Great teacher! Very helpful and explains subject in a way that the class understands it. He is always available to answer questions and increase comprehension.
Fall 2007 is his first quarter here at WWU. It shows that he wants to teach but the language used in class and that tested for do not match. I would not recommend unless you enjoy being frustrated. Does great one on one. Tests material directly from text.
Oertel puts effort into his teaching and you can tell that he is passionate about what he teaches. He always has very clear powerpoints and examples for key concepts. He wants his students to do well and has so far been very flexible about exam weights in relation to final grades... 3 tests and 2 homework assignments. Helpful office hours...
He's a super nice guy, and is eager and willing to help, but he just isn't a very good teacher. If you can figure it out for yourself you should do fine in his class. Don't expect to be able to figure things out based on lectures.
Its true that Oertel teaches from the book but because of that the class is very organized and clear and the tests are easy to study for. He takes time to answer questions in class and does his best to make sure the whole class understands each point he makes before he moves on. Overall I've learned a lot and will take classes with him again.
Very soft spoken, but a very nice teacher. Has a hard time explaining the concepts but really tries. Study the terms and do the practice problems that he recommends at the end of each chapter.
Oertel has a sense of humor and wants his students to do well. If you put effort into this class it won't be too difficult and you will learn a lot. I definitely recommend him.
Extremely helpful. Tests are not too hard if you study and know the terms. Attendance isn't mandatory but it really helps to go to class. only two homework assignments and they are really easy. He wants you to do well and is very nice.
I loved this class!! I really like the way Ronald lectured, it wasn't fast paced and he could answer almost any question, as long as it related to microeconomics.
Oertel is awesome. He is the first professor I've had in awhile that genuinely cares about his students. He is very helpful and a really nice guy. Work the problems that he gives you in class and do the practice exam, it helps! As long as you do these things and keep up on reading or skimming, you'll be fine.
Pretty easy class, he gives out a study guide and everything is from the book. Your best test grade out of the three tests was worth 50% of your grade so if you ace one than you're set. I would recommend him, I took him for 206 and am now going to take him for 207.
This is a really good class. Sometime the concepts drag a bit, but Prof. Oertel is awesome. He is extremely helpful and friendly. I hope I can take another class with him.
Very good class. Pretty simple and straightforward. Office hours are nice if you have questions or just want to talk about economics. Definitely take him. I'm waiting for him to teach macroeconomics (spring quarter) before I take it. Highly recommended.
He is avery nice guy. He really cares a lot about the students and makes sure that you understand the subject. Pay close attention to the stuy guides and you will do fine on the exams.
Everything is spelled out to you on slides. Never have to buy the book and homework is a breeze. The final is a little more difficult and sometimes class is boring. Easy B or A though.
The material is very dry and uninteresting and Oertel doesn't do a lot to help that. He's not an interesting speaker. However, he's very motivated and helpful and the content isn't difficult to understand. It's easy to be tricked into not studying hard for the exams, so make sure to really review the powerpoint slides he posts online for exams!
Super cool prof and interesting lecture. He makes econ semi interesting and links it to subjects that make it a little more interesting. Tests weren't too hard and there was only two assignments over the quarter. Attendance isnt taken but everything makes a lot more sense if you go to class and have him explain it. Overall a good class.
I love Oertel. He really, really wants students to do well, and tries to make sure that everyone understands what he is saying. He is so cute- walks around the class and asks if anyone needs help. The tests are not bad if you study the slides and the book. Good class, super nice guy. Take it.
Oertel is a great professor. His lectures are clear and easy to understand, and because he posted his slides on blackboard I didn't have to use the textbook. Tests are reasonable plus there are only two assignments in the class. I would highly recommend taking a class with Oertel.
I enjoyed his class a lot, thought it was really interesting. His only problem is that he mostly just lectures, but he's a good lecturer so it wasn't that bad a thing. It was really easy too, I thought. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone interested in a class he's teaching.
Oertel is a great teacher! His slides basically cover everything you need to know and he gives you the old exams and answers to them in order to prepare for the final. Really Nice guy!
