetent
WORST CLASS IN THE HISTORY OF WESTERN. I typically try not to use ratemyprofessor, but I'm breaking my usual standards to post this in hopes that I can save someone from this class: DO NOT TAKE CS 1000!! Find something else to fulfill your Gen.Ed.! I am not a slacker- even the most academically successful student would hate this class!

Honestly, Ron is not a bad guy. However, this class was a waste of time. The lab portion is easy, but the project for this class is poorly explained, so students don't know what is expected of them, and half the material is not even related to computers. Ron himself is nice enough, but the class is...horrible.
You do not learn anything that has to do with actually learning how to use computers in the lecture. The lab assigns WAY too much work for the amount of points given. RIDICULOUS CLASS! DO NOT TAKE!

Its easier to tell a girl you gave her aids than having to take this class. You have to look at this god awful comb over all semester as he stares you down until you are belittled trying to answer questions that not even god knows the answer too. He is not a good professor. The Lab and the lecture have absolutely nothing to do with each other. You have to ask him the same questions a couple times to get the answer you want. The "BIG Project" he is not clear on. One of the worst professor's I ever had, but he means well

I should have listened to everyone who told me not to take this class. All the homework is busy work and the tests ask questions over things that were never covered. Take the online equivalent and save yourself the experience of having to sit through an hour of hell.
ron miller is a horrible instructor. he lacks intrest in his teaching, progression in subject matter, he doesnt cover all the material he put on tests, and lacks clarity in what he wants students to do that you'll be ready to drop this class or kill yourself within the first 3 weeks. if you truly hate you GPA then take this class.
Wow as much as I think Ron is a great guy he is a terrible teacher. He is very very vague on the material and what he wants from you. Also whats up with these journals I can only answer the same questions differently so many times.

very bad instructor! i never knew what he was talking about during lecture! There is endless homework so if you are in nursing dont take the class with chem or bios because you are setting yourself up for failure. The slides he goes over are not online so u have to write it down. and what he covers is not on the exams!!!
NEVER EVER TAKE THIS CLASS! The lectures are mundane and useless. The quizzes are impossibly complicated. But the absolute worst thing about this class is the lab portion. How hard would it be to get some TA's who could speak English? Not once could I get a straight answer if I had any questions. Vague final project with no help whatsoever on it.

This guy can not teach. the TA's can not speak english. when you ask a question, he will literally laugh at you and keep going with his powerpoints, which dont explain anything. no instructions for anything thats graded, and when there are, they are so vague that they make it even worse.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken in my life. I could never follow along in lecture. And seriously? Why would any professor take the time and effort to single people out in a 150 person lecture? Theres so much work involved, its ridiculous. way too much for a 1000 level class. Absolutely terrible, the Aviation department dropped this class from their curriculum for reasons they will not say. No doubt it has to do with the professor that is teaching the class, and the fact that a majority of the TAs seem to have been taken right from a customer service phone line.
Obviously tenured, demands work on a level of a graduate school project for a 1000 level class.
He is the worst instructor ever. I had to take his class twice and I failed both times. He doesnt want to help you. He likes to fail the students. the Big project is so dumb and he never tells you what the project is about so pretty much you are going to fail and The TA's don't speak english. One of my TA's quit after the third week.

The worst instructor I have had. Required for the nursing program, but should not be. Far too much material for one class. Unclear what he wants from students & isn't helpful when asked. Material scattered, large project is a waste of time, TA's try to be helpful, but struggle with English. Focus should be on applications. Terrible disappointment.
I received a BA in his class but hated every second of it. I took the class to learn more about computers, only 1000 level and he had other plans. Way to much material and loves to fail students. I learned a lot of information that is never going to help me in the future.

The final project is due in 10 hours. I have not started. I found it more important to let anyone else who might be taking this class or thinking about taking this class to STOP or DROP because its terrible. He cares more about the way he dresses than the well being of his students. Need help? Try asking a Foreign TA who is confused by english.
Ron Miller clearly states all of the expectations of the course at the start of the semester. He gives out almost 100 points of extra credit. All quizzes are open note. The material is hard and there is a lot of homework, but at the end of the day, its about effort. He wants his students to succeed but he also wants them to WORK for it.
Ron Miller is the least helpful prof on campus. His material isn't even relevant or necessary in a freshmen course.
WAY TOO MUCH WORK for a 1000 level Gen. Ed. If your major is time consuming (ex. medical or nursing), DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Hours of homework and tedious studying. I worked my butt off to get an A, and I attended EVERY CLASS.
Mr. Miller is basically worthless as a teacher. He just reads his slides (seemingly for the first time ever), and expects way too much. I am a Senior CIS student, and this class had more work than my Senior level classes. Having said that- the class isn't too hard. The project is easy but time consuming and incredibly pointless. Take another class!
I'm disappointed so many others disliked professor Miller, I really enjoyed having him. He is one of the sweetest profs I've ever had and is willing to help with any questions, if you are willing to take the time to ask them. He gets frustrated with people that don't do the readings. Overall I enjoyed him as a professor.
Seriously, don't take this class if it could be avoided. It's essentially three hours of busy work every week that teaches you absolutely nothing.
Very tedious class. I struggled in the beginning. The lab instructors are very helpful. The exams are hard, make sure you study extensively. Clicker questions help your grade if you get them right. Many people drop this class but you have to be very committed to it. I received an BA, the teacher raised my grade because I did bad on exam.
