He's pretty hard-you must do homework and come to class-if not, you will probably fail his tests. Bad:tests as though you're going to grad/law/med school(ie:unfinishable tests) Good:Very intelligent and VERY helpful outside of class.
Good teacher. Always seems to be in a good mood and very interesting. Knows his material very well! Always there for help and very friendly.
Horrible teacher, spent to much talking about what we were going to talk about to get to the point, doesn't talk cleary, test questions are long-winded and confusing, better off just reading the book. Will never take a class with him again
Cant understand a word he says, but everything is right out of the book, if you read it you should be fine. its a pretty simple class, and lectures arent worth going to...

He's an alrite teacher and its really easy to cheat in his exams. so have fun whoever is taking this class. I would reccomend this class.
He is a nice teacher. With few exceptions: first of all I dont hear him at all in the lectures, really hard to understand what he is trying to say. His lectures aren't interesting at all, its really not worth goin, because you can't hear him. He is an okay teacher though.
he is really nice, but u cant understand a word he is sayin, hard to pay attention in his class because u goes on and on about something other than the outline, no use goin to lecture, and no use taking notes off the overhead,go to discussion, read the book, and use the study guide, n ace the papers
This professor is ANAL on papers. Follow the exact format or else he will dock you 15 points on your stupid title page. Lectures were pretty boring, and the tests were somewhat difficult.
Extremely redundant and boring. Take this class, under a different professor.
Pavone is awesome at teaching Statistics. He's little bit eccentric and over-enthused about Statistics and Psychology, but nonetheless will go out of his way to help you and make sure you understand what is going on.
You just dont have enough time to finish the exams. If you had enough time then you could easily get a 100. Tests are open book. The class is based on easy statistical formulas. There are some bogus critical thinking multiple choice questions. I'm sure you would find the answer to them in the book if you had enough time!
Very smart...very helpful...be ready for a hard class tho

he's a good proff but his lectures kinna suck.
I think the class is fairly easy. He does help a lot during lecture, but they are really boring.
Although Pavone is a riduculasly easy proF, very open and a genuiney nice guy. He has the tendency to be really boring in his lectures... If you have his class first thing in the morning chances are you will fall asleep... but still pass the tests
Timid, shy and boring, but very helpful. He is a very nice guy.
He is a very difficult teacher but you will larn a lot and he is very fair.
He is a really great professor... Introduce yourself to him if he sees your trying but you still are not doing good on the exams. He will curve your grade. Possibly one of UICS best
he is boreing, boreing and boreing
he is not a bad guy, just boring as hell...he will walk around the topic for hours before he will get to the point...if you really want to learn personality theories just read the book...or take someone else. His classes are pointless.
He was a good teacher IF you listened to him, Overall the class was pretty decent but Dr. Pavone was extremely monotone/repitive its not his fault the material he works with is very dry. Do not bother going to class though just rely on the book and you should fair well. If you go you may fall asleep
Being an introductory course, the class is fairly easy and Dr. Pavon's test are strait forward and not tricky like some psychology test are. I strongly recommend him for a fairly easy A. Also he drops the lowest test score.
He is probably the kindest teacher I've ever had. He really loves teaching this class, so if you can, take it with him. There is a lot of material, but he has open book/notes tests. I would recommend him to anyone! He's one of UIC's Best.
Dr. Pavone is one of a kind. Despite how boring he is he really love teaching and wants his students to do well. He is always encouraging his students in learning and he trys to make himself available to answer questions as much as possible. He has a very caring heart and does want his students to suceed in life
BRING OTHER HW TO THIS CLASS, otherwise you are going to be bored mindless. However, you need to go to lecture to 1) get introduced to the material, and 2) get information that isn't in the textbook but is on his exams! Exams are tricky but if you study and don't get a bad TA bringing your grade down via the 2 papers you should get the A.
Goes on and on about random stuff and never comes to conclusion.
He is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He really really cares about his students. Open book/notes exams, but never have enough time to finish...(dont even use the book during the test) its phyically impossible to write fast enough to finish....Only psych class I ever got a B in....but in the end he's fair...so cant compain.
Though he is a genuine person, I felt his tests were unreasonably hard. You need to attend lecture to get good grades. Reading assignments are ridiculous: one chapter every week, averaging 40 pages. Tests cover about 5 chapters, all of which cover numerous things. One chapter completely encompassed my year of psychology in high school.