One of the best professors I have had at Western. So nice and smiley. Easy to talk to and ask questions. He is one of the reason I decided to switch to the econ major. His slides and lectures tell you everything you need to know. Take him if you can, you won't regret it! (:
This is one of my favorite professors! He really knows how to break down concepts and explain them with many examples so that everybody can understand. Very helpful guy. Buying the book is unnecessary as long as you show up and pay attention. Highly recommended!
Brilliant economics prof. Extremely well spoken (even though German) with excellent examples and broad understanding of the topic. Class moves quickly and provided adequate challenge to keep me interested. You should read the book regularly in order to do well. Dr. Oertel created the class materials, so you get the full benefit of his knowledge.
Oertel is great at teaching economics. His lectures were always perfectly paced and his examples made for easy understanding. He makes a boring sounding class intersting. Definitely knows his stuff. He's probably my favorite prof so far. If you want a great econ class, take it with Oertel!
I thought this class was pretty challenging but I really liked Oertel. He was kinda boring but he was a nice guy and used good examples in his slides.
I loved this class, but I probably would have hated it if I would have had anyone else. Oertel provided slides, practices tests, and a quality textbook.
Tough class, even if you study a lot. Not much homework but his test questions are really tricky. Some MC, some short answer. Even if you read the book it's still not much help because it doesn't engage too much with his lectures. His lectures tend to be a bit boring, but he's a nice guy. Can't say the same about his exams however
Wow. It has been a pleasure taking a class with a man as passionate about teaching and with as much knowledge about econ as Ron Oertel. He is truly amazing and is still my favorite econ teacher to date. He is helpful and clear in his lectures. Reading the book isn't necessary to do well. He goes over everything in class and reviews before tests.
This guy is awesome! Really knows his stuff and teaches everything clearly. His accent is kinda weird, but doesn't interfere with the lecture. Powerpoints are clear and available online. If you have to take ECON 206, make sure you have him as your teacher! And take him whenever possible in future ECON classes!
Amazing professor! Very helpful and funny and his lectures cover everything you need to know on the tests. Give great reviews and is always willing to clarify anything you don't understand. He even does exercises in class and walks around and engages with the students. He's awesome and I highly recommend.
While I am not terribly taken with Economics, I did not mind taking 206 with Oertel. He is nice, helpful, and has an amusing personality. He really does know his Economics. Class is not difficult, and he makes sure everyone knows the information before moving along or giving a test. Reading the text is unnecessary but helpful if you are confused.
He is a great teacher, really knows his stuff, and is very helpful and good at explaining the concepts. Show up to class and take good notes, I liked to write on top of the power point slides he posted-that was a good way to take notes. Good personality, and a really nice guy. Highly recomended.
Great professor, open office hours. Very helpful with letters of recommendation.
GREAT prof! Strongly recommend taking him. He is very intelligent in economics and explains topics very well. Book is not necessary to have but always helps to back up lectures. Little to no outside class work. Curves final grades slightly
Oertel is a quality professor. He is fun and a bit quirky, which makes the class a little more enjoyable. Can talk fast, but actually makes an effort to see that everyone understands the concepts. Take a class from Ron if you can.
If you had to take an Econ class, be sure to take it from Oertel. Tests are not that easy, but he is sure to make sure everyone knows what he is saying and has review slides before each test.
Odd dude, awesome class. Oertel knows his stuff and how to teach it and if you pay any attention at all you won't find it hard to pass. I have no interest in economics and still managed to learn some concepts that are actually useful in life and get a good grade from going to his lectures.
kind of a weird guy, but knows his stuff. super good with examples and walks around to answer questions. powerpoints are very well made and he memorizes them, so he's always on track. practice problems are done in class. he's a good teacher
Such an adorable, precious, sweet guy. He is very smart and understanding. He cares sooo much for his students and tries very hard to help everyone understand. Very patient and nice. Study his reviews and pay attention and you will do well! Tests are kind of tricky in the wording.
Cool guy, knows his stuff and knows how to teach, it is pretty reasonable to get an A- but an A is pretty hard no matter if you go to ever class and study very hard. Great Prof. the best since I have been at WWU
Oertel is a really good teacher, but you really need to go to class. Attending his lectures makes everything way easier even though they are posted online. His tests are somewhat challenging. He always posts practice tests before and they are very similar to the actual tests. They even have some of the same questions. I'd suggest this teacher.
Awesome teacher, awesome class. His slides were very useful. Don't need to buy the textbook.
If you get the chance to take ECON 206 with Oertel, don't hesitate! Slides were very useful, book wasn't necessary to do well in class
Oertel is a great professor for ECON 206! He explains the information well and genuninely wants students to do well. He will curve grades and add extra percentages on to grades if students are not doing well.
He was for the most part looked like a nice guy, and he was. Very clear on his lectures. But his midterms made no sense sometimes. They were a little fair but overall too hard for the class. Questions were worded hard to the point that even if you knew everything you had to know a little bit more. 6.9/10
Classes were lectures followed by class examples. He posted practice tests online regularly. He graded quickly. I love this systematic method and did well in the class. I found he made subject material very understandable and economics is a very difficult subject to teach. Loved him! I'd take him for 207 if he taught.
Lectures in class and does practice problem, which will usually be on the test. Uses powerpoints which are all online. Has one assignment to help study for the first test. Tests are half multiple choice/half math story problems. 2 tests and a multiple choice final. Gives last quarter's tests to study from, which are very similar to this quarters.
Oertel is a great guy, I wish I would have made more use of his office hours! He is very funny and kind; never rude! If you need this class, take it with Oertel! Hardly any work, and you do not need the book!
Oertel is a great teacher. He always spends lots of time explaining all the material. He uses power points in his lectures, and he pulls material straight from the book in his power points so they are very beneficial. He does so much to help the students, and overall is just a great teacher.
Dr. Oertel is a wonderful guy and teacher. He lays everything out for his students (via PowerPoint and practice work), giving all a chance to succeed. If there is a concept you are not clear on, go on in to his office hours. He is even more helpful there. You can't get a better Economics professor than Oertel!
Fantastic Class. He's super nice, he is willing to help in whatever way he can, don't be shy, ask questions or else this class can get a little complicated because of the math.
Professor Oertel was one of my favorite classes. His class was fairly interesting but can get dry. There are 3 midterms, but he gives you the midterm from the quarter before as practice. Go to class and take notes and you'll be fine.
Oertel is a really great guy and is always willing to help! He puts all of his PP on blackboard and gives you the previous years exams, which really helped me study. I wouldn't recommend buying the book because I never used. If I could take a class with him again, I would.
Really fantastic teacher makes learning easy I used to hate economics now I actually find it interesting. He has a great classroom presentation and is helpful if you don't understand anything. Also kinda looks like Colin Firth.
Great teacher, nightmarish textbook.Even after it was customized specifically for Western the textbook was still confusing. In fact there were a few sections Mr Oertel decided not to teach because of the book's confusion. His grading system is great,as is his use of his own previous tests and powerpoints. His powerpoints help a lot more than the book.
Professor Oertel is the best proff in the CBE at WWU, if you need to take econ make every effort to take Ronald's class! Great guy who actually cares about the topic as well as the students!
Don't buy the textbook, all the information you need is online in his powerpoints. Best ECON 206 professor you'll find at Western hands down. Got an A in the class, best strategy is to know all information from review powerpoints and go over the practice tests. Great guy, I'd recommend for a social sciences GUR or if you need the class for major.
Oertel is a great teacher, also has a sense of humor. If you need to take Econ 206, I highly recommend him! Don't buy the book, you don't need to read it. He is helpful and gives out the midterm from the previous quarter to help you study and pretty clear and concise powerpoints.
Oertel is the best! My favorite professor so far. Easy class but you still learn a lot, he is very passionate about the subject.
Good professor. Very clear. Lecture pace can be a bit slow at times but he will make sure everyone understands the material. You don't need the book, his slides are available and there is one on reserve in the library that you can use. He is also quite funny and appreciates class participation.
I've heard so many people say their econ 206 class was so hard but Oertel's class is so easy! He literally puts up his old midterms and the answers to them on blackboard before each midterm! If you study and understand the old midterm, you will do really good. The old midterms that he posts is really similar to the one you'll take! Take his class!