EASY class. If you put in the proper effort into studying for the tests, you will easily get an A.
one of best teachers have ever had in college or high school, he really cares; tutors patient cares helps
decent teacher. very enthusiastic.
Very enthusiastic, very reasonable tests. If you study and attend class, the A is yours.
He is the most boring teacher i ever had! He post some notes on the overhead and read them of, he did a bad job overviewing the chapters. I did most of the learning on my own by reading the book since his lectures did not make sense.
extremely easy class and an easy A if you read the book and study the study guide very good. his lectures are very good, clarifies every point. very good and enthusiastic proffessor. an extremly helpful and fair professor.
Definitely quirky... but he's fun. Easy A if you study. I got a C in the class and didn't go to lecture half the time. Tests were reasonable. The study guide works wonders.
Awesome teacher. Helpful. Caring. Smiles. Different from what I have seen here at UIC. Definitely a challenging class but Pavone helps.
he is really nice but he does not know how to teach. his exams are terrible!
the teaches was interesting, very knowldgeabl, tests are hard but if you study abd read the book you should be fine. tests are long, take good notes b/c you can use them on the tests, never met the T/A,, you have to put work in this class to get an A
Great teacher, very helpful but exams are extremely hard. They are open note but made to be too long to finish. You definately have to know the concepts in and out to do well. Overall, I would def. take him again, as I'm horrible at math and did fairly well without struggling at all.
Dr. Pavone is one of the sweetest professors, he really really cares about his students, and about his field. his class was tough, and the exams always seemed impossible, but he always wants to help a students out in what ever way he can so you get do well in his class. i would definitely recommended taking stats with Pavone.
He is a really nice teacher, but the tests are really hard so you need to keep up with the homework in order to do well. The homework is very time consuming. :(
He tries to teach about the material through his examples and his perspective, but the test is on the book. Go to discussion, because theres some questions on the test off of the discussion activity. Overall, the guy is cool and is willing to help. Can point out really interesting things with psychology, that is if everyone will pay attention.
Dr.Pavone is really helpful..4 exams all at first look really intimidating. but are actually okay! If you do the weekly hw you will be fine. MC ?'s were hard for me! So take good Notes.Bc its Open Notes exam..There was a project, but pretty easy!! But ya Exams are long..and one of them for me was confusing. But He's a good teacher!
He is a really nice guy and his exams are very easy. The only problem I had with Pavone is that his lecturing style can put you to sleep. I went to every lecture, but went to sleep in about 5 minutes. He is a sweet guy though.
He is a quirky but very nice guy and genuinely wants to help his students learn. If you go see his during his office hours, he will spend time and answers any questions you have. Lectures were boring though. Tests are fairly easy to tackle, but will require studying.
Pavone's a sweet, sweet man- genuinely cares for his students & wants them to succeed. With that being said, his lectures can sometimes be a tad boring because he tends to beat around the bush instead of just getting straight to the point. Exams are fairly easy. P.S. buy the textbook if you don't plan on attending lectures.
Lectures are really boring!! Took this class thinking it would be interesting, but it just made me go to sleep. I ended up getting a C which I wasn't happy about since the tests made no sense. If you do take his class be prepared to study your ass off on your own because the lectures are worthless.
AMAZING person. He is not the most interesting and he can be goofy sometimes but he is so very helpful. If you need any help at any point he is more than willing to help. His class is not very hard, but you do need to study and read the book before exams.
he really is a nice professor even he was kind of boring. you can really tell that he's passionate about psychology though. reading the book helps and the study guide booklet also really helps because some of the questions from the tests are taken directly from the study guide.
The class is tough. He is boring and puts people to sleep. His tests are killers, so watch out!
This professor is boring, but he is a nice guy but his TAs were soooo rude to me and never helped me and he kind of annoyed me too. But he is nice, just lectures are boring.
Very helpful, he's willing to help and is always encouraging people to participate in class. Lectures at times can be dull but its best to come to class because his tests are based on book reading and his lecture notes.
Why does this Professor have such high ratings? I took him b/c of this site and I got a B. Really nice guy but tests are a killer... need to read everything (twice), lectures are very broad and does not replace reading the book. Not a great teacher, he talked about Freud's iceberg model for an entire week instead of preparing us for the exam.