He's a nice guy, and it's a pretty easy class. Posts old midterms and his power points, and you don't need the book. He definitely wants to make sure everyone understands, and I recommend his class
Awesome professor. Peaked my interest in Economics, and taught incredibly well. Good sense of humor, and very sympathetic. Would recommend him to anyone.
Oertel is extremely nice and helpful to his students. The book is not necessary because all info is in the power points. He gives old midterms as practice for the tests and there is little to no HW. Great Class!
He is a great teacher who is very interested in the subject of economics. He is always clear what will be on tests, and has a fair grading policy. If I can take any more classes from him while I am at Western I definitely will.
Prof. Oertel is awesome! He gives you exams from previous quarters to study from and most of the time those questions are what you are asked on your own exams. He makes TV references in his examples, which I dug. He's there to help if you don't understand something and he wants you to succeed. He is my favorite econ professor at WWU. TAKE HIS CLASS
Oertel is a sweetheart. I really don't like economics, but if you like the subject, Oertel is your guy. Don't buy the textbook.
He's super nice, and has a very cute sense of humor. He's not always super great at explaining things initially in lectures, but if you follow up by reviewing his slides and asking him specific questions you'll get it. He's very accessible and will work with you. He's also very lenient. He let me take he midterm a day early without asking why.
Oertel is a great professor. He does a great job of explaining the subject, and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. If your looking to take an econ class, take it with Oertel.
Uses class time well, gives incredibly good lectures and knows how to explain difficult concepts in ways that students will understand. Overall a very pleasant professor who is very smart, if he's teaching a section of anything I would take it.
Don't buy the book. Unless you like reading text books. He gets all of it from the book and posts lectures online
TAKE CLASS WITH RONALD! I had him for economics 206 and loved it! 1 homework assignment, all multiple choice, super funny and nice gentleman. Would take him for any class any day
Ronald is an amazing professor. This quarter has been one of my best due to his class. He is a rare find, not many others truly care enough to teach at this school. This guy actually wants you to learn and will do anything to make that happen. Go to class. Do the one assignment. Do the study guides. Go to office hours prior to exams. Get an A.
He's very, very clear- to some points where I find myself bored because what he's talking about seems more like common sense. It's nice when the concepts are a little more difficult, but boring otherwise. Exams are based right off of the study guides- go through them thoroughly and you'll be fine. Didn't open the book once. He's really a nice guy!
This class was FAAAR easier than I expected. He has study guides, midterm reviews, homework problems that really help with passing the class. No need for a textbook since he never uses it. Go to class everyday & I promise you getting an A is easier than you think.
Oertel is fantastic. Sorta interesting material. Posts all lecture powerpoints online (lectures straight from powerpoint). Posts practice tests and a review- between the two of them you're golden. One homework assignment that took me one hour for the whole quarter. Tests are part multiple choice and part math. Easy class if you study some for test
Oertel is a wonderful and approachable professor who does his best to make Microeconomics interesting. His humor, while underappreciated by students, is on point and he makes the class something that is very easy to understand. If you put even a little bit of effort towards the tests, you should be able to receive an A easily!
Makes a boring subject a lot more interesting. Relates real life examples to the material, making it a lot easier to understand. His test are half multiple choice, half story problems. They're pretty easy but you need to study for them to get a good grade. I used textbooks in lib when needed, which is rarely. Friendly and very approachable.
Super friendly and approachable. Posts all his lecture notes online but I would advise still going to class but you could get away without it if you're good at econ. Grade is almost entirely based on 2 midterms and a final. Don't get the textbook.
Overall a very good teacher. We had one sheet of homework for the whole class and three tests. If you review the lecture slides before the tests you'll be fine. I would reccomend Oertel as a teacher.
Man oh man I wish I could take all my classes with Oertel. He is truly a fantastic teacher who cares for his students. Office hours are extremely helpful as well. I'm sad to say he only teaches Econ 206 and 325 but hopefully sometime soon he will start teaching 375 again. We need more teachers like this guy at Western.
Mr. Oertel is a great guy. When I went into his office hours he was very helpful. The practice tests are very similar to the actual tests. He cares if his students succeed. One of the best profs I've had.
A rare breed of professor. He is quite exceptional in his presentation. It's difficult to be lost.
Ronald is a very good professor, the power points are clear and are also posted online. The book, while not really mandatory, is helpful. He is also a very nice guy and is helpful in office hours. Make sure to study for the tests, they are the entire grade!
I love Oertel he is a very nice guy made me want to go into economics! The slides are all online and are so thorough I did not need to use the textbook to review. However his lectures can get boring. Your grade consists of three tests each one weighted differently depending on how you do. He is completely willing to help you if you need it.
Ron is honestly just a really nice guy. His powerpoints are very clear and he posts them after class. He's always willing to meet with you outside of class. He's super passionate about economics and really tries to make the class care as well. He is just a fun, quirky guy that tells bad jokes and likes economics.
don't buy the textbook, just do the practice midterms/ final. great guy
Oertel is clearly very passionate and great at teaching. If you're just looking to pass it's super easy. However, since 95% of the grade is based on your exam scores, it'll require some studying to get the A if that's what you're looking for. Great guy though! I learned a lot.
Really brings this down to a basic level of understand using lots of examples, before going into the hard stuff. Had like 1 homework assignment. Questions from old test like to appear on the final. Super understanding.
A nice guy and an excellent professor! He made microeconomics very understandable. Grade was based off of 3 exams (including the final) and 1 online homework assignment. The study guides were previous tests he had used and were very helpful. He also reviewed the material the day before each exam. Definitely recommend taking ECON 206 with Oertel.
If you can show up to lecture every day and pay attention, you'll pass. I wouldn't say the textbook is required unless you don't show up to class. Lectures are long and kind of dry, but informative and all you need to pass the exams. He gives a little bit of extra credit. If you don't understand something, ASK. It'll be on the exam.
I took this class as a prereq for PPE. I showed up 85% of the time. Oertel can be hard to follow occasionally, but he is nice and does care about his students and about economics. If I had reached out to him, I would've done better in the class. His tests were tough, but the class was solid. I learned a great deal from him every day I went.
Oertel is a great professor that explains concepts in simple terms! Highly advise actually going to class even though he has his lectures on canvas. Grades consist of only two midterms, one cumulative final, and two small homework pieces. Make sure you understand the material!
Equally adorable and intelligent, Oertel was a great professor. He was always very clear and gave phenomenal lectures. Also had plenty of entertaining anecdotes.
He's a flamboyant German man who likes to bounce around class. He's adorable and you can tell he's passionate. BEWARE: DO NOT BUY TOPHAT. He uses it to ask questions in class which are optional. You can get by without reading the material and there's 1 homework assignment which he gives you a PDF of anyways. Don't waste your $90!
Oertel is a kind professor who will work with you and is easily accessible outside of class. I went into his OH and he was extremely helpful. I went into ECON 310 not knowing what I was getting myself into, but he really makes the class interesting. He also gives a study guide for each exam, and its actually super helpful. Take him if you can!!!
Oertel obviously loves what he does and is great at doing it. He has a great energy and is accessible outside of class if needed. Assignments, practice quizzes, and practice exams are a great way to know what to expect from him.
He's very sweet and funny and makes sure the class is never dull. The way he explains certain aspects of Economics really helps. He does go above and beyond to make sure you understand what is being taught. Unless you never pay attention or miss too many days, he should be at least an easy B. The class day before the exams are reviews.
while im only in my second semester of college, Oertel is easily one of the kindest, most approachable professors ive had in college. the class, while a bit boring for those not interested in economics, is pretty easily as long as you half pay attention, and hes a very easy grader on tests. would highly reccomend!!
He really cares about economics and makes you also care about it. He's actually the nicest guy ever.
Oertel is such a good professor. He's very passionate about economics and he has quite an endearing personality. Very approachable and gives great examples. It's almost impossible for you to not understand. He's constantly smiling throughout his lectures and its adorable.
Class was very smooth and easy to understand. Prof did a great job of focusing on important areas and leaving off unimportant ones. The best professor from the Econ department by far. Is the only professor i've had from the department that doesn't brag about their status or knowledge. Very down to earth guy.
He was a fantastic lecturer for the content he was presenting. The classes were each two hours and, despite his best efforts, they were most often uninteresting. He did a good job keeping the class engaged and diversifying lecture formats, but I couldn't help but feel bored much of the time. He is also a very easy grader. I would recommend.