Pavone is a nice guy who seems very interested in Psychology. It's too bad because his lectures are boring and don't cover all the material. He spends the first part of EVERY lecture discussing future lectures. Then he rambles about a topic for the next 2 lectures. I rarely went to lecture but did heavy-duty book reading and pulled a B. Not reco
Course demands a LOT of detailed reading from textbook. Must attend lectures to answer some non-textbook questions on exams. Professor is nice and willing to help, but TAs...another story. For the two essays, write them up ASAP (do not procastinate) and have TAs briefly review them EARLY and get your APA formatting checked (or points taken off)!
Dr. Pavone is one of the nicest, sweetest professors I have ever had. He truly cares for his students and wants them to do well. He is always willing to take time to help you out whenever you need it. Exams are open note. Overall, this class is definitely doable, and I would definitely recommend him!
tests made out of the textbooks. if you read them you will get A or B. He does curve. He also, before the exam makes a little review where students ask q's which later he uses on the exams.
Highley capable of portraying the subject matter and allowing for a complete understanding.
Really cares about students and will do all he can to help you understand the material.
He is super boring. He spends the first 10 minutes talking about the same thing every class. He always explains the master plan, and how to take a test as if we never took a test before. He goes into circles and if you ask him a question it probably takes him 10 minutes to answer, when he could have answered the question in a minute.
Grades are only based on 2 exams and 2 papers which are somewhat hard. He spends about a month with the ta's grading and rereading the paper. No homework but A LOT of reading to do since his lectures does not cover all material, and you are most likely to zone out in this class. He talks like a robot sometimes but it gets annoying after a while.
Pros: lets you use notes on tests, is very helpful outside of class, nice and encouraging Cons: does not explain how to do anything in class, expects you to learn by book reading only, way too sappy and cheerful. talks in class about the syllabus ever day for the first half of the class,
Dr. Pavone is a great man. He is plesant and extremely helpful. I really enjoyed this class but am also very interested in psychology. Overall, everything was very straightfoward. No suprises on the final. Ask for help and you will get it. I studied a good amount and got an A.
This teacher says 'to what/which extent' A LOT! it's ridiculous! On average in each lecture he says it about 20 times! My friend and me have been counting since day one and we counted 572 times that he had said 'to what extent'. And not only that the book says it a lot too especially after a definition!
Dr. Pavone is definitely enthusiastic, but often hovers on a particular topic for an unnecessary length of time. He's ALWAYS willing to help a student, he literally stayed until midnight to help me.. Taking notes in his lectures are paramount due to the fact that his tests come from a combo of lecture and the text book. Overall, great professor.
He's enthusiastic but not enough to keep you awake during lecture. You're pretty much better off reading the book. Don't fall behind though with the chapters. Tests are way, way too long. Take they take up the whole class time and always gave us 10 minutes after class. Not to mention, the final took up the whole 2 hrs and +30 min he gave the class!
He spent the first 8 classes telling us how to take notes. He can talk for half an hour and not say anything worth writing down. he talks in circles. he never explains the topics. very easy to zone out to and ignore. if you read the book and study the main points you might do fine. lectures arent worth it.
There are two professors who I personally think are the worst teachers at UIC. Pavone is without doubt one of them. He's a cheery little man and has very good intentions but he should not be teaching. If a lecture is 45 minutes long, he'll spend 30 minutes discussing what we are going to discuss. I only got an A because I've taken stats before.
Pavone is an AMAZING professor. A lto of students don't like him bc his teaching style is not what they're used to. If you're willing to put in the work, he WILL make sure u suceed. He is so inspirational!! He truly loves teaching and spends so much time preparing for class. NICEST person ever. I will remember him forever.
Pavone is a very smart guy...I really was not used to his way of teaching but the outlines helped to have in order to go back to your book and look for what he was discussion since exams are based on his notes inclass...not a lot of work in class given...
Dr. Pavone is a really smart and kind man, but he is not the best teacher. I goes of on tangents that don't necessarily have to do with the topic at hand and he doesn't explain the topics well. He is however very accommodating and the test are really easy. As long as you read the book you should do fine.
A nice teacher and a person, who is always willing to help those who show interest and go to his office hours. There are 2 papers and 2 exams, which basically determines your final grade. Exams are pretty straight forward but studying is required!
There are 2 exams and 2 papers. The 2nd paper is based off your first, so choose your topic wisely. Everything was graded fairly, but I found it SO hard to pay attention to him! He's this cheery little man, but he did not catch my attention at all. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with him unless your really devoted to this topic!
Professor pavone is an amazing professor. He teaches old style using an overhead projector but is very clear. He is very passionate about teaching. If you pay attention and read the book you will get an a.