You will know what to study for based on the practice tests. Best teacher for an introductory econometrics course. Would recommend.
Three homework assignments, one quiz and two exams. Lectures can be a bit boring, but he provides plenty of practice that prepare you for the quizzes and exams. He is very aware of student questions and creates assessments fairly. There are some in class labs to work with Strata, but works with his students if they have to miss it. Overall great!
Kind, knowledgable, and teaches in an engaging way.
He is an awesome and nice guy, a little awkward but attendance for zoom is not required, and in my case wasnt helpful. The lectures are pretty clear and give you the info you need for the quizzes and midterms- do well on your practice tests and youll do fine on the actual tests. This isnt an easy topic tho you wont get an A if you dont study.
Professor Oertel is great! His class has a routine. So if you like structure, he's a good fit for you. I decided to change my major halfway through his class (and it is not because of him). I was no longer interested in business, but the class was easy to get through as long as you do the practice questions and go to class. I'm passing with a B now
Super nice guy. The material was easy to learn and taught in a very straightforward manner. Your grade only depends on a weekly quiz that directly reflects what is taught in class as well as the review problems he provides. If you pay attention and to the review problems, 206 is an easy A.
Ronald is a great prof and made this class interesting. Make sure you know the material though, there is no homework, just weekly quizzes and two exams. Overall great class, highly recommend.
His lectures can be extremely boring and he can be not so great at answering questions, but he really cares about his students and the content (for me) was really easy to follow. If you do well on the weekly quizs youll do well on the tests.
Solid prof.
Oertel is one of the nicest professors I've had. Lectures can be a bit boring, but he uses good examples, has very clear teaching, cares about students and their grades, and grades nicely. Always get at least partial points on something if it was clear what my process was on exams. One quiz a week, a midterm, and a final. Took 2 courses of his
Oertel is a nice dude but I ended up teaching myself most of the concepts since my class was a slumber fest. He tries to lighten up the class but it doesn't help. The 2 midterms aren't ridiculously difficult as long as you review his practice problems.
6 quizzes (45 min time limit), 2 midterms, and 1 final exam. The fact that there is no homework in this class does mean you have to clearly understand the material, however, Ronald has a passion for economics and will do everything in his power to help you. If you pay attention in class and look and the slides, you will get a good grade :)
Ronald is a great professor who has an equally great understanding of the subject he is teaching. With that said, the lectures can be a bit boring and long, however the examples he uses and the way he teaches is easy to follow and understand. He is readily available, has an easy structure to the class. I definitely recommend him.
One of my favorite professors at Western The class was very easy to understand, with the only assignments being a weekly 10 question quiz Ron assigns 2 midterms during the year and a final comprehensive exam During my class, he regularly offered zoom for at-home students and recorded his lectures for students who had to miss class Text not required
Ronald was enjoyable for ECON 310. All quizzes and tests are based on practice questions and the slides that he goes over. readily available for office hours and more than happy to help. would recommend taking him for any econ class he offers.
An amazing professor! Really cares about your learning and doing well in the class. I was nervous about taking an economics class but he made everything understandable and answers any questions. There was one weekly quiz, two mid terms, and one final.
Best professor that I have had at Western! Make sure to study for the Exams because they are basically all of your grade. Lectures are helpful but not required to attend. He includes a practice exam that is very helpful. He always is willing to answer questions and help when you need, even during class time.
there are online quiz once a week. There was a book that said was required, but you don't need to buy it if you attend the classes and he post slides each week. the midterm and final are in-class but he has review days for the midterm and final with dead week dedicated to reviewing the final. The classes are very boring but it is easy.
He's very energetic and eager to answer any questions. Your grade is almost entirely based on two midterms and the final, besides that there are take-home quizzes every week which make up a small portion of your grade. As long as you do the practice tests, you should do fine in the class.
Cool guy, curved my final grade so I could pass. Really kind and understanding. If you have to take Econ 206 as a required class, this guy is a great professor.
Quiz's weekly on what you learned in class, he will give you multiple retakes if you want very understanding. I had to be out of town on a funeral and he allowed me to reschedule to time twice after I had already forgot once and was super caring and understanding while still bringing passion to his lectures. 10/10 teacher
Professor Oertel was great. Just show up to class, take good notes, and keep up with the quizzes, and Intro to Econometrics should be a very reasonable class. I would take another one of Oertel's classes again.
enjoyed going to his classes, his lectures helped me actually retain the information too
His lectures were very entertaining and theres only one homework assignment each week that is simple to complete.
I loved Ronald for Microeconomics, he knows how to teach concepts that can be confusing by providing real world examples and really does not try to overcomplicate things for students. Attendance isnt mandatory and he posts all the lecture slides on canvas.
Amazing Econ prof at WWU, super kind and understanding. Gives lots of chances and give good feedback. 100% recommend he made this class a breeze.
Prof Oertel is the nicest professor I've ever had. The class is graded on very few things but the only homework each week is a 10-question online quiz. If you pay attention in class and study before exams you'll get an A.
Professor Oertel is a really kind person, and he cares a lot about his students. The workload in his class was very manageable, and the material we covered made me feel well-prepared for the exams. He is also energetic and enthusiastic during lectures, which always makes learning easier and more fun. I highly recommend taking Econ 206 with him!
Mr. Oertel is such a genuine and caring professor. He ensures students learn the material and is easily accessible during office hours. If you have any questions for him he is 100% willing to help and gives plenty of opportunity for you to feel prepared on your tests.
Lectures go very quick and can be a little confusing at times. There are weekly quizzes due every Friday before class. With two midterms that happen couple weeks apart. Sadly nothing is open note so studying outside of class is necessary. No mandatory homework but practice problems are posted each week.
Professor Oertel makes this class a breeze. Graded mainly on weekly quizzes, his lectures are engaging and the material sticks. Unstuck ai helped me ace this course.
Oertel is a very nice professor. He has powerpoint slides that has a lot of info on it but will talk while taking notes, so if that isn't how you learn then just be aware of that. He does practice questions and then goes over them in class, and they are helpful for the midterm. Only graded on quizzes and the midterm/final.
Makes confusing concepts very easy, really enjoyed this class. Everything is weighted pretty heavily, so you need to make sure you're understanding weekly concepts. Didn't have to open the text book. weekly quizzes and practice questions matched the exams, no surprises. Attendance isn't mandatory, but the slides won't make sense without class.
LOVE him. He explains the concepts like he's explaining it to 5 years olds, which is so nice. Practice exams are SO helpful for the midterms. He tries to make class fun and interesting. He's part of the reason I may switch my major to Econ. There are 10 question quizzes at the end of almost every week, but they're easy and online.
Ron is awesome. So kind and approachable. Lecture materials are so helpful and thorough without being overwhelming. These kinds of courses are far from my strong suit but I'd genuinely love to take another class with him. He absolutely remembers if you come to class, though attendance isn't mandatory.
lectures are SO important, i missed a good amount of days which is why i got the grade I got and you can access the lecture slides but it is much easier and better to grasp the material in person for me personally, Ron is very caring an di enjoyed his teaching style and having him as a professor, no assignments just weekly quizzes and two exams.
Explains things very well and lectures are engaging. Come to class and you'll pass. Exam questions are very similar to the practice exam so study those and you'll be good. Weekly quizzes are online and textbook is free.
Amazing course. It's clear that Oertel is not only passionate about economics, but also about making sure the students understand and are engaged with the material. The class itself is an easy A if you attend regularly, finish practice questions and take detailed notes.
Fantastic class and professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but it will help you pass the class.
Truly one of my favorite professors I've had. I personally do not care for economics and my grade suffered because of it, but the light at the end of the tunnel was coming to Ronald's class and hearing him talk about economics as passionately as he does. He is kind, caring and wonderful to be around. If your taking an Econ class TAKE HIS!!!
There are weekly quizzes for each module, 2 exams and one final. The final is only multiple choice while the exams are a mix of MC and word problems. He is a nice guy and does a great job at explaining tough material in a way that is easy to digest. Just make sure to know the concepts of what he teaches. Don't be afraid to ask him for help either!
He is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but it helps if you go to class. He is very nice open to any questions you may have. Graded by 6 quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final which are all pretty easy. The study guides are exactly like the tests. He's super great.