I never took stats before so I was anxious for class and ended up w/ an A. He's old school & repeats himself EVERY SINGLE LECTURE but if you want an A he's golden. Open note tests, 1 hw/week, he does your "project" for you. I went to class but sat on my phone, that being said the book is AMAZINGLY clear and easy to follow. You wont regret this guy.
Dr. Pavone is the most personable and nicest professor I've ever had. He cares about his students and wants the best for them. He is always open to suggestions and questions from his students. A great amount of effort is required for a B in the class. Constant reading, many hw problems, 4 exams, 1 project. Sounds like a lot but he will HELP u!
Dr. Pavone is a great professor if you really want to be inspired. He really trys hard to make sure his student understand the material. His tests are open notes which is helpful because he gives a lot of handouts in class, tests are not easy but if you know what is going on in class you can do well on them.
If you are not someone who can open a stats book and teach yourself the material, WALK AWAY! He is a really sweet man but he will not TEACH you the material at all. Weekly homework, lectures are not helpful at all and the T.A was no help as well :(
Dr. Pavone is a great teacher & person! He tries his best for everyone to understand the material. In his lectures he goes over concepts and does not work out problems. If you go to his office hours he is willing to help you out! The book is super clear and easy, it'll be your friend. His testa are open note (super helpful). I recommend him!
Although he is super sweet and caring for his students, he isn't the best at teaching. He doesn't do problems with you. If you know how to teach yourself from a book, take this class, or if not, I would highly suggest to join a study group. I joined one and that was the only way I manage to get decent grades. Oh & there's weekly assignments!
He loves teaching and he loves talking. Four exams, 100 points each. Homework due every Friday. Must read book to see how to complete homework. Must buy/rent text book (Amazon for $25) and buy work book ($75 only at UIC Bookstore). When you ask a question, he replies with another question instead of telling you.
He is a very sweet man, and funny too. Although, he loves teaching, I feel like I have not learn much from him. The class itself isn't too bad, that is, if you do the readings and homework, you'll be fine. However, if you slack off in homework or whatever, then you might not pass. But overall, he cares about his students! :)
Weekly homework assignments, 4 tests (100 pts each), one project. Tests and lecture notes are wordy and hard to understand. More about concepts and less about calculations. I learned mostly from reading the book and watching instructional videos on YouTube. I'd recommend forming a study group with other classmates and learning collaboratively.
Dr. Pavone is an AWESOME, CARING, & INTELLIGENT person. I took the class with him a few years ago. During his office hours, he is willing to help you out with any questions. Weekly homework and one major project that he will go over with you. You must independently teach yourself to solve the problems, so highly recommend buying the book.
Very caring professor put a lot of effort into making the required stats course enjoyable for all. Extremely knowledgeable and readily available to help. Put in effort though because it will reflect on your grade. Exams are open book, but practice beforehand so you're not wasting time.
Dr. Pavone is a great professor with a huge heart. He comes up with a lot of fun ways to remember the material and gives out worksheets that can be used on exams. It is obvious that he is passionate about teaching and will do anything to help his students succeed. The tests look just like the homework, and do not be afraid to go to office hours!
Dr. Pavone is one of the most caring Professors I've ever had at UIC. He makes sure to really dig into the materials and make sure that his students understand. He brings personal experiences and makes the materials relevant to our own life and not just the world of statistics. p.s. Make sure to come to class (no PPT's)!
You will not meet many professors like Dr. Pavone. He is one of the few that truly cares for his students and works towards their success, even after the semester is over. While we did cover some complex topics, Dr. Pavone simplifies it in a way most will understand. If you put in the effort and practice, practice, practice, you WILL see results!
Professor Pavone is the best professor I have ever had in my entire life. He is a deep person and has a deep personality. I would have to say he goes above and beyond for his students. His takes his profession as a true purpose in life and has the ability to recognize students' strengths and weaknesses to help them succeed. Life Changing Professor.
(Fall of 2016) Dr. Pavone is the most unique professor I have had. He brought his zest for teaching to each class and offered many examples and resources to help us understand the math required to pass the course. Resources include customized printouts that organized his teachings for us! Going to class to receive his amazing instruction is a must.
Dr. Ronald Pavone is an incredible man. He is not just interested in making you do busy work to get a grade. No sir, he wants to teach you deeper concepts. He wants you o understand the underlying message to statistics, the beauty behind research, and to think for yourself. This professor immerses themselves with their work, Passionate. Caring.
